Gryffindor Lions' Den

http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/...dor/theden.png
[ map ]

The official home of the Lions, the Gryffindor common room, is found on the seventh floor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The entrance to the common room is the portrait of the delightful Fat Lady. In order to gain entrance to your home away from home, Lions must know the password and speak it to her - assuming she isn't forcing you to listen to her sing of key that is.

This term's password is 'rom shaht'.

Be sure to remember those words. Keep them secret, keep them safe. Without them the Fat Lady won't swing away from the hole and allow you to enter Gryffindor Tower and you'll be stuck picking your nose while waiting for a housemate to let you in. Once you're lucky enough to scramble through, you'll find yourself in the central common room (a perfectly circular area full of squashy armchairs, fluffy beanbag chairs, and tables, now referred to as the 'Lions' Den'. The large circular space has two adjacent rooms, the reading room and the game lounge, equipped with the resources and materials required to complete any homework assignments and distract oneself from doing any homework at all. Fixed to the wall by the windows you will find the pasteboard for classes and other school announcements.

The windows, wedged between falling tapestries and portraits of Heads of House past, look out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace takes up a large section of the wall near the entrance to the common room. It's the perfect place to relax and hang out after a long day of classes. If however you are in need of a nap a good night's rest then there are two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. Boys' dormitories are upstairs and to the right above the reading room, while girls' dormitories are upstairs and to the left above the game lounge. Be sure you don’t go breaking any of the rules by attempting to go up the wrong staircases. Boys don’t stand a chance of beating the enchanted staircase, and frankly girls should know better.

For whatever reason you're here, make sure you take good care of your home away from home. There's bound to be a perfect or your Head of House lurking in the shadows making sure you stay out of trouble...or ready to join in on whatever mischief you may be up to. This is Hogwarts after all. Anything can happen!

First years! Transfer students! Anyone else!

After leading the first years, transfer students, and anyone else that decided to tag along from the Great Hall, Frankie quickly looked back at his followers just to make sure no one managed to get themselves lost. With all the heads he had counted in the hall there, he muttered the password to the Fat Lady and continued onward into the heart of the tower.

"This is the Gryffindor Common Room," the blond said as he went to stand by the fireplace. He paused before continuing on, allowing everyone to get a good look at the place. "The only way you can get in here is by telling the Fat Lady the password 'rom shaht.' If you forget, you will be stuck listening to the Fat Lady sing while waiting for someone to let you in. Her singing is more fatal than banshee cries FYI. So, do your best to remember those words." Blue eyes looked at each of those gathered around him. They all understood that, right?

"Now, the common room is a place for us all to socialize, help each other with homework, and chillax. Currently we are all in the central part of the common room," Frankie stated, making a gesture at the armchairs, beanbags, and sofas surrounding them. He then pointed over everyone's heads to the rooms near the staircases. "Beyond that is a reading room and game lounge. Pretty self-explanatory, I think. And by the window over there is a pasteboard, which is where all of our classes and other announcements will posted over the course of the term."

Woofta! This was a lot of information to process. Again, the prefect paused to let his words sink in. He still had one more thing to mention before the painful part was over and they could take a moment to introduce themselves before heading off to bed.

"Last thing I need to tell you all: the dormitories are up those stairs. Girls, you will go up the stairs to the left. Boys, up the stairs to your right. Room assignments have been posted, and your belongings have already been brought up for you thanks to the house-elves." He was sure a few of them were wondering about where all their stuff went. "Are there any questions before I hand things over to Kaycee?"

Evie had begun bouncing on the balls of her feet the moment the group of students had stopped in the common room. She was itching to be able to dance, but knew that she may not get to do that for a while yet. She listened as an older boy explained things to them, she wasn't even sure that he had told them his name. shrug she listened carefully. Girls dorms to the left, belongings already there by the house-elves. "What is a house elf?" she asked more to herself and didn't even realize she was speaking out loud until it was too late. Looking around embarrassed and confused by this knowledge that there was something called a house elf.

MadMadamMalfoy 05-07-2016 10:44 AM

Fiyero filed in with the rest of the first years, looking around the room. So this was the Gryffindor common room? Well, it seemed homey...

The thought crossed his mind to pull out his camera and snap a few shots, but he decided now wasn't the best time for a photo-op. The other people gathered around probably wouldn't take too kindly to being blinded by the flash.

