Book Club Meeting!

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2.../BookClub1.jpg

On the last saturday afternoon of the month of March Leo was arranging and the library, near the stained glass windows for the first and only book club meeting of the year. His kneazle Madonna was doing her best to help but Leo ended up stumbling over her more than once so it hindered more than it helped. By the time he had set up all the bean bag chairs in multiple colours and gotten a big table fixed with tea, coffee, juice and cinnamon rolls Leo was pretty hot and frazzled.

Slumping down in a navy blue bean bag chair Leo wiped his forehead with a tissue and catched his breath as he eyed the time on his wrist watch. Luckily for him he had several minutes to spare before the student's would start arriving. Pulling out a parchment he had prepared earlier with notes he skimmed it over as he waited with his white kneazle curling up into a ball at his feet.

Ooc: Welcome to the only book club meeting this term. Come on in and find a bean bag to sit on. The meeting will begin shortly!:D

Magical Soul 11-08-2014 01:59 PM

Botros loved books, and as usual every term, he made sure that he attended at least one of Leo's book club meetings. This term, things were going busier than usual, but Ab hurried along his lesson to catch the meeting held one floor below his classroom.

Wearing his shirt and cardigan, the old man knocked on the door and walked in with his cane in his right hand. "Hello Leo." Look at him, the oldest and weakest in the group and yet the first to be here. Only he couldn't sit at those beanbags seats, so he looked around for a sturdier seating to use.

Bazinga 11-08-2014 02:25 PM

Seeing the notice about the recent book club meeting Cassie tried to decide whether or not she should even go. She had been avoiding the library for reasons since the Prefect event. If she could only remember the things the students had been telling her. Deciding that going could give her a distraction away from the queen stuff she made her way to the library and looked around.

Hoping she'd be one of the later ones so she could possibly just sneak in and sit off to the side Cassie inwardly sighed as she noticed she was one of the first. Forcing a small smile she greeted the ones there. "Hello Abe, Leo" Her usual social bubbly self was more calm and her green eyes shuffled away from both their faces.

Looking around she noticed Abe not sitting she realized he might not want to sit on the beanbags. "Would you like me to get you a chair?" She could quickly grab one from the student study area and bring it over.

Maybe he should've brought his big chair with him? Botros couldn't see any-- Oh, another colleague had joined them. He smiled at her sheepishly, "I would love that, yes. Those squishy things... I couldn't get up in a long time if I sat on them." He chuckled nervously. He didn't like how a lady was going to fetch him a chair, that was so un-gentleman-y of him. "I'll come with you." Though she'd be faster in looking for and finding a chair for him than he would.

Giving more of her normal bubbly smile, "Certainly, I even struggle getting out of them at times." So he shouldn't worry about needing a chair, though she had her eye on a very comfy looking beanbag for when it was time to sit. Yes it was a little way from where Leo would probably be, which was a good thing. She wasn't sure how his reaction to her would be and she wasn't ready to find out. Though he did smile and wave at her at the last Gobstone match.

Anyway, back to the chair, "Oh you don't have to worry about it. I'll be back in a sec." Giving him another smile she hurried over towards the student area and was back in no time. No need for him to come too, she loved to help. "Here we go, will this be alright?" If it was too short or not comfy enough they could always change that with a flick of a wand.

BOOK CLUB TIIIIIME WHOOOH. Eden skipped her way down to the library from the Tower, hoping to see lots of pretty shiny FACES ready to talk about BOOKS. Would every Ravenclaw be there?! She sure HOPED so! Plus Professor Kitredge--

She slipped into the library--and saw. THREE professors. Was she the first student here? Spotting the kneazle, Eden want to let the creature sniff her hand before petting her the little bugger. She kind of..loved kneazles, yeah? "Professor Morgan--" she smiled over at her---she wasn't angry at her anymore, which was good? "And Professor Botros--" She said with a nod. She didn't take his class BUT she had heard nothing but wonderful things about him. "Nice day to talk about books--" she smiled in greeting at Kitredge as she stroked his kneazle before going to take a seat.

What a beautiful creature though--for real. Ugh. She wanted one. But she couldn't get MORE pets...

Ian headed to the library. Books were fun. Lots of fun and for much of the year, they were rather faithful companions for him. He was excited to have the chance to head over to book club, he walked in and noticed his favorite professor and the Botros. He waved excitedly at professor Morgan and in a little more subdued, but still joyful wave to Botros. He greeted the librarian, Hello Mr Kitridge. nice to see you you.

He headed to the snack table and grabbed a cinnamon roll and a cup of tea. Perfect combination before he headed over to plop down on a yellow bean bag and watch Eden pet the kneazle.

FearlessLeader19 11-08-2014 03:51 PM

Woot! Another book club meeting!

Adi always enjoyed them. Especially since there were those awesome bean bags to relax in. He stepped towards the area where the meeting was to be held. Ohh. Refreshments! Was there anything chocolatey? Adi did see cinnamon rolls, though. Great! Anything sugary was good.

"Hello, Mr Kitridge. Er, are you okay?'' The poor man was looking all tired. And looky! Professors were here too! "Hi Professors Morgan, Botros.'' Grins for the two. He smiled at the Claw girl and nodded in Ian's direction before taking up position on a bean bag.

Edward Penguin 11-08-2014 05:10 PM

Ian have Adi a head up acknowledgment of his nod. He even raised his tea cup to him.

The characteristic sound of a cane thumping on the floor alerted Leo to the arrival of his good friend and colleague Abraham Botros. Slipping his parchment back into his robes Leo beamed up. "Hello Abraham, I didn't know you were planning to attend the meeting? I have a book you might like to look after the meeting is over it’s a runes dictionary of sorts."

Leo was about to get up and help find a chair for Abe when Cassiopeia the fair and so confusing arrived with an attempt at a bubbly greeting that in his eyes only worked half-heartedly. Trying to find his voice Leo spent several seconds just staring at her in between getting up and saying something in response and staying seated and saying something in response. When the moment passed Leo murmured as he scrambled into a more upright position on the bean bag. "Hello Cassie...."

When she averted her eyes so did he. His eyes fell on his kneazle and asked "How are your pets?" It seemed a lot easier to Leo to ask then ‘how are you?’ which was wanted he really wanted to ask.

Leo was trying to decide to what to ask or say to Cassie when the arrival of the first student saved him from his awkward pause. He could give Eden a bucket full of cauldron cakes just for arriving when she did. Watching how she approached Madonna with caution letting her sniff her hand before stroking her Leo said smiling broadly "Hello Eden. I agree it's a perfect day to talk about books. Had a good year so far?"

Leo's eyes trailed over to Cassie but he didn’t get a chance to ask the question that was burning on his tongue before the next student arrived. "Hello Ian. It's nice to see you too. Have you had a good year so far?"

Leo was absent-mindedly stroking Madonna when Adi arrived. Shaking his head Leo answered with a smile. "I'm fine Adi. Thank you for asking. I've just had a lot on my mind lately." Eyes trailed to Cassie again. Averting them to Adi once more with with force he said "You’re getting really good at shooting gobstones. Have you considered a career in sports after graduation?"

Ooc: The meeting will start officially tomorrow morning at 9 am GMT +1 approximatley. Feel free to keep arriving, and have your student/staffer help themselves to the food and refreshments.

Daydreamer11 11-08-2014 07:00 PM

Jasmine arrived at the Library for the Book Club meeting with her book in hand. Looking around, she noticed that there were almost more Professors than students so far. Interesting. Spotting her Head of House in his bean bag chair, Jasmine greeted him. "Hello Mr. Kitridge", she said cheerfully. Then she acknowledged the other Professors. "Hello Professor Botros, Professor Cassie."

Jasmine plopped down in a blue bean bag chair next to her housemate. "Hey Eden. How's it going?" Seeing Adi nearby, Jasmine gave him a wave. While she waited for the meeting to begin, she idly flipped through the pages of her book. Maybe she would check out the snacks in a minute or two.

Expecto-Penguin 11-08-2014 07:13 PM

Kace heard about the Book club and decided why not and check it out. As he made his way to the club location, he noticed the professor's were here. He smiled and greeted them with, "Hello Professor Bostros and Professor Cassie." Then he noticed Kitridge the librarian was here too and he gave him a wave and was quite excited to start this meeting. "Hello Mr. Kitridge!" Kace was quite a bookworm himself and always liked learning new things. He noticed Jasmine, Ian, Adi and Eden were here. He sat down in his bean bag and noticed there was a table with cinnamon rolls and tea. He got back up and went over to the table to get some snacks.

He got a plate and filled it up with cinnamon rolls and got his cup for his tea and went back carefully to sit back down in his bean bag. Let's get this book club started!

Ian shrugged. Started off pretty bad. It's been better lately. I am excited to see what you have in store for us today. he was rather interested. Book club last year had been a challenge with the cold and with the interruptions. Maybe this year they would make it all the way through today.

Holmesian Feline 11-08-2014 08:31 PM

Book club.

Sounded interesting. And totally something he could get involved in, at least more easily than the SNAC meetings Adi had threatened to drag him to. Stepping into the library, Ben looked around for where they would be meeting amongst the quiet walls of the place, finally spotting the bean bag assembledge with not one, not two, but three staffers already there. Plus Ian and Adi and assorted others.

"Hello Mr. Kittridge," he greeted, choosing the librarian first since he was technically the leader of the group. "Good day, Professors," he added with a polite nod as he walked further in trying to determine a seat to take. With a free one near Adi it wasn't a hard choice and as he sat down, he couldn't help but think that thankfully the other hufflepuff didn't seem to be causing any drama....yet.

Weasley174 11-08-2014 09:09 PM

Angel loved books and she loved the Librarian so she was here and going to see what was happening, she went and sat down next to Benny. "Hey handsome." Angel didn't see all the Professor. "How are you handsome." Angel giggled as she sat so her head was in his lap.

Aw, she was so nice trying to make him feel better about his faulty knees. Botros smiled at her and nodded, waiting for her to get a chair for him. "Thank you."

"Thank you again, dear." She was like a daughter to him, and so he took her help better than he expected. He put the chair in the small circle of beanbags, then slowly sat down on it with an inaudible sigh of comfort. Perfect!

Now, he waved and nodded at all the kids who came in.

FearlessLeader19 11-08-2014 10:29 PM

Hey! Mr Librarian was smiling. Smiles were good. As long as they weren't covering up anything that was bothering someone. "That's great to hear,'' Adi answered. He noticed the man's eyes going in the direction of the short form of Professor Cassie and his eyebrows lifted ever so slightly. Did the Divination lady have something to do with whatever was on the man's mind? Hmmm. "Anything I can help with?'' Cos you know, Adi like being a helpful Puffer.

Ohh Gobstones. Sports? Adi smiled a bit as he shook his head. "Haven't thought much about sports, Mr Kitridge. See, I know for sure that I want to become a Hippogriff breeder.'' And doing stuff with other magical creatures as well but Hippogriffs were number one on his list.
....................

Seemed like Ian had already settled in. What? Was the Housemate toasting him? Adi tossed him a questioning look as he directed his attention to the others arriving.
....................

Adi grinned at Kace and Jasmine as they arrived. This was going to be an awesome Meeting with all these familiar faces. Speaking of familiar faces... here came Benny. No surprise there when the boy occupied the free bean bag next to him. Of course Benny's other half was right behind. Well, not exactly but she came in soon afterwards.

The Hufflepuff eyebrows really did shoot up this time around at Angel's behaviour. Right in front of Professors (one being the Deputy Head) and Mr Kitridge. They were so caught up with each other, they even failed to greet him. Suddenly he had became chopped liver. Or something.

"Will you two get a grip?'' he whispered.

Settling into his seat since it was a little weird, Ben had been about to open his mouth to greet his best friend when Angel joined them. Oh yeah, she had mentioned coming to the book club meeting herself. "Hey," he greeted to her as she came closer. The younger girl then moved to sit down beside him and nonchallantly went about laying her head down....in HIS LAP?!

