On the last saturday afternoon of the month of March Leo was arranging and the library, near the stained glass windows for the first and only book club meeting of the year. His kneazle Madonna was doing her best to help but Leo ended up stumbling over her more than once so it hindered more than it helped. By the time he had set up all the bean bag chairs in multiple colours and gotten a big table fixed with tea, coffee, juice and cinnamon rolls Leo was pretty hot and frazzled.
Slumping down in a navy blue bean bag chair Leo wiped his forehead with a tissue and catched his breath as he eyed the time on his wrist watch. Luckily for him he had several minutes to spare before the student's would start arriving. Pulling out a parchment he had prepared earlier with notes he skimmed it over as he waited with his white kneazle curling up into a ball at his feet.
Ooc: Welcome to the only book club meeting this term. Come on in and find a bean bag to sit on. The meeting will begin shortly!

What was this idea Abraham had? Something about runes? The idea sounded intriguing, though she had to admit that she didn't know much about runes. "Professor Botros, would this require everyone performing this runic.. expression? It sounds quite complicated." She was confident enough in her magical skills that she could learn it quickly enough, but she wasn't sure enough students would be up for it.
But before she could ruminate too much on the topic, she smelled something glorious. Heavenly baking scents wafted towards her from the general direction of the restricted section. Gurgle, rumble, grrroooooowwwwl. When was the last time she had eaten? Too long ago, according to her stomach. "Perhaps Professor Flamsteed could use some assistance with that student who brought food in.." She sidled off in his general direction.

Cassie was standing there feeling like a true dumb blonde. She was confused and just staring. One minute they were to pick up a book to start reading, the next she was with the other professors talking about how to catch this book if it did come and Nessa had the ah-mazing idea to freeze it and then Abe had a Runic idea. Now this is where her brain said.. Runes HAHAHAHAHA.. Shutting down... beep beep.. boom. .off. She had never been good in Runes. It was awful so the Professor stood quietly nodding her head pretending to look smart. Yep that's how she rolled when it came to Runes, did it as a student would do it now.
Theeeeeeen the focus went to smells and food for some. "I think Mr. Kitridge has enough cinnamon rolls for everyone." If that's what they were smelling or talking about. Gosh she had lost track of what they were doing and she didn't like feeling stupid. "So book catching, yes. Professor Botros, Professor Tanner has a good question. Is this something we all have to do." Hopefully these students knew how to do it, because the last Runic she chanted, she was positive turned to bad luck instead of good.

Oh look Botros was here now and he was talking about stuff they'd covered in class. Man oh man this was one of those times when class knowledge became applicable elsewhere and suffice to say the Gryffindor was feeling pretty smart right about now, being on perfect level with what the Professor was going on about. It. Felt. Good.
Until...you know...the Headmistress went and did a MAJOR violation that sent the Head Girl up and flying right over to her. "Noooo!! What--it--no--what???" BREEEEATHE. " You can't use MY candy to make circles on the floor! No. Nooo." She didn't even ASK. There was like zero chance she would have said yes but at let her feel like she still had SOME control over the bag and contents that rightfully belonged to HER.
"Have someone run down the Muggle Studies classroom for some red sharpies." How could anyone disgrace candy like this???? This was a SACRED COMMODITY to be cheeeerished and held dear--NOT run along the ground to find some bloody book that was gonna find them anyway. No no no no no no absolutely not no. Something told her her protests were hardly being considered but this was a serious matter.
That bag and therefore those packets of SUGARY GOODNESS were HERS and Alexa Christina Cambridge did NOT share SWEETS. "Professor Botros tell her, tell her we have to use something else." He was Deputy, and when you didn't get to the Head, you went straight for the Deputy because your Head of House was off on a pastry hunt. Simple stuff really.

Professor Tanner was asking good questions. Lux really wanted to know what they were doing. There seemed to be a lot of game plans and idea changes, though she hoped that the Runic Ward thing would work.
Lex freaking out was kind of funny though. "It's okay, Lex. I have a red marker. I might have more, but even with just one your candy is fine."

