The Hogwarts staff are already seated when you enter the feast. Their traditional place is at a long table on a raised dais at the back of the Great Hall, with the usual Hogwarts crest hanging behind them and looking particularly nice tonight.
Feel free to come up and give your greetings to the School staff after the Headmaster has given his traditional speech. Remember your manners, children. Your professors like to have a quiet dinner too.
MR. MYERS! Paul looked up at hearing his name--and he waved eagerly at the man(Leo). "Yes--yes, I am Paul Myers. New here. Very--excited." let's go with excited. He wouldn't admit to his nerves to these new people!
"It's a pleasure to meet you very excited Paul. I'm Leobald Kitridge, school librarian." And Ravenclaw Head of House and Gobstones and Quill advisor but he chose to not add that. His colleague probably didn't need to know all his duties on the first feast night. Smiling broadly Leo instead asked. "Have you settled in all right in the green houses on the grounds Paul?" He respected those who knew how to care for and make plants thrive he didn't have green thumbs when it came to plants. To Leo it was enough that he remembered when to water the plants.

"Is this your first time at Hogwarts or did you study here in your youth?" Most that ended up teaching at Hogwarts did have it as their alma mater but not everyone. A few instantly came to mind.
It was at this moment that the transparent ghost and lady of Ravenclaw floated into the seat next to him. Inclining his head towards her Leo said "Good evening madam Ravenclaw!" Gesturing with a sweeping hand towards the eagle table he asked. "Were the eagle's behaving when you left them?" Reaching for his goblet, Leo drank several mouthfuls of juice. He had talked to the lady ghost many times but that didn't mean sitting next to one didn't make him really uncomfortable and uneasy.

Redirect focus and attention, and try to be normal. Technically, everything was normal.
Sure the question wasn't directed at him, but it sounded like a fair-game inquiry. And his description surely could use any elaboration, or clarification, the others could offer. "They make noises like.....like a cat wearing a sock over it's face." Yup. Best description he could come up with. And no, he wasn't going to try and imitate it. If the company thought Airey's sequins were bad, they would pale in comparison to mutilated sound effects.
Shifting in his chair Leo returned Sabel's smile with a warm broad one of his own as he caught the DADA man's gaze across the table. "I had a lovely summer vacation. I got to soak some sun on an exotic island for a few weeks and got to spend lots of quality time with friends and family." Letters only did so much, they could never really make up for meeting and talking to someone face to face. "Did you have a good and relaxing summer Sabel?"

Lots of time spent with the family, which is all I could ask for!" Also, lots of antiquing, much to the horror of her husband. "How was yours?"
Before Leo could answer Meredith's question Sabel interjected and gave a description of badger sounds that weren't too far off the target. Smitten by her cheerfulness Leo responded a smile playing on his lips. "Sabel's description is close to accurate. Badgers sound like cats do when they fight. They are sociable creatures that chat a lot with each other and their sounds range from deep growling to bird chirping." Please don't ask how he knew this. Leo just had first-hand knowledge with the species.
Grasping for the vacation straw maybe a little too eagerly Leo said "My summer was likewise wonderful. I got to relax and take it easy together with my family and friends." And well Cassie too. "Is antiquing popular amongst muggles?" He asked slightly dreading the answer.

