The libraries, both the Hogwarts' and the Eagle library in the Ravenclaw common room quickly grew to be some of Haddie's favorite places in Hogwarts, much to her own dismay. Her favorite places were libraries. Seriously what the heck? I mean, neither were like Libraries she'd been in back in the muggle world, but still.

It was another sword of doubt in her steadfast conviction that the sorting hat was an idiot on top of being a jerk. And that she was the lioness she's always seen herself as. Not an Eagle. Despite that though, she still found herself in the libraries whenever she wasn't hanging out with friends, or in classes, or sleeping, or eating, or ---Haddie glanced around her--- or doing something the prefects wouldn't be too happy about.

She wasn't a nerd though. Or a brainiac. No way. Uh-huh. She was only in the Hogwarts library to figure out how one becomes an animagus, a newly set goal of hers, and one that was a bit tricky to figure out. Or trying to figure out what sort of spells she'd need to do to pull off some of her more... ehhhhhh, colorful ideas. Yeah, colorful works.

And it wasn't the Eagle Library even. It was the attached art nook, that she coveted. It was a serene and surreal place, with a gorgeous view, and the lulls of the wind outside the tower that would remind her of the San Andreas winds back home. A place that seemed saturated with creativity and inspiration. Some days she'd paint, trying to hone her skills as an artist, crucial for an idea she had, as well as figure out how to make the living art that hung everywhere in Hogwarts. She'd really have to talk to Professor Finch about that.

Other days, like today, she's sit on the raised back of the chairs, leaning against the wall so she could stare out the window as she wrote in that journal of hers with the silver letters that read Hadley Denaker's Book of Ideas, and in smaller silver letters underneath, Not for you. No one, not even Rachel or Ailsa were allowed to peek in that journal. On these days, like she was currently doing, she spent more time staring out the window than writing or sketching in her book.

Her brown eyes looked up in awe at the wall which was covered with an extensive amount of books all the way up to the ceiling. It was her dream to one day own a huge library and the shelves would be touching the ceiling too.

Her attention was caught by something silvery hovering nearby. Taking a closer look, she saw it was the Grey Lady. Rachel smiled. She liked this ghost so she skipped over to her. "Penny for your thoughts, Lady Helena.''

Staring out over the grounds and at a raggedy tent that had to her knowledge not been there before the transparent Lady didn't hear Rachel come in, until she addressed her. Turning to look over at the young first year Helena greeted slowly. "Hello Rachel," a moment's pause later she asked pensively "Do you find me intimidating Rachel?"

It was a question that had burned on her tongue since the previous night and she was desperate for an answer from someone. She did not want to bother Sir Nicholas just yet.

The library in the Ravenclaw common room was the best place ever. They had a library in the common room. It was a dream come true. So many books that she could read right here. The art nook was also a brilliant place. Penelope liked to draw in the art nook. There was a spectacular view out the window of the grounds, the lake, the forbidden forest, the quidditch pitch, the herbology greenhouses, and a tent. A tent? Weird. "Why is there a tent in the middle of the grounds?" That would be going in the mysteries that should be investigated section of her questions notebook. She was pretty sure that it hadn't been there last year, and it didn't really look like it belonged there. Penelope pulled out her questions notebook to write questions about the tent.

Penelope approached the spot where Haddie was sitting. "Hi Haddie!" It was a good spot to sit, one that Penelope had found to be great for reading, thinking, and writing in her journal when there weren't too many people around. "They have charms to prevent people from reading your journal." She had charms on her journal so no one else could read it. Most people would not be able to open it, as they would need to know the counter spells. Anyone who would go as fas as stealing someone's journal and trying to perform counter spells on the protective measures was a creep and deserved detention. The charm should work just fine to protect the secrets of a teenage witch. She wasn't disturbing Haddie from thinking, was she? Along with calling people stupid, disrupting the thought process when one was thinking about something important was one of the worst things anyone could do.

That got Haddie's attention. She perked up and looked at Penny eager and excited. "Really?" She glanced down at her open journal, and blew on the last bit of ink she had put down to make sure it was dry. Then she closed the book and returned her attention to Penny. "What kind of charms? What do they do?" And finally the most important question. "Can you teach them to me?"

Flushing out all the negative thoughts inside his head, the eleven year old half-Japanese Ravenclaw decided to explore his new home before tackling his Charms book for tomorrow’s first lesson. Jace naturally gravitated towards the wall full of books, and ran his hand on the neatly arranged books on one of the shelves. His papa never mentioned about this feature before, so he assumed that the mini-library was new addition.