Grabbing a random book from the nearby shelf, ironically a copy of The Hairy Heart: A Guide to Wizards Who Won't Commit, he slid beside Mr. Adair and pretended to read from the text. "Reverse psychology, Mr. Adair. In order to be found perhaps it is going to the most obvious of locations. It could very well be that that giggling book enjoys this little...chase it has us on. When I was a young man playing hide-and-seek and sardines in the castle, I would often hide in the more obvious of places simply to play mind games with the people I was playing with. Became quite fun really..." he said as his eyes glazed over while oh-so-casually pretending to read whatever page of the book he had opened up to. There was also the historical significance of "open at the close"...but that hardly seemed relevant right now. "Seems to be acting like a nonsensical child."
The Gryffindor could hardly even pay attention to the book as interesting as it was. With all this commotion about the mysterious giggling book, Zander wanted to be apart of the real action! The search and even though they couldn't find it before, he hardly thought that reading books would be the real solution here. But when Professor Flamsteed came and slid right by him, Zander was kind of curious. Was he here to inquire about the book the Gryffindor had taken out? 'Cause coincidentally it was the Professor's recommendation and everything. However, when the Astronomy Professor began to speak, it was evident that he had other intentions.
Oh. Reverse psychology well... That kind of made sense? As Airey went on to explain, Zander nodded his head a little bit, eyes still on his book- though he was hardly doing any reading at this point. "I- Oh, well I reckon that makes sense, Professor... 'Specially if the book wants to taunt us," would it have been possible for Flamsteed to have been a Ravenclaw in a past life? 'Cause this guy was always full of useful information, or so thought Zander anyways. He and Lottie were like the wisest people in the entire universe. Or at least in all of Hogwarts.
And especially in all-- Huuuuuuuh?
What was that beautiful smell and could he possible have some? And at the scent, Zander's stomach let out a HUGE grumble. Looking around sheepishly, the Gryffindor clutched his arm around his stomach, "I-uh-I-Sorry," he said to no one in particular.
Hanging onto straws the Headmistress was indeed. Like Airey, Lux, and Kevin, she too smelled something delicious wafting around the library. Was that Leobald's cinnabuns again? She hadn't even gotten to try one of those and now someone was baking more.... or... were they?
She tapped her chin idly. "Alright, if any of us encounters the book, I think we should try the reading thing first, as in turning its pages and all that, and then someone else will need to sneak up on it and try freezing it...." Er, what was this idea Abraham had? "Something red, you say?" She opened up the bag she'd forgotten she was wearing and started rooting around in Alexa's mess for something red. Ugh, this bag was mostly wrappers and stale candy. Still, some of the mess was red...
She pulled out a red powder candy tube, which she knew had pure sugar in it because she had caught her son sneaking one, and offered it to Botros. "Would this work? I have red candy wrappers and more sugary... red things in here....." Just don't ask WHY.
As for the scent of freshly baked buns which was just permeating the air... Annie looked up to see Flamsteed already heading in that direction. "In the words of the Head Girl," she looked at him, "go 'bust that guy' for whatever he has." And he'd better have enough to share with the whole Book Club/Search Party group.

More discussion followed and it was hard for her to keep up with it when the library smelled so good that she was getting hungry. Professor Botros mentioned the trapping Runic Ward and she could remember drawing the big capturing one in class. She didn't have a giant red paintbrush, but there was a red marker in her bag which she pulled out. "Would this work, Professor?"
When he said he needed red pigment, Botros meant something a little more sophisticated than red candy powder. He slowly took the tubes from the headmistress nodding, and questioning that bag she was wearing. What else did she hide in there, hmm? Hmm? "It works." He confirmed, fiddling with the wrapper when he heard one of his good students give out a muggle red marker. He smiled at her and nodded his thanks, "This works, too." The girl must've recognized what he was going to do from one of his lessons. He made a mental note that was bound to be forgotten soon to reward her extra.

Botros then turned to Tanner. "You don't have to say the incantation, but it will definitely help if we surround the layout of the spell I'm going to make and point your wands with me."
He turned to look at the rest of his colleagues who were close and explained further. "The spell is like a protective ward. It will bind any magical entity that comes within its radius to this place temporarily. The charm breaks when one of the runes is physically damaged." Meaning they would be also bound to this place if they got into this ward he was creating, and they needed to keep the kids from getting too close or damaging the powder-made runes.

... oh for Odin's sacred eye. Botros watched as Cambridge threw a fuss over the candy tubes, and wondered if they should demote her to first year right this second..? He exchanged looks with Annie but ended up chuckling. "On the contrary, dear. I'm sure you'll be willing to share your most precious possessions to save yourself and your friends. One last grand stand before graduation, eh?" He grabbed her shoulder strongly and squeezed encouragingly. The red muggle marker could work but it was not enough. Powder was more convenient quantity-wise.
NOW. "We need an empty, big area." An empty big table maybe? Botros was looking at Leobald.

Adi had followed Professor Botros back from the fifth floor and had remained standing in a corner as he listened to all the plans and stuff. He was really interested in the Deputy Head's suggestion for trapping the book.
Red stuff.. Adi pressed his lips together. He wanted to laugh at Lex's tantrum but he sort of got where she was coming from. But hey, there were more important things right now. Like catching that giggling book!

