NOOOW ENTERING THE DUELING RING...... STANDING AT 163 CENTIMETERS.... and WEIGHING SEVEN STONE......
Olivia Phillips!
.... and the crowd goes wild!
Ahem.
Nah, but here Liv was... and she was totally ready to rock this duel today. In fact, for several days now, the blonde Gryffindor had been taking special care of her legs, keeping her strength up and not exerting herself. Especially given her recent heartbreak, it only served to fuel her drive to fight.... and win. And forgive her in advance, Genny, because she might be a bit more ruthless than usual. Just getting those aggressive feels out, you know? Especially given how she'd done Tak....
"Tate." It was a super serious greeting, kinda... but Olivia was simply emulating the seriousness she was feeling in the moment. After the customary bow, because it was simply polite (and the rules), she withdrew her wand. Where to start? On one hand, Liv wasn't too familiar with Genny's dueling style, save for her ravaging Tak a few weeks ago... Hmm. Best to feel her out, then.
So, first things first.... "Rictusempra!" Something simple.... and to follow that up, she quickly cast the Feather-Light charm on herself, which was NOT far-fetched... as she'd personally trained with Charlotte Kettleburn and had learned it directly FROM her. So, in her case, this wasn't false imitation.

Genny, on the other side of the aisle, was not as serious as Liv when she ascended. In fact, she was smiling widely and sending little waves to the familiar faces sitting to watch them. Liv's serious attitude was apparent but Genny did not anticipate a ruthless duel with her housemate. "Liv." She chose a first-name greeting before bowing and assuming the defensive position with her steady arm half-risen and the wand directed at Liv.
Genny blinked seconds before the first spell hit her square in the chest. One second she was standing, the other she was on the ground laughing painfully with few drops of tears streaming down her cheeks. It was humiliating because Genny did not want to laugh like this in front of people (she'd only lose control of her laughter around her friends), and it hurt her sides to laugh this hard. She almost suffocated, too!
This lasted about a few minutes where she just rolled on the floor laughing unable to do anything else, really. And she was a difficult target because she could not stop moving.
The laughter gradually decreased until it was no more. Without wasting any time in getting up, Genny's wand made a swooping move towards Liv, "Locomotor Mortis." First in an attempt to stabilize her target, "Ventus," with a strong wave of air that did not need a stabilized target anyway.
If Liv trained with Charlotte, Genny was Tate's daughter. No messing around with her, and still can have fun with it.

Genny was clearly in a good mood and for a moment, it almost affected her less-than-pleasant one, but then she remembered certain things and could only narrow her eyes a bit more. She couldn't let anything take her out of the zone. The DUELING zone. There were loads of reasons, but none of that could be thought about right now. She had to focus...
There was movement on both sides, and the spell exchange had fully commenced! As for her own spell, Genny had taken the tickling charm right in the chest, and for a moment, Olivia thought she was going to pop up from the ground and start fighting back, as she'd seen her fiery friend do in class.... but she hadn't? Liv's eyes had remained focused on the girl, thankfully, as she might've missed the wand movement otherwise.
"PROTEGO!" In a move to rebound the leg-locker curse back towards Genny... but then again, she'd been so focused on protecting herself that she completely missed the second spell, Ventus!.... which was NOT Feather-Light friendly. Already light on her feet, it was downright impossible for Liv to find her footing and twirl away from the forceful wind, causing it to knock her back towards the edge of the ring. So much so that it nearly put her OUT of the ring.
Advancing back towards the center of the arena, once the wind had finally died down, the blonde Gryffindor fired off another spell, her breathing labored and hair properly windblown.

As if Liv knew exactly when Genny was going to cast because her first jinx was being deflected and in an instinctive move of a Beater, Genny moved a sidestep to avoid her own jinx. With knitted eyebrows, the third year watched her peer being knocked back by the wind, almost out of the dueling arena even. That feather-light spell must've been on because Liv could not be that light. This sparked an idea in Genny's mind..
... which distracted her for only a second when the next jinx was rushing towards her from Liv. Genny wanted to counter it so she yelled an unclear anti-jinx incantation that didn't work of course. Her fingers in one hand went limp, and her frowned deepened even more. "ugh." It REALLY hurt, ow!
Shaking her hand, Genny shifted her feet and raised her wand with the good hand slowly. She'd seen her dad and other adults in her family duel, and they all had this graceful way of moving which got her always jealous so she was definitely imitating some of them without even knowing. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Aiming it at feather-light Liv, Genny made sure to whisper the first-year level spell, intending to float her friend high up in the air and keep her there as long as the spell allowed.

