Default Potions, Double Period; Period Two (All Years)

The sharp smell of hot metal cauldrons filled with malodorous contents mingle with the cool, musty smell of dungeon air, marrying to create that peculiar scent that veteran Hogwarts students immediately recognize as Eau de Potions Classroom. Buried deep within the castle's underbelly, the potions classroom is dim and dank, lit only by the flicker of candle-laden chandeliers and the dim blue flames that sit beneath the cauldrons at the front of the class. If you were to touch the bare stone walls, and it is not recommended that you do, your hand would come back to you lightly coated with an unpleasant cold slime-- the accumulation of years of potion vapors, combined with dust and mildew and condensation and things you'd probably rather not think about (much less actually have on your skin).

The room houses several large obsidian workstations, each set with two wooden stools to encourage the students to work in pairs. Each workstation has ample room for the students to set up their cauldrons and other equipment, and the walls are lined with jars and bottles containing all sorts of potions supplies, from friendly-looking dried flowers to jars of bulging eyeballs and entrails. One contains something that vaguely looks like a pickled hand, and it pulses as it floats, as though waving at the students.

Each container is labeled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.

At the front of the classroom there is a lectern and a desk with the professor's chair. There is also a workstation with two light grey, almost WHITE cauldrons and several bottles and jars, all with skull-and-crossbones images on them. Behind it, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions:

Quote:
POTIONS PERIOD TWO: COMBINED CLASS
(Basic, O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. Students)

Please be seated. The professor will be with you momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. Please set up your workstations, inspecting your cauldrons and preparing your equipment. N.E.W.T. level students, please set up your workstation and then assist any lower class students as necessary. I expect all students will be set up and ready to work upon my arrival without exception.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

We will be working with extraordinarily dangerous materials! For your own safety, please make sure that you have brought all equipment with you, especially the following:
  • Dragon Hide Gloves
  • Protective respiratory masks with high-grade XXX3 Ministry Approved filters installed (No, a bubble-head charm is NOT a satisfactory alternative)

If you do not have this equipment for any reason, see me before class starts.

Due to the nature of this lesson, I ask that all of you prepare your cauldrons specially prior to class. You are to slowly chill your cauldrons using any of the many simple chilling charms in existence. O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. level students should help the younger students to accomplish this. Your cauldron will be at the desired temperature when the alloy turns nearly white -- do not let it get completely white, or the integrity of the alloy will break down and your cauldron WILL shatter.

You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you.

--Professor Kazimeriz
Class Synopsis
Post 1- Students have been instructed to set up and to, strangely enough, CHILL their pewter cauldrons to 3 degrees above freezing. Our helpful prefects are assisting students who do not know any of the many charms that chill an object.

Post 83:
Time to Brew! The professor has explained what Aggrotentia is, and informed the students that they should have their safety equipment on hand. Get ready to brew, the first instructions are on the board. Feel free to ask questions!

ooc: Come on in and get set up! Feel free to talk amongst yourselves as you RP working on the potion (just don't turn this into a 'chat thread', or I'd delete your posts without warning). Upperclassmen (Fifth years and up) please RP with the younger students, helping them out as necessary.

You may feel free to use any charm, including those of your own invention, to chill your cauldrons, and in my absence please follow the guidance of any Prefects in the room. Remember: Have fun! Be creative! and Feel free to PM me with questions, as always. Xana

"I've been using 'Frigus'." he said flicking his wrist again and sending the spell to his cauldron. It was nearly ready. "Like this." he said flicking his wrist and repeating the incantation. He cast the spell at Josh's cauldron and the thinnest layer of frost appear. "Now you have to do that over and over and over and... yeah... I think you get the idea."
Josh smirked when he saw Carter laugh at his way of chilling, well...at least attempting to chill the cauldron. ''Well, i may create my own spells one day'' Yes, he knew he had enough skills and brains for that. He ha ho! But apparently his spell was not working so it was better for him, just for now, to pay attention what his housemate was doing.

The Gryffindor nodded with acknowledgement right after Carter presented him how to cast the charm for chilling the cauldron. ''Coolness. Thanks mate'' he said examining his slightly frozed cauldron. ''But my incantation sounded cooler than Frigus''

Chris looked up, startled, from his work station as he heard Professor Kazimeriz begin to talk. Had the man even walked into the classroom? Why did he not make any noice when he entered a room? Maybe Chris could learn to do that, might be useful for a Prefect. Ok back to Potions. He listened as the Potions Master explained the lesson and then gave the first question.