Beatrice didn't think the Great Hall, in all its beauty, would ever get old, and she nodded in agreement at the Headmaster. She glanced up at the ceiling. As was the first time she came into the hall and marveled at the sights, she felt like the hall was welcoming her, filling her with a sense of purpose.
Ab had a great idea about changing the layout every other month, and she raised her eyebrows. "What a great idea!" Beatrice smiled widely, and was relieved at the thought that her layout as of now was fine. She liked change, so keeping it fresh ever few weeks would be perfect for the lass. She let out a small laugh, "Well you're not the only one. I try to keep things organised in my desk drawers for that very reason." That way she knew where things were. He was such a sweet man, and she was very much looking forward to getting to know him more as the year went on. The children were very lucky to have him as a Headmaster.
Walking to her seat, she noticed the Librarian. Ah, she had been looking forward to returning to the library again. "Hello," she greeted him. She couldn't remember the librarian from when she was at Hogwarts, but this one looked very friendly. "Mister Kitridge, is it?"
And the chair two down from her found itself occupied by a very er... extroverted lady. She hadn't meant to eavesdrop on the conversation she was having with Beatrice's neighbour, but as she looked over she saw the woman, who she realised must have been Professor Moxley, Muggle Studies Professor, pulling a face. There was a stark contrast between the two, and she couldn't help but snort out a laugh. She covered her mouth too late. "Sorry," she said, caught red handed at listening in. "I think you've got the stern face down pat. Perfect, your students will be quivering in their robes."
And then she realised, with excitement, that Moxley was the Hufflepuff Head of House. That was simply marvelous! She smiled at the woman as she welcomed her, and the other new members, on staff. "Hi, it's a pleasure to meet you," she greeted happily.
Another staffer joined the table. Beatrice had known which positions had been filled at the same time as her, and she realised that this lass was also new; charms, in fact. Beatrice smiled at her; "Hello, I'm Beatrice. You must be Astrid Baxter? It's a pleasure to meet you."
But MERLIN the Astronomy Professor was a loud one, wasn't he? Full of... some sort of energy. Beatrice found herself smiling as she watched the antics play out, completely oblivious to what he was roaring about. He seemed to be speaking to Professor Moxley, a few seats down, so Beatrice, not wanting to hide, decided to take matters into her own hands. Introductory matters, of course. She stood up to introduce herself to him, having realised the tension and feelings of the established staff from the previous term would be in the front of their minds. "You must be Professor Flamsteed? I'm Beatrice. I must say that's a delightful suit you have on."
All of the introductions was making her dizzy, so she took a few more gulps from her refilling goblet. How she couldn't wait to get past all of the introductions. She had been trying not to think of her first lesson for that very reason. All of the students who would be completely new to her, having to make introductions and get past the awkwardness of meeting people.

So, the person who was going to be the successor of Bellaire. He dearly hoped she wasn't... as harsh as her. She didn't look so. In any case, the warm meeting was good and he smiled nicely.
"I am, yeah," he said and pretended to know her surname (he forgot, okay?). "Welcome onboard." Try not to be eaten by spiders pls thank.
"You a former Hufflepuff?"
Then came Moxley, and he grinned from ear to ear.
"Thank ya," he said, then opened his mouth to take the bad auror for himself, but too late. She even worked on a stern face, which... okay no he wouldn't laugh like Beatrice, but it was funny.
"Mhmm, completely terrorising. Deal. You're the bad auror." As if a Hufflepuff ever needed even a good auror. They were... 'puffs.
Leo! Cosgrach smiled too. "I thought so too. Funny seeing me in a colour that's not green and silver." Though this scarf DID suit him. Mayve his new colour should be yellow.
"Next feast?" He could show his colours then. Not that people didn't know already... Cosgrach had this scarf to SHOW people.
The question of Helena never ceased to make him smile, and he grinned from ear to ear.
"I did, yes," he said, especially after barely surviving last year, he almost never left his family's side. "She's growing up too fast!" She was already 1 year old. The time DID fly!
...was Airey alright?..
Okay, by the way he SHOUTED - Cosgrach was going to say he was splendid. Mhmm. Good thing they were at the opposite ends of the table...
The KIDS were coming! He observed them as they filed in, trying to nod or smile at the ones he knew and then turned to watch the sorting ceremony. These new kids had better be good...
Why was that one shouting Ravenclaw? Someone should tell her she ought to sit with the Gryffindors.
"Looking good in that chair, Ab! Like it was made for you." The brunette greeted the headmaster first, noting that he looked at home in his place at the center of the table. Moxley couldn't help but think that the man was lucky. The grandfather card was an easy play and the students already respected him because of it, and the fact that he was an excellent educator, so he was going to transition into the new role with ease. She, on the other hand, might have some trouble. Especially since she wanted to squish the ickle baby badger faces every time she saw them. She was going to have to get that under control.
Botros smiled widely at professor Moxley. "Terribly nice of you to say so. The cushion is quite nice, I might say," he was going to write to Annie and tell her how much he liked the so-called throne's cushion. Though it was not a throne when he sat on it, it was just a big chair with a big occupier. He was no queen with fiery red hair, he barely had any hair left.

Maybe it had always been destined for Botros to take over the school reigns from Annie?
"Thank you... I think..." He gave Leo the same warm smile. The hall was filling up with students quickly, their chatter filled up the quietness quickly.

