[LESSON] Astronomy One The crisp November evening air may cause a bit of a chill as you step inside the Astronomy classroom, but even a ghost such as Marion Burbage has made the proper arrangements to ensure that conditions are not too uncomfortable for the living. Desks remain in the usual semi circle formation that returning students have become accustomed to, and besides the festive streamers strung about the classroom and single colorful balloons tied to the backs of each chair. The ghost herself is floating in the front of the with a pleased-as-peach smile on her face as she waits for her wide-eyed and bushy tailed students to enter, the framed photo of a gentleman displayed proudly on the professor's desk. { index of class progressionOOC: class will not officially begin for a while still (at least 12 hours). Your characters can chat among themselves but please try to keep conversation to a minimum, dears.[1] WHO is this STUDMUFFIN and what do you know about him? |
Jasper was early, he peeked inside of the Astronomy classroom. He usually seemed to be one of the last to arrive, so it was a somewhat pleasant surprise. Except for the fact that that meant he was literally all alone with the professor. Still the third year slowly allowed his feet to carry him inside the classroom, a soft shiver running down his spine. Was it colder in here than it was outside? He honestly wasn't sure. But the streamers definitely seemed to be quite a nice touch, it seemed that their professor was quite excited for the class too. "Evening Professor," Jasper greeted as his green eyes caught side of the smiling ghost who was watching at the front of the classroom. It was a bit weird that their professor was a ghost... but then again they were surrounded by ghosts all the time. Shrugging off any questions with that simple logic, the Ravenclaw quickly sat himself down at a desk and pulled out what he thought he might need for the lesson. Now to wait and see who would walk in next... |
He had just eaten, and it was nearing winter, plus there wasnt that much effort getting from his dorms at the Gryffindor tower to here, so Tenacius was pretty chill when he walked into the room. "Hey there Professor Burbage!" the Curly Top greeted the lady spectre he once marvelously mistook as the Ravenclaw house ghost. His hand swiped the air where a table and a lint roller used to be..... ..... of course it wouldnt be there. Alas old habits die hard eh? So he makes his way to where he usually sat, but his gaze is taken by the festive decor "What are we celebrating Professah?" |
Kimi had made his way up to the astronomy tower for the first lesson in astronomy and said "Evening Professor" Kimi took a seat in one of the free desks and waited for the lesson to begin |
Why. Why was it so damn cold in here? The cold was literally the BANE of Mason's existence, and she was honestly not prepareed for this nonsense. Scowling slightly at the ghost responsible for said-nonsense, Mason tilted her blue-dyed head towards Professor Burbage, who still bore too eerily of a resemblance to Mason's grandmother. "Professor." She said curtly, letting her eyes wander to the Hobbit-looking man that stared back at her from some old portrait. Rolling her eyes, Mason made her way towards the semi-circulie-desks, claiming one of the *SSSSIIIGGGHHHHH* |
After a couple months of Astronomy this term, Henry finally had it in his mind well enough that the classroom was going to be cold that he remembered to wear a cloak over his robes. He still thought it a little strange to be taught by a ghost and to call her professor, even if he thought her awfully nice, and he still didn't care much for the subject, after more than three years of it. He could always appreciate Professor Flamsteed's attempts at making it more fun and interesting, but it just wasn't for the fourth year. Astronomy was just too boring, even if he did like movies set in outer space. And so far this year it hadn't been much better. What he also didn't appreciate were evening classes. Henry actually liked having his classes early and out of the way so that he could have the rest of the day free for what he wanted to do. But despite the slight negativity he had for the subject, the fourteen year old put on a cheerful face as he sprinted up to the top of the Astronomy tower. His smile grew a bit wider as he entered, his eyes falling on the decorations. "Evening, Professor Burbage! Are we having a party?" He didn't know what it would be for exactly, but he'd be all for a party lesson, like what they had in Herbology last week with the games and all. Yeah, that'd be a good time. Turning to look at the semicircle rows of desks, he took a seat next to Tenacius. "Hey, Ace! How's it going?" he grinned at the other boy as he pulled out his class materials. Classes were always more fun sitting next to a friend. |
To be honest, Jace found it weird not to pick up the lint roller and clean himself before entering the Astronomy classroom. However, it was not an excuse for him to arrive in class with crinkled robes and uncombed hair. The thirteen year old showed himself inside the room, and immediately inclined his head towards the professor. "Konbanwa, Professor." Seeing that he was early for class, the Ravenclaw took the opportunity to snag a desk right beside...Jasper Quinn. The raven-haired boy didn't mean to sit by him, but was rather drawn to his fellow third year. It's been a while since he last saw him properly in class. "Hello." he said inclining his head too towards Azura's friend, and busied himself with preparing his book and parchment for class. "It's...been a while." with a grin, Jace wondered if Azura is aware of Jasper's presence? Or is she currently distracted with Chris? Glancing up the front, Jace noticed the portrait that was beside the professor, and he immediately wrote down the astronomer's name in Japanese characters. He didn't want to share his answer just yet. . . . ...Unless Takeru-san sits by and goes to peek at his notes... |
Blaise had long since stopped showing up to his Astronomy classes with a sullen look on his face. It now being November, there was a silent sort of acceptance that Airey was gone and no amount of sulking would bring him back. These days, the boy sported a more stoic expression when he ventured inside. It took him some time, but he no longer glanced to where the lint roller used to be and he no longer felt unsettled by the idea of sitting in this room without de-linting. The Gryffindor was basically on auto-pilot as far as this subject was concerned. He'd considered skipping it but there were already too many gaps in his education. Quite frankly, he couldn't afford to--unless circumstances called for it and even then, he'd have to think it through. "Hello Professor Burbage." His tone was an impassive one as he took his usual seat. Funny how the only thing that remained of the man he'd admired so much was the seating arrangements. A glance was given at the portrait and indeed the balloons, but he didn't much feel like asking. |
Charlotte was skipping when she came into class. Excited to be there because Astronomy was ALWAYS good. It was one of the classes that she found relatively easy when she could bring herself to pay attention and didn't get too distracted, because she'd been learning stuff for a longlonglong time because her very Ravenclaw parents had always been super into it. Tracking constellations had even been one of the ways they had got to know each other when THEY were at school. Sooooo it was a thing, kind of! She was excited to see if what they were doing today would be exciting or if it would be bor--oooooh! The portrait caught her eye. "Its the parallax guy!" She knew some stuff about this! Maybe they'd get to play with cool stuff today then! EXCITING! Oh and, "Hi professor!" Char added cheerfully. |
Azura walked into the classroom and looked around. Everything looked so festive! A smile came to her face as she saw the baloons and she turned to look at the front to see a picture of a man. She wasn't exactly sure who it was.. but she took a note of it all the same. She smiled warmly at the ghost up in the front. "Hello Professor. " She said with a wave as she looked around the room and spotted Jace and Jasper. The purple eyed girl made her way towards them with a smile. "Hey you two. " She said as she settled down in a seat next to Jasper.. Two of her three best friends were in the room.. and sitting next to each other.. Azura had a sudden flashback to first year.. Trying to figure out her feelings For Jazzy and then Jace.. and ugh.. Older and wiser now yeah? |
Quote:
Was he trying to tell her something? Probably. Jace fought the urge to nudge Jasper, instead, his eyes traveled from the only girl in the group to the boy who recently went MIA. Keeping the grin on his face, Jace went back to reading his book and braced himself for the awkward stuff. At least things have been cleared up for both Azura and Jace. Thank Merlin. |
To be honest Olly still missed Flamsteed. Astronomy just wan't the same without him. Even though having a ghost for a teacher was pretty cool, she couldn't replace Flamsteed. Still, Olly gave her a cheerful smile and greeted her as he entered the room. "Hello." Why did she have a picture of that old man on her desk? Olly had know idea who that was but he didn't really care. He promptly forgot about the strange man's picture the second he turned away. He was too distracted by the decorations in the room. Streamers and balloons? It looked like a party. Specifically, it looked like a birthday party. Was it someone's birthday. He glanced back at the professor. "Is it your birthday?" Did ghosts even celebrate birthdays? It seemed like it might be a bit of a sore subject. |
Charlotte and Azura Prepared for an evening in the astronomy tower, especially for late fall, Cassie was dressed a little warmer than earlier in the day. The better to deal with the chill as she made her way up all the stairs to the proper classroom in time for the lesson. It really was a long way but she supposed she was used to it with having to travel back and forth up to the Ravenclaw tower every day. And it wasn’t like a ghost was going to mind being so far up and having to ‘walk’ all the stairs. The sight she was greeted with at the top when he finally reached it was certainly festive, with streamers and balloons. “Good evening, Professor,” she greeted the spectral woman with a polite smile. From then she moved to take a seat amongst those already gathered. “Hey guys,” she greeted Charlotte and Azura both. |
