Located down one end of the first floor corridor is the History of Magic classroom. It is simply an ordinary classroom, like one would expect, student desks neatly lined up in rows with the professor's desk located in the front of the room with a blackboard behind it.
Today's lesson is held late afternoon in the middle of autumn, the sun beginning to hang low in the sky with rays of light filtering in through the classroom windows. Professor McCormack is found leaning against the side of his desk, waiting for his students to arrive. Come in and take a seat, there are no assigned ones here yet. But Professor McCormack has taken a note from one of his old mentors as he knows the name of exactly one student, so please follow the instructions on the board.

The moment the hat was flipped off of his head and had fallen to the ground, Kevin had shrieked and quickly grabbed hold of the hat. "DON'T do that!" he said, his different eye colors were glaring at the older Gryffindor as he placed the hat on top of his hair , hoping that no one had seen it.
He continued to glare at Bart and then frowned before shaking his head. "I don't know okay?! I woke up like this... .you really think its an age prank cause its not funny!" Gwen's mom was a huge history fan, and Gwen had grown up hearing lectures of the history of things everywhere she went. Go to the 9/11 memorial? Huge history lesson on the Twin Towers, when they were built, when they fell and when America got the bad guys. Lecture on subsequent controversy over whether or not to build on the site, and every important thing that had ever happened on those grounds. Mt Rushmore? Why each president was chosen and the great deeds of each of them and the building of the thing.
Not that Gwen minded history, she was just pretty sick of it. She stepped into the classroom getting ready for what was going to be the most boring class and found a seat, nodding toward the professor in acknowledgement. Name tags? She was supposed to write on a name tag. Okay, not a problem.

Gwen stared at the paper in horror. It wasn't like she'd written in pencil, and she'd misspelled her own name. She crumpled it quickly, getting wet ink on her hands and leaned over and snagged the blank paper from the still-empty desk beside her. Focusing this time she carefully spelled out her name.

She capped the ink and set down her quill cursing her stupid dyslexia. She knew how to spell her own name, she'd been doing it since before Kindergarten. She looked around hoping nobody had seen that, and shoved the offending paper into her backpack. She would throw it out when she got the chance.

She was therefore relieved when her hand made contact with whatever it was. Her fingers closed gently around the object, only then noticing that it was a hand. It took her a moment after that to realise that hands were attached to bodies. A body which was speaking to her.
At that point Ana made an attempt to turn her head towards the person. "Hi Terry," Ana murmured back, giving him a tired smile when she recognised him. "I...don't actually know," Ana replied honestly, deciding against lying when it would be a pointless endeavour, stifling another yawn with her free hand, her brain not even registering that she hadn't let go of her fellow Slytherin yet. Who, somewhat unfairly, looked wide eyed and bushy tailed. Well, he looked like he'd had a decent amount of sleep at least.
It took Ana a little while to acknowledge that Terry was waving his hand directly in front of her face. He continued, until she reacted to his greeting. But what she did next was a little unexpected. She physically took hold of his hand and didn't let go.
Umm.. This was a little bit odd.
He tilted his head a little to the side and raised his brow. Was she going to answer his question. His face fell into a small frown when her response was a little vague. "You look exhausted. Did you not sleep at all last night?" he asked, his voice lowered so as to not attract too much attention. Terry had been out straight away, he was amazed he even woke up this morning. He was an extremely heavy sleeper sometimes, Hogwarts could be burning down and he wouldn't realise.

Schuyler walked into the classroom and gave a polite smile towards the man. Then her eyes trailed behind him, to the blackboard. Take a seat and write your name on the tag. Easy enough. So, she found a seat, dropped her bag, and wrote her name on the tag in neat, Palmer-method script.

Why was it they ALWAYS seemed to have a new professor in this class? Wasn't it Defense that was meant to be cursed? Mo considered whether curses could transfer as he entered the classroom and looked for the closest seat. His legs ached today, yet another delightful repercussion of too much time on the pitch, and he wanted to just SIT already.
The room was a bit hysterical, to be honest, and Mo glowered from the safety of his new seat as he scribbled his name on a tag. Why was everyone so NOISY this early in the morning? Didn't they care about his nerves?

