“BELLA!”

The squeal was followed by the sound of running footsteps and, a moment later, Jenna White had literally thrown herself on an astonished Bellatrix Black. The latter had time only to give a little “oh” of pleasant surprise, before she was knocked down - nearly - by Jenna White’s hug.

“Jen – geroff – Jen!”

Jenna pulled away, breathless more because of the fact that she had seen Bellatrix here, in a market where she least expected to meet her, than because she had just thrown herself - all of herself - at the the latter.

“I can’t believe you’re telling me to get off,” she said, tucking a strand of silver hair behind her ear. “I haven’t seen you for ONE week. ONE week." Her tones made a week sound the equivalent of a year on Pluto, or perhaps the breakage of the news that two-headed aliens had arrived to take control of Earth. "That has seven days, Bellatrix Black, SEVEN days, you get that?”

Bella laughed, throwing back her cascade of flowing, black hair. “Yes, I get it. I’ve missed you. I could have met you but –”

“– But?” Jenna urged. She was talking on autopilot now, the kind of talk where you do not think, only say. “Bella, if you could have, why didn’t you? You sent word that you couldn’t, and you know how hard I find it to be away from you and –”

“The Dark Lord said we couldn’t meet,” Bellatrix said. She lowered her voice as she spoke, both because she was discussing him, and because she knew the news would not go too well with Jenna.

And it didn't - Jenna looked at her, mouth slightly open, and then she closed it, turning away in a way that suggested she had been forced to swallow a particularly nasty bit of Stinksap.

“Why does he do this to me?” she asked finally, arms crossed against her chest. It was not a question, but a complaint. “He knows I am close to Lucius, he – he told Lucius to stay away, too. Bella –”

“He’s only testing you,” Bellatrix said, her voice soft. She understood that Jenna was terribly young - not much younger than Bellatrix, of course, but Bellatrix had been a death eater longer, thought she knew Voldemort more - and it was still hard for her to understand, grasp many things about the Dark Arts, about death eaters.... about him. “His ways of testing – they are always strange, Jen. I do not know what he means to prove through them, or what he wants to see in you. I only know that you need to pass.”

“But he didn’t test any of you in these ways!” Jenna said fiercely.

“Jen –”

“Don't make up excuses for him! Don’t say another word! ”

She disapparated in a fierce swish of silver cloak and hair. Behind her, Bellatrix Black bit her lip, her breathing heavier than usual. Jenna, she thought for a fleeting second, could remind one of an angry, young gryphon: captivating, enticing... ready to claw out an enemy's eyes.

Okay, so maybe he didn't necessarily make an appearance, but I just had to fangirlsqueal at the mention of his name.
Jenna's fierce indeed... Is she going to go confront Voldie? I hope she is, 'cause it's absolutely amusing when she does. Voldie getting back-talked... bahahahaha.
I wanna see more Lucie though!
& Where's Cissy, what's she up to? And Andra?
Are Cissy and Jenna gonna fight for Lucie's love...?

Nice description there and in keeping with the HP world, which I don't think enough writers do, or do well. But you do both ... You truly are good Maxie ... that's why I love reading your story.


Then there's this ... both descriptions are poetical, beautiful and very apt to the character. I have to admit I liked them very much both for your word choice and just ... they leave nice imagery in the mind's eye. Really nice work, Maxie but I'm and I have to go or I'd stay and have more fun. Keep up the good work Maxieluff ... I shall *falls asleep*

I'm updating, people, I'm updating. Don't hate me. =[

The red swatch of cloth looked delicious. Over her palm, it trailed like a thing stitched of the heat of flame, the richness of the strawberry, and Andra ran light fingers over it with a sparkle in her eye, saturated as she was with the scent of fresh cloths that, stacked one over the other like neat piles of equally-thick books, lined the high walls of the shop.

Like expensive metal, she thought, gathering the cloth in her hands. They may not like it, may even hate it, but they can't deny its worth in the market. A mental image of herself, dressed in red buckled with gold at one side of the waist, flashed through her mind, and she smiled at what she found, clearly, a most delightful creation of the mind's eye.

“I want to buy this,” she told Victoria, her tones firmer than usual [as they always were around the lady], and she threw back her hair as she spoke.

This was, apparently, the saleswitch's cue: the curve of he lips a smile that looked so plastic, Victoria thought it might fall off, the young woman began to do, immediately, what she was best at doing – praising the materials in the heavily-perfumed - though very elegant - shop until, Victoria was pretty sure, the fabric itself wished for the ability to crawl into some corner of the building, and die of embarrassment.

“It’s one of our most-sold styles, ma’am,” the saleswitch enthused. “Makes for a classic look, red, and it would look lovely with your hair. We have wraps to match, and I’m sure –”

“This?” Victoria asked loftily, and she held up one end of the fabric. “How pathetic.”

The saleswitch's words died on her lips.

Victoria spoke little but, when she did, it was never idle chatter: the dress, with its catchy shade of gold-tinged red could speak of many a dream but, ultimately, the poor quality of the fabric could drive any picky buyer away. Andra might have noticed this, if she had inspected the cloth another time but, for now, colour had rushed up her cheeks, and she was too furious to think straight - Victoria was an enemy, and so must not be allowed to win.

“It is not!” she said, struggling to keep her voice low as the now-tight-lipped saleswitch moved away [Stealthily, thought Victoria. Such a cat]. “You have no right –”

Victoria Glade straightened to her full height. [She was taller than most women, which made the action a significant attention-catcher.] Andra was pretty sure a reprimand was on its way, but apparently the older woman had no time for such trifles -

“Pack this up,” She said, as she walked over to a shelf and gracefully removed a flowing, black gown from its ivory handle. She did not turn to face the saleswitch, though her gaze lingered on the young woman for a moment, and the latter hurried over - neck and cheeks flushed visibly - collected the gown and hastened away at once [though she was pretty sure Victoria's eyes followed her]. “You were saying, Andraviona?”

But “Andraviona” had already stormed out of the shop.

*gazes lovingly at Victoria's evilness* OMG! She's so cool. She's my new hero.

Victoria really is cool for an older woman. She's so neat in her witchyness but Andra should have just admitted she was wrong. Seriously, you can't fight Victoria Glade she's so cool. I love how she's old guard.
