The black lake stretches for some distance along the shores of Hogwart's Castle and is home to the school's own Giant Squid. Some say if you stand out here long enough yelling his name you might catch a sighting of him but some may be lying and you'll possibly end up with a sore throat but no squid to show for it.
Along the edge of the lake is a small swimming dock for the adventurous who don't think walking into the water is a big enough entrance. By the dock are small boats that can be taken out for a lovely afternoon of sailing--after you've gotten the Groundkeeper's permission. Be sure to wear the life vests and no pushing!
There are also several trees by the lake, one with a hole and a hollow inside filled with books that have been left there over time. If you take one, be sure to place one in exchange to keep the system alive.
The stone left Sabel's hand at an awkward toss, the jerk from the startling address sending it spinning sideways into the calm lake. Sabel blinked at the ripples for a moment before straightening and looking over, a moment passing before recognition put a name to the face and a small smile on his lips.
"Professor Culloden." Should he even be calling other Professors, Professors? He was hardly a kid at Hogwarts anymore. He turned a stone in his hand, noting the direction of the man's gaze before he tossed one of the rocks easily to him.
"It most certainly is." Turning back to the lake, he skipped another stone across the surface. "What brings you out here? Reprieve from duty, or just enjoying the weather?"
Wait, what, Cosgrach had sent him his child's BIRTH CANDY wasn't he going to recog -
Oh, okay, all good here.
"Please, call me Cosgrach." Because he certainly was going to call him 'Sabel'. This was the problem of the Aurors. They were far too formal, they didn't know how to have fun and therefore, friends. He didn't like them and he had completely forgotten Sabel used to be one until the former (was he former, really?) Auror stuck his soulless formality in his eye; but he couldn't really excuse himself now, because aurors were also the type who got suspicious of the flying bird. All in all, aurors were probably the only people one should avoid at all costs, but Cosgrach Culloden had to hang around for at least 10 minutes - unless Sabel went completely silent (this also happened a lot with them. They probably used only 50 words per day, and Cosgrach suspected that they had forgotten how to have a conversation - or that it was required of them to speak as little as impossible. Probably both). Actually... come to think about it, he bet he could excuse himself after 5 minutes, because Sabel most likely wouldn't KNOW what to talk about and he'd already used like 20 of the 50-word-quota. Heh. His day wouldn't be wasted so much, after all.
Aurors were terribly overestimated.
Cosgrach was, in fact, pretty good at controling his face, so Sabel would suspect nothing - unless he used Legilimency, which Cosgrach would understand, although his very short training wouldn't be enough to defend himself. Yeah, it was all good. He even smiled at the man.
"Just enjoyin' the day," he said as he looked at the horizon, "gotta enjoy all until the winter." Scotland's winter was awful, after all. "How about you?"

Sabel chuckled, straightening from his last rock toss. "Isn't that the truth of it? Though, where I grew up we'd already be in the thick of snow and winter." But it was still cold in Scotland. Colder than he remembered when he had been a kid. Maybe he was getting old. Slowing metabolism and all that.
His gaze went to his colleauge, a shrug rolling of his shoulders. "To tell the truth I was just doing a round of the grounds. Got a bit distracted with...memories and the like." He held up one of the smooth stones he was holding, as if it would offer all the explanation in the world.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he remembered teaching a friend how to skip stones at this very lake. The memory came and went in an instant, replaced by another.
Cosgrach. Cosgrach Culloden. It clicked and his face heated slightly. "I never got to thank you for the treats you sent everyone. Or congratulate you." No sense in telling the man what he had done with said treats. "First child?"

Mel came out in the morning a little later than she had yesterday but she didnt want to get stuck in the rain. Melek sighed and wandered over to the lake, looking for her flags. As she walked, she talked to the lake, "So you gained weight, Lakey? All that rain... is it really good for you?" She giggled to herself, "I mean you still look good, Lakey... please dont scare me this time though... I mean you almost messed up my whole measuring... I will be in and out in no time if you just behave..." She got out her log and looked at her watch once she reached where her flags were.