A small smile formed on his face as he remembered discussing a similar idea to Teddy. The smile however, didn’t last long because there was a spectre standing near the window. A real...ghost. Questions...questions formed inside his tiny head, at the same time, reprimanded himself for staring. Ghost or not, it was still rude.

“Ko-konnichiwa.” Jace stuttered as he greeted the ghost a good afternoon, in Japanese. The eleven year old bowed his head in her direction, hoping he wasn’t blushing too much.

"Are ghosts frightening? Is it our transparentness?" Helena queried of Rachel as young Jace Reed joined them by the windows overlooking the grounds. Respectfully bowing his head at her too. The Lady was about to respond in kind when he stuttered out something out that made her float backwards slighty in confusion. Helena did not like being confused so she tried to play along, bowing her head elegantly at him. "Koonichiwawa to you, Mr Reed?" Could Jace know explain what he had just said?

Jace’s eyes glimmered as the ghost of Lady Helena moved...and tried to speak his language. He bit his lip, trying his best not to laugh as she...well, butchered the greeting.

“Kon-nichiwa, Lady Helena.” He spoke more slowly this time, correcting her subtley. “It means, good afternoon in Japanese. Konnichiwa.” Jace grinned, nodding at the ghost and sort of, encouraged her to repeat after him. It was always so fun to teach others his mother tongue.

Jace was in awe. The choice of remaining in the world after one’s life has ended went beyond his reasoning. Unfinished business perhaps? Or the world is truly a fascinating thing that some just can’t let go? The 11 year old juggled the questions in his mind, and was surprised at the query being thrown at Rachel.

Was she frightening? Jace quickly glanced at Rachel...and then back to the ghost. He supposed, he could answer that question too for her, yes?

Jace tilted his head as he composed his answer in his mind, a small grin graced his young face. “Perhaps...you are, if seen by eyes not accustomed to seeing ghosts. Or...it must be simply because they could not explain, or make reason of what they’re seeing. I’d be afraid of you if I didn’t have the slightest idea as to why...you are in such state.” Merlin, hopefully he made sense. This would have been easier if she spoke Japanese.

Learning the charm was the most important part, and learning what it did was part of learning the charm. "I can teach you a charm that will protect your journal with a password and your thumbprint. Rachel's reassurances that she was a lovely sweet woman and not all intimidating did not sooth Helena's mind in the slightest. Not yet. Too many unanswered questions. Fiddling with hem of her right dress sleeve Helena admitted. "I scared some first years and a sixth year at the start of term feast. I fear that they hate me now." She could be emotional. She had feelings. Just because she was not exactly living anymore didn't mean she couldn't feel.

Furrowing her brows in more confusion at Jace's words Helena floated closer to him asking "You mean like muggles? Because children of magical descent know how ghost become ghosts, or don't you two know that?"

Rachel found Jace's Japanese habits quite adorable. But the Grey Lady mispronunced it, which could happen to anyone. She herself repeated the word in her head. She knew it was a greeting and this was confirmed by Jace.

She found herself nodding at her friend's explanation. "I agree with him, Lady Helena. Muggles especially but I had the feeling that you were referring to someone with wizarding blood.'' Rachel did not think that the ghost lady would go around showing herself to non magical persons. How right she was.

"But that was just an accident. I know you didn't mean to do that. Anyone would be startled if they saw a ghost pop out of nowhere. It's the same for humans when they appear suddenly.'' Rachel smiled again. "Oh, Lady Helena. You have nothing to worry about. No one can hate you.'' She was the sweetest ghost ever.

Haddie grabbed for her quill before she grabbed for her wand, and opened her journal. The ink she dipped her pen in was violet, and glittery. "Clow-sal-tus," she said it out loud as she wrote it down. She didn't need to ask how to spell it, because that, frankly wasn't important. How to say it, phonetically, that's what she needed. She could write that by sounding it out. "Ob-firm-oh." After blowing on the ink to dry it, she began to diagram the hand movements Penny had shown, all the while repeating the incantation. "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o. Clowsaltus Obsfirmo. Obfirmo, obfirmo. Obfirmo. Clowsallus...saltus. Clowsaltus obfirmo." She set her quill down, blew on the ink and repeated the incantation a few more times.

