Isla guess-timated that they only had about two minutes remaining now, so if that was the case, she was going to have the time of her life on these trampoline toadstools. She spent a good half minute just enjoying the fun of it, because let's be honest...THIS WAS FUN, OKAY? Getting her head back in the game, Isla looked around for some toadstools that might be easy to snatch. She saw a few just up ahead, so she bounced a few times to get some momentum, and then she sprung toward the next toadstool. There was a little orange toadstool nearby, and she was able to easily snatch it and put it in her bag. That had been the easiest grab she'd gotten so far. Maybe she'd just caught the toadstool off guard or something? Anyway, there were a few more nearby, but sadly, just as Isla was making a grab for one, they darted off in another direction. BOO. She abandoned the little group of toadstools she'd been eyeing and bounced toward another toadstool. She was able to jump up and grab another orange toadstool and toss it into her pouch before it got away. |
With the professor having called five minutes remaining probably like three minutes ago..... that meant that there was even LESS time to ensure Gryffindor had caught the If certain people didn't want to get into enjoying the FUN of bouncing, that was on them, honestly. Even if Carsyn wasn't particular sure of the educational element about this activity, except that toadstools are sturdy fungi in that they can withstand lots of bounces. But she wasn't bothered by that as she bounced onto another one, swiping another mini toadstool as she did. Wait .... was that .....what was that little guy doing trying to get away?? Her seeker eye fixated on one that looked like maybe half the size of the miniature toadstools she'd previously caught and it was floating down and trying to hide under the giant toadstools they were jumping on. Jump. Jump. Jump. Wait, which toadstool was it hiding under again? Another jump. Ahhh... there it was! Another jump, but more into a belly flop this time as she extended her hand out for the little guy ... and "Got it." She smiled, depositing it into her pouch. Can she just lay here a moment? These were kind of comfortable. |
1 striped toadstool So the gold toadstool wasn't like a golden ticket, then? Since the game was still going, Heath was going to take that as a no. What a shame! He was hoping he might actually win this thing for Ravenclaw, but now they were almost out of time. How much longer did they have? He had no idea exactly how much time had passed since Rainwater called five minutes, do he was going to guess he had one, maybe two minutes tops. Hopefully it was enough time to catch one last toadstool! He looked around, eventually spotting a small toadstool floating near the edge of the trampoline toadstool he was on. Well, this just got a whole lot harder! How was he going to catch it without falling off? There wasn't time to jump onto another trampoline and make a grab for the toadstool… or to look for an easier one to catch. He was going to have to just go for it and hope for the best. Heath moved as close to the edge of the trampoline toadstool as he could, and as he got closer, he saw that the toadstool above him was white with black stripes. It looked a bit like a zebra. Zebra toadstools… was that a thing? Because if it was, that was the coolest toadstool he'd ever seen! He shook his head. Come on, focus! it doesn't matter what it looks like; all that matters is winning this thing for Ravenclaw! Heath quickly found his footing, bounced, and… The good news was he caught the zebra-striped toadstool! The bad news? He misjudged the landing and slipped, falling backwards onto the trampoline toadstool. Nobody saw that, right? Please tell him nobody saw that! Ugh, one class… just one class where he didn't wind up looking dumb in front of everyone! Was that too much to ask? |

Something Carsyn was doing just now actually. She was bouncing dangerously close, for that matter. Um? "Thank you for the suggestion Carsyn. I'll take it into consideration." She gave the Gryffindor Prefect a sweet smile that obviously meant 'leave me alone'. Nevermind that her bouncing made Nina bounce a little too. She wouldn't actually be taking the suggestion into consideration. Annnnnnd exactly zero toadstools collected thus far by Nina Castillo. |
squeezing something in just coz i can - grabbing 1 "They're boring," Nem countered simply. It was true, and they knew this because basically everything was boring, and even the things that weren't initially always ended up being so pretty quickly. "Hurtful. Where'd you get the impression I'm not being serious?" Ahhh, here he was. Rainwater by name, Rainwater by nature. Raining on parades, dampening spirits, so on, so forth. "That sounds an awful lot like one of those limits you said didn't exist, sir." Which made him a liar. For shame. "I bet there's plenty of people in history who couldn't have made discoveries that changed the world without breaking a few rules here and then. Fortunately, I'm not one of them." Probably. They simply smiled back at Nina. No extra looks. We're all friends here. ... ... Perhaps it had been a little too much to expect a class activity a little more mentally stimulating than trampoline toadstools. Then again, something active was okay. Better, at least, than actually looking after a plant. So, having very little to pack away, Nem had easily bounced into the action to get collecting. Yoink, there was a blue one right there. |
Was Nina TRYING to sabotage Slytherin? Aboli found herself TOSSSSING toadstools in her direction, gently, so they wouldn't hit anyone too hard. COME ON NINA CATCH 'EM ALL. LIKE ASH. In between that, though, Aboli was jumping MORE CALMLY than before and doing her best to clutch that win for Slytherin. She was much more...proud? And stuff of being a snake than she had thought. Since her mother hadn't attended, she had no real ties to the school...her grandparents, she supposed, attended, but they often did not speak of their Hogwarts days. And so she seemed to have grasped the whole house pride thing on her own. Being a Slytherin was clearly her destiny, as well. Aboli just KNEW IT. She caught a red mushroom on one bounce, and a blue one on another. YIPEEE. |