Day 1:
Morning: 8:30 am
The water was 2 feet and 1 inch.
Afternoon: 2:45 pm (sorry for being about 2 and a half minutes late, professor)
The water was 2 feet and three-fourths of an inch.
The difference of the water levels was one-fourth of an inch. This might be caused by some disturbance when I freaked out because something that I dont know what it was brushed against my leg. The water appears to be higher in the morning but more observations will be needed to make sure.
Day 2:
Morning: 9:07 am
She sighed and put it up, going into the lake and measuring it. She leaned close to get the right measurement then looked around. "You know, Lakey, I mean this isnt actually too bad... as long as you dont scare me... The way you move is a little relaxing though it is getting a little too cold to be swimming in here... maybe in the spring, you and I could be best friends but not right now... all I want to do is my homework..." She went to go on shore and smiled when she got on the land. Melek took out her log and went to write the measurements.

In all honesty, Tia probably should have chosen the essay option because she could whip one out in her sleep. However given that this was OWL year, she was going to be with her nose in the textbook ALL year so any opportunity to leave her dormitory and texts were a welcome reprieve. Even if it meant wading through the black lake, which if it hadn't been for galoshes, she would have avoided all together. Because even though impervious worked alright for the balloons in the lesson, wading through the black lake with the charm she wasn't sure would be as effective. Thus the pink galoshes.
Having picked up her orange flag and muggle ruler, Tia carefully made her way down to the lake perusing the area for one with not too many flags around. She carefully labeled it, 'T. Mancini' and then walked it into the lake - to a point where the water came up to just below the kneecaps, although Tia leaned out and jabbed the flag in about six inches further. One foot of the marker was showing... waiting, she watched to see if there was any current going to wash up ...
Nothing. She documented this clearly, indicating also how far away the marker was from the grounds. And the time. Time was a big one, since she needed precision as to when to come back to take more measurements.
SPOILER!!: Log Book
Flag is three feet from edge, thirty paces away from dock
Monday Sept 9th at 8:30am
Tide measures the ruler with about 30 cm from the top, meaning its relatively high for the morning
Making sure to record the time to return, Tia also worked out the paces away from the dock she was so she would be easily able to find her flag again. Once she documented the initial details, she waded back out and up to the castle.

"After today, Lakey, we only have to do this for another 10 times!" She giggled and measured the lake. She leaned closely and looked at the it. Melek looked around and started to float, trying to enjoy herself and to get use to the water. She was slowly getting over her fear of the lake. Her parents had told her so many bad things about it but... it was actually really nice here. After a while, she went back to the shore. She dried off then got her log, writing the measurement down.

Sabel chuckled, straightening from his last rock toss. "Isn't that the truth of it? Though, where I grew up we'd already be in the thick of snow and winter." But it was still cold in Scotland. Okay, Sabel could use a lot words and chuckle. It might still be an act. Maybe they were told to chuckle here and there to look less soulless. Either way, Sabel talked, and said something worthy of a question: "Where did you grow up?" Where in the UK was colder than Scotland?
While Sabel was looking all over the place, Cosgrach's eyes were on him - not in a staring way, of course, but casually, since he didn't pick up anything to distract himself. 'Round of the grounds' yeah yeah. Cosgrach had never been close to Medea, but he missed the woman. He bet she wouldn't feel the need to guard the grounds.
"Hogwarts does that," he said, "we all somehow love it here and the memories are... strong when we return." He just got used to being "back" after five years, was all.
Well, no, Sabel was being very un-Auror rigt now. Not only was he, like, talking; but he was also being... human-like. This one must have been a great Auror, then - passing with O from every 'act like a human' tests. Hmm... Well, then. If he wanted to... Cosgrach could and would have a conversation, because he was a friendly man and he could speak about Helena even with his arch enemy.
Grinning, he said "Hope you enjoyed them. Yeah, she's my first, though I already have three step children." He paused to smile at the thought of his family.

