| | | DH is just like a part of the Bible? (spoilers!)(UPDATED!)
The Harry Potter novels have ranked higher in best seller lists than the Bible ... but is it true that Deathly Hallows is almost identical to Matthew 6? Oddly enough, Christianity Today thinks they're pretty similiar.
When ...
Also, the following is mentioned, too. "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
The article can, once again, relate this back to Dumbledore.
So which is it? Coincidence, chance, or intended? Did JK Rowling read these verses and decide that they had a good bit of truth to them?
Personally, I think it's quite awesome. Dumbledore was a wise man, and he learned from the things that I'm assuming he read.
Thanks to SSer jrtpuplvr for the tip! UPDATE: Going along with Matthew 6...
Shannon just went to Mass this morning. Their Gospel reading was John 12; 32-48.
This is a direct quote from the Bible: Quote:

Thats neat. However their is an error in the above post. It says that it was written on Dumbledore's grave and uses the word 'his' when it should have said it was written on Ariana Dumbledore's grave and seeing as she is a female, it should say 'her'.
They defantly bare minory similarities though.

I don't really understand it but I'm sure Jo put it in on purpose. She's very clever and knows this sort of stuff and uses a lot of symbolism like this

I thought this was very interesting. A different way of looking at it. There has always been the question on weather or not HP was pro or anti Christianity and I find it nice to see people discussing it from both sides. This may or may not have been Jo’s intent, but it does give a poke in the side to all the people out there who believe HP is promoting witchcraft and the like.

cool. it's very likely that she, being christian, intended it to be like that.

Different versions of the bible have different wordings though. And though they have ranked higher, on release, Harry Potter hasn't sold anywhere near as many copies.
That second quote actually suits Snape way better.
Either way, the first is probably more likely to be a coincidence. I mean, you can't just copy bits from another book without citing -- that's illegal.

its really a subtle slap in the face to all those who say that HP is non-christian. JKR probably meant it though, she's really good about things like that.

| I dunno... J.K. Rowling is immesley (sp?) clever and maybe it's there for a reason (Just as Ms Rowling Dumbledore was well read so...) but you never know it might not be... Only J.K. Rowling will know... unless she tells us! :-)

Hogwarts RPG Name: Teagan Skye Corliss Fifth Year | Chris Cookie Siriusly In Love There undoubtedly is a connection, as stated by JK herself: Quote:
When asked whether she is Christian, author J.K. Rowling states:
“Yes, I am, which seems to offend the religious right far worse than if I said I thought there was no God. Every time I’ve been asked if I believe in God, I’ve said yes, because I do, but no one ever really has gone any more deeply into it than that, and I have to say that does suit me, because if I talk too freely about that [her Christianity] I think the intelligent reader, whether 10 or 60, will be able to guess what’s coming in the books.”

Special Ops | Snape is my man! ♥Melita's Sweetheart♥ Somehow, I could see that....interesting....I think it was intentional, the HP books are the same as so many others it's not even funny....
