Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, or good night depending on what part of the world you are in as you read this! AND WELCOME TO MY LITTLE THREAD OF PINK

My name is Katherine, but everyone here calls me Pixie or Kath. I am excited to get to talk with all you lovely members this month *waves* I am originally from California, but I now live in Japan where I have a somali cat named Kingsley who I wish would become a lap kitty so I could snuggle with him. Outside of Harry Potter, I am a Disney fanatic and got married at Tokyo Disney Sea in September of 2011. I am also a mommy to an adorable and overly energetic 1-year-old. I am currently in heaven over here in Japan because it is cherry blossom season which means cherry blossom things are EVERYWHERE including Starbucks coffee and cakes, ice cream, and Kit Kats

I joined SS in August of 2010 on a whim when I found an article asking for someone in Japan to report on an event being held in Tokyo and I volunteered to do so.

On site, I currently serve as the Astronomy professor, Professor Airey Flamsteed in the school RP. Previously within the school I was the Gryffindor female prefect for 4 terms with my character Kurumi Hollingberry. I also help run and maintain the School RP's yearbook. I am also a shopkeeper and run the Leaky Cauldron in the Diagon Alley RP, am the Department Head for Magical Accidents and Catastrophes in the Ministry of Magic RP, am the Editor-in-Chief for the Daily Prophet in Diagon Alley.

Outside of the RPs I am a mod for here,Platform 9 3/4, the Japanese forum, and Gringotts.

I strive to be the best I can be because of all the awesome people on this site ( LIKE YOOOOOOOU) that inspire me with incredible creativity and just genuine FUN! People influence me heavily, I suck up energies like a SPONGE!

Oh gosh. My FAVORITE?! I suppose there are two factors really.

One would be the fandom in general. I mean, just seeing HOW excited and PASSIONATE people were on all forms of social media when clips of Harry Potter were just shown during Oscar montages it so amazing. Potterheads are just amazing people and its nice to feel so welcomed and accepted by such an awesome group of people. I mean, look at what Harry Potter inspired *WAVES HANDS DRAMATICALLY AT ALL OF SS* it is thanks to the fandom that I have made some incredible friends from all over the world.

Another thing I always loved about Harry Potter was how REAL it feels. I remember when I first read the books back when I was in middle school how I could imagine some of my classmates being witches and wizards and how believable JK Rowling's incredible universe is. Genius, pure genius.

You have NO idea. There is literally a cherry blossom forecast on the NEWS. They put it on every morning and evening and the whole country just go NUTS for it not to mention the parties under the cherry blossom trees and just skdjhfskdkfdskshs

really is my favorite time of year I use to ride a bike through a Shinto shrine on the way to work and the entire area was under a canopy of pink and just T______________T

Well...he has been listening to the audiobooks ever since he was in the womb. Did the whole headphones on my tummy sort of thing. Right now he can't sit still longer than 3 seconds before he tries to grab the book I am reading to him...so just audiobooks for now

1. Airey was a combination of a lot of things. The suit obsession came from How I Met Your Mother and the sheer fact that Neil Patrick Harris has 945738835745 pictures of himself in a suit. Besides this, there are some definite parallels between Airey and Neil Patrick Harris himself along with many of the characters he plays. The man knows no fear and no shame! True Gryffindor fashion, no?

Before I settled on NPH as a model, I was actually considering George Takei - because har har wouldn't it be funny if a Trekkie professor looked like an original cast member - but as Airey played out in my head the hyperactive and ridiculously passionate persona just didn't seem to fit. In walks NPH while I am doing a massive Glee rewatch and BAM! It just all fell into place.

But a lot of the quirks also come from my own dad - not that he would ever jump on top of desks or anything. But the love of science fiction and connection to NASA is directly from my dad who used to work as an Aerospace engineer before he retired. The whole Trekkie concept was actually the very first character development I ever had for Airey and then things just snowballed from there.

2. DLGKJFDKJGLFDJKLJLGJDJDLJ they do say that half babies have the best proportions. But I don't think I can reeeeeeeeeally answer this question because I am ridiculously biased :3

3. LOL! No, Walnut is still around no one will let me kill the cat off and he will be present at the Lewrumi wedding. Possibly as the ring bearer.

