DIGGING FOR WOOOOORMS.

That was... oddly exciting. Evangeline Shacklebolt was indeed a lady, but she often couldn't help herself when it came to doing fun things that involved getting dirty. So, although digging for worms was an unusual task she normally wouldn't do, Evie was quite excited to get started.

She watched the professor with lots of interest and grabbed some pink sparkly gloves and a bucket as soon as she could. After making her way over to the base of a tree, she started clawing her gloved fingers into the ground in search for some worms.

Because that's what noise worms made in her head. She was convinced they DID make noise, they were just too tiny to hear.

...... Worm digging. Finn had not expected this and he wasn't so thrilled at the idea of having to capture little wriggling worms from the ground. At the very least, there would be gloves. Gloves which he did not have.

Finn went to collect himself some school provided gloves and a bucket, then made a face at the gloves. Glitter and pink, he could not believe his luck today. The buckets were normal looking... good!

The boy got down on his knees and began to scrape at the dirt, hoping he wouldn't have to do this for. Dig, dig, dig, dig..... No luck it seemed as of right now. Growing slightly annoyed, Finn decided to try a new area and dig some more. Eventually he found a couple of worms, wriggling its ugly brown body this way and that way and he carefully transferred them into the bucket.

Exactly how many worms were enough?

Caleb was just settling down to do some worm digging when suddenly - a worm was BY HIS FACE! He jumped and dropped his bucket loudly, only to see that it was not, indeed, a flying worm - but just Evie. Then, he burst out laughing. "What kind of noise was THAT?" he asked with a grin. He didn't think worms and slugs and lice made noises...did they?

Pondering this thought, Caleb bent down and began to dig into the dirt, collecting worms and maggots and tossing them in the bucket. Gross. There were a TON of them in his area too - it was like he had won the maggot jackpot or something.

So they were going to be seeing Bowtruckles today, not a surprise given the fact that Professor Thompson had just asked a question about them. The prospect of digging up worms was gross, but fortunately they were mixed in with the soil and not all over the ground like what happens after rain. Even with covered hands Lux wouldn't want to touch them because she didn't like worms. They gave her the heebie jeebies.

Reaching into her bag the redhead pulled out the gloves she always brought with her to Herbology class. Sparkly pink ones were cool, but it wouldn't be fair to use a pair when she already had her own - and were really good. Slipping them onto her hands, she made her way over to where the buckets were before grabbing one. Okay, time to hunt for some worms.

Too bad they couldn't hunt for chocolate instead, because she wanted a snack.

And now...time to lure some Bowtruckles over here. Something Caleb wasn't TOO pleased about but hey, you had to do what you had to do. As long as he didn't get his eyes gouged out, he was ok.

"Hereeee, little Bowtruckles," he said, shaking the bucket towards one of the trees. "MMMMM, lots of yummy WORMS and MAGGOTS," he said cheerfully. Shake shake shake. He plopped the bucket down and stepped back, waiting for something to happen...

And after a few moments, a few branch looking little things started to wander curiously over to the bucket. Success!

Locating a nice spot of soil by one of the trees, Lux figured that this was as good a place as any to do some digging.

Scooping up a ball of dirt in her hand, she made a face at all the worms squiggling away inside it. BLEEEERGH. GROSS. Despite her understanding of different people/creatures liking different foods, it was hard to think of anything wanting worms and maggots for dinner. Maybe the Bowtruckles would have felt the same way about her eating pizza and cucumber sandwiches.

Pile after pile of soil was added to the bucket and she wondered just how much was enough but didn't feel the need to ask Professor Thompson. Playing it by ear seemed like a good idea; if she took a little too much, the rest could be dumped back on the ground. Then the worms and maggots would either be free... or end up in the stomach of another Bowtruckle.

REASONABLE WAS RIGHT. More SUPER SRS NODDING from Tobes.

Except he'd had to stop bouncing to nod all srsly, and that wasn't lasting very long at all, so very soon Toby was back to bouncing away on the spot, just like he had in his earlier years at Hogwarts. WAY BACK WHEN.

Bouncebounce.