Dangerous Potion ingrediants, well he knew some. "Well first off Professor, any ingrediant could be made dangerous if you ignorantly do not follow directions correctly and add the wrong amount, wrong ingrediant, or not enough of it right?" he said after thinking about it for a second. Following directions was a principle rules of Potion Making.

"But some atcual ingrediants known to have less that good effects on people would be Sopohorous, used in the Draught for the Living Dead, because if one used too much or did a lousy job with it the drinker could be seriously harmed. And another would be scurvy-grass, often used in Confusing drafts, enough could render the brewer so befuddled that they could do furthur damage in the Potions lab." the Prefect finished and lowered his hand.

Jack raised his hand. "Would Mandrake root possibly be dangerous? I mean, since the plant can be fatal if you hear it's cry, it would make sense that anything coming from that plant could be dangerous if you didn't handle it correctly," he answered. He wondered if he was actually onto something or...he was just going mental.

"Very good! Five points to your house, Mr. Upstead, and two for each of the rest of you that responded. Every potions ingredient is potentially dangerous when handled incorrectly or carelessly. Even something as simple as distilled water can be inherently dangerous to a witch or wizard who does not know what they are doing. Yes-- even water." he said, eyeing one or two skeptical-looking students. "You must handle every ingredient with care, and know what your ingredients will interact. This will also help you to learn how to resolve a bad reaction when faced ."

He walked over to the area between the chalkboard and the workstation at the front of the room.

"Today we will be making a rather complex potion--or more correctly, a philter-- that utilizes extraordinarily volatile ingredients. I trust you all brought your protective gear with you as instructed. " He waved his wand and the chalkboard's content changed:

"We will be preparing Aggrotentia today. As you may read on the board or in your textbooks, aggrotentia was designed to be an antidote to amortentia. However its creator, Acrimone Thwartwasp, did not have a strong understanding of her base ingredients and instead of creating a true apathy elixir or hate potion, she used far more volatile, even combustible ingredients which, in harmony, cause excessive outbursts of anger, violent temper tantrums, and a generally nasty attitude in its consumer.

In an effort to prove the effects of what became known as Aggrotentia, Thwartwasp took a draught of the philter herself, but instead it unlocked her deep jealous rage over her neighbor's perfect garden. In an effort to best her, she set a set of nifflers and a firecrab loose in their yard. The firecrab set the house aflame while the nifflers dug up her yard. Their elderly grandmother was inside the home, and though she escaped her best wig was forever scorched; traumatized, she wandered away, never to be seen again, except for that scorched wig which showed up on the Knight Bus several years later. Blamed for the old woman's disappearance, Thwartwasp spent the rest of her life in Azkaban. But her loss is our gain, is it not? Let us begin..."
Kazimeriz tapped the board again, and it changed.

IMPORTANT FIRST STEP: CHILL PEWTER CAULDRON TO 3 DEGREES ABOVE FREEZING.

"It is critical that your cauldron be properly chilled before we begin. This potion is brewed in an unusual manner, in that we do not place it over a flame initially or even brew at room temperature. We are working with extremely combustible materials, and to do so would be very dangerous indeed." Kazimeriz met the students' eyes, hoping to convey how serious he was.

"Before we go further, I would like my younger or less confident students to attempt to find a nearby O.W.L. or N.E.W.T. level student to 'buddy up' with if at all possible. You may ask your neighbors for assistance if you are unsure of anything or ASK ME for help." Kazimeriz waved toward the board.

4 fluid ounces essence of devil's snare
"Please gather the following ingredients from the storage cabinets. Prepare them before you begin. You will add them to your cauldron one at a time, whisking the ingredients briskly in your cauldron 12 times with your stirring rods between each ingredient. Alternate clockwise and counterclockwise whisking motions... For example, add the fluxweed sap, and whisk twelve times clockwise. Then, add the knotgrass, and whisk twelve times COUNTER-clockwise. It is critical that you keep the potion moving constantly or it WILL freeze solid and be useless to you, you will have to clean your cauldron, re-freeze it, and start again." Kazimeriz said. "Please get started, and feel free to ask any questions you have. Oh-- and the first stage of this potion is NOT volatile or dangerous as a whole, except that the devil's snare cuttings are freshly harvested and apt to be frisky." Kazimeriz smirked, knowing that the rather large cuttings had put up one heck of a fight and were very aggressive just on their own today. Merlin help the students!