Ben had nearly forgotten that they had History of Magic after lunch, his books left upstairs in his dorm. As such he had had to trek up all the stairs just to retrieve them and return back down to the first floor. He'd never do that again for sure, making a mental note to keep better track of the schedule of his day. No need to retrace his steps so much especially since Gryffindor tower was so far away from everything else or so it seemed sometimes.
As he made his way back down, his way was slow going. The Gryffindor chalked it up to being tired from all his walking. It certainly made sense. Reaching the right door, he stepped inside the classroom glad to see he had still made it on time. "Good afternoon, professor," he greeted politely as he made his way towards a seat. seeing the paper on the desk and the note on the board, Ben sat down and obeyed, writing out a nametag for himself.

Lux was worried that she would be late for this lesson as she had been busy eating in the Great Hall and had lost track of time. Walking quickly, she reached the classroom and slowed down as she walked through the door. Scanning the room, she found an empty desk and took a seat. "Hello, Professor!" Noticing the instructions on the board, she wrote her name on the tag he had provided:
She wasn't late, was she? Brynn had not yet visited this part of the castle, simply breezing by the first floor on her way to and from the Great Hall and wasn't exactly sure where to go. She had almost gone to the Muggle Studies classroom until she saw a couple students enter another room and the classroom she was heading into had been empty. She decided to follow them hoping it was the right place.
The diminutive redhead walked in, her brown eyes taking in her surroundings, noting that the class was nearly full, before landing on the man at the front of the room. "Hello professor," she said quietly, before giving him a shy smile and turning to look for a seat. Oh.. these ones had those nametags on them, were they assigned like in Ancient Runes? It didn't appear so as they all looked blank and she chose one near the door. Glancing up at the board she saw the instructions she had been expecting and wrote her name neatly on the nametag.

Not one of Kace's favorites but at least he was here wasn't he? As he came into the classroom, he realized he was kind of sleepy. The classroom was kind of warm from the sunshine leaking through the windows. As he was looking for his desk, he noticed the professor was there. He gave him a nod and wave and said, "Hey Professor!"
Then he sat down and saw the blackboard. He needed to write a name tag huh? He smirked but was playing fair this time. He wrote...

UGH. This class was sooooo boring. Why did they need history? History was stupid and not going to help them anymore so why even bother? Still, he kind of NEEDED to take it to be an Auror and be successful and cool, right? So he drank a big cup of tea, grabbed his book and headed to the room to deal with it for the next hour or so.
Alright, new professor. Cool. He grabbed his quill and wrote himself a nametag.

Bri was curious about this class, as a Muggleborn, she didn't know anything about the History of Magic. So she entered the class with more excitement, than she normally world for a history class. She smiled ad the professor before saying "Hello Professor, My name is Bri Granger." She, then picked an empty seat, and sat down. She took the name tag and wrote.
Hiss!Roar!Growl!Caw! | Hermione's Double | The Little Three | Alecate
History of Magic. Was there even much to this class? Wasn't history just...well, history? It was all in the past, so what did it all matter now? Sophie thought about this as she made her way from the dungeons to the classroom. This was another class with a new professor. They had a lot of those lately, it seemed.
Sophie entered the room and passed by the professor as she made her way to a desk...BY CALEB! Haiii, brother!
"Hello, Professor," she said, deciding to greet the new guy, as well. She took her seat and just waited quietly for class to begin.
Ana was going to reassure Terry that she had in fact got some sleep last night, but as she thought about it more she really couldn't recall. She knew that she'd attempted to get to sleep at night but she kept having to get up to pee. Which was something she was determined to not let slip out of her mouth, because it would be embarrassing, and then she couldn't get into a deep sleep. She thought she might have dozed for a bit before she was woken up by her roommates.
"Not very well for the past week," she finally admitted in a whisper, not wishing for anyone beside Terry to hear her. She might already be looking exhausted for everyone to see but that didn't mean everyone needed to know that she wasn't sleeping right. Was anyone else having these problems? Maybe she should go see Tillstorm after class and see if she could get some Pepper Up Potion to keep her more alert in classes.
As it was she was clearly losing her edge. Ana's gaze had drifted away from Terry's face to their hands while she talked and yet it still took her longer than she should to realise she was holding his hand and that it was probably weird. Flushing slightly Ana attempted to quickly let go of his hand, it ended up being more of a slow motion, before placing her hand back on her desk where it was safe, nearly knocking her ink pot over as she did so. That...probably wouldn't have been good. "Sorry," Ana whispered as she looked back up at him, gesturing slightly towards his hand so he would know that she was sorry for being strange. She normally didn't just randomly grab hold of peoples hands. Promise.
And another new professor! Er... sort of. He was technically an interim, or a substitute, or whatever you'd like to call him, but hey, that still meant new professor! Which was always exciting. Adrienne hadn't had any particular attachment to the previous one, either, so it's not like she missed him. In fact, she'd found him strikingly odd and not particularly interesting.
She plopped down into a seat out of everybody's way and scrawled her name messily onto the nametag.
Sophie enjoyed the subject of History of Magic plenty well, but she was suspicious of the new professor for it, as she was about any new professor. All last term she was very careful to judge each one's character - they all had to earn her trust, and it was unusual for any to earn it as quickly as Flamsteed and Culloden had. The fellow at the front of the history classroom seemed to be a pleasant enough face, and the Ravenclaw offered him a smile. Giving him the benefit of the doubt and all.
"Good afternoon, professor," she greeted before surveying the mostly-filled classroom - there was Mo, Alec, Ella, Bart, Cat, Tag, Brynn... and Tobes, who seemed to be kind of glum, from what she could tell. Curious, she hurried to slip into the empty seat near him before anyone else got there, and gave him a questioning, concerned look, but didn't say anything. Was he okay? Was he gonna vom? Or was he mad? Was he going to blow up at someone? She wasn't sure, but Sophie slipped a self-inking quill from her bag and scribbled Sophie Brown on the tag on her desk, flipping it up so the professor could see.