1. It is actually anime that got me interested in Japan in the first place back when I was 10 Sailor Moon was my first and since then I have watched a looooooooooot and use to attend anime conventions (like Sakura Con in Seattle) and go in cosplay. I haven't as much recently though, which is sad, but I do rewatch some of my favorite series like Full Metal Alchemist, Fushigi Yuugi, X/1999, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Magic Knight Rayearth...just to name a few. Studio Ghibli films get played quite often as well.

There is plenty on TV, but I don't tend to watch too much Japanese TV

n'aaaaaaaaaaaaaw *squishes* no need to feel uncomfortable! We all started in the same place with that Sienna colored username. You'll be feeling 'old' in no time once you've found your footing that being said, however, there are still plenty of people on this site that make me feel very veeeeeeeeeery SS!young

BUT HELLO! welcome to the SS vortex!

My situation is rather unique to a lot of other people. I don't work anymore and I don't have any school to go to or study for. I am 150% a stay at home mom so time is really all that I have. That being said, my little one takes up a lot of my time, so I tend to get my SS things done when he is napping, asleep for the night, or on the rare occasion that he is playing by himself or chasing the cat around the apartment. There are a lot of Tim Gun 'make it work' moments for sure!

In terms of the outside world...going OUT usually consists of some sort of store trip or a park excursion. The majority of my friends here in Japan have jobs, so actually hanging out with them is more of a once a month slash every few weeks thing unfortunately.

I've always had a busy life style though (my high school was an hour and a half away from my home, was on a premier soccer team, in way too many clubs, and a in the musical theater program) so I guess I live for the thrill of juggling way too many things?

1. EEP. UM UM UM...I should go with the first thing that comes to mind, right? o.o which was Kit Kats since I am eating a cherry blossom one right now. But Kit Kats in Japan are sort of like Bertie Bott's in that they come on all sorts of flavors. Sooooooo I guess this is like me because like there are many flavors, I have many interests, sides, talents, and so on, but no matter what flavor it is still a Kit Kat. Just like how no matter what I am doing I am still me, even if it is something that leaves a bad taste or seems too odd to be true...like soy sauce Kit Kats

2. Unconditional love. As sappy and perhaps even cringe worthy some of us may have felt when it was revealed that the most powerful 'magic' that has protected Harry is love - especially the love from his mother initially - she is spot on. Because every time I look at him and feel that surge of emotion along with seeing the way he looks back at me... no other feeling like it in the world.

And let's not even get started on the first time he held my finger T___________T

3. um...probably not I think I could only take him in small doses, but would still totally want him as a friend. I mean, he IS based loosely on my dad after all.

But his overly scientific orientation would clash waaaaaaaaay too much with the way I am

The first book will always have a special place in my heart. It is where the magic began for me and what captivated me with the world Rowling created - even if I was really against reading them at first because I didn't want to be like everyone else.

I also love Half-Blood Prince because we get so much information about the wizarding world and how magic works in general and it is just so suspenseful. It was the first book in the series went to the midnight release party in my town and read it cover to cover once I got home. Straight through. Didn't sleep. I just could not put it down.

Deathly Hallows comes in a close second though.

Dear Lisa,

1. Someone who adores you very much and has made it a goal that in the next two years shall meet you in person so that she can adore and love you in person and be extra flaily.

2. Oh gosh...uuuuuum. When I was teaching I was actually quite a bit like Airey in the classroom. Overly active and loud and BIG GESTURES to get kids focusing and excited about learning English. I did a lot of acting things out and going over the top I would say I have Hollingberry traits in me too. I go all Charles over my little prince of adorableness *heh* but my worth ethic and personality in "general" are probably closest to Kurumi. Kurumi was my first RP character EVER, so a lot more of myself went into her than initially planned I'm sure even though she was based on my host sister.

1. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking what do I most like about living in the US now that I live in Japan? Sort of like what I miss and wish was here?

If so...space. I went back this past November through January so my parents could see their grandson for the first time and I forgot how WIDE everything is. The apartment I am in is three rooms and a bath. The kitchen and living are one narrow room and the other two rooms are pretty small too. The entire apartment is probably the side of the living room and master bedroom in my home in the States. Roads in general are wider in the States.

2. GOSH THAT IS A HARD ONE it's a toss up between Kurumi (class of 2079) and Airey :3 I can't pick between them

3. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD QUESTION! wow...I really don't know where to even begin with this one. There are SO many AMAZING characters here on SS and each character and RPer's individuality and creativity add to and make the site wide RPs what they are. I really don't think I can pick out ONE character and call them a favorite because there are just way too many I LOVE when characters show their imperfections and are not perfect and those characters that have that believeability (I think I just made up a word there *goes with it*) factor.

