Default Greenhouses

The Greenhouses are all kept neat and tidy by Professor Myers. Each one is evenly spaced out in their residing spot outside of the castle. There are five greenhouses, all of them done up to Professor Myer's idea of organization, which carefully follows past organization of the greenhouses with just a few changes. The air is a little crisper out here, students.

Greenhouses one through three are open to student aid and experimentation. If you're careful and confident, you can feel free to tend to the Venemous Tentaculas in Greenhouse Three or engage in a playful tug-of-war with the Devil's Snare in the Greenhouse Two. If you traipse through each greenhouse, you will identify almost every sort of magical plant that has ever been taught at Hogwarts. Bubotubers, puffapods, fanged geraniums, biting toadstools, flesh-eating shrubs, and so on..... and that's not even mentioning the assortment of Muggle flowers in Greenhouse One!

Each greenhouse has little shelves for cute or ordinary pots, as well as racks of tools and any other necessities you may need in the large corner cabinets. There's plenty of lab tables for setting up your own tinkering station, and sinks to clean up in too. Don't forget to add to the compost pile behind the greenhouses when you're done with your trimming!
OOC: Here's a basic guide of what you might find in each greenhouse; please remember to play realistically based on your character's age and skill level!

As she approached the greenhouses, she considered which one to enter. She hadn’t yet memorized which plants were in each of the greenhouses, but she knew that number one and number two were the safest to enter. After considering what she was after, she decided to enter Greenhouse one to obtain her coconut oil and lime essential oil.

Upon entering the greenhouse, the glorious smells flooded her nose. The earthy aromas mixed with sweet flowers always calmed her. There was something about being around all the life that soothed her soul. Her eyes scanned the room, looking for a palm tree with mature coconuts. “Here we are” she stated as she sauntered across the room and poked at a coconut on the tree.

She pulled her vial out of her bag and her wand out of her pocket. After making a few practice wand motions, fishing cast and whip back, she readied herself to cast the spell. “Natatraho” she commanded while using the proper wand movement. A thin stream of coconut oil followed the tip of her wand as she directed the fluid into the vial held in her right hand. The spell worked quite well and her vial was full in only a few moments. She put the stopper on the vial and began, once again, scanning the room for a lime tree.

“Ah, yes, that one will do” she said, making her way back across the greenhouse to the lime tree. The citrus aroma was crisp and refreshing. She pulled out a second vial from her bag and commanded “Natatraho!” Once again, a thin stream of essential oil flowed from the fruit towards the tip of her wand. She directed the liquid into the vial and placed the stopper on top.

Now it was time to collect her cauldron and other supplies to make her soap. Professor Myers said they could use the potions lab, but that was the last place she wanted to be. Professor Noble was sure to be found there and she didn’t want to be under his evil eye as she tried to make her soap. No, she would find a nice, safe, spot out on the grounds to make her soap.

While making sure any mess she had made while in the greenhouse had been cleaned up, Emmalyn sang softly to the plants. She wanted to thank the plants for providing her what she needed and she knew that they could respond well to song. Once finished, she headed towards the door, turning back one last time with a “Thank you” and left.

The days were slipping by fast and Max knew he couldn't procrastinate any longer. The Slytherin wasn't in the best of moods as he trudged into greenhouse one in order to complete the first part of the Herbology assignment. Make a soap and a face mask!? What kind of silly assignment was that anyway!?

He spotted one of the only flowers he recognised without having to reference his textbook and decided that would make do. He'd never heard of a sunflower soap but oh well. He then wondered if it was possible to make potato soap... he'd totally make that and send it home to his dad just for the giggle.

Anyway, time to get this over with.

After a rummage in his rucksack, Max emerged with the vial he remembered to bring along. But now to see if he remembered the incantation. It had been quite the mouthful after all.

"Natatataro!" He said firmly, unholstering his wand and doing the 'fishing' wand movement Professor Myers had shown them in class. Nothing happened. He tried several times and still ... nothing.

Frustration sinking in, Max had to reference his textbook anyway and realised he'd been getting the incantation all WRONG.

"Natatraho!" Yes! This time it worked and the fourth year directed the stream of essence into one of the vials and quickly stuck in the cork.

He still had the cinnamon essence he had collected from class earlier in the term and figured he may as well put it to use now so that he didn't have to go through this again. Sunflower soap with cinnamon fragrance? That would work, right? Shrugging to himself, the Slytherin pocketed the sunflower essence, shouldered his rucksack and made his way out of the greenhouse.

Okay… now here was the part where Kye was sure she would mess something up. Arts and craft in general wasn’t quite up her alley, let alone towels?? Even if it turned out that her soap and face mask were okay, this towel sounded like a bad idea. She liked the sound of bamboo, but it sounded like it would be hard to make into something as soft as a face towel… at least with her non-existent limited expertise. She decided instead on using beach grass. She could imagine it being softer naturally, but selfishly she just thought it sounded easier. Sorry Professor

She brought her little collection of beach grass over to a clear area and began to work. First of course, she needed to strip the fibers. Who needed to worry about the next step when she had this to keep her occupied? Maybe the bamboo would have been easier to break apart… She hoped it wasn’t, for her own sanity. Soon she had been at work for so long, that she felt she had mastered stripping the grass and wondered if it would be okay to risk a mix of items. She was intrigued and thought it would be worth it to try. Slightly hesitant, she grabbed a bit of bamboo and began to work on it. She couldn’t say if it was easier necessarily, but it would probably end up straining her fingers less at least!

She checked her notes, and practiced the incantation. “Intoqueo Corda,” she enunciated. There was no point in her trying nonverbal for this one. She had quite a mission ahead of her. The fibers started to weave, but they snagged a little bit. Taking a breath, she flourished her wand again.

“Intoqueo Corda!” The fibers wove once more into a bit of fabric, and Kye watched in slight wonder. She couldn’t believe it was working, the grass and bamboo starting to intertwine in a much more effective way. She had to repeat the spell a couple more times to get a complete towel, but finally it had finished weaving. She reached out for it, worried that it wouldn’t feel right, but to her surprise it was fairly soft. She probably could have stripped them a little better, but overall it was pretty good!

She could consider it an exfoliate? Relieved and hesitant that it was time to try her product, she cleaned up the area of the remaining plant bits and headed back to her dormitory.