The older blond boy who'd led them up from the feast - Fiyero assumed he must be a prefect - started speaking. "Rom shaht"? Now that was a funny password! Fiyero was only half listening as the other boy went on... something about banshee cries and chillaxing.

Hold in a second! Game lounge?! That got Fiyero's attention. Maybe there was a way to play Quidditch in there...

When the boy had stopped talking, a girl asked what a house elf was. A bug-eyed little creature with enormous ears that does all the chores nobody else wants to do, Fiyero mentally replied. He opened his mouth to answer her question but decided it eould probably be better to let the older boy do it.

Bec couldn't believe they had to climb this many stairs to get to their common room. Her legs hurt from climbing but she didn't say a word about it. Instead, she kept walking behind the other first years while looking around at the castle. She was already mapping the place in her mind as she needed to get back to the Great Hall tomorrow morning.

After listening to the password to the common room, Bec climbed through the hole and once she stood inside of her new home she let out a soft gasp. She loved it already. The colours, the fireplace , the game room...everything! Bec listened to the Prefect speak eventhough she was not looking directly at him. She did turn her head towards Evie when she asked what house elves were and she raised an eyebrow. She didnt know what house elves were? Either she was muggleborn or she had been under a rock. "Do you have a girlfriend?" she suddenly asked the Prefect as he asked if anyone had questions. "is she pretty?" hey he had never told them what kind of questions.

Also, hi Fiy! She waved at him.

LilFox06 05-07-2016 06:28 PM

Kaycee tailed behind the group to make sure nobody got lost. The climb through the castle seemed soooo much longer when she had to herd children. Once they finally reached the common room, she helped herself to a seat on the couch and watched her co-Prefect do his prefect thing.

Rules. Yes, those were important. She was going to let him handle that. She glanced around the room to make sure that everyone was listening and to mentally keep track of any potential troublemakers.

... and then did her best not to laugh at that question. Go ahead Frankie. Answer that one.

Fiyero's blond head whipped around at the sound of another voice. He immediately recognized the speaker as Bec, the girl he'd met at the feast. He couldn't help but snicker. Just when he thought nothing funny was going to happen tonight...

He had to clap a hand to his mouth, trying in vain to stifle his laughter. His face flushed red, making him match the decor. He couldn't wait to see how the prefect was going to react; this was going to be priceless! Now he really wanted his camera!

Once he'd regained his composure, he saw Bec wave at him and waved in return. "What kind of question was that?!" he whispered to her, hoping the prefects wouldn't hear him.

Zoe 05-09-2016 12:38 AM

Naturally, it didn't take very long for the first years to start asking questions. Some where genuinely good, and Frankie hoped that kind of curiosity would carry over into the upcoming lessons. But then some of the other questions were ... not exactly necessary. It took every fibre in his being not to roll his eyes or scowl at the ones who blurted the first thing that popped into their little noggins.

The blond blinked twice when the girl asked what house-elves were. He was a little taken aback that she didn't know, and he was also not sure if that was a question that she wanted them to hear. Just by looking at her, the sixth year could tell that she was both embarrassed and confused. Was she a Muggleborn? He was sure that there was a book somewhere on the book shelves that would get her on the same page as the other first years (not that he actually read it, of course). "They're little creatures, 'bout a couple feet tall, with big ears and squeaky voices," he explained, demonstrating just how small they were with his hands. "They're the ones that do the cooking and cleaning around here. Odds are you won't see them much, but they do pop up every now and then." With a swift nod of his head, he moved on to the next question...

Only to give one of the girls a look the instant the words left her mouth. Did he have a girlfriend? Was she pretty? Frankie wanted to know why a first year was so interested in the love life of their prefect. The blond quickly shot a look at Kaycee, who seemed to be rather amused by the girl's set of questions, that said Just you wait 'til you're the one on the hot seat.

As he opened his mouth to respond to the girl's question, the older boy managed to hear one of the blond-headed boys whisper. They all thought having a girlfriend was funny, did they? Ugh. First years. "Yes, I have a girlfriend. And, yes, she is very pretty. Sorry to crush anyone's hopes and dreams." This time he rolled his eyes.

"If there aren't any more serious questions, then Kaycee will take over from here."

