Herbology Lesson 1: Toadin' Around
|
With the rain coming down, it was official. Winter was on its way and this Ravenclaw prefect was prepared. Yellow umbrella over his head, he walked down to the greenhouses under the murky sky, a miniature sun, right there in the grounds of Hogwarts. With a belly full of food, the strode in, giving his umbrella a shake on the precipice of the entrance before leaving it in the bucket that the Professor had so kindly left out. ”Don’t worry if you break my umbrella professor, I have more” he said…to no one though because the Professor was no where to be seen. ”uhh…Professor?” his eyes now going to the whiteboard. ”I'm watching? Don’t get too close my friends?” Huh. Creepy. Leaving the toads well alone, he stood several yards away as he waited for his friends to arrive, slightly curious what the deal was with the toads. Poisonous maybe? |
What a dreary afternoon. Avalon usually didn't mind the rain too much, but she couldn't deny that the uncharacteristically dark sky dampened her spirits and made her sleepy. She trudged down to the greenhouses, walking as fast as she could without actually running. Leaving her umbrella in the bucket outside, she entered the greenhouse cautiously. It was unusual for her to be so early to class, but she had finished her lunch early, so she figured she would head down to the greenhouses awhile. Glancing around, she noticed one of her housemates, but Professor Rainwater was nowhere to be seen. "Hey, Ewan!" She gave the Prefect a wave as she made her way into the room. EW! Avalon cringed as she noticed two disgusting-looking toads sitting on Professor Rainwater's workstation and read the cryptic message on the blackboard. Umm, creepy much? As far as she knew, Professor Rainwater wasn't an animagus. And even if he was, there was no way that his animal form could be so ugly. Well, he wouldn't have to worry about Avalon getting too close to the toads, because she couldn't be any less interested in them. She would keep a sizable distance from them, thank you very much. |
Rain. Ick. Gross. Wet. What more did Charlie need to say? Walking down to the green house in her bright pink, absolutely not uniform approved, rain jacket and matching rain boots, under an umbrella she managed to avoid most of the rain. Which was good because she absolutely did not need to have her already large amount of hair any poofier than it already was. Closing her umbrella as she walked through the door she shook off any extra water that was on her jacket, cause being wet was absolutely gross. Hanging her jacket up where they had done the year before she walked in further. She didn’t mind some of the cool flowers and plants that they learned about, but toads at the front and absolutely no professor around. Uh.... what gives Rainwater? She glanced over and noticed the Ravenclaw prefect and Avalon, wondering if they were just as confused by what was going on as her. Getting to her normal table she stayed absolutely as far away from Rainwater’s “friends”, no thanks. |
Noah could have sworn it was usually lighter even when it was raining at 1 pm in the afternoon? He was thankful that he had brought the bigger umbrella from home with him to Hogwarts because he was certain that he would have been soaked by the time he had made it to Greenhouse V for Herbology. Fortunately there was always a drying off spell that he could use if the weather was windy and gave him trouble with his umbrella. Stepping through the door, he turned around and closed his umbrella, shaking it a little out of the greenhouse in order to reduce the amount of water that they'd bring in and potentially create some sort of safety hazard. He placed it into the bucket. Turning around, he saw no sign of the Professor but saw a few students had arrived before him. "Hey!" he offered, giving them a smile and a wave. He walked further into the room but not too far because he noticed the whiteboard. Don't get too close to his friends? The boy's eyes dropped to the toads seated on the Professor's stool. "Hi Professor?" he said because the note had said he was watching. Was the Professor just hiding somewhere or... was he one of them...? Noah would keep his distance. Those toads looked a little cranky. |
Naya was in a good mood today, despite the nasty weather. She took the walk to the Greenhouse and for once didn’t mind the rain. When she arrived at her destination, Naya deposited her umbrella in the umbrella bucket. As she entered the Greenhouse, she was just about to greet the professor when she noticed that he wasn’t there.......at least he didn’t appear to be. One never knew with these Hogwarts professors. Naya saw the note on the whiteboard and then spotted the guests of the day. Professor Rainwater did not need to worry, the Gryffindor had no intention of bothering the toads. She took a seat, removed her rain gear and set to work preparing for class. |
