2012: Meet Cassirin

Hey, Snitchseekers! My name is Erin, although they call me Ern around here. Don't be confused, though... I'm definitely female, in spite of the rumors to the contrary and the fact that my last two school RPG characters have been male.

I guess I'm 'old' by SS standards, although the longer I'm here, the more adults I discover as absolutely in love with books and HP as I am! Although I went to college to be an Elementary teacher, I only taught for a few years before I decided I wanted to try something else. My job now is super secret government work that I just can't talk about (Okay, not really... it's just kind of complicated and boring to people not in the civil service). I still love kids, though, and I get to work with them through volunteer work in my free time.

I also love books of all sorts, and I'm an avid reader. I try to read at least 50 books a year, and I'm already at book number 10 for 2012! I'm always looking for new books, too, so if you have some suggestions or want to talk your favorite reads, definitely drop me a line. I'm also currently addicted to watching TV shows on Netflix, so let me know if you have a favorite show that you think I might be missing!

During my time on SS (almost nine YEARS!), I've worn a LOOOOT of hats. Outside of the school RPG, I've worked in both FanFiction and Knockturn Alley (our RPG section). I joined Snitchseeker specifically because of FanFiction, in fact, and I've written a few stories and even completed a drabble thread a while back. This past year, I competed in NaNoWriMo with fellow mod/staffer Tegz, and we're currently finishing up a massive Rose/Scorpius FanFiction that we hope to post here on SS.

I think I'm most active and visible in our RPG areas on the site. In the school, I started out as a mere Ravenclaw, and over the years, I acted as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Ravenclaw Head of House, and Headmaster (twice!). My interest in writing and being extremely nosy are put to use in my role as Daily Prophet Features Editor, and in the Ministry of Magic RPG, I once played the Minister of Magic, although I'm much better suited to my IUMO Division Chief character now. Whew!

New question since you're being so obliging and I've got you at my mercy. What are you MOST looking forward to about publishing/sharing our fic?

Confidence in regards to Cela is different than confidence in regards to himself. But yeah, good point. I'll try to bolster his sense of self.

Those are some of my favorite peeps too, but I was being extra politic in not leaving anyone out. Hehe.

Be nice, please. I'm fragile. Maybe it's super needy and all, but I love getting feedback on the stuff I write. I'm hoping people will be as interested in the characters as we are and as invested in what happens to them.

Oh, you're going with non-canon pairings there. Hmm. If you want canon pairings, I guess I'm boring because Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny always made perfect sense to me. For non-canon... hmm. We always used to have fun with Snape/Sprout. Hehe.

I love how fleshed out all the minor characters are in HP! I think the whole Weasley family is great, and JK manages to make every member distinct (except Charlie... I want more Charlie!). Plus, as I said before, I'm a big fan of Professor McGonagall.

(ZOMG. I MISS YOU.) Easy answer! You do. Not just you specifically, but all the people on SS. Some of my best friends were made here on SS over the years, people who get all my super nerdy passions and have cool passions of their own and who support me whenever I go off on one of my tangents.

Athena, maybe? She has to be the original Ravenclaw, but she's a WARRIOR. I like that about her. She's fierce.

It's hard to pick a favorite, though, because the gods in those pantheons are so capricious and flawed. Especially the way Riordan writes them.

It's shocking, isn't it? I'm really looking forward to the movie, and it sounds like you are TOO. I think Peeta is one of my favorites because he's so well drawn, and he just gets better in each consecutive book (although he sort of breaks my heart in the last one).

I pretty much WAS satisfied with Mockingjay, although there were certain things that made me want to SHAKE SC and ask her WHYYYYY she did that to us. I don't agree with all her decisions, but I loved all three books, and I'm not the writer, so I don't get to choose.

As for the movie, I'm interested in seeing how everything is portrayed and compare it to what I envisioned in my head.

I'm watching a little bit of EVERYTHING! (And it's a GOOD question). Right now, I'm watching Downton Abbey, The Tudors, Supernatural, Being Human, Twin Peaks, and Doctor Who. I just finished Psych. So... a LOT of different shows from a variety of genres.

I never tried Netflix before but I really LOVE to read! I have a question about my favourite books... Have you ever read:

Warrios by Erin Hunter? I love them so much! Its about these wildcats who live in 4 clans and try to survive by hunting for food and avoid twolegs (humans). It is really good series.

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins? It is very popular now-a-days since the movie is coming in March 23, 2012. I LOVE how its a book about romance and well violence... But I still LOVE the series.

I have not read the books by Erin Hunter, but I will definitely add them to my list since you recommend them so highly.

As for Hunger Games, I've definitely read the whole series, and I'm really looking forward to the movie coming out next week.

Excluding the classics and HP, which out of allllllll the books you've read, do you think is a MUST READ for others? Must reads? I won't make you pick just one 'cause that's hard stuff, just... top five.

I'm more the type to find an author that I really love within a genre and read EVERYSINGLETHINGTHEYWROTE. Plus I love certain authors within their genres, so I'm better if you said "what is a must-read young adult novel" or "what is a must-read fantasy novel". But I'll do my best.

1. Anything by John Green, although Abundance of Katherines and Will Grayson, Will Grayson are my favorites.
2. The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery (does this count as a classic? Not sure)
3. One for the Money by Janet Evanovich (this series is laugh out loud funny - although a bit mature - and this is the first book)
4. Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (More grown up fantasy novels, for those with a taste for the vampires and werewolves but no patience for sparkles)
5. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

So there... I tried to include a couple different genres in there. My disclaimer is that 3 and 4 are definitely mature and I'm not recommending them to readers who can't see PG-13 movies.

So you said that your last two school charries have been male? I just would think it would be harder to play a male when your female... i guess ive never tried. Is it difficult to rp as a different gender?

In some ways, it's hard to play a male character because you don't want to slip into stereotypes and I guess it is a challenge not to turn into some sort of Prince Charming. But I enjoy it, not only because there are fewer male characters than female characters and so it is easier to stand out (or it used to be this way), but because it challenges me to write outside my comfort zone. As long as the character is fully developed, he sort of decides how to react to things without much interference from me.

Although my Headmaster character occasionally informs me that I am such a girl. We don't always get along.

I want to be brave and say a broom, but I'm not super athletic on the GROUND. Imagine being three stories up!

Is it cheating to say a wand? Okay, I'll go with pygmy puff. I have no proof they have mouths and thus don't need feeding, so I'd have the perfect pet! Cuddly but not fussy.

I have seen it! I thought they did a good job staying close to the book, and I didn't really mind the casting. I'm not a huge fan of Katherine Heigl, but I really thought everyone else did a great job.

I'm more of a visual person, so I miss details with audio books, but my mother looooves to listen to them. Do you?

I have read The Help, actually, back before it even came out as a movie. I'm a fan of the book, and I would recommend it to people who enjoyed the movie, or people who haven't seen it yet.

Hmm. This is a hard one, because I never know whether I really am remembering something or if its just because someone has told me about something. I remember (vaguely) the playground across the street from my house when I was very young, and I took my baby My Little Pony over there and buried in the sandbox and then I could never find it again. My life would be so so so sad. It's hard to say, actually, because I feel motivated to be a better reader and writer because of HP, and I made some really awesome friends on SnitchSeeker because of HP. I would hate to think about not having that.

Sure! I love reading a book that makes me look at things from a new perspective (even if I don't agree) or makes me really THINK in some way. Plus really great writing inspires me to be a better writer myself.