Forget the calling him handsome among other students and school staff, he froze in place unsure what to say or do. Other that inwardly hope the professors and librarian didn't say or do something bad. Adi did however, the Gryffindor catching the whisper since he was in the middle of the two. Hello to you too, bestie. "Not...doing anything," he said defending himself. "Um...Angel..."

Adi rolled his eyes. "My mistake, Benny,'' he replied. "Psst, Angel. Sit up.'' Did she want to get herself and Benny as well into trouble? He wasn't being bossy or anything. Just looking out for them.

He kept glancing at the two Professors and Mr Kitridge to see of they had noticed anything but nope, it didn't seem so. Or if they did, they didn't speak of it. Yet. If Angel sat properly then the duo just would avoid trouble.

Weasley174 11-08-2014 11:11 PM

Benny and Adi.

Angel looked around and blushed, seriously why hadn't she seen the Professors in the room. "Oh sorry Adi." Angel smiled as she sat up on her own chair... still near Benny. "How are you?" Angel asked Adi might as well see if his pants were still in knot.

Angel smiled as she looked at Benny. "Sorry about that." Angel whispered to him, she had no idea what had made her want to do that and she was a bit upset with herself and a bit worried the Professors might say something to her, maybe she should have looked around.

Jessiqua 11-09-2014 12:00 AM

Zhenya made her way to the book club meeting. She quite liked books, and she liked being in the library. In fact, she missed it greatly. Her left hand, fingers still slightly black from the… incident, were covered in gloves. Gloves that Zhenya had vowed to always wear, protecting people from seeing her injuries. She vaguely remembered the librarian, but was so timid these days that she almost took one look at the room of people, including other professors, and ran straight out, back to her bedroom, and buried herself in her covers. No, she mustn't. She slowly, very slowly, made her way in amongst the crowd and walked towards the librarian.
"Er… h-hello Professor, er, I mean Mr Kitridge. H-how are you, sir?"
She felt her face start to prickle with warmth. Yes, she was actually talking to someone. She would have to try and remember to pat herself on the back afterwards, rather than dissect every moment of the conversation. She self consciously put her gloved hand in her pocket, not wanting anyone to see it, or ask any questions.

Ian saw the look Adi gave him. just letting you know it's good to see you. You're a fine fellow. he didn't want to start nothing. Just giving honor to a good guy. He tried to think if it could be misinterpreted as Ian doing something improper, but being the son of a fisherman, Ian hadn't been given much teaching in the way of etiquette.

Book club, book club, book cluuuuuuuuuub. Soph hummed a cheery tune the whole way to the library with a book under her arm, beyond elated to finally have a club meeting. She wondered what took Kitridge so long, really, but she sort of figured he had negative feelings associated with the club after what happened at their LAST meeting, so...

She assumed she understood correctly.

And thus she was excited he had gotten past his fear of book club and was holding a meeting today - better late in the term than never to have their first meeting, eh? - and as she neared the meeting area, she first noticed a Gryffindor girl laying her head in a Gryffindor boy's lap. Did... the professors see that? Merlin. Even she knew better than to be that close to Tobes in a setting like this, especially around MULTIPLE professors.

Hi, multiple professors. Soph gave them all a little wave and a smile upon catching their gazes. "Hello professors." Kitridge wasn't really a professor, but he was as good as one, wasn't he? "Hope you're well," she greeted before going bug-eyed at the sight of CINNAMON ROLLS. Without giving it further thought, Soph absolutely took the biggest cinnamon roll there with a napkin and plopped down in the closest empty bean bag to her Head of House, her book falling into her lap.

Mmmmmm. Gooey and cinnamony and sweet and wonderful. "'ese are rully 'ood," she offered up to Kitridge with a bright smile, though she was unsure of just WHO had brought them. Didn't really matter, but she wanted the recipe, for sure.

Govoni 11-09-2014 02:07 AM

This will be fun. XD

Gabriel had been back and forth with himself about attending the bookclub meeting....but his Head of House was holding it....and, well, books. Gabe loved to read....and though it wasn't anything close to his love and devotion for science, it seemed dumb not to go. Even if there weren't any pumpkin rolls for him to snack on.

That was okay. His pockets were bulging with pumpkin pasties, anyway.

Foregoing a snack, Gabe claimed a bean bag near Mr. Kit ridge....waving at Adi and Benny.

"Sir." The greeting was a quite one.........and the others, Botros and Morgan......Well, Gabe didn't know what or how to feel about them at the current moment. So, wide eyed stares for them.

He said her name.. Cassie glanced up at him, but frowned only for a moment. He wasn't looking at her. OHMYGOSH, he was really upset, she had really been mean to him and he couldn't even look at her. She felt so horrible. Her green eyes looked down at his Kneazle and smiled, "This little one is going to get lost in the restricted section later, you might want to check on her there when you can't find her." She glanced back up at him even though he wasn't looking at her. "My pets?" That was an interesting question and one she assumed he only asked to be nice, it was very certain he was trying to just force small talk. "Aries and Gemini are wonderful actually." Swinging her kitty purse off her shoulder she looked down to the snoozing babies. She never went anywhere without them.

Giving another child a smile and wave, "Hello Jasmine, hope you are doing well." Lovely students were being so nice.

Then he noticed Kitridge the librarian was here too and he gave him a wave and was quite excited to start this meeting.

"Hello Kace, how are you doing?" Giving the Hufflepuff a nice smile and wave.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world. You do know I'm fond of books, and your book club meetings." He gave him his usual, gentle, wrinkly smile.

"Thank you again, dear." She was like a daughter to him, and so he took her help better than he expected. He put the chair in the small circle of beanbags, then slowly sat down on it with an inaudible sigh of comfort. Perfect!

Now, he waved and nodded at all the kids who came in.

"You are very welcome, I'm soooo glad I could help." Sitting down in her beanbag she looked back up at the man. "Abe, can I ask you something." She wasn't sure she should even bring it up, but glancing back at Leo, she had to know. "The students have been filling me in on parts of the last few weeks that I'm missing and they've said I had a run in with you and Leo, is.. is that true?" She might have slightly wibbled towards the end.

SPOILER!!: Sophie and Gabe

Her attention moved to yet another group of student that had come in, "Hello Sophie, how are you?" Book clubs were just sooo fun! Then seeing Gabe give a wave she returned it with a wave and a big smile.

SPOILER!!: Benny and Angel

Her eyes moved to someone else that had come in and gave him a very happy smile and wave, "Hello Benny." Her brow raised as she watched Angel enter the room and do something she would never think a second year would even know how to do. Noticing Adi getting her to sit up she nodded at the boy and gave the other two a little look of please don't do that again. Though this was Leo's meeting so he could say more if he wanted.

Felixir 11-09-2014 02:47 AM

Toby had never really been all that into reading for fun. Could never sit still and concentrate long enough, see? And then, this past year, with every single second of his free time spent studying for his OWLs, reading for leisure wasn't something that he'd made a lot of time for. Except for ONE book, and that was the one he'd brought along today. Well-worn and slightly battered and very obviously read like a kajillion times, Tobias had bought along Quidditch Through the Ages.

He was still... hesitant about the library. Hadn't set foot in here since the last little... traumatic incident. But the noticeboard had mentioned bringing along a smile to the book club, and Toby was quite happy to go to where the smiles were.

And so here he was, flopping straight into a blue beanbag, instantly comfy, and looking around at who else had turned up. Wait... was that food? Well... Toby was settled now, nestled quite comfortably in the huge beanbag and not willing to get up again. He'd pick up something later.

People got little smiles in greeting though, including all the professors, and Soph, but Toby didn't seem as able as he usually was to really put much exuberance into anything. No bouncing, thank Merlin. And so he half-sat, half-lay in his beanbag, quite content to just... exist there. Though he did say a collective, "Hi," to the room at large.

WAIT, HAD THE MEETING STARTED YET?!

Noooooo!! He was here! He was coming!!! Don't start yet guys he was-- Oh. They weren't really doing book cluby things yet now were they? HEh. Zander totally didn't run all the way over here. PFT. That'd be ridiculous. The heavy breathing was just from, erm, things that didn't involve running all the way to the library because that's not what he was doing. And um, yeah.

Why were there so many Professors here?

O___________O

Sweeping his now-messy hair out of his face, the Gryffindor approached each Professor? individually to say hellos. First was to Kitridge the leader of the whole shabang. "Hi Mr. Kitridge, is that your kneazle?!" Granted he was more of a crup person, but kneazles were pretty freaking amazing too!!! Then he spotted Professor Botros, to whom he gave a polite a wave. And lastly Professor Morgan who he felt obligated to say something too. Every time he saw her it was like BOOM GUILT. "Hi Professor, I hope you're having a good day," ahem.

And then, he looked around to find a place to sit and there were quite a few familiar faces. He smiled at Sophie and then also at AJ's crew before finding a seat near a newer friend, Eden "His kneazle is really cute, huh?" he smiled as he sat down slowly.

Turning to Ian he smiled warmly. "I’m glad to hear it. If you need someone to talk to then you know where my office is." It couldn't hurt to offer even if Ian seemed happy and excited. "There is tea and juice and cinnamon rolls if you want something to munch on before the meeting starts."

Gazing around the bean bag circle and at the food and drink table Leo shook his head."No, everything is set Adi but thank you for offering." Fina had made a wise choice in giving him a prefect badge. Eyes widening slightly in surprise Leo beamed. "You want to become a hippogriff breeder? That's an interesting field of work. Creatures are fun to work with. Has Professor Thompson's classes inspired you to want to take up that field after graduation?" If that was the case then Javy must be doing something right when he taught the student about creatures.

H-how are you, sir?

The next girl to arrive Leo hadn't seen much of lately but he still remembered her name. "Hello Zhenya. I'm wonderful thank you for asking. It's a lovely day to talk about books don’t you agree?" Cocking his head slightly to the side he wondered. "Is everything all right dear?"

Ooc: The meeting has officially started. Feel free to answer either or both of Leo's questions.;)

Kolyander 11-09-2014 11:48 AM

Slipping into the room just moments before the Book Club Meeting was about to start the small first year silently settled herself into an empty seat. It wasn't that she had intended on getting there just in the nick of time really. It was more of a she wasn't sure if she'd be coming at all. She did quite a lot of reading outside of classes actually but no one really knew that.

So shifting around in her seat until she was comfortable she'd given everyone a small but friendly greeting, her book laying on her lap. Was she really the only first year here? It seemed that way. Chewing on her bottom lip she glanced around wondering if this had been a good idea or a bad one to show up. So far it didn't seem like neither they hadn't really gotten into anything just yet.

Keeping her mouth shut for now she listened to what some of the others had read. Maybe it would be good and she could add another book to the list of books she'd like to read.

SlytherinSistah 11-09-2014 12:52 PM

"Protogonists and the portrayal of 'good guys' in literature interests me, Mr. Kitridge. Can we talk about that?" Came the late in coming Cutty's before he'd fully entered the room. Where the hell had Cutty been all year? Present, but unaccounted for. Invisible to the naked eye, perhaps. He wasn't at this moment as he entered the old haunt after Adair and took a seat near the brick-stupid and unabashedly handsome Gryffindor boy, letting him sandwich between he and Eden McGee. He looked around at the room at large. "I'm not too late, am I? Ooh, are those cinnamon rolls?" Cutty was not a sweets person due to the occupational hazard of having sold them for 4 years now, but he knew that their presence in the library was a rarity and wondered why. What was the occasion?

Kitridge and his kneazle perfectly reminded Cutty of the Muggle villain from the books he was carrying. No Cambridge, though. No Hirase. He supposed that meant that Mr. Kitridge wouldn't be struggling to hold it together this meeting in the case of the latter. And Professors Morgan and Botros had decided to join as well. What a delight! And Sophie Brown and her boy-toy too. Heh. She didn't like him and he was sort of oblivious as to why.