THREE! That is my ideal number, but I am not sure we will ever get there. You are a SUPER MAMA!

1. Both. I speak English around him pretty much all the time. The exception is when I got out and have to speak with Japanese people. His dad speaks Japanese to him when he is home. It's going to be a battle, but will totally be worth it.

2. I LOVE IT have been playing since I was 5

3. he is, unfortunately, pretty much never home because of work, so no real jealousy there. Ryoma on the other hand gets annoyed when I am on the laptop He is actually battling me a little right now to take over and type

1. I do, but I also enjoy being a professor and Airey LOVES his job. But I do miss being a part of all the student drama and seeing how my character progresses from an 11-year-old to an adult. Two very different RPing experiences but both very rewarding.

2. Ug, I had no idea who he was until he was suggested as a character model for Aron I've really only seen him in that movie with Jennifer Lopez *hides* but I am a big fan of his face...does that count?

Anyway, maybe a bit of an advice question here more than anything, but as a former fellow statesman (from California) how did you cope with leaving behind everything the state is (like the diversity, access to ANYTHING in a nearly immediate and 24-hour-like manner, rich culture, unique and almost mythical history, etc...) to live somewhere else? The reason I'm asking is partly because I'm curious for what your own experience has been but also to get over my own fears of leaving the state/staying living abroad.

I'm not sure how to read it, but I had him look at it and he made a noise. So he is pleased.

1. I wish she would give us more canon information than dropping all these "bombs" on the HP fandom

But in all seriousness, I don't know that I ever shipped Harry and Hermione while reading the books and I probably would have been upset if they had ended up together like Rowling seems to believe that they should have. She mentioned in another interview somewhere that Hermione and Ron would need marriage counseling to work, but is that so bad? I mean, it shows that they would WANT to make it work and would put the effort in to make it so, no?

The story is over and done. Her words don't change that.

2. Bread omg I love bread. Especially this local bakery that does this burdock root salad bread *drools*

3. purple and blue...like sky blue. I like pastels colors in general too.

4. Okay, Snape is one of my favorite characters from the book and I ADORE him. I am currently writing drabbles about him and Lily. Harry Potter may have been the hero recognized by the wizarding world, but Snape was just as much of a hero in my book - and yes, I DO admit that he was just a tad creepy and borderline stalkerish when he was younger.

Oh goooooooooooooosh. Okay...this is going to probably be a long story so go get something to eat and drink and then sit down

I grew up in house 2 miles up in the middle of a redwood forest. None of my friends lived nearby and I always felt sort of alone since I am also an only child. High school was an hour a half away and when it came time to look for colleges I knew I wanted out of the State. Ended up in Oregon, of all places, but chose the university I did because of its awesome study abroad program with Japan. I spent a year in Japan my junior year, in the same town that I currently live in actually, and my host family are the real reason I wanted to come back. They really became my second family and my three host siblings treat me like an older sister down to the panicked calls of DON'T TELL MOM over girlfriends or some sort of minor trouble they may have gotten in need me to help them out. My host dad even walked me down the aisle at my wedding because my parents couldn't come out because of medical reasons

Japan has been MUCH more accessible for me. I don't need a car because everything is accessible to me on foot or by bike. The public transportation, buses and trains, is AMAZING and never late Everything is open 24 hours (my hometown and the town I went to uni in had practically everything closing down at like....7 or 8). I dunno...everything just sort of clicked for me despite not knowing the language very well when I first came as an exchange student.

I never really had any anxiety about leaving home because I had been taking baby steps all my life. 30 minutes to elementary school and middle school. Hour and a half to high school. Entirely other state for college. Study abroad. And then going to Japan to teach English.

That being said, I don't intend on staying here forever and want to move back to the States at some point and there are definitely nights where culture shock and stress from not being on my home soil get to me. There are tears, lots of them, and I have definitely been those times where I've told myself I can't do it anymore, but I have such a strong support system here - friends from university (100 Japanese students come per year) and my host family - that I don't have to feel like I am in it alone.

My life choice isn't for everyone and honestly if I hadn't studied abroad I am not sure I would have felt comfortable with the idea at all. But during my study abroad I grew a lot as a person and became independent and confident. I HAD to do things myself because no one else knew what I wanted or needed...and this is coming from someone who had never done her own laundry before college. It was terrifying at first, don't get me wrong, but it was also a fantastic adventure of self discovery.