He had tried to time his return to the lake edge as close as he could to the approximate length of time given in the homework notice. Six hours and twelve and a half minutes between each check of the tide. A glance at his watch as he strode across the school grounds to his destination showed that he was running just a little late in that estimation. It was more like six hours and fifteen minutes when he got to the water's edge near his flag, slipping off his shoes in the process.
Benny wasn't sure but it seemed the water was a little bit lower on the shore at first glance. He walked tentatively into the water with his bare feet trying to observe whether or not there was any real difference. "Only one real way to find out..." he mused to himself, taking out his ruler. Starting at the base of his flag once more, he measured the distance between it and the very edge of the water. Twice to be on the safe side. Sure enough, there was a difference and he recorded it into his records.

With that written down, Ben packed up his belongings and headed back to the castle. Time enough to wait for the next day's recordings.
Eden agreed about writing it down once they were inside, because...this was just NONSENSE. "Come back tonight--maybe right before dinner--and o--" but before she was done with her thought, rain....RAIN. The downpour drenched both of the girls almost instantly--
She yelped and quickly tried to trudge out of the water. "SNAP, TORA--" she laughed slightly as she zipped up her bag and slung it over her shoulder. "Hopefully it's not raining tonight--I don't fancy getting soaked again--" NOPE. She gestured for Tora to slosh after her towards the hopefully warm castle that awaited.
........
Homework, classes, and other various activities had Eden tired and HANGRY. But she had gone looking for Tora so they could come measure their little flags again. Merlin. "This is a pain. We should have opted for the essay option.." though, Eden wasn't as GOOD at the essays, they at least would have escaped the rain earlier.
....which, it had slackened up, but...it was still drizzling. Eden had her hood on her cloak drawn and just sighed. "This is terrible! You know what--can you impervious OUR BODIES? Or is that not possible?" she asked curiously, because....it was drizzling and they needed to wade back in the water.
More wetness.
More chances of catching a cold.
"Yeah, but I don't want to be just writing another paper. Take the activity homework while you can," Tora said, falling into step beside Eden. Her mind was on all the other homework she had to do that night and how much of it was . She was certainly glad she didn't have to write an astronomy one on top of that pile.
"Of course it's still raining," she grumbled as they neared the door. "If you want to try impervious I certainly wouldn't mind, Impervious!" She tried it on herself first and then walked right out in the middle of the gloomy drizzle. The water still hit her, but it just ran off like she were covered in wax or something.
"I'm still getting rained on, and it feels weird, but I suppose I'm still...dry. Sort of." Tora said shaking off droplets that were collecting on her arms.
....
The water wasn't nearly as choppy as it had been that morning when she got down to the lake. This curtain of drizzle seemed to come without wind, another difference from the earlier storm that she was grateful for. Tora splashed towards her blue flag and pulled out her water resistant ruler.
"Well, I'd say... wow, it looks like it's up by half a foot from this morning," she said. Not that she could write down '3 feet' until she was back inside anyway. The bloody rain.

You know what he looked like? A freaking fisherman, that's what. The wellies were on -- because this homework required going into the water a bit and he wasn't DUMB, HELLO?! -- and he had the orange flag in one hand and a ruler in the other. The orange flag had his name on it as well. Not that he thought anyone would take his flag but there were some freaking weirdos at this school, man. You never know.
ANYWAYS. When he arrived at the scene, Grayson stopped there, hands on his hips and looking as important as he clearly was. Dude was loving this. Pity they just had a homework assignment to complete.
So, the seventh year waded out to the water before coming to a stop a little way away. Not too far but not that close to the edge either. He dipped the flag into the water and immediately went to take measurements. This flag was four metres in length, yeah? Alright. He'd just have to measure out how far the tide was away from the top and take that away from 4 metres. Sounded easy enough.
Measuring took place, which, wasn't actually as easy as it looked. The water looked calm enough but there were still some small waves flowing back and forth, meaning that it was messing with his measurements. Freaking rude, that was. Jeez, couldn't it work with him in this case?
Measure......... wait for the tide to calm its horses........... measure.............
There! 2.86m. Which, if we take that away from 4 metres, left 1.14 metres. That....... seemed a little low. Grayson eyed the water by his feet. Was that correct or what? Was the water playing games with him? HMMMMM? Freaking rude, that was.

