It's a known fact that fire and paper isn’t a good combination. The library has therefore always featured a sparse number of torches on the walls to minimize the danger to the books. On test this year the torches have been replaced by enchanted firefly lamps. A good number of stained glass windows grace the walls at regular intervals where the room is connected to the outside wall of the castle to ensure that adequate light comes in. Stretching from floor to ceiling these windows depict famous witches and wizards from history, important historical events and beautifully detailed magical creatures or at least that is what you should see.
Come sit down and relax in one the cushioned window seats. Read a book under the warm gaze of a healer or the roaring growl of a dragon. According to legend work gets completed faster if you sit in Rowena Ravenclaw’s window so why not try if there is any truth to it? The glass in the windows can’t be broken by spells or physical force but please be mindful and respectful of the beautiful artwork. Remember to keep your voice down since many people come to the library to study or get a moment or two of quiet.
"I wouldn't mind hearing it. What instruments do you play?" Hallie began to play with her hair again while she talked.
"That's an interesting theory. I've never thought much about names. They are just words that we call ourselves, but I guess people always make a deeper meaning in words, so maybe you're right." Halcyon, apart from being a type of bird, also meant tranquil. Hallie had never been a very tranquil person, so she'd never thought her name meant much about her. But maybe Phoenix was right about names and bird names and her. She was certainly trying to be a free spirit in her own way. "The charming thing, do you do that a lot? Does it work on people? I could use some charm of my own."
"I make my twin sing with me when she has a bad dream. What would you have me sing?" These Hogwarts boys were always asking her to do weird things: dancing lessons, cat-sitting, singing. Not that she was complaining.
Well, this was a can of worms. "Guitar, piano, drums. And I'm learning mandolin at the moment." Well, he could basically play it, and he could probably play pretty much anything you put in front of him if he tried hard enough.
"I think names are cool. Like names of characters, like... yeah... in video games and films and stuff." And books too probably, if he read them anyway. He couldn't concentrate long enough. Like, the characters in Assassin's Creed had names to do with eagles most of the time, which was kinda cool. The charming thing? "It's just automatic, it's how I am." The charming thing. He couldn't help it. "But yeah, it's a fifty fifty thing." It worked on some people, it didn't work on others.
Twin. "You have a twin? That's cool." Right? Probably. "Whatever you like singing. D'you have a favourite song?"

Too bad Abby wasn't a lion too. Then all of the sisters would be together.

He could always use spells if things went awry but he liked to do stuff with his hands. It gave a sense of personal satisfaction that his mother had taught him was important. "And besides until some terms ago the magic in the library wasn’t very stable so I guess the habit of not doing everything with the use of my wand has stayed with me."
Eyes dropping to her book he smiled. "Ancient Runes is an interesting subject and Professor Botros is one of the school’s most beloved teachers." Yes, the senior man knew how to create good lessons. The sigh Layla let out and the following comment made Leo put down his equipment to focus on her.
"Relax dear. You’ll learn and catch up with everyone else if you're just patient. Many students' who've crossed these corridors have been in your shoes and they've caught up with their peers in no time. I see no reason why you wouldn't do the same. You seem to be a smart and talented young witch." That was what the Sorting hat had had seen and in Leo's time at the school the hat had never been wrong to place a student into a certain house.
"Have you made any friends yet?"
Layla couldn’t help but to raise her eyebrows dubiously at the Librarian as he told of her of his love of being practical. “I thought it was every adults dream of not havin’ to lift a finger.” She knew her family would certainly be grateful of an extra pair of ‘hands’ around the house considering the long hours both her parents worked. “My Ma would kill for an opportunity like that.” And yet here he was showing off about having magic and then taking it all away to do some spring cleaning.
Weird fellow.
Weren’t very stable? “I’ve heard lots of stories ‘bout how this place went down the drain.” She glanced up at him, egging him on. “Sounded like this place shoulda been shut down ages ago.” Obviously they didn’t have the same authority controlling the standards in the school. They didn’t have ofsted on their backs every five minutes.
Yeah. She didn’t really care about the teacher nor was she particularly interested in the subject, she just wanted a head start. She needed to get ahead of her peers in something and with this being a difficult subject, she immediately thought of this being where to start. Excel in this and you actually look like you know something. “Never met him. Never done the subject either” she shrugged.
Now how Kitridge had deduced what Layla’s personality was like from two very brief meetings was beyond the Ravenclaw but she decided that having a falling out with her head of house was probably not the best way to go. She was protective, kept herself to herself and she hated when people judged her, even if it was positively. “We’ll see” she replied bluntly to his reassurance although she found it a little patronising even if he never meant to be.
As for his final question?
That received a stare. What a stupid question. “I ain’t here to ‘make friends’ Sir, I’ve got plenty of them at home.” No. These people were acquaintances, people who happened to go to the same school as she did. Nothing more.

