A maze of thousands upon thousands of books, the library is heaven to any book-lover. Upon entering the high-ceilinged room, the smell of books, both ancient and new, hits you. There are many tall, narrow shelves neatly lined up, each divided into different sections -- charms, potions, Muggles, fiction, and so on. If you find a book you're interested in, simply make use of the sliding ladder or summon the book with Accio to retrieve it.
But the library just isn't a labyrinth of books. In the heart of the library and on the outskirts of it are tables and seating areas designated for quiet research and reading, some with accompanying fireplaces or large stained glass windows. Tucked away in the very back of the library is the Restricted Section, which requires a key that the librarian keeps on his person at all times and permission to enter because of the more mature titles and content that are tightly locked and chained within. At the entrance stands the front desk where the school librarian can usually be found, who will happily recommend a book, check out a book for you, and help you with any of your library needs.

Carwyn Eris would like it to be known that he didn't complain... but when a 1406 page tome fell through your hand and landed on your toe it hurt. Especially when it just caught you just... so. He couldn't remember if there was a qord for having such rotten luck, especially when the book that had fallen was ancient and he winced just as much at dropping it as he did at the pain it caused.
Gingerly picking it up, he had just managed to secure it back in its rightful place when he heard voices. Actual voices, not ghost voices he thought. Or he hoped... it was getting harder to tell them all apart.
Sighing, he moved through the stacks and towards the voice. "Oh, Headmaster. Hi." He'd long since given up with names. He was so bad at them lately, and that said a lot about the state of his memory considering how good he usually was with names he had a biiiig family, names were a thing.
He looked around at the students spreading out and ... nope. He couldn't remember anything about a field trip to the library. "Uh... anything I can help with?" Or a clue? Did he forget a Defense session???

Could a ghost lose their memory? Probably not but Nick was beginning to question his all the same. He knew what year it was, but he also knew what year he’d seen this other set of students. Now with everyone losing colour so rapidly, they all looked alike and he could never tell when he was talking to one from the present or the past.
Floating up from the floor beneath, Sir Nicholas stopped when he saw a few students and staff gathered in the library.
“Why hello! Fancy running into you all here. Looking a little paler than I remember but good to see you!” Truly. The ghost feared one day he wouldn’t anymore. It was concerning to say the least.
“What might you be looking for?”
Some of them were clearly looking. Perhaps he could help.
While others were eager to start searching, Sunny was keen on taking some quick notes post-seance. In case he forgot these things, you know? He lagged behind the rest of the group in order to do so, but some sacrifices had to be made! When he finally did wander inside he happened to be directly behind the floating figure.
They were all looking a little ghostly these days, eh? Sunny almost mistook the real one for another one of the students. "We're on the hunt for Arturo's book, yeah?" He looked around to confirm. Or was it Algernon's book? ..... Albus' book?

Suddenly there was an influx of people including the Headmaster. She had no idea who those people he mentioned were, but she was more than willing to help look. They were looking for a weather book? "Did the person leave it here? Or do you think it's in the right place?" she asked wandering around the stacks looking for out of place books. Maybe weather charms were what they were looking for? She headed that way while everyone fanned out.
"We're looking for a book. Someone said weather." she said to the librarian as she passed.
Oh. And there was an actual ghost! "Hello Sir Nicholas." she greeted happily, momentarily distracted from her task. What was she doing again? What sort of book was she looking for.

