Colt heard the Professor's explanation and agghh he forgot that werewolves were different. He was considered more of an untamed animal than animagus if that made sense. Well it made sense to him. Alright moving on, so they were going to learn a spell that changed their skin? Cool. So he was going to become a merman of some sort? He could deal with that. What was that superhero called Aquaman? Yeah that was him. He saw the spell that was written on the board and he copied it down. Mutare Pellum. He liked the thought and look of it. Now he needed to practice it? Easy enough.

He muttered, "Mutare Pellum.....Mutare Pellum....Mutare Pellum....Mutare Pellum." He even did the wand movement with a swish. Swish...swish..swish. He saw others doing it and he nodded and went back to doodling for a bit before moving on.

”Mutare Pellem transforms the outer layer of your skin to become fur, feathers, or whatever you visualize it to be.” Visualization was the key here.

You will need to visualize how you want your skin to change, for example, to fur.” Felicity held up the arm coated in raccoon fur. ”Only the area of skin that you do the wand movement over will be affected. This is an advanced spell, so I do not expect all of you to be able to do this successfully today, especially the younger students. Do not be discouraged if it doesn’t work the first time.” The lesson would be ending soon, but there was still enough time for the students to try the spell.

Nodding at this she looked relieved, so she wasn't going to walk with a zebra skin after all! Not permanently anyway. But what did she wanted to change about herself? She didn't thought herself perfect but she was fine with her face the way it looked. Hmm... "No fur, that for sure" she muttered to herself while thinking what she wanted. Maybe just another color she decided and she pointed her want at her arm and spoke the spell out loud; "Mutare Pellem" but nothing happened. Looking irritated she tried it again and this time her wand did something but she only felt a slight tinkling feeling on her face. Bleh! Was she doing something wrong?

The Slytherin could hear Professor Riveroll going over the spell with several of the younger years. Some of them had come up with some pretty good questions honestly, Hady definitely had to give them props for that. All that was being said was quickly added onto her parchment containing her notes before her full attention was once more all about casting the charm.

It was easy. For her. Being a seventh year and having used this particular charm many times over the last couple of years had helped with that. So there was absolutely no stress or worry involved when she gave a wave of her wand over her left arm and spoke with clear intent and a firm vision in mind, "Mutare Pellem." Beautiful yellow and white albino patterned snake skin covered her arm just like her gorgeous snake back home. Hady marveled at it for several moments always in silent awe of it no matter how many times she had cast this charm.

Pointing her wand at her arm once more she cast a simple, "Reverto," to change her skin back to normal. Then once again a swish of her wand over her arm, "Mutare Pellem" was spoken clearly and lovely eagle feathers covered the area. As much fun as this was she knew the charm already and couldn't help but let her eyes wander around over some of those nearest her. "Does anyone need some assistance?" Now she wouldn't cast the charm for them but she could give out some helpful tips and guidance should they want it.

Tenacius is usually game for anything. But this lesson confused the bejeebers out of him. Animagi is fun and all (or at least thats what he takes from Hady) but this lesson is just confusing the bejeebers out of him. Also skin transformations are awesome, but when they're given a blow by blow account of how to Animagus, who would want to settle for just mere skin transformations eh?

Although when the Professor finally answered them pertinent questions, it made more sense to the Gryffindor Ace. Kinda. Well anyway, practice the wand action and the spell shall we?

"Mutare Pellem" swish swish. He repeated it a few times. Seems simple enough yeah?

Ok now the visualization part. Crucial apparently. What did he want to transform his skin into? He frowned and squinted and scrunched his lips in sequence... well heck, he'll just have to trust his Adler wand who seems to know more than what he can consciously think up of.....

"Mutare Pellem!" he swished over his arm. Wait for it.... wait for it....

Nothing.

Hmm..... one more try for luck?

"Mutare Pellem!"-- Oh! His skin started to ripple back and forth, then started to form elongated protrusions. Aaaaand thats pretty much the extent of his attempt, because as soon as he got excited and curious, his skin reverted back to the way it was.

Whoah.

Her eyes moved to the professor as she started answering the questions and her eyes probably went the size of snitches wile she talked. Fur... feathers? This better not last long. Her birthday outfit was not going to go well with furs or feathers. Brown eyes glancing at her arm once more she bit her lip not sure if she wanted to even try the spell.

She said the words over and over in her head and swished her wand. Finally looking back at her arm she pictures cat fur. Swishing her wand, "Mutare Pellem ......