Oh. Layla didn't come from an all magical bloodline that must be it and he had unintentionally hit a sore spot. He had to tread carefully. Licking his lips Leo cocked his head a little to the side as he responded cautiously. "Yes magic is useful and can make your life easier in some cases and the boring every day chores can go away with a snap. But magic doesn’t put in the love that I’m sure your mother puts into everything she does for you and your family. Love always trumphs magic." Love, devotion, trust those things weren’t something a spell could replace.
"Mr Botros is a nice man. If you talk to him he can probably give you some pointers on how you best jump into the subject. Ancient Runes is fun and interesting." Leo trailed off. Why Layla was so defensive and grumpy was the 100 galleon question. He hoped he wasn’t the reason.
Wasn’t here to make friends? Brows shooting up to his hairline at the comment Leo asked astounded. "Why don't you want to make new friends? You can't possibly want to be by yourself all term?" That would be depressing and a big reason for him to start worrying about her.
Laying tummy down on the window seat, Coral-Bay could be spotted about a quarter of the way through the Great Gatsby, a book that was surprisingly not her own or the library's but a mister Connor Jones'. Her hair was tied up in a high ponytail on her hair with a little plait going through it and a bow clinging onto the hair tie, keeping it all together.
She was currently checked out of the real world and the billion and one thoughts that had been occupying her brain for the past week and lost inside the book. Hours have passed since she first arrived, but it didn't seem to appear that she could tell or if she did, she didn't care or show it.
Her legs would shoot up and cross at the ankles every so often, especially at the particularly interesting parts of the plot. She turned the page, briefly catching sight of something out of the corner of her eye, lifting her head to peer around at her surroundings for the first time since arriving.

After the discussion with Jeremiah and making some progress with Astronomy (okay, a lie, but whatever)...Gabriel was in serious need of Mermish therapy...or Latin therapy...ANY language therapy, to be sure.
Scanning the shelves, he brush his fingers across several different titles. Some were in Latin; others just in plain English. Boring. Gabriel needed stimulus for his brain, thank you very much. There was a whole lot going on up there and he was in the mood to deal with exactly zero percent of it. Ignore the problem and it'd go away, right? Unless the problem had red hair and went by the name Clara...
He flushed involuntarily; gripping at the shelf in front of him. Everything about Clara triggered his anxiety. Why she couldn't understand this very simple fact...Well, he just didn't know. It made no logical sense. Space. Gabe needed space. Especially now...after occurrences...
Suddenly, a thick tome with "Gobbledegook" mentioned in the title caught his eye...and Gabriel tugged it down off the shelf with some force. So much so, that he knocked back into the one behind him, nearly dropping the newly acquired book. Weight distribution and momentum hadn't been factored into the tugging...See?! His mind wasn't anywhere near right at the moment. The science of things had been disregarded!
A quiet place to read...That's all he was asking for. The stained glass windows seemed well suited enough. Of course, the last time he'd set eyes on them, Clara had been there...and he'd ran, of course. Approaching them now, Gabriel didn't see a Clara...but he seen another familiar...head. Head because she had her back towards where he was standing.
CB seemed to be engrossed, so...he took a seat (as far away as possible) and cracked the goblin text open. Yes, Gabe intended to forget a girl was nearby...but because Coral Bay had saved him...and then helped him....he couldn't disregard her as easily. Sentiment....owing someone.....Ugh.

