Hey Welcome to Snitchseeker, all that... Anyway, I'm Kristin, and one of your friendly mods of the month, representing August. And I'm writing this at almost 3 am, so excuse any babbling. xD
A little about me and SS: I've been a member here since December 2007, joining upon the suggestion of another member of Snitchseeker who I'd become friends with on Dissendium.com, and been involved here ever since. Starting with the RPs, where I had two terms as the Ravenclaw prefect, then one as Quidditch Captain. And when the Diagon Alley RP started, I joined that as first a shopkeeper assistant at Gringotts, then moved on to shopkeeper of Madame Malkin's, which I still am now, along with the supervisor of the north side of the street. I also am involved in the Ministry RP, as a member of the department of Magical Law Enforcement, and have been the Divination professor in the school RP for the last two terms.
Outside of the RPs, I'm also one of your lovely mods right here in Platform 9 3/4, and I wrote for the site magazine (and was head writer for), Seeker of the Snitch, until it was dissolved fairly recently due to time issues. I'm also the sponsor of the Arthur and Molly Weasley fan club, and am a member of quite a few others.
In case you haven't figured it out by now (or noticed my tag), I'm a bit of an RP addict, but luckily that only began after I was done with schooling. Yes, I am an adult, with a bachelor's degree in art, emphasis in art history. Although, I don't use my degree much, seeing as I'm a lowly sales assistant at the Kohl's near my house. My house where I sadly live with my mother (who doesn't appreciate my being just this side of an insomniac) and my cat, Hermione. I love to write/create the multitude of characters who populate my brain, read (of course), watch television/see movies, draw... I've known how to cross-stitch, crochet and knit for a while now but haven't actually created anything lately...
Now to set you loose. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll try to answer the best I can. (There are some types of questions I struggle with. Just to warn you) And definitely, have fun and keep aware of the rules. Wouldn't want to start things off on the wrong foot.
Yay for adult college grads! I graduated in 2005, but I am actually way ancienter than that implies. =)
Life drawing was some of my favorite work in art classes, though those 30 second pics kinda threw me - I needed a little more time than that just to orient myself - LOL
I could be persuaded to make some fan arts and post them here (strangely, probably landscapes/buildings more than characters - I love the settings).
Will I be able to upload them here or do I need to put them on Photobucket or something first?
Also, heehee - you've had dogs, do you know a spell that would counteract puppy craziness? I'm going nuts here tonight with a whacky little troublemaking dog. I'm willing to try *anything*
Hi silvertiger (kristin). It's a pleasure to meet a fellow college graduate not using their degree. Can you suggest ways to get the most out of the website?
Hi, I see you want to be costume designer, I am going back to college soon to learn how to use a sewing machine (I'm a really good hand-sewer but it takes forever to do anything big) so I can go to a "How to design and make you own creations course" so I can work from home selling Gothic Lolita style clothes.
Have you ever learned to use a sewing machine?
Hi Just a question about RPG - I've always wanted to dabble in it but I usually chicken out because of the time commitment it seems to require, so my question is - how intense does it get?

Honestly? I've only ever RPed in sites like this. Never done any real MMORPGs. And yes, in fact I am looking forward to exploring Pottermore once I'm able to. Although I don't think it'll be quite the same as the SS experience. We actually cover more than just the books here, since SS involves everything even remotely connected to the actors, the books, and even just anything going on out here in RL (as there are discussions about music, other books, movies, etc., as well.).

Nice to meet you as well. And I really don't know. In one way, Draco is almost the exact opposite of Harry, seeing as he has both parents but also a sort of power. And in a way, he could be yet another anti-hero as well, along with Snape. And the entire family shows what could happen when you align yourself with the wrong side and end up regretting your decision.
But then, I'm not really sure that makes sense.

Hi!
It's generally a matter of being active in the RP, and showing that you know how to follow the rules and are generally a good role model for others. Helping people RP better can help as well, but mainly you ned to be active and a good RPer.

Hi
I did like being the Divination professor. It was interesting getting to research vearious topics for lesson plans, and figuring out ways to make them interesting to RPers and their charries. So yes, it is fun, although it takes a lot of work.

Well, honestly, I haven't actually founded any FCs, although generally you simply have to think up a valid topic, that doesn't already exist, and then submit the idea. And find someone (a moderator or two) who are willing to sponsor. Every once in a while new FCs are chosen to be incorporated, but the basic beginning is to just get the idea.

It's definitely hard insofar as it takes time. You have to run tryouts, practices, and make sure that you have enough players to form a roster for every match. Not to mention still be somewhat active in the RP, and in one form you act almost the same as a prefect.

Hello
In fact, no it was not. Mostly because that would be almost impossible, as very few of my former student characters are old enough to be a professor in the RP.

Hello.
I have no idea. Sometimes I actually think I'm not accomplishing it. But SS is my creative outlet, and half of my ability to actually interact with people, since I don't drive and therefore rarely go out unless it's to work. So I'm not about to go anywhere any time soon.

Hi!
I really don't know. I love all of them, to be honest. PoA was the first one I ever saw, though (that I remember). And GoF was the first I saw in a theater.

I have. Now I just have to get the welcome email so I can actually explore it.

