Default Of Mr Kitridge

The first you see is the fishing gear hanging on pins left of the doorway. The librarian is a bit fishing obsessed so he has brought some fishing equipment if time lets him explore the great lake’s fishing possibilities. The next thing you feel is cozy warmth emanating from the roaring fire place nearby. Remembering the chilliness of the halls and rooms in the castle from his years here Mr Kitridge has taken steps to see too that at least one place is warm and comfortable. In the center of the office you see what should be a desk under all the stuff currently placed on it like charts, crammers, stacks of books, an odd telescope or crystal ball and last but not least a big bowl of candy. Behind the desk, a large comfy chair with a pillow in it is situated.

Hanging on the walls around the office are portraits of former notable librarians like Madam Pince, Madam Rowena, Angela Kohan, David Kapoor and Madam Donovan. The collection of portraits/photographs is completed with some Kitridges who've been successful in some way or other through the course of time. No office of a librarian is complete without a curvy s-shaped bookshelf.

OCC: I will not have an arrival thread so please don't clog up the thread with 'waiting to enter' posts. Have your character knock on the door and then wait for Mr Kitridge to allow you to enter or to come back later. If you have any questions or want to set up a meeting don't hesitate to PM or VM me.

Thoughtfully he leaned back more in his chair as he responded to her query. A question Leo hadn't really put much thought to. "If you're inside Ravenclaw Tower then you can wear the clothes that feels most comfortable, but outside in the castle or the grounds when classes aren't in session then it's better if you wear your full uniform with your house robes included. It will make it easier for you and won't make you lose any points. Plus I can't tell every professor and staffer that I've given you permission to not wear your house robes then all the students will want to follow suit. And then it'll turn into chaos." Something that Leo wanted to avoid at all costs.

Shaking his head Leo said "I'm sorry that some people have made you feel that way Hadley. I just want you to strive to become the best self that you can be. I want you to be Hadley, nobody else. If your closest friends accept you as you are isn't that enough? Do you have to care what everyone else thinks? It's what you think that matters. Don't forget that!"
"My owl," she confirmed, nodding. He was a birthday gift to her the year before coming to Hogwarts, and, well, given she was the only one in the house with a need for an owl, she wasn't sure she'd exactly call him the house owl.

"I understand, sir." She honestly didn't. If she wore her robes to class, and was still in her uniform when not in class, why should it matter if she was without her robes hanging out in the library, or eating lunch or just hanging out with friends? It wasn't like she was in street clothes. She was still in the uniform she had on under her robes. But she wasn't going to argue the point. It'd be pointless too.

She merely listened to rest of what he had to say. His words were right of course, and made sense. They were the ideal that all adults tell you to do, but part of what makes them all human makes it very hard to actually achieve. It shouldn't matter what others thing, but more often than not, it did. Especially when all you've ever hoped for was a place to belong truly. After a slight lingering silence, Hads said, "I won't forget, sir. Thank you." So was that it then? "Did you have anything else you wanted to talk to me about?"

Those were certainly sad and dark times, but one only needed to remember to turn on the light.

Softly taking a seat on one of the chair available to him, the man's dark eyes went back and forth between Leo and Azura. He nodded his head, confirming to the girl that they all did receive an owl from her aunt. The warm smile on his face was still there, though it did lessen when the girl revealed how she felt. Numb; chest aches; can't seem to cry... She did know that it was okay to cry? It was, after all, a part of the grieving process.

"Tea would be wonderful, Mr. Kitridge. Dank you," he said calmly, his eyes lingering from the Ravenclaw for just a moment. The man took a deep breath, replaying what Azura had just said moments ago. The fact that she was having chest aches worried him. "Have you been to see Healer Murdoch, mah dear? I am quite positive dat she would be able to provide a potion or two to help wit da chest pains."

Which he was sure that Headmaster Sahnoun agreed with.

"I completely understand that it's hard to talk about how you feel right now Azura and that is perfectly okay. You should know that all the staff here at Hogwarts are here for you in this difficult time. Anytime night or day you feel like you want some adult company then my door is always open.."