Mitchell's least favorite class was history. It was just so... historical. It was like talking to someone's really old, really monotone grandpa. It really didn't appeal to him.
But here he was anyway. Pretending to be a good student. He nodded a greeting at the Professor as he passed.
He then took a random seat and glanced up at the board. Names. He scribbled his down on the parchment and waited for the lesson to begin.

History of Magic. This would test the seventh year's memory, she was horrible at History of Magic, it was just her memory skills that needed work. Adeline walked into the History of Magic classroom, "Good Afternoon, Professor." she looked around for a place to sit, Adeline found a free seat and sat down. She grabbed the tag and wrote her name down on it.
Name Tag: Adeline Holiday.

History. It Wasn't this Seventh years best subject. To many dates and people to remember. But here he was anyway. Going to the History of Magic lesson. At least he didn't have to complain about walking so far for the lesson.
He walked into the classroom. Nodding to the professor "Hello, Professor." He strutted off toward the back of the room. He passed right by Adeline without even looking at her. He couldn't it was still to fresh and too hard to do. He took a seat without a word. He took the name tag and wrote his name down
Dragging herself toward the History of Magic classroom, Bev yawned. It'd been a tough night, what with that stupid nightmare. After tossing and turning she'd given up on sleep and read until her dorm mates stirred. At first, she thought she'd be fine. It wasn't the first time it happened, but now, she was feeling it.
Crud.
Setting her stuff on a desk, she flopped down, but not before sending the professor a nod for a greeting and maybe even a tiny, sleepy grin. Hi.
Writing her name on the name tag provided, she blinked at it. Yeah. It was spelled correctly.
Christmas entered the class and took a seat at a free table and put her name on the name tag "Christmas Goldman" Christmas waited for the lesson to start
Ah, first student of the day. And she happened to be a quiet one. Braith simply gave her an acknowledging nod as he watched her take her seat, glad to see her following his instructions, then turned his eyes back to the door again when he saw another student arriving.

She sat still for another few moments before her bleary eyes, which seemed to be operating at less than spectacular levels lately finally made out the words written on the board. Another class with name tags? Barely suppressing a sigh Ana pulled the name tag towards her and slowly wrote her name on it.

Name tag done she placed it at the front of her desk before arranging her quills and parchment, yawning almost uncontrollably and rubbing at her eyes to get rid of the water. Maybe she would need to suck it up and ask for someone to take her to the nurse at some point...
This student at least greeted him, though his welcoming smile turned slightly bemused at her words. “Good afternoon,” he gently corrected her with a still curious smile, returning her greeting. Was she yawning? The girl looked like she had pulled an all-nighter and was starting to crash. Not like he had class first thing in the morning.
McCormack had started to turn his eyes away as the apparently exhausted teenager sat down to glance at the doorway again when he heard a thud. His eyes snapped back over to the seated girl, lowering to the textbook on the floor. The one for his class. Not picking it up anytime soon..? He watched her carefully for another moment, wondering if a cup of coffee before class would have been beneficial to her, then gave her a disarming smile. ”I’d appreciate it if you’d pick that up. You’ll need it today.” Unless of course she already had an eidetic memory, though he still didn’t need classroom materials tossed about on the floor.

