Astronomy Lesson 2 :: Field Trip to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich
The Astronomy classroom is set up in it's usual semicircle of desks and windows are closed to keep the chilly January winds. The professor's desk at the front of the room has an array ofpeculiarthingsplacedupon it that are not to be touched until instructed to do so. A large box of bum bags also sits on the desk besides these objects. The chalkboard behind the desk simply reads:

- Inside you will find a Royal Observatory pamphlet and envelope containing muggle money.
- Please give your permission slip to the professor.
- Portkey in half an hour.
- No pips today.
Professor Flamsteed stands just off to the right of his desk with eager hands waiting for the permission slips and already has his bum bag on and is ready to get this show on the road as he rocks back and forth on his heels.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? The one absent of the pips that have become second nature by this point. It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.
So come on in and get ready to boldly go where no has gone before!

The white-haired fellow quickly lint-rolled, and then stepped inside. "A---FLAMSTEEEEED!" he cried in excitement, gesturing at his bumbag....he clipped off his bag and holds out the planet themed thing to show his colleague. "It's PERFECT isn't it? PERFECT?" Perfect. He thought so. He had even worn his FAVORITE TIE and had Milton send him a suit from home.
And his favorite sandals. FAVORITE. SANDALS. AND A POCKET WATCH for this special special OCCASION!

As soon as Chloe entered she wanted to turn around and walk right out. She had been really excited about getting out of the castle for a field trip but she was not going to wear that. It was ghastly! Did he see that?
She didn't want to go out in public with that on, he couldn't make her.
Chloe slunk and tried to cling to the shadows, to disappear...but she wouldn't lose class credit for skipping out.
With silent judgement and sadness at the ugliness that was being forced upon her, she grabbed the least ugly bum bag (which was not pretty at all) and handed off her permission slip. This stunk.

Penelope had come dressed in blue jeans and a purple sweater for the field trip. No robes for going to muggle places. After using her lint roller on her definitely not at all suspicious muggle clothing, she entered the astronomy classroom. Approaching the astronomy professor, she did the vulcan salute thing with her hand. "Live long and prosper, Admiral Flamsteed." She handed her permission slip to the professor, admiral, or whatever they were supposed to call him now.
No pips today? Did they still have to call everyone ensign and all of those other titles? She looked at the items on Professor Flamsteed's desks. They must be the portkeys. Penelope would need to get a bum bag from the box. Did they have any purple or blue bum bags? Not that she cared too much about the color. A bum bag was a bum bag but she still wanted a purple one. She randomly selected a bum bag from the box, and it happened to be pink. This one would do. Oh, the herbology professor was here. Why was he here? Maybe there was some sort of rule about having more than one hogwarts staff member supervising on field trips. "Good morning, Professor Myers." Field trip! This was going to be fun and educational! Well, fun if she didn't feel too portkey sick. Travel by portkey had its drawbacks.

Janelle was sooooo excited. The class was going on a field trip which was awesome all by itself. But more than that, it was her birthday and she was feeling very pumped becaise she was finally fourteen. Almost skipping to the door, she stopped to de-lint herself. Once she was lint free, she entered the classroom. "Live long and prosper Admiral Flamsteed, everyone", Janelle said as she gave the Vulcan salute. With her permission slip in her hand, the Ravenclaw gave her slip to the Professor/Admiral.
Janelle eyed the items on the professor's desk. Interesting. Then she read the instructions on the board. They had to wear a fanny pack? Ooookay. Janelle didn't know that they were back in fashion. Oh well, even wearing a fanny pack couldn't dampen her mood today. She picked a multicolored one and went to sit down. Soon, soon they would be on their way. Janelle could not wait.

FIELD TRIP.
These were the BEST lessons EVER. So much so that Zander even had to admit to liking them and he wasn't one to admit he ever enjoyed lessons. So that meant something. Though, er, he couldn't really say the same about those rediculous bags they were meant to wear. But he was a boy, wouldn't that be weird? Couldn't they be excused???
However, he opted not to fuss about it being the responsible Seventh Year, Head Boy that he was. You're welcome, Professor F. Speaking of which, the Gryffindor entered the room quickly after having used the lint roller ON HIS CLOTHES and held his hand up in that vulcan salute thing. "Dif tor-- Er... Live long and prosper, Sir," yeaaaaah he wasn't going to try the other version. Didn't go so well the first few times. "Got my permission slip," he said handing over the paper in mention.
And um. Then he picked out one of them orange bum bags.