Pouring up a second cup of tea for headmaster Mo he handed it over asking "Isn't your office door also open for student visits Headmaster Sahnoun?" Did the school have a counsellor that they contacted in these types of cases? He'd ask Mo about that after Azura had left.

The aching chest pains Azura was experiencing were concerning. Looking over at Azura again he said "If you want I can ask Professor Newton if he has some potions he could brew for you for your pains. How are you sleeping dear?"

"Is it stressing to not know who is going to be your legal guardian for now on?" Leo assumed so but if Azura voiced it then he could possibly send a reaching out letter to her Aunt and Stepdad to see how the talk was going.

Azura shook her head as the Headmaster spoke to her. "I haven't been to see The Healer, Headmaster." She seemed really busy, cause she wasn't around much, also.. Azura had heard that she was mean. And to be quite honest, she didn't feel with dealing with mean people right now. Especially right now. It was a miracle she hadn't been to the Healer's wing last term.. "Perhaps I'll pay her a visit soon." She said softly as she looked up at Mr. Kitridge as he handed her some tea.

She took her cup and stared down into the steaming liquid, letting it warm up her hands as she breathed into the hot steam for a moment.

"I.. know it's a natural part of the process. But there are always so many people around. I've swallowed back my tears so often.. They just don't seem to come out now." She whispered as she felt her eyes burning, but once again.. nothing was coming out. Her chest was getting tighter as well, with the force of her un-shed emotions and she whimpered a bit as she kept her eyes on her tea for just a moment.

She nodded as she finally looked up at Mr. Kitridge, "Thank you, Mr. Kitridge, I'll probably take you up on that." She whispered softly, especially around Christmas.. and her mom's birthday. She bit her lip as her eyes shimmered with tears, but even though her vision blurred for a moment.. nothing came out.

Asking Professor Newton was a much better idea than going to the Healer and Azura nodded. "Yes please, I would like that a lot actually.." She paused as her hands gripped her cup.. "I.. haven't..been.. sleeping well." Her voice was soft as she finally got the words out. She got such terrible nightmares.. Nightmares of Vampires coming after her like they had her mom.. She choked softly as she took a deep breath.. biting her lip.. "Hogwarts is safe right?" She asked as she looked up at her head of house and the Headmaster.."Vampires can't get in.. right?" She asked them..

The tiny girl was serious and very scared of the possibility that her school wasn't safe. Maybe if she knew nothing would happen to her.. she could relax a little? Or at least try to trick her overthinking brain into sometimes thinking she was safe..

Azura bit her lip and nodded at Mr.Kitridge's question.. "Yes, it's very.. hard to deal with. What if neither one of them wants me? My step Dad hasn't adopted me before this.. Why would he now that my mom is gone? She was the only thing tying us together."

Finally.. Finally.. some tears were making their way down her cheeks..

SPOILER!!: Mr Kitridge and Rooney

Although… Sabbath’s version of events took him by surprise and he couldn’t help but laugh loudly to garner attention back his way. Because this had been his meeting initially. First off, how could someone forget causing enough drama that one person ended with a bruise on their face?

”Liar!” Okay, no. Rooney wasn’t going to let him talk about Noah that way, when in his eyes…there was nothing the Diggory boy could have done to avoid the horrible things that had followed.

”Sir, I..” How to put this nicely..? ”I’m one hundred percent positive that Noah wasn’t harassing anyone. Especially not the girl who was his best friend until someone Pointed fingers in Sabbath’s direction now.. ”decided to get involved.” The fourth year put his glass onto Kitridge’s desk and decided then to put his badge back on. Because he wasn’t going to have Sabbath continue to be derogatory about someone that couldn’t even defend themselves. Not that Noah seemed the person to do that…given what Roo had seen in their meeting. ”I actually spoke to Noah the morning after, Sir. And he, forgive me for assuming based on first conversation, but he didn’t seem to have the same idea of what happened as Sabbath here. And I actually believe him over… Sabbath. Who was a smug git and really did deserve the smacking of the face off a table.

