Well, that was certainly a relief. Paige could survive with low expectations in this subject.
Muttering the spell to herself a few more times, her mind began to race thinking about which branch of transfiguration this particular spell belonged to - mostly in an attempt to narrow things down and reminding herself that among the branches this was one that she was at least moderately capable of accomplishing.
Breathe, Skeeter, just breathe.
Thinking about feather's, snowy owl ones to be precise, Paige repeated the incantation a few more times sans wand - once again procrastinating the actual execution of the spellwork...and she certainly was NOT looking around the classroom to see who was successful. It would only make matters worse.
After another long and shaky few inhales and exhales, Paige picked her wand up and held it above the back of her left hand. If she could just get it to work there and perhaps leave a trail along her fingers...maybe just the back of her hand...focus just on ONE spot and not get ahead of herself...
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand another breath.
"Mutare pellem," she squeaked softly, waving her wand over her hand once she had a clear visual in place. To her delight, initially anyway, her skin began to tingle where the spell hit and the Hufflepuff actually allowed herself to be optimistic...a bit too prematurely. In another few moments, her skin was bubbling as though she had taken polyjuice potion - a poorly brewed one at that - and the tingling feeling was more like slamming her hand against a cactus. Silent horror drained her face of color.
Oh...dear...Merlin.... Quote:

Not to mention draw attention to herself and her, um, situation. Oh...dear...Merlin....
Wand out and in preparation to reverse the spell before it got TOO far, Paige ended up dropping her wand when she saw the bubbles elongate and drip down through the gaps between her fingers and over either side of the back of her hand towards the floor like melted plastic. THOSE WERE NOT FEATHERS EITHER! Or perhaps she needed to readminister the spell and this was an in-between stage? "Mutare Pellem," she mumbled, a bit unconvincingly AND against her better judgement.
Nope. NOPE. Definitely NOT.
In fact she was only speeding up the process now, her skin stretching and elongating off the back of her hand like maple syrup dripping over the edge of pancakes.
"Oh oh oh oh oh," she muttered to herself as she threw herself to her knees and scrambled towards her wand that had rolled a little bit away from her across the classroom floor. The silver lining of this was that her drippy skin was NOT painful.
At least not yet.
Where was her bloody wand!? Quote:

She was not going to give up though, that was one that she wouldn't do. Lots of others wasn't getting it, she was not going to sweat it. Again, she swished her wand, maybe she was swishing too much or maybe it wasn't enough, Swish swish
Thinking about storms white long fur again, she swished her wand over a small area of her arm and said, "Mutare Pellem" Annnnd Nothing..... nothing,..... wait, there was three strands of long white cat fur on her arm.
Ugh... she still was not satisfied with it . She raised her hand. "Professor are scales or simpler to transform than fur, or does the texture make it harder to transform?" She was just curious maybe she bit off more than she could chew with the cat fur. No Cat!Kat, Maybe Lizard!Kat. Quote:

The first time? Nothing. The second time, a single scale where the tuft of hair that had once sat on his finger was.
The third? A full-out falcon claw. Sufficiently satisfied with himself, he revertoed it and started thinking on what would be a safe thing to attempt. Something that wouldn't accidentally cause death. But that was when he heard Paige.
And the thing was that while Brian had always been a little better at Transfiguration than he had at Charms - likely because he held it with much higher regard than the other significantly more frivolous subject - he knew that his best friend certainly was not. And that she did actually struggle. And that - well. Uh. He should probably check on her and make sure she didn't accidentally vanish her entire arm and -
Wait, WHAT?
Jumping over desks from his customary seat at the back of the class, Brian's wand was out and casting revertos at Paige Skeeter's hand like a mantra. A prayer. Because this skin-dripping-like-wax thing was definitely not a good thing. And something he should probably take down to the Healer or something. "PROFESSOR. SOMETHING'S WRONG."
And no, that wasn't a question. Or very polite. But hey, it was his best friend and Hufflepuff loyalty was kicking in with full swing. Quote:

As if the seventh year wasn't panicked enough at her own attention being drawn to her self inflicted disaster, but then Brian had to go and SHOUT like that. Now half, if not all, of the bloody classroom probably had their attention drawn towards her.
"B R I I I I I I I I I I A N," she hissed, finally retrieving her wand and watching his spells hit her hand. It was helping a little, but her stupidity at double casting the spell of the day made his attempts at rectifying the situation a bit in vain.
Casting a few Revertos herself, a few of the long tendrils sucking themselves back into the Hufflepuff's hand and leaving a small lump whence it came - lump...something resembling a blister or a boil...one of those. Either way, the duel efforts of the Hufflepuffs were not yielding the desired results. Not entirely at least. Rather than melted skin from the back of her hand hanging down to the floor now it was more dangling a few inches off the sides. Quote:

"During my training I used many spells such as this one and some potions to transform into different creatures. It was just a way of getting a feel for being something other then human. When the true transformation came no I didn't, what you become is generally personality based." Therefore you never fully truly know what you will become until that moment of transformation. "Although if you can cast a fully formed patronus then that might just be a hint for you." In most cases the two were the same. Nat's next question might have been directed towards their professor but Hady knew this one without a shadow of a doubt. "Yes. If you change into a bird or something with wings and would generally fly then yes, yes you can fly too." Fact. Frankie could fly when in his animal form. It was seriously the coolest thing but she wasn't able to. Her form did not fly. She was in love with what she was though so it was all good. Hady smiled looking at the fish scales that covered her arm before casting another "Reverto" changing her arm back to normal. Her attention was then pulled onto her fellow snake once more when another question was asked. "That's a hard question to answer. It varies honestly from person to person...if something goes wrong during the process you could have to start all over again. Some steps take months or even years to complete depending on what nature has in store." Waiting for that electrical storm had been the worst part besides the actual physical change itself. "The process for me was around two and a half years...I think we just got really really lucky with it all," Hady answered quietly in reply. Their timing had been good and neither of them had messed up where they needed to begin again. This also wasn't including all their previous studying about the subject before having gone to professor York and then Ichihara.
The brunette was just about to give her wand another swish to try the spell again when her eyes caught sight of a fellow Prefect leaping over desks?! What in the world was going on? Reverto was being cast over and over and a shout for their professor filled her ears. Hadleigh rose to her feet in an attempt to see the situation better only to see Paige's arm. Oh my....well this wasn't right at all. Not sure what to do to help with that besides canceling the spell which was already taking place she raised a hand and asked, "Professor shall I go get the Healer?" It was the least she could do. Or she would gladly walk Paige to the Healer if Brian or someone else didn’t.
Oh dear Merlin. Something was happening to Paige Skeeter. The look of horror on the girl’s face and the Hufflepuff prefect shouting about there being a problem drew Felicity’s attention to the situation. Felicity quickly made her way over to Paige. ”Paige, are you alright? What happened?” Oooooh, that looked awful. The Head Girl was offering to get the healer. ”Thank you, Hadleigh, but I think I’d better escort Paige to the healer myself for this one.”
Felicity turned to the rest of the class. ”CLASS DISMISSED!” She looked back at Paige. ”Paige dear, come with me. We’re going to go see the healer. Hadleigh and Brian may come with us if you’d like them to.” Sometimes it was good to have someone there for reassurance. OOC: Hospital Wing people can post here.