FearlessLeader19 11-09-2014 02:46 PM

Adi nodded. Everything did look set. Including those delicious looking Cinnamon rolls...yummy sugar. Hehe. "Actually, my er, like for the creatures started when I first came to Diagon Alley. Took a ride on a Hippogriff carousel. But Professor Thompson and his classes did make me realise that Creatures had my full attention.'' So yes, thank you, Professor Thompson!
............................

Adi seemed to be doing quite a bit of eyebrow raising. This time Ian got one. He was quite tempted to say, ''Thank you, I know I'm awesome'' but he decided not to. Instead he said, "Er, thanks.'' Was Ian sucking up? Hmmm.

Oh, hey Gabe! Adi returned the wave as he smiled in the Claw's direction. Was he slowly coming out of his shyness?
.............................

"I'm good, Angel, now that you aren't trying to get Benny into trouble.'' Cue the smile. Good. One thing settled here.
.............................

So, which book had Adi brought along? The Invisible Man. It was one of the coolest books he had read. The whole thing with the man being invisible really fascinated him. He hadn't even needed an Invisibility Cloak.

The Hufflepuff raised his hand. "I would recommend The Invisible Man by H.G Wells,'' he said.

Zhenya was glad the librarian greeted her, although why did she not realise he would? A nice day to talk about books? Aren't they all good? "Yes, it's a splendid day to talk about books. It always is," she added happily, offering a small smile. She was startled by his next question. Was everything okay? She swallowed hard. "Erm... Erm... I... Y-yes I think so," she said rather nervously. She never knew how to answer that question, and she didn't want to make anyone feel awkward about her spilling her crazy problems. So she embraced her inner strength and tried to smile reassuringly.

Oh! The book! Zhenya reached into her bag and took out a battered copy of 99 ways to charm a mermaid. she raised her hand, unaware if those mannerisms were required for a book club. "This book, 99 ways to charm a mermaids, is a book I've been reading. I'm only half way through but it's about a little mer-village where the head merman needs to marry off his seven daughters before the month is out, or he must hand down his position to someone else. It's very interesting, there's a lot of drama surrounding the other mer-people and who wants to claim his position if he is unable to fulfil his task. There are also a lot of mer-men who have volunteered but it turned out their families were plotting to take over once they were married into the family." She had inherited it from her grandparents on her father's side, thankfully it was in English.

Zander nodded to confirm his name, realizing that maybe he should take more time to get to know some of the other Hogwarts staff... He really only knew a few of his Professors quite well and there were definitely some that he knew a whole lot better than others. Most of them it wasn't really by choice, but he did go out of his way to talk to a few. Anyways, back to the kneazle talk because the kneazle made this meeting totally worth it. Even though the Gryffindor didn't take a particular interest in books. Zander shook his head in disappointment in response to the question before lifting his head up to respond, "No... But I'm going to get a cruppy over the summer! I've been saving up," grrrriiinnn. That was the plan-- well it was also the plan for last summer, but erm... Yeah. It was really happening this time.

So had it been any other time, Zander would not have had a book in mind. Except, this time he did. And it was all thanks to Professor Flamsteed actually. Weird. But the Gryffindor had started working on the book a little while ago and he was slowly making his way through the first few chapters, but already the story was very meaningful-- especially because of everything that was said outside the Astronomy Professor's office. So when the question was asked, the lion reached into his bag and pulled out a big ol' book. With a small smile on his face, he lifted both his hand and the book in the air.

And that's when he realized Cutty had come towards him-- and Eden-- to take a seat. "From Mandrake to Mimbulus Mimbletonia: The Neville Longbottom Story by Abigail Pittiman," He even knew the whole entire title AND the author. That was a rare sighting. Once he lowered the book, he stole a glance over at Cutty to make sure the boy wasn't laughing at him again. Which, by the way, he didn't even understand the laughing in the first place because Neville was a hero!! Not someone laughable. Ahem. Anyways.

Weasley174 11-09-2014 07:46 PM

Angel looked at the Librarian and smiled, how come she hadn't seen that he was here before after all the Librarian was awesome. "I read a muggle book called The Famous Five." Angel had heard that there was a series of books. "It's about two girl, two boys and a dog called Timmy and they do a bit of detective work." Angel gave the Librarian her sorry face for what she had done when she came in.

Sophie smiled an especially broad, cinnamon-y smile at the Divination professor and took a moment to swallow the cinnamon roll before responding brightly, "Good, thanks, professor. I always look forward to these meetings." Which meant she was ESPECIALLY looking forward to this one since it was the only one of the term. It had been a long time coming, hadn't it?

She sort of wished they'd have these meetings more often, though, so she could enjoy Kitridge's good food and squishy bean bag chairs more than just once a year.

Her Head of House's big grin hadn't escaped her, though, and soon enough Soph had turned her attention to the man sitting near her, quite cheerfully proceeding to devour more of the cinnamon roll as he spoke. After speaking through a mouthful to give him her verdict, she had enough self-control to swallow this time before responding to him again, "M'lovely, too, thanks. S'nice to have a meeting again. Just... please don't, y'know, go wandering back off to the Forbidden Forest again after this one, okay?" Her tone was light and teasing to match the cheeky sort of smile on her face. "We kinda like having you around being safe and healthy and all." That was her way of telling him she was worried about him and cared about his well-being, and she assumed he'd pick up on that well enough without her having to come right out and say so.

I take this as a good sign that you all have been reading outside of your class work. That's really good. Reading is a big part of accumulating knowledge that you might need or find useful to have acquired when you least expect it." Wink.

Retaking his seat on his bean bag Leo gazed around expectantly at the students mostly but Cassie and Abraham could of course chime in too as he asked. "So, has anyone read a book they'd like to recommend others to read? Or read something they'd like to bring up and talk about?"

Sophie was glad to see that Tobes had made the meeting and he got a big smile, though it was a bit surprising, honestly - he had absolutely been one who chose the creatures meeting over the book club one last term, and she couldn't recall him attending a book club meeting prior... actually, she couldn't even remember him reading a book for pleasure. He knew a whole lot, certainly, and was sometimes a little surprisingly like a walking textbook full of knowledge and insight, but... she was interested in seeing what book he HAD brought. Would his choice astound her?

Kitridge was starting the meeting, though, and Soph wished she had grabbed another cinnamon roll before it was too late. She was tempted to summon one over to her, but she thought that would be disruptive, too, so... there she sat, her cinnamon roll all eaten and wishing she had another. She briefly considered offering up some insight on the book she brought - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, sent to her by Caterina Moretti earlier in the term - but she was too distractedly longing for another cinnamon roll.

Would someone see her staring and pass her the plate? She could only be so lucky.

As Kace was getting prepared for the meeting, he smiled and nodded towards the professor's greeting. Oooh he was supposed to bring a book? Woops well actually let's see if he had one in his backpack. He usually did incase he got bored waiting for his classes to start. Once he was done digging through his backpack he actually found a book. Aahh success! He smiled and wondered what he had.

He flipped it over and noticed it was Quidditch Through the Ages. He snorted and thought it was soo obvious. "Erm Professor I brought Quidditch through the Ages actually.." he held out his book. Being the quidditch nerd he was he had no shame showing his book. "But I did read a muggle book during the christmas vacation called Poison Princess and I thought it was pretty cool.." he grinned.

Felixir 11-09-2014 09:19 PM

Toby smiled over at Mr. Kitridge at his greeting and waved in return, before nodding.

"Sure did, sir," the Hufflepuff replied, holding his Quidditch book up in the air. He now figured that the notice had probably been talking about novels or stories or autobiographies or whatever. But Tobias still didn't regret bringing Quidditch Through the Ages along. He loved it, and, of course, he'd read it. And oh hey, Kace had brought the same book! That was pretty funny, being that they shared a dormitory and all. Fifth year Hufflepuff boys were on some sort of wavelength or something.

They were starting, and jumping right into it. Toby could tell already that this was going to be one of those meetings that he wouldn't have a whole lot of input in, but that didn't matter so much to him. It would just be neat to be able to sit and listen to what everyone else thought, and find out what they enjoyed, what made them happy.

Sooooooooo... he said nothing. For now at least, just turning his head to look at anyone else who spoke. It wasn't like Toby had NEVER read other books, though, it was more that a lot of the topics he pursued were more niche market sort of things.

Bazinga 11-10-2014 01:11 AM

Her fidgeting was awful while she was near Leo and she tried to distract herself with the Kneazle. Glancing back up at him, he did know about her animal talent didn't he? She just nodded, "Well that's good that she knows the library. I'd hate to see her really lost." Green eyes jumped to his face when she heard his question. "Oh, well.. umm yeah, I mean I don't have anywhere to go, I.. well I mean. Yes Mr. Kitridge after the book club meeting is fine." Her cheeks red she moved to her seat, that was just awful and she knew what it was about. She had to. He was going to be professional here, but then tell her how upset he was at her actions later. She sighed thinking about what the girls had told her. That just had to be it.

Sitting she tried to focus on his voice as he started the meeting. Listening to the others talk about their books she started getting interested until she notice Cutty walk in late. Well at least he had something to talk about. Hmm all such interesting books, some which she hadn't heard of, but would love to check out. Though Kace made her wince a bit, Princess books. She had enough of the princess things.

Once the students were done she sat a little straighter, "Well do to some things that students have told me recently I wanted to do a little research so I had brought muggle stories 101, it goes through different muggle children stories especially fairy tale ones." Though she really didn't want to speak about the one she was researching, the more she read the worse she was feeling.

Thankfully he had remembered to bring a book to the meeting, having not been to many if not any at all of the previous meetings because of conflicts with other things. A bleak reminder of the drama that had come out of the last time meetings of any sort had happened in the library. The fourth year fought off a shiver, instead listening to the suggestion of others before finally speaking up for his own choice when it was his turn. No way around it.

"I brought an older book," he said, having noticed the date of the first publication when it had first been bought. Something he had found on a trip with his parents. "Its called Eragon." Perfect book for him though...plenty of talk of dragons with the pages.

"Hello Jasmine!" Leo greeted cheerfully as one of his house prefects walked in. "How are you? How is the newt revision going?" he was of course referring to her big newt exams at the of the year.

When her Head of House asked how she was, Jasmine responded. "I'm doing just fine sir" Then he spoke of the forbidden topic. Sigh. "NEWTs? Ohhhh things are coming along. I'm just trying to stay on top of my studying." The truth was, she had barely had time to read a for fun book because of her studying. Jasmine supposed that bringing a text book to a Book Club meeting would not be cool. Not that she hadn't considered it mind you.

Then the meeting started and some students were sharing information about their books. Jasmine started to raise her hand, but then she had second thoughts. Of course the point of a book club was to discuss your book. For some reason though, she didn't feel quite ready to share......yet.

Ab didn't bring any books with him, to be honest. Instead, he listened to what the children were reading these days, he'd done quite a lot of reading in his past seventy years, barely anything could interest him anymore.

Until Cassie brought up muggle stories, the fairy tale-y kind especially. His interest spiked at the mention of it, and he raised his hand to add. "I do think I'm familiar with those stories, professor Morgan, and some of those stories are really fun, humorous and teach a socially accepted moral from the Muggle world." He liked them. And... yes, no need to point out the elephant in the room, right? That they'd been seeing some fairy-tale related things going on around the castle, giant beanstalks, mistresses of evil and whatnot...

Ooh, a good question. Ab turned to Leo to hear about this, the old professor never managed a library as big and thorough as Hogwarts library, Leo must know how the restricted section worked.

Leo watched silently as Cutty Mordaunt made his entrance to the gathering albeit a little late. His lateness was weighed up by the fact that he jumped into the meeting straight away and offered up a good discussion topic. Turning his gaze to the snake boy Leo said "It's good that you wanted to join us Cutty. You brought up an interesting topic for discussion that we will need to discuss and immerse ourselves in at another meeting. I want to bring you examples from literature that will aid the discussion." Pulling up his parchment he wrote down Cuttyäs idea on the back. It'd make for a potentially good discussion next year.

