2012: Meet Cassirin

Hey, Snitchseekers! My name is Erin, although they call me Ern around here. Don't be confused, though... I'm definitely female, in spite of the rumors to the contrary and the fact that my last two school RPG characters have been male.

I guess I'm 'old' by SS standards, although the longer I'm here, the more adults I discover as absolutely in love with books and HP as I am! Although I went to college to be an Elementary teacher, I only taught for a few years before I decided I wanted to try something else. My job now is super secret government work that I just can't talk about (Okay, not really... it's just kind of complicated and boring to people not in the civil service). I still love kids, though, and I get to work with them through volunteer work in my free time.

I also love books of all sorts, and I'm an avid reader. I try to read at least 50 books a year, and I'm already at book number 10 for 2012! I'm always looking for new books, too, so if you have some suggestions or want to talk your favorite reads, definitely drop me a line. I'm also currently addicted to watching TV shows on Netflix, so let me know if you have a favorite show that you think I might be missing!

During my time on SS (almost nine YEARS!), I've worn a LOOOOT of hats. Outside of the school RPG, I've worked in both FanFiction and Knockturn Alley (our RPG section). I joined Snitchseeker specifically because of FanFiction, in fact, and I've written a few stories and even completed a drabble thread a while back. This past year, I competed in NaNoWriMo with fellow mod/staffer Tegz, and we're currently finishing up a massive Rose/Scorpius FanFiction that we hope to post here on SS.

I think I'm most active and visible in our RPG areas on the site. In the school, I started out as a mere Ravenclaw, and over the years, I acted as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Ravenclaw Head of House, and Headmaster (twice!). My interest in writing and being extremely nosy are put to use in my role as Daily Prophet Features Editor, and in the Ministry of Magic RPG, I once played the Minister of Magic, although I'm much better suited to my IUMO Division Chief character now. Whew!

I'm currently taking a breather from grown up woes and reading 'The Throne of Fire' by Rick Riordan. He also wrote the Percy Jackson series, only this series is about the Egyptian pantheon instead. I don't dig it as much as I did Percy, but I dooooo love Egyptology.

Oh, that's a good question! For sheer viewing pleasure, probably HBP for spending more time in plotty fun stuff and character development. The actors get to have a lot of fun, what with Ron and the love potion and Harry and the Felix Felicis. I also love DH part 2 because it is all actiony bits from the book, plus some of the most compelling stuff JK wrote is in there.

But for cinematic value, I think PoA is a beautifully imagined movie visually.

Hm. I think I'm going to say McGonagal. It helps that we have all that awesome back story on her from Pottermore and kind of nudges her over from minor to major character, but I like her whole firm-but-fair strategy. Plus she rocks the tartan. And now I want a biscuit.

There are no words for that, Julz. You know how it is.

For straight up entertainment, I think my current Headmaster, Gaellen Tate, is a lot of fun to play. He has a really biting wit, so he gets to say all those mean, sarcastic things that happen in my head that my nicer characters keep to themselves.

But I do love how I got to watch Copernicus Kettleburn, my student character, grow from being a fifth year to the somewhat confident man he is today. It's cool to look back and recognize change in him.

aww only somewhat confident? hehe. We love Copey. As you know. Name three RP charries that OTHER people play that you wish you could play with more that you haven't really had a chance to play with.

Would you ever think of 'confident' as an adjective to describe Copernicus? Hehe.

THREE? Hmmm. That's hard, because I admire so many good RPers and would love to get to play with them. We have a lot of strong RPers on this site, and a lot of kooky, creative characters.

I always liked/didn't get enough play time with epic RPers like Con_Stripes, XanaSnape, Ama, and Nabs, so I guess I'll list them. I can't rule anyone else out because the chance still exists to play with them, but I WANT TO PLAY WITH ALL OF YOU. I really, really do.

I was ghost siggied, actually. I did not put that one in, but it amuses me SO much.

it wasnt just Tate-- although he reinforced the idea it was all the way back to Rae, although maybe i was just confused cuz you know my first term RPing there was no Hogwarts

I was once obsessed with Bott's beans too but then.... they got expensive and not tasty.

How about... What types of things tend to annoy you in an RPG (besides the usual things I hear from people like shipping and Mary Sues)? What types of things do you enjoy the most? Hmm? Hmm?

I think Rae had a broad Gryffindor streak in her, but that isn't to say that she was MOSTLY Gryffindor. Just enough to jump into the fray willingly from time to time.

Yup, I'm an old man with a long white beard. How did you KNOW that??!?

I have Copernicus in Ravenclaw, Hunter Bones in Slytherin, Tate in Gryffindor, and Caedwyn Howard in Hufflepuff. One in each.

I have a lot of movies that I like a LOT, although I'm not one to watch a movie over and over. There are too many I haven't seen yet! That being said, there are some rom-coms that I have in circulation from time to time: While You Were Sleeping, You've Got Mail, Penelope, several tellings of Jane Austen novels... hehe.

Hmm, that's hard. I have some favorite authors I like to revisit: Jane Austen, Anne McCaffrey, LM Montgomery. This answer is sort of like my movie answer... how I can I reread stuff when there are so many new books I haven't read yet ?

As for the Glitterpuff, Fletcher was being all smooth and moody and trying to dazzle, and I think the glitter was a better descriptor than anything else. Of course, Tate says exactly what he thinks, so he is mostly responsible for that nickname.

Come in and stay a while. Pull up a chair and stuff.

Annoying:
Attention hogs (thinking your own RP is more important than anyone else's/the school RP or requiring all scenes to be about you)
Mass cloners (since most stuff is simultaneous in the school, how do you explain being in ALL locations at once??)
Pre-shippers/Pre-planners (A well written character will direct a much more satisfying plot than one you plot out for them, plus you can really play with people in the moment instead of being constrained by what you 'know' will happen)

Enjoyable:
People will believable quirks and flaws IC
Character growth
Age appropriate behavior
Subtlety

You read a lot, huh? I'm lazy when it comes to reading, but when I'm not rereading the books of JK, or I am forced to read books for school, I like the Aghata Christie books ... Have you read them? Like it? My suggested reading is also the FF that my mother wrote: Flora Riddle, especially its sequels FR2 and FR3 (but I think she has not posted here).

Mashed. For my whole life, it is standard information that all special holiday meals MUST have mashed potatoes for Ern. True fact. We went through a rough patch when my sister wouldn't eat them anymore, but she's back in my camp.

I went through quite an Agatha Christie phase for a while, especially because we had a big book of Agatha Christie plays in my house growing up. I've read some, and I think she's pretty brilliant. Do you have a favorite story by her?

And is your mom on SS? Did she post her stories here?

Um YES. I mean, look who he's married to. That's gotta be a strike in his favour, either by boosting his confidence or by indicating that he had the guts to get permission to marry her, and then actually ask her in the first place. she has so many things to say right now that aren't appropriate to further underscore this point