We will be working with extraordinarily dangerous materials! For your own safety, please make sure that you have brought all equipment with you, especially the following:

Dragon Hide Gloves

Clean cauldron
Set up supplies

Kay finished writing and went to get the ingredients from the supply closet. She made sure she read every label and how they were fixed. Walking back over to her work station Kay started her work. Looking around she asked. "Is there a 5th year or older that would help me with this potion." She hoped that by the time she was done getting her ingredients done she would have a partner.

Marilyn smirked, staying tight-lipped while everyone else began practically shouting their answers. She figured she'd lay low today. Potions was something she loved and enjoyed participating in...but her heart just wasn't in it on this fine day.

As she listened to Professor Kazi's instruction, the Slytherin's excitement grew...somewhat. This was a complex potion and Marilyn thought it could be interesting to brew something more advanced. Carefully sliding on her gloves, she approached the Professor's storage. Finding the ingredients she needed was no problem as they were carefully labelled and organized.
Collecting the knotgrass, fluxweed sap, dragon scales and snare cuttings, she quickly made her way back towards her station.

After laying everything out, the blonde put on her goggles to begin inspecting her cauldron's temperature...just in case it accidently blew up in her face. The emphasis Kazi put on 3 degrees worried her somewhat and Marilyn struggled to remember a simple temperature checking spell. Groaning in agitation, Marilyn pointed her wand at the cauldron, muttering the familiar spell her mother had used on her as a small child when she'd been checked for fevers. After getting the appropriate reading, she sighed. Merlin, I need to get it together.

Preparing ingredients was the easy part. The fluxweed sap simply needed to be measured, and after doing so, she replaced it, moving on to the knotgrass. Grabbing her freshly sharpened knife, she began working on the mincing process. Her mind drifted away from the task while her hands acted on auto-pilot. Marilyn knew she'd need to partner-up for this one. Who would want to help her, though? She'd made nothing but enemies lately. Stupid Carter and his stupid...Ugh! Just thinking about him made her cut a little more viciously than was needed. Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she stopped for a moment.

Get it together, Force.

'Oh yea...' she thought, twirling her quill around as she listened to the professor speak. 'I can see where everything can go wrong with daisies and water.' But, just as her answer in Herbology, that every plant in there must be taken care of with the utmost attention and should be respected... than it only made sense that every potion ingredient should be taken with caution as well.

Listening to the rest of what the professor said, she raised a brow at the Devil's Snare part, wondering just how frisky those snares cuttings could be. Merlin, she hated Devil's snare almost as much as spiders. And the fact that he just said that the younger students should find an older O.W.L. or N.E.W.T. student for a partner would have gotten that reaction from her as well. She was perfectly fine at potions, and even wondered if it was her best subject as of yet. Well, the brewing part that is. Did she really have to find someone for help? Pssh...

If she needed help, which she doubted she will, she would just ask someone around her really quickly. Okay, first of all, she had to read the instructions again, since she already forgot what to do first. She had tooo...gather and prepare those ingredients first before she did anything else. Alright, easy enough. With the tiniest smile ever, she grabbed her gloves and went towards the potions cabinet with all the ingredients, already seeing Marylin there, who looked a little off, but nothing to really ask about. Unless she was a good actress...But...anyway. Onto the ingredients.

Slipping her gloves on, she took only what she needed, and went back to her table, holding the devil's snare parts waaaaay out and away from her body as much as she could while she walked. They were frisky alright, and freaked her out! Those things, looked like little fat spider legs. Not cool... Plopping them down onto the table, she quickly grabbed her quill and ink and started writing in her notebook first before she did anything, glancing at the Devil's Snare every now and then juuust to make sure it didn't get any funny ideas.

AGGROTENTIA

Aggrotentia (or Thwartwasp's Fury) - The antithesis of amortentia; Aggrotentia was invented by Acrimone Thwartwasp in 1885. Intended as an antidote for Amortentia, instead it was found to give the consumer bursts of energy and strength along with extreme aggressive behavior, angry outbursts and an uncanny knack for causing unemployment and a general lack of friends in its consumer.

