| | | Back Cars If you want to be the last to leave or want to hang with the more rowdy crowd, then the back passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what your summer plans, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by exchanging addresses, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

Fynley didn’t recall mentioning anywhere that he was in love. His right eyebrow shot up in response to listening to her prattling on about what a fantasy as if she was some heroine in a romance novel. “Riiiiight.. well it’s still relatively new so..” His shoulders shrugged in response. Was he happy? Sure. Did his face light up and his heart beat faster every time he saw him? Maybe. But all this lovey dovey romance stuff was not particularly their style. “The beach is nice. I live— My parents live near the coast.” Taking a stroll along the pebbles used to be the way he’d clear his head. “Sounds like you kept your time pretty occupied then?” Best way to be really, distracted. Obviously Arden hasn’t flunked her OWLs. Was he trying to make her jealous? Because it was working. Like, reaaaaally working. "Yeah, thanks for that, Fynley," she said with a playful roll of her eyes, but at least she was chuckling. "My mam can make a lot of those things without using animal product, though," she shrugged. "I've been raised that way, so...I guess I am used to not eating that stuff." And some of it even hurt her stomach if she DID ingest it.
Well, Arden had in fact failed a few of her OWLs. She was choosing to focus on the positive, though. And the ones she had failed weren't worth her time anyway. "I did. And my mam always needs help with the sanctuary. My mam's a herpetologist, so attached to our little house is a reptile and amphibian sanctuary, but mam focuses on snakes of all kinds and....axolotls. As a kid, I really took a liking to them, so I think she kind of keeps up with them for me," she shrugged and averted her gaze. Saying it aloud made her think about how her mam really DID love her, even if she was hard on Arden lately.
Even if they spent so much of the summer fighting and arguing, yelling. Arden and Eden just got under each other's skin sometimes, as mothers and daughters sometimes do.

She wasn't looking at them, she was distracted, searching for someone else. She felt her mother squeeze her shoulder as if reading her thoughts. Her words from a couple of months ago echoing in her mind, 'this is why I didn't want you to find him.'
She did know, deep down, that he wouldn't come, but that didn't mean it wounded her any the less. She forced herself to snap out of it and focused on her little brother who looked utterly bewildered by where he was and what was happening. Her father too, was wearing the same expression and she let out a sad laugh as she uttered her goodbyes to them and hugged each tightly. And then her mum. She could only be Rowan's mother with that mane of red hair. The tears came when they embraced. They promised to owl each other as much as possible, and that she could come home for all the holidays and see her muggle friends.
Her father loaded her trunk onto the train for her, and with a tearful smile, a ruffle of little bro's hair, she picked up the carrier housing Helix, and boarded the train.
She found an empty compartment and slipped inside, closing the door behind her. She made sure to sit facing forward next to the window so she could get a good view as they approached Hogsmeade, the cat carrier occupying the seat next to her. The train pulled out of the platform and she waved to her family, watching them disappear from view.
She sighed softly and wiped under her eyes. This was HER choice.
Everything was fine. Fredrick was ... ready.
Maybe. Probably.
Not that he could do much about it, because he was on the train, and there was honestly no one at the platform waiting for him anyway. So, onward and just ... onward, he needed to go.
Running a hand through his hair, out of a bit of anxiousness, the brunette made his way through the corridor of the train, hoping to find any compartment -- that was empty, but nope. There was always someone in there, chatty first years or returning ones or .. territorial friends ---- eventually he gave up and decided to just go in to the next least crowded one he found. Especially when he noticed there was only one person in there. "Hey" He simply added with a small tight smile, before moving to sit across her - definitely not bothering to inquire of the girl was waiting on friends or anyone else.

Rowan had managed to pull herself together - she hoped that there was no evidence of red eyes or splotchy skin to suggest she might have been crying. She reached for her satchel and dug inside, pulling out a compact mirror and opening it to inspect herself. Didn't look too bad – it wasn't like she'd cried buckets. Just a few melancholy tears. She popped it away and got comfortable for the journey, using the new jumper her gran had bought her on their shopping trip to Diagon Alley, as a pillow. She leaned against the window so that she could watch the landscape and mentally prepare herself for what was to come.
It was so nice to have some alone time with her thoughts. The calm before the storm of the start of year feast. Her privacy, however, was suddenly interrupted—she sat up straight with a start--when the door slid opened and in stepped a boy who didn't even ask if he could join her! And he just sat. That was... kind of rude. Rowan bristled slightly.. but then hid that irritation with a tight smile in return to the invading person. “O-oh.. Hi.”
Helix, (the black cat in the carrier beside her on the seat), started to hiss at the stranger and Rowan poked her fingers though the cage to nuzzle his face and calm him down. “I'm sorry." She said softly to the boy. "He thinks everywhere is his territory. And he's very antisocial.” Which should be fun to deal with in the dorms of whatever house she was sorted into.

