Default Office of Professor Sabel Dakest

Once you have been invited inside the office, by the Professor (or a Professor), make yourself comfortable. There are two chairs opposite the main desk. Feel free to turn one about-face to the fireplace on the opposite side of the room, if you are more inclined.

Like the waiting area, the office reflects an outdoor feel, with various hardy plants littered about the bookshelves and on the desk. A fireplace gives a bit of extra heat to the room, while blanketing it in a comforting, smokey cedar scent. You may notice that the windows are occasionally charmed to reflect a mountain-scene, but this is often only when the Professor is feeling overtly nostalgic or on request from an over-eager student.

A few photos of a young woman and two children have been placed almost protectively on the desk, and on the bookshelf directly behind. The shelves themselves house naturalistic items, including a few abandoned bird nests, leaves, cones and nuts of varying species and rocks and pebbles of unique nature, either roughly hewed or eerily smooth. Each item has been placed strategically and tastefully among the shelves, which enhances the cabin-like feel of the office.

Books fill up the rest of the spaces on the shelf ranging in topic from defensive and offensive spells, magical combat, martial arts, magical and muggle law, wilderness survival, outdoor reference guides, tracking and a few others whose titles are unrecognizable. Perhaps it's age, or maybe it's intentional? Do you dare risking your fingers to find out?

--------------------------------------------

OOC: Please be sure you've posted out in the Seating Area, and have been invited in before posting here :-)

Please make sure you have read the Rules, before posting.

No matter what he did it seemed like he could not rid himself of Hogwarts. He would always somehow find himself back here. Perhaps they needed a specific Auror to deal with Hogwarts related issues? The thought had come to him last night but could could he tell? The department head that he didn't fully trust? No thank you.

Head held high, Legend did his best to keep his expression neutral and showing no emotion at all. He was stuck here, with the idiotic reporter. And Sabel. The so called traitor. Excellent. But this was worse than something just concerning his safety (and dealing with the idiot who wrote the article). He had family attending Hogwarts. And he would not let the Cult cause them any harm at all. So if it meant playing nice while he received information? So be it.

Frowing at Sabels Desk, Legned nodded briskley. "I assume you've gone through all the basics when it comes to identifying who left it?" Spells, checking for fingerprints, Sabel SHOULD know.

Basil, unlike others, had no problem keeping his expression neutral. In fact, his eyes had been vacant of any sort of emotion as they made their way through the castle to the target's office. A castle that had once been like a second home to him. A castle his daughters now attended. Daughters who had been unwilling, and unknowning, pawns in the master's game.

It wasn't until they had stepped inside the office that any veil of expression fell on the Editor-in-Chief, and it was a rather unbecoming one at that.

Free to do his own investigation? The man unwillingly chuckled, having already done so upon his previous visit. The master had all the information he needed now, so there was no need for further inquiries. Even if that was not what Dakest was implying with his words. Basil had no need to examine the evidence further.

"Bit peculiar, isn't it," he mused with a voice dark and rich as wine while pointing to each of the men individually at key points. "That of all those employed in Magical Law Enforcement it is you who are asked to come. And by personal invitation nonetheless from you." It was as though they just wanted to play into the master's hands. Aurors really were a foolish bunch. "When it is the two of you whose integrity is in question."

Stirring the pot. That was his assignment, after all.

Waltzing over to one of the bookshelves, he purposefully picked up a nest from the shelf and stared at it with vacant eyes for a few uncomfortable moments. Seeing as the man had done away with the framed photos...this would have to do to send a message and rattle his resolve. Placing it half back down on the shelf, the delicate object tumbled to the ground and with a soft, but sickening, thud. A few twigs splintered off here and there, leaving the once peaceful home in shambles.

"Oopsies?"

A few twigs splintered off here and there, leaving the once peaceful home in shambles.

"Oopsies?"

Sabel gave Legend a shrug of his shoulders as he spread his hands. "I did, but given I'm no longer MLE,so my findings hold no weight." Especially in the eyes of the reporter, who his gaze now drifted to, albiet a little pointedly. His words remained for Legend though, a dry and flat acceptance of how things were going to go down. "You'll want to check them all yourself."