Aggrotentia is extraordinarily potent, though short lasting. It is extremely difficult to brew and has historically been the cause of numerous potions-related deaths and injuries, due in large part to the toxicity of its fumes when brewed correctly. Due to the volatility of the potion, it is rarely used except when administered by a healer, where it has been found useful in treating wizards with debilitating shyness, chronic fatigue, or as an effective treatment for excessive billywig sting consumption (see also "dangers of 'wigging out".)

-- Libatius Borage, Advanced Potion Making, Chapter 17, Page 4.

INGREDIENTS

4 fluid ounces Fluxweed sap
3 bunches Knotgrass, finely minced
3 drams komodo dragon scales, crushed to powder
4 fluid ounces essence of devil's snare

STEPS OF PROCEDURE

-Chill Pewter Cauldron to 3 degrees ABOVE freezing
-Prepare first 4 ingredients (fluxweed, knotgrass, komodo dragon scales, devil's snare) before putting into frozen cauldron.
-Add ingredients one at a time, whisking quickly 12 times while alternating between clockwise and counter clockwise.

*Critical that you keep the potion moving constantly or it WILL freeze solid and then be useless*

MY STEPS

-Used freezing spell 'Frigus' on cauldron once.
-Gathered ingredients. (fluxweed, knotgrass, komodo dragon scales, devil's snare)

"Professor." she started after sitting up from her notebook and stretching he already cramped hand from writing rather quickly. "Do we have to keep the cauldron at the constant temperature of 3 degrees above freezing? Since it'll probably warm up slightly eventually, and...how do we know if it's the right temperature right now?" Didn't they have that thing that told them the temperature around here somewhere?

For a moment, Jake looked pleasantly surprised. That was almost a compliment... well... it kind of WAS a compliment, but Jake was still wary of Kazimeriz.

As he listened on, Jake heard the explanation of the potion and his eyes went wide. That sounded... increasingly familliar.

Even as Jake registered the rest of what Kazi was saying, his brain was working furiously on something else. He heard the man say they were ready to begin, but he had a question first.

Well... a few, but Evelyn beat him to that, and asked a question he'd not even considered. Ahh, well. Jake threw his hand up anyway.

"Ssssir," he began, trying not to look as though this potion was important in his mind. "If the p-p-potion is sssomehow consumed by a p-p-pregnant wwwwoman, wwwould the ch-ch-child grow up always duhh-displaying the ssssigns of it?" When Jake finished, there was more of a hopeful hint to his voice.

Would he get good answers, or was he really an immature brat?

"No... If your charm was effectively executed, the cauldron will slowly start to thaw as you add ingredients to it. In fact, you will likely notice condensation beading up on the outside of the cauldron as the cauldron defrosts. But if you charmed it correctly to just above freezing, the temperatures will stay low enough to allow the cauldron's integrity to remain intact during the crucial second step of this potion. We will get to that in a moment." Kazimeriz nodded at the student.

"Excellent question, Upstead; effects of potions on a developing fetus are varied; each potion's known effects are typically is covered in healer and mediwitch potions training programs. Aggrotentia specifically has been found to have some teratogenic effects, and assuming that the infant survives the mother's spike in aggressive hormones and its resultant rages and upset, it can indeed affect the child postpartum. Though the specific impact on the child differs widely on a number of variables, the common current thinking is that it may indeed cause anything from personality disorders, attention deficit, aggression, developmental impediments, a strange side effect in their spellwork known as 'magical echo', sociopathic behavior... even madness. There are many who believe that the famed Death Eater Yaxley's murderous rages were an after-effect of his mother's consumption of several potions, including aggrotentia to treat her debilitating shyness during the gestational period. That, of course, was never proven." Kazimeriz met Upstead's eyes for a moment and a thought occurred to him. He peered at the boy. Developmental impediments... magical echo. I wonder...

"Are any of my upperclassmen willing to partner with Miss Evans, please? She could use a little hand-holding." Kazimeriz nodded to the girl.

As Kazi spoke, Jake bit hesitantly on his thumbnail. This was... actually, more reassuring than he would have expected. It was like... an answer. Including why his real mother was so against magic and definitely potions for a long long loooooong time.