Even if they spent so much of the summer fighting and arguing, yelling. Arden and Eden just got under each other's skin sometimes, as mothers and daughters sometimes do. He could respect her choices without ever wanting to partake in them himself. What he couldn’t do was give up puddings. He also wasn’t intentionally trying to make her jealous either. “Sorry” he chuckled. “I’ll take your word for it.” His mum wasn’t a particularly good cook, they just had the basics which made the Hogwarts feasts even more enticing.
Fynley thought that he could talk but Arden was giving him a run for his money on the chatting front. He realigned his position to place his legs back on the seat in front of him and get comfy again, only this time his feet were well away from where Arden was sat. No one needed to be subjected to the potential smell of his feet. “Surprised you’re not in Slytherin seeing as you’re already exposed to plenty of snakes” he laughed. “I don’t mind animals but we’re not really a pet family. I don’t even take Creatures.” Probably would’ve failed that too anyway. “Do you think that’s what you’ll do in the future then?” Seeing as sixth year was probably that year they had to make these serious decisions. Guess who still had no idea?

Guess who still had no idea? Arden COULD talk. A lot. It made up for how quiet her brother was, and for how timid he could be when meeting new people. Arden had never been that way. Shy wasn't even in her vocabulary. "Do you REALLY think I'd fit in there?!" she made a face. Not that she disliked Slytherins inherently or anything, but she felt so at home in Gryffindor. Hufflepuff, too, would have been a good fit for her, seeing as Starr Toros was one, too. "I've practically been raised alongside me' mam's first snakes. Daisy and Drago are even older than I am - " she sighed. "Daisy WAS older than I was. She passed away in the spring." RIP to the sweet, calm cornsnake.
And here they were, discussing what she wanted to do with her future. She had recently voiced this to Moritz, and the more she spent the summer reflecting the more she felt like she could totally do this. She had even asked her parents what they thought, and as usual, they were supportive of whatever she wanted to do. "Well....I kind of want to work with animals, but not in the way you're thinking," she grinned. "I want to open a cafe with magical plants and herbs just...surrounding everyone, and reptiles and other things of that sort behind glass against the walls. I want to have, like, lush forest vibes. Me' grandmam is a baker and opened her own bakery in Ireland, so I think...I think I want do that." It was so very specific, but her eyes lit up as she spoke. How unique would that be? And COOL? And surrounded by her favorite living things all the time?! AND she'd get to learn to cook? Well, more advanced cooking and whatnot.

My sisters are off with their friends but only after I kept telling thems I’ll be fine on my own and that I was looking for you and Gilly.” Without a doubt, however, the twins at one point track him down to check in on him. “I thinks she will.’’ Ary thoughtfully leaned his temple against the back of his seat, his gaze still fixed on Drake. "The Express comes to a stop ats the Hogsmeade Train Station. I suppose she’ll meet us there, then we all go over with the boats.” Yes, that made sense. “Where’s Gilly?” Had Drake managed to lose his sister somehow? “It’s okay to be nervous. You can stand next to me in the line while we wait to be Sorted if it’ll help.” Ary knew he wouldn’t stick around long since his surname started with ‘A’ but he could still be there for Drake for a bit. The only other time he felt such a high level of concern for anyone is Bry and her Ninja Warrior training stuff. “I can hardly wait, honestly. I really don’t mind which House I get into, but I hope I’m in the same one with at least you, Bry or Gilly.” But... Did they take a sortee's preference into consideration if that sortee just didn't.... Fit? That's what he was REALLY worried about. Did you get on the train really quickly then? This seems like really good train real estate. You must have been one of the early birds!" not that he REALLY knew what could be consider prime real estate on the Hogwarts express given this was... His first time. But still. "That's nice they were so worried about leaving you alone though!" Drake was grateful he had Gilly to experience things WITH but he imagined it was also really nice to have older siblings who were knowledgeable and could give direction because they'd already done it.
Ahhh, that made sense. Despite his less than confident feeling that Bryony even liked him, he was still glad they'd be making the journey together. "Good! I bet she'll be already in the best spot to observe and find you too!" which wasn't a bad thing - she seemed to have a magnet when it came to Aryan. "I got separated from her between the platform and here. I'm hoping she finds us... But I might go look at some point too if she doesn't." He very much did not like the idea of his twin spending their first ride ALONE. Drake brightened a bit at the offer to stand with him, and gave an enthusiastic nod. Standing up with Gilly and Aryan on either side certainly made him feel a curmudgeon braver. "Okay! As a B I shouldn't be too far behind you either so... At least we'll know quickly?"