As much as it made him loathe the scenario he had put in place, he had no friends in the room at the moment. He couldn't afford them. Legend couldn't afford them and Truebridge, when she got here, couldn't afford them either. A fact that was blatantly and rudely restated by their 'most honored' guest.

Sabel's gaze slid over to the reporter, having little success in masking his distaste of the man's ability to twist truth. It all fell to pieces when the nest broke apart from what seemed deliberate absent care. The nest his daughter had found and given to him. He remembered the day as vividly as he saw the office he was sitting in now. It took everything to keep every muscle and bone dead still. To keep from offering more than words to the man.

"Not at all peculiar." He forced himself to focus on the words, even as his eyes took in the broken twigs and one cracked, blue egg. Something twisted in his gut, something both warning and threatening, and he wrenched his eyes back to the less than apologetic gaze of the reporter.

"If your impeccable sources are to be believed, Legend is in fact Rainey's target, my and the target of the Cult. Which would make him the most trusted man in the MLE. Not one of questionable integrity." One eyebrow went up as he watched the man closely, looking for anything. Or perhaps for something. Maybe something that wasn't even there.

His gaze lingered on the glove, on the right hand specifically, noting the strange way the fabric held to the hand. Distaste colored his tone, as neutral as he tried to force it. "I had thought he would have been highly approved by you as an attendee."

The frown was exchanged for a humorless smile, as another thought came to him. Two articles already. Why wouldn't there be a third?

He almost laughed. "It has a sort of poetry to it, don't you think, Mr. Skeeter? An alleged man taken down by the very person he seeks to destroy. Former colleagues turned enemies, all by way of Cult intrigue." The smile slipped away. "Sounds like the sort of story consumed and perfected in its inaccuracies by your paper."

"Mind if I join?" the Headmistress' level voice came floating in from the direction of the doorway. She leaned against it casually, trusting (hopefully not foolishly) that Sabel had taken down the wards on it since there were two strangers in his office now. Legend, of course, wasn't really a stranger. He was a popcorn muncher former student, one who had worked closely with Hogwarts in the past. He should be helpful. He was as close as this school got to a resource officer, after all.

Blue eyes drifting from the Auror to the newspaper reporter, the Headmistress straightened up suddenly from her lean. Something was off about this man. She didn't like him, she didn't trust him, she didn't like how he was talking to Sabel, and she suddenly felt uncomfortable around him, the way Gingersnapple felt around students who were hiding things from her. Should she bring her cat in to sniff around him? Kneazles, half-kneazles, and suspected kneazles were good at picking up on suspicious characters, after all...

"You're the one who wrote the article," Annie spoke up plainly. Now her eyes were positively boring into Basil Skeeter's head as she stepped into the room and held out her right hand for a shake from his right hand. "I'm the Headmistress of Hogwarts, Anastasia Truebridge. Have we met?"

It was hilarious how the reporter got his own story mixed up. His integrity was in question? Rolling his green eyes the Auror turned back to his...well...former friend. "Your findings never did hold that much wait while you were in the MLE either." Offering the other man mocking smile, Legend turned to the letters to get a better look, silently he began his checklist.

Until the stupid reporter started speaking again. Though Sabel shut him down soon enough. Waving a hand over the evidence, Legend frowned as he mumbled a spell.

"Yeah Skeeter, this makes me question if you even remember what you pulled out of your butt. Shouldn't you already know? I'm next on the chopping block it would seem. Scheduled to die." Yadayada. Gah. Reaching into a pocket in his jacket he pulled out a small clear folder that seemed way to large to even fit where it had previously been. Coping the papers he placed the originals in the folder before stuffing it back into the hidden jacket compartment. "Really wished you guys wouldn't have touched this, but-" He shrugged. "I'll see what I can do." Standard answer. Opening his mouth to say something else, Legend was cut off by a familiar voice.