Body tensing and blue eyes bulging like one of those muggle novelty toys - the ones where you squeeze them and there eyes pop out of their heads and squeak - he somehow found the strength to move his eyes just enough to get visual confirmation on who was doing the hugging. But it wasn't JUST hugging. There was PATTING. BACK PATTING. HE HAD READ ABOUT THIS IN HIS BEHAVIORAL BOOKS! A person who gives you a pat on the back while they are hugging you is indicating that they are very uneasy or uncomfortable with what they're doing. The bigger the pat, the more discomfort they feel. WHICH WAS IRONIC SINCE HE COULD SAY WITH ABSOLUTELY CERTAINTY THAT IT WAS NOT THE HUGGER BUT THE HUGGEE THAT WAS FEELING UNEASY! AND THE HUGEE WAS INCAPACITATED AT THE MOMENT.
"I. Uh. You. Yes. Welcome," he mumbled upon release, the elderly man's words of friend and son registering just enough to turn the tips of the astronomer's ears an unnatural shade of red. Having been without a proper father figure for a good portion of his youth this was...uh...er...it was. "Live long and prosper," he muttered hurriedly along with the Vulcan salute before escaping dismissing himself a little bit further down the table.
Botros forgot some things, and that was his only self-acclaimed weakness. Among the things he forgot was his colleague's distaste for physical contact and it was only when Airey looked stricken and stumbled on his small words that Ab remembered. It didn't dampen his beaming face or big smile, though. The Astronomy professor had to wear a badge that said 'no hugs please' to avoid Botros' spontaneous hugs because the old man was a hardcore, typical Hufflepuff... which explained a lot. "You're welcome," he replied and watched the man retreat to his seat with the strangest salute ever. What a lovely dork.

She just had different thoughts in her mind. It wasn't the happy go lucky as it once was. That seemed to be correct and her mind was off again in her own thoughts about things.
She didn't mean to miss part of what he said, but she finally came back out of her own head to hear transition.. transition to what? OH, right! "I have a feeling you didn't need much of a transition you seem like a natural. Knowing all aspects of everything and all." She gave a smile and took a sip of water glancing away. She truly adored the man, but was still hurt by the thought of not even being thought of. "It's always a blessing to be with family."
"My summer? Oh it was great, Leo and I went on a nice little trip to get away from things, I helped Nessa get settled in her new place as our old house is now being rented to someone new." She still felt a sad ping to that thought, she loved her days living with her bestie, though she was happy to be in her new home. "There is never anything better than dessert."
The transition, yes. "Serving as head of house first then deputy broke the ice for sure. I did serve as a deputy in a school long time ago, then I was head department for runic studies in the Cairo WU for quite a while so the business is familiar... although Hogwarts is a school like no other, it's a great responsibility." He turned his face to look at the vast crowd of students in front of them to indicate what he meant by that. It was an honor.
Aahhh, Ab was now almost sure that Cassie and Leo were a little more than friends. He smiled and nodded, appreciating the fact that it wasn't rudely carried out in the castle where students and staffers saw and talked. That was the professional way to do it. "I'm glad you had fun. Send my best regards to professor Glendower, please." She was a delight to work with.
With the sorting ceremony over, Botros got up from his chair and clinked his goblet with the silver spoon twice urging everyone to pay attention. When that didn't work, he put the wand on his throat, "Good evening, Hogwarts," he spoke smiling. "Welcome everyone to another year at Hogwarts. Old students, welcome back, hope you had a good holiday and are all ready to tackle the new term with fresh spirits. New students, welcome to your first Hogwarts year. This school is not like other magical schools, we have unprecedented history that makes us one of the bests. This comes with unpredictable adventures: some to remind us to stay united, stick together and be one, strong hand against hardships. And others to wield us into a better shape to face the world outside those majestic, protective walls," he paused, making eye contacts and letting those important messages sink in.
"This term we have several new professors who bring us extraordinary and new horizons. We have professor Beatrice York of transfiguration," he extended his hand to indicate the white-haired woman. "Professor Paul Myers of Herbology," the white-haired man. "Professor Astrid Baxter of Charms," the brunette on the other side of the table. "And I'm happy to announce that Miss Helena Ravenclaw will take over History of Magic." He gave the lady-ghost a beam. "You've all met our new Groundskeeper, Mr. Justin McLeod who will also help Mrs. Murdoch in leading the Slytherin House. For Care of Magical Creatures... we're currently having a discussion with someone for it, and hopefully we'll have a very happy announcement to make regarding that matter." Ahem, no need for more details in case the 'someone' didn't agree to take it. "In my place, professor Moxley will be Hufflepuff Head of House assisted by professor Culloden." A little clap clap for all of them.
"I'm sure we've all had a long day and we're eager to wolf down those delicious dishes our loyal house-elves prepared for us, but first allow me to make some more announcements," sure the food was not here to judge it being scrumptious yet but when the food was ever bad here at Hogwarts? okay, maybe that one time with the ice cream, but other than that?? Never. Exactly. "This year, professor Sabel Dakest, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and ministry-approved Auror, is working on launching a Dueling Club for both students and staff. We thank him and wish him the best," a modest applause from Botros and the school. "Furthermore, following last year's unfortunate events," respectful pause. "We're going to have a year-long series of multiple camps to charge our mind, heart and body with positive energy and reform ourselves to be in a better state wholly. Not just that, we planned many surprises to accompany those activities. And fair warning, there will be rewards of different kinds for those who achieve the best they could from those camps." Whew! So much news in one night. That ought to keep them awake for a while. Heh heh.
"Lastly, you are all sorted in houses now. Your housemates will be your friends and your family for the next nine months, so try to get to know them better." A friendly smile for them all. "Have a good meal and don't forget to look for your prefects when it's time to leave to your dorms." He snapped his fingers and the feast was officially laid out on all five tables.