The Hufflepuff raised his hand. "I would recommend The Invisible Man by H.G Wells,'' he said.

"The Invisible Man," Leo echoed thoughtfully. "Can you tell us something about the book Adi? Why do you recommend it?" It sounded like a book written by a muggle author or at the least someone that Leo wasn’t accustomed with.

Switching his gaze from Adi to Zhenya he smiled warmly. "I'm glad to hear that dear. If you ever need an adult to talk to my office door is always open." Because Leo had a feeling that there was more to the story than what Zhenya was willing to bring up in front of everyone. It was not the right time or place but Leo was just a teeny tiny bit curious as to why the snakette wore gloves inside. The library was usually a warm place if you weren’t visiting the restricted section.

******
Leo listened silently but attentively as Zhenya shared with everyone what book she had chosen and what it was about. When she finished Leo asked. "Who wrote '99 ways to charm a mermaid'? It sounds like an interesting book that I might need to order for the library."

Clearing his throat Leo did just that. “Everyone, Ian brought up a really good question. He asked 'how books end up in the restricted section and how they might cause problems'." He paused to gather his thoughts briefly before he continued. "Most books that come to the library I order from companies that sell or make books. Or someone donates them to us like many of your parents did after that fire burned up parts of the library and many books."

"For a book to end up on the shelves in the Restricted Section they have to need special handling, have a curse placed upon them or just have advanced knowledge in them that require you to have permission to read. Books in the Restricted Section have been placed there by staff members or the librarians that have proceeded me in the position since Hogwarts came into existence they don’t just show up out of the blue. "Does anyone else have a book they'd like to recommend?” Leo asked. Taking another mouthful of juice he let his eyes wander over the assembled students and staff.

Angel then suddenly thought of something. "In my primary school there were books only year five and six could read, is that like the restricted section in muggle places?" Angel had been confused about why they weren't all allowed to read every book around.

She had THE coolest Head of House, did everyone know? She loved Flamsteed and all, but Kitridge was where it was at. Sophie grinned huge and nodded her approval at the man's words, "Good. Thanks." That was a nice promise of him to make, and it allowed her to rest easy.

...Until he continued along, and Soph frowned, despite the man's hug. She didn't want him to have to face dangerous situations, though - he was a librarian, and she wasn't sure that having to be the hero should have been in his job description. That sounded more like a job for Romanos or Truebridge. She appreciated his bravery, though, and finally nodded when he was finished. "Okay." She was still a little saddened over the thought of something really serious happening to him again, but... he promised again to try to be safe and look out for himself, so... Soph would have to take his word for it.

The conversation about the Restricted Section was interesting enough, but Soph still found her attention wandering back to the cinnamon rolls, and to Tobes, and occasionally she eyed Cutty out of pure distrust in him. He was the worst human being alive, did he know? But then it seemed like Kitridge was giving his last call for book recommendations, and Soph turned her gaze down to the book in her lap. Did she really want to recommend it? Or... could she recommend something else?

Maybe she would. Casually, she slipped her copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory back into her bag and raised a hand to offer up a suggestion. She could give some valuable input to the meeting, surely, and maybe even make Ira Banner shed a tear at some point in his life if she told him she recommended his book at a book club meeting. Heh.

"The Wandmaker at Ollivander's, Ira Banner, wrote a book called... The Will, The Word, and the Wand: A Compendium of British Wandlore. S'kinda a mouthful, but it's essentially a really general book about wands and wandlore, and it's not SUPER technical, like a textbook or anything - it's more for the common witch or wizard who wants to learn a bit more about wands, which EVERYONE should want to do, really, because wands are a huge part of our every day life, y'know?" Except maybe for Tobes, who got a grin as the words crossed her lips. Him and his Muggle ways of doing things.

"It covers the ins and outs of how our wands choose us and how to best harness our wands' powers by looking into like how the cores and woods interact and the properties of them and stuff. I mean... haven't you ever wondered why your wand is best for you? What makes it so uniquely yours?" She sure had, obviously, and she was so fascinated by the whole thing that she was choosing that career path for herself. "So... if y'wanna learn how to get the most outta your spellwork and better understand how it works, s'definitely a good book to read. Ira Banner's a genius."

Totally shameless.

FearlessLeader19 11-11-2014 11:28 PM

Yep, Adi could tell them all something about the book. He'd try to make it as brief as possible. He didn't like being in the spotlight for too long.

"It's about a man named Griffin who arrives at a village totally covered up. He's wearing gloves, hat and long sleeved clothing and his face is covered in bandages. Griffin did an experiment on a cat then on himself making both him and the cat invisible. That's why he went to the village- to work on a cure for the invisibility.'' Pause. So why would Adi recommend the book?

"I would recommend the book because it is very entertaining, action packed but most of all, it gets your curiosity going. I think from a wizard's point of view, it would be a rather interesting question about if muggles could actually make themselves invisible in the future.''
Of course anything's possible.

Oh after getting a chair for Abe she noticed that there were more book clubers coming in. "Hellllllo Eden, how are you today?" She hoped the girl was well and that they had everything put behind them now. She felt really bad for the students that were upset the most over this queen things. Her and Penelope seemed to have taken it the hardest.

Eden waved at Jasmine and gave her prefect a smile. She was so niiiice. Eden did like Jasmine a lot. And then Professor Morgan was greeting her, and Eden waved at her as well. They had...made up. kind of. Mostly. Eden was still a LITTTTTLE apprehensive--but she was hopeful she'd get over this eventually. And THEEEEN

ZAAAAANDER!

Eden wiggled to make room for him and grinned. "Heeeey--" she said, and she nodded. "Very. I wanna' scoop him up and huug him." She said, smiling away. And then her NEWEST friend Cutty--came and SQUISHED himself next to her.

"Merlin--anything to sit next to me, eh, Cutty?" she teased, raising an eyebrow at the very LATE Mordaunt. "Seriously--" he smelled like candy so Eden didn't much MIND sitting so close to the boy. And remembering their...last meeting together her blushing in no time--but she tried her best to hide this fact with food--stuffing her face with some. Yep. That was always a good thing to do in awkward situations. Eat.

"Hello Kace!" Leo greeted with a wave and a flashed smile.

"Hello Benjamin." Leo greeted as the lion boy found his way over to the gathering to find a seat near Adi. "Feel free to help yourself to a cinnamon roll or something to drink before the meeting starts." He suggested with a gesture to the food and beverage table.

Gaze shifting to Botros he responded simply. "It means a lot that you are here." And that came from Leo's heart. He meant it too. Abe was an important friend and colleague.

It was hard not to beam broadly when Sophie Brown arrived and chose to plop herself down on the empty bean bag nearest him instead of grabbing the one near her boyfriend Toby. "Hello Sophie." Stroking Madonna between the ears Leo responded with smile. "I'm lovely thank you. How are you?"

Watching Sophie munch on one of the cinnamon rolls he secretly held his breath waiting for her verdict. When she gave them a thumbs up literally Leo blushed."Thank you, I actually baked them this morning just for the meeting. I wanted to treat you all with something nice."

SPOILER!!: Zhenya

The next girl to arrive Leo hadn't seen much of lately but he still remembered her name. "Hello Zhenya. I'm wonderful thank you for asking. It's a lovely day to talk about books don’t you agree?" Cocking his head slightly to the side he wondered. "Is everything all right dear?"

Motioning for the senior eagle to find himself a bean bag Leo said "Hello Gabriel." Not being able to not catch the wide-eyed stares Gabriel sent off in the direction of Cassie and Abraham he asked worriedly. "Is everything all right Gabe?" As in did he need to seek him out after the meeting in the Ravenclaw Tower?

Eyes trailing over to Cassie as she responded to him Leo murmured with an affectionate glance down at his kneazle that had now climbed up into his lap. "Madonna knows her way around the library better than I do sometimes. She rarely ventures into the restricted section unless of course she thinks there are rats or something in there," like students who shouldn’t be in there without permission. "Wonderful." Leo echoed with a glance at the kitty purse before he raised his gaze finally to Cassie’s eyes. "Can we talk after the book club meeting is over?" And hopefully clear the air between them?

The next student to arrive was Toby. Waving at the senior Hufflepuff student Leo called over. "Hello Toby, I’m glad you could come. Did you remember to bring a book?" He vaguely remembered running into Toby in the study area many days ago where he they had chatted about books and his girlfriend Sophie.

"Hello Zander right?" Leo greeted the lion with the messy hair that had just walked over to the gather. Nodding he confirmed. "Yes, Madonna is my kneazle." he confirmed with an affectionate stroke of the feline between the ears. "Do you have any pets?"

**********
When Leo estimated that a good group of student's and staffers had arrived he scrambled to his feet ignoring the look he got from his kneazle to address everyone assembled with a warm smile pursing his lips. "Welcome everyone to this terms first and only book club meeting. I see that most of you have remembered to bring along a book.

Ooc: The meeting has officially started. Feel free to answer either or both of Leo's questions.;)

"The Invisible Man," Leo echoed thoughtfully. "Can you tell us something about the book Adi? Why do you recommend it?" It sounded like a book written by a muggle author or at the least someone that Leo wasn’t accustomed with.

Eyes moving from Zhenya to Zander Leo couldn't help but grin. "That's a good book. Do you like herbology then?" Maybe Zander was a budding botanist in the making or plant expert even.

Turning to Angel he noted with satisfaction that she had decided to join in the discussion instead of misbehaving and even seemed a bit ashamed of her actions as she should be. "'The Famous Five' sounds like an interesting detective story. Do you remember who wrote the book Angel? I'm always looking for new muggle books to put up on the shelves,"[/b] Even if Leo ordered in mostly books written by magical authors to the library.

Turning to Sophie with a warm beam Leo responded almost crossing his heart. "I promise dear. I have no plans to wander off to the forbidden forest after our meeting." Or on any day for that matter unless the situation required him to. The forest was Archie’s domain.

Feeling his heart warm up by Sophie’s statement Leo reached over and gave her a quick hug. "I like having me safe and healthy too. But you know sometimes things happen that I have to deal with that might be dangerous that’s just a way of life but I can though promise you to be cautious and to protect myself."

"Quidditch through the ages is always a good read Kace." Leo commented with a smile to the badger youth. "Do you want to become a professional quidditch player when you leave school?" Many boys and girls did but not everyone. Some just liked to watched the sport and play it occasionally with friends.

Shifting his gaze to Cassie again Leo said simply. "Great, we can meet in the observatory before dinner then?" He wasn’t angry at her. He just wanted them to clear the air and hopefully begin anew. He really liked her and this oddness between was driving him nuts.

*****

"What things have the student’s told you?" Leo wondered interest peeked. "And more importantly why did it urge you to research muggle fairytale stories?" Was something alarming going on in the castle that he wasn’t aware of? In the library he usually picked up rumours and information but to what Cassie was referring he was oblivious. He needed more information.

"Eragon, hmm," Leo echoed. "That title sounds familiar. Is it an adventure and fantasy novel about a boy that finds a dragon egg that later hatches and gives him a dragon for companion?" It was possible that he had mixed it up with another story. It wasn’t uncommon.

"That’s good to hear Jasmine. If you need to borrow some old NEWT exams stop by the Front Desk when you have a minute I’ll help you out." Leo offered. He had no doubt that Jasmine as the proud eagle she was had things under control but practicing and seeing old exams had proved in the past to be fruitful for NEWT and OWL exam takers.

Lastly Leo turned his attention to Ian once more. Nodding he said excitedly. "Good question Ian. I don’t think we’ve ever discussed this in a meeting before. If this was a lesson I’d given you house points. I’ll share the answer to your question with both you and the whole assembled group because I think this is something they should know too."