Brrr. Despite her consuming a steaming cup of tea before departing the Great Hall, Claudine was still somewhat chilled. Collar turned up to protect her neck from the wind and a transparent, plastic umbrella held above her, she held her bag pressed against her chest as she gingerly eased her way to Greenhouse Five. Luckily, she had no accident of slipping or sliding on the way so she breathed a sigh of relief. The umbrella was closed then joined any others in the bucket. It was a relief to be in the warmth of the Greenhouse. But where was Professor Rainwater? And what were those poisonous looking toads doing there? Claudine backed away quickly from the stool to make her way to the back of the Greenhouse where she selected a seat. Collar fixed now? Yes, it was. |
Splish splash splosh. Splish splash splosh. Flora had made it a POINT, as she was walking towards the greenhouses, to splish splash and splosh in every rain puddle she had come across. And even a few times, she went out of her way just to do so. The Gryffindor was soaked. DRENCHED. And she was sure that, if she would take off her rain boots, there would be enough water in them to water at least half of the plants in one of the greenhouses. Oh well. She would dry off eventually and with how warm it was inside the greenhouse classroom, she didn't think it would take too long. "Hello, Professors." Did she know neither of the toads were the actual Professor? Toadally. |
It had rained on September first. It was raining now. It felt like it hadn't stopped raining since the moment school started back up and Nina HATED it. While she did carry an umbrella with her, she had also used plenty of charms on all of her clothes in order to repel the water because, um, no thank you. She would not end up like that one Slytherin (Odaline) who sogged up the entire Great Hall during their first feast a few weeks back. Nina had class. Figuratively and literally because it was almost time for Herbology. She quickly deposited her umbrella into the pocket and made her way inside the Greenhouse without stopping for water (she never did). Upon looking around she noticed a few things. First, the ominous message on the whiteboard. Professor Rainwater was so dramatic. Two, the absence of Professor Rainwater (a bold choice given some of her obnoxious classmates who would likely find themselves in trouble before class even began). Three, the toads sat on the stools. Professor Rainwater was giving them a hint as to what this lesson was about. It was clever. Nina could appreciate his dramatic flair in this one instance.... Did that Gryffindor just greet the frogs... As if they were professors? Um. ????????????? Nina worried about some of these people. Especially the Gryffindor ones. |
Anyone can be the kid that helped him by duplicating an umbrella earlier :3 Kitt didn't have an umbrella. For being muggle his whole life--until he wasn't--it never occurred to him that that was one of the things he needed to put into his luggage. Thankfully, someone had offered to duplicate their own and saved him the soaking of the week. He was very much grateful and would not be forgetting it anytime soon. But anyway, plant class. They didn't have that back at his muggle school and certainly not when he became homeschooled thereafter. Being here awhile, he was starting to see what wizards needed to learn about plants but .....that was not a plant. Not seeing the Professor, Kitt walked over to the stool and the toads. "Do we have toad plants, too?" He asked his classmates? "Are they like...half plant hybrids that grow in the ground then turn into toads after?" They looked like regular toads to him. |
Instead of using an umbrella or a charm, Louise took advantage of the rain and walked unprotected (besides a jacket) all the way down to Greenhouse Five. She had always liked walking in the rain. Besides, she could always use a drying charm later if she really got uncomfortable. The sky, though. That was weird. Wasn't it only early afternoon? Why was the sky looking all weird and dark like that? After getting inside, her red hair a bit wet, Louise shed her rain jacket and hung it up before eyeing the toads at the front of the class suspiciously. Interesting... What did toads have to do with Herbology? |
hi nina :) No umbrella? No problem. Nem was perfectly fine walking in the rain, and took his sweet time getting to the greenhouses. Still not long enough to even cut it remotely fine, but that was easy, because he hadn't lingered at lunch. Casting barely a glance at the toads or the sign on the board, Nem zeroed in on his old pal Castillo and immediately claimed a place right beside her. "Hope you don't mind," he said, sweetest smile plastered on his face... before he suddenly shook his head like a dog, flinging water from his sopping wet hair and onto his Slytherin friend. Just watering the plants. Or... well... more like the weeds. Details, details. |