She was actually one of the first ones here and that was weird considering how long it took hr to do anything nowadays. She spotted the professor and gave him a nod. "Hello professor." She went and found a seat and sat down slowly. What was really going on?
As more students began entering, Braith again turned his attention towards the door to greet those that came in. “Hello,” he smiled at the Slytherin girl as she acknowledged him first, though his smile soon faltered to a curious expression as he watched her drag herself to a seat. Another sleep-deprived student?

Braith watched the next student to come in rather curiously. Another one with a yawn, even before she heard his lecture. ”Good afternoon, dear,” he said, his smile not as bright as before as his mind wandered, but still welcoming nonetheless. She certainly was acting like it was late in the evening though, wasn’t she? What was with these kids? They were acting like they had just rolled out of bed or were having one of those late night Astronomy lessons. Hmm. Maybe they had one the night before and didn’t get enough sleep. He’d make a mental note to speak with Flamsteed after class about coordinating their schedules so students weren’t so tired in his class. History of Magic already had a bad rap as it was for being coma-inducing. He didn’t need to start off the term this way.

There. Now could he doze a bit before the lesson got started?
McCormack smiled a bit wider at the young Hufflepuff boy as he walked in. At least this kid wasn’t yawning already. ”Good afternoon,” he nodded at the boy, though he couldn’t help but to notice how slowly he was walking. Weren’t kids supposed to be full of energy?

Braith lifted his eyes again as another boy walked in, returning his quick smile. ”Hello,” he responded in kind, watching for a moment as he found a seat. No yawning or dragging himself to his seat, that was somewhat more encouraging.

Half sliding in just for the fun of it he looked at the professor. Funny looking dude now wasn't he. "Sup Professor" He grinned at the man and turned to it fellow classmates. Were they all taking sleeping potions or something. As he headed to find a see he stopped near the head boy, "Hey Wade's boyfriend ever hear of hair removal charms or even a muggle razor?" He did move closer though, "Dude if that's from a potion want to share? I could have some fun with that." It's exactly what he needed for his girls dorm prank he wanted to pull. Sigh. There was a reason that Braith typically taught at the University level instead of working with younger kids. And that was about to present itself. The faint smile the History of Magic professor wore when the young boy walked through the door soon faded into a smirk at the boy’s words. He shot the boy a very unimpressed look as he spoke. “Young man, if you wish to keep something not normally allowed in class then I suggest you ask permission, not tell me what you are or are not going to do.” Honestly, the boy wearing the cap in class actually wouldn’t have bothered him, but his tone certainly did. “That’s two points from Gryffindor for your disrespect.” Seriously, he was lucky it wasn’t more. Braith considered himself a fairly laid back guy, but one thing he did not tolerate was disrespect from children. “Now, unless you’d like your hat to have a permanent seat on my desk, then I suggest you come back up here and try that again.” And he’d better get it right this time.
Waiting for the boy to make the right choice, Braith turned to the next young boy to walk through the door. Mhm, he had just about the right amount of energy the man would expect to come from a kid his age. ”Sup dude,” he returned the greeting with a crooked grin of his own. He didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to where the boy went to sit, instead turning his eyes back to the doorway to view a few more students wandering in, until he heard a whole lot of shouting.
Of course it involved the rude boy and that flipping hat. He turned sharply towards the two boys, observing for only a moment before raising his hand in a nonverbal gesture to stop. “Alright, alright!”he began, his voice more elevated than usual. “That is enough. You, sit there. And you, sit there.” He pointed out a seat at the very front corner on one side of the room for Kevin and one at the very front corner on the other side of the room for the other boy who had yet to fill out his name tag (Bart). He did not need any behavioral issues in class today. Hopefully they would end now before more serious action needed to be taken. He hated having to be strict but he wasn’t having such a ruckus when he needed to teach. And Kevin had about 30 seconds to ask permission or the hat was gone.

