Muggle Studies One: Old School Animation

Professor Stewart is already present in the classroom when you arrive. She is waiting eagerly by the classroom’s door to greet each of her students as usual. She hopes that you’re wide awake this bright, sunny morning and are ready for the exciting lesson. After entering the room, you are to take your seat on one of the comfortable chairs with the desks attached to it. The desks are divided into two groups, one group on the left and one on the right so that there is a path in the middle of the room. This path will direct your attention to the laptop sitting on a small table at the back with a projector hooked up to it. Please do not trouble it, even though some of you may be curious. All will be revealed soon enough.

Take a moment to relax, get your writing apparatus ready and maybe even try to figure out what today’s lesson is all about though there are no clues about this. Class will begin shortly.

OOC: HIHIHI, guys! Welcome to the first OOC MS lesson! Class will begin in about 24 hours! Please familiarise yourself with Kay’s rules before posting and also, kindly keep chatting to a minimum. Thanks! <3 Class has begun!

CLASS PROGRESSION:
1. Name one of the characters & what do the five have in common?
2. Why do/did you watch animated shows or why did you never watch any?
3. Hand Drawn or Computer animation? Why?
4. Activity time!
5. Jaemin, Juno, Echo & OOC question for you all!
6. End of class!

Time to learn about the Muggle things. And try not to miss Ms Moxley too much. Focus on Professor Stewart. Because rawwr. Yes distract yourself with that curly top.

"Hey Professor how are y-- ooohhh!!" the Gryffindor began to greet her when he was IMMEDIATELY distracted by the contraption at the back of the room. Buzz around it like a moth to the light he was. A laptop and a projector circa Harry Potter! Of course this Gryffinclaw will be all over it.

So tempting to tooooooooouuuuch.....

Teach and Tenacius

Hadley Denaker entered the classroom, early for once, still sucking the syrup off her fingers from the morning's pancakes. It was a small thing, but easily conjured images of when she'd be a seven year old for anyone that saw her then.

Speaking of which, Hadley put it off too long already.

She dropped her bag at a desk near the back of the middle row on the right and made her way to the front. "Uh, look, Professor Stewart," 'Kay! She paused a moment, watching Salamander inspect the laptop from every angle. Wizard-borns. "I just wanted to say sorry for bursting into your office a few weeks ago. You know, when I was seven...Salamander, what are you doing?" She couldn't help it, the boy was distracting her.

Sometimes she thought she kept her seven year old attention span after being cured...

SarcasticStrawberry 05-15-2016 05:46 PM

As per usual Katerina skipped to her lessons. Muggle studies had to be one of her favorite subjects right behind herbology, defense against the dark arts and charms of course. Anyway, the second year, wondered into the classroom.

Looking around she noticed that she could take either a left side or a right side. Mmmm she thought about it for a millisecond, before her blue eyes noticed something else. A laptop, she walked closer to it and stop. Look but don't touch, Katerina. She walked around the table carefully. "Hello professor Stewart. How's your day?"

Choosing the left side the blonde took the closest seat to the professor on that side. She settled into the chair, crossing her legs indian style into the desk. She liked being small enough to sit that way in seats.

MunchyBubbles 05-15-2016 06:15 PM

Azura walked into class with a wide albeit fake smile on her face. The early morning didn't bother her, she didn't sleep much last night anyways and ended up in the common room working on her homework and a song she had been writing for Noah..

If she looked pale or if there were dark circles beneath her dull purple eyes.. Azura wasn't paying attention to them. Her Raven hair was pulled back neatly into a bun.

"Good Morning Professor Stewart."" She said in a bright voice as she looked around and then headed for the right side of the room. She saw Haddie talking to Tenacius and she waved at them both before taking her seat. She sank back into the comfy chair for a moment before she pulled out her Emerald Green Quill and some parchment. There, she was prepared now. Ready to be a good student and prove to the world that she was fine!

Hopefully the Professor didn't know.

StarShine 05-15-2016 06:41 PM

Katherine took permission from Professor Moxley last year to attend Muggle Studies even though she was just a second year, and she didn't see the necessity to ask Professor Stewart again. If she didn't want her there, she would leave alright. But of course she was completely awake that morning as she always was for classes. She entered, nodded at the students there and sat at one of the left-front desks.

Was that a projector?

Yeah, she had read even the electives over the summer.

Muggle Studies was Kitty's favorite subject at Hogwarts. One of the reason was that she knew muggles in real life and found them simply adorable, and another was that there was never any danger when it came to studying muggles. Also, she was liking the new professor. So Kitty was in a cheerful mood as she made her way to the muggle studies classroom that bright and sunny morning.

"Good morning Professor Stewart." Kitty smiled pleasantly at the professor before making her way to the left side of the room. She waved to her Ravenclaw friends Haddie (back to her proper age) and Azura (who was starting to look as pale as Kitty) before sitting at a seat in the front row a few seats away from Katherine.

Her eyes sparkled when she noticed the laptop. "Ooh professor, is there internet here?"

PhoenixRising 05-15-2016 07:32 PM

*flails* x3 We're here, for who knows how long, only time will tell!

One GOOD thing over Muggle Studies lessons was that they were only on the first floor. Which meant Sky could practically roll out of bed and make it to class on time, instead of having to climb five bajillion flights of stairs. And having the stress of the staircase MOVING on you generally right where you wanted it to go and thus having to recalculate your route. Stress. Honestly, whoever designed the Hogwarts castle was desperate keep students physically fit.

Not that any of it was a concern for the first year today, as she only had to climb two flights of stairs to make it from the dungeons. She did feel SLIGHTLY bad for the Gryffindors and the Ravenclaws who had to come down from their towers.

Entering the classroom, again Sky was faced with the decision over where to sit. Choosing again to sit somewhere in the middle ... second or third row from the front, because she didn't want to seem to eager, but didn't want to seem like a slacker either.

"Morning Professor," Sky greeted politely. Another good thing about this class was that the professor was also a new face to Hogwarts (at least in terms of recent years. Whether or not she attended as a student would have meant she hadn't been there in awhile)

ChanceCoeur 05-15-2016 08:06 PM

Muggle studies.
Why did you have to be so early?? Early meant that Noelle had to wake up even earlier to do some training before class. She was already tired and it was only the first class of the day.

Noelle stretched her aching muscles as she walked into class. At least muggles studies was going to be an easier class since she was half blood. Or so she hoped.

Noelle looked around at who all was in here. She noticed that the class was divided. She saw Tenacious and Hads. Then Kitty and Katherine. Oh and Sky. Hmm. She should probably steer clear of her just in case Noahs hatred for her had been passed on. Noelle sat on the other side of the classroom and made herself comfortable.

She got her desk ready and smiled at the professor and... Oh a laptop!! She loved those things.

DaniDiNardo 05-15-2016 08:54 PM

Muggle Studies. Again. Ugh. As if the feast back in September hadn't been enough of a slap to the face, now he had to see the woman that wasn't Moxley every time he came to what used to be his favourite lesson. It's what he got, he supposed. The Third Year should have known there was no such thing as a subject you could love in a place like Hogwarts. The castle ALWAYS found a way of messing everything up, always. It was no wonder the boy never looked pleased to be here and this morning was no different.

Had Professor Airey not already had him on a watch list for his tendency to...not attend lessons, he might have added this one to said list. There was still time he supposed.

Professor Stewart received the usual grumble of greeting from him as he walked by her with his quick quotes quill and notepad floating in tow.

Inside the room, Blaise didn't take much of a look around. It was never that he'd liked Muggle Studies, but that it had his favourite Professor and didn't require him to use magic. Consequently, the contraception sending light to the front of the room? It didn't matter to him what it was.

The boy slumped into his seat at the back, his reluctance at yet another of these lessons quite evident.

Grrr..Meow 05-15-2016 08:55 PM

One of her favorite classes were about to start and she was really excited, hopping into the class room she noticed that there were two sets of desks and not to mention a laptop. ohhh are they going to be learning about this today, if they were Echo knew a lot about it.

"Hi professor" she waved as well

Finding a seat kind of hear the wall she took our her parchment paper and quill out of her bag then she had to fish on the bottom of her bag for her ink. she had to remind herself that she needed to buy inkless quills. "maybe i'll owl mom and dad to send me a few" she thought while writing her name and date on the top of her page.

itsjustjesse 05-15-2016 09:03 PM

Melbourne Johanson ran all the way to the muggle studies classroom. Somehow she had managed to get to the fifth floor classroom in time…why had she run down to grab food before the class? It probably wasn’t her wisest decision with the time crunch and everything…not to mention…Running. She’d need to ask older girls HOW they did it without being all ugh.

Yep.

That potions class had made her feel…a little awkward about how she would end up being. Even now after taking the anti-potion the second year Gryffindor was bundled up in an absurd amount of bulky way too large for her sweaters. They were so large in fact that the sleeves hung down every time she moved her arm. It was as if they were sized to be a dress…in fact there was a chance that she had simply charmed her own uniform sweater to be bigger…stretchier. So stretchy that she could tuck her knees up under the sweater and not show off any of her legs or feet to the world as she did so.

The Gryffindor second year waved over to Hadley, Tenacius, and Kat…and that was when she saw Azura and gave her a smile. She was going to be fine. Azura was a trooper obviously…and if not Mel’d help make some potion to make people think she was happier than she was.

She was a good friend like that…oooooh Kitty! Mel waved over to the Ravenclaw girls, and even gave Katherine Moss a nod and wave. Noelle of course got a grin as well and a wait…were these computers and and projectors? Were they watching a movie? Or learning about the internet or something awesome like that? The Gryffindor girl grinned up at Professor Stewart. “Hello Professor Stewart….” She smiled over to the Professor before pointing her wand at her sweater and muttering the counter spell that she had simply cast to be able to run easily.

There.

She looked like a well-dressed student…It was still lumpy but that was because of the unfortunate mounds of flesh that were sadly stretching it out. Darn it. Shifting she sat down with a thump near Hadley and Tenacius. “Hey…” she smiled as she picked up the laptop on her desk and hugged it to her before putting it down. Yep.

Totally a sane reaction to seeing muggle tech.

Cassirin 05-15-2016 09:03 PM

Muggle Studies would NOT be the same without Moxley, just like the school wouldn't be the same without that cheerful, intelligent woman leading them. Just like the classroom would be bland and boring without the fabulously weird costumes Moxley used to dream up.

But she wasn't going to toss the new professor out the door completely... yet. She had a chance to win Dot over.

"Good day to you, Professor," Dot smiled politely and nodded at the professor before taking a seat. She also gave Blaise a ruffle to his hair and Ace a wink. Gotta keep her ickles close.

Deezerz 05-15-2016 09:04 PM

As he made his way towards Muggle Studies, Cornelius busied himself with attempting to fix his tie. His tongue was stuck between his lips as he tried to concentrate. With no avail he slumped him shoulders as he arrived at the door of Muggle Studies. His bottom lip stuck out as he glanced up at Professor Stewart.

"Hullo," he smiled through his spoiled-boy pout. Life was hard, okay? "I seem to have a problem." He lifted his tie. "It won't let me tie it properly and rules are that I have to be properly dressed in your class and I don't want to lose points. Could you help me, please?" Or let him go into the classroom without point deduction.

WHAT A PLEASANT DAY IT WAS TODAY!

Rooney burst through the door into the Muggle Studies classroom with a grin. "Goooooood morning BallltiMOOOOOOOOOOREEEE!" Kind of. They were in Hogwarts. Which was in Scotland. Which...he guessed could be his Baltimore. For now! IT DIDN'T EVEN MATTER. Rooney Bronwyn was on cloud nine and no questions about that could bring his mood down. HE had an audition this Christmas. He had a fantastic opportunity for the next summer and it was THE BEST. Something he had wanted for a very, very long time.

Noticed.

Noticed by a GREAT place for GREAT people who thought that HE WAS GREAT TOO.

"Hello to you too, Professor Stewart. You're looooking lovely!" Nothing more to say, Roo winked and found his way to a seat and continued to hum his song, tapping his foot in time.