Jillian liked Herbology but hated this rain. UGH. WHYYYY. This is not the most ideal thing ever. Jillian had her umbrella opened as she walked towards the Herbology greenhouses. She had her rain boots on because she hates the feeling of wet socks. Upon entering she deposited her umbrella outside and then noticed the whiteboard with the message and the toads. Okay, noted. She won't get too close. "Hello, Professor" she greeted him with a smile. "i hope you're having a swell day" some people like the rain. He could be one of them too. |
Yikes, the weather was terrible, though it was not surprising since it was already October. All she wanted after finishing lunch (with a warm mug of jasmine tea) was to have a lesson like Arithmancy in a cosy classroom, but it was time for Herbology. She held her umbrella over her head with both hands as she trudged down to the greenhouses. She had stopped bothering to use the impervius charm on herself every time it rained, instead choosing to dry her wet clothes with her wand. Leaving her umbrella in the bucket outside greenhouse five, she walked inside and looked around as she dried herself magically. She noticed that it was warmer inside … and also that the professor was not there. But he was watching them? Don’t get too close to his friends?? Her eyes fell on the stool with the odd-looking toads. Were these Professor Rainwater’s friends? She chuckled to herself as the first thought that came to mind was, obviously, toadstools. Moving past the toads on the stool, she stood next to Jillian and waved at her in greeting. |
Why is it every time he had to come outside, it was raining. It was starting to get ridiculous. Was it like this all the time? Thankfully he knew the Impervious charm and had placed it upon himself before leaving the castle. Even though he was able to remain dry, the weather was just abysmal and it made Drew slightly moody. He entered the Greenhouse, grumbling to himself about the awful weather and was about to find himself a spot a one of the benches when he noticed that there was no Professor but a couple toads sitting on stools and the note on the board. Nope. He didn't want to know. Instead he shook his head and found himself a stool to sit on. |
Tom wasn't sure what he thought of the weather, though he knew that the next lesson was herbology and that meant having to deal with plants, hopefully though they would be finding out about some nice plants today. Tom walked passed the Professors spot. "Mor...." Tom stopped and blinked at the stool, seriously had the Professor changed to toads. "Do you think the Professor is a toad and we have to kiss one to change him back?" Tom asked no one in particular, because he wouldn't be doing that, no sir, you could offer 100 galleons and he wouldn't do it. Tom went over to a stool and he just waited there, surely the Professor would come and enter soon. |
mention Noah, Kitt Aboli shook off her black umbrella before closing it and letting it in the bucket. It was also, ahem, ~charmed if anyone but herself tried to pick it up. So. Best not be doing that, people. Wouldn't want to break out into itchy hives or anything. But TOO many of her umbrellas had gone missing in this place, and Aboli was downright TIRED of it. So, she ducked into the Greenhouse and saw Noah immediately. She plopped down at his table and smiled. "I love the rain!" it was nice. And calming. And like...if she wanted to nap later, it was the perfect weather for it. "How's it going?" she asked her Gryffindor friend. It was then that she heard the question from the younger boy, the one who had MISLED her back in Creatures awhile ago, and she tried her best to play nicely. She had since learned his name: Kitt. Blake was a little confused when he didn't orginally see the professor on the front of the classroom. However, there were two toads .... and a note on the white board. Blake was certain their Professor was one of those two toads ... but which one??? Neither looked very friendly, and he certainly wasn't going to be touching any of them, toads could be rather poisonous and Blake would rather not die today. None the less, he studied them, hoping to guess which toad could be their professor. |
Naya, Noah and Drew! <3 A few people might grumble and complain about the rain, Stella was one of the few people who actually enjoyed it for once, but she loved if when it rained. There was nothing more satisfying to her then the smell of rain and hearing it, she calmed and soothe her. Walking happily towards the greenhouse with her umbrella in her hand, she closed it putting it in the bucket. Looking at what was written on the board she was clearly confused and a bit curious about what it was. Okay... we're they studying about how to not turn into a toad or so? Setting her stuff in her normal spot in the fromt, she smiled as she seen Naya, Noah and Drew. Giving them a soft warm smile she waved at them. " Hey guys, how are ya?" Looking at the toads she tilted her head curiously. "What do you think we're learning about? One thing I know, those toads don't look to friendly." Especially the one with the red spot on his head. |