”Seeing as he’s here, Sir.. The events I was talking about was the conversation I had with both boys. You see..I called a meeting with them, I wasn’t sure if that was okay.. But I didn’t like to see Noah in that way. My conclusion from that conversation is that..maybe Mister Giminez wouldn’t get himself into these situations if he wasn’t as rude as he is.” Oh ho.. And this was just the start of Rooney getting into things. Because he was just getting more and more annoyed by Sabbath’s annoying little face and everything about him.

He forgot???

How did you just forget something like that? Leo shook his head in equal disapproval and bafflement as Sabbath rolled out an explanation for why he had acted the way that he had done. He apparently had been provoked by another student and had felt the need to defend his girlfriend's honour. Inward sigh.

"Punching someone whether you are provoked or to defend someone you like very much never ever leads anywhere good Sabbath, and not to mention it's against school rules." Here he paused to let it all sink in.

"I highly advise you to seek the assistance of a school prefect or a member of staff the next time you feel like punching someone. Use your words but not bad words and most of all don't just punch! Resorting to violence as an outlet for anger never ever solves anything." Leo lectured.

"Did you bother to try and find out from your girlfriend if Noah indeed made her cry before you punched him or did you just punch him out of jealousy?" Had Sabbath gotten all the facts before he acted Leo wondered or had it all been on impulse?

Looking back at his house prefect he said since Rooney had chosen to interject in his conversation with Sabbath to provide some extra information. "You did the right in stepping in and talking to both Sabbath and Noah about the incident Rooney even if it wasn't really solved and you got to hear conflicting stories of what happend. You acted like all prefect and student leaders should do when they witness or get involved in an incident. You should wear your badge with pride not hide it away in a pocket." Leo complimented with warmth.

Turning to Sabbath again Leo asked. "Is it true what Rooney said are you rude to your peers Sabbath?"

Sabbath looked up at Mr Kitridge, ready to serve him what he knew he wanted to hear, “Firstly Sir, I want to make it clear that I didn’t punch Noah, it was really just a little bit of a push. Now I do understand that that is against school rules, so I will take your advice, Sir, the next time I feel like punching someone I will certainly seek out a prefect", he said with a smile as his eyes shifting to Rooney.

He continued his explanation “Believe me, Sir. Its not the first time Noelle has been in tears because of Noah, I had little doubt about what was the cause. I definitely needed to step in." he said, punctuating his statement with a nod.

"Its certainly not true what Prefect Bronwyn said about me being a rude person. In fact, I think most people would say I have impeccable manners. I mean, I was only speaking with Miss Kettleburn the other night and she did say that she thought my manners were charming” he said with a grin, loud enough to ensure Rooney overheard her name. But really, you could ask anyone, Miss Valentine, Miss Kennedy, Miss Burton for example, Im sure they’d all tell you I’m far from rude.

"I also think that it is reasonable to suggest that, being a friend of Noah’s, Prefect Bronwyn has particularly biased view of me, Sir." he ended, looking up at Mr Kitridge again.

Rooney nodded about wearing his badge with pride and felt a little bad that he hadn't been before now. It had been a huge important thing for him when he had got it and now he was certain that Mr Kitridge thought he didn't want it. When it was all that he wanted. "Yessir." At least his Head of House had said it was a good thing that he had called the meeting he had. It did a lot to make him feel much better about it all, especially after he had walked out of the meeting himself. Of course, Roo did expect Sabbath to insist that he wasn't rude at all, and it wasn't fair for him to scoff if he didn't believe him. But oh ho, he did.

Rooney Bronwyn was a scoffer. And Sabbath talked a lot for someone who said nothing.

"Saying it was a little bit of a push doesn't excuse the fact he has a bruise on his face." And...if he did, then maybe he really was the one that needed a punch to the face. Not that Rooney would be able to give it himself, but he would probably suggest that Noah did it. Under the radar. So much so that it wouldn't come back to hi-- Miss Charlotte. No. Who was this little... "Unfortunately, Sabbath... The opinions of a girl I know do not affect my own opinions. Therefore, I still find you relatively rude." And just because he was kissing Char on a frequent basis, that didn't say he changed what he thought of people for her. Hell, he was struggling enough to try and be nice to people she liked.