Glancing over his shoulder, he gave the headmistress a slight smile. Bunz. "It's your castle. I suppose you're suppose to join anyways." It was strange that she didn't even look that much older from when he had been a student. Even though it had been YEAAAAAARS. She was basically ancient now. But good job keeping up with the times Bunz. Makeup did wonders it seemed.

But the addition to the question had him turning, considering the boy with a mixture of curiosity and restrained amusement. Had he really.......it was clear from the expression on his face, he had.

Clearing his throat, Sabel closed the door fully and found he couldn't help himself. "Why don't you give me what you think the answer to your question is, first? What, Mr. Foster, is up?"
Hugo squinted his eyes. Hmm. Dakest was a very suspicious man. "Alright." nodded and sat down in front of the professor. "First of all, it's a greeting. So, the question is not literally because it wouldn't make sense, right?" Of course "It is like I'm asking you 'how are you?' just in a cool way. So, you answer 'I'm good' or something like that" period.

Now it was Dakest's turn.

"Your question doesn't make sense. 'What's down?'" he shook his head "What are your answers, professor?" he asked very curious.

More. Push him more. Provoke. Provoke them all.

Primarily Dakest.

But the master had said that such play should be limited to the target if others were begging for it.

"Given this an awful lot of thought, haven't you, Dakest," he replied with forced amusement. "I'm flattered." As for the Auror, one of those begging to play, Basil snapped his head around towards him, but said nothing. It was almost ironic how his eyes, while void of emotion, still reflected some sort of dangerous energy.

Before he could retaliate, the red head entered the room and the corners of his lips curled into a foreign grin for the former Hufflepuff's features. Although perhaps familiar to some in present company.

"In passing once or twice, I believe," he said casually as he strolled towards her. Moving as though he were about to offer her a hand shake, his right arm remaining limping hanging to his side, he instead reached to twirl some of her fiery red hair around his finger. "But perhaps never this close up."

And then he began to laugh, his voice like the low rumble of an approaching storm.

Professor Dakest's lack of a reaction kind of freaked Benzi out. Mr. Kitridge had at the very least smiled when Benzi had told him of his career aspirations. Was this a good sign or a bad sign? Was the professor only letting him in there to shut him down in private? Because if so he'd much rather stay out here.

Nevertheless, Benzi nodded and passed into the Dakest's office. "Thank you," he said, mulling over those words and wondering if they were a jab at him for not coming to see him earlier. He was here now though, so that was enough of that no?

He dumped his bag unceremoniously on the floor and sat down in front of the desk, trying to stay not awkward as he waited for the professor to join him. How does he start? Where does he start? His uncle died and emotionally scarred him for life? Teenage things keep getting him down?

Making his way around his desk, Sabel fought to contain his amusement. He really shouldn't be so amused, but the plain fact was that he ... was.

"Well, I think it does make sense. Literally." Sitting down, Sabel considered the boy across from him with his most serious expression. "For instance, the sky is up. So is the roof, the clouds, the mountains, birds, the sun, the stars, insects and so forth."

Did he see where he was going with this?

"So perhaps what makes less sense is how it is a greeting. If you are asking me what is up, then should it not be one of those things? But given it was taken as a greeting, I have returned with, what is down. And what is down? The earth. The grass, soil, trees, flowers, more insects, chickens....turtles."

The silence was strange. Most students seemed to launch right into what it was they wanted to say, either by nerves or excitement. But then, perhaps it would have been stranger if the boy that had avoided this meeting just vaulted into things right away.

Moving to his desk, Sabel dropped into it, hooking his feet up on the edge of his desk in a relaxed manner. For a moment he simply watched the boy, waiting for him to speak. When the silence continued, it seemed as if it was time for a prompt. "So, what is it I can help you with today?"

Sabel couldn't keep the wince from his features at Legend's return. That smarted, just a little bit. Felt like he really was alone in this room. That the tables had turned --

And then there was Truebridge. A breath of fresh air. A strangely calming presence amidst the torrent of thoughts that were tumbling through his head. Their conversation in her office returned to him, helped him keep his head. Allowed him to offer a plain shrug to the reporter at his response. He'd had a lot of time, sure. Wasn't like the articles came out one right after the other.