This weather - the rain, the grey clouds, the general coldness - was making Lucas very glad for that cup of hot chocolate he'd had during lunch. He almost wished he had a cup on him right now, sipping it with one hand while the other clutched his umbrella as tightly as possible. It would make this rain more bearable, at least in his opinion. Reaching greenhouse five, the Gryffindor closed his umbrella and gave it a small shake outside. And there was a bucket of umbrellas too? Thank Merlin. He deposited the umbrella in the bucket with the others and, ignoring the water station, walked directly into the greenhouse for another Herbo- ......... .............. Uhhhhhh??? Professor Rainwater?????? Lucas came to an immediate stop by the entrance of the greenhouse. Uh? Was Rainwater not here? This was the right greenhouse, right? Apparently so, because of the number of other students that were here. Confused, his eyes scanned the greenhouse properly and then landed on the whiteboard and the single message that was written there. 'I'm wATCHING'?!??!?? Yeaaaaaaaah, that sounded creepy. Trying to ignore that, he shuffled forwards a little to get a better look at the, uh, toads? Toads that didn't look very friendly, either. He couldn't help but wonder if one of them was Rainwater in his Animagus form - dID he have an Animagus form? - and that's what he meant when he said that he was watching them. Yeah. But that wasn't something he could ask a toad, or a pair of toads, so he shuffled away towards an empty workstation. |
Bernie was still on her 'follow the prefects, they'll keep you out of trouble' game, so she had diligently followed Lucas Dakest all the way from the Gryffindor tower to here. And now she was sneaking in behind him, her hood still up to protect her from the rain, as she watched him look at the toads (so she looked at the toads, which did NOT look friendly) and then shuffle to a workstation (so she shuffled to a workstation right next to his). "HI LUCAS," the third-year then LOUDLY greeted the prefect, settling down next to him with a BIG grin. Yes, she couldn't just bother Carysn all the time. Had to share the love. And Lucas was SO FUN to bother. He was always a bit.... cautious. Yes, that was the word. Cautious and wide-eyed, always. |
Alexandre had basically ran all the way from the castle to the greenhouses. Because he didn't have an umbrella, see, so he wanted to minimize his time in the rain. Normally he wouldn't really mind, but he didn't think sitting in class while soaking wet would be super comfortable. As it was, he had still gotten fairly wet. But it was alright because he was immediately distracted when he walked into the greenhouse. No professor. That was strange. And a message on the whiteboard. He was watching? What did that mean? Alexandre cast a furtive look around the greenhouse. Where was Professor Rainwater? Was he invisible? Or was he...? Alexandre looked back at the toads. As the professor an animagus? While being a toad wouldn't be the most exciting he couldn't rule out the possibility. Alexandre peered closely at them, not getting too close as per the warning. He also lowered his voice in case anyone was listening to him. ".....Professor?" |
Missa had mixed feelings about the rain. It was nice to look at, but she hated wet hair, wet clothes, wet socks - well you get the idea. So, properly covered, and with an umbrella in hand - the seventh year made her way to greenhouse five. Frowning at the mud on her boats, she deposited her umbrella and entered the room. Rainy weather also made you kind of gloomy, you know - so maybe her feelings weren’t mixed, she just didn’t like rain. Anywaaaay, she found herself a seat next to Flora - and smiled at the younger girl before settling down. And then she noticed Jillian greeting the professor, and couldn’t help but be amused, “he is not here yet, Jillian. Unless you think he is one of the toads” |

So when Nemesis Upstead made his way over, she only spared him a cursory look. He was sopping wet. It was absolutely--"Eeek!" Nina recoiled. "Do yoU MIND!?!?!" She fixed the third year with a GLARE. Manners!? Had her housemate heard them?! Ugh! She had imperviused her robes, but her hair looked SO good today!! Nemesis did that ON PURPOSE!!!!! |
There weren't a lot of things that Shivvy didn't like - well, there were a few but she usually just chose to ignore them or stay away from them Snow was great. But rain was just...eh. Which was why she had RUN down from the castle, fast like the WIND, and DASHED into the greenhouse, probably elbowing someone standing by the umbrellas aside in her hurry. Sorry? Yeah that. "Hello Pro-" Oh. Nobody was there. Well nobody grown-up anyway. There were the students of course. And those two...toads. Was he an animagus??? Was one of those him? "Professor?" She took a tentative step closer to the one toad with the red spots. Did Rainwater have red spots on his body? Hmm. |
