Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

SPOILER!!: Lux
QUOTE=Squishy;11539045]Lux was not happy with Sander now. He totally knew what she was talking about since he was the one that had fed her the tampered with food in the first place. "Don't you even try to play innocent in this. I know it was you who-" A snap of a twig that was underfoot, and her horse was off like a flash, spooked.
Lux gave a scream. "SOMEONE HELP ME! I'M GOING TO FALL OFF!" It was so terrifying, and she kept screaming.[/QUOTE]
"Okay I confess. I cast the daydream charm on you. I thought you love horses. Are you riding on ....wait what is happening?" Sander automatically reached out to help Lux when she cried out for help.
She was no longer looking unhappy. In fact, she was looking terrified. Her continuous screams for help chilled him to the bone. Sander wished that he could enter his daydream to help her.
"Everything is going to be alright, Lux. I'm going to end the spell." Sander told her as he reached out for his wand.
Now where had he put it? He thought that he had placed it into his holster after casting the spell. Sander began to panic because until he found it he couldn't end the spell. His little sister was in trouble!!

Why wasn't he making this stop?
Lux clung onto the horse for dear life, her arms tight against its neck as tears started to fall. She wanted someone to save her...
Wait, was that Bay?
"Sander, there is no need to worry! Bay has come to help me!" She immediately felt better as she saw the older boy come towards her on another horse. As soon as he was close enough, he scooped her off of her horse, and onto his own.
She was so happy that he was there, she didn't even wonder what he was doing in this daydream. "I'm okay now, Sander!" Smiling, she held on tightly to Bay, feeling much better.

Sander finally found his wand, tucked in the waist of his pants. Just as he was about to end the daydream spell, he noticed there was a change in Lux's demeanor. She was now smiling and she even looked happy. When she mentioned that Bay had rescued her, Sander mentally smacked his head.
He had totally forgotten that when he had visualized the daydream, he had also placed Lux's friend, Bay, in it. Just to keep her company while she was in it. He was glad that he had made that decision to include Bay in it. The way Lux was looking right now, he could tell that Lux was definitely appreciative that Bay was there with her. From the way she had her arms placed, he had a suspicion that she was now holding on to him.
Then he cursed his failing memory. The Professor had asked that they take notes while their unsuspecting victim was under the enchantment of the daydream. He quickly pulled out his journal from his backpack and as he began recalling what Lux's reaction was during the entire episode, he quickly wrote it down in his journal.
Once he was done, he spoke to Lux. "Lux, I can see you are enjoying the daydream, and I know that you want to stay there a little while longer, but I'm going to end the daydream spell now." Sander informed Lux as he took out his wand and ended the spell.
Then he waited for Lux to come back to the real world.

In a flash, Lux found herself back in the common rooms, arms held out as if she was holding on to someone who wasn't really there. Blinking, she let her arms fall down again.
"That was so scary at first! I'm not sure why Bay was there, but I was glad to be saved from almost falling off." She gave a loud sigh in relief. It had seemed so real to her! And as much as she liked horses, the thought of being on a spooked one was not something she wanted to repeat. "I hate to think of what would have happened if someone hadn't showed up."

Thank goodness I decided to include the image of Bay in that daydream. I wanted him to be there so that he could go riding with you." Sander explained to Lux the reason for Bay's presence in his daydream for her. Then he quickly wrote down his final observations into his journal before putting it away.
Wrapping the blankets tightly around her, he looked down at the young puffer. "Do you want me to continue with the story?" he asked her.

Aww, there was no need for him to apologize to her! She was perfectly fine now, and besides it had been only a dream anyway. "It's fine, though I was surprised to see Bay... Happy surprised since he saved me." Laughing, she hugged him back. "I would love to hear more of your story." The horse drama had driven it out of her mind, but now she was curious again as to what happened with the Winchesters. "Can I have a non-tampered-with sandwich first, though?" More laughing as she thought she did not want to go through that particular daydream again.Too much terror for her to go through twice!
Sophie walked into the Common Room with a package of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. That was actually one of the few sweets she didn't mind eating every once in a while, hence she had one package. Anyhow, that could work!
Besides, she could even try something more... complex. Teehee!!
The seventh year sat by the window and spread all of the beans on the small side-table. She pulled out her wand and stared at the colourful beans for a little, considering whether she should use a different daydream in each or... maybe even go further. She had done some further reading on the Daydream Charm and was excited to try out something more difficult.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Inner flailage!!!
"Okay." Sophie had to bring herself back from hyperland and she nodded firmly as she held her wand at the ready. "One bean at a time... Sentio Somnium." The badger circled her wand around a single bean as she imagined a beeeautiful and flowery landscape and watched as a pale purple string of light appeared and then disappeared as if being absorbed by the bean. Huh... interesting! "Sentio Somnium." And she did the exact same thing as before... and watched the purple light. Beautiful!
After doing the same thing to a couple more Bertie Bott's beans, Sophie stopped and pondered about... things. Would it be wise to use the variation the had read about? The girl bit her lower lip and considered the option for a full minute. Well, she knew there was no way she would kill whoever tried the beans. She was confident about her Charm skills and... heck, she was ready to try it! Brilliant then! "Sentio Somnium Ipse." The girl said firmly, doing the same wand movement as before. The different things this time was that Sophie was looking a lot more serious now and the purple light seemed a bit more intense. The girl watched as the bean absorbed said light and stared at the bean intently. EEEEEP! She was excited about this now!!! She couldn't WAIT to see people's reaction to this one particular bean!
But wait. Maybe she would do that to more beans just so that there would be more chances that people would take those with the variation of the Charm. Actually.....
Sophie started circling all of the remaining beans using the variation of the spell and, in fact, cast Finite on the ones she had cast the regular version of it and used the variation on those as well. There!! Brilliant!!
She put them all back in the box again and thought how brilliant it would be to do what professor Fuller had done and enchant a door frame or something like that. He did mention it was also advanced magic, didn't he? SHE WANTED TO TRY THAT!!!