Benny had decided before even going to be that he was going to do next mornings readings at exactly the same times as the previous morning. That way it was at least a set time to work with for each am and pm reading. So he had made sure to set his alarm to insure that he didn't get up too late since it was the weekend. The sixth year wanted to have his work as accurate and well as he could manage. Especially since he hadn't been the best during the actual lesson.
Then the next morning he was back out at the lake with his notes and his borrowed measuring ruler. He had to walk a bit extra since he had came to the wrong point, picking along the shore and checking out flags. Thankfully it didn't take too much time, but by the time he had measured the distance and was ready to jot down his observation, it was one minute after yesterday morning,
Oh well.

So the next reading came in the afternoon, approximately six hours and twelve and a half minutes after the first reading. See, he'd come here about six hours and five minutes after the first reading and now it was time to wait. Wait seven and a half minutes.
Jeez, man, that didn't sound like fun.
So waiting was happening. Grayson lay back onto his elbows, resting his elbows on the ground. He even stifled a yawn because THIS WAS BORING THE--
Oh hey! Seven and a half minutes had gone by! Finally, jeez! Getting up from his spot, the Slytherin headed over towards his flag again, his ruler in hand. New measurement, with all the mathematical calculations, came to abouuuuut 1metre and 42cm. Alright. Not toooooo bad. Shrug.

...meh. "I suppose not--but is it worth getting RAINED on?" she asked as she, too, waded into the water after leaving her socks and shoes on the shore. She hadn't Impervious'd herself and just laughed at Tora trying it. "Wow...it looks WEIRD--" she poked Tora's arm. The rain drops were just gliding right off her skin. Heh. WEIRD. And kind of wicked cool, too.
She did impervious her ruler though, and measured the height at her flag. "Yeah...same...wow. It really must have been the weather, I think." She glanced up at the sky once more. "
Were they done for today? Eden sure hoped so. "Gosh..I hope it's not raining tomorrow..." she said as she measured her flag again just to make sure. "Yep...well...We're done, right? No use staying out here longer than we HAVE to." She winced as thunder rolled in the distance. A calm thunder, but thunder nonetheless.

WHOOPS.
She hadn't meant to startle anyone. Just having some fun and hoping to cause a stir in the water. That would mean that Bartholomew Henry was around and listening. Curiously she headed closer to the water with Professor Cassie. Perhaps she was right, because the cold weather wasn't so nice. Maybe squids didn't like it much either. "Maybe he is going down where the mermaids are." Lux wished that she could see the mermaids but didn't think it was possible unless they came to the surface. Biting her lip, she picked up a small stone and skipped it across the water. "I don't like the cold either. I'd much rather be in the heat." Though humidity could be awful as well.
It was interesting to hear that Hogwarts had flooded. Lux could never imagine it happening. The lake was big, but it didn't seem big enough to cover a whole castle. "Did you see the mermaids then?" It would be so cool if Professor Cassie saw mermaids. Maybe she saw them with Professor Glendower! "Friends are amazing, but I lost some of mine." Oh well. It was what it was and she was totally cool with it. Sometimes friendships weren't meant to last. "But I have a lot of close ones who are in Hufflepuff with me. We are an awesome House, aren't we?" Lux loved Hufflepuff though she was trying to get more in touch with her Gryffindor side. "I've had some adventures! Like with the cartography club when we found the Chamber of Secrets. And we also found a secret passageway!"
Cassie couldn’t help but giggle, Lux seemed to be enjoying herself and who wouldn’t enjoy snaps! “They really are. I’ve always enjoyed giving snaps. So much nicer then clapping in my eyes.” The hand hitting together thing just wasn’t her style, no fingers snapping was a much nicer and happier sound.
She saw the look Lux gave and she just shook her head, “Don’t worry, you didn’t do any harm. I don’t think you would have scared him off.” The squid was pretty use to children by now, most of the creatures were. “I bet he has, with it getting colder he might spend more time down there.” Lux had a good thought about him and where he might be. She did keep her eyes open in case he did show up. “The heat is wonderful, but I do adore the sweater dresses and cute boots in the winter.” She snapped happily over the thoughts.
“I’ve talked with the mermaid a few times, but I can’t remember if that was one of them.” She had always enjoyed speaking to all the creatures in one way or another. A frown took over for a bit at Lux’s words, “Lost some? I’m sorry. I think at your age you will start to realize some people that come into your life will leave, but your true friends will always stay.” She had known that alone feeling at school, but it was her best friend that always stayed by her side. “Hufflepuff always has the most wonderful people. It is something special.” She was a badger through and through. She loved her black and yellow.
Her adventures sounded fun and Cassie gave snaps, [b] “Those do sound fun!