wrappin' up, kids "FIVE! FOUR! THREE! TWO! ANNNNND ONE! TIME'S UP!" Gus called loudly into the bounce house and instantly the leftover miniature toadstools lifted high enough that no student was able to collect them as they were too high. "Come on in, guys! Bounce back over here! Empty your pouches into the box for your house and we can COUNT THEM UP!" Gus was pretty intrigued to see what the numbers were, given that there were still very close to two thousand toadstools still in the air. It actually looked like the kids had barely dented the number in there, which whilst disappointing... he figured they'd also had some fun. Except for Miss Castillo, who looked as though Gus was responsible for ruining her entire life. WHICH HE WAS NOT. Once all of the students had emptied their pouches into the correct boxes, Gus went ahead and counted them up. He gave them all time to collect their belongings and get ready for class to end before wheeling in his stash of chocolate frogs, breakfast bars, jelly slugs and licorice wands. "Alright, kids. The bounce just wasn't there today for Hufflepuff. Their box is EMPTY. Completely empty, actually. Zero toadstools. Glad you all seemed to have fun though." Perhaps he was a little disappointed that they hadn't even caught one, but he couldn't make that a thing. It wasn't fair and Gus was all about being fair, you know? "Grabbing a respectable 13 toadstools iiiiiiiiis Ravenclaw house! Their mascot flies, but... perhaps the members of that house didn't so much today. Good game, guys." "With a lead of 9 and with a total of 27 toadstools collected, the winners of something each from my collection of goodies, twenty points for their house as a whole and no herbology homework for a week is............. Slytherin!!! Sorry, Gryffindor. With 18 toadstools, you were close, but just not close enough. " But Gus had enjoyed watching the competitiveness show in his students and it had been better to see who thrived under this situation more than others. Learning tactic and all that. "Slytherin students, come collect your snacks and I'll see you in next class. Everyone else, I'd like you to submit a fact file on ten different hybrid plants by next class. Include the origin of them, any details in their life span, why they were created and what you would do to improve them. You're free to go - collect your umbrellas on your way out and stay safe in the rain." He was going to sit in his office and take a quick nap before he mirror called his kids and cried about missing them. "OH. Miss Gladin? Trinetta? I'd like to speak to you in my office, please. Aboli, can we catch up tomorrow?" CLASS. DISMISSED. OOC: Yay! Thank you for taking part in this Herbology lesson, lovelies. It's been super fun! I've loved reading reactions to Gus' antics, the imaginations of your characters and seeing how competitive some of them can be. |
At the sound of the countdown from five to one, Isla scrambled to try and snatch another toadstool, but it was a loss. The game was over, but her pouch was indeed pretty full. She hurried over and emptied her pouch into Slytherin's box. She waited around, anxious to hear which group was going to win the GLORIOUS prizes awaiting them! House points...chocolate...NO HOMEWORK! Truth be told, she was more excited about the last two than that first one, but the first one was pretty awesome, too! Anyway...Huffelpuff got zero? As in...NONE? Okay, sorry Badgers, but that was pretty pathetic. Ravenclaw was out of the running, but at least they got thirteen, which was thirteen more than the losing team. So it was down to Slytherin and Gryffindor... "YES!" Isla cheered, giving a fist pump as they were declared the winner. She waltzed over to the snack collection area as she ignored the homework being assigned. Oh, yeah. She could get used to this! "See ya later, Professor!" she said. 'CLASS DISMISSED'. Her two favorite words! |
Catch them all? No thank you. Nina was quite relieved when Professor Rainwater signaled the end to the activity and happily made her way off the trampoline toadstools. The announcement of Slytherin's win did nothing to change her opinion of the activity. In fact, the only reason why she decided to go up and collect snacks was to give them to Calyx, who would likely appreciate them. Otherwise she would have been fine without them. She thanked Professor Rainwater with a polite smile before making her way out of class. Maybe she was smiling a LITTLE bit. Because not having to worry about the homework meant there would be extra time she could dedicate to other things. Like NEWTs. (Or her boyfriend). |
*exits stage left* Heath had just picked himself back up when the professor started the countdown. Darn, not enough time left for one final grab! He climbed off the trampoline toadstool and hurried to dump his toadstools in the Ravenclaw box. He had just come back from collecting his school bag when he saw the candy stash. Wait, the winning team got their candy now, in front of everybody? Way to make ¾ of the class feel left out… Heath listened to the results, hoping more than ever for a Ravenclaw victory, and - Third place, in other words,* second worst. Now he was really annoyed for several reasons. He was annoyed that he fell on that last jump; not only did it make him look stupid, but it cost him valuable time. He was annoyed that Ravenclaw lost and even more so that they came in behind Gryffindor. He could practically hear his sister now, bragging about how her house was so much better than his in every way! Most of all, Heath was annoyed at himself. Even his best efforts weren't enough to give Ravenclaw a win. Story of my life, he thought. No matter how hard I try, I never come out on top. For what wasn't the first time this term (nor likely to be the last), he felt like he'd let his team down! He glanced around, giving all the Ravenclaws he saw an apologetic look. Whatever Heath felt in that moment, none of it was directed at the professor. He understood that, right? Just in case he didn't, Heath gave him a polite nod on his way out. "Bye, Professor." |