Danielle_Daughn 05-09-2016 05:58 AM

Evie whipped her head around and stared open mouthed at Bec as she asked the Prefect if he had a girlfriend. She couldn't believe that someone her own age would ask such a thing. Just as fast as her head turned to look at Bec she turned it back to look at Frankie the prefect. She watched as he warred with his own feelings about the questions that the smaller children asked. And watched his exasperated expression as he registered her muttered question about the house-elves. If she had not been blushing before she was beet red now. As fascinating as these creatures sounded, the look on the prefects face was enough to know that she really didn't need to be asking her questions aloud.*

The sad part of all this was that she was not just a muggle, she was half witch. Her mother's family were all witches and wizards. sigh She really wished that she understood more of everything. Maybe she would write to her mother, maybe her mother could give her her grandparents address and she could even write them. Find out who they are, what they do, and why it was such a bad thing for her father and mother to love one another.. If they still did. Slowly Evie pulled herself from her own thoughts, long enough to hear the prefect answer Bec's question.*

Hera 05-10-2016 02:28 AM

He'd come up before the first years grand tour of DON'T FALL OFF THE STAIRCASE, so he was in prime position to watch and laugh at Frankie playing Prefect. He could laugh at Kaycee too, but it wouldn't be as genuine. It wouldn't be as heartfelt as teasing his bro - which was truly entertaining.

Bliss.

From his spot on the couch in front of the fire, laying on his back with his hands behind his head, Zeke couldn't help but stifle a laugh as Frankie's love life came into question.

HA!

First years were crack ups, they really were.

Samantha entered the common room with her friends. She still had the grin on her face from where her cousin had called her a warrior princess.Honestly she liked it better than Mel's suggestion. Yeah, she was awesome. They were continuing their conversation from earlier, though she for one was out out breath. Who on earth decided their common room needed to be at the very top of the school?

"Mel, you said earlier, you wanted to come up with our own language. You mean like those runes things? And why? What for? So we can talk about that movie you guys wanted to watch?" Honestly, she wasn't sure about that movie. It sounded old, and if Emmaleigh didn't want Ace to see it, she was pretty sure she wasn't supposed to watch it either. "Is that... a good idea?"

"Oh, and um, Ace?"
she said almost nervously. "I was just thinking. If your mom does ask, you should, You should just tell her it was me. And don't say it was Mel, thats, not fair, she didn't do anything." She should get in trouble for it, not her friends.

Mel was slightly out of breath as she made her way to the common room and found a cozy chair in the common room…the worn out butt form years of wear was still very visible...but it wasn't as awkward as say the always slightly damp chair in the corner of the room. She was still convinced that someone's cat was peeing on it. “I like this more than the damp chair,” she muttered to her friends.

When Sam asked why she wanted to come up with their own language Mel just grinned at her…”um….yeah basically but people know runish…” she paused, “maybe like we can scream at eachother in mermish?” She shrugged…”its because…well…we don’t always want people to overhear us and sometimes we can’t escape that?” She shrugged and grinned at her friends.

“We could talk about anything and anyone and no one would know what we were saying at all!” She grinned. Yep. It was brilliant. “I mean…they have to have surveillance magic in a school this big…how else do the prefects just show up when things go wrong? Its like waitresses coming by whenever you have food in your mouth?...they just know” she wasn’t really a conspiracy person but really…this was more for her own business ideas…her gran had even suggested it.

The movie? That seemed…waaaaaaaay too advanced for Sammy…”I…I don’t think you’d like it Sammy…they they talked about sex related things in it a lot…like all the time?” Mel flushed deeply as she spoke. “M-maybe we could do something not as…vulgar? Like…I don’t know Hitchhiker one that Finn and Emm both like?”

Kaycee couldn't help but roll her eyes. First years, please. And Frankie, please.

"I'll take that as a no." she said getting up. "Alright. Well, we thought we'd do a little introduction so you all know each other. I'm Kaycee. I'm a 6th year. I'm originally from Miama in the States. I transferred here when I was a third year. Before Hogwarts, I was homeschooled."

Just a little bit of history, before heading in to the fun stuff.

"I'm a dancer. Hip hop, specifically. I compete over the breaks. If you guys are ever interested, I'd be happy to show you a few things." Even if they weren't interested, she'd probably take the time to show off.

"Now, feel free to introduce yourself. Mention something that you're in to. Make friends. These people are going to be your family. Get to know them."

Introductions? Ok, cool. Fiyero's eyes darted around the common room in anticipation, but nobody spoke up. Maybe they were waiting for that other prefect to speak again... Well, he supposed he may as well go first if nobody else was going to volunteer.