Benny was definitely much more careful this time around. No distractions...no dilly-dalling...no going to the wrong flag. Though the boy supposing since they were supposed to be doing these readings and observation that they would get a better hang of things over time. But alas, future times didn't matter and past times amounted to different meanings. Here he was, 6 hours, 12.5 minutes after his morning survey almost to a t. The seconds was tough since his watch wasn't broken down that far.
But still, he was at his flag at the right time like he had planned, having followed the usual procedure of taking off his shoes and socks and wading into the lake a little, and ready to get a move on. Ben quickly took out the ruler from his pocket and crouched down towards the water. Inch by inch he measured until he was back on shore albeit damp. It got scribbled down into his notes as well as the thoughts he was starting to draw from the changes and times.

If Tia hadn't set her wristwatch as a reminder, she probably would have forgotten ALL about coming back out to the black lake to check on her orange flag. But thankfully, at 2:15, promptly after her defense class, the fifth year made her way out to the grounds. Thirty paces from the dock and there she saw it... actually the stick was slightly more visible than before, without her going in to measure exactly where the water was which meant without any formal measurements, she could see the tide was lower than the morning.
Stepping into the water, upon closer glance and where the water brushed up, she could see that the tide fell three centimeters. But not only that, her flag? It was actually CLOSER to shore than before. Instead of it being thirty-six inches, it was now thirty-three inches! Interesting...
SPOILER!!: Log Book
Monday Sept 9th at 8:30am
Flag is three feet from edge, thirty paces away from dock
Tide measures the ruler with about 30 cm from the top, meaning its relatively high for the morning
Monday Sept 9th 2:42pm
Water level reaches now 33 cm from top so tide dropped slightly.
Flag is now thirty-three inches from edge.
After walking back out onto dry ground, Tia took a moment to record all her numbers in the appropriate column before sliding her notebook back into her bag and heading back to the castle. So now she was good till the following morning? or was it literally every six hours and change, regardless of day? Assuming the following morning, she made a note to return upon waking up.

Another day, another set of readings he had to record in this log book of his. Swear to Merlin, this was freaking ridiculous. Why couldn't he have homework that's a simple question and answer? Even writing an essay sounded great right about now. It meant that he could write whatever as long as it was right and made sense and actually sounded smart. He'd be able to do it and get it over and done with the night before.
But noooOOOOOOooooo. This homework had to be freaking long. Jeez, man.
So, Grayson trudged his way towards the lake, ready to take another set of readings. Or kind ready anyways. All he was lacking was the effort to get this done. But he doubted that that was gonna appear anytime soon so he wasn't fussed.
Reaching the spot he was last time, the boy started measuring out the height of the tide. It was gonna be the same procedure as the other day, of course. Taking out his ruler, he started measuring out the length, getting right down until he was eye level with the markings. More calculations took place along with some jotting down and re-checking.