A ghost as a professor, how cool was that! She REALLY needed to tell her parents about this! But... Was the ghost doing this because she wanted this or because she was paid to do so and if so, then what was a ghost doing with money? Shaking her head she entered the classroom while shivering slightly. She hated the cold so she hoped that the temperature would be better inside. "Hello professor" greeted Leesha while looking at the professor, a question burning on her lips but not sure if she would offend the professor by asking her why she was teaching while being, well... dead? Taking a seat she opened her textbook and just stared at the professor, not quite understanding how it was working, did everybody who died return like a ghost or just a few of them? Her eye fell on the picture of a old man on the desk from the professor and her frown deepened. |
Sam had still been eating a roll from dinner as she climbed the stairs to the astronomy tower, so she paused a few moments outside the door to finish it. She brushed her hands on her robes to sort out the crumbs, glad that the lint roller was no longer a thing, and entered the classroom with a grin. The chill in the air didn't really discomfort the Ravenclaw, having slept outside in far worse, but she'd still wrapped a House scarf tightly round her neck. "Hi Professor Burbage!" she greeted with a smile as she headed to a desk near the edge of the arc. She missed Flamsteed, but she had a good feeling about today's lesson. She loved sitting and looking at the stars, had done since she was a kid, and the third year felt like she was finally getting a scholarly feel for them too. Hmm, who was the guy in the picture? |
SPOILER!!: Jace and Azura Jasper was grateful for the familiar face, a grin crossing his face when he recognised that it was in fact Jace sitting beside him. "Hey," he answered, wondering what to say but he nodded at Jace's comment about it being a long time. "It's only been a year?" he commented innocently, though that in itself made it a long time. "How have you been Jace?" he continued, not sure whether he had actually ever had a proper conversation with the boy in memory. He was certain the two of them were both super quiet, especially in first year. Maybe his memory was just terrible though. Azura was the next who appeared, taking the seat to Jasper's other side. Mentally Jasper said a thank you to the girl who ensured that he wouldn't have to go through meeting someone new right now. While he was currently dealing alright with the awkwardness of finding his old friends... he didn't want to go through meeting other people too. That could wait a few more weeks. After he'd settled back into Hogwarts. "Hey 'Zura" Jasper responded, the grin on his face. As he glanced back at Jace he was fairly certain that the boy to his other side also was smiling at them weirdly.... but he'd only glimpsed the expression for a second so he wasn't sure. Giving Jace a confused look, he shrugged before turning his attention back to the purple-eyed girl in the group. |
Kitty pulled her school robes tightly around her as she stepped into the Astronomy classroom. A red scarf was wrapped around her neck, overkill perhaps, but she was just recovering from a cold and was taking all precautions. "Greetings Professor Burbage," the prefect said respectfully as she moved to an empty seat. "How are you this day and who is that dashing gentleman with the green hair?" Maybe it wasn't green but that's what it looked like to her. |
The best thing about Astronomy wasn't that it was in the highest tower, or that the professor was a ghost, or that the subject matter was already pretty interesting. Nope... the best part was that they got to stay up LATE to go to class. It was enough that Katy was a bouncy little third year as she climbed to the Astronomy Tower and zipped into a seat. Maybe it was late, but she wasn't remotely tired. She was awake awake AWAKE. "Good evening, Professor. You're looking particularly transparent and floaty tonight." How does one butter up a ghost, anyway? |
Juno quickly rushed into class. She was cutting it pretty close! but that was alright she was still on time. She walked past the Ghost professor, giving a small wave, "Hello, Professor Burbage!" She found her usual seat, wondering what the balloons where about. She quietly pulled out all the supplies she would need for class, including her textbook and waited patiently for class to begin. |
All this walking.... Olivia was NOT amused. And her legs weren't, either. Merlin's underpants, her KNEES were screaming in protest by the time she finally tumbled through the door, hair and clothing a bit disheveled. WHEW. Making this trip several times a week... had not gotten ANY easier. Also, their ghostie Professor: that was EASILY the coolest aspect of these Astronomy lessons. EASILY. Quote:
Waving towards the ghost!professor, Liv set about getting out books, a notebook, two glitter pens... Grunt, grunt. |
Evie pulled her robes tighter around her as she entered the astonomy classroom, it was always so cold. She really needed to remember to wear more clothes. She looked around as she entered, "Hello Professor" She saw the photo on the desk but was not familiar with the person in it. The brunette took a deep breath and found a seat towards the back and pulled her self tighter into her robes. Godric, I could use a heater. the second year thought to herself. |
Jace and Jasper, mentions of Cassie As Az settled down into her chair next to Jasper she looked over at Jace and one eyebrow rose as his look and his grin.. Oh.. what was that for.. Ohhhh... She smiled back at him and bit her lip a bit. She was just happy to have her best friend back.. well one of them at least. And hey look, two of them were sitting next to each other. She only hoped Jace wasn't referencing their talk on the fourth floor balcony from first year.. She looked up as she heard a female voice and she waved at Cassie. "Hello! " She said with a warm smile before she turned her attention back to her now present best friend. "Hey Jazzy. " Ugh did he know how good it was to see him? To tak to him? To have him sitting next to her in class? She smiled at him warmly.. so happy right now.. so so happy. |
SPOILER!!: Jazz and Az A year isn't a long time to be honest. Weren't they just first years a couple of terms ago? That doesn't seem too long either. "It's a long time for others." he said in a low tone so Azura won't overhear him. "But I'm glad you're back with us." he said sincerely and spared Azura a glance. "I've been doing well. I'd like to believe I'm accustomed to Hogwarts already, although I get the occasional bout of homesickness..." Japan was, after all, his home. "Do you need help in settling down? We can hang out some time if you want..." he said with a shrug. Jace wasn't too sure about it, knowing that he and Azura would rather make up for the lost time together. Azura's smile was returned with a chuckle. He'd been a first hand witness of her distress when Jasper went missing in action. Jace didn't understand it at first, but through persistent curiosity, he was able to make Azura talk and open up her feelings for the boy sitting right next to her. The raven-haired Raveclaw was now...all the more curious if Jasper liked her back? Jace spared them both a glance, and immediately went back to reading his book. Jasper came back to continue his study, and not cause any trouble for Azura right? However...that look she's giving the boy right now could send off the wrong signal to other people. The Ravenclaw sank lower in his seat and did his best to focus on the book he's reading. M e r l i n. |
*sits next to* ^________^ Having got in a bit of a dispute with one of the plants surrounding her bed - results of it being dissatisfied with the amount of water it had received that day - Paige scrambled to get to Astronomy in a timely manner and arrived in the classroom with her robes in a bit of a disarray and unkept short mousy brown hair. "Good evening, Professor Burbage," the Hufflepuff managed to squeak out despite being out of breath from the long haul up the stairs. Quote:
|
So Astronomy NOT exactly one of Katerina's strongest subjects but she still enjoyed it. Stars, Planets, solar systems, so on and so on. She made her way up to the astronomy tower. She walked in, still even in November looking for that darn lint roller, as much as she hated to admit it. She missed Professor live long and prosper, even if he didn't find it funny that she thought he had actually she live long and spout nose hair. SHE COULDN'T HELP IT! "Hello Professor Burbage." She trotted passed the |
^_______________^ yay! Quote:
Juno really couldn't wait for the lesson to start, it was one of her favorite subjects. Though she really, really missed Professor Flamsteed! He was such a great teacher. It wouldn't be the same without him. She clutched her pet rock, Firefly, in her pocket. |
Kaycee was mostly attending the lesson because HOW OFTEN DID YOU GET TAUGHT BY A GHOST?! It seemed to be a running theme with her last year of school. She just went to class for the stories. "Hello Professor." she greeted cheerily as she entered. She was pleasantly pleased that the temperature was actually completely tolerable. How'd a ghost pull that one off? She then helped herself into an empty seat. This was weird. She couldn't decide what part about it was the most weird though. A new professor. The fact that the professor was a ghost. The streamers. Or the fact that she wanted very badly to play with the balloon on her chair. |
SPOILER!!: Henry :D It was only then that he noticed a framed image of some fellow, still old, probably a husband or brother he could presume, because thats usually why people would frame pictures of other people right right? Made sense to him. And Char yelled out PARALLAX. Tenacius looked at the picture again and murmured "But he dont look nuthin like a Green Lantern.... or a Yellow Lantern". Comics in the brain man. Then again is Professor Burbage a GREEN LANTERN FAN?? Ohboyohboyohboy "Hey Henry!!" the Curly Top greeted the Hufflepuff cheerfully as the other boy took a seat beside him "Wzup man how you doin'?" Whats the word Puffaluff spill the beans. And Hady's |
Owen, with his signature side grin in place, climbed up to the Astronomy tower in fairly good spirits. Sure, he missed Professor Flamsteed and his fun lessons but the 4th year Hufflepuff believed that someone like Professor Burbage can step up to the plate. Ghost Professors always had something interesting up their sleeve. He's also heard that she was a returning professor from a few years ago and that her lessons were downright noteworthy. So he kind of had expectations. Bowing a bit as he entered, Owen greeted the lady Professor, "Good evening, maa'm." Hmm... Streamers? He glanced curiously at the woman again and the portrait on her desk (nope, face isn't ringing any bell), wondering what she had roasted up for them tonight, before sauntering over to his usual seat on the semicircle arrangement... Quote:
"Hi," Owen said as he took his seat. ... Parallax? Huh? |
hellooooooooo dears. Lesson officially begins here! Quote:

Lesson topic aside, of course. Ho ho ho. Quote:

tut tut tut tut tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut. Well, what had the young Slyterin's knickers in a twist? "It is ruuuuuuuuuuuuuude to roll your eyes in such a manner, Miss Stevens," the ghost sternly warned just s curtly. TUT! Quote:
Which she would be requiring some assistance with seeing as she was incapable of doing any sort of set up herself. Sigh. Quote:

One of the students she would be seeking out another time to do her a favor. MMMhMMMMMMMMMM. Quote:
"Are you quite alright, dear?" Marion asked the Gryffindor. "The moving staircases did not get the best of you, did they? No possessed flesh-eating plants wandering about the corridors trying to snatch up a darling little thing like yourself?" Just had to be absolutely sure. Miss Phillips' disheveled appearance was cause for concern. Quote:
Hmm...seemed as though her precautions were NOT nearly enough for most students as this Gryffindor was not the first to display a certain dislike for the temperature of the room. hmmmm....these matters were quite difficult to handle seeing as she was now incapable of performing any magic. Quote:
"Evening, Miss Skeeter," she cooed, looking the Hufflepuff up and down. "You ought to at least tuck in your shirt, dear." Pause. "Are Peeves and Miffy to blame for...all that?" Best to spread her inquiries around. Quote:

Deciding that it was well past time to begin, Marion floated a bit closer to the semi circle of desks. "Let us begin!" she chirped. "If someone would be so kind as to shut the door to the classroom I would be mooooooooooooooost appreciative." Such physical luxuries were no long an option for the woman. "I THOOOOOUGHT I had placed a proper request to the house elves to set the room up to be accommodating for your living bodies, but it appears as though as some of you dears are still feeling a bit of a chill. I will permit the use of bluebell flames in the classroom should you feel the need. Younger students, you are allowed to ask an older one for assistance if you wish and I proooooooooooooooomise to request better heating charms next lesson." It WAS difficult for her to gauge these things, dears. Forgive the ghost. "Now, I know many of you are curious about this evening's decorations. That explanation shall come in juuuuuuuuuust a moment. FIRST, I would like you all to turn your attention to this framed studmuffin," she continued, gesturing towards the portrait on her desk. "Miss Kettleburn has already given a bit of insight as to just WHO this gentleman is..." No name but a VERY important little bit of information nonetheless. "...but who can identify him by name? Hmmmm? Name and perhaps a little nugget of information as to why he is important to astronomy?" OOC: thank you for your patience, dears. We shall continue in about 24 hours from the time of this post. |
Jace slowly inclined his head and let out a quiet chuckle. Must she talk in such manner? Not that he hated it, but it was sort of endearing really. She looked daunting at first but that’s just her face. Professor Burbage seems to be a sweet woman. The Ravenclaw turned in his seat and gauged that he is too far away from the door, and convinced himself that it’s okay not to do the Professor’s request. His brown eyes landed on the seventh year Hufflepuff though. Turning his attention now up front, Jace politely raised his hand and answered the professor’s question. It wasn’t really hard given that Charlotte already mentioned the studmuffin’s discovery. But what in the stars is that word? “The...studmuffin’s name is Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel, professor.” He said slowly retracting his hand. Jace turned to face Charlotte and gave her a grin. Maybe she’d like to mention Mr. Studmuffin's discovery? Maybe she’d be able to explain the Parallax better too. Studmuffin though. He’d have to ask his friends about it. Maybe...maybe Jasper knows? He likes using short language anyway. |
Kimi had no idea who it was in the picture so he just decided to take notes down and answer anything that he felt he knew |
lol Char getting the door and offering bluebell flames Charlotte beamed around, partially in bemusement, at the people who had in some way or another responded to her blurting about the Parallax guy. The only reason she knew anything at all (selectively) was because her DAD's name was COPERNICUS and the apparent absence of the parallax thing was part of why people hadn't believed Copernicus about the solar system being heliocentric. Buuuut if anyone thought she had paid much attention beyond that, well, they were soooorely mistaken. And was SHE someone? Weren't they ALL someones? "I'll do it!" Char said cheerfully and skipped past Paige (who she still hadn't talked to about things but would!!) and over to the door, shutting it with a flourish. AND OHHHH they got to do bluebell flames! Immediately Charlotte was distracted from answering the question in favour of conjuring a little jar with the flames burning merrily inside. Yeah! "Anyone want one of these?" Because they were FUN to make. Erm... what had been the question again? |

The Curly Top gave the lady spectre a megawatt grin as he nodded his head. Yep he can think of maybe half a dozen things to celebrate right now, most of which isnt really related to Astronomy though. And first question's been fired out. He gave a second look at the man in the frame. He's old and that’s all he could figure out about it. Could he be Alan Scott, the first Green Lantern? Or maybe he could be one of the Guardians from Oa since you know PARALLAX!... Then again that guy didn’t look like he had blue skin…. "He's uh…..really REALLY knowledgeable about deep space things right Professor?" Also bluebell flames! Toss one this way Char! |
Quote:
And it looked so PRETTY too! And she wasn't going to TOSS one at Ace, but she happily provided him with another one, recognizing her housemate's interest for what it was. There ya go, Tenacius! Bluebell flames for all! |
Kimi smiled at the Gryffindor as she placed the jar on his table that was a lot better meant he wasn't going to suffer with the cold anymore |
Harriet rubbed her hands together. It really was cold in here. But that wasn't the Professor's fault. She was a ghost, and so probably couldn't feel the temperature. So how was she supposed to know how cold it was. But they could have bluebell flames! At least it was good then. They could stay warm. Though Hattie didn't really know that charm yet. But she smiled when she saw that Charlotte was offering to do them. How kind of her. "Can I have one please Charlotte?" Because why not? The girl was offering. Now back to the Professor's question. Hattie actually had no clue who the guy was. Not at all. But she could try to guess what he had done in Astronomy. A guess was better than nothing after all. Raising her hand she smiled. "I don't know who he is..." Honesty is the best policy right? "But did he like name a star... or come up with some important Theory?" |
Azura looked over at Jace as she saw his look.. Hey now other best friend.. she was just happy to see Jasper back.. that was all! So none of that knowing glance. That conversation had happened three years ago.. so there. She looked at up at the Professor as she started to speak and she was about to get the door, but Charlotte has already beaten her too it. All right. She conjured some bluebell flames for herself and Jazz and Jace, before looking up at the picture. She didn't recognize him by his face, but his name rang a bell. Her hand went into the air as she spoke. "He invented a way to measure the distance from the sun to other stars Professor, by way of Parallax. " She knew that much. That was about it. |
The Astronomy classroom wasn't THAT cold compared to the Slytherin Common Room so Sky really just found herself quite comfortable today. And Professor Burbage seemed kind enough; if memory served Sky right the woman had taught at Hogwarts before her untimely death, which she read about when reading Hogwarts, A History. Some things she knew but one of those things unknown was regarding the portrait on the desk up front. She did have to roll her eyes at the suggestion that he had something to do with space. Honestly, that answer was sooooo elementary. Bessel. Friedrich Bessel. One older boy in Ravenclaw - of course - suggested. Why did that name sound familiar? Oh duh!! Raising her hand, Sky spoke up rather quietly, "Aren't there some mathematical function named after him cause he like generalized some function?" she was pretty sure that was where she recalled it from; though didn't know much beyond that because the equation seemed incredibly complicated .... |
Oh, it wasn't her birthday. It did not appear to be anybody's birthday. The reason for those balloons had not yet been explained and honestly that's all Olly was thinking about at the moment. He did looked at the picture when the professor mentioned it. Several people seemed to know who it was but Olly had no idea. Why had she called him a studmuffin? He really wasn't that cute. He tried to listen to the answers from the other students but he was hearing that he had something to do with math and that sounded really boring. Oh no was this lesson going to be boring? Why would there be balloons at a boring lesson? |
Tilting his head to the side he looked curiously at their ghost professor. Why was she speaking like that? Who knew? And who was the person in the portrait on her desk? Jasper definitely didn't know. He almost burst into laughter when Jace had used the term stud muffin. Not that it was his fault, considering he was copying the professor and probably didn't have a clue what it meant. Instead he tried to refocus, quickly writing down the name that Jace mentioned on his parchment. Jace studied a lot, so Jasper had no doubts that he knew what he was talking about. Char offering bluebell flames to everyone caught his attention, and he almost put his hand up, mainly because he didn't want to cast the spell himself. If she was so excited to do it, why not let her? But before he could Azura had already conjured up the flames for all three of them. He gave her a thankful smile, finally able to feel his fingers again. As an Australian, the cold did NOT agree with him. Ironic considering he lived in year long winters. Trusting Azura's answer as well, he quickly jotted 'Parallax' underneath the name, waiting for the professor to explain the term properly. He was going to need notes for this considering he currently seemed behind when it came to this subject. |
SPOILER!!: Ghostie!Professor! Getting herself in order a bit, which was a slow process given that her pain was real, the blonde nodded towards their ghostly!professor. "Growing pains, Professor Burbage. All these stairs and the walking... My potion isn't working that great." That was it, simply put. Growing up was fun, but the phenomenon of actually getting bigger... Well, it wasn't as glorious as everyone made it out to be. She'd clearly been bamboozled. DECEIVED! SWINDLED! :whaa: As for the temperature, Olivia was already bothered... So, adding to her foul mood wasn't that big a deal at this point. There was simply no way to improve it right now, anyway. Nope, she'd need a warm blanket, fluffy pillow, and her weight in candy... None of which were attainable until after the lesson. And it was terrible, but because her mood was awful, she did NOT want to ask Char for her bluebell flames. Go ahead with your transfiguration magic. NBD. . . Ack! Professor shouting... ... And naturally, Olivia had no idea as to who the man was in the portrait. Without her classmates jumping in to provide answers, her first thought had been that this might've been the late Professor's....late husband. Perhaps it was his birthday and she was enlisting the class to help celebrate. Listen, the Hogwarts ghosts were an eccentric bunch, and weirder things did happen here at Hogwarts. So, was it really that far-fetched? Thanks to her brilliant peers, however, Liv simply resolved to note-taking. |
WHO was he? Well, now, how in the world was Katy meant to recognize someone when they hadn't been assigned reading ahead of time? She knew lots of people, but not... this one. He looked a bit like a personified hedgehog, sort of cuddly and not at all of the studmuffin genre. "Is that your boyfriend, Professor? He looks like he'd be loads of fun. Is he a ghost now too?" Only, was it rude to point out the ghostiness of a person. |
His class materials sitting atop his desk, yet still unopened, Henry turned to Tenacius before class officially began. "Doing great, can't complain," he grinned. "How about you?" He wondered how the other boy was at the subject. Maybe he could glance at his notes. But before he could ask, he spotted another of his friends slipping into the seat on the other side of him. "Hi, Katerina," he smiled. "Of course I don't mind.. sit down." That would make enduring Astronomy even better, sitting with a couple of his friends. So there was no party today, but it did make the Hufflepuff wonder what the decorations were for. It sure looked like there was gonna be a party. And then it was time for class to start. Henry focused his eyes on the ghost first and then to the framed picture. He had no clue who the studmuffin was or what parallax was... had it been something they had covered in class before? Must've slipped his mind. Bluebell flames were a great idea, actually. He knew how to conjure them himself, but he did give Char a smile as she was offering them to some of the other students. That was really kind of her. He conjured some for his own desk, then set about taking some notes on what his classmates were saying. Sorry, professor... he didn't have anything to add just yet. |
Oh boy, she had permission to make fire IN THE CLASSROOM! Oh, and the professor said that the first years COULD ask for help, not that they needed to do so. Ha, she wanted to perform the spell herself and she knew that she could do it, she had practiced this spell before, in secret of course because she didn’t wanted others to be scared that she would burn something. So she flicked with her wand and created a nice warm bluebell flame. She wanted it to be bigger and more spectacular but she was afraid that it wouldn’t be allowed in the class and she didn’t wanted to risk it that she needed to end the spell… But the question the professor asked… She blinked a few times with her eyes and frowned, where they really going to talk about a old man who probably already had died years ago? BORING!!!! |
Uh. Yeah, even though they'd had Burbage filling in all semester, it really wasn't the same and Brian was still a little shell-shocked. He didn't really deal well with change, ask anyone. Especially not change of the abrupt variety. It was jarring and disorienting and weRE THEY TALKING ABOUT BESSEL? It appeared that they were. Would you look at that. "He's important because by figuring out how to measure distance between stars, he accidentally invented time travel." And hear him out, please. "Because the way we see stars now isn't how they are right now. It's how they were YEARS AND YEARS AGO. And he also kinda helped discover Neptune, I think? And simplified the equation they'd been using to calculate eclipses? Unless I've got the wrong guy." Which he was certain he did not. |