"Hi, everybody!" he said, giving a friendly little wave. "I'm Fiyero Jones, but everybody calls me Fiy for short." What else could he tell them? "I'm a halfblood; my mom works at St. Mungo's, dad's a magazine editor. Before I git my Hogwarts letter, I went to mughle school. It wasn't very fun..."

He realized he was probably rambling and paused a minute to gather his thoughts before he continued, "I love Quidditch - my favorite team is the Ballycastle Bats - and photography. My grandma got me this as a going-away present-" He held up his new magical camera for the others to admire. "So if anyone ever wants a picture, alk you have to do is ask."

Marsha was up to date with her homework. And her training. And her Judo practise.

It was a miracle.

For the first time since they had come back to school she seemed to have figured out the timings and schedule she needed to follow to be up to date, still have time for Vince, best friends and to have some time to just do unscheduled, unplanned nothing.

Right now, was that time.

She was curled up in an arm chair in front of the roaring fire, idly pleating and unpleating and repleating her hair as she relaxed happily. She would likely get bored soon and go and find something to do or someone to bother… but for now she was enjoying being surrounded by the hubbub of the Gryffindor common room and her house mates.

Charms Activity post 1

Fiyero leaned against the arm of a chair, fighting to catch his breath after racing up four flights of stairs from the Charms classroom. He could've easily collapsed in a heap into the chair, but he didn't have time for that right now. He had work to do!

He glanced around to find the common room mostly empty. Good... He was a little surprised that none of his classmates had the idea to decorate the Gryffindor common room. Well, maybe they did, but he just got there first. He studied the wall for a minute, trying to decide what to paint. Then it came to him! He'd do something with the house colors; this was the Gryffindor common room after all.

Fiyero pointed his wand at the nearest wall, tracing a star shape. "Figura star!" He smiled as a large gold star appeared, but his face fell slightly at the sight of the rest of the empty wall. One down, about a hundred more to go...

His arm felt like it was going to fall off by the time he'd filled the entire wall with stars, but he did it. But he still had to color them... "Colorvaria!" he said, aiming his wand at the nearest star. It turned the same shiny metallic shade of gold as the one he'd made in charms class. After filling in all the stars he drew Fiyero turned his attention to the background. "Colorvaria!" He said again, pointing at the space between the stars; the wall turned bright scarlet. So far so good...

After drawing and coloring an entire wall's worth of stars, Fiyero was ready for a break so he decided he was only going to animate half the stars. "Animatae," he said, aiming for one of the biggest stars. He was glad that animating the stars didn't take anywhere near as long as he thought. after finishing up the last star, he took a step back to admire his handiwork. Half of the gold stars shot across the wall before bursting into a shower of gold fireworks, and Fiyero smiled. He hoped Professor Primeaux would like it as much as he did!

Noelle was sitting by a table, a potions book beside her with a paper, that looked as if it had been folded and refolded. Which it had been. She had done this potion three times now. Each more fun than the last.

The potion bottle was sitting on the table and Noelle stared at it. It was almost ready. Only.... 12 more minutes, and then she could put that potion into vials. The vials were already ready too.

She just needed time to go by a little faster.

Walking into the common room, herbology book in hand, Tim sat in an empty armchair and made herself comfortable. She had been up and down all day and didn't have much rest due to her having too much energy. Yawning a bit, she opened up her textbook and began to read for a bit. A bit that only last for about five minutes before the book was closed again. Maybe she had her fill of herbology for the day and should focus on something else. Or someone. Like the girl sitting not too far from her actually. Tim had seen her around but never really talked to the child. Yes, she was a child simply by being younger than her. Sitting up more and peeking over, the blonde had noticed a cauldron and a potions book. Now why didn't the girl just go to the lab for this?

"What are you making?" She finally spoke up and easily peered over the younger girl's shoulder. Tim looked at the page that was folded and began to read the ingredients. The said brew had a little ring to it; which Tim couldn't place right at the moment.

Okay. This was it. Dora was DONE.

Flopping backward in front of the fireplace she let out a HUFF. She had been TRYING HER HARDEST at her Astronomy homework, but to no avail. It was like her eyes kept crossing staring at the charts. UGH. It was no USE. She was clearly going to FAIL and disappoint her Head of House! CUE THE DRAMATICS!