Rolling over, with the book in her hands and now held above her head, Coral's eyes darted across the pages as she read. Muggle books were.. strange and full of a lot of emotions. She didn't mind emotions, not at all- however, she liked them to be a bit controlled and didn't exactly like the whole rollercoaster of them that these books seemed to bring with them.
She moved the book from over her head to rest it against her legs, which were now folded, feet against the cushion, giving her a nice place to prop it while she continued through it.
Although...
Maybe now was a good time for a break. She slipped her thumb into the pages and closed the book, sitting up and looking around for the bookmark she'd had earlier. Tucking her hair behind her ear, so it didn't keep disrupting her view, the girl looked around a little wildly. Had it fallen? She peered over the edge of the seat, seeing it just on the ground there.
She reached to pick it up as her vision caught sight of a familiar shape. Familiar person, really. She flashed him a smile and tucked her bookmark into the pages where her thumb was currently slipping out of.
"Hi."

Okay, Gabriel had failed at ignoring her. There. He said it.
Not looking up from his book, he turned a page...proud that it didn't shake between his fingers.
"Hello."
Did he look sufficiently busy and unbothered?........Guh, this was EFFORT.

Staying where she was, she put the book beside her and gripped the seat lightly with both hands, watching him.
Was it weird to admit that she'd thought about him during most of the wedding? Mostly because of the book... and the fact that he'd answered her owl which she hadn't exactly expected. Not that he'd said much. But still, she appreciated it.
Lifting a hand, she tucked some hair behind her ear, eyes darting down to her shoes, trying to pretend like she wasn't staring.
"So... you found your book? I never got a chance to ask.. um.. What book was it?" He looked... busy. Maybe she ought to shut her trap and go back to her own book. She swung her feet a little bit, keeping her eyes on them, resisting the urge to keep peeking at him.

Hunching down a bit, trying to quell the anxious urges to dart from the area, Gabe nodded. He was doing a good job of staying mildly calm, too. A first, for sure.
He could thank his sister for making him feel incredibly self-conscious about that.
Breathing deeply through his nose, Gabe responded slowly, making a real effort to keep the stutter out of his words. Sweat was already gathering on his temple...unfortunately..."......................Ceorlic...had...uh, still has it." Another breath. Another page turned. "...........Mermish. The...language."
There was a slight tremble.

"Did you finish it?" She moved back a little in the window seat and pulled her legs up, folding them pretzel style. Head ever so slightly tilted, she allowed herself a good peek at the boy, taking brief notice of how uncomfortable he seemed.
Maybe...
Maybe she ought to leave him be.
She picked her own book back up and placed it in her lap, leaving a long pause from when he spoke, thinking about what she should do- or could do to make him more at ease.
She continued to keep quiet, debating whether she should go back to reading or leave or something and decided that she didn't want to be the reason for him to get upset.

Uncomfortable wasn't an adequate word to describe what Gabe was at the moment. Frustrated was MUCH better suited...but he wasn't sure why. The most logical explanation was words and general speech. Simple questions had been asked...and he was struggling to get the words out to answer. No, there shouldn't have been anything difficult about responding to singular questions...And he definitely shouldn't have been sweating and trembling at the moment.
Ruby was right...wasn't she? He was a defensive jerk...?
The possibility, alone, made him want to attempt to do this communication thing; discomfort despited. At least he was familiar...kinda...with CB. So, it took some of the edge off. They'd, uh, helped each other...
Gabe trembled a bit more; the shake leaking into his next round of words. "It's...um, a l-language book...an, erm, a comprehensive guide to...uh, learning the M-Mermish language...." His cheeks flushed deeply with embarrassment at the stuttering...but Gabe couldn't help it. He buried his face into the book, giving himself a moment to cool his face.

But then again, she realized if he was truly really uncomfortable- he probably wouldn't have sat down here in the first place. There was no way she'd missed him earlier when she first started reading... which clearly meant he wanted to be here. Kinda.
She wanted to move closer, so she didn't have to feel like she was shouting, even though she wasn't. But she was torn. She didn't want to leave, she didn't want him to leave, so maybe this was the compromise. Staying sat here unless he calmed a bit or gave her some sort of hint that he wouldn't die if she got too close.
While his face was in the book, she gave him a comprehensive nod, which he probably wouldn't see, she noted. "You like languages? Or just mermish? I don't know any mermish.. but I know some other languages." She flashed him a sort of, what she thought was, a comforting smile and played with her shoe laces.
Why mermish?