A cat wearing a sock. HOW INTERESTING! Meredith propped her chin on her hand, hanging on Sabel's every word. This was extremely important information to have and while the defense against the arts professor wasn't keen on giving the sound a whirl, Meredith Moxley certainly was.
Bringing her shirt up over her mouth, she channeled her inner cat She had been a lion and how different were they, really? and let out a muffled meohissshisssmeowwww.
"I really thought they'd sound a little more fierce than that." If he detected disappointment in her tone, Sabel was right. Still, it could be that she'd completely botched the attempt but, like, NO. Moxley was a natural at all things so that simply couldn't be the case...

"I'll need to practice before I test the waters with the Hufflepuffs. Don't want to embarrass myself in front of my fans-students. I meant students." Ahem. Hehe.
"Sounds lovely!" The brunette leaned in and added, "And relaxing helps with stress which causes greys and hair loss." Grey hair, she meant. He had a thing about hair, didn't he? Not that he had to worry too much about that sitch. His head was looking just fine. "Oh, yes! The most interesting muggles go antiquing! You meet quite a few characters in the shops that specialize in such things!"

And then it was time to eat and Meredith Moxley was SO all over that.

"Oh...good." He flipped his fork over and then back right-side-up, swallowing and forcing his thoughts back on track and his voice a bit lighter. "Not quite a fan of them myself, so if we get any tonight, I am going to take the liberty of shuffling them over onto your plate." The grin that normally would have been easily good natured, required a bit more force to get out and settled on his lips properly.
"What do you say? Trade system of brussel sprouts for dessert?" Because according to the big-dog, it was supposed to be something special. "That, and admittedly it's a better topic for small talk than the weather."
Or how summers were. But apparently, that was a small topic on everyone's mind.
He had to make a conscience effort not to cringe, and succeeded. Thirteen hours on a plane had given him a good long time to figure out what he would say and how he could mask his mood. Nothing worse than a killjoy at a celebratory feast. So, instead of the cringe, he managed a smile and a shrug of his shoulder. "It was decent. A close friend from the ministry finally got his act together and got married, so that was indeed ... joyful."
And then there were the past few days. But he shrugged them off.
"What about your summer?" Best to reciprocate, no?
She could handle him shuffling them to her plate, that kind of thing didn't bother her so she nodded and smiled, "Certainly you can't get enough healthy foods." Though she did have a sweet tooth too, so she tried to keep her self in a good balance. The first year teaching with all the hot chocolate and sweets proved she needed to keep that balance. "Well we might have to see about that. I do like my desserts." She gave a little grin, though she would kindly share some since he was giving her part of his meal.
"The weather isn't a bad topic and it's actually been quit nice. I met a cat along my way in the corridor that provided that it should be nice for awhile. No rain for the children not to get a chance to get outside and enjoy the grounds at the start of term." She liked that she could read the occasional cat in the corridor.
Oh marriage, hmm, her eyes couldn't help but made their way down the table. Her mind had went to that once in a while lately. They had been together over two years, but she wasn't trying to rush anything. Her thoughts back to Sabel she gave a small smile, "Well when the signs are there then it is the correct time for people. Marriage isn't something to be rushed on the first love or anything." She couldn't help but chuckle, her first love being Javy back in the day, yes it was probably good she hadn't jumped to anything with that. "My summer was nice, went on a little vacation and helped Nessa move into her new place." She would leave out her doubts about coming back and how she was seen by others though this might be a good time, "Sabel could I ask you something.."
Oh but it seemed it was time for the speech, "You know what this isn't the time, maybe I'll find you after the feast to speak about something." She could trust him, couldn't she? Find out how her personality was really taken by her coworkers.
SPOILER!!: Ab
Send my best regards to professor Glendower, please." She was a delight to work with.]
Yes she figured serving in those positions would be a good transition, but the thought of the Head of House thing made her squirm in her seat uncomfortably though she kept her face in check to not show her own emotions over the word. "Well you seem very well qualified and ready, but as a fellow Hufflepuff I have no doubt you will be great." You know if case with his age he forgot. Taking another sip of her water she fidgeted with her fork a bit and looked out to the students as he did. Yes Hogwarts was a world of it's own even for them.
Yes it had been a nice summer for the most part. She did feel guilty that she was such a bump on the log for a part of it, but she did enjoy her long talks with Leo too. "Yes, I will." Her thoughts went to Nessa and Javy about what they were probably doing at this moment instead of being here like she wished they were.
SPOILER!!: Speech
Let's eat!
She watched him stand and then her eyes moved to the students at their tables and the room hushed to listen. She had received the owls about this term and had started thinking about things. Her eyes moved to the new staff as she snapped for their introductions. It was nice that they were all very warmly welcomed, but she knew the students were great at that. Over the terms it seemed they got use to staff coming and going. Sad really that it seemed to overturn so much. As he spoke about his position and now Meredith's and Cossy's she snapped just as she would for anything else. It was very nice that the Hufflepuff's were welcoming them, but she wouldn't expect anything less from her house.
Her eyes moving towards Sabel as Ab brought up the dueling club, she might join that this term, thought she was never all that good at dueling. People didn't like her strategies of making their hair long and bouncy or a little makeup to look nice. Maybe the students would appreciate her dueling style better than her classmates when she was in school.
She looked at the food, but wasn't feeling all that hungry so she just sipped her water and contemplated on possibly heading up to the seventh floor early.