Nice to see you again,” he greeted the Gryffindor prefect with a smile, which faltered slightly seeing how slowly she was dragging herself. Another sleep-deprived student or just not wanting to be here? He watched her curiously as she went to find a seat, then shook his head slightly. ”No, that’s fine,” he said in regards to her question. ”Not injured, I hope?” Did the girl play Quidditch? Just WAIT till he told Wade about this.
Readjusting his grip on his bag, the boy entered the classroom and took a look around. Nothing weird? Awesome. But then again, this was History of Magic. Nothing weird could be brought in, right? Right. And the professor? "Hello Professor!" he said, giving the man a smile and a nod.
Turning away from the man, Alec headed off towards an empty seat near the middle of the classroom and sat down slowly. His usual writing supplies were set out onto the desk and it was only after his bag was dropped to the floor beneath his desk that the boy's eyes found the board. Nametag? Okay. Quill... ink... scribble...
Once that was done, he set his quill down and sat back. Comfortable, this was. It was good to be sitting down again.
He gave the next boy to walk in a friendly smile as he approached. Oh, this was the Head Boy, was he not? [b}”Hello,”[/b} he returned the greeting in kind, mirroring the boy’s smile and nod before the Head Boy went to find his own seat.

O__O Hair problems were the WORST. She needed to get a handle on anything stressing her out before another one popped up or worse, her entire head started being covered in them. Just...no. The eighteen year old wandered into the classroom, the usual smile missing from her face. She did force one when she saw the new professor, though. She needed to make a good impression even if she was dealing with the hair crisis of the century. "Hello, Professor."
And then the blonde slowly made her way over to a seat by Delilah, needing to surround herself with good hair vibes at the moment. "Hey." The fellow blonde badger got a faint smile and a finger wiggle in greeting.
Oh, name tag.
Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.
And the Head Girl to walk in directly after. Braith gave her a welcoming smile as she greeted him. ”Hello,” he returned, glancing her way as she went to sit down. It really wasn’t all that encouraging that so many students seemed so glum. What had their previous lessons been like?

Ian walked in and nodded to the professor. He looked to the board to see if their were instructions and noted there were. He went and selected a seat close to the rear, in the middle trying to be non-descript.
He picked up the name tag and quill and scribbled out his name:
He looked around to see who else was around and he recognized some of the faces as he settled his desk in front of him.
Braith eyed the boy carefully as he walked in returning his nod. It was alright as far as greetings went, he supposed, not that he was blatantly rude, but he was going to get as good as he gave. Good, following instructions was always appreciated and he nodded his approval to Ian as he filled out his name tag.

Ruhing in the door behind ome others, he glanced at the board and read it quickly picking a seat in the second row he quickly jotted down his name in his sloppy handwriting

This one got something of a raised eyebrow. No greeting at all, hmm? He didn’t care all that much, though he did not the boy’s supposed enthusiasm as he came in. That was a good sign.

He really should have put his real name. But it was name tags after all.
Braith looked up to see the Ravenclaw prefect. ”Hello,” he returned the greeting, giving the boy a welcoming smile and nod. He glanced over at the boy as he sat down, his eyes falling on the name tag at his desk. Starfish. Right. He did know that McCormack possessed a class roster and these name tags were simply to help match up names with faces? He knew for certain there was no “Starfish” on his roster but if he didn’t want credit for his work in this class because he couldn’t properly write his name down, that wasn’t Braith’s problem.

Nice to see such a good showing for his first class. He gave a smile to the next person to come in and greet him. [b]”Good afternoon,”[b] he smiled at the girl, then gave her a nod as she went to take a seat.

His expression wasn't quite a frown, though, it was just that he didn't have a smile or any expression on his face at all. But he just looked so... not Toby. It was out of the ordinary, but he hadn't really taken the time to notice, what with feeling just generally out of sorts anyway.
The Hufflepuff entered the room and read the instructions on the blackboard before taking up the nearest free seat. He got out his quill and ink and printed 'Tobias Tempus' on the name tag on his desk, but found himself distracted constantly by that loud Gryffindor who had been incredibly rude in Ancient Runes and who now didn't seem to know how to shut up. By the time the Gryffindor, Bart, started practically SHOUTING, he was really grating on Toby's nerves.
Huffing air out through his nose, Tobias tried VERY HARD to ignore the kid as he turned his name tag so the professor could see it. All in all, Toby thought he was doing very well at not snapping or anything, though when he got out his textbook and set it on the desk he accidentally slammed it down a little too hard.
But no. He was calm. Very calm. He would not lose his temper at the ridiculous Gryffindor.
Not yet.
And another silent child. Braith watched the boy for a moment as he walked in and wordlessly got a seat. Alright. He wasn’t getting a greeting either, though the professor did note that the boy looked quite sullen. He’d say maybe he’d gotten up on the wrong side of the bed, but at this time of the day he should be over it by now. Nothing he was going to dwell on certainly.