Quidditch magazine in hand, Lux wandered over to one of the window seats. It had been a little while since she had read anything to do with her favourite sport, so she felt like a bad fan. Not her fault that she had school work, a boyfriend, and friends.
Flipping through the pages, she hummed songs from The Little Mermaid under her breath. No need to get into trouble with Mr. Kitridge for being loud, though she couldn't really picture the man being mad at anyone in all honesty.

Clara hadn't been in the library for quite some time. Of course, she'd stocked up on books in her room but now that supply had been diminished. The reason for not visiting the library was that she was avoiding bumping into a certain male Ravenclaw and the library was a place where that was likely to happen. The odds were already quite high, given the fact they were in the same house, there was no need to raise them any further if it could be helped.
She looked around the library cautiously but he was no where to be seen.
Relieved, she took a book from a nearby shelf and found a comfortable place to sit in front of one of the stained glass windows. Peace, quite and Latin. That was all she needed right now.

Something that happens when one is enchanted and can't remember what really happened, that person does not remember where she put anything. As she looked for her Snap Cup in her office she noticed she still had books that needed returned. Not really remembering when she checked them out, they had to be passed due and even though she really enjoyed visiting the librarian she did not want passed due books to be the reason.
Finally taking them back and picking up a few more, she was a bit disappointed she didn't see Leo, but noticed the sign that he had stepped away. Well it was for the best, he was probably visiting Sophia and even if he wasn't, she still wasn't sure exactly what went on while she was not herself.
Stopping at the stained glass window, Cassie looked up at the beauty and decided she'd take a seat and read a little bit.

The library? Why was she here? Yeah, to work on homework. That's right. The common room was too, loud the dorms too crowded. The study area in the common room was too quiet. There were books everywhere. She was never opening up another book other than a text book again. She dodged by most of the shelves. She knew where she was headed. Hopefully she could get this homework done here.
She headed over to the strained glass windows there were plenty of places for her to seat and work on homework. Which was the only reason she'd ever be in the library.
Hoping their wasn't many people around either. Two things that she couldn't do was books and large crowds or a lot of people at once. When she got over to the seats she was relieved to see that there was one other person there. Professor Cassie. "Hey, Professor Cassie. How are you?" Back to herself as well she hoped. She asked as walked by. She found a place to sit down not to far away from where she was sitting to maintain a quiet voice while she talked to the professor. They were in the library for merlins sake not outside. So she needed to use inside voice here. Keep it at a three Cinna keep it at a three.

She had fully fell into her reading and had no clue what was going on around her. Even after the enchantment issue, Cassie couldn't help, but read good books. She loved books and no mean Fairy Tale book was going to change that.
Hearing someone say her name the blonde lifted her green eyes and smiled. "Cinnamon, hello. How are you?" Did she need to apologize to her as well? She seemed to not have the weird look of Cassie had done something wrong, like many of the students had. She couldn't believe how many were looking at her like she would snap at any minute.
"How are you today dear? Doing some homework?" She had spent many hours in this library as a student so it was a the most logical thought.

After Cinna had sat down she put her bag on the table. Then turned her attention back to professor Cassie. Cinna had always found it so weird talking to professors outside of lessons. But not where she'd avoid them altogether.
That was a good question. How was she? She half shrugged as she spoke "I'm alright I guess." At least she was back to herself again. Instead of a cleaning freak. Her dad would love to have like that at home. So all the cleaning stuff. Yeah. He didn't need to know.
She guessed professor Cassie was also back to herself. She seemed to be. She was back to her self. She nodded "Oh yeah, it's better than crowded and loud common room. And no distractions." She grinned rather sheepishly for some reason at the last part.