Leah had a long and tiring day. Her Charms lesson was quite fun, but she did not manage to perform her Daydream Charm. She sank into an armchair near the fire. She had always known that she was no good at spells, but thought that she would improve somehow at Hogwarts. She was wrong.
There was one spell Leah was good at, though. She used this whenever she was feeling down, just like right now. The girl pulled out a diary from her bag. It was blank, nothing written on it at all. She then picked up her wand, tapped a page three times and muttered, "Aparecium!"
Messy writing started revealing on the page. It was a diary, dated December 15th. Leah liked reading her old diaries entries, it was like looking at others' life. When she finished, she fished out her quill and invisible ink bottle and started writing on a new page.
Kaiden was sitting quietly in one of the chairs in the common room, when suddenly and idea struck him. Hopping up, he scrambled down the hall to his dorm room. He opened his trunk and searched through it. Where was that thing? Laying down on his stomach he looked under the bed. There it was! Pulling it out, he hurried back to the seat he had been sitting in. There, he strummed his ukulele, working on getting it to sound right. This was going to take some time.

Ella sat cross-legged on the floor with a small thing of Faience clay, her wand, and her notes from class. The clay was set down on some paper she'd recycled from an old Daily Prophet and she was currently looking from it to her notebook, trying to figure out what shape it was she was going to mold. She wasn't exactly a sculptor so nothing too ornate, that was a given.
Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.
Maybe a turtle. The shape wouldn't be too hard to create and turtles had shells for protective purposes. Given her symbol had to do with protecting its wearer, made sense for it to go on such an amulet. Awesome, now she had a plan. Hopefully her hands wouldn't be aching too much so that she could actually put this plan into action. Hopefully.

Stupid old bones. Grumble! Grumble!
What are the odds? Lottie was actually on her way to the dorm to work on this... amulet of sorts? Homework, yes. But something kept her from her path and she joined Ella on the floor relatively quickly. They've worked together before, this shouldn't be too much of an issue, right?
"Mind if I join you?" It was rather late for the question, seeing as Lottie was already sitting close to the Head Girl, but oh well. "I was on my way to work on this, actually," she added, gesturing to her own Faience clay that had just been taken from McCormack's office. With his permission, of course, it wasn't that kind of taken. Never.
Lotus was probably not going to get too creative with the shaping, she'll try and keep it simple. The only experience she had with this came from Runes and we all know how much of a perfectionist she could be while shaping clay and with anything, quite frankly, so... simple it is.
Her notes were now in sight, seems like she was definitely staying, then. "I quite like Professor McCormack's approach to lessons, don't you?" Someone was feeling like talking today.

Ella had just picked up the clay and was slowly kneading it when Lottie joined her. Joined before asking, mind you. Not that the Head Girl minded or anything, they were past that now. She simply nodded her head in consent and smiled a little before looking back down at her clay. The kneading hurt considerably but she was determined to mold a clean looking amulet so she wasn't going to let a little pain put a stop to that.
Next came the smoothing, gently and with her thumbs, she began to smooth it out so that she could be begin shaping the circle. She'd add the smaller parts of the turtle once that was sorted. The eighteen year old was only vaguely aware of what Lottie was doing until the younger badger Hogwartian spoke and only then did she pause to look up. McCormack's approach to lessons? Hm.
"Yeah, I like discussion-based lessons well enough. Plus the topics have been really interesting. Good preparation for uni too, I s'pose." By this point, she'd continued on with her shaping, having gotten the general circular shape for the shell molded. "But I like the practical parts of lessons best. I learn better when it's hands-on." Not that Lottie had asked but it was the truth.
Starting in on the head of the turtle, Ella pinched at the clay until she got enough and then shaped that bit into a half circle. "Think we'll get these back after they're graded?" Just a thought. She was considering giving it to someone as a gift if they would be returned.

