Video: Michael Gambon jokes about Dumbledore, Harry Potter fans & Laurence Olivier
Actor Michael Gambon was a guest on RTE's Late Late Show last night, where he promoted his upcoming stage production of Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape in Dublin, Ireland, which is being helmed by Michael Colgan.
Gambon talked about the play, being considered for the James Bond role decades ago, and working alongside Sir Laurence Olivier and a young Anthony Hopkins in his youth.
He also briefly discussed - or rather joked - about his work in the Harry Potter films, quipping that he took part in so many plays because of how little his work as Dumbledore paid him. Gambon also said that young fans generally got him confused with Sir Ian McKellen when signing autographs. Please note that Michael Gambon has a tendency to make stories up, so don't take everything he says too seriously.
yeah, when i see ian mckellen my always first thought was HP not LOTR , but then again i always remember it's michael when it's HP time...he looks like ian mckellen when he has hair all over his face...he's funny though
He is really funny! I would have definitely picked sir Ian mckellen as my first choice for dumbledore... there is something kind about his eyes that would have been perfect but Micheal has done a great job!
Ian has always reminded me of Dumbledore and I have no idea why! Maybe he'd be good.... Oh well, I like Gambon, he's really good! I think I cried when Dumbledore died..
"We don’t need a list of rights and wrongs,
tables of dos and don’ts:
we need books, time, and silence.
Thou shalt not is soon forgotten, but
Once upon a time lasts forever."
he tends to joke alot when he's on that show...or at least i hope he's joking. last time he was on he got Snape's name wrong! lol might go to that play, although as far as i know its a Samuel Beckett, and his plays are boring. May try and meet him outside though. could send you guys the pics!