Swoooooooooooooning at life.

SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON.

Daydreamer11 05-15-2016 11:13 PM

Janelle arrived at Muggle Studies class ready for whatever. At least she hoped she'd be ready. As she entered the classroom, she offered a cheerful greeting. "Hello Professor Stewart", she said, before proceeding to the nearest empty desk.

Plopping down in the seat, Janelle reached for her backpack and pulled out her notebook and pen. She felt like she was back in Muggle school again, for a quick moment. Putting that thought aside, Janelle leaned back and stretched out her legs. Might as well get comfortable while she waited for class to begin. In the meantime, she wondered what the professor had in store for them today. Spotting the laptop and the projector, her curiosity was really piqued. She'd just have to be patient and wait to find out.

WhittyBitty 05-16-2016 12:33 AM

Muggle Studies wouldn't be the same without Professor Moxley, but that didn't mean that Esme wasn't going to give the new teacher a chance. This woman had big shoes to fill and the Hufflepuff was confident that she would do a good job of it.

"Hello, Professor Stewart." Yes, she saw the projector and no it didn't cause any reaction in her. Not like Esme was foreign to muggle objects or anything. Maybe they were going to watch a movie today and that was something she was more than fine with. As it was, she waved to her friends and took a seat before pulling out everything that she needed for the lesson.

Danielle_Daughn 05-16-2016 02:47 AM

This was one class that Evie was glad for, everything here would be her "normal". As she approached the classroom she saw the professor by the door. "Hello Professor, what a wonderful day!" She grinned up at the woman as she walked by. Entering the classroom she was pleased to see school desks and Was that a laptop?!?! Could she check her emails? What if her dad had been trying to contact her?" She decided to ask after class about that. She took a seat near the back beside the laptop and projector, finding comfort in the hum of the machines. Pulling out paper and an ink pen from her father's bank she sat back and waited on class to begin.

littledhampir 05-16-2016 03:01 AM

Olly had almost forgotten that Moxley was gone. He didn't usually see her very often of course, but she was always around for lessons. Except this year she wasn't. He was more bummed about it than he'd expected to be. It wasn't like they were very close after all, but he did like her. She was a good professor. Of course this professor was probably very good as well but she wasn't Moxley.

Olly entered the room quietly and looked around. He glanced up at not Moxley for a moment before his attention was caught by the decor. Those were computers, he knew what they were. He'd never really used one because he was a wizard after all, but one of his dads was muggleborn so he understood the basics. He took a seat close to Dot, because he hadn't seen her much this term and he missed her. And if he had any trouble he was confident she'd be able to help.

LilFox06 05-16-2016 03:08 AM

Muggle studies was always interesting. Usually because it meant food or candy or something exciting. After OWLs last term, Kaycee really craved something low key.

She hoped this Professor would be able to provide that.

"Hello Professor." she greeted before taking a seat. Bring on the knowledge.

Symphora 05-16-2016 03:35 AM

Oooohh....its MUGGLING TIME!

Henric entered the classroom with a smile on his face. Of course, he didn't forget to fix his tie, with his hair combed sleekly to one side and his badge polished and ready to shine! Not bad, hmm? The Headboy must looked exemplary for the young ones to follow suit. It wouldn't do if he was dressed sloppily. "Good morning Professor Stewart, lovely to see you." As much as he would miss Professor Moxley's lesson, he wasn't at all complaining. The new professor was quite a looker, and had and attractive smile too. Hopefully, he would enjoy her lesson very much.

Alright, time to find a seat! Now... which side would he choose today? Left or right? Hmm. Shrugging, he chose the one he would like to seat. At the very back, on the left near the windows. He noticed the projector running... and a laptop beside it, nothing unusual there. Were they going to watch a movie or documentaries perhaps?

marshmallowXpie 05-16-2016 04:48 AM

Worried that she had arrived late as she saw half the seats filled up, Clara panicked and checked her wristwatch, only to find that she was still over ten minutes early. Breathing a sigh of relief, she scanned the room for an open spot.

Muggle Studies had always been one of her favorite courses, even though she did have one muggle parent. However, learning about the perception of muggles through the eyes of wizards had to be one of the most fascinating things Clara had ever known.

Many eyes were goggling at the projector and laptop in the room, but she didn't take much notice, to be honest. It was pretty common in her home, and throughout primary school. Seeing a spare seat in the corner of the front row on the left side, Clara excuse-me'd her way through a few other students and sat down. Taking her writing instruments and parchment out, she shifted her focus to the professor at the front of the classroom, eagerly waiting for class to begin.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-16-2016 05:19 AM

Fiyero leaned on the railing at the bottom of the stairs, huffing and puffing to catch his breath. Why did the Muggle Studies classroom have to be so far from Gryffindor Tower?! He could've spared himself the trouble by dropping the subject - He was a halfblood, after all. He'd spent the first eleven years of his life in the Muggle world with his father's side of the family, but he thought maybe taking this class would help him understand why his father hated the wizarding world so much.

He stood up a little straighter, running a hand through his blond hair as he saw Professor Stewart standing in the doorway. "Hello, Professor," he greeted her, smiling warmly as he straightened his tie. He didn't see why it mattered if his tie was a little crooked, but Professor Stewart seemed like a stickler for appearances... and he didn't want to lose any of the points he'd earned in Herbology.

Fiyero took a seat in one of the middle rows on the left side of the room, taking out a quill and a few sheets of parchment. As he glanced behind him, he saw a laptop sitting on a table. It kinda looked like the one Grandpa Jones used... except older, a lot older. Wait, what was that thing?!

Fiyero did a double take as he noticed the large contraption hooked up to the laptop. He'd definitely never seen one of those before! He got up to take a closer look - hey, Professor Stewart said not to trouble it; she didn't say anything about looking at it. He examined the strange object from all angles, taking special care not to bump the table. It almost looked like a camera...

Hmm, maybe we're learning about Muggle technology, Fiyero thought as he returned to his seat.

Suziella 05-16-2016 06:15 AM

Juno walked quietly into the room, noting where her twin sister was sitting before greeting the professor. She put on a sleepy smile, "Morning Professor." This new professor looked like she was going to be really cool.

She quietly walked over to her sister and sat down. "Hey Es," She said quietly before pulling out all the supplies she would need for the lesson. She also noticed the laptop at the back of the room, and started to wonder what they would be doing today.

Stefan 05-16-2016 06:27 AM

Sitting next to Azura and Katherine. Hello, hi!

Muggle Studies, surprisingly, isn't such a boring subject even if he was mostly brought up in a muggle environment. It was always a joy to learn from his classmates who were brought up in the wizarding community-- and see how fascinated...and curious they get if the subject is exciting enough to pique their interest.

Tugging down his Ravenclaw tie, Jace walked briskly towards the Muggle Studies classroom, and stopped to face the woman at the door. "Ohayo gozaimasu, Stewart-sensei." he said bowing politely and grinned at the former Ravenclaw.

With a grin, he showed himself inside the classroom, and immediately took a seat with Azura and Katherine. "Ohayo..." he said to both girls as he got his notebook and muggle pen out. "Are we going to watch a movie?" he asked eyeing the laptop and projector up front.

Hmm.

SilverTiger 05-16-2016 07:00 AM

If anything, Brooklyn figured that no one could say she didn’t give the new professors a chance. Granted, it was all to determine if they respected her and therefore deserved her respect, but she still was open to trying their lessons. She reserved the choice to give them up if she decided she didn’t like them, after all. So far, she hadn’t had any complaints. Not that she’d felt like she’d have problems with Muggle Studies anyhow, just due to her background. There didn’t seem to be any bubble wrap or other odd items in the classroom as she’d entered, either. It was promising.

“Good morning, Professor Stewart,” she said politely, giving the woman a faint smile as she made her way to an open seat on the left hand side of the room. She wasn’t avoiding anyone t the moment, so that made seat selections easier. Nor was she particularly interested in the laptop and projector on display. She’d find out why they wert her soon enough.

Steelsheen 05-16-2016 08:11 AM

Salamander -- yep that’s Haddie "Ey there Denaker!" he greeted his Ravenclaw buddy. "Havent seen one of these since Dad took me to the Smithsonian." he chuckled. He knew how projection works-- they have their own magical (and more efficient) equivalent. The Muggle variety though, very amusing in its old-skool charm.

And back atcha for the others who greeted him too-- Azura, Noelle, and of course a wink back at Prefect Dot with the red red hair. And of course Mel. "Mellybean whaddup?" Other than what you're trying to hide with your oversized sweaters? Man if he could just say that out loud-- he'd never live long enough to grow out that ugly hair lol.

Someone asked if there was internet on this thing. "Uhm… lets see if its connected to a network…. And what that network is connected to." Curiously looks the Professor. Do they even have Hogwarts LAN?

itsjustjesse 05-16-2016 08:59 AM

Melbourne grinned to herself as she looked around the room. “…was that one of the trips I stowed away on?” Melbourne asked leaning over closer toward Hads and Ace. “I used to do that y’know when I lived with my brother…he never was able to go on trips so I always snuck on the Salander’s trips…” it was the truth. She was basically their little stowaway…maybe that was what they called her? The Stowaway.

THE STOWAWAYS! That was what she would have to call her band if she ever were to start one. Pulling her little journal out of her pocket she jotted down the new addition to the list of band and future story names down before looking back up at Ace…”Mellybean?” She grinned.

“I like it.” Because she did, she was one of those girls that enjoyed new nicknames…especially from childhood friends. “Eh…I –“ wait…she furrowed her brows at him almost daring him to make the comment he was itching to say. It was almost obvious what with him looking at the sweater. “wha…er whats up with you?”

Curses.

She still managed to sound lame, lamer than hell.

Lady Marmalade 05-16-2016 10:33 AM

Bella always enjoyed Muggles Studies and couldn't wait to see what they would be learning about today. She already knew a good amount about the muggle world, mostly from reading, but actually seeing and touching certain things was a different story.

"Hello Professor Stewart." She greeted with a polite smile, before moving to find a seat. Her attention was immediately drawn to the laptop and projector in the back of the room. "Oh oh... I’ve seen that thingy before." Bella was tempted to get a closer look, but decided it was probably best if she didn't. She took a seat instead and prepared for class to start.

Excellent! Her first student for today’s lesson had arrived. He seemed very much awake which pleased Kay greatly. “Hello, Mr Salander! I am quite well, thank you for asking. I trust that you are as well?’’ A wide smile graced her lips as she watched the young man get roped in the attention of the laptop and projector. “Just reminder not to touch,’’ she called to him. He may look as much as he liked.

Not even a greeting from this one when she arrived. Kay stood silently watching her, giving Haddie a chance to remedy what seemed like rudeness. She was right to do that. Oh? An apology? The Professor had not been expecting that because she thought there was no reason for Haddie to apologise. “Ms, Denaker, your apology is accepted. From what I understood, it was simply a Potion gone wrong. It happens to the best of us.’’ She smiled. “I found seven year old Hadley quite fun,’’ she added, her eyes twinkling.

Here came a Hufflepuff! She too seemed full of energy and ready to learn. “Hello, Ms Delgado! It’s going quite fine so far.’’ She smiled as she watched the girl cross her legs in the chair. Kay didn’t mind. She liked her students to be comfortable as long as they don’t go over the edge with things. So, she had a Gryffindor, a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff so far. Would there be a Slytherin next?

No, another Ravenclaw came in next. There was nothing wrong with that. A Slytherin would arrive soon. “Good morning, Ms Kennedy! How are you?’’ She was concerned about this one and made a mental note to speak to Leo again to ensure that Azura was coping well. The pale skin and circles under the girl’s eyes were something Kay didn’t like seeing on such a young, pretty girl. She entered, nodded at the students there and sat at one of the left-front desks.

Was that a projector?

Yeah, she had read even the electives over the summer.

Here was another face Kay knew quite well. She smiled and returned the nod to Ms Moss. Not much of a talker the girl seemed to be this morning. Kay did hope that she would participate verbally in the lesson. On the bright side, Katherine did seem awake.