Caterina Moretti. Yep, that was her. She remembered her name and that was something to be happy about.
Oh look, there was a Jeremiah sitting next to her. Hi Jeremiah. Cat smiled and wiggled her fingers at him. Her good fingers, of course.
Braith turned his focus on the polite young lady as she entered and greeted him. And he did the same, giving her a welcoming smile. ”Good afternoon.” He followed that with a nod as she turned to take her seat.

Ooh, name tags.
Emma took her seat and promptly began inscribing her name on the piece of parchment that had been provided.
Braith turned and gave the next girl to walk in a bright smile, noting her demeanor and good manners, though he did have to chuckle at her greeting. ”Good afternoon!” he returned the greeting just as enthusiastically, wondering if she perhaps slept in, throwing her internal clock off. But she seemed positive about class and that was what was important.

Ridiculous. Yet remarkably true.
So, she took a seat next to her best friend... who was standing, by the way, and wrote 'Miss Wisteria' on her name tag, because that's what you're supposed to call her brand-new Professor. None of that Lotus stuff from the Groundskeeper, talk about rude. Also, knee pain? Huh? Her eyes were on Lex because of this.
Remember the lock of gray hair?
And another enthusiastic girl. Braith gave her his friendly crooked grin as came in and cheerily greeted him. ”And good afternoon to you as well,” he returned just as earnestly in return, noting that she took a seat next to Miss Cambridge and glanced at her tag as well. Miss Wisteria? That would do just fine as he had her first name on the roster anyway, though he did find it remotely amusing that she’d fill it out in that manner. And he typically addressed his students by their title and surname anyway.

Taking a seat, somewhere in the back, Tag got out his quill and wrote
Name tag: Taggart Kildare
Hehe. The leprechaun wanted to see if the Professor would call him as Taggart
No greeting from this one either, simply a look. Braith gave him an unimpressed look in return, not dwelling much on the lack of decorum. If the boy couldn’t be bothered, Braith wouldn’t be going out of his way to make him feel welcome either. As long as he pulled his weight in class, he didn’t give a second thought about it.

The blond stepped inside the classroom and her eyes searched for the professor. Was this one going to stick around for another year or nope? She hoped he was someone whom she'd not mind. The former Professor wasn't bad as she recalls.
"Good afternoon, sir," She greeted the man on her way to one of the seats. She slipped in and dropped her bag next to her. Noticing Lex, she wondered why the lioness was standing to get a better view perhaps? She doubted that since Lex was more likely to sleep through history than to care for view. And that was something Cassia was gonna help with since she got a O. Did anyone not know of that piece of information? She was going to take tutoring seriously, whether Lex had been kidding or not.
Oh and name tag, all taken care of.
See, it wasn’t that hard to be polite. The Slytherin got a welcoming smile as she greeted McCormack. ”Good afternoon to you too,” he responded in return giving her a nod as she looked for a seat. She actually looked happy to be here which made his job slightly easier.

Briath glanced over at the young Ravenclaw as she entered as well, giving her a nod in return. Shy perhaps? Sometimes the youngest ones were. He watched her for a moment as she seemed to have trouble with the name tag, then gave her a nod and encouraging smile as she seemed to set things straight.

Another quiet student, though that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Braith returned the girl’s polite smile watching for a moment as she selected a seat, then he turned back to the doorway again.