The ink was dry so she closed her journal and repeated the incantation yet a few more times, while pulling her wand out of her sleeve. "This is Kira," the first year told Penelope, showing her the wand for a moment, before practicing. Her wand movements were slow and precise, but even then she'd trip up. Not really getting a pause between the second and last flick, or giving it another short flick instead of a long flick at the end. She seemed to catch those, though, and would do her best to correct them. Every so often, she'd pick up the speed and repeat the process. Whenever she got consistent at the current speed, she'd speed up.

Then after a few minutes, she announced, "I'm going to try it now. Clowsaltus obfirmo, clowsaltus obfirmo, clowsaltus obfirmo." She gave herself a quick refresher of the incantation then aimed her wand that her journal. "Clowsaltus Obfirmo!" It was a bit sloppy over all.

Afterwards she just stared at the book for a moment. Did it work? It'd open for her either way, well, hopefully. She picked up the book and confirmed it still opened for her, then handed it to Penelope. "Okay, try to open it. But don't read anything if it does open."

Jace moved closer to the ghost so he could take a better look at her. It was amazing to encounter such form! Jace couldn’t imagine the amount of memories and information she must be carrying now. The Ravenclaw looked at Rachel, and nodded in agreement. “Or they are not just used to seeing such forms.” He added, offering the ghost a grin. “I don’t see any reason why they should hate you. They ought to know that you are part of this castle, as much as we are.” He said, fixing his uniform’s cuff discreetly. “I suppose not everyone can handle surprises very well.” Like him, actually.

Jace looked up at her as soon as Lady Helena hovered closer. My goodness. Not everyone can say he can talk to spectres! “Just because one is of magical decent, doesn't mean that he knows...” Jace trailed off. “Not everyone is as curious, I believe.” He said wondering if she’s already convinced with his answer.

"I was talking of someone of wizard blood yes, " Helena admitted thoughtfully. Seeing a little shred of hope in Rachel's words she asked "So if I tried to make my presence known somehow before floating up through a table for example, then student's wouldn't be as startled?" But how would she manage that? She could not touch things owned by the living.

Jace words combined with Rachel's did make Helena feel better. Maybe she wasn't as ghastly and intimidating as she had feared after all but then oh horror what if that was true."Does my transparent form make me less pretty and ladylike?" It mattered. What if that was why Sir Nicholas hadn't talked to her as much of late?

Rachel nodded. "Exactly as Jace says. There are a few reasons one can get startled but it's not always the fault of the person who appeared suddenly. Sometime persons are just not prepared of the unexpected, they have their guard down.'' Did this make sense?

"I think that would be a good idea but that would be something difficult to achieve.'' She looked at Jace to see if he had any suggestions. "Even if you spoke before showing your presence, they could be startled but as I mentioned before, that would not be your fault.''

Rachel did not need to consider that question. She shook her head. "Not even a bit, Lady Helena. I think you look very elegant and lady like.'' Whatever on Earth gave the ghost the idea the idea to ask that question?

Jace was quick to realize that there are two issues going on in here. The eleven year old tried to break it down further, and hopefully, get a brilliant answer out of it. He was a bit stuck though, seeing that he isn’t dead, and wouldn’t exactly know what to do with the living not getting startled.

The Ravenclaw looked at Rachel and nodded at her, confirming her idea. But then, the tiny half-Japanese stood straighter as he thought of something that might help the ghost. “You said something about...floating up through a table a while ago...” he said trailing off as he scratched the back of his head, “I suppose that is a bit unusual...and surprising for the living, right? We don’t exactly pass through from the floor to the ground up, but we use the door to get inside a room. Maybe you could pass through doors next time. It is less...dramatic for the faint of heart.” Jace smiled at their resident ghost. He was really happy to be exchanging words with her!

It was Jace’s turn to nod his head toward Rachel. “You are very beautiful Lady Helena, even if you're translucent.”The eleven year old blushed, obviously not used to saying girls are pretty, but he let it slip this time. “What made you ask this question though?” Jace asked as he moved closer to the window and took a peek outside. "Did something happen earlier?" because if she needed a Samurai, Jace is available to confront this person...or ghost.

Haddie's wand was named Kira. Although she had not named her own wand, Penelope did not find this strange. Penelope showed her wand to Haddie. "Mine doesn't have a name. It's 10 3/4 inch hazel with a unicorn hair core." Hopefully Haddie would have enough sense to not touch it without asking. Her wand was known to shock, burn, or turn into sausages the fingers of anyone but Penelope who touched it. In her first few years of using the wand before it was fully bonded with her it had burned her, and even set fire to her robes on its own without her touching it.