But the returning calm was quickly shattered as something clicked into place. It was there, half masked in the reporter's grin. And it was there again, when the man twirled Truebridge's hair. A memory flickering in a bone-chilling sensation. Dread, imagined or real, rolled through him in an icy wave and he was sure his face had lost some of it's color.

It took him a moment to realize that he had summoned his wand into his hand, held in a white-knuckled vice grip. Truebridge was a woman who could speak for herself. And if anything, his silence was invaluable at this moment. Still, he wondered if the reporter was keen to loose another finger or two, and his look said as much.

Offering the other man mocking smile, Legend turned to the letters to get a better look, silently he began his checklist.

Their conversation in her office returned to him, helped him keep his head. Allowed him to offer a plain shrug to the reporter at his response. He'd had a lot of time, sure. Wasn't like the articles came out one right after the other.

It was her castle. Damn right, Chosen. The Headmistress barely had time to return the young Auror's smile with one of her own before she was quite distracted by... by.... by.... creepy... touching.... greasy... fingerssss... rubbing.... touching... caressing... her... precious... HAIR!

"OH no you DID NOT," the redhead snapped, twirling away from the reporter in a smooth, instantaneous reaction, so that she was now positioned behind him with her wand arm hinging around and pointing to his neck.

She realized what she had done a fraction later, and took a shuddery step backwards, shooting an almost guilty look at Sabel as she lowered her wand to her side. That reaction had not been the best example for him. "Mister Chosen," she took another step away from the creepy reporter and toward Legend, just wanting some distance from that man. Something was very, very off with Tori's boss. If they had met before, he certainly hadn't behaved like that. "Please escort Mister Skeeter off the castle and grounds immediately. He is never welcome here again. Legend, you may come back for whatever evidence you need... or take it with you now..." her blue eyes flicked from one auror to the other as she stared daggers at the back of Skeeter's head, "just get this rat out of my sight."

Legend frowned. Deeply. While he was trying to keep is emotions in check it was hard considering the scene unfolding before him. It was disturbing, the slight cackle of the writers voice. Not just because of the whole 'i'm going to touch Bunz's hair i'm such a big fan creep person' but rather because of the vibe he gave off.

Eyes flickering over to Sabel as if he had sensed something wrong, Legend kept his gaze on the man for a while. Biting his tongue from the words threatening to escape he turned back to the Headmistress. "I have everything I need. But know that next time if you just need someone to escort people away you need a security guard. Call on Simon or something." Considering this was the SECOND incident.

...Sure the first had been with a real criminal, but so what?

Not bothering to draw his wand, Legend grabbed Skeeter's arm. "Guess we're off then, right mate?" He smiled mockingly. Creep.

Leaning back slightly, his neck tensing to the point that you could see each and every muscle there, the Editor-in-Chief's facial expression remained unchanged. His lips were still twisted into an amused smile and there was an eerie and unnerving twinkle in his vacant blue eyes.

He said nothing, however, both hands resting at his side as the woman began taking a few steps away.

Just the distance he needed.

Body remaining rigid as the Auror took hold of his arm, Basil pivoted sharply on the spot and attempted to pull himself free whilst reaching for his wand with his other hand. He hardly succeeded at either, he stumbled his black leather glove that was torn off due to his jerky movements and being caught on the Auror's hand, revealing a hand whose index and middle fingers had been unnaturally severed off. Eye ablaze, he drew his wand began haphazardly casting the Conjunctivitis Curse.

No capture. Must not be captured. Master's orders...must not...

Legend could sense that something was wrong the moment he had grabbed the man's arm. Skeeter had clenched up, his body suddenly unmoving, and in less than a second it had all changed. As the other man, yanked his self away he blond drew his own wand swiftly. His shielding charm went off without even having to think about it, just as the spells went flying.