If only there was SOMEONE who knew more about the subject than she... Sitting up she began to look through the crowd in the common room. Why was the common room always SO CROWDED?!

And then she laid eyes upon him. THE DUDE THAT HAD POSED AS A SHOPKEEPER. Clearly he was older and probably knew more about constellations than she did! And not to mention he owed her one!

"Zeke Brown!" Yep, she had learned his name. Hadn't taken long.

WHAT DID HE DO THIS TIME?! ... was his first thought the second he'd set foot IN the common room from the stairs having come from his dorm. Maybe he should have just gone to bed... or something... a nap would have been nice at least.

"Naaaw, d'you miss me?" he questioned the still LOUD second year, Dora. Yes, he knew her name now, it was hard not to considering her status amongst the younger housemates. LOUD was loud. Everyone knew LOUD. He could appreciate it though, so without hesitation he approached and plonked himself on the floor in front of her, his back to the warmth of the fireplace.

Looks. He got looks.

But that didn't last long. AS soon as Zeke plopped, Dora pounced. Well not pounced... more of just threw herself at him. Full on hugging. She needed that.

Upon releasing him she gave him a pitiful look and a dramatic sigh for good measure. Heh. "I can't figure out my Astronomy homework. Could you help me?"

Aaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

The looks he had expected, the hugging not so much... but he returned it regardless, his arms looping around her kind of awkwardly because of his position on the floor. At least it wasn't one of those looooooooong ones where he couldn't tell if the chick was crying or not. No crying. Thankfully.

... that look though.

Gah.

And oh. OH.

"Uhhhh... I might not be the best help, but, what are you working on?" Like, was she doing the whole blowing up the planets thing? Cause he'd aced that at least.

Genny walked through the portrait after having a heartfelt, funny chat with the Fat Lady, and made it straight to the comfortable big couch where she flopped down. Her shoes went flying in the air and feet crossed at the ankles were resting on the couch's arm to give her the real sense that she'd been growing significantly since her thirteenth birthday (she hadn't been growing, no). She crossed her arms and laid them behind her head, too.

1... 2... 3...

Okay, she was bored. Her eyes started scanning the big room searching for something distracting before she had to go out again and seek adventure herself.

*crashes* :D

Frankie had taken over one of the tables on the far side of the common room so he could get some Herbology reading done. In between a few paragraphs, pausing because very little of it was making sense in his mind, he would glance around the room and do a status check on everything in the room -- the furniture, who was coming and going, etc. Needless to say, it was oddly quiet in the lions' den today. Way too quiet for his liking.

Managing to get through a record page and a half without stopping (ugh, was this chapter ever going to end?), the blond looked up from the textbook to do another sweep of the room. He could have swore he heard someone come in not too long ago.

The prefect peeked around the corner, seeing that no one was in either the game or reading rooms. He then cupped his ear, pleased that he didn't hear anything crazy going on upstairs. After he peered over at the large sofa by the fireplace ... why, hello there, Genny Tate. Was she bored or something?

Reaching into his pocket, Frankie slowly pulled out his wand and gave it a flick from beneath the table, not a single word leaving his mouth. He slid it back into his pocket and looked down at his textbook as if he was completely oblivious to what happened next. The sofa the girl was sprawled on suddenly transformed into a fluffy white sheep.

Inside was definitely too boring for her, and she had decided in her mind only a second before what happened next to jump off the couch and head outside again, but this time she'd go all the way to the lake or the forbidden forest. However, she did not have the chance to act because all of the sudden the couch was not as wide or flat as it was a second ago.

In fact, it was too cushiony and... "WH--" Genny exclaimed, flailing about to keep her balance and sit upright. Her legs wrapped around the end of the sheep tightly without going all the way because let's face it, she did not grow THAT much. Her hands clutched the soft, soft wool. "HUH??" WOOL? Eyes so wide the whites almost overtook the brown, Genny started looking from side to side so quickly her bum was basically bouncing on the sheep's back. "There's a sheep under me!!!" It wasn't the loveliest thing to shriek from someone who claims to be so balanced.

HOW? WHy?? She leaned forward on the back of the sheep and looked around, seeing no one close aside from the Prefect sitting faaaar on that table buried in his book. UHMM??

Her confusion subsided when the sheep did not seem to be aggressive or agitated, and she found herself grinning and trying to sit properly on it like a horse instead of sitting with her face towards its... bum.