Folding his arms across his chest, Pebbles still resting comfortably in the palm of his left hand, he surveyed the new Herbology professor with a tiny amused smirk. "I think the Healer is the only one truly qualified to diagnose you," he replied calmly. "Not to worry, Cecelia will take great care of you. When a rabid rat belonging to a student bit my finger, she managed to save it before she would have needed to chop it off." He paused to lean in a bit to whisper to Cecelia. "Fellow could have chicken pox then. Those make spots too I hear."
Attention back on the man, Airey would have offered to shake his hand for a belated greeting but...spots. Better safe than sorry, right?
Chuckling, the astronomer looked down at himself before offering Meri berry a boyish grin accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders.. "I had the exact same thought. Only not in your office. Here. In the Great Hall," he stammered. Right. You know what he SHOULD be doing? Going back to his seat. It seemed as though the Headmaster was moving about as though he would give it soon.
BUT THEN SABEL DAKEST CAME OUT OF NO WHERE WITH A STELLAR DESCRIPTION. A description that must SURELY come with a stellar story to match. Color the Astronomy professor intrigued. VERY intrigued. He couldn't help but venture a glance towards Cassiopeia.
Could he manage to get socks on her feline's heads? Perhaps he should seek out Sabel's assistance in this dangerous endeavor...
"You...are going to have to tell me how you know that," he informed Sabel. And then help him with...things. Yes.
Turning towards the new Transfiguration professor, Airey gave a firm nod of the head. "That would be me," he grinned, lifting his right hand in preparation for his departure. "Would stay and chat, but I believe I have overstayed my welcome here on this end of the table." Especially with Old Man River standing UP and he still not in his seat all the way at the other end of the table. "Live long and proper!"
Then, limbs flailing like wet spaghetti, he took off towards the other end of the table and managed to slip into his seat juuuuuuuuuuuuust before the Headmaster opened his mouth to begin his speech. Seeing as there was no Care of Magical Creatures professor present, Airey gleefully set Pebbles down upon the vacant seat. "Just don't get any brilliant ideas," he whispered to the rock. "We both know you wouldn't do very good teaching the subject."
It was good to dream big, but one needed to dream big within certain parameters.
Clapping in all the appropriate places, Airey's eyes fell on the Gryffindor table. He was especially excited to see what all they brought to the castle - especially this rambunctious group of first years - this term. Starting with the prefects. That HAD received his memo about duties after the feast, right? He supposed he would find out when he put the pair of them on the spot in front of their entire house.
Food finally appearing, he took no time tucking into his roast beef. Just going to stuff his face for a little before heading down to the Gryffindor table. And maybe swing by the Ravenclaw one to make sure the little lost loud Gryffindor figured out the difference between blue and red.
Maybe she just really liked purple?
Sweet solstice this roast beef was tasty!