Even that Lux girl was insisting they didn't have to use the candy. See? See that? The way she was offering her marker and how she'd said that they wouldn't need to use the candy. Was Lex the only one listening to the Hufflepuff? Apparently so because Botros was disregarding it in favour of STILL using her sugar.
By now the Gryffindor must have gone red in the face, not embarrassed in the least by her display but rather, quickly reacquainting herself with a temper she didn't have enough zeal to experience in the longest while. Nothing to upset you when you didn't care and all that but now, now she definitely cared. Steal her candy bag, hold it hostage for months then rummage around in it like they'd been there the day she picked it off the shelf and let her father pay for it.
Suffice to say Alexa didn't care about grand last stands, nor did she care to save anyone. She had been possessed and she got over it. Same as others. Nothing new. He was wrong in thinking she wouldn't mind sharing but the fact he'd turned away to go ahead with it anyway, that was like the hook line and sinker in the case against her. Lex had no choice but to watch as they continued to desecrate her valuables, now too annoyed to speak.
When she got her bag back she'd have to burn everything in it, some form of ritualistic cleaning really, then buy a whole new stock. For now, disgruntled looks as she bit into her sandwich again. If she found that book before they did, she'd burn that too for bringing all this added sacrifice she'd never signed up for.

Jasmine's head went back and forth, listening to all of the suggestions that everyone was giving. They were to pretend to be reading? This book was clever and clearly enjoying the little game of hide and seek that it was playing. Jasmine wasn't sure that it would fall for that trap. They would have to be quicker and smarter than the glowing book.
Then it seemed that there would be some rune drawing. Would they get to recreate the capturing charm that the recently learned in Ancient Runes? Jasmine would help and so would her teammates who were present, she was sure. Speaking to no one in particular, she asked, "What can we do to help?" Surely there was something they could do, besides fake reading.

Andy might or might not be the last one. But hey, he was checking the grounds and those were far from here. Sort of. Anyway, he was here now. Apparently the book was not found, since everyone seemed to be discussing when he stepped inside. He nodded at no one and everyone slinking into the group with his hands in his pockets. Did the Gryffindor follow him? It was a bit crowded and he might have lost track of who was already here when he stepped inside. Yeah, that fast.
"Anything on the book?" He asked glancing at the grownups but expecting an answer from one of the kids, too. Those just loved to talk. "No trace of it on the grounds," Duh. Else he would have opened with 'the book was glimpsed somewhere'

Leo waited and watched as the students and staff started to trickle back into the meeting area their search for the book unsuccessful. And then it felt like everyone was sprouting out ideas left and right. It was hard to keep up. Sniffing the air Leo felt his mouth water as he mumbled to himself."Someone has just baked buns." Ignoring the growl that came from his stomach he shot a look over in the headmistress direction before he stood up straighter and raised his voice over the clamour of voices. "We should really see who is baking goods in the library. I don't want any precious books defaced or injured or in worst case burned up." Shudder. "Professors Flamsteed,Tanner and Walton will you help me search the library for the person baking goods?" Eyes drifting over the student’s he added. "And all students who wants' to help can of course come too."
Leo was starting to walk towards the front desk area when Abraham stopped him asking for a big table and a large empty area. Raising a hand to scratch his head he said "Feel free to take any large table you can find in here Abraham. As for a large empty area, that's a little harder since the library is pretty crammed with bookcases but I give you permission to widen this area where we are right now as much as you need. And also to move any book cases, chairs, tables as you see fit." Leo was giving Abraham pretty free hands.
"Let's go find the culprit that is baking goods in the library!" Leo ordered as he marched out towards the front desk area only stopping to give Zoe Tillstorm and James Rodemiere very pointed looks. The library was not lover's lair and there were more pressing and important things going on than young love.
She saw the look for Mr. Kitridge and sat up quickly, finally realizing what she had done and flushed glancing towards James. "Err....right...follow the smell." she said moving to get up and follow Leo and the others towards where the smell was coming from.

Who invited HIM here?
There was no way Zander was going with the group of Professor's to find the baked goods. No matter how hungry he was. He would stay put right here. As far away from that evil mad as he could possibly be. All eyes on Botros now. MHM.