She couldn't help, but hear the I guess. Giving her a sympathetic look she wasn't sure she should ask any further. Since she didn't have any memories of the last few weeks she didn't know if she should know what was going on or not. "Well if you need to talk about anything, you know my office is always open." The offer was there if the child needed it.
Looking down at her book she glanced around to see if Leo just happened to be around and then focused back on Cinna, "Oh I can understand that. The common room is such a nice place to socialize, but sometimes studying is a bit hard. This use to be one of my favorite places to study and just read." Somethings didn't seem to change since she had found herself there again. "Umm Cinna please be careful what you read though. I guess there is a book floating around that is doing some weird things." She didn't remember much of it, but from what others had told her, it was a book.

Cinna didn't really know why she added that 'I guess' to the end. Of that. She guessed she was fine. But then again she guessed she could be bad too. Everything fine with her, but then again not really. This being a big sister thing keep creeping up on her. It bother her sometimes but then again there was a whole lot of other things nothing her too. She nodded. "Yeah. I know." Though she wasn't sure how she felt about talking to a professor about some of the stuff that was on her mind. Why did being a teenager have to be so hard? Actually could they talk here a bit. "Professor? Uh do you like being a professor?" Silly question really? Wasn't it? Career stuff next year being her O.W.L year and all. Yes. They were on her mind already.
Cinna kind of couldn't help to notice Cassie's looking for something. Was she expecting someone? She nodded. "Yeah. Sometimes it's not a good place to study. So I thought I'd try it out. Haven't spent much time in here." Was that a bad thing to tell a professor? Eh probably. She totally that that Cassie was going to tell her not to read the books in the restricted section. She nodded though. "Yeah, I know." Someone should've warned her earlier. And professor Cassie too. Yep that would have been helpful.

Well at least Cinna knew she could come to her office if she needed anything. She had really thought about making her office and open door policy instead of her little waiting area. Maybe it would make the students more welcomed to come to her. If she did that though, what would she do with those cute little bounce chairs. She could probably just leave them for anyone who wanted to use them. Her thoughts distracted by a question. "Oh yes, I love it actually. I followed my signs to become one and I'm so glad I did, because it's been the most rewarding thing." Though this term was a bit off, but she chalked it up to a learning experience.
"I hope you enjoy it here. I always liked to sit near the dragon, though he distracted me at times." The stained glass windows were so pretty, how couldn't people just stare at them in awe. "The lions probably are very social in their common room." She had noticed they were very vocal for the most part, which would probably make some interesting common room conversations. She glanced at Cinna with her comment and frowned, "Well that's good." She was still struggling to figure out what all happened, so she didn't want her students to have to deal with it.

Pietra liked the library. She'd quickly found it to be a safe-haven from the crazyness of the school filled to the brim with sometimes very loud students. But today she had another reason to be there. The beautiful stained glass windows that were so inspiring were perfect for her next sketch to her brother. It was so lovely that there were so many beautiful scenes and places and things for her to recreate and send to Rigo. It was almost like he was at Hogwarts with her.
She was seated at window that depicted Rowena Ravenclaw, the founder of her own house. It was a very pretty setting, but her eyes were trained on the window just beyond hers, a fire breathing dragon. She assumed that her brother would appreciate that much more. Pausing briefly from her work, she glanced thoughtfully at the pretty, pretty window and imagined what it had been like to make it in the first place.

Actually the more she thought about it the more she realized that maybe it wasn't that weird to talk to professors out side of the classroom. It was actually kind of nice. She was surprised by this. Teaching had crossed her mind. And when anyone asked her about any prospective career choices that's what she mostly told people. Her grandma had been a potions professor at a WU for a long time. She maybe she was destined to do that too. Although she never thought about that. "I've considered it. It just seems like all of my friends know exactly what they want it do. I don't know." Yeah she was a month from turning fifteen but had been weighting on her mind for a while now.
She turned and looked at the dragon for a moment or two. She could really understand the distraction. She nodded. "I can see why." It was like it was trying to distract her now. She looked back at her again. "Most of us are I suppose." She said with a little laugh. It was the truth loud and outspoken. Yep that was the Gryffindor way. Obviously. She sighed. "It's all sorta foggy still. I sorta remember some stuff. But not really." It was kind hard to explain really. Unless you went through it yourself.