"You know, it will be a pretty big fall when you come off that high horse of you." Blake wanted to stormed off, maybe curse her a little before he went, but then he sighed a huge sigh and told Claudine "I'm not sure where we fell off the wagon, but I'm game to start over if you are." There ... that was that....
Claudine actually wished that Blake would roll his eyes that hard. Maybe if she got lucky, the boy’s eyes would stick in some weird way so that his gaze would be anything but the right way. Sadly, no form of eye rolling happened and she was deeply disappointed. All was not lost, however, for Blake was closing his book. Did this mean he was leaving? Oh, good.“You’re right. I don’t need anything from anyone.” But it wasn’t because of any stuck-up reason Blake might think. It was only because she had learnt that no one could be trusted and that humans were a constant disappointment to each other. It would take a very special and patient person to change her opinion. Blake Ryan was not that person. Despite her reasons for not needing help, Claudine didn’t find it necessary to clear up any misconceptions he may have of her.
Claudine shrugged. “If I do take fall, I’ll make sure to use some magic to cushion it,’’ came her reply in a sweet, sarcastic tone. Oh? He wasn’t sure? Then she’d be happy to offer some insight. “Well, I never liked you from the inception. You’re a big baby with no backbone. Aside from that, you're Grantham’s boyfriend. I want to keep away from anyone who’s close with her.’’
Having been in the Spirit Room with the rest of the group, Morgan followed them all to the library. Except... at some point between the dungeons and the fourth floor, he forgot what they were doing. And since he was following a group of students, he simply assumed he was on his way to class, as he had taken up the practice of following groups of students the past couple of months to make sure he got to class on time.
But what class was this? He didn't remember having a class that met in the library, but memory was an issue these days. And who the heck was Arnold?? Was he a classmate of his? And speaking of books...
"I forgot to bring my book too," he said to no one in particular, still thinking about his class materials, still not knowing what class this was. "Good thing we're in a library, huh?" Morgan laughed to himself, thinking that was pretty funny.
Did they have class textbooks here? Sounded like they were studying weather charms today so he started to scan the shelves for something along those lines.

Oh?
"A book you say?" Well this was certainly the place for that! Although, it didn't seem they knew what book they wanted. Was it a weather book? Arturo's book? Andrew's book?
"Perhaps I can be of some assistance." He offered. Floating over to one of the shelves. "I'm sure Professor Eris will be a great help as well." The man was the librarian and spent copious amounts of time in this place.
"Now then, what does this book look like? Do you know the author?"
Anything that could give him a clue because right now he had no idea what book they were talking about.

Isla had wandered all the way down an aisle and was coming back into view when she heard Sir Nick. She nodded. Yes. A book. A book that he had told them to look for. Or, rather, he told them to tell Albert that he'd left it lying around in the library.
So Professor Eris could help them? That was the Potions professor, right? Was he even around? She couldn't exactly tell with everyone being so transparent. She shrugged when Sir Nick asked what the book looked like and who the author was. "Nobody knows," she said. "You mentioned it to Fiona and me in the Great Hall. You said to tell Albert he'd left his book in the library." So...shouldn't Sir Nick know what the book looked like?
Of course, with the way everybody's memory was around here, who knew if he even remembered or not. Even still, he probably knew more about the book than anybody else did.

"HI NICK," Bernie yelled across the library, naturally not seeing Professor/Librarian Erised hanging out there with him. He was pretty transparent today, did he know that?
But while everyone else was interrogating Nick, Bernie was sidling up to Sunny Raine.
"What are you writing, Mr. Weatherman?" Bernie got real close to him and tapped on his little journal thingy. "Are you writing a book about us? Should we be looking for YOUR book?"
Har har, anyone hear that joke? Morgan McWhatnot wasn't the only one with jokes here.

.... A book.
"Uh... well... You are in the ... right place?" Carwyn said to the students as they moved past him in their search. Books he could definitely help with. Especially with his lists he had painstakingly written out to help him remember which books were in which stacks.
The library had sooooooo many books. He sighed happily and looked around, distracted by his love for the educational archive.
... He saw the Headmaster and Nick and blinked. What had he been doing?
.... Uhm. Book. .... Did he hear someone say weather? And Albert? Which Albert? The Slytherin Albert? Carwyn was so confused.
He left the stack of books he had been putting back onto the shelves and moved closer in the hopes of gaining some form of information to help in the search. "Weather..." He muttered to himself before going to the main desk to look at that looooooong hard written list he had.
"Umm... Check the bottom row of books in the Charms section, there are some books there that might be useful...?" He called out before he continued looking down the list for anything other leads.

“I’m not too sure.” Malachi admitted to the Ravenclaw’s question of whether the person had left it here. “Some other students say Sir Nicholas told them about a book. I dunno who’s book it is.” But he knew who the book in his hand belonged to. Mr. Rainy Sunshine over there. He’d give it back to him once he was sure it wasn’t useful.
Until then...he’d hold onto it here.
And speaking of the ghost, there was the dead man of the hour and the Librarian. Between the two of them, this search would surely go faster. He left the explanation to Bellcharm, figuring she would know what she was talking about.
“Charms might be a good place to start, good idea....Librarian.”
Grandson’s question to the rain man had Trent shaking his head. “We’re not looking for his book, I have it right here. It’s...Anderson’s book Bellcharm said we need to find.”
And they said his memory was going bad. Sheesh.