Very last one, this boy just made it in the nick of time, but Braith still gave him a welcoming smile as he walked in and greeted him. "Hello," he nodded towards him as he went to take a seat.
Alright, really starting this time. Anyone else coming in after this point would be considered late. Braith flicked his wand at the door SLAMMING it shut. Yes, that was for those students threatening to fall asleep. Time to wake up now because if they couldn’t stay alert, they would not be participating in the practical part of this lesson. It was dangerous enough as it was, he couldn’t have any careless accidents. “Good afternoon class and welcome to History of Magic!” he greeted his students enthusiastically. He loved his area of expertise and wanted to bring that passion to his subject, hoping even just one person could benefit from that. “My name is Braith McCormack and I will be your professor this term.” Will he be after that? That remained to be seen.
Sliding up from his leaning position at the side of his desk to sit at the edge of it, Braith looked out into the sea of young faces. “For today’s lesson, we are going to start off by discussing what many in our circles consider to be one of the worst moments in Wizarding history.” He paused for dramatic effect. Did they know what he was referring to? No, he wasn’t going to make them guess, just think about that statement for a moment. Once he felt his words sunk in enough, he continued. “And that would be the Salem Witch Trials. But before we talk about it, I would like to know what you already know.” As in facts. Most of them should be at least familiar with some part of the events, he thought, but it was covered in their textbooks as well if they needed a reference. “So, I’d like each of you to tell us one thing you know about the Salem Witch Trials, or even Wizarding persecution in general.” Too gruesome for the younger ones? They'll get over it.

History. Easily the most boring class ever invented......If taught by the wrong person. But Layla was keeping an open mind, since she really didn't know the professor or his teaching style. So she was keeping an open mind, for now.
Looking around the room, she could tell something was off about some of her classmates. Like, back holding and achy joint complaints. Was this becoming a thing? Pondering this, she followed the instructions on the board quickly.

And with that question, her mind slammed shut. The Salem Witch Trials had been done to death at her old school. Then, of course, it was one of the biggest events in American Wizarding history. So, probably not done as much over here. Still, booooooring. "It's now believed by some Muggle scholars that the symptoms that lead some people to believe that others were witches were actually the result of then undiscovered illnesses." Or maybe revenge by those who were actually witches, but she wasn't going to say that out loud. "The Trials are also why the International Statue of Secretcy was created and why, to this very day, we keep ourselves hidden away."

Adi had been resting his head on his arms but his eyes were wide open. He didn't want to fall asleep and then the Professor got mad at him or something. He was relieved when the man started to speak for his eyes were becoming heavy. He perked up at the subject for today's lesson.
Now, Adi didn't know a lot about the Salem Witch trials but he had something he could offer so he raised his hand. "The trials took place between 1692 and 1693.'' Was that correct? Or had he gotten the years mixed up?
The Professor probably had a list with there faces on it anyway. So fun with a name tag probably meant nothing. Or he was that lazy and needed constant reminders on peoples names. That could also be true. So class was finally starting and they were doing the Witch Trials. Nice. Nigel ran a a hand through his hair thinking about what to say. Wait was that a teeny strand of grey hair. Nope, Nigel was in denial. Anyway...should he really be the one to point out the obvious and say they were in Salem. Someone has to say it.
"They took place in Salem, Massachusetts"
There.

Ooo Lottie!! The Hogwartian looked to be in a good mood. Lex raised an eyebrow at her. When was the last time Lottie walked into a History of Magic class with a smile on her face? Scabior's days maybe? Something along those lines. It was definitely interesting to note. Lex gave a wide smile when she saw the girl's attention had turned to her. Must have heard about the knee. One less symptom to explain when she went whining to her later.
And there was Cassia too for extra help if the class got to that stage where it was a big NO. The Gryffindor could relax now...or well she would have been able to her her joints would loosen up a little. Oi vey.
She straightened a bit, putting on a smile for the Professor who'd offered her candy. "No, no injuries that I know of. It'd be tragic if I were though with Quidditch season coming up and all." It wouldn't ber very ideal.
...And this was where the questions started, yeah? Lex had been expecting them, like she always was. Only difference was he wasn't taking pictures of old people to class. This was manageable and the Gryffindor raised her hand. "I know the Muggles weren't very sharp back then. Persecuted their own kind because they couldn't tell a witch from a lamp post." Pfffft. BRILLIANT, weren't they?