Nothing


Well that was exciting. She was a sixth year, spells shouldn't be this hard still. Visualizing it again she swished her wand, "Mutare Pellem"

WHAT THE!!!! DUCK FEATHERS.... Her arm looked like she glued a mallard duck to it. NOPE this wasn't going to stay... nope, nope. "Hady... help"

Azura was practicing the spell when the Profrssor spoke again and told them what it actually did.. Ohhhhh.. so she can have whatever sort of animal hide or skin as long as she visualized it?

That was super fun!

Okay.. now what did she want to change her skin into...

She thought about Steve for a moment before she shook her head, tarantula hair wasn't a good look, and she didn't want black fur like her cat at home.. hmm.. Ahhh! Of course!

She closed her eyes and concentrated carefully on the spell, making sure to visualize clearly what she wanted to do!

"Mutare Pellem. " She said as she swished her wand over her arm and then opened her eyes..

Nothing..

*sighs*

Well she was going to try again!

Having fur would be quite nice, particularly during the colder months. Junia decided she'd try that out but first, practice.

"Mutare...mutare...mutare...pellem...pellem...pell em." Now to put them together. "Mutare pellem...mutare pellem...mutare pellem." That... sounded okay, didn't it? She paused to listen to her classmates, noting the way they were saying the incantation and gave a satisfied nod.

Now to actually make an attempt. The second year wasn't feeling very confident but she pushed on, not wanting to look like a baby around the older Slytherins. She envisioned a silky black fur coat as she looked down at her arm, imagining how soft it was going to be. Then with a swish of her wand, she uttered the words, "Mutare pellem."

"Man." No luck.

Leaf in your mouth for a month?

That and all that other jazz that the professor mentioned as part of the process to become an animangus made Cassie appreciate her father and his skill more as she turned to the mentioned page. She couldn’t even think of herself going through all that and she was a member of the house that was supposedly all into studying and dedication. Her father was a lion. The Ravenclaw would have to wait and see if she ever decided to give it a try in the future when she was older and more talented in her casting.

But for now, they weren’t doing stuff in the process, but a spell that changed a portion of your skin into an animal’s instead. Mutare Pellem. Cass copied the incantation and wand movement into her notes as well while trying to focus on how the professor had pronounced it so she could repeat it. “Mutare Pellem…mu-tar-e pel-lem… Mutare Pellem,” she practiced, saying it aloud as she worked on wrapping her tongue around the word. Was she getting it? The third year wasn’t quite sure of that. All the more reason to continue working on it.

“Mutare Pellem… Mutare Pellem… Mutare Pellem… Mutare Pellem…”

Her quick quotes quill took notes from the manuscript and from the chalkboard. Kitty (who was big into fashion) found this spell both fascinating and a little scary. The idea of growing feathers or fur sounded quite fun, but as long as it was temporal. Transfiguartion spells generally could be undone, but she'd read enough of those odd accidents in the papers where something went wrong and people had to be hospitalized at St. Mungo's. Yet Felicity was an impressive teacher and Kitty knew she wouldn't let anything happen to them.

"Mutare pellem." Okay. Pronunciation was good. She repeated it two more times just for practice. 'Mutare pellem, Mutare pellem..." During these last two utterances she did the simple swish that the professor had shown them.

Kitty raised her hand. "Professor, it is possible to do it over our heads? I think feathers mixed with my hair would be a wickedly brilliant look, don't you agree?"

And she began to visualize feathers...

All right, let's try this again.

Azura closed her eyes and tried to clearly visualize exactly what she wanted to happen to her arm. This almost felt like when they transfigured the animals into the inanimate object last term.

The day she had met Steve. Whom she had to keep at him due to Chris's fear of them.

She kept her eyes closed as she waved her wand again and said " Mutare Pellem. " She opened her eyes and gasped softly.

She had done it! Her arm was now covered with Russet Red Panda Fur!!

Eeeekkkk! It was so cute!

Olivia's eyes never left the professor as she maneuvered her wand, swishing and muttering the spell. And as easily as nothing, her arm transformed! The blonde could hardly believe how SIMPLE and straightforward she'd performed the spell. In fact, she was pretty much transfixed it, wishing SO HARD that she could also accomplish that.

......Visualize what exactly you want it to look like....

"Thanks, Professor." Just because... but in the next moment, Liv was lifting her wand, holding it poised, but not moving to actually cast yet. No, no.... It took TIME for her to visualize, considering the attention issues... but she was definitely on point. In the moment, unlike she usually was... Probably because this type of magic was brand new and exciting! Intriguing and different.