**************

Someone has to have put the books on the shelves."

After a short stop to take a mouthful of juice from a glass Leo fetched with the use of his wand he finished. "What potential damage a book from the restricted section can cause if it was as Ian put it 'released' depends on the book and its nature. It's hard for me to guess unless I get an example."

"Does anyone else have a book they'd like to recommend?” Leo asked. Taking another mouthful of juice he let his eyes wander over the assembled students and staff.

Lots of book discussin' had happened. WOW. Eden was so impressed by everyone. She went to school with some SMAAAART people--most especially CUTTY. His way of thinking was so...Eden just stared at him a bit as he spoke and had to shake her head out of it a bit before clearing her throat at the second time Kitredge asked if they anything to share.

"I recently read a a series about Peter Pan. Called...Peter and the Starcatchers." She said meekly. "Very good--geared towards younger kids but also very complex in plot--I appreciated the changes they made to the original story without losing too much of what the story is supposed to portray." She said with a nod, feeling satisfied for talking in such a big group that wasn't class and not about class-y things. Sinking back down she sighed in relief and smiled...

Kace smiled and was glad he had a book that the librarian knew and liked. He heard Kitridge's question and he couldn't help but smile. "Yeahh I do, I actually had an internship at Quality Quidditch Supplies this summer. So I hope to work up to that.." he grinned. Felixir 11-12-2014 02:15 AM

There was lots of books being mentioned right now, and lots of talking about those books, and all kinds of suggestions, and Toby found himself just sort of... staring around. Amazing, really. Everyone in this room probably read for fun, and did so often. That astounded and impressed Toby, it really did. He was forever in awe of those who could just... just read for fun, all the time. Even from what Toby had heard of so far in this room, it was evident that all that reading gave people all that extra knowledge. Made them all super smart.

He looked down at his copy of Quidditch Through the Ages again, before hugging it to his chest. There was no point mentioning it now, not now that Kace had already brought it up. That was interesting, though, hearing about how Kace was aiming to get into professional Quidditch after school too. Tobias filed that little piece of information away later, maybe it would be something for them to talk about.

Right now though? Toby remained quiet. He tried no to let on, but he was attempting to ignore some definite feelings of inadequacy right now, surrounded by well-read, clever people.

That talk of books from the restricted section from Kitridge caught Toby's attention though, and he kind of tuned out for a second while something registered. The librarian had said that books couldn't just appear on the shelves?

"There was a vanishing book," the Hufflepuff suddenly blurted out, as soon as he thought of it. Not exactly on topic with what the librarian had asked but still pertaining to that other topic. "In Div-" ahem "-in class. It glowed and then this girl read it and then apparently it just vanished. And there was a glowing book in our common room, but I didn't get to read it." And now that he thought about it, given the state of Professor Morgan when she'd brought it into the classroom, maybe that was a good thing. And hadn't that girl then been the next person to catch The Bug? Hmm. HMMMM.

He looked at Kitridge again, curious. "Maybe if books can vanish they can just appear too?" Was this too far off topic? "Are there any vanishing books in the library, sir? Or glowing ones?" Just, y'know, curious. If anyone would know, it would be Mr. Kitridge.

Holmesian Feline 11-12-2014 02:21 AM

Adi, Kitteridge and Tobias

The Invisible Man.

That sounded like an interesting book, Benny listening to it being mentioned by Adi beside him. Then there was others that were familiar, like Quidditch Through the Ages, a title that quite a few had brought it seemed. And something about herbology involving Longbottom, a name from the history books. When his own book was reacted to, the fourth year was taken back as he hadn't expected it to be recognized.

"Actually yes....it is," he confirmed looking curiously at the librarian. "Have you read it?" the Gryffindor asked, wondering if the man had or had heard mention of it in one form or another. Was there possibly even a copy of the book in the school library?

But then Ian had caught the librarian's attention with his question and Ben listened intently to the information being given in answer. Maybe there would be a chance, in later years, to see what was actually in the area that fit what all was being said. He might have asked how to do so but mention of a vanishing glowing book brought his attention to a Hufflepuff he reconized from classes. "Best to stay away from them...." he mused aloud, unconsciously shivering.

Nessa hung off to the side after she had obtained a cinnamon roll from the table and distractedly pulled it apart, popping bits of it in her mouth. She had arrived slightly late and thought it might be rude to draw attention to herself after Leo had started the club meeting, so she stood listening to the discussing as she held onto her copy of Wizard Fact or Muggle Fiction? She thought it might prove useful for one of her classes and had been perusing it as of late.

And the discussion was rather interesting, she loved to hear about what the children enjoyed reading. It gave her a little insight to their personalities and interests. She thought the mention of restricted books was noteworthy as well, finding that section slightly mysterious. Her attention was diverted when Toby spoke up however. A glowing, vanishing book.. It seemed to strike something in her distant memory. Nessa tried to bring it to the forefront of her mind as she finished her cinnamon roll.

Bazinga 11-12-2014 05:03 AM

Cassie was listening to all the books and they all sounded wonderful, but her eyes soon gave a confused look to Leo. He seemed like he didn't know why she would be doing this, but he should know first hand why. He had seen her, at least the students said he did. Maybe they were wrong. Maybe he didn't! Maybe she didn't say those things to him. OHMYGOSH!! Could that be true and she really wasn't mean to him! Oh she so hoped this was true!

"Well umm, they had told me for a few weeks I wasn't being myself, that I was being a mean person, an Evil Queen I think it was. I was obsessed by someone named Snow White." She looked around the room to see if she was correct in the name. Holding up her book she continued, "This book had Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in it and the Evil Queen is in there and how she hired a huntsmen to kill Snow White." That sounded exactly like what the students were saying. "I don't remember doing this, but I witnessed Professor Culloden just recently acting strangely and saying about Beauty, which I've found in here to." She glanced at Zander to confirm.

Slinking down in her beanbag she was exhausted just thinking about it and the pep was quickly running out as she remembered what the students were saying. Then she heard Toby and sat up, "Were you going to say Divination? The book was there? Le.. I mean Mr. Kitridge, the last thing I had remembered was reading a book with Professor Glendower. The rest is a blur. Could this be the same book?" She looked to Toby for maybe the answer and then back to Leo.

Thankfulness? She wasn't sure which, but she had to quickly bite her lip to stop her eyes from welling up. Why was it when people asked how others were going, if something was wrong, they always felt like crying? Was it because they knew someone cared about them? Perhaps that was it. But she didn't want to cry here, not in front of everyone. She didn't want anyone else to know she wasn't… okay. She gulped and said "Thank you Mr. Kitridge, I very much appreciate that." She offered him a small smile to show her gratitude.

Zhenya had been holding her book to her chest after she spoke about it. She smiled at Mr. Kitridge, who appeared to like the sound of her book. She was glad she had taken it with her when she left her Grandparent's place all those years ago. She looked on the front cover for the author, but the fabric cover was very faded and she couldn't make it out. She opened the cover, where the ink was still clear, and read "It's by someone named Yuliana Markovik," she said, pronouncing it with with her Russian tongue. She thought that stocking it in the library would be a great idea, and she beamed inside, happy that she had taken this book, and not one of her many other books. This one had a special place in her heart, and she was glad she could share it with everyone else.

Ian listened as Mr. Kitridge explained the placement of the books in the restricted section. Very interesting. Especially the part about there being a fire, which Ian didn't recall. Seemed like that might be a hazard of the restricted books. Then Mr. Kitridge had mentioned that he'd need an example of a book to say what sort of damage it could do if it were released. Ian had been debating in his head about whether he should bring up the glow-y book when Toby did and Professor Morgan mentioned Divination and evil Queen and Professor Glendower and such. It appeared they had seen the same book. Ian just figured he'd stay silent and wait for an answer. Maybe the origins of this book would be determined.

Felixir 11-12-2014 05:38 PM

Best stay away from them? Toby looked around at the guy who'd said that, a fourth year Gryffindor he knew mostly from seeing in classes, but thought his surname might be Atreyu, if he remembered right from class. Tobias paused and gave a nod. Duly noted. He saw that shiver, and trusted that judgement.

When Professor Morgan spoke up, Toby switched his gaze to her and hesitated, but nodded. He'd wanted to avoid bringing up the whole evil queen stuff, the same way he'd held back on a lot of the details when talking to Airey about all the Hook stuff, but this was a direct question. And now that he thought about it, it might be useful information...

Tobias sat up suddenly a little straighter, which was slightly difficult after he'd been all lazily flopped in it, and sort of looked at the professors a little better.

"Divination, yeah. Actually, now you mention it..." They'd looked at the book together? Toby looked curiously (and slightly uncertainly) between Morgan and Glendower, and even Botros (King Triton, anyone?), then at Kitridge, then back to Professor Morgan with a sort of apologetic look on his face. "You brought the book into class with you, when you were, uhh, acting all... strange, y'know? And then Professor Glendower arrived in class too, and-" Tobias looked over at Glendower, still with that apologetic expression. "-you were acting kinda strange as well." And Professor Morgan had said they'd both read the book.

Toby faltered a little, aware he was getting totally side-tracked here, and was probably ruining the point of the book club. He sort of sank back a little into his beanbag again.

"I guess that's a book I wouldn't recommend."

"It covers the ins and outs of how our wands choose us and how to best harness our wands' powers by looking into like how the cores and woods interact and the properties of them and stuff. The topic changed back from the restricted section to the book Sophie had brought along to the meeting. Leo nodded. "I agree with you Sophie. Learning more about your own unique wand can benefit everyone regardless if it’s for practicing spell work or using a spell in an everyday setting." It could be good if Mr Banner agreed, to have a dozen or so copies of the wand compendium in the library.

Shifting his gaze to Adi once more Leo nodded "Whether muggles can actually make themselves invisible in the future without the aid of magic is a very interesting question Adi that you should bring up with Professor Hadley and Professor Fuller. You might be able to do some research in class or even go on a field trip." He assumed that invisibility landed under the Charms subject and definitely Muggle Studies since it involved muggles.

She thought that stocking it in the library would be a great idea, and she beamed inside, happy that she had taken this book, and not one of her many other books. This one had a special place in her heart, and she was glad she could share it with everyone else.

"Markovik." Leo echoed. "I’ll see if I can find more books by that author. It did really sound like a good read." He commented. Taking up his parchment, a second time to write down the author of the mermaid story he hoped that if Zhenya didn’t take him up on his offer of a talk she’d at least talk to her head of house.

Angel then suddenly thought of something. "In my primary school there were books only year five and six could read, is that like the restricted section in muggle places?" Angel had been confused about why they weren't all allowed to read every book around.

Good. Angel was paying attention and actually contributing and coming up with an interesting question. Thoughtfully Leo replied "In a sense yes. Muggles rank their books after age appropriateness. A book that is written for adults a 6 year old shouldn’t read etc. I don’t think they have an actual restricted section like we do but I’ll look into it before our next meeting." Angel could if she just wanted to.

And now that he thought about it, given the state of Professor Morgan when she'd brought it into the classroom, maybe that was a good thing.
Kitridge.

They had had a glowing book in Divination class that after it had been read vanished. This was alarming!! Had a book from the restricted section been released from its chain? This was worrying. Focusing on Toby’s question Leo responded. "It depends on the book but yes its possible that some books can vanish and appear by their own accord." Furrowing his brows in thought he said "I'm not entirely sure that the library holds any glowing books that can vanish but if we do then they would definitely be placed in the restricted section under lock and key and spells."

He might have asked how to do so but mention of a vanishing glowing book brought his attention to a Hufflepuff he reconized from classes. "Best to stay away from them...." he mused aloud, unconsciously shivering.

Shaking his head Leo replied. "No I haven't read that book. But I'd like to sometime." He just didn’t have that much time at present for pleasure reading. He read books to be able to see if they were worth putting up on the library shelves for the students and faculty to read.