It seemed all the Ravenclaws were just eager for their lessons. Kay smiled as Kitty appeared. “Good morning, Kitty!’’ Wasn’t it just wonderful how the students would acknowledge their friends’ presence? Kay loved that about them. Her eyes found Kitty and she smiled again. She knew that the Ravenclaw was very familiar with muggles. “Not in the classroom but if you’d like to use the internet, I suggest you visit the Fun Room.’’ For now she had limited the access to her office and the Fun Room.

Kay thought her class would be deprived of any Slytherins but here came the very first one; a first year. It was always so nice to see the younger ones making the effort to get to classes. “Good morning, Ms Diggory!’’

Kay had her eyes on Noelle as the Gryffindor approached the class stretching. Surely the girl hadn’t only just woken up. She would keep an eye on her to see if she fell asleep during class. For now, she returned the smile. Hello there, Ms Summers.

Oh dear. Here came Mr Bellaire looking unhappy to be here as usual. This attitude from him disappointed her but she didn’t blame him. Kay knew he missed Meredith Moxley. “Good morning, Mr Bellaire!’’ she said brightly in reply to his grumble. “Please remember that you are to use only pens and pencils.’’

This fifth year came in with quite a lot of energy. This pleased Kay. “Hello, Ms Duchaness!’’ She shook her head when she saw Echo pull out a quill. She knew the students were accustomed to using quills for every other lesson so she didn’t mind giving them a reminder. “Pens or pencils only, please.’’

Melbourne got a look of curiosity from Kay. Why was she wrapped in so many sweaters? “Hello, Ms Johanson. Is everything okay?’’ Even as she spoke, the Gryffindor returned her sweater back to normal, now looking very neat in appearance. She also trusted that there would be no more use of magic in the class.

“Good day, Ms Wojack-Gusey!’’ Kay greeted one of the Slytherin prefects. Such a polite one she was. Kay smiled to herself as she saw Dot affectionately greet two younger ones. It was always great when the older ones were fond of them.

"It won't let me tie it properly and rules are that I have to be properly dressed in your class and I don't want to lose points. Could you help me, please?" Kay couldn’t help but smile when she saw Cornelius approaching and trying to fix his tie at the same time. “Quite right you are about the rules, dear.’’ She found his poutiness so adorable and she readily took up the little challenge to help him out. “Let’s fix this stubborn tie so that its owner can look really smart and handsome.’’ Kay leaned closer to him and carefully did the motions knot the fabric. When she was done, she adjusted Cornelius’s shirt collar neatly around the tie. “There you are, Mr Baltazar. There is definitely no chance of you loosing points now.’’

Which...he guessed could be his Baltimore. For now! IT DIDN'T EVEN MATTER. Rooney Bronwyn was on cloud nine and no questions about that could bring his mood down. HE had an audition this Christmas.

Kay jumped a foot in the air at the loud greeting the entire classroom received from Rooney. She had not been expecting it, alright? “Mr Bronwyn! Good morning to you!’’ Ehem. She tried to regain her calm composure. No one noticed that embarrassing moment, did they? Even if they did they were not allowed to speak of it. But wasn’t Rooney just a sweetheart? “Thank you, dear. That was quite an entrance there.’’ Except for her jumping, she liked the enthusiasm of the greeting.

One half of the Darcy twins had arrived. Was it Esme or Juno? Kay was yet to learn to differentiate the two. The good thing was that she called her students by their surnames so no one would know she couldn’t tell the difference. “Hello, Ms Darcy!’’

Pulling out paper and an ink pen from her father's bank she sat back and waited on class to begin.

Speaking of student leaders, here came the Head Boy. “Good morning, Mr Nicolei! Might I say you’re looking quite smart in that hairdo.’’ Kay approved of the extra neat appearance and even that gleam of the badge.

Another silent student but Kay greeted her with a cheerful smile, anyway. “You’re not late, Ms Simelanu,’’ she assured the girl, having noticed her checking her watch.

Didn’t it seem as though Fiyero looked tired? Kay couldn’t blame him. She reasoned he had trekked all the way from the Gryffindor Tower. “Hello, Mr Jones! Please take a seat to catch your breath.’’ A well rested student concentrated better in classes. “Please remember to use your pen or pencil.’’

With a grin, he showed himself inside the classroom, and immediately took a seat with Azura and Katherine. "Ohayo..." he said to both girls as he got his notebook and muggle pen out. "Are we going to watch a movie?" he asked eyeing the laptop and projector up front.

Ah, the little half Japanese Ravenclaw. Kay admired his manners; he was such a polite kid. She reserved the choice to give them up if she decided she didn’t like them, after all. So far, she hadn’t had any complaints. “There is no internet access here in the classroom but you’re welcome to check out the Fun Room.’’ She winked and moved to stand in front of her desk.

“Welcome to yet another Muggle Studies lesson! You must be wondering what today’s lesson will be all about. Well, I was thinking about going a bit back to our younger years. Maybe we wouldn’t even have to go back any years at all for some of you.’’
Her blue eyes twinkled in the general direction of the class. “Now, some of you may think that you are too old for what we’re about to talk about today but I must say I would disagree.’’

Kay gracefully walked towards the back of the room, waving her wand to temporarily close the windows so that the classroom was plunged into enough darkness so that the projector could be used. “For those of you who are not familiar with these apparatus, this here is a laptop computer and this is a projector.’’ She pointed at them both individually. “The projector does as the name says- projects images onto a surface. The images are stored on the laptop.’’ Kay powered on the two. “Now, I have five images here. I want each of you to name one and tell me what the five have in common.’’

A slide show began, putting pictures on the whiteboard at the front of the room. She allowed about ten seconds between each image so that the students could get a good look.

Hady had highly considered not attending this mornings lesson. It wasn't anything at all to do with the lesson itself or the fact that it was yet another new Professor teaching it. What it did have to do with was the fact that she was exhausted...so much so that she probably appeared ill to anyone that looked at her.

Yawning quietly into the crook of her arm as she entered the room she cast a very quick glance around only long enough to ensure that this room in fact had desks today. Nothing more mattered to her honestly as she made her way for the first empty seat after casting a small half-hearted smile in the direction of Professor Stewart. It wasn't her normal greeting but it was all that she could currently manage at the moment.

Slipping down onto the chair Hady silently took out her things for the lesson. The remainder of her time while she waited for the lesson to began was spent skimming the tip of her finger of the wings of one of the butterfly tattoos that had taken to fly across her skin and landing on the inside of her left wrist. Each time her finger brushed over the red and gold butterfly it's wings would flutter or it would fly in a small circle to land right back where it had been moments earlier.

The voice of the Professor barely caught her attention but slowly she lifted her eyes upwards towards the front of the room and the pictures that were being projected there due to the projector and laptop that happened to be in the room. Why she hadn't noticed them earlier she had no idea. What she did know was what each photo was being as she was mostly raised in a muggle home. Slowly her hand lifted into the air. "The first one is Pikachu he's from a show called Pokemon. All the photos are from old muggle cartoons," Hadleigh replied quietly barely above a whisper her hand dropping down the moment she spoke. She really didn't want to be here right now..would anyone notice if she went back to her dorm room?

PhoenixRising 05-16-2016 05:19 PM

Well the professor was definitely friendly enough, that was for sure. If Sky had to gesture a guess, the woman was likely a Hufflepuff if she even attended Hogwarts. Mostly because her parents were some of the friendliest and most cheerful people that she knew.

As she began, Sky tried hard to focus on the images displayed. Honestly, she didn't know too many of them, except for the one wearing orange rags that he called a shirt. Her brother probably knew more of them then she did, but she did know one thing about all of them in common.

"All of them are the stars of their own cartoons,"
Sky commented upon raising her hand. Even someone with little cartoon knowledge should recognize that much.

pundantic 05-16-2016 05:26 PM

Chloe knew a bit about one of those drawings from her comics. She didn't read Pokemon but she heard about it peripherally enough times to know that was Pikachu. Pikachem? Picka?

Something like that.

She rose her hand quickly and contributed, "One of them is a pokemon, I think." Did that mean the rest of the them were pokemon? Probably. That looked like the theme.

SPOILER!!: Jace and replies to Kay before class
Azura turned to look at Jace as he sat next to her and she gave him the barest of smiles. Truthfully she wanted to give him a hug and cry all over him, but she couldn't do that now! "Hi Jace." She whispered out to him, before turning back to her workstation..

Azura blinked a little as she stared at her desk,, something wasn't right!! The young Ravenclaw started to panic as she realized she hadn't pulled out a pen!! Or her notebook! She was furiously trying to put her parchment and quill away and was in the middle of pulling out a pen when she heard the teacher speak to her..

The flustered girl looked up at the teacher and nodded.. Trying to keep the tears from her eyes as she held out a pen. "I'm so sorry, it won't happen again. " she swallowed hard as she took a deep breath. She could do this!!

Despite her mistake in the beginning of class, Azura was determined to be perfect the rest of class, and her purple eyes snapped towards the projector as she looked at the slides that were shown them. She knew a few of them!

Especially the first one! And since she knew a few of the others, she could deduce what they all were!

Her hand went into the air as she spoke. "The first image is Pikachu, from a muggle cartoon called Pokemon." She used to watch that show with her cousin Wes. "Pikachu and the rest of the images are all characters from Muggle Children's cartoons."

Well she knew three of them were at least.

Callie 05-16-2016 05:48 PM

Hadley almost blushed. Almost. Any redness in her cheeks was just a delayed reaction from her journey to the classroom, 'Kay? The 13 year old nodded with a small smile and returned Fairy Princess's and Kitty's waves.

"Hey, Bernie!" She watched the exchange between Melon and Salamander curiously. Was something up between them? Mel did seem a bit colder to Tenacius when she saw Haddie and him having a picnic...so maybe. Either way, she didn't want to get in the middle of it. So, ignoring. "Can internet even work inside Hogwarts?" There were spells to get muggle items to work off magic instead of electricity, but she didn't think that extended to signals being sent to and from the computer. "And what's up with the sweaters, Bernard?" 'Cuz Bernie was short for Bernard.

Class started with pictures of cartoons and the seven year old still lingering inside Hadley's eyes lit up. Which is also to say, Haddie's eyes lit up before she could stop them. "Number 3 is Bugs Bunny. And they're all traditional, hand-drawn cartoon characters, as opposed to computer generated." Ha, suck on that Davvy...Er...no. She promised Rachel last year she'd try and be friends or at least civil to him. Nevermind.

RachieRu 05-16-2016 06:20 PM

Ooh. Lesson was starting. Harriet was really excited. She liked Muggle Studies. or at least she thought she would. Her mother had told her some stuff, but there was nothing as good as learning about it properly. So she was really excited about the job. She smiled as she looked at the five images that came onto the screen. Ooh. She knew some of them. That was good. She didn't want to not know things. This was a good start

Raising her hand, Hattie smiled. "The last image is Scooby doo. He's from an old cartoon originally called "Scooby Doo -where are you?" She had watched a few of those shows. They were funny. "And I believe all of the photos are from muggle cartoon shows"

AlwaysSnapesGirl 05-16-2016 07:24 PM

Now this was a class Rula was always really curious about. She wasn't completely ignorant of everything Muggle-related, but she definitely wasn't an expert either since she didn't exactly have a ton of experience with it, growing up in a magical family. She had heard of computers and such at least, so that laptop being here wasn't too strange.

The pictures were strange though. Or...maybe more unfamiliar than strange, actually. So she had no idea what their names would be. What they had in common though? She could take a guess at that, at least.

"They look like they're all drawn or something," she said, raising her hand. "Like, they're not something real that someone took a picture of with a camera." So kind of like portraits, but in a much different style. And those pictures weren't moving right now.

Danielle_Daughn 05-16-2016 08:01 PM

Evie squirmed in her seat with the showing of the first image "Pikachu!!" The brunette sung out. Pokémon had been one of her favorite Saturday Morning cartoons for as long as she could remember. She grinned as she watched the next few slides "Professor, they are all cartoons, and very popular ones at that." The girl remembered the "history" lesson her father had given her when she was about five or six on cartoons and just how old some of the footage was, older than her grandparents even.