... And obviously, Olivia was going to be trying for a patch of snakeskin. Man, if she could get that mastered (not just the snakeskin, but any type of animal skin), imagine how creative she could get with the fashion show she had planned. It would be gloriously wonderful! Imaginative. Innovative. THE SKIES WOULD BE THE LIMIT! Though, she wasn't sure about the rules and witches and wizards performing magic on the house elves. That could very well be frowned upon... And then you'd get people clucking about house elf rights... Eh.

Picturing the skin of a diamondback python, because she couldn't really think of any other types of snakes right now... Liv gripped her wand extra hard, swishing with all her might! "Mutare pellem!"

The focus had been on her left hand, but it didn't matter. The spell wasn't working for her still.

A POINT? Merlin, she could ask more excellent questions, if that was what the professor rewarded. Katy grinned broadly and lowered her wand, not at all bothered that she'd nearly caught her own hair on fire. Didn't bother the professor, it didn't bother Katy.

So NOW she should finish practicing the incantation and try out the spell for REAL on herself. What would she like to do to her skin, should the spell work? It wouldn't do to go in without a plan, because a lack of plan was the best way to fail at casting a spell. Fur, then... with tiger stripes. Orange and black.

"Mutare Pellem. Mutare Pellem." Katy repeated the incantation to herself, feeling the sound of the words in her mouth. She didn't move her wand this time, although she practiced some good, solid INTENTION. Orange and black and furry and ferocious. She could definitely do this.

...do not expect you all to do this successful today...

Well, that was certainly a relief. Paige could survive with low expectations in this subject.

Muttering the spell to herself a few more times, her mind began to race thinking about which branch of transfiguration this particular spell belonged to - mostly in an attempt to narrow things down and reminding herself that among the branches this was one that she was at least moderately capable of accomplishing.

Breathe, Skeeter, just breathe.

Thinking about feather's, snowy owl ones to be precise, Paige repeated the incantation a few more times sans wand - once again procrastinating the actual execution of the spellwork...and she certainly was NOT looking around the classroom to see who was successful. It would only make matters worse.

After another long and shaky few inhales and exhales, Paige picked her wand up and held it above the back of her left hand. If she could just get it to work there and perhaps leave a trail along her fingers...maybe just the back of her hand...focus just on ONE spot and not get ahead of herself...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand another breath.

"Mutare pellem," she squeaked softly, waving her wand over her hand once she had a clear visual in place. To her delight, initially anyway, her skin began to tingle where the spell hit and the Hufflepuff actually allowed herself to be optimistic...a bit too prematurely. In another few moments, her skin was bubbling as though she had taken polyjuice potion - a poorly brewed one at that - and the tingling feeling was more like slamming her hand against a cactus. Silent horror drained her face of color.

Oh...dear...Merlin....

Juno practiced and practiced and practiced that incantation until she knew she would be saying it in her sleep later...which would probably really bother Esme, but what else was new! "Mutare pellem. Mutare pellem. Mutare pellem." She repeated one last time. Then she practiced the wand movement, making sure it was absolutely the correct swishing movement.

When she was ready, she thought long and hard about exactly what she wanted her skin to change to. If it worked for her, it was going to be the coolest thing ever...at least for her.

She practiced the wand movements and incantation a couple more times before she decided she was ready to try it. "Alright Juno, it's now or never." She said to herself.

Over her left arm, she said, "Mutare pellem," making the swishing movement with her wand, and the next thing she knew she had beautiful Phoenix feathers coming out of her arm. They were a lovely mixture of reds oranges and yellows. It was just miraculous! "WHOA! THIS IS SO COOL!" She yelled out!

She then repeated the same thing over her right arm, and it sprouted Phoenix feathers as well. She was absolutely beaming! It made her think of her fathers Phoenix, Serefina, which was where she got the inspiration. She would love to have a Phoenix of her own some day, but they were rare and very hard to find and tame.

Maybe she could pretend to be one for a while...

Given that they still had a bit of time left in the lesson, Liv figured it couldn't hurt to keep trying the spell. It wasn't like she had anything better to do at the moment. Well.... she could've doodled in her notebook, but that wasn't nearly as fun as actually performing magic. So, magic won here.

Maybe she just wasn't visualizing hard enough. Staring down at her hand, a crease appeared between her brows; a mark that she was really trying her absolute hardest to picture glistening, diamond scales inlaid over the soft membrane of her own skin. Pearlescent and mystical, almost...

Focusing: check. Now for this blasted wand motion...

Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish. "Mutare pellem." SHE WAS SO FOC-... Wa-..... Wait... WAIT! HAD IT WORKED?! Dropping her wand to the stone floor with a loud clattering noise, Olivia bent down over her hand, inspecting the milky whiteness of it closely. VERY closely, in fact. There was... very faint lines of... the beginning of scales. Like... Almost like they were watermarked onto her skin, but they were THERE. This could've been argued, of course, but Liv was ready to go down with this claim.

Whoops. Better... Ahem, quickly revert her skin back before there's permanent damage and such. Fake it until you make it, we always say... But wait, should she undo the previous spell before trying it again? Hmm? Would it cause a defect? Hmmm, well, then. Nevermind this blonde over here. She was just going to keep trying to make scales appear on her body.

Char watched the professor demonstrate, still brimming with questions. Well that was good, to see it in action, though Char was now curious if the feather and fur and all of that was growing and sprouting out of the effected top layer or if the top layer wasn't skin anymore, or if it would feel like you had exfoliated or been burned or something like that. After all, birds and raccoons and stuff did have skin underneath their feathers and fur and she was curious to know what was going on under the surface. Snakeskin she could understand how that would work and maybe be easier, but with fur and feathers... well there was more layers going on there, wasn't there? So was this a transformation or a conjuration? Or a combination of both?

............ and she giggled thinking about how you could probably use the spell to write something on someone's back in fur depending how the spell actually felt, right? Depending on what was happening underneath all that, because maybe they wouldn't even FEEL it. Not that she would ever do something so potentially mean, but it was interesting to think about.

Okay. She would give it a go. Seeing that Liv was doing snakeskin, Charlotte felt that was a smart choice because she could at least see it as skin to skin, and not have to worry about finicky things like fur or feather.

"Mutare Pellem!" She swished and concentrated....

...... and her arm stayed her arm. Welp.

Hadleigh had just changed her own arm back to normal once more when she heard someone calling her name. Sure she might've expected one of the younger snakes or really any house to be calling her name but that isn't who it was. The voice alone made the teen smirk and her hazel eyes shifted in the direction of where it was coming from. Nat. "Nice duck feathers you're sporting there girl," she joked lightly laughing softly. She had effectively transformed her skin into that of duck feathers. Just as the charm had intended. Sooooo what exactly was the problem?

The only thing coming to mind was getting rid of the feathers. Or that it wasn't what she had wanted to happen maybe. Either way the feathers would have to go before Nat could try again. "Aim your wand at your arm again and cast Reverto. That will change you back. Remember to be focused and speak with clear intent." Otherwise it might not work. If need be she could do it for her but it was best if her friend gave it a try herself first. Either way she was watching her. "Give it a try, you can do it."

"Mutare pellem." There. She obviously had the incantation down. Next up, Hadley snatched up Kira, her wand, and practiced the swishing motion a few times until she was sure she had it down. Now to put them together.

Hadley closed her eyes, breath slow, and took a long moment to block out the din of the classroom. The roar of her classmates practicing and performing the spell faded to a dim murmer. Visualizing was key. It was always key, and over the last two years Hadley had grown quite adept at the visualization part. And this was a tricky spell so she needed to be sure she was in the zone first. It was only then that Hads visualized a lioness, focusing mainly on the big cat's forelimb. The way the muscles rippled beneath the fur as she walked. Hads shifted her focus to the fur itself, building up in her mind how it looked. Then she imagined that same fur, the fur of a lioness, on her own arm.

Once the visual was set in her mind, she opened her eyes and looked down at her left arm; her non-dominate arm. "Mutare pellem!" Swish.

Goosebumps covered her arm, as if the fur was trying to escape, but couldn't quite make it. It was a hard spell, and this was actually better than Hadley had hoped for her first attempt. "Mutare pellem!" Swish. Just like before, goosebumps spread the length of her arm. Hads concentrated on the visual even harder and tried again. "Mutare pellem!" Swish. Was...Was that the tips of golden fur peeking out of the goosebumps?

Closing her eyes again, Hadley took a deep breath focused so hard on the visual of her arm covered in golden fur that when she opened her eyes again she could practically see it. "Mutare pellem!" Swish. An uncomfortable itching spead through her arm as golden hairs popped out of skin, thick and coarse, covering every inch of bare skin.

"I did it, Professor!" See, she told Professor Riveroll she was good at transfig.