Of course, when Kazimeriz referred to the Death Eater, Jake's heart seemed to stop for a second. All those things... would he become them?

"Whuh-what's a mmmagical echo?" he murmured, gripping the edge of the table to steady himself.

When Kazi met Jake's eyes, the boy maintained eye contact. He knew exactly what the man was thinking; it was the same as what Jake was thinking.

"And ssssir... how wwwould you fffind out, later in the ch-child's lllife?" Jake asked, but he stood and proceeded to check his cauldron and equipment was set up right; Jake wanted someone else to start the potion before he did. He avoided all eye contact. "Say... fffourteen years and ssssix months?"

Was this day going to change his life?

"C-c-can it... be fffixed?"

Jake had the horrible feeling about the answer to that last question.

He thanked her, and..and, smiled? Woooowwww.

Kazimeriz held back a small smile; it was obvious the child's mind had come to the same hypothesis. "Veneficus reciproca, more commonly known as 'magical echo', is an extremely rare developmental disorder found in children in the wizarding world. It has been discovered recently- perhaps only 60 years ago, as I recall. There are a multitude of suspected causes for the disorder and not much is definitively known about it; its very existence has even been the subject of much controversy and studies are being performed by the Ministry. Those who support its existence believe that there is some form of reverberation in the signals in the young wizard or witch's mind, causing an 'echo' effect in the child's magic. This echo produces a synchronization conflict between spell intention and execution, causing their magical development to suffer. Many wizards afflicted with this disorder are mistakenly labeled squibs, or exhibit severe behavioral disorders as a result of latent frustration with their lack of progress on pace with their perceived intrinsic ability. It is akin to your stutter-- your mind knows what it wants to communicate, but you are often physically unable to produce the effect." Kazimeriz looked at the boy. "A competent healer familiar with the disorder would be able to evaluate the patient and make the diagnosis, and while there is no cure there are definitely therapies and even potions that can resolve many of the symptoms. Of course, we are studying aggrotentia today, and this is not a Healer's track potions course. If you would like more information on this disorder I would be happy to discuss it after class with anyone interested." He glanced around the class. "Get brewing; N.E.W.T. level students will have an extra task at end of class so please, do not waste time!"

The more Kazi said, the more Jake withdrew into his own thoughts. He looked down at his cauldron and became very very quiet. Not really trusting himself to say anything else, Jake nodded and, feeling his eyes sting, he avoided looking up again. When Kazi was finally finished, Jake looked up and stared intently at the chalkboard.

"Yes, sir," he replied trying to read the ingredients written on the board.

He had the feeling he'd be a little too distracted today.

Kay said softly. Looking to Sarah she smiled. "Thanks Sarah, I would love to work with you." Kay smiled and started to move her stuff closer to Sarah. "I hope this is ok. I didn't think Professor would say it out loud like that." Sitting her stuff back up she started working on her supplies again. She hope Sarah was ok with it.

Jack blinked as he listened to Kazi tell the story of this strange potion. Was that what REALLY happened? It was just...one bizarre thing after another! Wizards really did the STRANGEST things sometimes, and even though the story was a tad depressing he couldn't help but grin, especially at the parts about the burnt wig showing up on the Knight Bus...could you IMAGINE finding that on there? Goodness!

"Anyone want to pair up?! he asked, looking around to see if there were any younger students nearby to work with.

Slytherin, 2nd Year
Potions Class 2

INGREDIENTS

4 fluid ounces Fluxweed sap
3 bunches Knotgrass, finely minced
3 drams komodo dragon scales, crushed to powder
4 fluid ounces essence of devil's snare

STEPS OF PROCEDURE

-Chill Pewter Cauldron to 3 degrees ABOVE freezing
-Prepare first 4 ingredients (fluxweed, knotgrass, komodo dragon scales, devil's snare) before putting into frozen cauldron.
-Add ingredients one at a time, whisk quickly 12 times while alternating between clockwise and counter clockwise.