And Sabbath was not one of them. Nuh uh.

"Manners don't mean you're not rude. I could tell you to shut up, and it would still be rude if I said please afterwards. Redundant point made." Much like any point that the kid made. Any and every point, actually. All of the points he made were utterly redundant. Utterly. "Noah and I aren't actually friends, Sir." Not yet.

Finally.. Finally.. some tears were making their way down her cheeks..
The moment the girl admitted that she hadn't been to see the healer, the headmaster's eyebrow rose. In his mind, he could not help but wonder why the healer had not been visited already. Sahnoun did not question her on this. Instead he simply nodded his head when she stated that she would pay her a visit. "Very good," he quietly commented before remaining silent while the librarian and Ravenclaw carried conversation.

While they spoke, the African nodded his head at Leo's words to show to Azura that the man was certainly right. All of the staff, himself included, were all there to help her and understood that these were troubling times. "Dat is correct," the man said, confirming that she was welcome to stop by his office whenever she needed, while also taking the tea Leo had to offer him. He gave the man a courteous nod before looking back at Azura.

She had chest pains and she wasn't sleeping well? The headmaster couldn't help but feel sorry for her. He took a sip of his tea and nodded at the mention of Arthur; both he and Cece would be able to help her in that regard. As for the matter of the school's safety... "Dahling, you can rest assured that da school has top-notch security. Dere are numerous charms to keep da unwanted from getting in, and da staff and prefects do regular patrols of the school. Dere is nothing to worry about here."

His heart sank when the subject of who her legal guardian would be. Surely her aunt, the woman who had done so much for her already? Sahnoun opening his mouth to speak words of comfort, but he then saw the tears come down Azura's face. Quickly, he pulled out a handkerchief from an inside pocket of his robes and handed it over to the young one.

Sabbath narrowed his eyes at Rooney, and retorted with a shrug "I didn't make that bruise on his face, he just bumped his face on the table. You're entitled to your opinions Rooney, but to be frank, Miss Kettleburn's opinions of me are much more interesting than yours". "I trust she liked the flowers I sent her?" he asked with a cheeky smile "They were her favourites, afterall.. peonies.. but, of course, you would know that". He watched Rooney's expression, maintaining his smug smile, and wondering, yet again, how Lotti could stand to kiss this dufus.

He turned to Mr Kitridge, warming his smile "I do apologise, Sir, for any distress I may have caused to anyone. I'll be sure think twice before I act next time.

"It was a unique name you given your owl. It shows that you love it.
" Leo commented slowly. He had heard many owl names over the years but not one had been called like Haddie's owl. Every owner named their pets something unique. That made their pet theirs, just like how Leo had named his kneazle Madonna.

At least he had managed to get Hadley to see his point of view about the clothes even if Leo doubted that she'd follow his recommendation to the letter and actually wear the full uniform even out of classes. Hadley did what she did. Hopefully she wouldn't lose points over it.

"Good, I'll hold you to that promise Hadley." Leo said. She'd understand when she was older and learned to love and accept herself more. What other people thought mattered but it shouldn't be everything. She had to find herself to understand and that was a journey only Hadley can take. Shaking his head Leo said "No I think that was all. Unless you have something else on your mind? You are free to leave and go do what you want now Hadley whether it is spending time with your friends or studying." He'd take up where he had left off even if he wasn't exactly sure what he had been doing before Haddie's arrival anymore. It'd come to him when he was alone again.

He had never quite understood why but Cece had gotten a stamp among the students that she was scary and unapproachable. Which was ridiculous since the healer was who you went to first if you were sick or injured. Softly Leo said meeting Azura's gaze over the rim of his own cup of tea that he had just poured for himself. "I can come with you to see the healer if you want Azura?" If it helped, he'd go with her.