Okay, so her rebounded spell hadn't connected, but Olivia assumed it wouldn't. That particular Protego! was fired off more out of the instinct to protect herself than actual strategy to attack Genny.... BUT in other, BETTER news, her Jelly Fingers curse HAD managed to stick. Liv fought the urge to wildly pump her fists into the air, opting instead to twirl further to the side of the arena. She was looking for an advantage... Any advantage. Focus was so important...
.... And that's when it happened.
One moment, she'd been smoothly dancing across the floor, her feet properly turned out, implementing her dancer's grace to use the entire space.... but then?... Well suddenly, the blonde Gryffindor was being hefted up into the air, the surprise and shock of it painted clearly across her face. Whut?!
Genny.... had levitated her?!
For several moments, Olivia could only stare down upon her housemate, but then.... BUT THEN.... an idea presented itself. Quite abruptly, to be honest. This was actually a golden opportunity. Did Genny realize? Hmm, probably not. Not that her fellow Gryffindor was dense, but... she was ruled by her emotions. Much like Liv herself was, but her mama was also a Slytherin and for once in her life, she was glad for some of the mentality the woman had inadvertently taught her. As mums will do.
It was simple. If Olivia could manage to cast from up in the air, there was no way for the other girl to see it coming. Nor was there a way for her to properly defend herself in time. And casting wasn't going to be difficult. Like Genny, Liv had flying in her genes and she'd gotten over the shock of being levitated already. She just needed to focus on a spell.
Hmmm, one she'd mastered, as well as having a wand motion that looked spastic enough to seem like dramatic flailing..... "Flipendo Duo." It was said quietly, so as not to alert her opponent.

Liv was definitely right about one thing, Genny was ruled by her emotions almost entirely. Her mother was a Ravenclaw which might make people think Genny got anything from her, but no. All she got was the hot headed side of her, and with her father's personality? That made for a chaos of emotions in a young teen's head. Her levitation spell worked of course, it was first-year basics, and Genny had her smile on as she carefully allowed Liv to float up in the air. Now, her eyes did not leave her friend because she did not want to hurt her at all, and losing focus would cause Liv to fall to her butt.
It was very difficult to recognize the flying Gryffindor as she said the incantation. However, since Genny's eyes were fixated on her, she noticed the frantic wand movement with squinted eyes. Being levitated in the air did not require this much flailing, not to mention that Liv was not one to surrender even when she was floating. She was a fierce one, the idea of retaliation was not that far-fetched. Almost simultaneous with Liv's spell, Genny cast the anti-jinx letting it engulf her whole in a red flash.
She was right. Liv's wand released a jinx that was absorbed by that defensive spell with almost no effect at all except for a pinch. Needless to say, though, that Genny's levitation spell lost its effect on Liv in those intense moments.

That had been the plan, you realize? Getting dropped. So, even though her spell hadn't hit.... which was disappointing, given that Olivia couldn't quite figure out how Genny had KNOWN it'd be a jinx... she still repositioned her legs beneath herself, prepared for the impact. And thanks to her lingering Feather Light charm, the punishment against her knees was practically nonexistent. Thankfully, that.
.... but as far as firing back... Genny had only defended, which brought the blonde up short.
Eyes ablaze with her inner fire, spirit, and determination, Olivia quipped, "Giving up, Tate?"

Maybe, when pairing up two very Gryffindor Gryffindors up against each other that this wasn't going to be an easy duel to look over. It wasn't going to be simple, there was going to be fire and a determination to win and you know what? Hirsch liked that. These were exactly the kind of duels he liked looking in on.
He wasn't let down, either, in terms of this duel. There was some quick thinking involved and a clever strategy and that was exactly what made for a good dueller. You had to think on your feet and think your way out of tight situations, even if you were dangling up in the air while at it. Pleased? He really was.
When the time came to a close, he didn't bother striking up the shield. No spells were cast, there was no need for it. Instead, rather boldly, he stepped out towards the two and said, "Excellent! You've both proved yourselves to be great duellers." Could they tell how happy he was? "Congratulations, Miss Phillips. You've taken the lead in this round. And very well done, Miss Tate."