It was getting easier to get used to the strange and bizzare of Airey Flamsteed and his lessons. Goodness sake, he'd shared a lesson last year with the man. Spiking oreo cookies with werewolf transfiguring properites. A right deal of fun.
Somehow though, the fanny packs, or bum bags or whatever one wanted to call them, was not exuding such a vibe. Indeed, Sabel had to agree with several of the rather put-off expressions as he entered the classroom. The items on the Professor's desk got a double take. Were those what he thought....surely not.
Then again, maybe so.
Moving up to the front of the class, and nodding at the few students in the room, Sabel picked up a pack, hooked it around two fingers and let it dangle there as he preformed the Vulcan salute with the same hand. "Admiral Airey, dare I even ask which warp core you had to use to find these?"

Dot rolled. Dot only picked up ONE spider, and she even rolled her own self today, so she was all about following rules. Everyone deserved a fourth chance, and surely one of these days, Flamsteed would prove himself to be the man she'd thought he was before he started disappointing her so entirely.
Surely today was his day. Field trip and all that.
"Live long and prosper, Admiral," she chirped as she handed over her permission slip. And no pips to lead her astray today, although there were... oh... oh no. OH NO. Those bags. Were. Horrible. They murdered her soul. They desecrated her eyeballs. They destroyed her will to KEEP ON LIVING.
"This... is the last straw. Crime against fashion is the worst kind of crime," she muttered as she scooped up a plain black bag and tried to immediately envision how to make it less offensive. Flamsteed was dead to her.

Oliver had been hoping that they could fly again, like they had in the Astronomy lesson at the beginning of the term. But this lesson was special. It was FIELD TRIP TIME. So they couldn't fly while on the field trip, which was disappointing. Plus the field trip was at a muggle observatory, and muggles would probably not like to see a bunch of kids flying around. Plus that was illegal or whatever. So no flying, but a field trip was exciting.
"Hello professor," Oliver greeted as he entered the room. "I mean, live long and prosper." And he gave his best attempt at the finger salute thing. He was getting slightly better, but still had not mastered the ability to form his hands in that way. It was hard. And he handed over his permission slip, too. His dads had been good about sending his and Ellery's back as soon as they'd gotten them. So they were all set for the adventure.
The last thing he had to do was get a bum bag. He selected one that was white with purple polka dots. Nice. As he waited, Oliver glanced inside. A pamphlet, for the place they were going he assumed. And some money. Well that was cool. He would always welcome money. Hopefully they could buy snacks with it or something.
FIELD TRIP DAY. FIELD TRIP DAY. FIELD TRIP DAAAAAAAAAAAY. Oh yeah. Alert the authorities, this lesson was going to break ALL BOUNDARIES of AWESOME. Norah ran the lint roller over her favorite Christmas sweater (who CARED that it was nearly an entire year 'till it was Christmas again? That's right, not her) and the rest of her muggle clothing for the day, before entering the classroom with her permission slip already held out to Professor Flamsteed.
"Long live and prosper, Admiral! This is going to be wicked awesome." She could feel it already. Giving him the funny salute thing with her free hand, almost perfect at it now that she'd had months of practice, she turned her attention to the stuff on his desk. That was a really cool armadillo bag! Was he giving it away afterwards? 'Cause that'd be worth her allowance for sure. No questions asked. The fifth year then directed her energy towards the next most important thing: a bum bag. There were just SO many options, y'know? If the entire world was going to see her today, a bum bag would surely be vital to the whole look.
After far too much deliberation, she settled on the flowery pink bum bag that clashed horribly with her sweater (it was okay though, 'cause FLOWERS). And Professor Myers was there TOO! And Professor Pretty Face. Ahem. This was going to be radical.