Clara wandered down to the lake, easel and paints in tow. She wanted to make use of the slightly warmer days before it became too cold to go outside and paint .... though, she'd probably still attempt it even then.
Hopefully, she'd be able to paint uninterrupted today (no offence, Michael).
After setting up the easel and paper not too far from the lake, she took out her paints and got to work, relaxing a little more with each brush stroke. Something about painting always seemed to distract her from her worries and make life ... better. Perhaps because she was then able to look at her problems objectively. Perhaps.....

Six hours and twelve and a half minutes had not flown by at all. In fact, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't drive the freaking thought of the homework out of his head. Stupid thing. He didn't even get the chance to do what he dis best: procrastinate. You know, apart from looking great and all. Didn't even get to enjoy the pizza he'd had either. Freaking rude, this homework was.
So, grumbling, Grayson headed out to the lake again. The sooner he was done with this, the better. He wasn't gonna waste anymore time worrying about this. Reaching his orange flag, the boy bent down and started measuring the tide. It was kinda hard to tell since the water, and hence the water, had changed a lot over the course of the day. And since he didn't know much about this kinda stuff, dude wasn't even sure if what he was doing was correct or not.
LOL #YOLO.
Taking out his ruler, the Slytherin started measuring the tide. It was the same procedure as before so, after all this time, it just felt kinda repetitive and boring. Despite that, he knew exactly what to do.

His quill slipped, making a lovely diagonal slash of ink across his page. "Not again," muttered Simon. This was the fourth time today, someone had messed up his handwriting. At least this time, it wasn't his homework. Simon raised an eyebrow at the boy poking him. "Ian? What are you doing here?" he asked, startled to see the Gryffindor boy again. Then the Slytherin realised how awkward his comment was. Biting his lip, he laughed. "Well of course, you go to the school..." Really smooth, Si. Very smooth. "Seat? This is your seat?" He laughed again, shaking his head. "What do you own it or have your name written on it?" Simon moved over slightly and began checking the grass for the name because for some reason, he had a feeling that Ian would be the type of person to label all of his seats.
Oh.
It was that kid. Ian remembered him. Sort of. From the muggle Twitter app. This was the first time he actually saw him in person, though.
The Gryffindor raised an eyebrow at Simon’s question. He was just about to reply with an observation on the stupidity of it when Simon seemed to catch himself, realizing how obvious it was that Ian very much existed in the Hogwarts universe. WELL. To be fair, he didn’t really go go to the school. As in, he was enrolled but skipped classes so often it was hard to remember he was still a student here.
“Yeah I do, actually.” Ian then pointed at the bottom half of the tree trunk where, in an attack of sudden uncontrollable boredom, he had carved out his name months ago.
Ian decided to drop the this-is-my-seat deal though, since he kinda sorta could stand Simon and didn’t mind him all that much. Instead, he proceeded to sit next to the boy and snatch his little diary from his hands. “So what the hell is this?” he asked, flipping through the pages like he had every right in the world.

Later that same day, once the time had passed - and quickly between lessons, Zeke hurried down to the lake shore to check on his flag and thus the lake tide.
Taking his notebook from his bag, he checked his first entry.
The tide was six inches when he first set it up. Good to know.
Kicking off his socks and shoes and rolling up his pants, Zeke waded out into the water to check the figure on his flag post. It read 9 inches. 9 inches!!! That was a whole inch higher than it was this morning! A WHOLE INCH!
Zeke returned to shore, and with his muggle pen in hand, penned the appropriate information.
SPOILER!!: Notes
Monday
9:45am
Flagpost (12 inches); current tide reaches 8 inches; flag post inserted 2 inches below ground; actual tide height is 6 inches. Positioned two paces from shoreline. Tide seems low-ish.
3:57pm (and 30 seconds)
Flagpost (12 inches); current tide reaches 9 inches; flag post inserted 2 inches below ground; actual tide height is 7 inches. Positioned two (ALMOST THREE) paces from shoreline. Tide has risen by a WHOLE inch. Why? It could be because Bartholomew whateverhisnameis is swimming around causing the tide to increase, or perhaps maybe at a great stretch of the imagination POSSIBLY the moon might be pulling the tide up, though it's more likely sir that people are using the spell you taught us in class to mess with our results.
Once that was recorded, he packed his things up and left it for today... he'd revisit and try again tomorrow.