Gabi had every intention of going to the seance (even if she was skeptical about it) but she had...forgotten completely. She'd been busy doing...either her hair or her outfit. One of the two had pulled all of her attention away and before she knew it, BAM! It was well past the ghost summoning hour. She'd headed to the spirit room, nearly broken a leg falling down the stairs as the castle had had another episode of serious vertigo, only to catch the large group leaving and going to the library.
And on the way to the library...she'd gotten lost because she forgot which way the staircases were turning. Merlins beard. She knew she was completely losing her marbles and doing her absolute BEST not to show it. It was quite obvious though - she didn't have a speck of makeup on today, and she'd forgotten to put her left diamond earring in. Gabriela Recard was having a ROUGH time, ok?
She finally made her way to the library and saw that the group was already searching for...something. A book, according to Trent? Ok, Gabi could do this. She surely could focus for more than a few minutes, long enough to simply find an old dusty tome on the shelves, right? Wait, who was Anderson? Why was his book important? Gabi was a little weary of trusting books after Sunny's disastrous attempt to fix this...but Trent had probably been at the seance so maybe Anderson was important.
"Albertson...got it," Gabi nodded, turning to the books directly next to where she stood. Those were Defense books, authored by people whose last names began with P. Oh. Wait. That wasn't where she needed to look at all, was it?

Isla was still a little annoyed that Sir Nick had shown up like he had no idea what book they were talking about. He couldn't help it, though. Nobody around here ever remembered much of anything anymore. She continued to search, though. Even in the Charms section, which is where the Potions professor suggested the look.
"Nothing so far," she said, her voice filled with slight defeat.
If only she could use magic, she could just cast light or a summoning charm or something. She didn't know how muggles did all this hard work without the help of magic anyway. It was way too time-consuming.
"Albert's," she correcting the headmaster and the...what did that lady teach again? Flying? Anyway. Albert. She was pretty sure of that name. She paused, a thought occurring to her. What if the book they were looking for was the same book Sunny Winter had? He'd been hanging around the castle almost all year. Maybe he'd found it before they had? "Sir?" she asked, looking toward the weatherman. "Where'd you get that book from?"

They kept throwing out different names. Everyone was certain of a different name each time they confirmed they were looking for a book. It made it neigh on impossible for the ghost to figure out what they could be talking about.
A book he told young Isla about? Albert? ALBERT. “Oooohhhhh!” The ghost exclaimed. Albert, of course. It left him even more confused and...oddly touched by the efforts they were making—but definitely confused.
Albert and his book hadn’t been on Sir Nick’s mind in literal months. He didn’t think they’d remember either but here they were on what looked like a serious search. “Well I’m sure Albert will be pleased to hear you’ve taken the search for his book so seriously. Especially with your own predicament to deal with.” A predicament he’d have thought more pressing but if this was how they wanted to go out, who was he to stop them?
The only problem was. “Why, Albert’s already come to collect his book! When I saw he had, I assumed you’d passed my message along.” And had literally never thought of it again. “Yes, had a big Arithmancy test. Came scrambling back into the library for his textbook like his trousers were on fire. I do believe he got an E. Oh won’t he be thrilled to know you all worried so deeply.”
If not slightly concerned. It’d only been an Arithmancy text. He could’ve borrowed a friend’s the ghost was sure.
“That was all the way back in October—November maybe. I daresay he’d have failed waiting on you to find his book for him.”

Carsyn had been oddly quiet during the whole seance thing, mostly choosing to listen and observe all the interactions back in the spirit room. This was all a lot to take in and the sixth year was still processing as she shuffled along with the rest of everyone to the library. Of course she wanted to find a solution, but processing the whole mess of a situation just seemed to take a lot longer these days.