One by one she wrote each of the characters names down

Janelle turned her attention to the professor when class was called to order. She listened as Professor Stewart explained about the laptop and projector. Janelle tended to forget that everyone didn't know about muggle objects. Of course they didn't, but it was always fun to see witches and wizards react to all things muggle.

When the slideshow began, Janelle began to smile. This she definitely knew. Raising her hand, she gave her answer. "One picture is of Fred Flintstone and all of those characters come from muggle cartoons." Janelle loved cartoons. She, her brother and sister would always watch muggle cartoons with their dad. Of course Janelle loved the old ones best. Especially Bugs Bunny. That was her all time favorite. If the lesson had to do with cartoons, she was all in.

Goblinfrog 05-16-2016 09:14 PM

Kitty loved Muggle cartoons. Admittedly, her favorite one was a dark animated movie known as Coraline - based on a book by brilliant writer Neil Gaiman. Sometimes Kitty wondered if Neil Gaiman was secretly a wizard. Coraline was about a girl who discovered a world where there was a fake copy of everyone she knew, but they all had button eyes. It was dark for a cartoon, but definitely one of her favorites.

She recognized Scooby Doo and Pikachu. "Pikachu, I choose you!" Immediately after saying it she felt embarrassed. "That's Pikachu, from Pokémon," she explained to everyone, pointing to the picture. "He's the main character in a cartoon that is also a video game series and trading card game."

'They are all Muggle cartoons. Muggles are very good with movies, aren't they."

Shanners 05-16-2016 09:45 PM

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH. OOOOOOOOOOOOOH.

Funnily enough, Rooney could name all of those characters that were shown -- like...everyone else. Oh. He didn't think that people would know this stuff. Wasn't the knowledge of Muggle things limited in the Wizarding World..? How did everyone know this stuff? Rude. Roo was more interested in the projector, because he loved to use things like that when it came to movies.

AND he'd had one at his huuuuuuge birthday party over the summer.

He said nothing. Everyone else was saying things and he just wanted to know how they knew everything.

THEY WERE WIZARDS AND WITCHES FOR MERLIN'S SAKE.

Cassirin 05-16-2016 10:36 PM

Dot squinted her way through the luridly colored drawings the professor showed on the screen, but the first two were totally unfamiliar to her. Was this art? Were they going to study Muggle artists who...

Oh! She knew that one! "That third one is Bugsy Bun Bun. Or, sorry, that's what my brother calls him. Bugs Bunny. He's a cartoon character from over a hundred years ago. Very cocky and self assured. Pretty sure he's a Gryffindor." Alba-querque.

itsjustjesse 05-16-2016 10:44 PM

Melbourne grinned at Professor Stewart as she asked if everything was okay. The question in and of itself was harmless but it made the short (still as short as she was a first year) girl just nodded. “I…yes, I am alright Ma’am.” Mel smiled up at her.

“I like your laptop, its very…nice” Mel grinned over to the Professor before raising her eyebrow at Hadley. “Uh…I don’t think the internet can work here because of the fact the school is unplottable” she shrugged her shoulder and grinned over to her. Aaaaaaand the sweaters.

“Um…” she scribbled down the words on a note and handed them over to Hadley. The…potions class…aging remember? Puberty. Sweaters are um…to hide it she adjusted the sweater again and tucked her knees up underneath herself.

Raising her hand, “The dog is Scooby Doo…from the similarly named cartoon…” she paused for a moment, “it like the other shows used an action called tweening which originally was drawn out by hand and later on computer programs…it makes it look like the characters are moving” Melbourne grinned to herself. It was also one hell of a way to get carpel tunnel syndrome.

Ameh 05-16-2016 11:29 PM

It still felt weird to have a different professor. Was this a normal thing for Hogwarts? Because he'd had the same teachers in his Muggle school for all of his Muggle school years. Jaemin had come to class anyway though, because he had to he was good at Muggle Studies, what with being part Muggle...

That was not helping him in the least with this lesson though. He knew the laptop, and the projector, of course. Technology wasn't difficult, because the Muggle world revolved around it. The cartoons though... he had been watching cartoons for as long as he could remember, and he had never seen these characters before. They had to be cartoons, right? They each had a very different drawing style, but they were coloured drawings, which usually meant either cartoon or comic book, and they didn't seem like comic book-style.

The small boy squirmed a little in his seat and looked at those around him. Pokeman? Scooby Doo? His prefect called out the bunny one, and while the name had a familiar tug to it... it just didn't draw any sort of memories forward. How old were these cartoons??? They had to be super old, like at least as old as Professor Myers, right? He sunk down a little lower, chewing on his bottom lip as he stared at the back of the laptop as if it might tell him the answer itself.

DaniDiNardo 05-17-2016 12:25 AM

The Professor's enthusiastic greeting was met with a stare of indifference before he'd taken his seat earlier. No comment made on pens and pencils. It didn't matter what he wrote with, his quill wrote for itself. It wasn't as if HE was using it so the boy left it floating above his shoulder while he pulled out the pen Professor Stewart seemed so intent on him using.

Slumped in his seat, Blaise was prepared to remain quiet for the duration of the lesson, except, she said something about going back a few years and not very far for some and he was ALMOST curious enough to sit forward and look attentive. Almost. The action was stopped when he did in fact see the pictures appear (but it wasn't magic. He'd learned that. Muggles did things the hard way and there was a lot of science involved).

"That shouldn't take any of us back by 'a few years', Professor. I don't think I've ever seen most of those. My grandpop knows about the one on the end though. Says it used to be his favourite show when he was a kid." So if she wanted to take anyone back it would be the old man and not them which left him surprised and somewhat....dumbfounded by just how so many of his classmates--especially that Gryffindor firstie (Evie) could easily recognize and spout facts about them. What did they do? Binge olden classics over their summer? Sorry, he'd rather surf with his cousin than be taken back to hundred year old humour. "They were popular for their time." He corrected, sparing the girl a glance. "But they're ancient now. Classics. I don't even think they're still in circulation over muggle media."

laurange 05-17-2016 01:46 AM

Blaaaaaaaaaaise.

Brian was just getting more irritated by the second but he couldn't help but hear the end of what Blaise was saying. It was difficult not to pay attention from the next desk anyway. He was pretty amused that so many people knew stuff about ANCIENT things, but then again, it wasn't surprising. The wizarding community was centuries behind on technology, it only made sense that they would be over 80 years behind on media.

"They're not. In circulation," he said, before he could be bothered to stop himself and put his thought process through a filter. "These were ancient. Really really ancient. I've never seen anything produced before 2050, and I've only seen them in antique stores. So I guess the only thing they have in common is that they're all defunct, and didn't last long enough to remain entertaining or relevant to current muggle society."

Which they weren't.

Especially if one was a caveman.

The end.

LilFox06 05-17-2016 02:01 AM

Kaycee grinned. THIS was why she loved Muggle Studies.

"That one is Scooby Doo! They're all cartoons." And, little known fact, Professor Myer had a Chia Pet featuring that dogs head. How did the Prefect know this? She'd given it to him of course.

Best student evah.

Deezerz 05-17-2016 02:30 AM

Cornelius Orion Baltazar was DEAD.

D-E-A-D.

He couldn't believe Professor Stewart was doing his tie and calling him smart and handsome. What this how heaven felt? Because if it did Cornelius neeeever wanted to leave. A rosie tint rose in his dimply cheeks as he smiled at the blue-eyed woman. From this close up he thought they resembled crystallized water. Like...deep ocean water.

When Professor Stewart finished adjusting his tie and shirt collar he nodded, his smile growing more and showing off those dimples of his. "No chance." Of losing points. Never. Not in her presence. "Thank you, Professor Stewart. If you need a helper this lesson, I'm your guy." He jabbed a thumb at himself. He. Cornelius Orion Baltazar. Yep.

Stepping into the classroom the boy shook his head, ruffling his curls as he did, and snapping out of whatever spell he had been under. Woah. That was a crazy rush. He took a seat next to the girl who was scared of insects (Katherine) and flashed her a grin that was a bit on the teasing side.

Oh, everyone shut up. Class was starting! Professor Steward had Cornelius' undivided attention. He studied the images carefully, and slowly raised his hand up, still studying the images. These were ancient but he knew about them because of his godfather who was ALL into antiques and collected those things. That and his dad was muggle-stuff-obsessed.

"They are animated cartoons. My godpop says they are different from films. Like...they are drawn. Like, each scene and stuff." By real hands and real people.

marshmallowXpie 05-17-2016 02:38 AM

Clara sat up straight as the professor reassured her that she was not at all late. And soon enough the class began, and Clara was glancing at each one of the displayed slides. A smile formed on her face as she realized that she did indeed recognize all of these figures. Unfortunately, she couldn't quite remember the names of all of them, but 3 out of 5 wasn't so bad after all. (She could not think of the names for the last two, no matter how long she tried.)

"Professor, these are all cartoons. Very old cartoons, actually. My grandparents and parents watched these a lot, but I don't know much about them. Well, um...cartoons, especially in the muggle world, were a form of entertainment that transformed the art world, making animated art, which can seem childish, accessible to all. And I cannot recall all their names, but I do know for sure that Image 2 is Cosmo! He's a green-haired fairy from the cartoon 'The Fairly OddParents' and he's married to Wanda, the pink-haired fairy." Clara ended her statement with a smile, satisfied with her answer. It wasn't perfect, but she had tried her best.

ChanceCoeur 05-17-2016 02:38 AM

Hehehee.

Noelle was so intrigued as the lights went out and the professor pulled a projector out. She knew what one was because her mum used them while she home schooled them. She grinned. Then the images flashed across the screen and she grinned even wider.

Pikachu.
That.....cartoon thing. Noelle wasn't completely sure what that meant. Some fighting thing.
Then more cartoons! Some she knew, and some she didn't.
Bugs Bunny she knew. It was her mums favorite cartoon.

Noelle smiled and raised her hand. See professor? Not sleepy.
"Cartoons! " That's what they had in common.

littledhampir 05-17-2016 02:50 AM

Olly squinted at the pictures on the projector. He recognized none of the first four, though the art style suggested they were probably animated characters. Possibly comic book character too or something like that. Maybe both. It wasn't until the professor reached the very last picture that he figured they were probably all cartoon characters. He'd seen that dog before. Not very much, because it was a muggle cartoon, but enough to know that his name was Scooby Doo. His dad had showed him. It was a really old muggle cartoon, one that had been around for ages and would probably never go away.

"That dog solves mysteries with his friends," he offered. Others had already offered up his name so he didn't feel like repeating the information. That was pretty much the extent of his knowledge. And that was all he had to base a guess on about what they all had in common. Did they all solve mysteries? Or was it simply that they were all animations? Others were saying cartoons so he figured that must be right.

Suziella 05-17-2016 02:58 AM

Juno raised her hand and waited to be called on. "I see Fred Flintstone! They are all classic cartoons and anyone can go online and find these shows. I used to watch them all the time when I was little," she said, directing the comment to a couple of boys she didn't know. "My father watched them with my grandma and wanted us to have the silly cartoons as well. Anyone can have access to them if they have access to the internet." She knew from experience. She may be a witch but her wizarding parents were very modern and knew how to work with technology.

Steelsheen 05-17-2016 04:00 AM

He nodded his curly mop of a head at the Professor, cheerfully exuberant as always. Very well indeed. Right no touchy but really he waaaaanted to. If its not behind a glass case with alarms ready to go off he will get his paws on them. Fer reals. Oh and did she just sorta admit theres internet in the Fun Room? Oh he has got to check that out later.

And we saw that daring look Johanson. Does she really want to dare a Salander? A childhood bestie at that? No boundaries ya know hehehehehe.

But you got lucky lil lady because classes has started AND ITS ABOUT CARTOON YAAAS!

"They are all my toys!!" the Gryffindor exulted happily from his seat at the back (next to the projector but of course). Hey the Professor did ask what they all had in common right? But yeah lets try something a bit more factual "Uhm all these are cartoons-- animation made for television, started in the late 20th century." The boy knows his cartoons yup.