Time to get started, then. Or not so much because she was looking at Ella and her work instead of doing her own. This only lasted for a minute or so before she took her own clay and worked on her assignment.
The amount of clay used was almost the size of a knut, well, it was a little ball the size of a knut, like the one she'd done for Aidan years ago. However, she took more clay and did another ball. While she knew this shape was merely circular once she squishes the round clay, she wanted to try something, so she was making two circular shapes. Currently squishing, though, and making sure the edges are as perfect as possible.
Calming, this was.
Discussion-based lessons, yup, but most importantly, "You know where you're going after Hogwarts?" Ella did mention uni, soooo... was she going to one? Lottie was genuinely curious. "Understandable." Practice makes perfect, remember? History didn't have plenty of practicals, though.
"Don't really know. Probably, because I doubt McCormack is interested in keeping a bunch of 'amulets', yeah?" She couldn't recall if he'd said something about this in the lesson, so she honestly had no idea.
And the edges seemed perfect enough. Looked like coins, only slightly bigger than a knut.

Smooth edges indeed.
Ella smoothed the edges on her own amulet absently as she listened to Lottie, a little surprised she was interested in the Head Girl's post-Hogwarts plans. Maybe she was just being polite? "Hoping to go to Edinburgh for Magizoology. That's the plan right now, anyway." It was still relatively early in the term so things could change still, y'know? And yes, practice did make perfect. History of Magic had never been a favorite precisely because of how little she was able to put into practice what they learned.
Legs now. Ella pinched at the clay at four points around her circle, giving herself some excess to shape into each little turtle leg. She was actually pretty pleased with how it was turning out considering her hands were aching from the constant movement. Maybe she'd stick them in some ice water or something after this. Or was heat supposed to help joint problems? Oh gosh, now she'd need to return to the library to research this. "You're probably right." Which meant there was a certain quidditch playing badger who would be receiving this before the end of term.
"Are you making anything specific?" Shape-wise that is. Ella was nearly done with her own amulet, all that was left being the tiny little tail. Then a bit more smoothing on her part around the edges and she'd be ready to harden the clay.

Maybe she was actually being curious. There's no hidden agenda here. "Oh, that's nice." Animals/creatures, then? Made sense for Ella, same as it did for this other person she was reminded of thanks to that. That was Ella's plan. "Well, good luck." Genuine good luck and all. Lottie just gave Ella a bit more than the blonde could ask for, out of things coming from Lottie, that is. But still.
She asked nothing else in regards to the future, seeing as it could change so quickly...
That was her thought as she remembered what Ella looked like when they did the Transfiguration homework, and ironically, the Head Girl was sort of transfigured into an old lady for this one. Though perhaps she wasn't an old lady, really, but there were some visible effects that connected her to old age. Also ironic that this was HISTORY homework. Of amulets and ancient times.
Well, what do you know? Lottie was done with the clay. "I may have an idea once the symbol is carved in it, but that can be added if we're allowed to keep it. If not, then this coin look-a-like will suffice." Look-a-like because it was almost like a knut, only thicker. "But this is the shape, nothing fancy, just simple." Simple but perfect.
And with her wand pointed at the clay, the hardening charm was put to effect, "Duro." DONE. The charm was repeated for the other piece of clay. Hard as a rock. Both of them. Rock, not a stone, because Aidan Stone.
Now she could carve the symbol and she'd be done for real.
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
"Thank you." For the well wishes. Ella appreciated it and while she had her doubts, she bit back the urge to say she'd need it, the luck. She was supposed to be practicing that confidence thing, yeah? ...Yeah.
The clay turtle was now done and Ella ran a thumb along the shell part absently while she tried to remember what she'd done with her wand. She wore a confused expression as she glanced down at the newspaper, brow furrowed. She'd had it before, right? The Head Girl was still looking when Lottie spoke up again, answering the question Ella had asked.
"Simple can be good." To each his/her own, right? Besides, the symbol itself would probably be design enough, assuming Lottie would take just as much time carving i-OH!
Her wand. She found her wand! Not that it had ever been lost, not really. It was exactly where she'd left it when she started the molding process and Ella felt silly for ever panicking over the sudden 'disappearance.' "Duro." There, now her clay was hardened as well. Now to do some carving.
She was using the Egyptian symbol Sa, useful for protective purposes. The shape wasn't entirely difficult to make which was beneficial considering she wasn't sure how steady her hand would be. She was definitely going to try her best. "I'm assuming this works the same way it does with runes? Saying Intaglio and then the symbol name?" She was more thinking out loud but any kind of confirmation from Lottie would be appreciated.