OOOOH DIGGING FOR WORMS. That was cool. EXCEPT for the part when the Bowtruckles ATE them, but circle of life, and all, Toby supposed. In any case, he was READY TO GET MOVING. Not that he wasn't already moving. BUT HE WAS READY TO GET MOVING EVEN MORE.

When they were told to get going, Toby sprang forward for a pair of those glittery pink gloves. He'd actually managed to bring along his own today, but he WANTED A SPARKLY PINK PAIR, okay? So... this was happening.

ON went the gloves, and then Toby got himself a bucket, and he was READY TO DIG FOR BOWTRUCKLE FOOD. YEEEEEAHHHH!

So bowtruckles was the order of the day. At least the creature they would be dealing with for now. Benny remembered a few things about them, including what some of the other students were saying, so he listened and took further mental notes for anything else that was important. And then it was activity time and there were instructions on what they should do or at least were expected to do.

First went the gloves on his hands after retrieving them from his knapsack. They were kind of a given when working with both creatures and plants. He then moved to pick up one of the buckets as instructed, one to hold any and all worms and maggots he might find in his search which was the next step in the process.

So heading in a direction others already weren't, Benny picked a plot of grounds for his own use and squatted down with the bucket beside him. His gaze falling over the grass in dirt for movement as he brought his hands down to touch and feel and even dig for said creatures.

Now Angel had to try and figure out what she was going to do and where she was going to get the worms from, she wanted to find some big juicy worms for the bowtruckles to eat because that would mean they would come to her sometime soon right.

Angel started to search for the worms, she found a few small ones that she put back because they weren't good enough for her... she then found a few more worms that she put into her bucket. "You'll do." Angel smiled at the worms. She got a few more in the bucket and then she smiled now all she had to do was get a bowtruckles to come over to her.

Feeling that she had a good amount of wormy soil in her bucket, Lux decided that it was time for her to lure out some Bowtruckles. Hopefully they would enjoy the lovely feast she had prepared for them.

Looking around at the different trees, she spotted one that looked like it might be a good Bowtruckle home and made her way towards it. Shaking her bucket a little, she hoped it would get their attention. "Here, Bowtruckles!! Come and get some yummy WORMS and MAGGOTS. They are DEEEELICIOUS." Hehehe.

Feeling that was enough of an announcement, Lux placed the bucket on the ground and moved off a little so that she could watch from a safe distance. At first nothing happened, but after a few moments little branch looking things started making their way over. They were definitely curious about what was in the bucket.

Agatha had been quiet so far, paying only half attention while they were in the greenhouses. She should worry less and pay more attention, she thought, but it was really difficult to try and learn something when you were worrying about... learning.

Hmph. At least she did alright in both Herbology and CoMC, so she followed everyone as they went outside and after the set of instructions she put on her gloves and grabbed a bucket.

Searching for worms and getting points for it? She was up for that. She was a lady, but not the stupid kind that was all disgusted by silly worms. Pshhh, Agatha had to deal with worse things when working for/with her uncle.

Without talking to anyone, the Slytherin knelt down and scooped a handful of earth. There were two worms there already, so she proceeded to pull one out, shaking it a bit to get rid of the excesive dirt, placing it in the bucket next to her afterwards. Agatha did the same to the second worm, her neutral expression on the edge of looking bored.

Eden had no qualms about getting her hands dirty...so...looking for worms wasn't an issue for her at all. AND she had brought her own gloves...like the GOOD student that she was. SO YEAH.

She actually found the activity REALLY cool and was all BOUNCY as she slipped on her gloves and went to pick a bucket. She had fed Daisy warms before...not her favorite thing to feed her snake, though. Worms were slimy and Daisy always took long to eat them.....back when she was eating small things like that. SO HMPH.

NOW THE FUUUUN PART!

Bucket in tow, she scanned the ground for some WORMIES. She INSTANTLY went to town, getting on her hands and knees as she SCOOOOOOPED up worm babies and plopped them into her bucket with the copious amounts of diiiiiirt. WHEEEE. This was fun and relaxing and almost like THERAPY for the Ravenclaw. She scooped a few more piles of dirt into her bucket before moving to a different spot...she didn't want to get TOO much of the same worms....nope. And what if one spot got all DRY of worms? Yeah, it was like in agriculture--you move where you plant your crop, yo. Slash and burn!

