The train has pulled into Kings Cross Station ending another school term at Hogwarts. Let's wave goodbye to the Term 35 school chat and say hello to the new shiny Term 36 school chat.

With the departure of Mr. Cantwell, the 5th groundskeeper in the past 6 years, who will take over this cursed position? Who will be the new prefects and captains?

I actually have a list of possible charries always in mind. They don't completely form into proper charries until about a term before they are introduced. My possible next one just got a name, but the voice and personality is there and I can hear it loud and clear each day.

I give my charrie a name, imagine what they look like and then let their story flow from there. I pretty much wing it.
Of course Mikey is a 2nd gen so he already had some basis to him and I was going to make him a Slytherin like his dad but then when I had a trial run with him, I realised the boy was not snake material, lol.
I don't actually have mine planned out (as far as bio and all). She was just the next born in my rPG family, and I know she'll be 10 or 11 right around the time Sophie graduates.
Same here. Mine was born six terms ago and he is growing up in the RPG family and I'm getting to know him as the terms go along.

I think it's because I just can't NOT be staff. Except for that one time with Fletcher, and he was kind of an experiment. And Tori, but she doesn't count cos she was just a 1-termer AND I had RP'd her before.
Second gens MIGHT be the exception, though. And I only have one who will be old enough to go to Hogwarts anytime soon...

Bart was Victoria's son so that's how I knew he'd be coming up, but his personality and things I had no clue. I still don't know as everyone can see I can't control that one.

It begins with a face, a voice and a bit of a personality for me then it just flows after that. It's still a bit of a surprise but sometimes are planned out, when others just fall into place from trial and error.
I didn't start out trying to plan for later school characters, it just.. happened. Katie happened, during Savannah's Hogwarts years, and I couldn't not play her. And then Lainie was suppose to be played after Katie, because I absolutely adore her. But that didn't happen. Melo wasn't really planned, nor were Delphi or Callidora (though, Delphi had been in my head for aaaages), I just decided to use them because the time was right and they were in my head already.
Annnd Hayley was a given. And I just can't resist one of my next kiddos, who is technically not new, but born into the RP/the baby sister of a current Hogwarts kid.

I wouldn't call you nearsighted. I think it's just a different method of creation. For me, it's not something I can help. My characters have always just been there whether I want them to be or not. Whether the timing is good or bad for me makes them no nevermind, because apparently I have multiple personality disorder. I try to just chose the ones that I think will read in some unique manner or what I think other RPers will enjoy interacting with.
For this particular medium I think it's important to have a strategy for creation to get to know the character, but how each player does that is his/her own thing. There's so many ways to get there.

I kinda put Toby together super super quickly. I had an idea for what he'd be like and he ended up being completely different and kind of taking on the personality of one of the characters j chillin in my head. Because I'm kinda like Izzy in that there's just a bunch of different ageless/nameless (but not faceless for some reason ._.) characters in my head, ready to be played. And if I try and force a character to be a certain way it straight up doesn't work. But I don't like to plan them or think of backstories. It's just like when I'm ready for a new school character I'll just pick one and go with it :3
But I suppose in the future I'll play a character a few weeks in advance to see what they're like and stuff 'cause they will not all be Hufflepuffs, but if I resort I'll do it from their P.o.V and it's only really after playing them that their personality sort of develops, so I'd need to do that first.
Though this is all meaningless cause with both my Hogwarts characters they were just created on the spot and their personalities just... happened.

Well, Ariadne was always mine. I play her off-site. Droo just borrowed her for Potions class. Droo actually plays some of my charrie sometimes. Well, one in particular other than Ariadne. Toward the end of Bella Greingoth's life, Droo played her off-site for the duration of two or three SS terms. I don't know if many people remember Bella, but she was Senior Undersecretary and Anna's mom.

I think the only charries that I made on the spot were probably the Weltons. There was a lot of planning in their history but I kind of just picked faces and let things fall as they may before anything truly solidified.
Sophie needs to RP with some second gens, particularly the ones whose parents knew Sophie's parents.
Hope is a second gen...but she doesn't know that yet...shhh! I need to get with the person who is supposed to disclose this information in about two terms because I've been rethinking it...only because I REALLY want her to know. #impatient
And her mum knew/KNOWS Anna...if that's not a dead give away to who it is, then I don't know what is

I think she'll be 10 when Sophie graduates, so I'll play a random. Randoms are so much fun, because you can just do whatever and not worry about a family history! I should use Steve Urkel for the model.