As she watched them all walk in, she hadn't been listening to anything going on at the table. Usually one in all the talking and excitement, this year Cassie sat and just watched everyone. The excitement of the children was so fun to watch and the sorting hat was brilliant. The first years looked very eager to get to their new homes. Her green eyes finally noticed a new face on her end of the table so she didn't have to reach around Ab or scream for anyone to hear. "Good evening. Are you settling in and ready to start?"
Astrid looked over at the Divination professor with a warm smile. "Oh, yes. I' most excited for lessons to begin." She nodded, said excitement evident in her hazel eyes. Although she was nervous, but it was just first day jitters.
"I'm Astrid Baxter," she extended her hand over to the blonde. Proper introductions were, after all, the foundations of teams. And Astrid was determined to be part of the team in more ways than one.

Wasn't that the new Professor didn't look like a nice person or anything, just that she was a reminder of who had originally sat in that seat. He could now understand, a little how Flamsteed had felt when he had first arrived.
Dropping his fork, Sabel turned slightly to the young woman and held out a hand in greeting. He could exchange pleasantries here, without having to reach across the table. "Welcome to where the magic happens." Quite, literally.
Her gaze was held by the Great Hall ceiling. It will forever captivate her. It did in her first ever night here. Astrid was sure it would until she grew wrinkly and gray-haired.
Snapping out of her daze, she turned her attention to the professor next to her. "So I've heard." And seen and experienced. She gave his hand a firm handshake, a lighthearted smile playing on her lips. "Thank you."

First name basis. That was great! Knowing her, she will probably slip and call him by his first name. Awkward situations avoided. This was looking like a great start.
"Thank you, Leobald." She smiled softly and nodded at his question. "I studied here, actually. All seven terms." Astrid was, and still is, a proud Hogwartian. No matter what's happened. Hogwarts was a second home. "How about yourself?"

She'd been taking things in, so when Beatrice introduced herself, Astrid realized she was one of the new staff hired like herself. She'd heard about them but not officially met them. Start of the term feast was a great place to do such thing.
Astrid returned the smile. "I am. It is nice meeting you as well. You're the new Transfiguration professor?" She was sure she was. The poncho-man was the Herbology professor...so...
She was right, though! The Headmaster interrupted her train of thought with his speech. Astrid gave a single polite nod at the students when she was presented, her insides doing excited and nervous things. This was the start of something great, she just knew it.
Dora had done her waiting TWELVE YEARS OF IT IN AZKABAN Like a good little girl, but as soon as the super old Headmaster dude gave his speech she was out of her seat! Her little legs carried her as fast as they could... she scuttled around the BIG people as best she could... and FINALLY she came to a sliding stop in front of the staff table.
UNCLE PROFESSOR DAKEST!!! Dora bounced on her feetsies and waved REAL BIG at him. Yes. YAAAASSSSSSSS!! "Uncle Professor Dakest!!!! I'm here! I GO TO HOGWARTS NOW!!! " Because, like.... what if he didn't know she had MADE IT?! She had told him and Auntie Arya BOTH and she even showed them her WAND!! But like the excitement was so HUGE!!!
Glancing over to make sure Sophie was nearby... or beside her or whatever... she smiled and bounced some more. "AND SOPHIE BROWN IS MY NEW BFF!! " DID he know that?! DID HE?!?!?!
COULD DORA HAVE A HUG NOW? PLEASE?! She held her arms out toward him and smiled WIDE AND WAITED BECAUSE SURELY HE WOULD HUG HER, right?!

Paul was growing VERY hungry. Food always came after the biiiiiig speech, right? Well, the Herbologist wouldn't rush Botros, ever, so he supposed he could deal with it. But it was a-rumbling away!
He turned and leaned over his seat, smiling over at....the woman with the friendly face [Moxley]. "Oh! That...is NOT a bad idea--" he winked and flapped his poncho a bit, like wings.
(It really, really wasn't a bad idea at all.)
"....We can have an after feast feast." He told her, teasingly, because really, all Paul wanted to do after this feast was catch some major ZZZZZ's. Man was whooped OUT, not to mention FIRST DAY OF CLASSES tomorrow that he needed to be up extra early to prepare for! "I'm Paul Myers, by the way--new Herbology professor!"
Leobald Kitridge, the librarian! "Ooooh. I DO enjoy the library! I spent so much time there while here at school--yes, please plan on seeing lots of this beautifully-" he barked with laughter--"Youthful face." it was all a big joke, see. Paul was old and wrinkly! At least, HE thought himself super funny and whatnot, so of COURSE he was chortling away. "And if you ever find yourself needing to get away from the insolation of the books, please do come visit my greenhouses! They've been prepared in a lovely manner--yes--I think everyone could use a little fresh AIR sometimes and stuff--" but he was babbling. "Excuse me. I've talked your ear off, I'm sorry."
He wiggled around in his seat, turning to face the Headmaster when he suddenly stood to speak. Lots of pretty words. Merlin, Botros could weave a basket of a speech, couldn't he? He just nodded a lot...and waved and smiled cheerfully when his name was announced.
Yep.
Him.
Big, bad, Herbology professor right here.
TIME. TO. EAT.
Paul wasted NO time in pulling his plate that was now filled with food towards him, grabbing a fork and knife, and cutting into whatever...this was. He stayed away from anything that looked like meat...he didn't want to accidentally offend his diet choices. What he needed...was a nice, big SALAD. Or a PASTA or something...Mhmm. He would miss Milton's cooking...dearly.
...but Merlin, as he chewed his food, he had to eye the Astronomy professor...what was this guy?! HMM? Declaring HE, PAUL MYERS, had DRAGON POX! He swallowed and waved his fork around in front of him in protest. "I ASSURE you, again, I do NOT have the dragon pox--" he didn't get WHY this younger fellow continued to argue with him. "Is this some sort of HAZING ceremony for the new staff? To accuse them of nonexistent diseases?!" he surely hoped not! PAUL WOULD NOT STAND FOR IT.
He shoveled another forkful of food into his mouth and squinted in Airey Flamsteed's general direction. Watching you, cadet.