O.O

Turning to Cassie his eyes growing into giant saucers as things started to piece itself together in his mind. "I think you are onto something very important and alarming here Professor Morgan. I think that the glowing book is somehow connected to your episode as the Evil Queent. It was probably the book that possessed you to act like the Evil Queen and for Professor Culloden to act strangely too. It's possible that the book's magic is so strong that you don’t have any recollection of what you've said or done while you’ve been under the book’s spell. Its unfortunately not impossible for magical books to have those kind of powers of enchantment."

*****
Turning to gaze around at the assembled student's he asked fearing the answers he'd potentially get. "Is there anyone else that has experienced something similar to what Professor Morgan just spoke of? Been acting uncharacteristically or saying weird things after being in contact with this mysterious book?" With a glance to Cassie, Botros and Nessa he added worriedly. "I think we need to alert the headmistress. If there is a glowing book on the loose in the castle that is dangerous to both students and staff then we need to find it."

Pulling out his wand from within his robes Leo murmured "Expecto Patronum!" and watched as his patronus in the shape of a silvery bald eagle flied out through the library door.

Ian looked up at the librarian when he asked if any of the students had experienced similar things. He internally debated whether or not to speak up, but saw Mr. Kitridge use his patronus. This meant that perhaps what he dealt with/experienced was a little bit important. Looking from side to side, he waited to see if any of the other students would speak first. It appeared like maybe sort of from Benjamin. But maybe not.

No Eragon for Mr. Kitridge it seemed. Benny wondered if perhaps he should lend the book to the man over the summer. It was a nice one, instead of the glowing, vanishing book that had gotten a fair bit of attention. At the question about acting weird after being around the book, Ben tentatively raised his hand to identify himself. He remembered seeing it around several times and while he hadn't been able to definitely connect the book with his time as the Mad Hatter, it was fitting more and more.

The Gryffindor nodded in response to the question-- but wait. No that's not why he was reading the book actually. So yes, Herbology was amazing.. Or well it was amazing, but that was before Wicked Walton came and STOLE Beautiful Bentley's job!!! So he wasn't reading the book for the plants. He was reading it because Professor Flamsteed suggested it. But more than that, he was reading it because apparently this Neville person was very relatable. Because Zander Adair was a Gryffindor no matter what anyone else had to say about it. And that was why he was reading the book. "I do, but I'm mostly reading about it to learn about Neville Longbottom, sir. Being his biography and all," he smiled a little.

Another look towards Cutty. Hopefully no laughter. Again.

Anyways, he nodded to confirm what Professor Morgan had said about Culloden because although at the time, Zander was thoroughly confused, things were starting to make sense now? JK LOL. Nothing ever made sense here. Not to Zander, anyways. But still, he listened to what everyone had to say, before hearing Mr. Kitridge address the entire class again. "Well... I've never noticed a glowing book, but I think most of the Professor's have been affected," Except for, wait for it... "Except for a few, like Professor Romanos."

Ahem.

Just an observation. Nothing more. Nothing less.

You know, just sayin.

It was weird how things change for you when you are an old man. For Botros today, he loved that he'd just sit on his special comfortable chair and listening to everyone sharing their memories of reading that awesome book. He raised his hand to get a turn, "I did get some odd homework, a drawing of me as a king. With princesses sitting next to me." He scratched his bald head, trying to remember the details.

He did remember seeing some kids acting strange-- well, stranger than they usually were. And then some professors seemed to be acting uncharacteristically, like what professor Morgan said. Botros never realized how viral it had gone over the months. He saw Leo send a Patronus off and he guessed where it was headed, the librarian received a supportive look from the old professor as kids continued to share their stories.

FearlessLeader19 11-12-2014 10:17 PM

Adi was super pleased Mr Kitridge agreed with his opinion that Muggles making themselves invisible without the use of magic in the future fascinating. He nodded at the suggestion. "I will do that.'' What a fun topic that would be to discuss with Professor Head of House and Professor Fuller.

Now the Hufflepuff sat there, listening to all the encounters with the mysterious book. Wasn't it a good thing he hadn't touched it when it had made its presence known in the Puffer Common Room? He had maintained his sanity! Hehe.

He also agreed with Kitridge about the Head needing to be made aware of the happenings. Adi watched with interest as the eagle flew out of the room obviously after the red headed woman.

feeheeheeny 11-12-2014 11:16 PM

It was greatly appreciated that Kitridge had seemed to like her book recommendation, and she debated offering to see if Ira would donate some copies to the Hogwarts library, but that seemed a bit too overkill. She was a suck-up, but not THAT much. At least... not today. Heh. She was certain she had reached her quota on that for the day.

But when the topic of conversation turned to a glowing book, brought up by Tobes, Soph couldn't help but think back to any of those times she had caught even just a glimpse of a glowing book - Divination class, yes, and... had there been something on the ground that had been glowing during the fireworks, too? Could it have been the same thing? She had never thought anything of it - weird things were just the norm around Hogwarts, weren't they? She didn't think it would've been anything that could cause harm, or cause people to become fairytale characters for a little while... but maybe it DID make sense that, rather than her and Tobes picking up the curse at Disney World, the curse came from a fairytale book itself. Actually, the more she thought about it, the more she was CERTAIN that made a lot more sense.

A looot more sense than her previous theory. Eh hem.

Unfortunately, she had nothing constructive to add to the conversation, so she figured... well. They might as well wait and see what the Headmistress had to say about this, hm? And, just out of curiosity, she found herself scanning the bookshelves around them, wondering if such a glowing book would show itself.

BanaBatGirl 11-13-2014 01:23 AM

We brought Cosgrach.

With patronus received and possibly crazy professor in tow, the Headmistress made her entrance into the Book Club meeting. She looked around the room, the Potions professor still on her arm like a well-worn accessory, and nodded at everyone. Well then, this was an eclectic group... and more adults were here than she would have thought...

"So, about the book?" The redhead's eyebrows went up in question as her blue eyes landed on Leo. "We have a mysterious glowing book on the loose, is that all?"

Just another day at Hogwarts, right?

Felixir 11-13-2014 02:37 AM

............. Welp. That had definitely escalated.

Toby, flopped in his beanbag and hugging his own book to his chest whilst his fidgety feet tapped on the floor, listened as Kitridge went on about the glowing book to Professor Morgan and then sent off a patronus. Right. Okay. Weird how it had only just been one of those distracted no-thought-required kind of ideas that just seemed to tumble from his mouth without any real say-so from his brain. And yet apparently it had been quite important. Kudos to you, impulsive speech patterns.

As he didn't have much more valuable input apart from that very first idea, Toby remained quiet for now. When Truebridge and Culloden entered, the fifth year looked from them back to Kitridge. Everything would be explained, and then fixed by the adults, and back to normal, right? Hogwarts-normal, anyway. And if not, then Toby at least knew to avoid the ominously glowing book in the future. Bright side.

Bazinga 11-13-2014 03:12 AM

Toby at the very end again too...

Her eyes widened as Toby said she had brought it to class. She was the reason it was in her class. She might be the reasons others had it. Oh this was horrible, this was more horrible then the thought of possibly being me to Leo, the sweetest librarian ever! She just sat there dumbstruck. "I'm so sorry I brought it to class. I didn't know." Her green eyes went to Nessa as Toby mentioned her. "Professor Glendower was there?" They were right about things. "Were we fighting over something by chance?" That was the foggy memory she kept thinking about.

She gave Abe a smile and nodded, "Yes I do love the stories, but I just don't know the lesson I'm suppose to be learning from them at the moment." How not to be mean? Was that it? Everything had been so confusing.

It could be good if Mr Banner agreed, to have a dozen or so copies of the wand compendium in the library.

Face turning into a grin as Leo turned to Kace he gave a thumbs up gesture. "I'll cross my fingers and toes that you’ll get to work in your dream profession after Hogwarts then. Cassie being to have a mini panic attack though she sat quiet without any real freak out expressions. "This is horrible, this book it.. " She just didn't have the words. How could a book do this? Soon she saw another person coming into the library or well two. The headmistress had Cossy with her? Cassie certainly hoped the man was doing better. She felt bad when he was at her office, but there didn't seem like anything could get him to stay. Seeing that she was looking to Leo, Cassie thought it best to stay quiet. Children being put in close contact with that book in her class, she could be blamed for some of them acting weird. So yep mouth was staying closed for once.

Though she did look at Toby and give him a smile. Leaning over a bit she whispered, "Thank you sooo much for helping me figured some of the confusion out." She certainly appreciated it. She hated not remembering and not know what had happened. The students had been all so nice in telling her.

Zhenya was quite pleased to see Mr. Kitridge write down the author's name. She would have to ask him at a later date if had been able to locate the book. Otherwise, perhaps she could find some kind of cloning charm. She wasn't even sure if one existed.

What on earth was going on? Her eyes widened with fear as one of the Professors was talking about being… possessed? And other students. HUH!? Zhenya had never heard of any of this happening, what on earth had she been doing for the first weeks of term? She listened to everyone speaking, and then the HEADMISTRESS came in!? Uhh Ohh… However, she took comfort in the fact the Headmistress wasn't too concerned. If it was a real big problem, surely she would be worried and setting something into action straight away?

Jasmine listened as the conversation had turned to a glowing book and the people possibly possessed by it. Off the top of her head, she could think of at least six students who had gone crazy and that wasn't even counting the Professors. Jasmine wasn't sure about the book, but the first person she remembered acting.....out of the ordinary was Lex. After that it was a virtual onslaught of fairy tale characters.

Before she knew it, a Patronus had been sent and the Headmistress arrived. What was it with this Book Club meeting? Whenever there was a meeting, drama ensued. Jasmine just sat back waited for more craziness to follow.

Angel smiled as she looked at the Librarian as he spoke... he sure was amazing and he was going to find out the answer to her question that was awesome.

Angel listened to what he said, she had seen the book once but that was about it, she had no idea what the book did except make people crazy, her own boyfriend Benny had gone crazy because of the book.

Angel suddenly saw the headmistress come into the room. "Good day." Angel smiled at the woman, she decided that she had best be polite. "How are you today?"

While Cosgrach still thought someone rather than something was on the loose hexing them, he still had to consider this book theory too, so he followed his boss to the book meeting. And anyway, if so many people were affected... which explained Dot's behaviour too, and several others'. Come to think about it... maybe there was a book rather than someone on the loose.

He looked like a calm accessory on Annie's arm as he vaguely nodded at people. He was still thinking this, so he wasn't very aware of people there. He snapped out of it, though. Yes, it had to be a book. Or an object, at least, not a person.

"How do we find it?"

The best question ever asked, he was sure.

Umm....somehow--Eden didn't know, she had drifted off for a bit--they had gotten to a discussion about how the professors and SOME students were acting...weird. Eden could TOTALLY attest to this, too, because she had first hand experience--with both Morgan AND Walton! Nodding at everything everyone said--she wondered if a book could be causing this. Because it made sense, didn't it? She had seen a book in certain places. Hadn't there been one in that Divination class with the 'evil' queen? Hmph.

But as SOON as Headmistress Truebridge came in, Eden hid behind Zander or Cutty--she honestly wasn't paying attention to which one BECAUSE THAT LADY WAS CRAZY AND EDEN'S DETENTION STILL RANG IN HER HEAD. Yep. She was NOT ready to talk to the headmistress again at aaaallllllll. She didn't want to say anything.

So she was quiet.

Very, very quiet.

FearlessLeader19 11-13-2014 09:47 PM

Annnnd the Headmistress had arrived! So had the Potions Professor. "Hello,'' Adi said to both of them. Could not forget his manners now, could he? Truebridge got straight to the point. Good. The sooner they found the book, the better.

But Cosgrach had asked an excellent question. How could they find it? Hmmm.

BanaBatGirl 11-14-2014 12:49 AM

Weird how everyone got quiet as soon as the head honcho entered the room. Annie was used to it by now, though. She was a show stopper (in appearance, naturally).