Stefan 05-17-2016 04:54 AM

Jace nodded at the professor, and made a mental note about teaching her how to greet people in Japanese. He could give her pointers, and probably, Ichihara-sensei could help her practice during their free time in the professors’ common work room. Slightly blushing, he gave the professor a shallow bow of his head once more and shifted his attention to Azura.

He watched her get all flustered as she replaced her things with muggle writing implements. Jace felt bad for her, and he was sure she wasn’t doing well still. Instinctively, the Ravenclaw got an extra muggle pencil from his bag and placed it on top of Azura’s desk.

Brown eyes then shifted to the front of the class when the shutters of the window were closed, signaling that it was the start of their class. Sitting straighter on his chair, Jace watched as the images were flashed on the screen. The half-Japanese smiled as his classmates mentioned Pokémon. He’s such a popular Japanese cartoon character, wasn’t he? Jace nodded along, and then raised his hand to offer his own answer, “That is Cosmo professor, from the Fairly Oddparents cartoon show.” He said grinning. Funny character, that was. It was his grandpa’s favourite too! He liked Cosmo more than Wanda, because he's just like his papa...minus the lapses. “Those cartoon characters were all hand-drawn…and are products of very good imagination.” Japanese pop culture can attest to that, yes.

WhittyBitty 05-17-2016 08:59 AM

Oooh, cartoons. That was an interesting topic for them to discuss because she could remember watching them with her family for as long as she could remember.

With a giggle at what her sister said, Esme raised her hand to answer the first question. She could have easily gone with the same reply, but that would be plain lazy. Besides, she knew who all five of the characters were. "Number three is Bugs Bunny and I'd say that the thing that all five characters have in common is that they are cartoons." If there was another similarity that the Professor was going for, she missed it.

Hera 05-17-2016 11:00 AM

Zeke could appreciate the darkness that drawing the curtains had to offer. What would have made the lesson more enjoyable, was if they were actually watching cartoons instead of just looking at a few pictures. Like... could they just have a lesson where they watched things? That'd be fun.

As it was, he did like muggle cartoons, and the old school ones were fairly good even if he couldn't recall the names as well as everyone else seemed to be able to.

Good for them.

StarShine 05-17-2016 11:15 AM

Azura and Melbourne too

Katherine hadn't greeted the woman because everyone else had been and she wanted to look different. Besides, nods were quite efficient. She preferred to watch the people and when Jacen sat next to her, she was relieved. She liked Jacen (not in that sense), he was pretty smart and polite. So she said "Hello," to his Japanese greeting, smiled also at Azura and Melbourne, then turned her attention back to people-watching. She also noted how Cornelius went totally blushed at the compliment, and idly did look at the boy from afar as his tie was being done. Would she call him handsome?.. Possibly... Before she could come to a definite conclusion, though, the boy sat down next to her and she returned his suspicious smile with a polite and cautious one.

He... didn't bring wasps in his pocket, did he?

Anyway, the class was beginning and she studied the pictures. She didn't know any of them because they were old and she didn't watch cartoons, for they were for kids. However, she HAD read the textbook and after listening to the answers, she raised her hand. CLEARLY none of her peers had read it.

"These are all examples of characters from animated cartoons, I believe," she said as her voice confidently rang in the classroom, "and the animation is actually an illusion. In the past, the cartoon artists used to draw pictured that differed only slightly, and then these pictures were displayed in rapid succession - the most common was 24 frames per second. But the cartoons are created digitally now and as anyone can guess, it's far easier."

You're welcome, class and professor.

It was time to get started! “I am certain that you have. It’s called a computer.’’ She offered her a smile and at that moment caught Tenacius’s look.

OOC: Howdy, guys! So class has officially started. Remember not to post any late arrivals, for those of you now joining, but simply pretend as though you and your charries have been here all along ^_^ The lesson will resume in about 24 hours. If you have any questions, contact me via Skype/MSN, PM or VM! <3

"Oh yes, a computer." Bella replied, wondering if they would be able to actually fiddle around with it later. As much as she liked learning about muggle contraptions she didn't always get to actually see or touch the items. Her parents were way to protective to allow her to do anything like that.

Bella listened as Professor Stewart explained the two items, before turning them on. As the first two pictured passed, Bella was completely lost. She didn't know the names of any of the characters until the bunny, but again couldn't remember the name right away.

Bags... Buzz... Buster... Bugs... Bugs Bunny!

"They are all characters from shows that comes on the telly." She replied finally before adding. "And I believe the third image is Bugs Bunny."

Grrr..Meow 05-17-2016 04:50 PM

ohh right! she wasnt allowed to use her quill. did she even pack a pencil or pen? going through her bag she found one single pen at the bottom of her bag, with no lid. drawing on her paper she made suer that the pen actually worked.

it did! yay! she didnt have to bug someone to borrow one.

Now looking at these pictures... Echo had no clue what they were? but one thing she knew for certain was that these were drawings, cartoon drawings to be exact. Might as well point out the obvious. Raising her hand "Professor, those are cartoon drawings! but im not quite sure of the name" lowering her hand she listened to the rest of the answers.

She recognized Scooby Doo and Pikachu. "Pikachu, I choose you!" Immediately after saying it she felt embarrassed. "That's Pikachu, from Pokémon," she explained to everyone, pointing to the picture. "He's the main character in a cartoon that is also a video game series and trading card game."

'They are all Muggle cartoons. Muggles are very good with movies, aren't they."

“It’s quite alright, Ms Kennedy,’’ she said kindly before pausing in concern near to Hady. Ms Lynch? Are you alright?’’ From the moment the girl stepped into the classroom, Kay noted how out of it she seemed.

“Yes! This little yellow creature is known as the mouse Pokemon called Pikachu. He is actually my favourite from the show.’’
Wasn’t Pikachu a cutie?

“Indeed that is Scooby Doo! He and his human friends embark on journeys to solve mysteries as Mr Thomas-Borzekowski rightfully said. Though Scooby is easily scared to investigate certain aspects of the mysteries, he usually comes through in the end. He is very loyal to his friends.’’

As she began, Sky tried hard to focus on the images displayed. Honestly, she didn't know too many of them, except for the one wearing orange rags that he called a shirt. Her brother probably knew more of them then she did, but she did know one thing about all of them in common.

He... didn't bring wasps in his pocket, did he?

As it was, he did like muggle cartoons, and the old school ones were fairly good even if he couldn't recall the names as well as everyone else seemed to be able to.

Good for them.

No response from Rooney or Zeke? Kay had no doubt that they knew at least some of these characters but perhaps Rooney was distracted by the projector- she did notice his attention on the object. Jaemin, too, was silent. The Professor looked at him in concern. She had noted that he seemed somewhat smaller in his seat.

Hadleigh's gaze immediately dropped onto the top of her desk. It was very interesting. Mhmm. She was fine. Perfectly in fact. Never better. "Yes Professor," she replied with a small nod. No need to draw any attention onto her please. Just let the lesson continue before anyone else noticed her. The mention of Pikachu being her favorite though did somewhat pique her attention for everyone seemed to like that little guy. She herself happened to adore Eevee the small fox like pokemon.

The pictures should've been enough to tell them what the lesson was about today. Hand drawn technology versus animated ones. Would they be getting to make their own cartoons? Now that would be interesting and not a total waste of having forced herself from bed and to the days lesson. Why did she watch the cartoons? Erm to waste time? Because she was a kid, all her friends watched them, because it was entertaining? All of those reasons?

"They were a fantasy, an escape from everyday life," she replied with a hand lifted halfway into the air. No need to dig deeper into the meaning behind that. An answer was an answer.

Cartoon shows. Echo has heard of them before but never really watched any. "well Professor, my family is rather large and all in the magical community, we never had much muggle things in the house and most of the times we were at family gatherings our some other event"

that was one good thing about having a large family, is that they always kept her busy and not to mention the new dresses and clothes that she got to buy for each party! her closet at home was bursting, ready to pop at a moments notice.

Despite the Professors reassurance, Azura was still rather flustered. She didn't know why she hadn't paid attention.. She was feeling awful about it. She managed to smile at Katherine before she saw a pencil appear on her desk.. Almost instantly she calmed down and she looked over at Jace with a grateful smile. "Arigatou Jace-kun" She said softly as she bit her lip and looked at her best friend for a moment before turning back to the lesson.

She listened intently to Professor as she spoke and then thought for a moment about why she watched cartoons.

She raised her hand before speaking. "I watched them with my older cousin Wes, it was sort of a way to bond to him and find some common interests with him. I watch them by myself now though, because they bring back memories of those fun days spent with my cousin. " So to sum up. "Bonding and Nostalgia. "

Speaking of.. She turned her head slightly and she saw Wes but his lip and slide down in her seat a little.. He looked embarrassed.. But she caught his wink at her and she smiled.

Ooh. She'd watched lots of animated things. Her mother liked putting old videos on the tv. Whilst she came from a magical family her mother had wanted her children to grow up with a knowledge of muggle things too. So that meant that she had watched some animated shows too. "I watched lots when I was little" The first year beamed as she raised her hand in the air. Now she just had to think of a really good one to say.

"My favorite was the Power Puff girls" Because she was a girl and she liked girly things. The power puff girls had awesome girls with super powers in too, not like magical ones, so it was a great show. "And I liked it because it was totally different to my life, so kind of like an escape? And it was about super heroes. So it's really cool"

(sorry phone post)

Why does he watch cartoons? Funny enough, he never questioned the why "Well it was always on…" he replied honestly, with a casual shrug of his shoulders. "Dad and Mom gave me my own wireless and television box in my room and theres always something playing." To him that’s normalcy, something to be expected in a child's room, just as toys and certain books would be, material that helps with the development of a precocious mind.

"Oh my favorite?? There's lots…." like no joke it's probably most of what was aired in the last hundred years. "Uhm uhm I always love watching Superhero cartoons like Justice League, Xmen, Teen Titans… he started, and oh boy has he just gotten started "Then theres my favorite robot cartoons like Transformers and Voltron!-- both the ones with the lions and the vehicles!... And the Centurions! And and GI Joe! And Thundercats! And Ghostbusters! And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! And Jonny Quest! And Dexter's Lab! And Jimmy Neutron! And Avatar the Last Airbender! Plus Korra! And and…" oh goodness there's more... But he has to get this last one in because-- "… and there's this short lived one that I really love called Visionaries Knights of the Magical Light-- and they're warrior Knights but they can transform into creatures with the help of this giant wand they call a staff!! he was pretty convinced that cartoon was made by a Wizard.

Melbourne watched as the Professor went on with the lesson before glancing back over at Tenacius. Obviously she could handle the whole daring him thing….she had just silently done it after all. So there she was, sitting in class raising her eyebrow at him and egging him on.

So…..her answer had been right then? That was nice to know, the only unnerving thing was hearing Professor Stewart as for her favorite cartoon…well…animated show. Raising her hand she took a quick breath in “Alright, so a lot of the animated shows I watch I’ve watched with Tenacius.” She admitted with a little grin. “I watch both of the Avatar shows, I’ve seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dexter’s Lab” she felt her cheeks flush a bit as she continued…”now…there are a few that I’ve watched on my own or with other friends? Like My Little Pony: Friendship is magic, the magic school bus, futurama, Bob’s Burgers…Doug and um I recently got introduced to the show Daria?” She admitted with a little shrug of the shoulder.

Wait had she answered her favorite? Eh…she’d get back to that later.

Yes Skylar had recognized ALL of the cartoon characters, but that didn't mean she'd watched any of the animations herself. She had attended muggle primary school, as her siblings did. So needless to say, Sky was shocked that so many - Hattie included - had seen some of the animated shows. Did her peers have nothing better to do? Like you know, learn to ride a broomstick or engage in caring for magical creatures? Or were they all muggleborns or something? She was certain not.