But what Carsyn wanted to know was who was Albert? At first she had thought they'd been talking about the Fat Friar, but was he Albert or Alfred? And honestly the mention of the Arithmancy test was pretty much a giveaway that he hadn't been been talking about the Hufflepuff House ghost at all. Did Albert know Professor Divine? Was he another from this alternate universe that they didn't belong in?
"I daresay an arithmancy book probably wouldn't be helpful in this situation unless it could help us get out of the past," Carsyn mumbled. Honestly not helpful, which was why her eyes scanned the bookshelves idly instead. This was like looking for a needle in a haystack, wasn't it?

Her little legs were carrying her pretty quick this evening. She wanted to get to the library as quickly as possible. She assumed the students could easily keep up since they were all taller and had longer legs. Her rushed ways was more out of fear of forgetting what she was doing before she got there, but thankfully they had the note to remind them.
As she entered the library she looked around, now where would they be? "Headmaster! Headmaster!" It was easier to just get his attention to come to her instead of them looking all over the library for them.

Valencia was browsing the weather charms section when Sir Nicolas mentioned the book they were looking for had already been found. "An E?" she said tilting her head to the side. "Seems he could have used some more studying." Just saying.
Also, were they not looking for something weather related? She couldn't recall any weather related bits of knowledge in any Arithmancy textbook. Were they all still talking about the same thing here?
Hopefully someone needed some Arithmancy done. That sounded like fun. She'd volunteer handling it.
In response to the sudden yelling for the Headmaster she decided to shout back. "Back here in the charms section!"

Claudine followed the group to the library, still very much cheered by Heathen’s earlier words. She only hoped that what he had said to him in return about no one disappearing would prove to be true, and soon too. She was so tired of suffering with the transparency, the memory loss, seeing ghosts around the castle and everyone’s inability to do magic. For once, would Hogwarts be a peaceful place? Gosh. Claudine winced as the professor that she had followed called out for the Headmaster and eyed her reproachfully. Did she know she should not be calling out like that? What kind of example was she setting for the students regardless if this was an emergency?
See what she meant?
Wasn’t that a student yelling back? Shaking her head, the third year moved towards the sound of the voice in the charms section. Claudine really hoped the library group had found something useful.
Fortunately Sunny did not startle easily and the young student with the bob did not spook him! "Yes! If all goes according to plan it will hit shelves this upcoming fall!" The weatherman was clearly elated that someone was finally taking him seriously. "Come find me at a book signing and I'll even give ya a discount, kiddo!" If he remembered.
The conversation was unfortunately cut short when the Headmaster interjected. "There's my book!" Must have forgotten about it in the midst of all the chaos. He was relieved to see it! It was a collector's edition. He wasn't the only one interested in his book, it seemed. When Bellacharm (is that what they called her) began asking questions, Sunny gave her a look of confusion. "..... That book?" He pointed to his book that he must have lent the school's headmaster.
What was going on in the charms section? Sunny looked at those around him and gave them a big shrug. Guess they were all going to the charms section now!
Avalon was so busy rifling through the stacks that she barely registered the fact that Nearly Headless Nick had joined them. She had forgotten what book she was searching for about four times already, but luckily, she had scribbled it down on a scrap of parchment before she left the spirit room.
SPOILER!!: parchment
Book about weather. Had to do with a person whose name begins with A....I think?
Well, that wasn't very helpful. It seemed she had forgotten the person's name before she was able to write it down. Exasperated, she puffed out a breath of air and rejoined the group to listen to Nick. Thankfully, the ghost remembered that the book had to do with someone named Albert. But.....he had already retrieved it? Did that mean they were back to square one? And how did an arithmancy book have anything to do with weather, anyway?
Avalon was getting more confused by the minute. Her mind was racing. What were they supposed to do now? Before she could think of what to do next, the Ravenclaw heard an urgent shout from the front of the library. Great, what life-threatening emergency is waiting for us now? She tried to think positively - perhaps Professor Kitridge's group had found something helpful? But the fourth-year couldn't ignore the knot in her stomach.

”It wouldn’t.” The Headmaster agreed with his prefect before turning back to where he assumed Bellcharm was. He was even more confused now that Nick had explained what book they Slytherin had insisted they come looking for.
“Why do you have us looking for an Arithmancy text?” There wasn’t anything in one of those that would see them out of this predicament. Why had the young girl been so obsessed with helping a ghost pass his test—a test he could’ve studied harder for if you listened to Phillis.
“Alright, everyone. I think we need to regroup.” This, as it turned out, was little more than a wild goose chase and with how he kept fading in and out, they didn’t have time for that.
And then he heard Cassie calling. He waited for her to come find them, hoping she had a better time of fixing this.
“Yes. Here is your book.” He confirmed for the weatherman, not at all inclined to hand it over.