She did, however, nod at the Prefect.

Annnnnd back to Cossy. "Well," the Heamistress disentangled herself from him, "We'll form a search party, of course." She was still somewhat doubtful that a mysterious book was roaming the castle. Books were objects, they couldn't move. "Can we have more of a description of what we're looking for, first, please? Anyone? All I know is that it's a glowing book."

Some memory from earlier in the term was fuzzy at the back of her mind, but she dismissed it fairly quickly. BOOK, a glowing BOOK was the topic now at the BOOK CLUB meeting.

emjay 11-14-2014 04:34 AM

Yes, she very vaguely remembered reading some sort of odd book a few weeks ago, a book that Cassie had mentioned at Gobstones, and she glanced at her as she mentioned her name. Could this be the same book that a few of the students were talking about? She wished she could remember. But nobody had told her she had been acting strangely so she wasn't sure..

Though Toby seemed to think differently. Brown eyes snapped to his as he spoke her name and she looked at him, slightly confused. "I was acting strangely in Divination class? How exactly do you mean?" She didn't remember going to any Divination classes lately as busy as she had been but that nagging feeling at the back of her mind had been growing. She was just about to ask, but Cassie beat her to it. Could this be when she thought she had dreamed that they were fighting? She was really interested in what he had to say.

But Nessa didn't get a chance to say any more as before she knew it, Leo felt the need to summon Annie, then she looked around the room as more students and her colleagues spoke. There really did seem to be a problem here.. and it wasn't just her and Cassie. She hadn't really noticed anyone acting-- wait. She had noticed one girl acting very strangely at the beginning of the year, but.. that was related to class, wasn't it? Nessa tried to shake off the feeling then turned her eyes to the library entrance as the headmistress and Cosgrach came in. She didn't really have much of a description for them, not knowing much about it herself.

A search party though.. that might be a good idea.. and she nodded distractedly to herself as her mind drifted in thought.

Leo's fears were valid. This book hadn't just messed with members of staff it had messed with students too. "I'm sorry Ian. We’ll get to the bottom of this I promise." They had to. They couldn’t have a mysterious book on the loose.

"And Professor Flamsteed had been acting like Captain Hook after he dealt with the book in our common room. " The situation was adding up more and more and the fourth year had to admit seeing the patronus gave him mixed feelings. The fact that it was serious yet the fact that someone was leading the investigation to stop it from happening.

Mad Hatter was a fairy tale and so was Captain Hook. Oh dear this was not good. "Benny, do you remember anything about what the book looked like? Did it glow?" It was alarming Leo felt that Airey had been enchanted/messed with too. Hopefully Airey was all right.

SPOILER!!: Zander

Or well it was amazing, but that was before Wicked Walton came and STOLE Beautiful Bentley's job!!! So he wasn't reading the book for the plants. He was reading it because Professor Flamsteed suggested it. But more than that, he was reading it because apparently this Neville person was very relatable. Because Zander Adair was a Gryffindor no matter what anyone else had to say about it. And that was why he was reading the book. "I do, but I'm mostly reading about it to learn about Neville Longbottom, sir. Being his biography and all," he smiled a little.

"Ah, yes Neville Longbottom is an extraordinary plant expert." Leo commented. But back to the more pressing matter at hand with the book. "Interesting observation Zander, I think it's safe to say that you can count me into the unaffected category too." He as far as he knew hadn’t been in contact with any glowing books or had experienced any spiels of amnesia.

He raised his hand to get a turn, "I did get some odd homework, a drawing of me as a king. With princesses sitting next to me." He scratched his bald head, trying to remember the details.

Botros had gotten odd homework with drawings of him as king with princesses sitting around him. Gazing over to his good friend Leo said "It looks like the book got to you too Abraham. It sounds like you could have been acting like the king in a number of children stories."

Leo was relieved when Headmistress Truebridge finally arrived to the library. Turning to her he said. "So far we've pieced together that this mysteriously glowing book has been for lack of better word 'enchanting' both members of staff and students alike to act uncharacteristically for spiels of time. And it seems from the stories so far in the meeting that they have acted like characters out of children's stories and more importantly fairy tales. So maybe it’s a book that takes up all fairy tale stories written both magical and muggle." But Leo was in a sense grasping for straws. They needed more information.

Yes a search party for the book was definitely needed and of top priority. Leo couldn’t agree more with what Headmistress Truebridge was saying. Turning to Cossy by her side he asked "Is it true like Professor Morgan said that you’ve been acting strangely too? Have you got any memory of what the book looks like aside from its glowing attribute?"

*****
Turning to gaze out over all the assembled students and staff for that matter Leo said "Everyone please try and think back and remember. Can you remember anything at all about the mysterious book aside from its glow? Was it big/small? What colour was it? Was the lettering in the book old or more modern? Headmistress Truebridge needs more to go on if she is going to organize a search party for the book." The better description they got the easier it would be to find the book hopefully.

Edward Penguin 11-14-2014 01:53 PM

Ian tried to think back. He had seen it a couple times, but only really recognized it was an older, larger book. The pages sort of moved on their own when the book seemed to get going, but maybe it was because they were flipping through them.

Ian raised his hand. Headmistress. I saw it in a couple places. It was in our common room and I think I saw it at the fireworks show and divination. It was an old book. It was kind of big. He looked around for a book that he thought matched the size. He just couldn't find the right one. He continued briefly. I'm pretty sure that book wasn't there when I came into my common room that day. The common room was empty before I showed up.

FearlessLeader19 11-14-2014 01:59 PM

Well, at least he knew for sure it was the book making everyone all loony. Quite honestly, some of the characters they had turned into had been very entertaining. But about the book...Adi had not really gotten a good look at it. Just that single brief moment in his common room.

Ian seemed to have giving the description under control though. Adi agreed with the boy's description from what little he could remember. So he merely nodded as he spoke. 'Old' was definitely one thing he remembered.

Holmesian Feline 11-14-2014 02:12 PM

Yeah, it definitely glowed. So that got a nod from Benny to the librarian. Hearing footsteps, the fourth year turned to notice both the headmistess and Culloden join them. As much as he would normally greet them, it wasn't exactly time for pleasantries as the woman confirmed in her own way. The search was on and they were talking about ways to notice and find it.'

As for further description, he nodded again in confirmation of Ian's description, the Gryffindor himself still digging through his possible memories. "The lettering was...old....and fancy," he remarked in broken thoughts, trying to think back to the times he saw it more clearly and in his right mind. "And it...definitely was titled about fairy tales." That last thought was in memory of someone reading it aloud in the common room. The time with the bowling with Flamsteed.

Weasley174 11-14-2014 02:15 PM

Angel looked at the Professor and then raised her hand, did she need to do that to speak. "I saw it in the common room, Professor Flamsteed was there and this other girl had the book and then Professor Flamsteed took it and became Professor Hooksteed." Angel still remembered that. "All I remember was the book was really big and that it glowed but as soon as Professor Flamsteed had turned the book vanished into thin air." Angel had no idea a book could do that until now.

Magical Soul 11-14-2014 02:20 PM

Annie and Culloden received greeting nods and smiles from the old man sitting on the only big, sturdy chair in the room. He let Leo handle the filling-in part.

After the Hufflepuff boy offered a valuable input, Botros raised his hand to offer his, too. "Uh I remember reading that book... vaguely." It was his usual memory, he couldn't remember details from monthssss ago. Not a chance. "I'm trying to remember where I found it, but it was definitely big. Old. The cover was beautifully ornamented, with a pink ribbon dangling from inside the pages..." He remembered the pink ribbon because it reminded him of their headmistress and Professor Morgan. He thought they'd like that book.

"I think you're going to easily spot it, because if I remember correctly it was titled The Fairy Tale Book." So... Botros scratched his bald scalp thoughtfully, "There's something else, something important..." What was it what was it whaaaat was it. Scratch scratch scratch.

He remembered him being like the wolf he vaguely remembered and asking us to step aside and then the giant came along. "I also have seen it affect my friends Cinna and Lux and Lux was in the mindset of Ariel..." After he had seen what he had seen he never wanted to go and touch the book even though the temptation was too great.

ArianaBlack 11-14-2014 09:30 PM

Okay well Zander had never even seen this glowing book before, but one thing was certain. If there was going to be a search party then he had to be a part of it. They could split into groups and Zander could take over one. You know where they'd head first? The Defense Against the Dark Arts room. It sounded like a pretty good bet.

As for the rest, he didn't have anything to comment on so he just nodded a little. But when the time came, he'd volunteer for the search party. 'Cause reasons.

Bazinga 11-15-2014 03:02 AM

Cassie sat quietly and listened to everyone that was speaking around her. When the headmistress asked about the book, "I can't remember it that well, except it said fairy tales on it." She wasn't sure of anything else, "The rest is just a blur other then what others have said."

She went quiet again listening to everyone, "How do you think we can find it and if we do how can we get it not to possess anyone. I mean if it's gotten many of us here, I would fear someone else being mesmerized to go towards it." She didn't want anyone else to not remember what they were doing. "Yes Cossy you were. You were at my office going on about Beauty." At least he didn't want someone to eat a poisonous apple.

Taking up a parchment Leo wrote down the mysterious books description as Benny added what he remembered to the list. "Thank you Benny. This will really help." Leo commented as he added old and fancy lettering. His mind raced. Did the age of the book mean that it was a book that belonged in the restricted section or did that just mean that it had been written long ago?

Turning to hear what Angel had to contribute Leo said thoughtfully thinking out loud."So people get 'turned' after they’ve been reading the book? And then the book conveniently disappears?" This was not going to be easy. It was a complicated matter no doubts about that. They needed to find the book fast and get it removed from the school premises before it messed with somebody else.

Abraham you could always count on Leo mused inwardly. The senior man had a good memory and that would serve them in the hunt. "Thank you Professor Botros. This is really helpful. I’ll note down all those characteristics." Nobody else had so far mentioned a pink ribbon dangling from inside the pages. Could it be important?

"The Fairy Tale Book," Leo echoed trying to remember if he had come across it before but the library was vast. "I don’t suppose you remember if there was an author listed too?" It’d be a great help if they had that. He could check his big book inventory then. Then they could possibly figure out how dangerous the book potentially could be even if judging by the stories it was pretty dangerous.

Turning to Cassie again Leo shrugged. "I suppose we have to lure it out somehow but that might be hard if it appears and disappears by its own accord. Do you remember if you were bored or talking about books you wanted to read when you came in contact with it?" There had to be something that had gotten it to pop up in so many different places. It couldn’t be a coincidence.

Glancing over at Nessa for support he asked "Think it will be safe to touch the book as long as you don't open it to read its words Professor Glendowner? It has to be the words that start the whole um 'enchanting' process right? Have you studied anything similiar in history?" No book had any real power unless you read it. At least that was Leo’s opinion.

Lastly he turned to Headmistress Truebridge to offer her the parchment with the description of the book that everyone had contributed to "Is that description good enough to start the hunt for the book?"

Bazinga 11-16-2014 02:55 PM

She fidgeted a bit as Leo asked her about the book. She just didn't know. "I'm sorry, I just don't remember. The last I remember before seeing it was Professor Glendower and I at the Suit of Armour having a little indoor picnic. Professor Glendower had spotted it and then I remember us opening it and reading some of the stories. That's all I truly remember though." She was really no help.

Looking to Nessa she hoped her friend would remember more then she did or maybe one of the students. "The ones that saw it in my class. Was it opened? Did it possess anyone during that time?" If someone saw it happen then maybe they could figure out how to not have it happen again.

FearlessLeader19 11-17-2014 01:47 PM

Adi was totally up for helping with the search but he just had one question. He cleared his throat then addressed Mr Kitridge. "I think it's a great description. Not many books would look like that, right?'' So it would sort of stick out.