Sophie Brown's Head Girl duties to look after the kids at large and stick by her table were one thing, but reaching out to a new kid and going along with her on an adventure was JUST important, staffers. Soph didn't want to just be a surface-level friend and mentor to a bunch of kids - she wanted to make a difference in these kids' individual lives and show them that they were important. So if that meant hurrying away from the Ravenclaw table in pursuit of little Dora from the train to carry out their plan to drive Dakest crazy, then SO IT WOULD BE.
Just one adventure with new kids who sought friendship at a time.
Rushing on up and poising herself with her arms crossed importantly beside Dora, who was already shouting and embarrassing the poor man, Sophie Brown griiiiinned and waggled her fingers of one hand at the professor before tucking it back under her arm. "Dora says she's gonna tell me all your secrets," she nodded, affirming, "'n best friends FOREVER." Because that's what BFF STOOD FOR, DAKEST.
...And then she became keenly aware that they were two kids standing in front of the staff table, and thus eyes were undoubtedly on them. And... there was a lot of really weird stuff happening among them, but Sophie Brown wanted their ATTENTION, so she was going to demand it. "Hi, professors," Soph extended a further greeting to the table at large with a grand gesture of a wave to them, grinning an especially cheeky smile down the table at Culloden. "I've also come with a message for you returning professors from your FAVORITE STUDENT EVER," there was a finger-point at Flamsteed because FAVORITE, "Tobias Fuller-Thompson. He says hi and he loves you guys and he misses you already. You guys especially," more finger-pointing among Dakest, Botros, Flamsteed, and Moxley. Because Tobes had favorites even though he didn't want anyone to know about it, much like Flammy.
Walking to her seat, she noticed the Librarian. Ah, she had been looking forward to returning to the library again. "Hello," she greeted him. She couldn't remember the librarian from when she was at Hogwarts, but this one looked very friendly. "Mister Kitridge, is it?"
Looking up from his goblet, trying to ignore the grumbling sounds from his stomach Leo turned to the woman sitting next to Cossy. Beaming he affirmed. "Yes I'm Leobald Ktridge. You're the new Transfiguration professor, Ms York? If you ever need something new to read then come swing by the library." Leo could help finding books to aid in lesson planning and for more pleasure reading purposes.

The question of Helena never ceased to make him smile, and he grinned from ear to ear.
"I did, yes," he said, especially after barely surviving last year, he almost never left his family's side. "She's growing up too fast!" She was already 1 year old. The time DID fly!
Grinning Leo said "A new colour is refreshing. You should try changing it up more often I should do that too, I'm so used to the navy and silver. I wonder what the eagles would say if I joined them in the common room tonight wearing orange from head to toe." There would be looks Leo imagined and lots of laughs.
"I'm glad, how old have Helena gotten now? Has she showed any magical signs?" Leo wondered curiously. He couldn't remember exactly when he had started to do odd stuff.