*Critical that you keep the potion moving constantly or it WILL freeze solid and then be useless*

STEPS COMPLETED:

*Chilled cauldron using Frigus spell
*Gathered ingredients:
4 fluid ounces Fluxweed sap
3 bunches Knotgrass, finely minced
3 drams komodo dragon scales, crushed to powder
4 fluid ounces essence of devil's snare (already bottled)
*Finely minced the knotgrass
*Crushed the Komodo dragon scales into a powder

Marie still did not have a partner but she felt she would be able to do this on her own. Sometimes it was easier to work alone than with someone else anyway. After checking to make sure her cauldron was still at the correct temperature she went to get the needed supplies. Once back at the table she started to prepare the ingredients. She minced the knotgrass and crushed the dragon scales into a fine powder.

OOC: FYI to anyone who takes up my offer--I've got class, so I'll be back in an hour but I still want to play! So don't think I'm ignoring you or something hehe I'm just not here!
Arya sat in her chair listening to the students anwser the first question, twirling her wand in her hand. She didn't atempt to anwser because she still didn't know a lot about potions.

Listening to Kazu talk about the potion they were about to brew she was a little worried seeing how the first class had ended for her, but still willing to try, she did seem to enjoy mixing potions. She was a little shocked by the woman who created the potion extreme actions to her neighbor's garden, but at the same time felt bad for both women having thier lives ruined all cause of a bad potion.

Upon hearing she would need a partner she first turned to her prefect but saw that she was taken. Sighing she looked around for another older student to help her. Hearing a guy vollunteer to help she turned to the boy and smiled."I need a partner." She recongnized him from the study session but didn't know his name.

OOC: I got class as well but will be back in two hours...maybe less

The cauldron had to be exactly 3 degrees above freezing? Okay... Carter rummaged through his things. How in the world was he going to check that? Would a thermometer work? Did wizards even have those? He looked around to see what other students were doing. Nobody seemed that far into it. He'd just jump right into the ingredients first. And then come back to his cauldron...

He gathered the ingredients:
4 fluid ounces Fluxweed sap
3 bunches Knotgrass, finely minced
3 drams komodo dragon scales, crushed to powder
4 fluid ounces essence of devil's snare

He then went back to his workstation and filled in his journal. Afterwards he began to mince the knotgrass.

SPOILER!!: notes/journal

Attempting to gather herself, Marilyn glanced around the potion's classroom. The blonde seen Evelyn and Destiny not that far from her work station...Always together, those two...and a little further back from them, her eyes skimmed across Carter. Quickly facing the front again, Marilyn decided looking around the room had not been a great idea. He hadn't seemed bothered by her presence and she refused to give him the self-satisfaction of being upset.

So, Marilyn picked up the remaining knotgrass and continued to mince. It was a tedious task but she finished quickly, having already prepared 2 of the bunches. The dragon scales followed and were somewhat therapeutic for the blonde. She just imagined they were Carter's face. Crushing them was a lot easier after this realization.

She was curious about the devil's snare. What technique were they expected to use to extract the essence?...Given it wasn't specified that it needed to be fresh. Pressing was the most common method...but to be sure, perhaps she'd ask.

"I assume we're extracting the essence ourselves. Are we to use the pressing method, Professor?" Her voice was steady and almost monotone.

Though he didn't realise what he was doing, Jake scowled as he tried to read the ingredients. He had to be totally careful with this and, with a mixture of eavesdropping, watching other students and his own understanding of the script on the board, he'd worked out what he needed.

Jake was totally spaced out as he went to ingredients cupboard to collect what he needed, including the devil's snare cutting (which on any other day would seriously bother him, thanks to past experiences).

Then, taking everything back to the cauldron, Jake set it all down and just... looked at it.

Siiiiigh...

Maybe he needed a partner or something.

"Indeed. Using a workstation tray, cut a segment of snare approximately 6-8 inches long. Slice the vine slowly lengthwise with your knife, taking care only to split it open to expose the pith-- the central core. Do not completely in half. Once that is completed, the snare will stop wriggling about and will be limp. Then, turn the split vine over on your tray and press it with the side of your knife to release the oils. Then, you are to use the side of your knife to express the oils from the snare's vine and collect it for your use. It should take approximately 2-3 feet of snare vines for you to draw enough extracted oils for use. Underclassmen- those who are first through third years ONLY -- may choose to use the bottled extract if they do not feel they have received enough experience wrangling devil's snare cuttings in herbology yet. I expect the rest of you to be competent in this task." He shifted and grabbed his nearby cane, preparing to walk the aisles observing. His hip was beginning to hurt and it was making him feel irritable.