Penelope watched as Haddie practiced the spell. Haddie was doing well with the incantation. The wand work was tricky, but Haddie eventually got it. Now Haddie was trying it on the journal. "Don't worry, I won't read anything." Taking the book from Haddie, she tried to open it, and it opened. Of course she didn't read anything inside. Penelope handed the book back to Haddie. "Try again. I'm sure you'll be able to do it." Haddie was only a first year, so it was to be expected that she wouldn't always get a spell to work the first time she tried it.

Haddie's face lit up and she showed Penny Kira again. "She's 10 3/4", ebony with a unicorn hair core!" Except for the wood, the two wands were almost twins. "I looked it up too," she said. "Unicorn hair cores are very loyal and very good with charms and transfiguration, which are the two I'm most interested in. And," she was beaming proudly now, "ebony wood wands only choose people who aren't afraid to be themselves! And it's also really good for transfiguration too. And defensive and combative spells!" There was no doubt that Haddie loved and cherished every aspect of her wand. She still hadn't determined what the flexibility of wands meant though. Hers was stiff, but whatever that meant, she was sure it'd make her love Kira all the more.

"And don't worry, your wand will tell you his name eventually. Other wands have told me their names and let me tell the owners what it was, but your wand won't. He'll only talk to you." She leaned forward and whispered, "It's the unicorn core. Fiercely loyal." Leaning back and talking normal again, she assured Penny, "He will tell you though. When he's ready."

She took the book back, and practiced the movements and incantation separately a few more times. "I'll get it. But probably not today. I'll just keep practicing until I do though. Are there any other spells to protect it until I get this one? Like can I make the writing invisible where only I can make it visible again or something?"

It felt good to hear Rachel and Jaces reassurances that she was very pretty and hadn't lost her lady touch. In order to avoid startling the faint hearted they suggested that she'd rather float in through the door instead of up through the table. Helena responded. "I shall try just floating in through the door like I was one of the living to but then will I get as much attention? I've always liked to be looked at."

Could she tell them? Would they be able it to keep it to themselves. If they knew the reason. "I think Sir Nicholas is avoiding me. He did not once glance at me at the feast and he always, always does that. And he hasn't watched the stars with me in the observatory. So that's why I asked all these things. I don't want to lose Sir Nick's company and affection. I don't want to be unpretty and intimidating..." Helena confided. Would it now become the gossip of the halls?

Jace was brilliant! Rachel smiled and bobbed her head at his words so that her two plaits bounced against her shoulders. "Jace is right. You can possibly try doing other usual human habits when you're around humans, Lady Helena.'' Oh. She liked to be in the spotlight. Rachel thought this was quite the dilemma. "I think you're rather eye catching. Especially when it comes to your hair. It's very pretty.''

She suddenly had to fight the urge to become rather giggly. It sounded as thought this was a rather intriguing ghost love story. Possibly she was jumping to conclusions so she decided she would get more information first. It was back to the fact that the two House Ghosts were close friends she went. "I'm sorry to hear about that. Have you tried speaking to him? Perhaps there is something bothering him and it is weighing on his mind. You don't need to worry about being less pretty and intimidating.'' Jace's blush had not gone unnoticed either but Rachel pretended not to have seen it lest she embarrassed the samurai.

Haddie's wand Kira was similar to Penelope's wand in that it had the same kind of core and same length, but completely different because of the different wood. "Impressive. You should think about joining the dueling club if they have it this year. With a wand like that, you'll probably be good at the spells used in duels." Whether or not Haddie was any good at dueling was to be determined, but it was likely that Haddie would be able to learn the spells quickly. "Mine's very sensitive to my emotions. The hazel wood absorbs emotional energy." This had caused some issues with shocking and burning fingers, as well as that time it set fire to her robes. She hadn't had any major issues with the wand absorbing energy recently. "I've heard that hazel wands can detect water underground." He? Was there such thing as male and female wands? Did her wand really have a name? Maybe it would tell her at some time, if it really did have a name. Penelope was skeptical that wands could have genders or names. Maybe she would ask someone who knew more about wands. "Wands with unicorn cores are very faithful to their owner."

"I'm not sure about making writing invisible, but I know a spell that can reveal invisible writing." Not very useful when you didn't have a way to make the writing invisible. "You could try casting the spell again." There was probably some kind of invisible ink that could be revealed with Aparecium, but she didn't know where or how to get invisible ink. The charm was the best security.