Sure, no problem. Lottie just smiled and nodded the Head Girl's way, making sure her reaction was noticed. Really, the best of luck.
Needless to say, the clay turtle Ella was making reminded her of Clover. And then of Mags, who was now gone. The closest pet she could have right now wasn't even hers. She felt alone somehow, it was weird not having to take care of a little animal every day. So, without further ado, she tore her eyes away from the turtle. Thanks for reminding us, Ella.
The irony of it all was that the symbol she was gonna be carving was the Ankh. Eternal life. Immortality. Rather ironic considering that Ella just reminded her how things aren't permanent. She was still going to carve it, though, for 'Lotus The Strong Immortal Wisteria' reasons. Made sense. And made her smile, so, all good.
"I believe so, because when we carve runes we're focusing on its energy and what it represents, this ought to be similar. It is with intent that you're actually summoning its power, sort of." The wand doesn't make the wizard, it comes from within. So focus, Ella. INTENT. This was something Lottie didn't have a problem with, unless we're talking about Astronomy, then that's different depending on what's being taught. Immortality. Right. It was also a protection from darkness and death, so, this is what she had in mind when she pointed her wand at one of her shapes and performed Intaglio on it. "Intaglio.... Ankh, Ankh, Ankh...," it was almost in a whisper that she said this words. That didn't mean the intent wasn't strong.
There it was, though, a perfect symbol. Ankh.
"Done." For some reason, she was slightly tired. Kinda wanted Stella with her. She knew where to find that kneazle, though.

The turtle reminded Ella of her own pet turtle so no, not sorry for making it. Besides, the blonde was unaware of Lottie's situation with Mags and also that she'd been watching her work so she simply continued on, unaware. She would have offered hugs or something had she known, though. She didn't like the idea of losing a pet so yeah, if she knew there would have been words about it. Kind words.
"Yeah, I figured as much. Thanks." For confirming. And yes, intent, she knew. And so the eighteen year old focused all of her energy on thinking of Sa and protection as she began to use her wand to make the shape of the Egyptian symbol. "Intaglio Sa...sa...sa....sa...sa....sa..." She worked carefully, focusing so that the symbol was neat and near perfect despite sore hands. When she was done, she blew on the clay and admired the finished product. Not bad at all.
"Me too." She smiled from her amulet to the younger girl and then placed the turtle gently down. "Looks nice." Lottie's work. She'd done well. And now that they were finished, Ella was going to get something to eat. She carefully gathered her things, making sure not to disturb any of the Hogwartian's in the process. Then she scooped them up and slowly stood.
"I'm gonna put these away and grab something to eat but it was good working with you...again." She meant it.

Dylan entered the common room, holding Ginger in his arms. She looked terribly bored cooped up in the dorm so he decided to take her out to the common room. Taking a seat on one of the empty chairs, he set her down on the ground. The kitten stretched her front legs and yawned, then glanced around herself and began sniffing about. She seemed happy to be let out and get a little stretch. Smiling, Dylan leaned back and watched her.

OHMYGOSHKITTEN!!!
Lux practically had stars in her eyes as she watched the little fur ball playing on the floor in the common room. She was so distracted standing there and watching, it took her a few minutes to even see Dylan.

Haaaaai, Dylan.
HAAAAAAI, LITTLE FLUFF BALL KITTEN. *_______*
Dylan noticed a certain someone watching Ginger and he chuckled, realizing it was Lux. Standing from his chair and scooping the kitten up, he made his way closer to her and smiled, holding Ginger out towards her. "This is Ginger!" he said with a smile. He had told her about her at the owerly, hadn't he? "Go on, she's real sweet." he added with a nod.

Starry look still in her eyes, Lux reached out and started petting the little kitten. Gosh, she was so cute and the girl could not with this little ball of softness.
"Hello, Ginger." Can I keep you in my pocket forever? "And hello, Dyan." Beam.

Dylan grinned as Lux greeted him and he gave her a small wave. "I had been worried you hadn't noticed me," he teased with a laugh, watching as Ginger rubbed her head against his friend's cheek. He smiled. "She seems to really like you!" he then pointed out. It was true. The little kitten was purring and everything.

Giggle. Dylan was funny.
"It was hard to, but I finally did," Lux teased her friend back as she kept petting Ginger. Yes, the kitten definitely seemed to like her, she could see what he meant. Happily, she kept petting the little purring ball of fluff. "I really like you too. And I also like your owner." Mmhmm. Dylan was so nice.
"How have you been? Getting up to any trouble lately?" Heh.

Dylan laughed as she teased him back. He smiled, continuing to watch them and he beamed when she said she told Ginger that she liked him as well. "Well, thanks!" he said with a chuckle. "I quite like you too." he gave a nod. Lux was a pretty cool person
"Oh, of course!" he answered her question jokingly. "All sorts. And what about you?" he asked.