Wait, what? Shocked, Lux blinked.
Why was her marker being ignored for candy when it would work? As silly as Lex looked having a tantrum over candy, the redhead could definitely understand where the Seventh Year was coming from. Candy was awesome and she supposed something that Lex didn't want to give up even for the greater good. Maybe she didn't have a choice in the matter though.
A few more people arrived, and Lux sent them smiles. It was nice to have more people there to assist with putting a stop to this book. Mr. Kitridge was asking for volunteers to come with him and deal with whoever had the buns, but as tempting as the food smelled she wasn't sure about going. Maybe she could help here. "Professor Botros, can I do anything to help you draw the Runic Ward?" On top of being helpful, she could also improve her knowledge of Ancient Runes. Two birds, one stone.

Good, her and Flamsteed weren't crazy. Well... at least she knew she wasn't. The verdict was still out on Flamsteed. "Right behind you, Leobald." It was the Ravenclaw heads against the bun bakers. Plus some other helpers. She followed Leobald deeper into the labyrinth of shelving.

Okay so everything seemed to be proving fruitless. Benny hadn't found anything in the Gryffindor tower when he had been sent there on the errand. And his housemate hadn't noticed anything around there either. So then they had gathered back on the seventh floor landing, each with their negative results before heading further down to the sixth floor to search there as well. Well that's what he had found once he had finished with his search and managed to find his group..
And still there had been nothing before word was spread to decide to head back to the library. Slipping back to the area where the book club meeting had originally started, he found a few students and Botros there waiting while others had seemed to head into the stacks and the fourth year was just a touch confused. And maybe a little lost himself "What needs to be helped with?" he asked curiously.
Angel had just been sat there trying to figure out how they could get the book... maybe they could blindfold someone and then use someone else as bait... maybe someone like Alexa who was okay but a bit weird. "What do you need help with?" Angel really wanted to help the Librarian out... she felt a bit upset about annoying him earlier.

"Oh please, Alexa," the Headmistres rolled her eyes at the dramatic girl and plucked from her bag the rest of the red powder candy tubes for Botros. She pressed them into his hand and then slid the bag off over her head. "Here," she held it out to Cambridge. "Take it. Hogwarts thanks you for your donation."
Now, how could they help with this runic spell thing? "Angel, Ben, Lux..." she called out the names of the nearest students. "Let's clear off that table," she pointed to the nearest one to their book club area, "and get to work!"

Already a step ahead of you there, Leobald. Okay, well, now maybe a few steps behind as the librarian departed...but you didn't need to tell this astronomer twice to follow his nose.
Taking a few more eager steps in the direction of the Restricted Section, Airey gave Mr. Adair a firm pat on the back as he passed, with the book he had selected from the bookshelves tucked under his arm. "Come on, Mr. Adair," he grinned at the young man. "Baked goods await! I-I mean...time for you to show me what Mr. Longbottom has told you about standing up to those not doing the right thing..." And, just in case the boy was planning on protesting, he grabbed his arm to drag him along for the ride.
Which also included passing by Miss Cambridge. "You ought to come along as well," he said, clearing his throat. "You don't need to see this." Meaning the guts of her precious candy being used for runic artwork. He gave a nod in the direction of the Restricted Section and inhaled the sweet aromas once more. Oooooooooooh yummy!
Reaching to give Miss Cambridge a nudge with his arm, the book he had been holding on to fell with a dull thud on the floor just by Miss Guidry's feet...cover down. Eyes bulging out of his head at just what he had been holding on to, The Hairy Heart: A Guide to Wizards Who Won't Commit, he quickly released Mr. Adair so he could bend over to scoop it up and shoved it back on one of the shelves nearby. Most likely the wrong shelf at that. "Ah, Miss Guidry. Why don't you come as well then," he stammered just as another sweet breath filled his nostrils and distracted him from the awkward predicament he may have just put himself in.
"It's as Toucan Sam always says, 'Follow your nose! It always knows!'" he declared with a triumphant point towards the Restricted Section. The gesture was then followed by long strides in the very direction he had just indicated with the three students in tow. Giddy skip to his every step.

Sophie had returned with Botros and the rest of their group and instinctively gravitated to where Tobes was, happy that he was there and safe and he hadn't been possessed by the book. She wasn't thrilled about reading like everyone else, though, and kept her attention firmly on the professors as they discussed their plans of action - then she had a DECISION to make. Her Head of House was inviting whoever wanted to come to go investigate the very alluring smell wafting through the library... so she could go with him and make sure he didn't die or anything, but she could also stay with Botros and maybe help with the capturing runic charm she felt SUPER confident about doing, after the dynamite teamwork in the lesson for it.
When it came down to it, the decision to stay and potentially impress Botros with her improvements in runes was much more important than going adventuring with Kitridge and the crew.
"I can help," she offered, crossing over toward the selected large table and helping clear the tabletop while smiling at the runes professor, Lux, Benny, and Angel. "I can draw a mean Algiz, if y'want our help drawing, professor." Unless he wanted to do it all himself to make sure it was perfect, for which she couldn't really blame him. No offense would be taken. "Or whatever y'need." She could be flexible in her assistance, certainly.