Nice too meet you. And I'm a Ravenclaw. Here, at least. It seems to change depending on where I am.

Some of them do. I actually had a conversation with one of my coworkers a few days ago about Pottermore, and she was jealous I was able to register for early entry. But in general I don't go around advertising it.

They do on SS, but it's mostly an ooc role. We keep an eye out for issues in our section, and are there to field questions if necessary. And we help organize events.

I think so. At least, it's given me somewhere where I can be around others who are HP fans like I am, and helps me expand that base outside of those who are around me in real life. And gives me an outlet for all the stories in my head.

Yay for more art people! Of any age.
I'm sure people would enjoy seeing whatever you post, and there's actually a section in the Madame Malkin's forum where you can set up a thread for the images. And, while there is the photo album feature in your SS profile, it's generally recommended to just set up a Photobucket account (or any of the image sharing sites)just to streamline and definitely avoid any sort of hotlinking.
And I'm not sure if I can help with the troublemaking puppy. I haven't actually dealt with many of them, but spraying our dog with water whenever he started barking somewhat helped stop that. That's about the only thing I could say, and it might not work for everything.

Tough question.
I've said before that my favorite character was probably Ginny, or at least she's the character I relate to the most. But her importance? I'm not sure. She definitely gave Harry that one deeper reason to want to save the Wizarding World from Voldemort, and she was always there to support him and help out when needed (and sometimes when she probably shouldn't've.) Plus, she had that link to Voldemort from the incident in CoS, so she could understand what he was going through.
I have no idea if that makes sense, or answers your question, though.

You're not the first to have that issue. But anyway... I'm not sure what the problem is, although it could have something to do with the sheer number of people submitting questionnaires. Let me know if the problem is still occurring, and I'll see if I can look into it.

Hi there
Interesting question. I feel closest (sometimes) to Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, seeing as those are the two houses I seem to get sorted into most, but I have parts of myself that connect to all four. Actually, here on SS I consider myself more of a Slytherclaw
If I was actually in Hogwarts, though, I think I'd try to befriend people in all of the houses. I'm just that type of person.

Hi. And I think there are probably more of us around than you'd think.
But anyway, to answer your question, just explore. Don't feel afraid to try anything, talk to anyone. Find the place (or places) where you feel the most comfortable and base yourself there but just go wherever you find interest. pretty much everyone here is willing to include you, help you out, everything.

But yeah, I never really expected to be this involved when I first joined, but seeing as I’ve always been rather active in the RP, and just altogether around, I think involvement just was spawned from all that. And I enjoy it all.

Have you ever learned to use a sewing machine?
Yay for more creative sewing-type people, and I agree with you when it comes to hand-sewing. It’s amazing when done correctly (and there are still some things that sometimes just look better when hand-sewed. Like blind-stitched hems. ), but it takes forever. I tend to be drawn more to fantasy-type things, though. Medieval, Renaissance... I designed some costumes for “The Tempest” for a project in school. Just the sketches, though, as we weren’t required to actually create them.
But to answer the question, yes. I do know how to use a sewing machine, and even if I didn’t, I’m a quick study.

Hi
Short answer: no.
Long answer: Still no, but to explain, I own all of the books in English (American publications), and I know a lot of others who have the same. I even know a person who bought two copies of all the books so they could have one copy to save and one to read. But I can’t say I know anyone who owns the books in every language. (Or, if I do, I don’t actually know that fact. )

Hi!
How do you become one? You get selected, after showing people that you deserve the title. By being active in the RP (and obviously participating in Quidditch), and not having any warnings/reasons why you might not be considered. And in real terms, it means you’re one of the people that others look to as an example. Not to mention you have to schedule tryouts and practices, oversee all of them, and manage to wrangle enough players to participate in the Quidditch matches. Also, you end up coordinating and talking to Kay (dementeddeatheater) a lot, as she plays the Quidditch official in the school RP.

Yes, it definitely was, although it’s fun to RP as anyone, really. Even those who don’t have titles can be involved in things.

Well that depends on your definition of intense. The plotlines can sometimes get pretty involved, if you concern yourself with that as opposed to just having your character experience Hogwarts (And you can read about some of those in the archives, located in the Hogwarts RPG Information Forum), but in general I don’t think it’s very intense. It all just depends on the RPer, really.

Hello, SilverTiger! As you can notice, I'm WolfEye, so we are both wild. I'm also an adult (32) and my (gorgeous) cat is also named Hermione. Let me describe my children: very similar to Harry-Hermione-Ron, they are: Leo, the oldest one (6 years old) is the bravest, the leader and also the smartest and the most special in many ways, he's all white; Hermi, 4 years, is brilliant, mature, represents faithfuly the wisdom of a woman, she's also lovely, sweet, beatiuful and semi-ginger (orange and black), and the youngest one, Zorro (2 years) is semi-ginger (orange and white), playful, funny, and a little shy.
Now, my question is: does JK Rowling interact someway with all of you, the people on SS (the most experienced members)?

Reason: merging double posts
I noticed you said that you knit on occasion. How did you learn, and do you have any websites or books that were particularly helpful? I'm thinking of attempting to learn.