Raising her hand, she said calmly, "I didn't watch animated shows because I found them to be mostly filled with stupid comedy. Not to mention, I was more interested in other activities, like learning to read or learning on care of creatures or learning to ride a broomstick." Was that a serious question as to why she never did? Honestly. She was a witch and her parents and siblings knew it since she was like three!

To be honest, I prefer watching these than more recent ones.’’ Hence, one ofthe reasons she had chosen these five images. “One of the Darcys brought up the fact that they can be viewed online. “Yes, Ms Valentine,’’ Kay said with a nod to Kitty. “I would say that most of muggle made movies are good, some are rather exceptional while others are not so much.’’ Hmmm, possibly for one lesson they would focus on movies. She made a mental note of this idea.

Ms Moss expounded a little on the topic of how fast the hand drawn pictures were displayed. She is quite correct and I would like to add that some even used 25, 30 or 60 frames. Take two points, Ms Moss!’’

Juno smirked. She was happy that she could make a valid point to those comments. Raising her hand again, "I'm Juno, Professor. It's OK, we get mistaken for each other a lot." She smiled before giving her answer to the new question, "I watched cartoons because they were funny and could be really interesting at times. My favorite was Powerpuff Girls, specifically Buttercup. I identified with her character in a lot of different ways. She was always the toughest of the three and liked to fight." Was that too telling of her personality? She was very protective...and did enjoy fighting. She was very well trained by her father. She may look small, but she was scrappy.

Callie 05-17-2016 10:33 PM

"I watched because they were fun, and goofy and entertaining. And I still watch because my best friend is obsessed with disney animated movies and princesses." Hadley flashed Rachel a look as she said that. Though honestly with the seven year old still sort of around, she kinda doubted that was the only reason she'll still watch them. She could feel the desire to curl up and watch them without or without Rachel lurking somewhere in the back of her mind.

"My favorite would be The Lion King, mainly because it focused on lions. But it's still a great movie beyond that." Though, in all honestly, The Lion King didn't top movies that used real lions, like Born Free. "And the sequels and shows based off it. Even though neither were as good."

Goblinfrog 05-17-2016 11:38 PM

"My whole family loves the Muggle world, so we are familiar with their movies and books and stuff. We have a huge collection." Not to mention that until she started attending Hogwarts, all her makeup was also Muggle made."Sometimes when I was little my parents would leave me alone in the mansion to go work, and I would pick one of their old movies to watch. Other times I would just turn on the television and flip through the channels curiously."

Oh, it looked like Kitty would have a chance to mention her favorite cartoon after all."My favorite is Coraline," she said when it was her turn. "It is about a girl who moves into a shared house and finds a tunnel leading into another world. The other world is a fake copy of the real world, and all the people in it are twisted versions of the people Coraline knew in real life. The biggest difference is that they all have buttons for eyes. It's creepy in a good way and ends happily - and I found Coraline very relatable. I love movies like that." Like Coraline's parents, her parents were often extremely busy too - and Kitty liked Coraline's blue hair. She also liked the cat and Wybie, but she didn't think she had the time to talk about everything in Coraline.

Her hand didn't go down. "Another one I love a lot is Zootopia. It's about a bunny who goes to the city to be a cop. In the world of Zootopia animals don't eat each other, so there are prey and predator animals living side by side. She partners with a fox to solve a crime. I'm not going to say anything else in case anyone didn't watch it and is planning to."

Shanners 05-17-2016 11:49 PM

Hand drawn blah-di-blah. His good mood had gone out of the window for some reason and he was considering excusing himself from this lesson because it wasn't like he NEEDED it. Honestly, everything they were taught in this class...everyone already seemed to know. Wasn't this supposed to educate them on the Muggle world and not just see who knew what and who just wanted an easy pass grade? -- That was it! This was just an easy pass grade to people. Roo looked around the classroom, taking in the faces of the older students that he knew had exams this year and thought very poorly of them.

Hand up in the air, Rooney managed a smile for the Professor. "My Mum craved cartoons when she was pregnant. That's what she said." Tom and Jerry specifically. To the point that his younger siblings had almost been named after the characters. That would have been awful.

Cassirin 05-18-2016 12:41 AM

Dot hadn't watched many cartoons in her childhood, since her parents didn't always understand how the TV worked, but she'd seen plenty of movies. Cartoon movies, in particular, had been some of her favorites - the ones with princesses and singing and beautiful dresses and mermaid hair styles. The first dresses she'd ever designed and been crayon drawings for those princesses.

"I like some of those old Disney movies, Professor. Like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. They really captured my imagination and took me to places I couldn't go no my own. Plus the songs are infectious and get stuck in your head."

Ameh 05-18-2016 12:55 AM

Why was the professor looking at him like that? Jaemin blinked at the woman for a moment, caught on her expression, before his melted into something of a mirror and he was looking at her in concern. He was CONCERNED. He wasn't sure why, but he WAS.

The small boy let his attention wander as each student offered their own answer to the professor's questions, but... he couldn't help but wonder about something. It was so obvious and jarring, and of course he couldn't just let it pass. He had to address the Erumpent in the room.

"Why is everyone naming such old stuff," he asked to no one in particular, turning to look back at the students behind him. "Doesn't anyone watch stuff like Smash Melonball... or Universal Knowledge...?"

They were his favourites. When he was still in Muggle school, he and his friends had bonded quite a bit over those shows... he'd never heard of pretty much any of those that were being brought up by everyone else, and while he knew that he couldn't know every show that aired... he had to know some. He looked at the professor, nose wrinkling.

"I like watching cartoons cause they're funny... do wizards only watch really old ones though?" Had he missed a memo or something? This was why he was still a little mad about his parents keeping him out of the wizard stuff for the most part until he'd gotten his letter. "Flipswitch is pretty old..."

Old enough that his dad had watched it around Jaemin's age, or so he assumed. Twenty years old, or something? That was old. Even most of his Muggle friends hadn't watched that one because it wasn't current...

WhittyBitty 05-18-2016 02:40 AM

It was rather funny that Professor Stewart couldn't tell them apart, but Esme knew that was only because she hadn't known them for very long. Anyone who was familiar with had no difficulty because for one thing they had different tastes in style. Of course that didn't stop them from sharing clothes.

The topic of cartoons was fascinating to her and a big part of that had to do with remembering watching the shows with her family when she was younger. She still watched cartoons to this day. She raised her hand to answer the next question. "Well, I like cartoons because they are a good way to escape from reality. They also give me a feeling of nostalgia. As Juno already mentioned, our dad got us into cartoons at a young age and we used to watch them together. We still do at times." When they were all together, obviously.

DaniDiNardo 05-18-2016 02:56 AM

Blaise glanced over at the Hufflepuff (Juno) who'd mentioned the...internet and the online when it came to archaic works of fiction. Even more, he wondered why she'd think he knew what any of those were. Should he have? He gave her a strange look, one that went nowhere at the Professors next words.

She also spoke of the online and the internet. Of course, add that to his classmates naming more names he didn't know about and talks about using TVs and funny cartoons and you had a Gryffindor sinking further into his seat.

He couldn't say why he watched cartoons, because he didn't, nor could he say what he liked about them. What he could contribute was why he never watched them. "We don't see the need to have a ton of muggle stuff in the house or to live like them. It doesn't enrich our lives and Dad says it will rot a perfectly good mind that could be learning something beneficial about the wizarding world." A world he wasn't sure he wanted to be a part of anymore but listening to his classmates, he wasn't so sure he cared for the muggle one either. Not after how that Skylar girl explained it.

Realizing he wouldn't be learning anything he would need, the boy snapped his fingers at the floating quill and muttered a quick, "That's enough." sending it to rest with the notepad on his desk. No need to waste the ink.

His ears caught the words of that snake (Jaemin), who was asking the SAME question he'd been trying to figure out. "They're all time travellers, mate." Said with a tone that was anything but serious. It was the only explanation outside of backward people who'd rather pretend they lived in the past as opposed to moving to the future--but that was none of his business. He clearly didn't know anything on this topic.

littledhampir 05-18-2016 04:04 AM

Olly hadn't heard of any of the other characters before so it was interesting to hear others talk about them. Cartoons were interesting, he actually liked learning about that. Who wouldn't? Were they going to watch them? That sounded like a great activity to him, but it didn't look like the professor had that in mind. She was moving on and asking them more questions. At least they weren't hard ones. He raised his hand to answer.

"Professor, one of my dads is muggle born so he likes to show us what kinds of things he watched when he was little. I like cartoons with animals in them. My favorite is The Jungle Book." They didn't watch a lot of cartoons because the triplets were always busy doing one thing or another. But of course they watched TV sometimes, though it was usually current shows instead of those old ones.

Catchup Post (sorry!)

Text Cut: before class & Question 1
Didn’t it seem as though Fiyero looked tired? Kay couldn’t blame him. She reasoned he had trekked all the way from the Gryffindor Tower. “Hello, Mr Jones! Please take a seat to catch your breath.’’ A well rested student concentrated better in classes. “Please remember to use your pen or pencil.’’

“Welcome to yet another Muggle Studies lesson! You must be wondering what today’s lesson will be all about. Well, I was thinking about going a bit back to our younger years. Maybe we wouldn’t even have to go back any years at all for some of you.’’ Her blue eyes twinkled in the general direction of the class.

OOC: Howdy, guys! So class has officially started. Remember not to post any late arrivals, for those of you now joining, but simply pretend as though you and your charries have been here all along The lesson will resume in about 24 hours. If you have any questions, contact me via Skype/MSN, PM or VM! <3

Right... Pencil for Muggle Studies, quill for everything else, Fiyero thought, replacing his quill with the correct writing utensil. It looked like he'd be able to keep them straight by now!

He stared at the board as the slides appeared. He recognized all of the characters except the green-haired guy with - was that a wand he was holding? His classmates had already done a pretty good job pointing out that they were all cartoon characters. It didn't seem necessary to repeat it, but he didn't want Professor Stewart to think he wasn't paying attention. "They're all cartoon characters, Professor," he said after being called on. "The little yellow thing is Pikachu from an old cartoon called Pokemon. I think that one started in Japan..."

They were learning about animation today? Cool! this was going to be a fun lesson...

Cartoons had always been a big part of Fiyero's life. It was one of the few things his parents had in common. His mother, despite being a pureblood withc, enjoyed watching them (her favorites were the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons), but the real cartoon fan in the Jones family was his dad. He decorated his office with toys of old cartoon characters, and he even said he would've gone into animation if only he weren't so bad at drawing!

He thought for a minute before raising his hand. "My parents are both huge cartoon nuts, so they were sort of a permanent fixture in our house," he said. But which one was his favorite? So many choices... "I like almost all cartoons, but my favorite's Pokemon. It's action-packed, and my dad always takes a break from work to watch it with me..." His voice trailed off as he realized he was talking too much. Did his classmates really need to know about his relationship with his father?

Clara wasn't really much of a television watcher as a child, but there were a few programs that she could recall seeing quite frequently. Hand raised and back straight, she began to talk once the other classmates had had their turn, "Well, growing up with a muggle parent and a wizard parent has its advantages. One of them being that I got exposed to entertainment in both worlds. I guess the cartoon-watching was definitely more dominant during my grandparents' time, but my parents took some of that with them, of course. I am drawn to animated shows because of the artistry, the storyline, the acting itself. I think that's the same reason I'm drawn to any other show, really. Every sort of entertainment is valid and important to someone out there, and that's all that really matters in the end. A few years ago, I stopped watching these animated shows because I started reading books more, but from time to time, during summer breaks especially, my parents will have a little marathon where we watch our very favorites. It's hard to pick a single program that stuck out to me, but I think that my absolute all-time number one animated movie would be Mulan. That era of Disney was excellent, in my opinion."

laurange 05-18-2016 09:08 AM

Brian was so done.

So so so so so very done.

He'd literally just said that every single thing about those characters was defunct and that nobody did animation that wasn't in at least three dimensions at ALL any more. Nobody. At all. It was not a thing. This was ancient history. Seriously. There was nothing to enjoy about it at all. It looked unrealistic and weird. Nothing like modern art.