But now he addressed the real question to everyone. "The Castle is so huge and the book could be somewhere on the Grounds for all we know. Is there anyway we could narrow down the search areas? I mean, are there certain places the book only appears?" If they could figure that out, it would help them find the troublesome book a whole lot faster.

Leo's fears were valid. This book hadn't just messed with members of staff it had messed with students too. "I'm sorry Ian. We’ll get to the bottom of this I promise." They had to. They couldn’t have a mysterious book on the loose.

Mad Hatter was a fairy tale and so was Captain Hook. Oh dear this was not good. "Benny, do you remember anything about what the book looked like? Did it glow?" It was alarming Leo felt that Airey had been enchanted/messed with too. Hopefully Airey was all right.

"My guess is that you acted like the beast from the Beauty and the Beast." Leo commented with a glance over at Cossy. He didn’t know if it was reassuring but the Beast in that fairytale wasn’t actually evil just cursed.

But now he addressed the real question to everyone. "The Castle is so huge and the book could be somewhere on the Grounds for all we know. Is there anyway we could narrow down the search areas? I mean, are there certain places the book only appears?" If they could figure that out, it would help them find the troublesome book a whole lot faster.

...Leobald was taking notes on all of this, yes? Yes, yes he was. What a good librarian. Bunz was nearly tempted to pat the man on his curly head, but now she had a parchment to look over.

As the others continued talking, she mused through what they knew and nodded occasionally. "I don't know if there's a pattern to where the book appears and disappears, but it looks like we need to start searching if we have the hopes of finding it... anytime soon." She looked down at her expensive watch. "How about this... I'll make up some search groups, you all can nudge your friends to join in, and then we'll regroup here in the library in a few hours. Sound good?"

Well, even if it didn't, she was going to make groups for them. The redhead snagged borrowed somebody's quill and quickly jotted down names, looking around the room to see who was present and who else might like to help. Then she posted the parchment with a simple levitating charm.

"Come find your name, let's split up, and get to work. I think we need to check all the common rooms, most of the classrooms... let's just go floor by floor. Grab anyone you see along the way, or anyone you know who has read this book, and make them help. THE HUNT IS ON!"

And after doing all that, naturally, the Headmistress turned toward Leo: "Please look around the library and the rest of this floor, if you would. We NEED to find this book!"

ooc note #1: I went by usernames because that's easier for me, but pretend your charrie is actually reading his/her name rather than YOUR username.

Angel listened to the Headmistress as she spoke and then went and looked to see which group she was in... it seemed she was being lead by the headmistress and the potions master which was going to be interesting... she was going to try her hardest to find this book because she was sure the Librarian would want to get rid of it.

Ian heard the instructions of the headmistress. Well...apparently they were going to be tromping through the castle hunting the book. He hoped he got put in a group with Professor Morgan. When he went up to read it, he saw his name under Professor Glendower along with Toby, Jasmine and Cutty. He was sort of familiar with the first two but didn't think he'd had many interactions with Cutty. He shrugged and shuffled over to Nessa, trying to hide his disappointment.

Daydreamer11 11-17-2014 06:36 PM

Jasmine listened as everyone spoke about the glowing book. She had never seen it up close, but she had certainly seen the effect that it had had on students and staff alike. How they would ever find a disappearing book, was beyond her.

The Headmistress it seemed, had a plan. So they would be breaking up into groups and forming search parties? The last search party Jasmine had been connected with hadn't turned out so well. Hopefully this one would be more successful. Maybe this would be a good time to test the potion that Professor Culloden had given her last year. She always kept it handy, just in case. Deciding to wait and see thow things went, Jasmine walked up to check the list of teams that the Headmistress had created.

So Jasmine would be paired with Toby, Cutty, Ian and Professor Glendower. Good group, she felt. Ready to get started, Jasmine tried to gather with the other members of her group.

FearlessLeader19 11-17-2014 06:39 PM

Adi nodded at Truebridge's explanation. Hopefully they would find the book right in the Castle. And quickly too, before someone else ended up turning into a fairy tale character. He watched her sort them into groups then he went to find his name.

He fell into the group led by Professor Botros and it included Sophie from Claw House, Kace and another Ravenclaw girl. They were taking the third and fourth corridors. Great! Adi was ready to get going.

feeheeheeny 11-17-2014 06:59 PM

Sophie had been pretty worthless, all things considered, as she hadn't seen much of the book at all and only knew its features by everyone's descriptions. She wished she could have offered more, but she knew if she didn't have anything particularly helpful to say, she might as well stay silent and let everyone else offer the proper, desired feedback.

Then they got their assignments, though, and Sophie HURRIED to see who she was with - oh. No, she wasn't with the headmistress, Culloden, Zander, and Gabe - shame, really - and she wasn't with Tobes and Jasmine. Which... actually was OKAY because they were with Cutty, and she didn't want to be part of that. She DID, however, get to be with Botros, Eden, Kace, AND the Hufflepuff prefect, so... really, she was pretty psyched.

"Be safe," she whispered to Tobes with a loving brush of a hand on his shoulder as she moved to congregate with her assigned group. They weren't in any REAL danger, she assumed, but she still didn't like the thought of the book possessing Tobes, and she figured he didn't like the thought of that either, thus she would absolutely be worried about him.

As she joined up near Botros with the others, she wondered... who would check the FIFTH floor, though? That was the only one not accounted for, wasn't it? Maybe, since Kitridge was going to check out his floor they were currently on, they should check out the third and fifth floor instead of the fourth? "Since Mr. Kitridge is gonna check out this floor, should we do yours, professor?" she asked Botros. "I don't think anyone got assigned to that one." Trying to help, was all.

...And what did they do if they FOUND the book? If it disappeared at will and could evade capture? Merlin. They were in for quite an adventure, weren't they?

Bazinga 11-17-2014 07:21 PM

Cassie listened as Adi added to things that had been happening, her mind pushing her thoughts into focus more then what was going on around her. She tried so hard to remember anything about the book. What did it really look like? How did it possess people? What was going to make it turn up again? She just couldn't remember anything that could help. Sighing she tried to focus just in time to see a list and talk of searching.

Seeing her name at the top she looked to see which students were going with her. Glancing around and finding Benny, Lux, Zhenya, and Hadleigh. "You are with me." She smiled at them as she found them. "Let's start at the seventh floor and work our way down. Now we have a few places there and then the sixth floor, so I guess we should go get started."

Turning to the club she made sure there was nothing else. "My little group will be off. Good luck everyone." Encouraging snaps right now. If she had her snap cup they could have done a quick positive energy snapping before everyone left.

*sighs* she'd find it someday!

Turning with her group she headed out of the library.

emjay 11-17-2014 07:33 PM

Nessa was doing her best to try to remember anything about the book they were all talking about. If she was correct, it was the same book that Cassie had mentioned to her at the Gobstones match last week, the one that Penelope said she thought had possessed Cassie. But Nessa hadn't been possessed, had she? She did have that block of hazy memory but no one had mentioned she had acted strange at all - not until Toby said something just now.

She glanced over at Cassie as she mentioned their picnic and the book. Feeling a little useless because she couldn't remember more, she added, "Yes.. it just appeared. I don't remember it being there when we first got there, but then it was." Of course, what did she know, really? She couldn't remember much about those few weeks and even that last memory she had before things went hazy was nearly as cloudy as all that.

Nessa bit her lip, thinking over the question Leo then posed to her. "I really don't know," she admitted. "I suppose it is possible that the magic this book seems to have could be contained in its pages and words.. but I can't be certain. There are all types of magical spells and curses that could be placed on books, I think we should best proceed with caution if anyone sees it." Where was Medea? Perhaps she could best advise them as this could very possibly be some sort of dark magic. They needed something to contain the book so no one else got possessed.

Though she was awfully distracted in her thoughts, a search party sounded kind of fun and she knew she could make it that way besides so it wasn't all doom and gloom. Once Annie drew up a parchment, Nessa practically skipped over towards it. Yes, first floor sounded perf! That was right were her office and classroom were so she knew it well. Glancing over the names, she sang them out in a staccato form, "Ian, Toby, Jasmine, Cutty.. off to the second floor we go!" Since that one was closer to where they were, might as well start there first.. then to her favorite floor, the first! She started marching towards the door of the library, expecting her little troop to follow.

So they were breaking up into groups of staff and students to search the castle to try and find the mysterious and dangerous book. Okay by him, as long as none of them got possessed again. Benny wasn't sure about that risk. As for pulling friends into the search, most if not all of his were already there, albeit all in different groups it seemed so that idea might be out for him. Focusing on the search would surely be enough to contribute to this big adventure of tale-telling proportion.

He was with Professor Morgan, the boy nodding in agreement as he was claimed and the suggestion of where to start was given out to them. "Alright..." Benny said simply as they started to move, the fourth year Gryffindor heading out and following the woman he at least was glad was no longer the evil queen.

Now to search for the fairy tale book instead of Snow White.

Ian was watching all that was going on when the professor told them it was time to be off. He watched as Professor Morgan left and sighed once more. Then he followed Professor Glendower to the second floor where they would search. He stuck his hands in his pockets and hoped they'd find this book on their travels. It seemed that the book just popped up wherever it wanted. He wondered if actually looking for the book would make it harder to find.

Zhenya had been listening to the commotions within the Book Club. What was supposed to be an innocent book club was now turning into a… book search party! She was a bit excited, although… should she be more worried? What if the book turned her into a toad or something? No, mustn't think like that.

She saw she had been allocated with Professor Cassie, Divinations Professor. At least she was smiling, that was nice. Zhenya got off her chair and walked towards the Professor. Seventh floor? Cool! She turned and left with the group.

Alright, it seemed like everything was falling into place. Annie blinked for a moment as little Sophie Brown pointed out her error in assigning floors... oh! Duh!

"Yes, I did mean to have Mr. Kitridge search THIS floor, and for Professor Botros to do the third and fifth... my mistake." She smiled graciously at them all and then signaled for her's and Cossy's group to go. "Group one, to the dungeons!!!!!!!!"

Maybe she could send a patronus outside on their way.

That was the foggy memory she kept thinking about.

Though she did look at Toby and give him a smile. Leaning over a bit she whispered, "Thank you sooo much for helping me figured some of the confusion out." She certainly appreciated it. She hated not remembering and not know what had happened. The students had been all so nice in telling her.

"Well... yeah. Sort of. Like... I think you were arguing," Toby nodded, already sort of regretting bringing the whole thing up. This sort of thing qualified as unpleasant news, and Tobias didn't like to share that sort of thing, but he was also helping, he supposed, because it didn't sound fun to not remember huge chunks of time. "I think other people would know more than me. I was across the other side of the room at the time, so I don't really know details..."

He'd been keeping his distance intentionally, of course, though he didn't say that out loud. It had been... a weird lesson.

Buuuuuuuuuut Professor Morgan was THANKING him and Toby gave her a relieved little smile. "You're welcome. It's okay, I mean. Yeah." What was the proper response here? Luckily, the book club discussion had started to escalate by this point, so Toby focused instead on what was happening here.

Ooh. OOH. THEY WERE DOING A THING.

Toby perked up at once at talk of them all heading off to go for a search. As he'd expected today to mainly be about sitting and talking, this was some real good news. Moving about the castle to hunt for this tearaway book was active and productive and Tobias was definitely IN. Still clutching onto his book, the Hufflepuff flailed for a second before managing to climb up out of his beanbag. Those things were a lot easier to flop into than they were to get out of.

He checked the list, discovering after a moment that he was placed in Professor Glendower's group with Cutty, Ian Tinker and Jasmine Guidry. Before he could head over to them, Toby got a tad distracted by Soph.

"You too," he said to her, with a little smile. He'd seen that book make people act totally crazy and out of character and Tobias didn't want that for either of them, or anyone for that matter.

The groups were dispersing, and Toby hurried over to his own just in time to hear Glendower calling out the names of those in her group. He smiled to show he was present and listening, gave a nod, and followed the professor out the room.