After the slytherin felt comfortable with the spell and wand movement, he was picturing what animal skin he wanted to change into. He thought about doing a mermaid but then he thought of another idea. What about a snake's skin? Kind of the same thing right? It would be cool to have snake's skin. He tried to picture it and thought of the scales. He thought of the brown and black color scheme for snakes. He even drew it to be a little helpful. He sketched and then saw everyone else practice the spell. Some were succeeding and others failing. He shrugged and wondered if he would fail or pass.

He got his wand and concentrated and on what he needed to do. He tuned out all the noise and thought why not say the spell some more. "Mutare pellem....Mutare pellem...Mutare pellem....Mutare pellem..." He did a swish and that was easy. He tried for the first time.

He said the incantation, "MU-TARE PEL-LEM.." and nothing happened. Maybe he pronounced to harshly. He hoped he said it right? He said again, "Mutare pellem." and with a swish he felt something. He felt goosebumps but nothing changed. Ah well. He probably needed to practice it more.

"This was not what I wanted. I wanted cat fur." UGH... UGH... UGH why did it end up being a duck. "Some birthday" The day stunk and it was just getting worse. Was this a huge sign? She shouldn't be associated with Nat Kat anymore. It wasn't her, so she couldn't even turn her own skin into a cat.

Pointing her wand she tried to focus, but focus wasn't something going well at the moment. Taking a deep breath, "Reverto" Skin turning normal she sighed with relief. "Oh thank Merlin could you have seen me with duck feathers with my outfit tonight?" The band was doing a celebration later.


She looked at her arm again. "Maybe I shouldn't try cat fur." That seemed like her bad luck. So maybe she'd think about something else. Horse fur... Yes she would try that. She really tried to think about the fur of a horse, "Mutare pellem" Soon the fur of a horse showed up on her arm.

Katerina was pretty sure that she was all set with this. The only thing she had to do as give it a go and see if she could perform it. As the professor had stated she might not get it right away.

First Kat was going to figure out what animal skin she wanted. Maybe a lizard skin like Cornelius's lizard, mustard? or a frog, Ew no, no frogs. Cat. oh hehehe yes, Kat needed cat fur. That would be wonderful. Kat is cat. Long white fur just like her cat storm.

Yeah so she was going concentrate on that, long while fur. She thought about it for a few minutes before grabbing her wand of the desk. Maybe she should test out a small patch of her own skin then work her way to a larger patch. Swishing her wand and saying the incantation, "Mutare Pellem!'

Waiting and watching. Nothing it was just her same pale skin. Yep getting it on her first try was not happening. Maybe she should give the lizard skin a try.

Enough with the practicing and on with the practical! Katy wiggled her wand in the air over her arm with excitement. It was hard to focus on the intention thing, since she already envisioning how boss her arm would look with tiger fur.

Right. Focusing. Katy's nose scrunched and her thumb went to pinch her bottom lip as she pictured her arm all... hairy. Orange and black. Stripey! "Mutare Pellem!" Did it work? Was she tigered? Her arm did look the slightest bit hairier, although that might just be her imagination. Again?

"Mutare Pellem!"

Intention was apparently key to this spell, but Sam was having trouble visualising exactly what she wanted. See, she hadn't spent much time around furry beings other than her rat, Ollie, and she was pretty sure she didn't want that for her arm. Otherwise she could think of the winged horses they'd petted in CoMC, but she wasn't sure quite what threstral skin might look like, and the other horse's fur was pretty coarse to the touch.

What else could she do?

She rested her head on her hands and thought about it. And then it came to her. If there was one thing there was a lot of around the Ravenclaw common room, it was cats. And to keep things simple, she could go for a plain black one.

With that decided, she practiced the incantation a few more times. "Mu-ta-re Pell-um. Mu-ta-re Pell-um."

Harriet had spent the last couple of minutes watching everyone else. She was young, and she knew she wouldn't be able to do the spell first time, so she had wanted to watch other people do it. She wanted as Juno got phoenix feathers on her arm. "That is so cool!" She murmured as she looked at her fellow puff. It was pretty, and she made a mental note to do some painting relating to the phoenix. She was often inspired by the things that she saw around her, so this lesson was really inspiring to her.

But now she needed to practice her own spell. She decided to try on her arm, and try to get it to look like a zebra. That would be cool. Black and white stripes. She had a feeling it would't happen, but she was going to try at least. The girl sighed, practicing the wand movement over her arm, so that she knew she was doing it right. She spent a few minutes doing that.

And then she decided to match it with the words. Smiling, she waved her wand over her arms whilst saying "Mutare pellem" And then she kept practicing.