For once it was a morning lesson for astronomy, a nice change in the subject Benny thought, and thankfully not TOO early of a class. And since it was a field trip into the muggle world, the choice of dress was far more casual and comfortable than uniforms and robes. And seeing as the rank pips were missing from the table, they wouldn't need to be wearing them either this time around. Fine by him...they weren't a bother but might look weird out in the everyday world.
Oh look...three professors.
"Live Long and Prosper, Admiral," he greeted Flamsteed first, using the proper salute that he had gotten the hang off over the course of the term. "Live Long and Prosper, Professors," Benny added to the herbology and defense professors, repeating the gesture to each of them. The other men didn't have a rank too...right? Too late now to know whether or not, he'd just have to hope not. With that let go, he handed in his permission slip before moving to follow the rest of the notes on the board. One green bum bag in hand, he was off to wait.

Today was the day they were going on a Field-trip! He couldn't help feeling rightfully excited for this trip. Henric rummaged through his pant's pockets for the signed permission slips he needed to hand in. Once he had gotten hold of that blasted piece of paper in his hands, he quickly raised it up to show to Professor Flamsteed."Here you go,Admiral Sir. Live Long and Prosper!!"he grinned before giving a salute. Thank goodness, he didn't forget to bring it!
He selected a bright yellow bum-bag and put it around his waist. HUFFLEPUFF REPRESENT! Curious, he took a look inside to see the contents.Ooohh... a pamphlet and muggle money?! Sweeet! Of course, he brought his own muggle money with him too if it wasn't enough for him.He would one to buy souvenirs back too,y'know.

Classes weren't nearly as cool as a FIELD TRIP DAY. That was just the cherry on top! The chip in the chocolate chip ice cream! The icing on the cake! The polka to the dot! He took his time in getting ready, even brushing down his hair to look neat and tidy for once. On the other hand, lint roller? What lint roller? He was suddenly blind and couldn't see it...

Permission slip in hand, he flailed it up and around before handing it to the professor Flamsteed. Aw yes, he had a free hand. "LIVE LONG AND PROSPER, ADMIRAL!" he said quite seriously as he stood up straight, raising his fingers into a V shape. Seeing the herbology and defense professor there as well, Lance turned and gave him the vulcan salute as well.
"LIVE LONG AND PROSPER...admiral... professor Myers! LIVE LONG AND PROPSER...admiral... professor Dakest!" Did they call other professors admiral??? EH? Didn't matter now. Greetings were over and done with. Permission slip was handed in. Hair was PERFECTLY normal for once. AND look at THOSE bum bags!

Astronomy field trip day!
Ava had been longing for today since Admiral Flamsteed had announced it. She loves field trip, when she was in muggle primary school she often participated to the field trip that they held. Just hopefully it wouldn't be boring. She'd never heard about that place so.. Hopefully it wouldn't be boring like the museums that she'd visited like the usual muggle field trip.
Dressing up in her comfortable muggle outfit, the young lioness walked to the astronomy tower, using the lint roller for her coat and entered the classroom. Oops, she almost forgot the weird salute. "Live long and prosper, Admiral!" She said. "And hello, Professor Dakest and Professor Myers." They're gonna chaperoning them too today? Wicked. She handed the permission slip that had been signed by her mother, grabbed a bum bag and waited until they departed to the place.

Sophie had mostly acclimated to astronomy class at Hogwarts without Tobes, but going on a field trip... brought her back. The pair had SO much fun at the National Space Centre when Flammy took them there, and now... she didn't HAVE her astronomy buddy to go gallivanting around with.
Thank Merlin she had Zander, though. He'd been her rock.
No pips today? Disappointing, but it made sense as they were supposed to be passing as normal, everyday students instead of young witches and wizards from a weirdo school. Lint-free and with her permission slip in hand, Soph passed deeper into the classroom and immediately saluted Flammy as she crossed the room toward him, a big ol' grin on her face. "Live long and PROSPER, Admiral. You're really rockin' that bag." And how nice of him to provide one for each and every one of them. They were going to be doing this thing in STYLE, clearly.
...PROFESSOR DAKEST ALERT. SABEL DAKEST. "Nuh uh," she pointed an accusational finger over at the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor with one hand while her other handed her permission slip to Flammy, "you're comin' with us?!" Great. A total nerd party. "I'm stickin' with you. Too late to say no." And Myers was there, too. Another favorite, but this one just got a smile and a wave out of Sophie Brown.
Picking out a fun-printed bum bag, Soph put it on without a second thought - had to set a good example for the kids, y'know? - and cheerfully grabbed up Zander's hand and tugged him over so they could stand near Dakest together. They were gonna go together in his portkey group, okay?