It all just seemed like routine by this point. Get up early, go check the measurements of her flag, head to the Great Hall for some breakfast and start her daily classes. But as much routine as it was, Tia was going to be grateful for Friday afternoon when she took her final measurements; this was after all very monotonous which was quite boring in her opinion.
With ease, the fifth year slipped on her galoshes, stepped into the water and measured both how high the water was from the top of the flag, as well as how far out the flag was. And as seemed to be the norm, the earlier in the morning she went out, the higher the tide. As the sun rose and afternoon set in, it seemed the tide did the opposite... and yet, with the tide pulling away, it seemed it pushed the flag slightly further from the shore ...

Jotting down these thoughts and her measurements once on dry land, Tia carefully slid her notes into her back and headed back to the castle, with careful consideration as to the time of her return.

Tora splashed out of the water and grabbed her bag... which of course the rain had gotten soaked. Funny how being impervious to water makes you forget that your stuff isn't.
"No kidding," she said. "Yeah I have no interest in coming out here tomorrow morning to do all this is it's raining then too." The sound of thunder boomed a bit closer than before.
"Yup, we're done, and even if we weren't we shouldn't stay by the lake in a thunderstorm. You want to head back to dinner? I'm STARVED" she said, waiting for Eden to put back on her socks and shoes. Tora hadn't bothered since the water just sliiiiidd off her. In a weird way. She shivered. Definitely would remove that spell as soon as she got inside.
She bounced a bit impatiently, the warm Great Hall was waiting with plenty of food and Tora couldn't wait to get out of the rain.

Final day which started off pretty decent despite the early hour Tia had to get up to be able to take her measurements and make her eight am charms class.
After an exhausting morning, a quick lunch, Tia strutted out to the grounds but was met with a downpour of rain. Well that ought to not be good for her NOTES or her measurements. The weather had held up until this point so why now, on her final time of taking measurements. And she couldn't very well hold off because then the time would be off and Flamsteed would no doubt eat her alive for waiting an extra two minutes.
Not cool, clouds.
Sloshing fast through the puddles and soft ground, Tia reached the point at the black lake, squinted out in the blur inhaled deeply, exhaled, before stepping into the waters. Cold too. Ugh, this sooo better be worth the grade.

Making a careful memory notation of her numbers, this time, she didn't record them in her notes upon exiting the lake... she did however, remove the flag from the water and held it carefully where the water had reached to - higher than the morning no doubt due to the rainfall, more than the tide.
Once back in the castle, was where the fifth year jotted down her final numbers in her notebook. Debating on if lunch was still being served for some hot tea, but then simply decided to head back to her dormitory to change into some dry clothes.

“Observations?” Ian raised an eyebrow, using one hand to hold the notebook open while the other held Simon back. Eagerly, the boy’s brown eyes scanned the doodles, notes and scribbles, trying to make some sense of it but with little success. “What kind of observations?” There was no mention of note-worthy observations here - there was no mention of a single girl! If it wasn’t the girls, then what was Simon observing?! Ian’s tiny mind couldn’t wrap itself around it.
Unless…
OHGOSH.
Simon was observing the guys! Ian did see some guy names mentioned in the scribbles.
“Aw, dude, seriously?” Disappointed, he unceremoniously dumped the notebook back on Simon’s lap. “So that’s what you do on your free time? Write about guys in class?”
Ian wasn’t one to judge, to each his own, but geez could the Slytherin be any more boring. >_______>
