 Upon entering this large classroom, it is very obvious what its purpose is. This room is dedicated to teaching Muggle and Wizard Music and is used by members of both the Frog Choir and Orchestra. Instrument cases of all shapes and sizes as well as rows of music stands with accompanying stools fill the inside of this room. In the front, a conductor's stand is positioned in between a polished black piano and a complete drum set.
For many at Hogwarts, students and adults alike, this is one of their favourite places inside the castle. At various hours throughout the day, wonderful music is made and you get to take a break from anything overly theoretical and hone your musical talents. Fortunately for those in Transfiguration or in other parts of the castle, your marvelous melodies cannot disturb them for the room is completely soundproof. So play as loud as you want! This space can also be reserved after scheduled class hours if you and your friends have formed a band and need somewhere appropriate to practice.

Zephyr was no musician, and he had no inclination to be. He liked music, of course, but more as an enjoyment than something he wanted to create or to perform. His "performance" was for the Quidditch pitch and the pitch alone.
Buuuuut...that didn't mean he wasn't curious about playing music sometimes.
He was procrastinating on a couple essays right now, and there was no Quidditch practice scheduled today, and he felt like he had explored every inch of the castle and nothing really caught his interest right now...except for this room.
And luckily - it was empty right now. It seemed like there was always someone coming or going from this room, or a group rehearsing in here, or whatever else, so even if he had been curious before, he couldn't find a time to check it out without disturbing someone.
But now he had free reign!
Zephyr's first stop was the piano. It was big and nice-looking, but it had a place to sit and somehow seemed the least intimidating to try. He plopped down on the seat and let his eyes scan over the black and white keys. This unlocked no new information for him, of course, but it seemed like the right thing to do before trying anything.
But then he lifted a finger and pressed down on one key. A clear note rang in the air for a moment before soon vanishing. He continued with this path though, trying another key with one finger. And then another. And another. Not aiming for any melody or trying to string the notes together, just testing out each one individually.

Although it had been her goal to scour every inch of the castle this year, there was still more than she would like to admit that she hadn’t seen. She had passed this room plenty of times, but only today deemed herself having enough time to explore it. Unfortunately for her (or for the other person), it was already occupied.
She entered anyway, sliding along the wall next to the door and trying to stay out of sight and unnoticed. She watched the boy at the piano for a moment. She was pretty sure she recognized him as being in her house. She’d spent a lot of time cataloging her fellow Ravenclaws. Still, she didn’t know his name. Just that she was certain he wasn’t in her year.
She was also fairly certain, from the looks of things, that he didn’t actually know how to play the piano. Emboldened by that assumption, she stepped away from the wall, toward the boy. “Can you play anything?”

So engrossed was he in his note-testing that he did not realize someone had entered until they spoke. His finger landed harder on the next random key in surprise, sending a sudden stronger note to hang in the air, almost ominous. For a split second he wondered if he was gonna be in trouble for playing around, but when he looked up and saw a fellow student, Zephyr grinned in relief.
"Not really, no," he replied with a shake of his head. "I'm just messing around. Do you play?" Maybe that was a silly question because it seemed likely she could, considering she was here. But then again, it was also possible she was like him and just wanted to test things out too! So maybe it wasn't silly at all.

Cat had to hold back a giggle at the boy’s surprised piano note. She returned his smile, though. And shook her head at his question. “No, I do not.”
However, she did not want to be outdone. Or underestimated. Or whatever. So she continued, “I play the violin, though. Maybe there’s one in here.” Not that she particularly wanted to play for an audience, but she’d walked in on him and maybe it was only fair?
She glanced around the room briefly before looking back at the boy. “You look familiar. Are you in Ravenclaw?” Important things first.

Well, at least he wasn't alone! In not playing piano, at least. Which also probably meant she wasn't upset with him for messing with the piano, and she was smiling, so that was a good sign.
"Oh, cool!" Violins were neat too. Not that Zephyr knew any more about them than he did the piano, but he liked the sound of them. "I bet they're around here somewhere. They've got lots of instruments in here." A lot of variety, which seemed like a good thing, though how many students actually played each of them? He had no idea. "How long have you played? Do you like playing it?" He had more questions, but maybe those were good to start with.
"I am, yeah!" He hopped up off the piano seat. "I'm a third year. Oh, uh, and my name's Zephyr." Actually, he probably should have led with that. His nana always said it was impolite to assume people knew his name just because he was on the Quidditch team. "What's your name?"