So, since he was being ignored, maybe he'd just sit here. He might be taking a nap. He might not be. But he was most certainly not paying any attention to the lesson at all any longer. Nope. If his answers were going to be ignored, he would not answer. Especially when the answers she preferred were outdated by at least eighty years.
Zzzzzzzzzzz.

StarShine 05-18-2016 10:13 AM

Katherine got her notepad and textbook ready to note down things that weren't written on the book. As the professor organised the answers and summarised them, she quickly compared the book and the blackboard. Everything seemed to be in the book... besides, she knew these stuff, but just in case they would be asked at the exam, she drew a star by the six facts the Professor had stressed.

She was a very careful student, y'see.

When a girl called Darcy got points for her answer, she jealously looked in that direction. WHY did SHE never get - oooooooOOOOoOoh, she GOT T W O POINTS AS WELL!!!! She beamed and looked around to see if anyone looked jealously AT HER, and secretly wondered whether she would have got more points had she mentioned the 25, 30 or 60 frames. Well, next time she was saying everything she knew.

Listening to questions, she tried to gauge the Professor's reaction. She had rarely watched cartoons, but was that THE answer the Professor was looking? Should she mention they enrich the imagination, or that they were childish? She... was going to answer honestly this time, because she didn't want to risk a "What was your favourite show, then?" Not when she had earned two whole points.

She raised her hand in the end, and said "I didn't watch many cartoons, because I liked colourful, educating books more as well," she said, referring to Skylar Diggory, Ravenclaw first year's answer, "though if I have to pick one, I like technology aided better. They look more real and help the imagination more."

Jean Granger 05-18-2016 11:47 AM

Carl had not been expecting anything exciting to happen in this Muggle Studies class but then cartoons? Well, that was a very fun topic! He sat up straighter in his seat and let his imagination wander to when he spent all day watching animated shows. That was like, last summer, so yes, he still watched cartoon.

"A lot of things that happen in the shows are not real, so it's fun to imagine what it would be like if they were. My favorite is Superhero cartoons!" The Hufflepuff replied with his hand in the air. He grinned at Mel and Tenacius - they were naming all the shows he liked!

Daydreamer11 05-18-2016 12:16 PM

So they were going to debate hand drawn vs. technology aided animation. Cool. Janelle supposed there were plusses and minuses to both. She, however, was partial to the old timey cartoons. That may have been more for sentimental reasons than anything else, but she loved what she loved.

When the professor asked the next question, Janelle's hand shot into the air. This might have been the easiest question ever asked at Hogwarts. I watched cartoons growing up and I still love them. When I was little, my bother and sister and I would binge watch cartoons with my dad. We'd sit in our pajamas and watch one show after the other." Just thinking about it took Janelle back to a warm and fuzzy time in her life. "I always liked the old ones best. My favorite cartoon of all time is Bugs Bunny." Janelle found the wascally wabitt to be hilarious, even more so now that she was older and got the inside jokes.

Did little miss Ravenclaw just best his answer? Yes she did, and it caused Cornelius' corner of his mouth to lifted a little. Impressive.

Switching his attention back on the lovely Professor Stewart he made a few notes of the important key points. Then he focused on the next question. Why did he watch animated shows? Well. He didn't watch many. He was well versed in muggle things because of his dad and goddad, other than that his mumma raised him as a proper, educated, cultured pure-blood child like many old families did. He did watch some cartoons at his goddad's (which is where he learned lots of ancient muggle things) so he raised his hand.

"I was only allowed fifteen minutes of cartoons a day and I used them up to watch superhero stuff because it was entertaining." Kids did that naturally; were easily entertained. But now that he was close to being a teenager his interest were changing...

And Miss Ravenclaw pipped up with something. His lips twitched again. "That and I preferred to play outside. With insects." He smirked a wiggled his eyebrows at Katherine. Bzzzzzzz ZAP.

And hello to the worst class in Hogwarts....muggling. This and divination had to be her worst classes by far. This one, she always stuck to her boyfriend and managed to survive. Unfortunately whenever they had a female professor and he smiled at them, she felt the urge to knock him out of his seat. Professor complimenting him, did nothing to help this urge. Her silent disapproval made her look at Zeke and smile, no matter how mature she got or how much she loved Henric, Ilia still had a snake streak.

And she was just lost at what her classmates were on about. What was a peeky chew? A bug bunny? A Scooby doo-doo?......Muggles really were strange people, that her classmates knew all of this was even stranger.

Why or why not....."I have never seen any of these animations. Muggle things were forbidden from our household when I was a child, I've only recently learned what a tell o vision is." Her family was wizard old school, none of these cart unes made any sort of sense to the teen.

QUOTE=SpiritWolfe Malfoy;11946159]Hadleigh's gaze immediately dropped onto the top of her desk.

Kay nodded. She would leave Hady for now but keep an eye on her. “Excellent! Indeed these shows provided a form of relaxation and fantasy so that we focused on what was going on in the animated world instead.’’

“Very good reasons, Ms Kennedy! I trust that the shows really did help you to bond with your cousin.’’

that was one good thing about having a large family, is that they always kept her busy and not to mention the new dresses and clothes that she got to buy for each party! her closet at home was bursting, ready to pop at a moments notice.

“That’s quite understandable, Ms Duchannes! Family time and socialising is rather important. Perhaps you can try blending family time with an animated show sometime,’’ Kay suggested, her eyes twinkling yet again.

Ah, yes. The Powerpuff girls. “Blossom, Bubbles and…’’ Oh dear gosh! What was the other one called again? “Buttercup!’’ Kay bobbed her head. “That was indeed a great show, Ms Paton."

To him that’s normalcy, something to be expected in a child's room, just as toys and certain books would be, material that helps with the development of a precocious mind.

“Very true, Mr Salander. They were on every day of the week and at all hours.’’ Oh dear gosh! Tenacius sure did watch a lot of animated shows! Kay grinned. “I see you’re fond of the ones filled with action but I am not familiar Visionaries Knights of the Magical Light.’’

Kay looked from Tenacius to Mel. From what she gathered, it seemed as though they had grown up together. And she had definitely not missed those cheeks colouring. “All wonderful shows, Ms Melbourne! I see you have a liking for the action ones as well as the ones with the softer side.’’

Kay was disappointed to hear that Skylar found animated shows not worth her time. “I see, Ms Diggory. I am sure your all of those endeavors paid off.’’ She smiled, finding nothing wrong with the Snakette’s answer. Everyone was entitled to their opinion.

She smiled before giving her answer to the new question, "I watched cartoons because they were funny and could be really interesting at times.

Ah, yes! This one was Juno. Kay had forgotten which twin was sitting where which would have made it easier to tell the two apart but now Juno clarified it.

The Muggle Studies woman laughed. “So you were influenced by your best friend?’’ Her eyes twinkled at the two girls. “Ah, the Lion King is one of my favourites, too. I’m always particularly sad at the scene where Mufasa dies.’’ And she had learnt something here about Haddie- the girl was in love with cats.

If there was one thing Kaysha had learnt about Kitty, it was how much she loved and adored muggles. Kay could see why too- she had been influenced by her family. She offered the girl a wide smile. “Those both sound wonderful, Kitty, but I must say I have never seen either of them. I shall try to, however.’’

At this response, the woman froze for a second or two, blinking. She had been caught off guard with this response but her brain quickly zoned in on a possibility as to why Rooney’s mother would want that. “Perhaps she wanted to be able to get closer to children related things since she was pregnant and animated shows were a way for her to do this.’’

The girls, some of them at least, seemed to have liking for the Princesses still.

“I’m sorry, Mr Song, but I’m not familiar with either of those but thank you for bringing them up. I’ll be sure to look into them.’’ She gave him a reassuring smile. “Oh, no. I’m sure they watch the more recent ones as well but these old ones were hand drawn animation rather than computer generated so that’s why we’re focusing on them.''

Esme! This twin was Esme, the woman was one hundred percent sure. “Your dad did something wonderful there, I’m sure you have realised. The twins could maintain a healthy bond by reliving their childhood.

Yet again Kay was disappointed by a response just as she had been by Skylar’s. “I’m sorry to hear your father feels that way, Mr Bellaire. But what do you believe? You, with your own thoughts? Don’t you believe that we can learn from muggles even though we don’t have to live our lives like they do?’’ She left it at that for the young boy to ponder upon.

Kay now understood why Oliver had such a long surname. She grinned. “Quite right! Family members would usually recommend to their relatives what to watch. I did enjoy that as well as I loved how some of the jungle creatures protected Mowgli.’’

Text Cut: Question 2
"Well done, all of you. I am rather pleased to see that despite these animated shows being outdated, many of you are still aware of them.'' Again, this backed up her point about the shows being recommended by older folks. "The main focus for the lesson is hand drawn animation. But before I touch more on the subject of hand drawn versus technology aided animated shows, I would like each of you to tell me this: why did you or do you watch animated shows? Which is your favourite? Even if you never watched any, tell me why you never did.'' The reason she had stated earlier that she may be taking them back a few years was because Kay knew that some persons tended to watch animated shows up to a certain age. As they got older, their interests changed and they moved onto other hobbies. But others like herself, still would watch them. Hence they did not need taking back to their childhood.

OOC: I love the opinions of your charries, guys! Keep up the good work! The final question will be posted in approximately 24 hours. Questions? You know how to reach me

“Excellent, Mr Jones. Indeed this is Pikachu and they are all cartoons.’’ Wasn’t it lovely that present day wizarding folks could recognise old muggle animation?
Oh? Pokemon was Fiyero’s favourite too? The Muggle Studies Professor could not stop herself from grinning. “That would be mine too! I think it’s rather nice that you and your father spend time watching it.’’

Ms Simelanu had quite a bit of opinion of the subject. It was excellent opinion in Kay’s mind. She listened, smiling and nodding to encourage the girl on. When she was done, the woman told her, “Yes, this is one of the main ways I think kids today are influenced into watching animated shows- via family. Excellently said! It’s all important, there is much to learn from them, isn’t there? But there’s nothing wrong with having different interests now.’’ Here was yet another person who loved Disney! “Mulan is such a brave girl. Her dragon is quite amusing.’’

Among the raised hands in the classroom, Kaysha noted that Brian’s hand was not. She studied his face and it seemed to her that he had zoned out. Was he about to doze off? “Mr Woods? I do hope you’re paying attention.’’

Yes, Katherine. That pleased look on your face did not go unnoticed. Kay thought she surely deserved those extra points as did any other student who gave exceptional answers. “That’s very Ravenclaw of you, Ms Moss. It’s not too late to start watching a few more now.’’ The woman’s eyes twinkled. “Thank you for that. Incidentally, that would be my final question.’’ So, it seemed they already had a vote for technology driven animation.

"A lot of things that happen in the shows are not real, so it's fun to imagine what it would be like if they were. My favorite is Superhero cartoons!" The Hufflepuff replied with his hand in the air. He grinned at Mel and Tenacius - they were naming all the shows he liked!

This Hufflepuff looked rather excited about the topic. His excitement rubbed off on her somewhat and she grinned again. “I believe so too, Me Leonard!” Another student who was all about Superheroes! Lovely!

Kaysha nodded. “Yes, indeed! Bonding with loved ones is done quite easily with animated shows.’’ The Guidry family sounded as though it just may be a happy one. “Bugs is quite brilliant, don’t you think? I love the way he wriggles out of tight situations.’’

“Only fifteen minutes? But I’m pleased to hear you used those minutes to watch Superhero shows. Marvel and DC comics both made some really great ones back then.’’ Kay grinned. The little curly haired boy had a fondness for insects? Or was he just saying that to tease Katherine? Whatever the reason, his remarks to the girl amused her.

Ilia was in terrible need of getting more lessons on Muggles. Kay had deduced this during their very first class. “That’s a pity, Ms Valke. Perhaps you would want to check out the Fun Room. There are lots of muggle electronics there and you can enhance your knowledge by using them. There are even televisions.’’ She felt sorry for Ilia and would love it if the girl could take the time to learn more about Muggles as she was doing now.