"As has been said already, this studmuffin we have here is Germany astronomer Freiedrich Bessel whoooooooooo is credited with the astronomical achievement of the FIRST successful use of parallax to determine the distance to a star. NOOOOOOOOOOW...a parallax is a bit of a coooooooooomplicated concept...but if you all would be SO kind as to humor me with a bit of an physical illustration for this. ARMS UP!" She waited a moment for them to follow along, her own semi transparent arms raised and ready. "Arms straaaaaaaaaight out in front of you, dears. Thumbs pointing up up UP! Now close your right eye first and then switch, closing your left eye and keep changing which eye is open and which is closed for a few moments." Another pause to allow that to occur. "DOOOOOOOOOO you notice THAT as you change which eye is open, your thumbs seems to move back and forth compared to the background, just a smidgen but still mild movement? NOW move your thumbs so they closer to your face but not SOOOOOOOOO close that you go cross-eyed aaaaaaaaaaaaaand repeat this little experiment again. This time your thumbs will seem to move MUCH more back and forth. The closer your thumb is to you, the more it seems to move. THIS is a rudimentary understanding of a parallax!" Weren't they all just DARLING playing along? Oh ho ho ho! "NOW, ooooooours are FAR too close together to see the parallax of the distant stars, but were we to take a picture of a star then wait...ooooooooooooh let's say six months...so that the star is now on the OTHER side of the Earth's orbit, we can then see how far the star shifted in the sky back and forth. The closer a star is, the MORE it will seem to shift. By measuring how much a star shifts, it is possible to figure out how far away that star is from us. And THAT is what Bessel taught humankind with the parallax reading of a star called 61 Cygni of 0.314 arcseconds in 1838 WHICH, after some calculations, will give us the difference in position of a star as seen from the Earth and Sun." PHEW. Had they all caught that? Oh Marion DID tend to get a bit carried away with things. OOPSIE DAISY! "Now, this distance we keep referring to...the diiiiiiiiiiistance between a star and our own planet...or reeeeeeeally distances to stars and other distances on a galactic scale...is known as what?" OOC: thank you dears. We shall continue around same time tomorrow. |
"Sure!" Char handed out a few more bluebell flame jars then returned to her own seat with a twirl before sitting down and thrusting her hand up. OH SHE KNEW. SHE KNEW. Aside from REALLY FAR... "Parsecs! Which is PARallax SEConds!" She said with appropriate emphasis. Now if you were to ask Char how far a parsec was? LOL. Nooooooo idea. |
Bluebell flames! Alright, Owen knew how to make those things. He conjured a few but Charlotte beat him to handing it out so his were mostly crowded on top of his desk now, giving his face a brighter glow than the others. More for him then. AHHHHHHH, warmth. Studmuffin? What was a studmuffin? Muffins made him hungry. And a nugget of information about the man's portrait on the desk? He thought he was the Professor's late husband or something. Owen didn't know. NOPE. What he did know was that he was starting to get hungry. Muffin. Nugget. Chicken nuggets. Heh. Anyway, the man on the portrait wasn't the Professor's husband. He was Fred...something... Bessel who used parallax. Someone mentioned it earlier in class and Owen was still confused with the said term. Still, he followed what the woman was instructing them to do. One eye open, one eye closed. Other one open, other one closed. Ooooohkay. Owen could sort of see what the Professor meant. So that was a parallax? Owen tried to understand what the woman was saying next. Something about the distance, star shifts, cygni whatever that was and once again nope, this badger didn't know what the distance to stars and other distances on a galactic scale was. But Charlotte did. Parsecs? Huh. |
The Ravenclaw grinned at Azura in thanks for the Bluebell Flame. And as he did so, Jace caught Jasper’s expression this time, and knew immediately that he’d made a huge mistake by saying the word studmuffin. What? Is it a bad thing to say? Is it not...another term of endearment? It looks like Professor Burbage loves the guy to bits...so it shouldn’t be so bad, right? He’d have to ask Jakub about it later. He was sure his brother would know. Head snapping back at the professor, Jace gave the woman a polite nod, and stood up to write Mr. Studmuffin’s real name on the board. The Ravenclaw wrote it quickly but legibly since he has to take down his own notes for today’s lesson, seeing that the ghost professor can’t write things down on her own by hand or magic. Jace returned to his seat quietly and started to jot down notes instead of doing their little experiment. He’d already figure that bit by reading his Astronomy book; so instead, he made a few more notes in Japanese to aide him in his revisions later on: Stellar Parallax. Opting not to answer this time, Jace instead recorded Charlotte’s answer but gave it a bit of correction in his notes: 'Distance to Stars and other Heavenly Bodies is called Parsecs, or PARallax ArcSECond.' |
He thanked Char for the bluebell flame with a grateful grin. Although if she actually tossed one at him, what would've happened eh? Guess they'll never know…. And well his answer wasn’t wrong, which was GREAT because he had no clue who the old gent was, and upon listening to the class he realized how FAR OFF his thoughts were. So the dude was some egghead that measured stuff and named that stuff on his own. Great! Where the heck did Green Lantern come up with Parallax anywho? But oh activity time-- or sorta. They get to stretch see? Arms out in front like the Professor say, thumbs up, winky wink winky wink… yeah lengthy explanation but it made sense to him. Because explanation plus demo equals total win yeah! But of course he cant help but notice everybody else doing what he's doing. And he just couldn’t help either when he GUFFAWED at the sight of them. People looked like they were flirting at the beach or trying to hitch a ride with the wind in their eyes. Bahahahahahahaha! Next question. NO CLUE either-- too busy laughing to even think. Although Char yelled out parsecs. Oh so they're going from Green Lantern to Star Wars now? "Han Solo owns a ship that can do that." Probably an erroneous use of parsec, but that’s what he knows and that’s what he can share. |
Harvey thought hard about this, but he really didn't know anything about Astronomy. He had no idea. "Space miles?" he ventured, sure that he was wrong, but figuring a guess was better than nothing. |
Kimi had not known what the answer was so he wrote down everything that his classmates were saying he was glad for the jar of bluebell flames as it was warming him up a bit more and he didnt notice the chill in the classroom anymore |
Azura smiled over at her friends as they thanked her for the bluebell flames. She was just doing what she needed to keep her friends warm. She listened carefully to the Professor as she spoke and she smiled as she did the exercise that she had them do.. Huh.. it seemed like a simple concept, but to apply it to the stars.. That was brilliant! She titled her head at the next question and was about to answer but Char answered first! So instead she wrote the information down in her notes. Her guess had been light years, but that was the speed of light..not the distance between things.. Right? Her hand raised though to ask her question. "Professor, what's the difference between light years and a parsec?" She asked her. Hoping that it wasn't dumb or anything. |
Leesha stared stunned at the ghost/ahem, professor while she was talking and her mouth had almost dropped open AGAIN! It always happened during this lesson, no matter how often se had been in this lesson before, she never quite was able to follow the professor. This lesson was just so… Not her style! She understood what the professor showed them with their small practice but the rest? Hmm, Nope, already during the first question Leesha was lost and didn’t knew how to answer so she just leaned on her elbows while staring at the professor. |
Parsecs. Fine. New term. Katy should probably write it down, along with all the notes she'd taken on how the dead guy was neither a hedgehog nor a ghost, but she was busy. She was busy, and everyone had already said the answer already. So she'd just continue holding her thumbs up in front of her face and closing one eye. And then the other. One eye. The other. Magic. |
slight catch up >___< Quote:
Quill moving furiously over the parchment, trying to write word for word what Professor Burbage was saying about Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel - including writing the word 'studmuffin' more times than she would realize until she went over her notes back in her dorm later that evening - because she hadn't a clue who he was based on portrait alone. Not offer up any additional information on the man. Well, not unless she became a true master of multitasking and were able to take notes AND flip through the pages of her textbook at the same time. She had literally just finished with notes and was turning towards the page about Bessel when ANOTHER question was being asked. Again...not a clue...which was why she sheepishly began reading over the page on this particular astronomer and cross referencing her notes. ...to the discovery of Neptune in 1846 at Berlin Observatory....after Bessel's death... Something about the fact the Brian of all people had brought up Neptune's discovery within this context struck a cord with her. At least there was a small distraction with this thumb business...which actually made the concept make a bit more sense to the Hufflepuff. But only just a bit. And it was back to notes with the next question as well. Although she DID know what a light year was at least! That brought a faint smile to her features...even if it apparently was not the correct response. Why weren't astronomy terms as easy to remember as binomial names in Herbology? |
Rula didn't know who the "studmuffin" was, so she definitely didn't know any extra information about him. She did jot down a lot of notes as she listened though - who knew what parts of this would be on her OWL? - and she participated with the others for the parallax demonstration with their thumbs. Which was kind of neat and definitely helped her understand a little better. The next question she didn't know the answer to either, but that was okay since Char had already offered the answer. Rula scribbled that down and then waited to take more notes until Professor Burbage would elaborate on it. Since she probably would. But at least this fifth year's hand could take a break from note-taking for a little bit. |
Notes. SOOOOO. Many. Notes. ... But Olivia was paying attention, and that was really all that could be expected of her. No, she might not have known answers (or been able to contribute much to the general classroom discussion), but she was open to learning. So, perhaps her usually bouncy mood was best left out of this subject matter. It left for more time to focus ON the professor, than on everyone (her friends, namely) around her. Also, not going to lie... A studmuffin sounded like a delicious pastry, reminding Liv that she was, indeed, very hungry. Just one more thing to add to her growing list for the day, really... Lifting her arms, she adjusted her thumb and distance accordingly, going along with the others in this mini!experiment. It was interesting that something like this could aid in the explanation of something so... er, out of her wheelhouse. It didn't exactly give her insta!knowledge, but it was more than she knew beforehand. Also, it kinda gave her a headache. Also, Princess Azula had a very good question. Everyone had heard the term 'lightyears' as some point in their life. Especially if you watched as much muggle television as she did. So, Liv tuned in, poised to write down the answer as soon as it was given. |
*catches up* (Mons and Tues do NOT exist for me apparently T_T) For once, Livvy had seemed as unenthused about a lesson as he did--if her grunt was anything to go off of. A grunt. Did he grunt back...? Was this a thing now? In the end, the boy settled for a friendly nod before his attention returned to the ghost and the picture Charlotte (no surprise there) already knew about. What in Merlin's bloody beard was a parallax guy and how even was it a thing? Studmuffin too? It took everything in the boy not to raise his hand and ask if they'd get points for writing that in their exams. If they couldn't, there was no point dangling it in front of them like that. Really though, Blaise had no idea who that guy might have been, leaving him little choice but to have his quill take notes on any and everything his classmates might otherwise have had to add. Parallax, honestly. Who named these people? As it turned out, Livvy was having growing pains and Parallax man had a proper name; Freiedrich Bessel. Go figure. The boy leaned over to check that his quill had gotten that, adamantly or perhaps defiantly refusing the idea of bluebell flames; casting them in particular. Didn't matter that Char was offering to make them. It wasn't that cold, honestly. It felt fine to him. The flame would only make him toasty. Blaise's attention snapped from the flames to the Professor when she gave the instruction to have their hands up. Yes, up, his were up...aaaannnddd...stretched out in front of himself. Thumbs up, lots of squinting from one eye to the next. He wasn't sure where this was going, if he was being honest, until she told them to move their thumbs closer and do it again. Granted, he STILL didn't know where this was going but it was a neat trick nonetheless. By the time the demonstration was done, Blaise's attention span refused to suffer the block of explanation that followed. Yet another thing he would let his quill take down. There was really only SO MUCH embellishing this thing could do. He was sure he'd still understand it and be able to transfer it to proper notes by putting it into his own words. The boy found that helped him to learn and remember. "Professor at this point I'm willing to say that if Char says it then it's the right answer." Parsecs? Sure. That could be the answer--because Char said it and he'd never seen her wrong in a class. Of course he didn't attend Charms OR Transfiguration so those were sketchy but everything else. Mhm. |
Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel. So that was the name of the dashing gentleman with green hair. Kitty wrote it down in her notebook along with a note: Need to research this guy in the library later. Then the lesson had moved on. Stretching her arms over her head and closing her right eye and looking up her thumb - surely Kitty wouldn't have been caught dead in this position if she were the only doing it, but it was less embarrassing with all them at once. With all of them doing this at once it seemed like they were taking part in a Muggle mediation class, not that Kitty had ever been in one - but that's it looked like from movies she saw. The question of the correct terminology of distance between stars on the galactic scale was something Kitty thought she was well prepared for. "Perhaps in the wizarding world there is a different word for it, but in the Muggle world 'light years' is the common terminology - also known as parsecs." |
quick catch up. XD Katerina was starting to think that her dislike for astromony or her failure at it had nothing to do with Professor live long and prosper, it was completely her. Other than the bluebell flame the Hufflepuff was lost. Conjuring her own bluebell flame, since that was the only thing she knew she could do. She had know idea who that guy in the picture was. By the way Kat didn't think the dude was much of a studmuffin. Nope. She was sitting beside one possibly... no who was she kidding. He was. She tried not to do too much inner flailing. This was the best part of the whole class right now. Wait... she knew this answer No nevermind or did she. She raised her hand and nearly fell right out of her seat. "Lightyears? Ugh she should just sit quietly and take notes if the right answers. Maybe that would help. |
Slowly accustomising himself to the way that the ghost was speaking to them, Jasper had quickly scrawled down his notes, trying to make sure that he got any important information that the ghost was saying. Thankfully, courtesy to Jace being a successful Ravenclaw, he'd already had the heading of the Astronomers name. Tilting his head to the side, Jasper raised both of his hand up, keeping thumbs pointed at the ceiling as directed. He started by closing his right eye, then switched, and switched, and switched. About 10 seconds later he put his hands down, no longer intrigued by the movement that he saw. He was wondering whether he could somehow display that in a piece of art thought. That'd be an interesting project to work on. Quickly he went back to scrawling notes of Parallax Arcseconds, though he didn't understand what he was writing... maybe he could ask Jace later. Jace seemed to understand what this was. Staring blankly at Professor Burbage when she asked her question he waited for her to confirm that someone's answer was correct, so that he could write down the right thing in his notes. |
so TERRIBLE sorry for the delay, dears. And for just addressing some of you Quote:

"Also true, my dear an CLEARLY I need to do a bit of clarification as I have bewildered a few of you." Again...oopsies? "DOOOOOOOOOOO forgive me tears. My poor wording has caused a bit of confusion. Please permit me to go into a bit of detail...all of which can also be found in your textbooks should you require a bit of revision later," she began. "A light year is the distance light travels in a year which is about 9.5 trillion kilometers given that we knooooooooow light travels about 300,000 kilometers every second and there are about 31.56 million seconds in a year. Now...a parsec is far more complicated than that..." And SURELY she would lose a few of them as she explained, poor dears. "A circle can be divided into 360º, and each degree can be further divided into 60 arcminutes, and each arcminute can be divided into 60 arcseconds... in astronomy, we use small angles to talk about sizes and distances against the background of the sky. As Earth revolves around the Sun, we see distant stars from slightly different angles. In January a star might appear to be in one position, but six months later its apparent position has changed. This is called a parallax shift - WHICH is precisely what you all just demonstrated moments ago with your thumbs and closing one eye. A parallax second, or parsec, is the distance a star would have to be from Earth in order for it to appear to move by one arcsecond due to our viewing it from different sides of Earth's orbit. If you do the geometry right, you'll find that a parsec is equal to about 3.26 light years. So if the galaxy is about 100,000 light years across, it's about 31,000 parsecs across." LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG PAUSE. "Now, as Miss Valentine suggested, they are often seen as being interchangeable...and it IS true that astronomy books written for amateurs almost always use light years, but professional literature frequently uses parsecs." ANOTHER LOOOOOOOOOONG PAUSE. "Unless there are more questions, I would like to move on. Everyone...telescopes out and take position by a window," she chirped while floating towards the nearest one herself. "Please bring your textbooks with you as well. I would like you all to find a star for me...61 Ursae Majoris...you MAY be able to see it with the unaided eye...but if not please use your telescope. Star charts are in your textbooks to assist you. Once you have found it, please tell me ONE little nugget of information about it and perhaps WHY you think I asked you to find this particular star." She would bet 10000000 galleons that none of them would be able to guess though. HO HO HO! OOC: once again I am teeeeeerribly sorry for th delay my tears.I will try my tootin'-est to be a bit more prompt as we draw to a close soon. Just this and one more little activity to go. Catch up is always welcome <3 |
Juno wasn't a hundred percent sure on this one but she raised her hand anyway. When she was called on she replied, "I believe that would be a Parsec, Professor." She was pretty sure that was it. When she heard other people say Parsec and light-years, she was pretty it was the former. But she would wait to see what the professor said. Hah! She was right it was a Parsec afterall! Juno quickly grabbed a telescope and found an open area to set up. Once she was set up, she turned to the page in her textbook about 61 Ursae to look at the star chart so that she could properly find the star. She re-positioned her telescope to the area in the sky that 61 Ursae should be. She knew from looking in her text that it would be an orange-yellow color. It took a little time, but she finally spotted the star. She quickly raised her hand and waited to be called on. When she was, she replied. "We know that 61 Ursae is smaller than our sun." Yep. That was pretty much what she knew....other than the color. |
Blah blah blaaaaah! That was what Leesha was hearing while trying to listen what was being said. She absolutely remembered again why she always had so much trouble with her homework, this lesson was so boring! Sighing out loud she closed her eyes for a few minutes, it was already dark outside after all and she wished to be back in her common room, nice before the fireplace with a nice hot chocolatemilk... The sounds of the classroom faded and she fell asleep, just when everybody started moving. |
Aahh! They had finally got to the bit that Hattie was excited about! Harriet loved looking at stars. Star gazing was amazing. But she was really excited to learn more about looking at them properly. That was why Harriet literally jumped up onto her feet, and practically skipped after the Professor with her telescope. She was really excited to see a star! She set up her telescope, and listened to the Professor. She didn't want to get it wrong. Smiling, she began to look for the star. It took a good few minutes to find it. She wasn't too used to this yet, she was only a second year. But she soon found it. "ooooh...." And she liked it. But now she needed to think of a fact. She did have a little sneaky look in her text book. That was the best place to find out information after all Smiling, Hattie put her hand up in her air. "This star has served as one of the stable anchors by which other stars are classified" So that meant it helped classify other stars. That was pretty cool. "And....did you want us to look at it because of that? Cause it's kinda important?" She wasn't sure really, but she'd given it a go. |
Ohh! Her question had gotten answered. She was happy about that.. and now she sorta knew the difference between Light years and Parsecs.. Sorta.. She had scribbled down as much as she could on her notes.. but she might have to come back later and ask the Ghost for more information.. Just to make sure it really sunk in.. She smiled as they were instructed to go over and find a certain star.. So she moved over to a window and grabbed a telescope and then set it up and then.. The third year flipped through her text book to try and find exactly where they star was.. Ahh.. There it was.. She looked back at the Professor as she spoke and she raised her hand.. "I know it's in the Ursa Major Constellation which also has the Big Dipper in it." She said with a nod as she bit her lip a little as she wondered why the Professor had asked them to find this star Specifically. Though Hattie spoke up before Azura had a chance to speak again.. That sounded like a good answer..Though Az had another one.. she hoped.. "It doesn't have any stars that orbit it?" Ohh.. Was it lonely? That was so sad.. |
What.... wait? She was right? She was right. She was so confused by the professors question though, AND she still got the answer right. Maybe she wasn't as terrible as she thought she was. She did know her stuff. Stars moons everything! As soon as the professor told them to get up Kat was up on her feet. It had been killing her sitting and being cold .At lease now she could get up and get warm. She bounced by her desk to get warm again, tighten up her sweater, grabbed her textbook and telescope. Joining the others, she tried to find it with her bare eye. Nothing, maybe just a tiny speck. Maybe not even that much. Setting up her telescope, she took a look. THERE IT WAS! Thinking about what her reply was going to be, they were just talking about lightyears. So maybe... "Is it because its so far away that its barely noticeable with the naked eye?' |
Giggling Ghost Professor say what now? Blaise blinked a couple times at the ghost!woman, turning away only to look at Char before looking back to her. Flirting? With...Char.....? "Flirtatious advances"? Er.........No doubt his quill had taken that down but it was the lesser of his concerns. "I'm not flirting Char, Professor........" What even? "She's my friend and she knows things in class." Just gonna.....eye the ghost for a little longer. First the Friar and now her. Sweet Merlin. He wished he could say it was enough to distract him from the explanation that followed but he'd only be lying. The idea had already left his mind and the Professor's words STILL weren't readily accepted. More technical stuff he'd have to review later. Good thing his quill was taking notes. The boy had never been one to swallow blocks of information whole. At the end of it, Blaise grabbed his telescope and made for a window. Text laid before him, he got to looking. "You've got a soft spot for bears?" Seemed as legit as anything else. It was just a star. |
Katy wasn't immediately familiar with 61 Ursae Majoris, but she WAS familiar with how text books worked. She grabbed a telescope near bestie!Kat and flipped through the textbook in search of... 61... Ursae... thingy. Did that mean there were 60 previous Ursae thingies? How many were there total? Ah, there it was. Katy shifted her telescope slightly to point it in the right direction and took a squint through the lens. Star. Got it. And back to the book. "Professor Gho... Burbage? Like what Hattie was saying, 61 Ursae Majoris is sort of like the spectrum baseline that other stars are measured against." |
Olivia, who had honestly been zoning out (sorry Professor), sat up abruptly when her booming voice accused Blaise of flirting with Char. Hehe, sorry Blaise... but this was kinda funny. And listening to her friend trying to defend himself made it leagues funnier. Doth thou protest too much, Bellaire? DOTH THOU?! She smothered her giggles, returning once more to the ridiculously long notes she'd been forced into writing. Merlin, could they just get on with it, then? Astronomy wasn't all about science stuffs. WHERE WAS THE MYSTIC? Merlin, she'd read books, you know? This simply couldn't have been everything there was... Meh, it hurt her brain. Also, her knees. More walking and standing? Really, professor? Olivia grumped, digging her telescope out of her bag... before trudging (regrettably) towards one of the tall windows lining the walls. Also with book in hand, she looked up the recommended star chart, peering up into the quiet night sky thoughtfully. She was still very annoyed, mind. It was just that Astronomy was super difficult, and it frustrated her because she wanted to do well in all the lessons this year. Paired with stupid growing pains, she just wasn't in the best mindset for this lesson. Or subject. Ever. |

