HI! I'm Jess (yuuup, we ended 2015 with a Jess, and start 2016 with a Jess), otherwise known as Jessiqua, Raptor... etc. I am your January mod Meet ‘n’ Greeter, and I am part of the funtastic School RP, currently playing the Potions Professor (Transfiguration last term).

My SS history began in 2011 when Pottermore commenced their Magical Quill Challenge. I was sucked in by the News, and I absolutely loved what I saw. I joined the School Staff team last year. I love all of the RP areas, the St Mungo’s chat area, FanFics/Dragon Lair, and… well, let’s face it, I love everything about SS, especially all of you lovely members

In real life (what’s that?) I am down in Australia, trying not to melt. I’m a Nurse (I do believe I have the best job in the world), my nose is usually buried in a book, I love to travel, drink endless cups of tea, colour-in (yah!), and binge watch Netflix. Well... I shall stop there so that you can actually ask me something

1. Uh.. Early Grey, I think specifically from Harrods the bergamot is nice and strong
2. UMMM at the moment, the US and Canada! which I'm planning at the moment but... back to England again

1. Uh... I actually don't know. It's just what I always wanted to do. Probably because I care about people, and I want to help them. Plus I love kids obviously.

1) That was a very Hufflepuff answer, wasn't it? Okay, the Ravenclaw answer would be that I love the theory, human biology, psychology, pharmacy, etc. that goes with what I do. It's all fascinating, especially the bits relevant to my specialty. I know! I'm more Ravenclaw than Hufflepuff, so definitely Ravenclaw

3) The shorter list would be what DOES make me feel Australian Okay... tea over other drinks, anything over cricket and football, I don't like barbecues, nor do I enjoy the events held around a barbecue, summer, snakes, spiders, etc. ehh... LAAIIIILLLAAAAAA I am too but but it is YOU that is amazing and fun

Well, I've not been to NZ yet I will one day though! I've been to the UK/Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, France... and through transit in Switzerland, Singapore and Dubai I never had any problem, because the cultures are so similar to Australia anyway, BUT the language barrier in France and Germany was a little overwhelming, though thankfully English was spoken where I went. Laila should come to Australia one day though

3. LOL I'd probably want to say a mixture of Luna and Hermione, but I think I'd probably be more like Lupin. I can relate to different characters for different reasons, but I think as a whole, I am probably more like Lupin than any other. He's quiet, caring, he listens, I feel like he tries to see the best in everything and everyone, and he's perceptive. Plus, my personality is INFJ, which, when you google the HP Characters, Lupin comes under the INFJ personality

Yeah, I don't know if they offer that to Australia or not, but my guess would be not.. Part of the deal with Amazon Prime is offering free two day shipping of much of their merchandise, and I don't see that happening from the US to AUS. But they offer streaming like Netflix on certain shows too.

I've not seen any of those, though I do kind of want to watch Jessica Jones. On Netflix, I just started watching Sense8. It's a Netflix original, and it's pretty good.

NO! I've not actually met ONE Australian who has a bad thing to say about our Kiwi neighbours. We love them! The only (playful) disagreement we've had is which country created the Pavlova I vote NZ myself *hides*
That's a tricky one. I think... Luna. I'd love to see the world through her eyes, I think she is magnificent.
I would have changed that Lily and James died. I always always think 'what if they had never died' and of course that leads to the 'it would be Neville Longbottom and the Philosopher's Stone...' etc, or 'there never would have been a series' but I'm fascinated with the marauders, and Lily, what they would have been like as adults, as parents etc. Most of my HP daydreams revolve around this

LOL Nope, I don't either. It would be nice though. The only Amazon we have here is for Kindle. Yeah, I remember a time when I was thinking 'Oh, I don't know if I'd really use Netflix...' LOL.

1. Hmm... Potions and Herbology. But if I were to be in Hogwarts, I think it would be History of Magic, as I was never very good at chemistry.

3. MILK? I don't have any weird combinations, I don't think... I don't put any sweetner or sugar in mine, I like it nice and bitter. Some people find that weird? *eyes those who put 3+ spoons of sugar in their tea*
4. I'm with you on that one, I don't like the beach. I associate it with summer and sun and cancer. But... I like it in winter and during a sunset.

Although we know that it was editorially necessary to leave out some characters and events from the H.P. books when the movies were made, what is the one character/event that you would choose to add back in to the movies if you could? And the reverse: what movie element not present in the books would you add to the books if you could?

Personally, I really miss Peeves in the movies. The dance between Harry and Hermione in DH part 1, however, was genius!

Hi Jess:

Newbie here on my 10th post. First, I'm curious---am I understanding right that the several "I'm so-and-so" threads in Platform 9 3/4 are for people of some "standing" with SS (such as mods) to introduce themselves to newbies? In other words, you all didn't just pick 'random' people to do these threads, but mods and such who are chosen "for the month", especially to acquaint us newbies with you?

I have several friends down under and also in Oz whom I've met through other fanfiction sites (mostly due to their writing). I've lost touch with them somewhat now -- which is why I'm here, hoping to re-connect with the HP world, its news and its fanfiction. My sons' best friends are currently there in Aussie as well, visiting with their mother who lives there; my sons are looking forward to their return to the States later this month.

As to other questions--I don't really 'know' enough about the site to know what to ask, yet---so if I may I"ll postpone questions and--when approved--spend a lot of time early-on at SS just reading and figuring my way around.