Intrigued, Lux watched as the Bowtruckles slowly reached the bucket. After sniffing for a moment they settled in for a feast.

They sure liked their bugs, and she was pleased to see how much they enjoyed the food that she had provided for them even though collecting worms and maggots had been gross. Too bad they didn't enjoy Chocolate Frogs, because she had gotten a bunch from Cutty the other day. That boy was always amazing when it came to providing her with chocolate. It was the same way with her and her manicures because she sure loved giving them to her friends in exchange for Chocolate Frogs.

Continuing to watch the Bowtruckles eat, she wondered what they would be doing next because if it involved seeing more creatures and plants it would be exciting. Outdoor classes were always amazing and that was part of why she enjoyed Care of Magical Creatures so much.

Uh huh.... okay....

As soon as this Bowtruckle stuff was going to get exciting, someone nudge him!

Though it seemed a dreadfully boring task considering DANGEROUS THINGS were the subject of discussion first up, he was still cooperative. Zeke pulled his gloves on - even if it seemed silly just for digging for worms - and collected himself a bucket. Fun times man. Fun times.

SO. He had his bucket. He had his gloves. But still now works or Bowtruckles. BUT NO MATTER. Because THAT part came NEXT.

Plonking himself down on the floor, Toby shifted onto his knees and began using his gloved hands to caaaaAAAAAREFULLY dig through the dirt. At least... HE thought he was being careful, but he had a tendency to be a little TOO enthusiastic when he was this ENERGISED. And this activity required going a little slower than the HUFFLEPUFF WAS WILLING TO GO, so he soon had a LOT OF DIRT AND WRIGGLY THINGS IN HIS BUCKET.

Toby dug through the ground, getting the pretty gloves ALL MUDDIED UP OH NO. By the time Toby added the final wriggly addition to his Bucket o' Worms and straightened up again, he was filthy. He paused a moment, to try and brush the dirt off his uniform. And bOY WAS THERE A LOT OF IT. He'd sure gotten stuck into the task.

Let the search begin. Bucket hanging limp by his side, Zeke observed their environment. How was he going to find maggots here??? .... worms yes, but maggots? Weren't they on dead things? Were there dead things here? ...

Meh.

Taking a few paces to the side, Zeke dropped his bucket to the ground and got down on his knees, his hands already working at scooping and digging away at the dirt.

Dig dig dig... dig dig dig.

It was HARD looking for worms. It was always easiest when there was fresh rain, cause they totally came up for that kinda stuff.

WATER.

Could he use his wand? Well he was going to do it anyway.

Wand out, Zeke cast a short "Aguamenti," at his half dug hole in the ground, washing away some sediments and making things a little easier to see.

And ooohhhhh!!!! Was that a?... Was that a worm?!

Using a single finger he poked around at a bit of dirt, loosening the bit on the wall of his hole.

IT WAS A WORM!

He had a worm.

One worm...

He could do more.

After adding it to the bucket, he continued to work, digging, filling, watering, digging, adding more worms to his trusty not rusty bucket.

HA-HA.

A loud giggle erupted from Evie when Caleb nearly jumped out of his own socks and dropped his bucket. Heheheh. "It was a worm noise." Duh. Obviously. She was too amused at his reaction to even care if worms really made noises or not. Grinning, Evie dropped the worm into the bucket. "I totally got you." By the way. She totally did.

But she would keep her dirty worms to herself now. Evie continued to dig and diiiig until she was sure her bucket was swarming with worms and maggots. The maggots were gross. The worms were okay.

These type of classes were her favourite ones. If her OWLs were anything like this, she would do really well, she just knew it.

Agatha kept scooping up some more dirt and picking out the worms that came with it, dropping them into the bucket. This wasn't exactly fun but she was rather good at it, if you asked her.

Her bucket was filling up with worms and she kept digging the dirt like a pro.

Seemed like dancing wasn't her only thing, SEE? She did wonder what they would be doing for Herbology that day. Hopefully something she could excel at as well.

ALRIGHT. Where were these BOWTRUCKLES at?