WELL, OF ALL THE NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERVE! Marion prided herself on being an understanding spirit, but such RUDENESS would NOT be tolerated in her classroom. Huffing and puffing and gliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiding through the air quickly towards the Slytherin, the ghost wiggled and jiggled in annoyance for a moment before opening her mouth. "EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE YOU," she fussed, decided that THE best way to wake the girl on her own was to just pass riiiiiiiiiight through her and give her a bit of a chill. "That will be 10 points from Slytherin for such RUDE behavior as to fall asleep in the MIDDLE of class." There was also some flapping of the arms like a hen fending off a fox from her chicks occurring. "Now if you are quite DONE," she fussed some more, turning her attention to those ACTIVELY participating. "Let us ALL continue." She paused to clear her throat. "All very good points, my dears. "As we have been discussing, astronomers use both parsecs and light years to measure the distance of stars and it is thanks to our studmuffin of the day that light year measurements were even fathomable. Now, as already said, one light year is the distance light travels in one year. Theeeeeeerefore if you look at a star ten light years from Earth, the light you see from it left ten years ago making that star ten years old. The particular star I have asked you to look for is 31 light years away...whiiiiiiiiiiich just SO happens to be the SAME as as your studmuffin of a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor making that starlight the SAME age as the man." Wasn't that just darling? Oh ho ho hooo. "Now, using your textbook and starcharts, I would like each of you to try and find a star with starlight the same age as yourself, meaning if you are 13 you need to find a star that is 13 light years away from our planet. Once you have found it and seen it yourself, please write it down on your parchment along with some important information - whatever you feel is significant - and set it on my desk. If you are feeling especially ambitious you may find more than one star IF possible. We will use our remaining time today for you to complete this. Keep in mind that some stars you see on your chart may not be visible with the naked eye and you will need to use your telescope to spot it. I am available for any questions you may have, dears."