As the reasons were being listed, Kay had used her marker to neatly scribble the answers on her board, joining the ones that had been there prior.

"Now, you have all touched on important points. As you can see many of you believe animated shows are rather beneficial. For those of you who were influenced by your families as to not focus on Muggle life, it is my hope that you would sometime take the opportunity to change this. We can all learn a thing or two from Muggles.'' Kay hoped that her time here at Hogwarts could be spent bridging the gap that had been created between some students and their opinions of the muggle world.

"Alright, everyone!'' The woman capped her marker and set it down. "Here's the final question before we move on to the activity. Ms Moss mentioned earlier she preferred technology driven animation. Which would you prefer and why?''

OOC: Hi, all! This is the final question before the activity which will commence in 24 hours. Once again, I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying reading your responses! <3

Azura was really enjoying this lesson after she had gotten over her embarrassment about forgetting the rules. Talking about bonding with Wes had sent her back to happier time.

She listened as the Professor spoke and she tilted her head a little in thought as she thought about which she preferred.

She raised her hand after some careful thought and started to speak. "I prefer hand drawn animation, it might not be as crisp or clean as Technology based animation, but you are seeing an artist in the show, their hard work and artistic talent is displayed for you on the screen, and it makes it really special to see. "

She wished she could draw and animate. Her mind briefly went to Jasper as she put her hand down and waited for the others responses.

DaniDiNardo 05-18-2016 05:55 PM

"No. I don't, Professor." To answer her question. "For the average wizard, they have very little to offer that we ourselves don't have in one form of the other. I suppose for myself some things could prove useful but I'm an anomaly." A word his quill had used once. You had NO IDEA how long he'd been waiting to use it in a sentence. "I don't like magic but muggle things don't impress me either." In truth, he liked magical things, not mundane ones. Magic itself was his only obstacle. "I think everything muggles make can be improved with a touch of magic--so long as I'm not the one applying it."

As for his preference....he didn't have one...? Didn't really understand the difference despite everything his classmates had been spouting. Was there truly a difference? Did it matter?

Not for the life of him could he see why differentiating the two would make an impact on him when he didn't watch, regardless. As a result, the boy opted to keep his mouth shut.

Nothing to add really. He was still lost in this discussion.

Hiraeth 05-18-2016 06:23 PM

Mason was sooooo lost.

She had absoloutely no idea what Professor Kay was talking about. Muggles just sat around watching a light-box? Were there like people inside of it that entertained them or something?

She didn't have a clue, since *cough cough* she didn't have any Muggle-yness in her family. The only Muggle thing that they had in the house was a talyphone or something like that, it was supposedly used to talk to each other. . . which didn't make sense at all, cause that was what owls were for.

So she just kept her mouth shut and scribbled down what was being said, even if she had zero clue about Muggles and their mundane-lives, she was here to learn about them, broaden her horizon on erm, other cultures.

She could only imagine what her ancestors would say if they saw her now, she knew for a fact that Geroldis would have a fit. . .

Ameh 05-18-2016 08:47 PM

But...

"You just asked us for our favourite ones, though," the small Slytherin said quietly, frowning at the woman. "You didn't say they had to be hand-drawn, just that they had to be our favourites."

And everyone else's favourites were all really really old. Sure, there were some movies and stuff that everyone knew about even though they were seventy or eighty years old... the classics, as the professor had said. But most people wouldn't name those as their favourites out of everything overall, would they? It just seemed strange. The most he could do was chalk it up to the Wizarding World being far, far behind the Muggle world when it came to certain things. After all, they still used quills and stuff regularly... probably shouldn't expect that wizards were any quicker on the pickup of media than they were on writing implements.

Poor wizards. Hopefully they'd catch up someday and their grandkids would be able to watch Smash Melonball and Universal Knowledge too. By then though, there would be lots of newer stuff to watch... they'd be perpetually behind. What a shame.

As for the topic of computer generated versus hand-drawn...

"Computer generated," Jaemin said, rather flatly. "Most everything that comes out anymore is computer generated... drawing stuff by hand takes too long for it to be used for anything that's not artsy and big-headed about itself anymore."

He didn't think he'd ever seen a hand-drawn cartoon show in his life... maybe a movie or two, but they were rare in themselves and he didn't really notice much of a difference, overall.

Grrr..Meow 05-19-2016 01:34 AM

Echo had no clue why which one was better but she might as well give out an answer "well it looks like the computer animations would be faster right? if they had to draw each one by hand and by each frame that would take like forever???" plus clearly the muggles didnt have any magic to make them move, which would totally help them out alot more.

"if i were an employer, id want something that takes less time, which equals less money" thanks dad, his lessons always drilled in her head. Thinking like an executive than a teenage girl, all she needed as a power suit.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 05-19-2016 01:42 AM

Rula didn't have any favorite animations since she hadn't really watched any as a kid, and she didn't have a reason for why outside of her family being magical, so they didn't have the things that were needed to play Muggle shows. Sooo she also didn't really have a preference over hand drawn or technology driven animation. Both were probably just fine anyway.

She jotted down a couple notes but otherwise remained silent and simply listened to the others' answers.

Well, that is a rather good question. Why do they opt to watch or not watch cartoons? Jace kept quiet as he sat back and pulled on his bangs in thought. He never really gave the idea much thought while doing it, since, it’s all about enjoying the show and creativity of the animators. Watching a good cartoon series felt like reading a good book to him, so perhaps his purpose of watching it is to be inspired by the artists’ creativity. He liked the feeling of being challenged once in a while.

And what did he actually prefer? When Azura offered her answer, Jace briefly looked at her and somehow, began to understand her. Hand-drawn cartoons gave the classic/nostalgic vibe to the show, often times, it’s reeking with a romantic theme. Hmm. Maybe that explains why she is very emotional with almost everything. Sighing, Jace raised his hand to answer, “I prefer digitally rendered cartoons, sensei. It’s more fluid and smooth to the eyes than hand-drawn ones, plus it gives good balance to the story-telling portion.” One simply does not base the quality of the cartoons on graphics alone. There must be substance to the whole thing as well.

Dot wrinkled her nose and considered the list as it went up on the board. She hadn't heard of many examples people gave, but it was awfully interesting how diverse all of their experiences were, even in the limited contact some of them had with the Muggle world.

"I don't think it matters, Professor. I mean, the technologically advanced or not advanced cartoons alike are... the point is the story. That's all. The point is the entertainment, and that value is there regardless of how fancy it is."

itsjustjesse 05-19-2016 02:26 AM

Melbourne looked up at Professor Stewart and grinned at the Professor. When she made the comment to Tenacius about liking action shows…that was really true. She did nod when the comment about her liking both action and softer shows…that was well, very true. Especially with the fact that she also like a lot of those old cartoons they sometimes played on the old-time television stations.

Mel glanced over to Blaise when she heard what he said about his dad thinking the shows weren’t enriching. Sure, sometimes they might not have been the best things out there? But still…she always thought they were great for their imagination.

When asked which she would prefer Mel chewed her lip questioning as she wondered on it. Raising her hand she smiled up at Professor Stewart, “for me…I think I have a mixed preference? Some of the more modern technology driven animations can be really nice, though I think there is a sense of beauty and artistry in the hand done animations?”

Clara beamed at the Professor when she brought up Mulan's dragon, Mushu. She had very fond memories of watching that movie as a young child. Clara listened to some others' responses as well, finding all opinions equally fascinating and valuable. Every minute or so, she would hear something that caught her attention, and so she jotted a little note down, careful not to try to write down everything that was said.

The professor soon asked a final question and Clara sat up straight, fixing her posture quite a bit. Technology driven animation...hm...Clara racked her brain for thoughts, trying to remember if she had ever seen an instance of the concept.

"Professor, I think that I don't prefer one thing over the other. All animation serves some sort of purpose and that is to entertain, whether it is on a simple comical level or on a deeper more emotional level. That being said, I do understand why technology driven animation has had a spike in popularity. Taking something innovative and pairing it with art is never a bad thing. You go with what the times tell you to do, and the future is full of possibilities at all moments. And honestly, using technology to enhance animation is a wonderful investment, in my opinion."

littledhampir 05-19-2016 04:07 AM

Olly had to think about her question. Did he prefer technology driven animation or something that was hand drawn? Did it matter? He didn't know if he'd be able to tell the difference while watching. Well, maybe that wasn't true. He wasn't extremely artistic but he did like it, so on second thought he concluded that he could probably tell the difference.

"I don't think one would be better than the other, professor. They're different of course but have the same value. I think it's good to have variety because if everything was the same it would get pretty boring."

WhittyBitty 05-19-2016 04:35 AM

Esme nodded along with what Professor Stewart was telling her. She understood and knew it was true. Of course she didn't NEED cartoons to bond with her sister because they had other ways to do that, but it was still something that they could share. It WAS amazing that her dad had gotten them into cartoons because it was something that they could enjoy.

Jotting down more notes, she listened to the next question before raising her hand. "I don't think it matters much either way as it's more important to get the message across than it is to draw by hand or use digital imaging. If I had to choose, however, I would say I prefer hand drawn. As Azura mentioned, you get to see the artwork of the artist come to life on the screen. It's more PERSONAL than digital images and I like that." Just her two cents on the matter.

Steelsheen 05-19-2016 04:39 AM

Did he like action? He just realized that. Perhaps… but moreso that he gravitated towards interesting. What the Professor doesn’t know that his non-cartoon consumption were almost always some kind of Geekery related. Gryffindor heart, Ravenclaw brains. Sorting Hat knew its thing mmhm.

But the Professor doesn’t know what Visionaries is?? "I can show you!" he offered eagerly. Its so awesome he wants to share it with fellow Wizards! Because its as close as real Magical Representation on TV. It matters eh.

Wait… so they were made to choose between traditional animation and computer animated cartoons?? Oh wow tough call. Very tough, specially for one who grew up watching both. Dexter's Lab was traditional animation, Jimmy Neutron was CGI. He loved them both. This time the normally exuberant and talkative Gryffindor grew quiet as he considered things.

Finally he said this "Well Professor… the reason why I really love cartoons is because of the story-- its entertaining, its informative, its exciting and funny and sad and all of that. But I think the best example is this cartoon called Legend of Korra-- that was done with both traditional and computer graphics animation, and so far its one of the prettiest cartoons ever done." well other than the fact that the characters were also very pretty. Because Asami rawr. "It had the kind of personal touch that traditional animation has-- which computer graphics animation tend to lose, but Korra incorporated CGI where it can, so it had the spectacle that traditional animation couldn’t achieve before."

That’s why the answer is both. At least as far as this cartoon aficionado was concerned.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-19-2016 10:32 AM

Fiyero couldn't believe his ears. Professor Stewart liked Pokemon too? Who knew! Well, that just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover, he thought.

He had to stifle a laugh when Professor Stewart asked which style if animation they preferred. It was a good thing his mom and dad weren't here or World War 3 would've broken out in the middle of the classroom! His mother liked the classic hand-drawn cartoons, while his father preferred computer animation.

But which style did Fiyero like better? He had to really think about it before finally raising his hand. "I like hand-drawn," he said. Sorry, Dad! "There's a lot if variety to the styles of hand-drawn animation, and you get less if an uncanny valley with the character design."

Fiyero shuddered as he suddenly remembered a movie with particularly creepy computer animation, where the people sll looked like robots.

Kolyander 05-19-2016 01:19 PM

A small smile tugged at her lips and she shifted in her seat listening to the replies of her classmates. As the lesson slowly progressed Hady reached for her quill and began taking down all that notes that were appearing on the board. Might as well take down all the information if she was sitting here during the lesson. Just because her mood wasn't her typically cheery merrier usual one didn't mean she wasn't a good student.

Pushing a strand of long brunette hair from her face she lifted her hand to reply to the next question without even giving it much thought. "The way a show is made doesn't much matter to me, I watch a show because I like it not because of it being hand-drawn or that it has better graphics. A show could have the most high tech animation out there but that doesn't make it worth watching." Her answer probably wasn't what Professor Stewart had been looking for but it was an honest reply.