The brunette leaned in and added, "And relaxing helps with stress which causes greys and hair loss." Grey hair, she meant. He had a thing about hair, didn't he? Not that he had to worry too much about that sitch. His head was looking just fine. "Oh, yes! The most interesting muggles go antiquing! You meet quite a few characters in the shops that specialize in such things!"
Shrugging his shoulders Leo answered. "I think so. But I'm by no means an expert. We just had badgers in our backyard for a summer. They were pretty loud." Smiling from ear to ear he said "Maybe you can get the badgers make up a house cheer and present it to you?" And then she'd get to hear them sound like badgers before she tried the waters out?
Staring at Meredith after her last comment about his hair Leo asked tentatively "You don't see any grey strands in my hair right? I shouldn't have any because I haven't stressed. I've relaxed..........." Eep, oh no he didn't have grey hair did he? He didn't want to worry about that. Cassie would have said something.....No he couldn't have grey hair. Not possible.
"My mother and sisters have gotten a little too keen on antiquing lately that's why I asked. What is the fun in buying ancient stuff anyway?" Leo wondered.

Leo could keep any eye out for books that might be of the plant mans interest. Youthful? At least the guy didn't have any problem making jokes about himself as he was chortling away. "I shall take you up on that offer actually. It'd be nice to get some tips so I don't kill the few plants I have." Maybe Paul could make him less useless as a plant owner, Leo liked that vision. Shaking his head he said "Don't apologise Paul. You seem nice and easy to talk to." Which in this place was a plus.

Let's eat!
Leo wondered if Ab had heard his stomach growling from across the table when he stood up and gave his first ever headmaster speech to the student body. Silent but attentive he listened as Ab introduced the new staffers and gave some hints about what they had planned for the year with camps to strengthen every students mind, heart and body. When the food arrived Leo quickly helped himself to roast beef, potatoes and an assortment of other small pieces of the food available.
SPOILER!!: Sophie

Okay. THAT WAS ALL.
He had just eaten a few mouthfuls when Sophie made her way up to the staff table. For a moment there he had been worried that trouble was brewing at the claw table and that she was there to fetch him. In reality it was a more pleasant visit but he'd still ask for his own peace of mind. Beaming at the new appointed head student he said "Good evening Sophie! Did you have a lovely summer break? No trouble is at foot down at the claw table I hope?" If that was the case though Leo was going to down his dinner in a jiffy and hurry down there.

Sorry, new Herbology man. Can't hear you over the sound of how delicious this roast beef is. But BOTH diseases are very MUCH real. Nothing nonexistent about them. Airey did give the man a small wave with his gravy covered fork, and since he had no one sitting around him this term everyone was safe from gravy splattering, and cheeky grin before digging in some more.
Upon finishing his meal, Airey daintily dabbed the corners of his mouth and reached for his goblet to finish off the rest of his beverage when Miss Brown and one of his new Gryffidors arrived at the staff table. Clearly, this was the wrong moment to have actually taken that sip from his goblet as the pointing from the Head Girl made the liquid go down the wrong tube.
Hacking and mildly chocking, but showing enough restrain not to do so in anyone's direction, the astronomer pounded his fist on his chest to clear his airways. A rather illogical approached to his conundrum, but he was an astronomer, not a doctor.
"Yes...well...uh...give Mr. Toby my regards, Miss Brown," he coughed as he rose from his seat and scooped Pebbles up. "And I will be seeing you soon," he winked towards the first year.
Good luck with both of them, Sabel. This man was out of here and heading up to the Gryffindor common room! Good night, everyone.

She had heard the speech, at least. That was about all she could say for her tardiness, however. She had been sick all week, unfortunately, and two hours before the feast had decided to lay down for a quick nap...
And the rest was history.
Trying to slink up the side of the hall without being seen, her efforts were all for naught when she unleashed a giant sneeze. "AaaaCHOO!" Great. Her face went red, but at least her darker skin made that not as obvious.
Finally she reached the staff dais and took her place next to Airey's seat. "Evening, everyone," she mumbled half-heartedly. Applying herself to her meal, she sniffed and snuffled through some potatoes.
Okay. THAT WAS ALL.
Botros was used to students coming up to the dais after the food was laid out and do some... crazy things. This time, though, there was only a cute, excited first-year who looked like she was about to jump on Professor Dakest's lap right in the middle of his meal, what a sweetie. Was she a relative? She looked like it. Botros continued eating his steak, though, and smiled greasley as Ms. Brown came over and... oh. She was making a speech, too. Sort of.
Aw. He smiled when she finished, "Thank you for delivering that message, Ms. Brown, send our regards to Mr. Tempus. He was an outstanding student indeed." Botros DID check his NEWTs and he was very, very pleased. Now back to that steak...

Botros jumped in his seat with his fork in his hand hurting his tongue. He stretched forward and looked at a clearly sick Tanner. He could hear her sniffling all the way over here, come on. "It's... you don't have to stay here for long if you're sick, dear." She was a bit late... more than a bit, but her absence was validated by the mucus running down her nose. In fact, even he was finished with his stake and wiping his hands preparing to see the students out of the Great Hall. See?