Hattie just beamed as the Professor talked. She was happy that she had kind of been right. She was especially happy since she hadn't really known about the star. But she would do some night time reading about astronomy, so that for the next lesson she would know more! That was important. She wanted to learn as much as possible But onto the next task. She was really excited about this! To find a star that was the same starlight age as herself. So she was finding a star that was 12 years old. That couldn't be too hard right? Or at least she was hoping that it woudn't be. She was excited about finding a star. Stars were cool. Harriet began by looking in her textbook. So that she could find a star that was 12 years old like she was. She leant in pretty close to the book, so she could concentrate really hard on it. So there was Tau Ceti which was 11.9 light years away, which she figured kind of made the star 12 years old. She double checked to make sure there were no other stars before she picked that one, but she decided to go with that one. Before looking for the star Hattie began to write her notes down SPOILER!!: Hattie's notes Happy with her notes, Harriet moved on to looking for the star. She began by trying to spot it with her naked eye, since it was pretty close. But she wasn't sure it would work, but she gave it a try for now. |
Blaise didn't notice the Slytherin First Year who'd fallen asleep--and why would he?--but he DID the moment Professor Burbage got into her translucent feels. Airey had always been interesting in how he dealt with sleeping students and admittedly, it had left the boy curious to know how she would handle it. Point loss. Huh. The boy kept his gaze on the sky, outwardly giving very little sign he'd been paying attention to that little exchange but internally he couldn't help but sigh. 10 points? Sometimes he felt too much value was placed on such an intangible system of rewards. Couldn't very well go to Hogsmeade with the points he'd earned from the week and get himself a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Why fuss about losing them? Blaise's full attention returned to her at the next set of instructions. Finding the stars with the same age as themselves sounded a lot like something Professor Morgan might have told them to do while she was here. Bless that woman. So nice. He was never wrong in her class. The Gryffindor's hand rose, even as he scanned the list of stars? "What will we do after finding these birthday stars?" If this drifting into anything like Astrology, he was sending Airey a strongly worded letter. |
61 Ursae...Jace didn’t have to be told twice as he got up from his seat with his textbook and telescope in hand, and found a spot in one of the windows. Following his book’s instruction, Jace didn’t take long to spot the said star, and took down a quick note on why this particular star was being asked. 61 Ursae is like the point of origin, or the 0,0,0 in a plane axis where one can jump off to find the other values to pinpoint its exact location. Genius, really. Now to find his star! The Ravenclaw opened his star chart, squinting as he did so as he pointed out the right stars. After getting an initial glimpse, he then jotted down the names and added important notes about it. He had, by the way, charmed his other parchment to record a second copy for his revision later on since he wasn’t too sure if Professor Burbage would return his work. He took a moment to review his work, and once he was satisfied, went up to place his work on the professor’s table. How in Great Jupiter’s name would she flip through their work anyway? More importantly, how would she bring their work back to her office? “Uhm...professor? Would you like me to help you bringing these to your office?” It would only be a short distance from the classroom, and it wouldn’t be a long way from the Ravenclaw tower so he’d be quick and not miss curfew. SPOILER!!: Parchment! |
Dreaming nicely about hot chocolate the first year Slytherin smiled in her sleep, just when… Somebody was talking really loudly! How rude of that person! Then a cold shill crept through her and she opened her eyes startled, that she didn’t liked! Who was fooling around with her like that? Puffing her cheeks she looked up and saw the… Professor hanging before her? Oeh oeh, she was in trouble! Maybe the professor would send her out of the less, she would like that, the les was boring anyway! But… Her eyes widened only slightly while hearing her punishment and she looked angry. It wasn’t her fault that the lesson had been boring! She already opened her mouth to protest when the professor just… Ignored her? Listening to what the professor said she gritted her teeth, so she really needed to do the activity and she didn’t wanted to. She really, really didn’t wanted to! “Stupid old ghost” she muttered darkly while thinking about something she could do to have her revenge, maybe something with the professor’s grave? Hmm… |
Azura looked back at the Professor as she started talking again, she blinked a little as she heard the reason that they were looking up that specific star.. cause it was the same age as Professor Hirsch? *blink* *blink blink* Huh.. that was certainly new and nothing they would have done should Professor Airey be teaching. Once again she missed her teacher and she bit her lip as she turned back to her textbook in order to find her star. She was nearly 14, in about a month or so. but still 13 right now. So 13 light years away.. ish. She scanned her textbook and found several stars that were 13 light years away.. so she tried to narrow it down to one.. She didn't want to put all of them, so instead she got the one that was closest to 14 light years.. like herself. She looked through her telescope to find the star she had picked and then started to write her notes SPOILER!!: Az's notes There. She rolled up her parchment and then moved to put it on the Professors desk. She smiled as she heard what Jace said.. "Yeah do you need help Professor? I could help out too.. so We can make one trip? " She suggested. |
So Kitty's answer on light years and parsecs had been a little muddled. You could blame Muggle television for that. Upon further reflection Kitty realized that citing shows like Star Wars for scientific facts may not have been the best idea. Yet upon further reflection she decided that it was better to contribute a slightly wrong guess than it was to add nothing. Speaking of which...what was with that first year Slytherin (Leesha) girl? Kitty stared at her for a few moments, wondering if she were sick. No, she didn't look sick - which made it all the more bizarre to Kitty that she would fall asleep in class. She would have been WAY too self conscience in her first year to ever even DREAM of falling asleep. And maybe it was since Kitty was a Ravenclaw that she couldn't understand how anyone could find listening to a teacher talk boring, but the lessons where you just had to sit down to listen (or read and write) and discuss were always her type of lesson. At least there was no physical danger or danger of being poisoned. Oh well. Time to return to the lesson. Kitty averted her gaze from the younger Slytherin and began researching her star. The day after tomorrow she would be 15 so she selected OGliese 876... "Dwarf star in Aquarius, the Water Bearer; has planets..." She read aloud. |
One moment, Olivia had been standing there, peering up into the bright night sky, trying to get her temper in check.....And in the next?! Professor Burbage's booming voice had sliced through the Astronomy classroom like a falling sword. So startled was the blonde, that she'd dropped both her telescope and the textbook, the items hitting the floor with a clang!. EXCUSE YOU! Eeep! The blond quickly bent down to recollect her telescope and textbook, because Merlin's eyeball..... "Professor, could you help me find one to best fit me? All these numbers are hurting my brain." Like, really. SO MANY NUMBERS. And they weren't listed just as her age, but numbers that were WAY up there. Maybe she was misinterpreting the list, but eh, best to get some clarification, right? |
Oh, this was a cool activity! Though, she still missed Professor Airey, Professor Burbage seemed really great! And this activity was really neat. Juno quickly pulled open her textbook and her star charts to find a star that was 15 to 16 light years away. She was going to be 16 in February so if she could find something that was 15.7 to 15.9 that would be perfect! Luckily, she found one that was 15.9! She looked for the coordinates on her star chart, then positioned her telescope in the general area that the star should be in. Then she spotted it! It was absolutely lovely. She was really excited that she actually found it. Her birthday star! Well....her birthday star for now. Juno found the star in her textbook, and jotted down notes about it on her parchment. As soon as she was done she rolled it up, and placed it on the Professor's Desk. SPOILER!!: Juno's notes Juno over heard Azura and a Ravenclaw student asking if they could help Professor Burbage take the papers back to her office for her, and thought it would be a good idea if she pitched in as well. "Oh, I can help too Professor if you need it." She smiled. |
Birthday stars! That was cool... although it would be cooler if they could rename the star after themselves. Katy flipped through the textbook again, although it wasn't nearly as straightforward as the last assignment they were given. Most stars had pretty high numbers, which made you think... the light they saw from those stars had first shined years and years ago. Years and years and years. It was kind of like time traveling. But there were a few that were basically Katy's age, and she thumbed through them until she found one she liked. SPOILER!!: Katy's Parchment |

SPOILER!!: all the little helpers Oh now wasn't this teeeeeeeerribly kind of the little dears. "Oh no that will not be necessary," the ghost tutted affectionately at the trio. Especially considering how she did not have a proper office this term. Her Tower Patch served as more than a suitable location for mingling with students should the need arise. "But I DO thank you for your hospitality." Quote:
HUFF! She would speak to the young woman's head of house about this as well. He seemed to be especially compassionate towards the Hogwarts ghosts this term and SURELY would have more than a few words for this young lady. Quote:

"I'll be Fourteen in April." In less than have a year. That was VERY important to note, in her honest opinion. |

But the rest of what was happening.... there was a LOT of talking and Char had to concentrate to really pay attention. But she was happy to look for a star, that was okay. And since she was ALMOST/APPROXIMATELY fifteen, she would look for ALMOST/APPROXIMATELY fifteen year old starlight. It was easier in her head to think about it as the starlight than the star for sure. After some flipping through her book and working through tables she found one. Gliese 674. Listed as 14.81 ± 0.10 light years away. Sooo that would work, right? Okay what other info could she.... oh it had a planet! Cool. She scribbled that on the parchment and then got up to get her telescope. |

Kaycee frowned as she looked between her textbook and the starchart. Ugh. So much math. Why didn't calculators work here? That would make life a lot easier. OKAY. Altair. That star was 17. She wrote that down on her parchment and then tried to find something interesting about it. She drummed her fingers on her book as she skimmed it. She then wrote something on her parchment. Quote:

Oh ho ho ho and part of the constellation Ophiuchus! And yes, another warm smile to you, Azura. Thank you, darling. OOC: no more than 24 hours left, my dears, to get in your star viewing posts. |
Char was almost ready for starlight spotting! Gliese 674 should be visible without the telescope depending on the time of year and depending on the location, right? And she coul.... oh. It was too far south to see! Ohhhh that was disappointing. Did that mean she had to find a DIFFERENT one? But she'd been kind of enamored with this one! It was ALMOST fifteen like her! Maybe she could find another ALMOST fifteen? SIGH. Back to the boring stuff. AKA, the text book. |
*catching up* x3 >_< With that kind of enthusiasm for the AWESOME Han Solo, Tenacius didnt care if the lady spectre wasnt a sc-fi fan-- she knew who Han Solo was and that all that matters! Thats two thumbs up in his book! But right, it was all about parallax and light years. Light years! He knows what those are! But then it was time to move to the windows and off he goes, with his telescope and his book and looking for the 61 Ursae Majoris..... whats so important about it? He wouldnt know, because he was too busy trying to find where in the sky it was. Stargazing noob? No, he knew how to work a telescope-- he has his own out on the deck back home-- thing is, often it wasnt pointed at the sky. Ahem. Boys will be boys eh? Oh so this star thing was as old as Professor Hirsch?? Well whaddya know, theres a star out there that is practically a Hirsch-y twin. And much to his own delight-- they get to look for stars that have the same age as they do. Cool! So whats his star twinsies?.... ........ ok apparently stars arent a big thing around the time he was born, astronomical ones anyway. Because he really had to go through the list of looking for one that was about 13-14 light-years old, because he was 13 going on 14. Seems like there were more stars around his dad's age. How typical..... --But oh! He finally found a set of stars around his-- red dwarf stars. Ok not the most exciting, if anything its the most common, and for a hot pumpin ball of fiery gas, its relatively cool-ish. But hey he has a star twin thingy and he's pretty happy with that. SPOILER!!: notes |
Her attention was waning now. This was hard. All the good ones seemed to be something she wouldn't be able to SEE. Charlotte sighed and listlessly turned through the pages. ......... there were a lot of stars with Gliese in front of the name. Oh hey what about Gliese 687? Would her telescope even be strong enough for that? Well, wouldn't know until she gave it a try! |
Sighing dramatically because she already had lost all her interest in the lesson she took her textbook and the necessary tools to do what she was told and looked up at the sky but there were reaaaaly a lot stars! Puffing because she didn’t wanted to work hart today she looked with a sour look in her eyes at her textbook and searched for the right start. She was eleven years old so she needed to look for a star eleven light-years away. Hmm… She had found one! “Procyon” She muttered to herself while looking more intently at the chart in her textbook to see how she could find the right star but… Well… It looked really hard and again, she didn’t wanted to work hart today! It was already evening and she wanted to relax in her common room! Taking her telescope she looked up at the sky and searched for twenty minutes before she found the star she was looking for! Ha! Satisfied that she had done it she quickly looked at the instructions what she needed to do next. Hmm, that didn’t sounded too hart, just writing something down! That she could do… Deciding that one thing could be enough she slowly made a note about the star she had found. Quote:

Oh. Well he supposed that didn't sound too horrid. Alright. Sure. Fine. A piece of the galaxy he could be connected to. The boy turned his attention back to the list of stars in his text. There were so many that he clearly...er...shared the galaxy with. He supposed all he really had to do was pick one. Best way to do that? Random selection of course! Blaise closed his eyes and brought his finger down onto his book, opening it only after he could feel the paper beneath him. Wolf 424, how very fitting. The Gryffindor wasted very little time scribbling the information he found relevant onto a piece of parchment then headed for the desk the Professor could never use to drop it off. "All yours." SPOILER!!: Parchment |
She had been listening…yes she had been. Astronomy just wasn’t her strong suit so Cassie tended to do better listening, and reading outside class, then trying to guess answers. Which was why she had been quiet for the most part during the course of the lesson. The Ravenclaw having found the star in question just as Professor Burbage brought their attention back to her as she moved on with her lecture. Stars that were the same age as them? A cool concept…so she would have to look for one 13 years, well lightyears away from them. Cass opened up her textbook, flipping through where various stars that were considered ‘near’ were given, scanning for any one that fit the bill. Lacaille was just a little too young. Gliese was too old. But there were a handful that seemed about right. She turned her attention to the star charts to see where they might be. There was no guarantee any of them would be noticeable from where they were but she wasn’t the only 13-year-old in the room so hopefully at least one was. First by plain sight…then by telescope. THERE! Wolf 1061. Taking a clean sheet of parchment that she could turn in, Cassie wrote down what she could find about the star in question as well as trying to give her most accurate description of where she had found it. SPOILER!!: Work |
Blinking. There was lots of it going on right now - insane amounts really - as the Hufflepuff both tried to retain SOMETHING that was being thrown at them in the cornucopia of information while also trying to follow instructions with their telescopes and finding their own birthday stars. She was...just going to try to focus on the latter of all that for now...finding a star that was 17, almost 18, light years away. Shouldn't be too difficult, yeah? Only as her finger trace down the page she was only finding things in the 16 light year range and then jumping to 18 light years...which meant she needed to reason a little with this, yeah? "Sigma Draconis," she read aloud, looking at the 18 light years away star first. Well...18 and nearly 19 light years away, really. As appealing as this one felt, because finding a star in association with such a strong constellation was the sort of boost she could use, it wasn't right. Which is why her blue eyes then fell on the 16, almost 17, light years away star - which she supposed was closer to her actual age and therefore a better suited fit. "Altair..." she whispered, flipping through her textbook to read up more on the particular star, finding it a bit ironic that it was a part of the constellation Aquila considering her fear of flying...but the more she read the more enthralled she became with the particular star. For reasons that, judging by how Professor Flamsteed had felt about the subject, were not suited for this particular classroom. Quill out, Paige set to scribbling down some basic facts - keeping the more...whimsical aspects of her findings to herself. SPOILER!!: parchment Deciding she best turn her parchment in before she spiraled off into the Scorpio mindset, Paige duplicated her work with a wave of her wand - so she could spiral on her own back in her dormitory later - and quickly got to her feet and set the parchment on the professor's desk and then went back to her spot by the window and began packing up her things. |
All the scientific lecturey stuff was a little lost on Henry but he did take his telescope and textbook with him as he got up to take a place by the window. It wasn't that the topic wasn't interesting. It very much seemed like time travel which was a really cool concept but it was also a lot of explanatory stuff that he wasn't as interested in. But he did want to try to find that star, 61 Ursae Majoris, as he did enjoy the practice of star-gazing. It took all of his concentration and focus to find the star, using his textbook to find the coordinates and location, but he was fairly certain it was the correct one when he did. The Hufflepuff was fairly accustomed to using a telescope, after all. But.. what were they supposed to do after they found it? Henry sort of forgot and the ghostly professor was talking about something else now anyway. Another star, this time finding one that had a similar age as his own. Considering that he would be 15 in just two months, Henry wondered if he could find one that was almost 15, or if it did have to be just 14. Flipping through his book and cross-referencing with his star-chart, Henry found a couple with the name Gliese and a different number. As he tried to decide just which one to choose, he started to wonder why there were several with the same name but different number - why not just give them a completely different name? - and just how Gliese was pronounced. Like Gleece, Glice, or Glee-ess.. or some other variation. Maybe it didn't really matter, but if it was his star, at least for the purposes of this class, he wanted to know how to say it correctly. Deciding on Gliese 687, Henry wrote down a few semi-interesting facts about the star before he'd start looking for it. It was in the constellation Draco, which he was pretty sure was one that could be seen all year-round and that was promising. But his book did say that he would need a moderately sized telescope. Hopefully his was strong enough and he began searching the coordinates. SPOILER!!: Henry's notes |
Oh Merlin, they'd just lost points? Rula looked over at the Slytherin that Professor Burbage had scolded for falling asleep, and it looked like a much younger girl, probably a second or first year. So...Rula wasn't too upset over it. Ten points wasn't too bad anyway; they could make up those points pretty easily. Turning back to listen, it appeared they were now looking for stars the same age as them. Okay, that sounded fun actually! That was a really neat thing to think about too. She was totally on board for this. Skimming over the pages, she searched for one that was 15 - practically almost 16! - light years. There appeared to be a few, but nothing really caught her attention at first... Why were star names so boring? Why didn't they have pretty or cool names like the planets in their solar system did? There was nothing interesting about just a random bunch of letters and numbers. But then one finally jumped out at her that had a somewhat interesting name - Groombridge 1618. Groombridge sounded like a cool word. And it was around 15 light years away, so it worked. Flipping through some more pages in her textbook to find out more about it, she wrote down whatever sounded interesting or important to her. Text Cut: Rula's parchment That seemed like enough, right? Looked good to her at least, because a lot of the other information had a lot of numbers in it, and she didn't feel like writing all those down. So now, after she set the parchment on Professor Burbage's desk with the others, she could look for it. Shouldn't be too hard since it was in the same constellation as the other star they'd looked for, right? |

Man, she was hungry.... which was probably more than obvious, given the way her stomach was screaming. Screaming.... growling? Same thing. It was being LOUD. "Thank you for helping me." It was simply polite to say as much, and Liv toted her telescope back over to the tower window afterward; trying to track down her very own birthday star. Professor Burbage had suggested number 36 on the star chart... named Wolf 1061. Huh, WOLF. Like... haha, when she used to be in the Wolfpack. The ONLY girl, which was the highest of the esteemed honors, mind. But no thinking about that right now. It only made her sad how far she'd fallen out with her closest friend. Was that it? Peering through her telescope, Liv thought it might've been... Huh. It was so hard to say. UGH. THIS WAS A HARD FLIPPING SUBJECT. How did you know if you were looking at the RIGHT star. There were literally MILLIONS... Eh.... Filling out her parchment with facts she'd gotten from the textbook, she trekked back towards her desk, dropping the parchment for Professor Burbage.... Actually, how the heck did ghosts grade papers? Did they get assistance from other professors? Student leaders? It was a stray thought, but one that would plague the blonde well into the next lesson block. SPOILER!!: Parchment! |
The good thing about this Gliese was like the first Gliese she had looked at, it had an exoplanet, soooo she could just go ahead and use that original fact, with just changing the number accordingly. Finding it though, that was harder. Charlotte spent a few more minutes looking before giving up. She wasn't inclined to pretend she'd found it when she hadn't though. "Professor Burbage I can't find my star!" She said cheerfully, even as she put the parchment down on the desk. But she'd found out a thing about it, at least! And she was almost out of time, right? So maybe she could look for it later? SPOILER!!: parchment |