Carwyn looked confused from the Headmaster to the students to the Ghost. ... They were looking for an Arithmancy book??? Would that really help them right now? "uh..." He blinked, unsure that he could see that link. "He got an E... so the book isn't here then..." Carwyn looked around, confused and thinking.
He saw one of the girls looking through the books within the Charms section and he was still sure that that had to be the way to go. Right?? A book somewhere had to have the answer. That much he was sure - after all, why else would he be the Librarian if he didn't love the knowledge given within their pages.
Carwyn looked up at the shouting and frowned. "No shouting in the library." He murmured to himself as another student shouted back to direct whichever adult was moving into library and calling out for the Headmaster. "Ah. Professor." He couldn't remember her last name, but it seemed like she had something much more important to tell them so he didn't interupt.

Claudine soon enough found the group, what with their extensive chatter. One of the first persons she noticed was that stranger who she had not trusted from the day she first encountered him. The group seemed to be in some discussion about books but it was upon KingTriton that her attention was fixed. Regroup? Did that mean the library group had found something? Or no? Which reminded her…
She glanced at Professor… well, the lady professor before looking to Professor Egret then settling on Triton. She hoped the Lady professor didn’t think it rude that she spoke up about the clue first. “We found this at the Divination tower,’’ the third year said and at the same time fishing into her pocket to retrieve the fragile slip of parchment. It was held out to Triton. “It’s a clue of sorts.’’

Well she was here, now what? Her ears listened as she waited to see if the headmaster called back or came around the corner. Soon enough she heard someone say where they were and noticed Claudine taking off towards them. Following behind she caught up just as she heard the girl telling about the tower and handing over the parchment she had found.
"Yes, it seems the older Divination Professor's note stood the test of time. We found it exactly where she said." Though Cassie was not remembering her name nor where that was at the moment, it didn't matter she hoped the note had something they could use.
"Sir" She was looking at the weather man, "didn't you do some sort of spell?" She swore she had seen the spell before, 'There is spell she is telling us to do at the eye of the storm that is going on." Glancing around and seeing the others Cassie stopped thinking about the note.

Heath had noticed the smile Claudine gave him before they left the divination tower, very faint, but it was there. He hoped she was right about nobody disappearing, but just in case, he was glad he'd be with a friend when it happened. He just wished he didn't have to be with so many other people too! It wasn't out of dislike for anyone; it was just… Every time he faded in and out, he feared it would be his last, and the more times it happened, the harder it was to keep acting strong. If it got to the point that he couldn't keep up the act anymore, he would prefer not to have all of Hogwarts see him fall apart!
As Heath followed Claudine and Professor Kenobi through the library to meet up with the other group, his fear of being first to disappear was replaced with another even worse fear. What if he disappeared last, and he had to watch everyone he cared about go first? Just the thought of it made his heart hurt, and he instinctively looked around to make sure Claudine was still nearby. In an effort to distract himself before he lost the tenuous hold he still had on his unaffected facade, he focused all his attention on Professor Kenobi's voice. As long as he heard voices, he knew he wasn't alone!
As Heath listened, something Professor Kenobi said to the strange man stood out. A spell? When was this? Try as he might, he could not for the life of him recall anyone doing spells since… he didn't even know when anymore! Was he not there when this happened or did he forget he was there? He blinked, looking from Professor Kenobi to the stranger. If he did do a spell, that would mean -!
Normally Heath would stay out of it and let someone else speak up, but his fears of watching his friends disappear and of disappearing himself overshadowed his fear of saying the wrong thing. He turned to the strange man(Sunny). "If that's true, you must've found the eye of the storm. Where?" he said, his tone even and non-confrontational, though he may or may not have shot the man a look warning him not to even try lying. In his fading state of visibility, who could tell?
Would the strange man remember doing a spell? Would he even tell them if he did? If not, then how were they going to find the eye of the storm in time?