Mentally, two thoughts entered the former Gryffindor's head in that moment. One: Skeeter was not attacking to cause any lasting harm (Bunz and Sabel would be okay and essentially out of danger, though his friend knew how to take care of himself, the headmistress as well). And two; The bloody man thought he could get away with actually attacking them. That alone was frustrating and insulting.

With a flourish of his wand he threw a series of Knockback Jinxes, right at the disgruntled reporter.

Truth be told, Sabel wouldn't have terribly minded if Bunz had hexed the reporter's head off. So her guilty look went unchallenged and almost unacknowledged. He was distracted by what had dawned on him. The realization that had him gripping his wand until his knuckles ached.

And he was watching, closely. For the first sign of trouble. For any indication of things about to bend and snap the same way. It was good that Bunz was ordering them out. Good that Legend was taking him out. Sabel moved to stand, finding the sudden need to move, to pace, to do something.

And that was when his office became incredibly small and crowded. Normally, it could house a good number of people. Start throwing spells and bodies around however, and it got very cramped, very quickly.

Something over his shoulder made a crack as the shield he threw up quickly deflected a spell off to the side. It didn't matter. Who the man thought he was, that he could take on two Aurors and the Headmistress of Hogwarts, was not even a question that occurred to him. Anger didn't even register in the sudden, emotionless void. He was around his desk in a second, a stunning hex and full-body binding curse shot towards the reporter to join in with Legend's casted spells.

And Annie had thought she was exhibiting great self control by not hexing the reporter scum. Apparently she had the most self control except around chocolate out of all the people in this room!

The instant the editor looked like he was going to draw his wand, the redhead ducked. Naturally, she would allow Legend and Sabel to take the lead now; she was no Gryffindor Auror. One thing she noticed, though, was the glove falling to the floor in apparent slow-motion, with her own hand reaching out to catch it just before it hit the ground.

Weird. This was all SO WEIRD. The redhead's eyes widened as she looked up from the glove to see Sabel stunning Skeeter.... Skeeter, the man with missing fingers on his right hand. Something again did not add up here, but at least he appeared to be neutralized. She could straighten up now, so she did, and took a deep, shaky breath.

"You know, hiring a permanent security guard for this place might just be in the budget for next year," the Headmistress quipped in an attempt to lighten things up. Ugh, something had shattered behind Dakest, and the room now had an electric, charged energy from all the magic. They all needed to get out of here quickly before something else went wrong. "It goes without saying that we'll be pressing charges against him, Legend." She sounded almost sorry for dragging him into things. "Sabel?" Was everything alright, or at least as right as it could be, considering this encounter?

Despite the heightened senses and ability due to his condition, the Daily Prophet Editor-in-Chief was struck by more than one of the spells cast his way as he rabidly moved about. Letting out one last disgruntled spew of words as he fell, the man struck the floor completely unconscious.

The silence that followed, let alone the stillness, was almost unnatural. Sabel barely noticed the charge of energy, so consuming was the tumolit of his own emotions. He gripped his wand with white knuckles, staring at the immobilized reporter.

There were things he wanted to do. To say. To become in that instant. Things that terrified him to the core. That made him deaf to Truebridge's half-quip.

It was the sight of the man's severed fingers that reminded him, and the Headmistress speaking his name that snapped him back to an unsteady reality. It was an effort to remain on his feet, to not use the desk or chair to support suddenly unsteady legs. His eyes didn't leave the reporter.

"Leg--" He had to swallow twice just to get past the dryness in his throat. "Legend, I have reason to believe this man is under the imperious curse." Anger again. He shoved it down with another hard swallow. Forced his voice stronger than he felt. "I would ask, as a personal favor, that he receives the full weight of protection from the MLE when he comes free of it."

It wasn't his fault after all. It was hardly his fault. And yet, there was still anger.

"Him and any family he has." Finally, he managed to look at his friend and the Headmistress. "No charges will be pressed by me."

And with that, he turned to see what had shattered on his bookshelf.