The day of the field trip was FINALLY here! It was chilly still so Adi made sure he was dressed for that weather, his most comfortable Tee shirt was worn- it had the Batman logo on it, all de- linted. "Live long and Prosper, Professor! Er, I mean, ProfessorS!'' He had just noted the other two. He handed over the permission slip signed by his mother to Flamsteed before grabbing one of those bags- an orange one- as he scanned the room.
"Hey, Janelle! Hey, Henny! Penelope, Ava!'' The Hufflepuff gave them all enthusiastic waves and grins as he shuffled over to Benny. "Dragon. You look like you're ready to fly off already to get this trip started.'' Hehe. "By the way, you're stuck with me for it, okay?'' Yup!
Excitement everywhere 'cause it was field trip day minus the portkey part, Hugo wasn't a fan of that type of "transportation" but he was here with permission slip in hand and ready to go. "Live long and prosper, admiral!" and saluted Flamsteed. "And also, what's up professors?" because there was Dakest and Myers in the room too.
So...there were some sort of interesting things on the table that Hugo was about to ask Flamsteed but something else caught his attention. Were those...bum bags?
"Do we really have to?" said pointing at them. Because to him there was no need to, he could've bring a backpack instead. It looked funny though, he could put some food inside it.

He had a love, hate, love again, hate again relationship with the subject. Oddly enough, it was the rules and the quirks that annoyed him the most in recent times. "I hope you prosper and keep living, Admiral," he greeted with a salute - though it wasn't Vulcan by any stretch of the imagination. And oh... plantspantsman was here, and Sabel too, "Professor's," he greeted with a head nod. Were they coming too? "Oh and here's my permission slip," he added, extending the note to his Head of House.

Dressed in casual muggle attire, Zeke fished inside the box until he got a bumbag that wasn't pink, floral or sparkly (because gosh that was a challenge). Content with a matte black, and ignoring the other assortment of weird items, he retreated to the back of the room to wait and inspect the goodies in his bum bag. Seriously, did the Professor not know how daggy they were?
The fact that it was still very obviously winter had had no bearing on Daxton's choice of clothing for the day. He did not know how much time they would be spending outside, but hopefully it would be plentiful, so he could really make the most of the cold.
The Ravenclaw entered the classroom with his shoes hooked over his fingers, his socks shoved inside them, and his earmuffs hooked around his neck as they always were. The lint roller outside had been run over his very well-worn, faded, and shabby clothes for only a moment before Daxton had grown bored of the charade, and now he had turned his attention to the absurd selection of bags that had been provided for them. Though assuming the way that Airey Flamsteed was wearing his bag was the intended aesthetic... perhaps 'absurd' was too kind a way of putting it.
Daxton picked up one of the... bum bags (really? who thought up this stuff?) by one of the straps, and held it up in the air so that the colourfully striped bag section was at eye level. He regarded the bag feeling a mixture of mild disgust and utter perplexity, letting it twirl slightly in the air. Eventually, Daxton dragged his gaze from the bag again and did a cursory glance around the room, pausing briefly as he laid eyes on each professor that was assembled - Myers and Dakest so far, both of whom Daxton had interacted with one-to-one - and stopping on Airey Flamsteed.
Tucking the bum bag under his arm, where his shoes soon joined it, Daxton stepped up to the Astronomy teacher, pulled out a neatly folded permission slip, completed and signed by his mother, from his pocket and waved it silently and insistently at the man, unintentionally in place of that weird salute. Here. Take it. Take it.
Daxton was not exactly happy about the idea of a field trip, especially to a place he had never been before. It was all too different, and took him well out of his comfort zone. But... he was eager (or as eager as it was possible for Daxton to get) to visit the Royal Observatory. Even though school trips had never ended all too well for him in the past.

She was not planning to attend the next Astronomy lesson but then there's a mention of a field trip. She couldn't resist a field trip not even if its Astronomy Field Trip. Any chance to leave the castle for a while she would definitely take it. With her permission slip in her hand, the Gryffindor entered the classroom. "Live long and prosper, Admiral Flamsteed." Cue the Vulcan salute. And looked there's Professor Myers and Dakest too. Both of the Professor got a polite nods. "Here's my permission slip, Admiral." Candice handeed the permission slip to the Astronomy Professor.