It really pained him to see Azura whimper and talk about how she had held back tears when she had been around her peers. The poor girl had held back the tears so much that it was hard to let them just flow out now. Leaning forward to pat Azura's hand he said reassuringly "I'll go see Professor Newton about potions right after we end the meeting. You need to be able to sleep well. Sleep brings healing too." Poor girl. She really didn't have it easy. Leo sip his tea as Headmaster Mo interjected in the conversation to assure that the school was safe. Nodding in agreement he said eyes on Azura. "Hogwarts is the safest place in Britain. Vampires can't get in." There was absolutely nothing to worry about.

Feeling his heart sink just little more at Azura's words Leo did his best to reassure firmly. "That won't happen Azura. They both want you. Never think that they don't. I'm sure you'll get to live with your aunt since she has already been taking care of you." He was going to look into the matter.

At least his Head of House had said it was a good thing that he had called the meeting he had.

Sabbath..

He felt like the third year was Hadley times two. He certainly had a quick mouth like her but not even Haddie got the idea of punching someone and then trying to sweet talk her way out of taking responsibility for her actions. Youngsters these days.

Catching Sabbath's eye Leo folded his hands together as he spoke in quiet but firm tone. "Noah isn't here to give his side of the story, but from what I've gleamed from your version of the events Sabbath, and Prefect Brownyns version then you know that you did act wrongly at the feast. You need to take responsibility for your actions by first apologizing to Prefect Brownyn and then also to Mr Diggory."

"I also urge to consider how you address and act around your peers. If you don't start thinking before you speak Sabbath then I fear that someone sooner or later will punch you in the face for your attitude. You need to start showing your peers and the staff the respect and consideration they deserve." Leo continued.

"As for your girlfriend Ms Noelle, was it? You owe her an apology too. You do not have the right to dictate who she is friends with. If she wants to be friends with Noah then it's between them. Is that understood?" Leo asked finally ending his little lecture. If Sabbath wanted to keep being Noelle's boyfriend then he couldn't be super jelaous around her friends. It'd just backfire on him.

Hadley smiled but didn't say anything. She did love Wimple. And Asher. That was no secret. She could have told him that she didn't pick out the name so much as gleam it from the owl himself, but honestly, it was getting to be easier to let people assume she named things.

She shook her head. "No. Nothing on my mind. Thanks again, sir." She got up, took one more look around Mr. Kitridge's office. It still wasn't what she expected of the man. "And thanks again for the birthday cake." With that, Hadley Denaker left the office.

Sabbath watched Mr Kitridge’s face impassively as he doled out his diatribe of advice. “You are mistaken, Sir, I don’t believe I acted wrongly at the feast and I’m not going to apologise to Noah or Rooney, not NOW, not EVER!” He punched out the words, narrowing his eyes in defiance. It would be a cold day in hell before that was going to happen!

”...and as for Noelle, I don’t know what you’ve been told but, I’m doing her a favour to ward her off Noah, he’s a nothing but a... nothing but a... gilipollas!”, he said throwing his hands up, annoyed that his English had failed him when he was angry. "but in the end, the choice is hers” "... Sir", the latter added coldly as an afterthought.

He’d always had a soft spot for his house leader, but Mr Kitridge definitely was not his favourite teacher right now.

It was lucky that Professor Kitridge was there, because as he had said...sooner or later, someone was going to punch Sabbath in the face for his attitude. And today, it was very close to being this Ravenclaw. Rooney took a deep breath, pursed his lips and stuffed his hands into his pockets tp disguise the fact they had balled into fists and were very close to being let rip at the third year. How was he going to word this...without being the bully?

With dignity, that was how. "Unfortunately for you, Sabbath.. The opinions of Miss Charlotte Kettleburn have very little impact on my opinions of people. We have different experiences with them." Like Blaise. And Sabbath, now. Clearly. Hm. It wasn't that Roo was upset about the flowers or whatever was happening between the two..but he was upset that Char hadn't been the one to tell him.

"However, isn't your girlfriend one of Charlotte's dorm mates? Shouldn't you consider the problems correlating with giving her friends their favourite flowers?" A smirk was developing on the prefect's face, but quickly formed into a grin as he continued to speak. "I wouldn't want you to get punched in the face by a girl for being an idiot." Because he was an idiot.