Except Toby obviously knew the answer. They were IN THE TREES. Duh. That was the point of this activity. So he bounced over to a free space by the trees, already tantalisingly shaking the bucket. Yeeaaahhh lil Bowtruckles. SOUP'S ON.

WORM soup. Kinda. Except not.

SHAKE SHAKE, SHAKE SHAKE, SHAKE IT. SHAKE SHAKE, SHAKE SHAKE, SHAKE IT. SHAKE SHA- waAAAIIIIITTT.

He'd seen them. Coming RIGHT FOR HIM. BOWTRUCKLES.

Or right for the bucket anyway. The bucket which Toby promptly deposited down on the floor before taking just a half a step back. He watches as the tree-dwellers POUNCED on, or rather into, the bucket, trying to be the first to get their hands on the wormy treats inside.

Amazing.

Evie did a lot more digging with her gloved hands until she had a sufficient amount of little bugs crawling around in her bucket. Probably too many, actually, but oh well. Evie stood up and brushed off her hands. Now, all she had to do was get the little buggers into the bucket!

"Heeeere, little bowtruckles," she cooed quietly, nudging the bucket closer to the tree. And one by one, a few of the little stick bugs hopped off the tree and landed right into the dirt and went after the bugs. Success!

He was done with this. He was REALLY done with this. Digging was a chore, could they not have done this part for them???

Convinced he had enough, Zeke took his bucket, briefly brushing the dirt off his knees, and approached the tree. Placing the bucket down, he took a few steps back.

"C'mon, outcha come. I got you yummy worms and things," he said toward the branches. Could they hear him? Understand him? He didn't know.

...

While he waited for one of them to take the bait - literally - Zeke plopped himself onto the grass, just watching. Waiting and watching.

AND THEN THERE IT WAS!

Zeke watched, his eyes widening as this stick-like insecty-creature thing dropped out of the tree right before his eyes and went for his bucket. HIS bucket. Success!

That seemed like a good amount of worms, in her opinion.

In other words, she was done with hunting for them and decided it was time for the next step, which was also simple enough.

Agatha got up and took her bucket of worms with her to the nearest tree. She gave the thing a shake like professor Thompson had shown them and waited.

Giving the bucket another shake, the girl finally put it down and stepped back when she saw some stickbugs bowtruckles coming towards the worms she had picked.

Weird looking creatures. Why were so many creatures so strange looking? Agatha would probably never know. But she watched them anyway.

So, it seemed the longer he continued the more worms he was gathering, slowly, but surely, at least half of his bucket was now infested with the little things.

That looked good enough, Finn gave his bucket a quick nod, almost as if he had been conferring with it about the amount of worms it held, before finding himself a tree.

Holding the bucket firmly in his hand and tilting it slightly Finn gave it a little shake shake shake and waited for something to happen. Ok, the bowtruckles could come out now, he had a job to do and he was not going to let these stubborn creatures make him fall behind on the activity.

Shake shake shake....

Stubborn things they were with him at the moment.

He grinned and was surprised with his knowledge of bowtruckles. I guess he knew more than he thought. Kace saw the Professor explaining the activity and he got it. He needed to don his gloves. Once he did that, he went up and got his bucket. Now he needed to search the ground for worms and maggots. Ewww he didn't like those creatures too much but he needed to do it for the lesson. I mean what needs to be done needs to be right? He searched and saw a lot of students by one area and he wanted to go somewhere else. He looked around and noticed some maggots and worms by this HUGE tree.

GOLD MINE! He grinned to himself and began to scoop some up into his bucket. He couldn't believe no one saw this yet. Well more for him.

Blink. Blink. Blink.

Had Sophie's Toberson just ruffled Zander's hair? Uh. Zander didn't even waste a moment before he started fixing his hair back into place. There. Now erm, what was going on??? The momentary hair distraction sort of took away from what was going on around him, but it looked like everyone was putting their gloves on now. Luckily, the Gryffindor actually remembered to bring his own dragon hide ones because no thank you to the pink and sparkly.

Those were too girly.

Anyways, he slipped on his gloves before going over to grab a bucket because apparently that was also a thing. Yeah. Buckets. No erm, what exactly were they looking for? That was important too.