A field trip. Would it be anything like the first one they had went on in her first year? Probably not. That didn't stop Hady though from getting herself dressed in casual muggle clothing consisting of dark blue jeans, white shirt with what may or may not have been a carebear on it (shh people), a jean jacket to match and her white sneakers. She'd left her hair tumbling down around her shoulders not feeling much like tying it back right then.
Upon entering the room she stopped outside the door first and made sure to run the lint roller over her clothes. Not that she needed to but yeah she did it anyways just like always. In her hand was her permission slip which she handed over the second she got to the Professors. "Hello Admiral, live long and prosper." She stepped back and gave him the proper Vulcan salute once he had accepted her permission slip. Turning to Professors Myers and Dakest she gave a small grin and nod of her head. "Hello Professors."
Stepping out of the way she noticed the information on the board and wandered over to collect herself a...a bum bag? Erm well alrighty then. Not very fashionable honestly but no big deal. Fishing about in the box the lady snake pulled out a simple white one that had what appeared to be stars on it in different colors. Not to bad honestly. Holding it in her hand she wandered off to the side to adjust the straps and hang it around her waist somewhat to the side by her hip, her jean jacket mostly covering it.

Angel walked into the classroom. "Live Long and Prosper, Admiral!" Angel smiled at her head of house. "We teaming up, like we did on the last field trip?" Angel hoped so because he was the best person to be with, saying that it had been her who had decided to team up with him... she took out her permission slip and handed it to him and then she realised that there were two other professors.

He had wanted to stay in bed for this lesson and just not go. But his mother had heard about the field trip and had thought it would be very educational so she had signed the paper for him. And he knew his mother would owl the school to check if he had actually went so he had no choice but to enter the classroom of doom.
With the permission paper in one hand and using the lint roller with his other, Yoongi first checked if everyone in the room was on the ground before he entered. Though, he was slowly managing his fear of heights, he was still wary of the Astronomy Professor because he didn’t like to be up in the air without warning.

Unlike in the other lessons where he greeted Professor’s enthusiastically , Yoongi was uncharacteristic as he kept quiet in here. But he knew he had to greet the man at least once so, with some distance between them he stuttered a “long live prosper!” what? “Admire I mean admiral!” Oh Merlin. He turned around and walked to Dakest and Myers. "Hello~!" He definitely greeted them in a way more different way, grabbed a bum bag and wrapped it around him.

If there was one thing Davie had learned with having a Gryffindor on his arm at all times, that one thing would be that it was infinitely easier to get dressed in wizard clothes than in muggle ones. A robe slipped over a handcuff nice and easy. But a long-sleeved shirt? Well that was awkward.
Awkwardness aside, David trudged into the classroom with Blaise on his arm. Whoa, look at the other professors here! That woke him up a little. He gave a respectful, "hi, hello," to Myers and Dakest, then awkwardly dug around his bag for his permission form to give to Admiral Flamsteed.
"Here you go, sir," Davie mumbled depressedly as he turned it in.

He didn't want to go on the stupid trip. He didn't want to be in stupid Astronomy class. He didn't want to see stupid Astronomy Face Head of House Handcuff Man and he DIDN'T want to be handcuffed to stupid, sulky Ravenclaw Four Eyes either.
Why couldn't the Professor tie Davie to a pole and leave him there for 24 hours? He was the thief in all this. Think how many of the castle's possessions could be saved if the boy was put out of commission. Blaise made them linger at the door just so he could take an extra long time to use the lint roller then he dragged his feet, fine with letting the Ravenclaw walk in front or wherever he wanted. When lead over to drop off his permission slip, the boy did the same without a word to the Professor cause he wasn't sure he wanted him living all that long and prospering at all.

Professors Dakest and Myers both got small waves and his dutiful quill and notepad were at work scribbling everything as usual. It hadn't stopped since they were cuffed. It scribbled things about the Ravenclaw even while he was silently sulking and while he slept. Why? BLAISE wasn't gonna pay attention to him but he was still gonna have to do that speech.