DONATION??? This was theft if she ever saw it, highway robbery more like. Lex stared and stared as the Headmistress fished the rest of the powdered sugary candy from her bag then slip it over her head and hand it to her. This wasn't a donation. Not by a long shot--and why was Professor Walton here? Who invited him? Seriously, as if this book club meeting wasn't annoying enough already.
Not being particularly thrilled to help the others spread her candy all over the place, Lex was relieved to have Professor Airey invite her along for the baking hunt. More food though meant she needed to get rid of this one and a few more large bites took care of that.
Merlin, she should have taken the iced tea too. It was almost painful getting it all down--but so unbelievably worth it and she didn't regret the sandwich for even a minute. Off to the bake sale no one was invited to!
Now then. "Right behind you Professor." She said, slipping on her candy bag for the first time in months then heading off after her Head of House. Fit like it was meant to. Really, she'd missed this.

There was Angel, who apparently had also returned from whereever her group had been sent in the great castle search. Benny couldn't help the ever so small smile that briefly graced his face as she echoed his own question. So what was it they were currently setting about doing. Something that apparently involved Lex or at least her belongings and the fourth year watched the exchange between head girl and headmistress as it unfolded before him.
Okay...something he had certainly missed.
But Alexa left with Flamsteed before anything else happened. And his own name had been named by Truebridge along with Angel and Lux to help what was happened right then and there. Right...clearing off the table. "Will do..." he said with a nod, Ben obediently moving to the pointed out piece of furniture outside the original meeting configuration of beanbags and table of goodies. The boy starting to talk books and items off the wooden surface one by one.

Yes, the Gryffindor had followed. Had she been out-of-shape, she would've been out of breath, but nope. And it seemed like everyone else had had the same luck as her and Professor Walton. As in, no book.
Was someone baking something? In the library? Really? Plus, drawing Runes with candy. Not just any candy, but the Head Girl's candy. Man, the Headmistress was lucky, because had it been anyone else, Cambridge might've bitten their hands off. Yeah, Heather wanted nothing to do with that, least it come back to bite her in her rear. So, she set off to follow the librarian and her Head of House. Even though Professor Airey hadn't invited her (hurmph). The librarian had said that any student who wanted to could come.

Jasmine was on standby, awaiting her assignment. She hoped that there was something useful that she could do to help with the book search and capture. Then it appeared that Professor Flamsteed was rounding up the troops. As he gathered students, something unexpected happened. Before she knew it, the Professor's book had fallen on the floor right in front of her. Looking down Jasmine caught sight of the Professor's choice of reading material. Stifling a laugh she pretended that she saw nothing.
Maintaining a straight face with difficulty, Jasmine responded. "Yes Professor, I'll come along. I'm right behind you.". With that, Jasmine headed into the restricted section where the scent of baking sweets had become quite overwhelming.

You know, for someone who was as horrible at Runes as he was, Zander was more than willing to stick around and help Botros. Although he might've been the least enthusiastic of the group given circumstances. If it weren't for Wicked Walton, Zander would've been one of the first to help solve the Hogwarts Mysteries of the year. He wanted to save the world one day, so you've gotta start small and-- Huh?
And before he knew it his arm was being yanked by... Flamsteed? Oh. The Gryffindor wanted to refuse because of something along the lines of 'not if he'd be there' with general head motions towards a certain Herbology Professor, but something within him kept him quiet about the matter. After all Flamsteed had done for him... And one look down at the book that was in his right had confirmed it. Yeah, okay he owed the Astronomy Professor. At least this once.
'Sides, though he may have not admitted it, he was kind of glad to get away from the whole runic chants thing. It wasn't really his forte after all. Much rather be doing the saving stuff thank you very much. Besides, Lex was coming now too so it was bound to be better on this side of things. Getting up from his seat on the floor, Zander walked right up besides the Professor as he started collecting the other two for the journey-- not like he had much of a choice actually. And he was getting really hungry. Maybe... Maybe there would be enough pastries to share!!! "Coming, sir!" He was also about to ask if the arm holding thing could stop, but then he was released at last so that wasn't actually needed.
As for that book choice though....?
Ahem. Right. The baked goods. He wanted some, and there'd be none left for Wicked Walton if he had anything to say about it.
