Hey Welcome to Snitchseeker, all that... Anyway, I'm Kristin, and one of your friendly mods of the month, representing August. And I'm writing this at almost 3 am, so excuse any babbling. xD
A little about me and SS: I've been a member here since December 2007, joining upon the suggestion of another member of Snitchseeker who I'd become friends with on Dissendium.com, and been involved here ever since. Starting with the RPs, where I had two terms as the Ravenclaw prefect, then one as Quidditch Captain. And when the Diagon Alley RP started, I joined that as first a shopkeeper assistant at Gringotts, then moved on to shopkeeper of Madame Malkin's, which I still am now, along with the supervisor of the north side of the street. I also am involved in the Ministry RP, as a member of the department of Magical Law Enforcement, and have been the Divination professor in the school RP for the last two terms.
Outside of the RPs, I'm also one of your lovely mods right here in Platform 9 3/4, and I wrote for the site magazine (and was head writer for), Seeker of the Snitch, until it was dissolved fairly recently due to time issues. I'm also the sponsor of the Arthur and Molly Weasley fan club, and am a member of quite a few others.
In case you haven't figured it out by now (or noticed my tag), I'm a bit of an RP addict, but luckily that only began after I was done with schooling. Yes, I am an adult, with a bachelor's degree in art, emphasis in art history. Although, I don't use my degree much, seeing as I'm a lowly sales assistant at the Kohl's near my house. My house where I sadly live with my mother (who doesn't appreciate my being just this side of an insomniac) and my cat, Hermione. I love to write/create the multitude of characters who populate my brain, read (of course), watch television/see movies, draw... I've known how to cross-stitch, crochet and knit for a while now but haven't actually created anything lately...
Now to set you loose. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll try to answer the best I can. (There are some types of questions I struggle with. Just to warn you) And definitely, have fun and keep aware of the rules. Wouldn't want to start things off on the wrong foot.

You mention that one of your favourite characters is Professor McGonagall (she happens to be mine). I'm not sure if you've been able to access Pottermore yet or if you've cheated and had a sneaky peak at some of the spoilers like me - but if you have what do you think of McGonagall's backstory?

Just the same... I've been wondering how RPG works... I read you choose your character and start visiting places (or something like that) but to be honest this explanation didn't help me so much.

When you first started RPGing did you have any troubles with it? or were you able to jump right into your character? As a noob I am concerned with (i know this may seem really strange) me being shy. Yes I AM awae this is the internet and it is anon, but just curious...

Okay, I seriously love you for this question. And unfortunately, there’s still only 24 hours in my day, but I seem to manage to fit SS in easily. And I agree with SS being a person’s “sane time”. I consider it my escape, my creative outlet, everything.
I hope you in fact do find SS to be as enjoyable as you hope, and you’re welcome. Also, just thank you for the compliment.

Hi. Becoming involved with RP on SS is easy. If you’re talking about the SSRP, once you’re sorted, you can just jump in. (And I can assure you there are plenty of people who can help you get used to things in there.) Once you’ve created a character and all. And it’s pretty much the same for the Knockturn Alley RPs, in that forum. Except there you have to look for a thread that’s open, and then join, while the SSRPs are open to everyone.

Hi. Nice to meet you as well, and I do, in fact, have a pet. My cat. And we used to have a dog, but he died not long after I’d joined SS.
Being prefect and Quidditch captain was exciting, nerve-wracking, and just altogether fun.

Who said I chose? But yeah, I tend to see SS as my main HP site. Although I actually was pretty attached to Dissendium before I joined SS (and that site kind of died). I’m not really sure if there’s one reason why I love SS, but the fact everyone here is so awesome is definitely up there on the list.

I’d probably say Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, and that’s mostly because I’ve played most of my RP characters as being in those houses. As well as the two houses I’ve mostly been sorted into, when I’ve done sortings. (I’m looking forward to getting to be sorted on Pottermore for that reason. The curiosity about where I’ll end up, and if it’ll surprise me in any way) But I really do like all four houses.

Am I published? No, not unless posting fanfics on fanfiction.net counts as being published. But yes, I mostly do fanfics, when I’ve written anything. I haven’t really done a lot of beta-reading, but I’m always open to doing so. And I’ve beta-read/edited at least one character bio for SS, as well as an intro for an RP.

Nice to meet you as well. And generally prefects are picked by watching to see who is the most active in the RP, and therefore most deserving of the position. Getting involved in plots can help as well, but not everyone who gets involved ends up getting chosen. It makes things more fun, though, when your character has things to do, with everyone else.

Depends on how you look at it.
And so far I’ve been lucky enough to be able to say I haven’t had to deal with too many people asking me why I love Harry Potter, but hypothetically, I’d say that they shouldn’t really criticize if they don’t understand it all. Plus, odds are if they actually experienced HP for themselves, they’d probably love it too.

Okay, I grouped all three of your questions together because they are all pretty much similar, and this way I don’t have to repeat myself as much. But hi to all three of you.
I’d say my favorite character is probably Ginny, because she’s the one I relate to the most. Having started out as really shy, but then growing into the feisty person she is. Which basically answers two of your questions, in one.
And least favorite… Barring Voldemort just out of principle, I’d say probably Macnair. Not really an important character, but I can’t get over the fact he was a Death Eater and was the executioner for Buckbeak. Even though he didn’t accomplish that, but I just really don’t like him for it anyway.

You wrote a nice intro -- I'm a moderator on a few other sites and it can sometimes be a lot of work, I hope it's going well for you.
I guess you could say I’m involved in a lot. My favorite thing to do on SS would probably be the RP, along with hanging around in St. Mungo’s (the chat forum, aka the Shhh). I’d like to get involved with the fanfics (again. I’ve had a couple character-based fics that I never really finished, but that’s my own fault.) And I love stalking the graphics shops.
I’d suggest any of those for someone just starting out, but probably the chat or the RP mostly. As that helps introduce you to the most people around here, and making friends always makes things nicer, and more fun. And I have to thank you for the compliment.

Mostly, I had to just keep an eye on the threads, help watch for people who did anything wrong and report it if necessary so they could get notified (in character, mostly). And we had to sort of help get people involved in the plots for each term. Now the prefects also get together and plan their own events for everyone in the RP, as well, which is pretty fun.

Just a quick question What can you expect from 'school' and stuff once you get sorted into houses? Do you as professors actually get to set exams and homework etc? And if so what sort of things do you ask?

Unfortunately, no, I haven’t. I’m one of those artists who does better if I have something to base my drawings on (something my life drawing teacher said to me), so in a way I’d struggle with that. Plus, I’m really particular with my work, so I’d probably frustrate myself if whatever I was drawing didn’t look perfect.