SPOILER!!: KEVIN AND BART ><
SPOILER!!: MOAR Replies!!
Braith took to lightly rubbing his temples for a moment, turning his eyes back to the door. ”Good day, Miss Cambridge. He had heard they were holding tryouts not long ago.
He gave the next boy to walk in a friendly smile as he approached. Oh, this was the Head Boy, was he not? [b}”Hello,”[/b} he returned the greeting in kind, mirroring the boy’s smile and nod before the Head Boy went to find his own seat.
And the Head Girl to walk in directly after. Braith gave her a welcoming smile as she greeted him. ”Hello,” he returned, glancing her way as she went to sit down. It really wasn’t all that encouraging that so many students seemed so glum. What had their previous lessons been like?
Braith eyed the boy carefully as he walked in returning his nod. It was alright as far as greetings went, he supposed, not that he was blatantly rude, but he was going to get as good as he gave. Good, following instructions was always appreciated and he nodded his approval to Ian as he filled out his name tag.
This one got something of a raised eyebrow. No greeting at all, hmm? He didn’t care all that much, though he did not the boy’s supposed enthusiasm as he came in. That was a good sign.
Braith turned his focus on the polite young lady as she entered and greeted him. And he did the same, giving her a welcoming smile. ”Good afternoon.” He followed that with a nod as she turned to take her seat.
Braith turned his eyes towards the door again as another student walked in. An older Hufflepuff boy by the looks of it and he gave him a welcoming smile as he approached. ”Hello to you too.” He gave him a nod as he took his seat and followed the instructions.
He eyed the next girl to walk in as she yawned and took a seat. Too tired to remember her manners perhaps? At least she was following directions even if there was no customary greeting to preface it. Moving on…
Braith turned and gave the next girl to walk in a bright smile, noting her demeanor and good manners, though he did have to chuckle at her greeting. ”Good afternoon!” he returned the greeting just as enthusiastically, wondering if she perhaps slept in, throwing her internal clock off. But she seemed positive about class and that was what was important.
See, it wasn’t that hard to be polite. The Slytherin got a welcoming smile as she greeted McCormack. ”Good afternoon to you too,” he responded in return giving her a nod as she looked for a seat. She actually looked happy to be here which made his job slightly easier.
And then followed yet another student who seemed to have left his manners out in the hallway. Braith glanced over at him sitting in his seat, pleased that he was following his instructions of course, though a simple hello or even a nod wouldn’t have killed him. That’s fine, no greeting in return is all, though maybe silence was better in this case. The boy looked like he was ready to bite someone’s head off.
Braith smiled at the young boy as he entered the classroom and greeted him. ”Good afternoon,” he returned with a nod, watching as he took a seat before watching for anyone else to come in. It was getting near that time to get started.
And another welcoming smile for such a pleasant greeting from this girl. ”Hello!” he returned matching her enthusiasm, giving her an approving nod as he watched her sit and scribble her name on the tag at her desk.
Braith gave the small girl a welcoming smile as she entered, though he could barely hear her words. Another shy girl possibly, but he appreciated the effort. ”Hello, dear,” he returned the greeting, watching for a moment as she sat down, then glanced at his watch before noticing a few more students start to trickle in.
Braith gave a crooked grin to the enthusiastic boy to come in next and a sort of finger-point/salute in response to his wave. ”Hey there, kiddo,” he replied in return, matching the boy’s eager tone, then gave him a nod as he took a seat.
Braith’s eyes followed this student as he walked in and wordlessly took a seat. Eh. He was getting kind of used to the lack of social convention from kids at this point. He was about to start class anyway so no time to bother with it anyway.
Braith gave the girl a warm, welcoming smile as she walked in, pleased to see such enthusiasm for class from a young girl. ”Hello, Miss Granger.,” he began with a nod. ”Thank you for the introduction, much appreciated.” Good manners often left an impression.
McCormack gave a nod to the young Slytherin girl as she came in next in addition to a welcoming smile as she greeted him. ”Hello,” he returned, following her with his eyes as she took a seat and sat quietly. ”Don’t forget to fill out your nametag, please,” he added with an encouraging nod.
Another silent one. Braith merely nodded in her direction as she sat down to fill out her nametag. A lack of greeting begets the same. Class performance could still remain to be seen however.
Braith had a smile in return for the young Ravenclaw girl as she walked in pleasantly enough. ”Good afternoon to you as well, he said in reply to her greeting, then watched her sit down before looking at his watch again. Yep, about time to start class.
Braith was just about to shut the door when another student slipped in just in time. He returned the boy's nod with one of his own, then turned his eyes to the door again.
"Good afternoon," Braith returned the greeting of the Hufflepuff girl with a smile as she walked in, just in time. Good, she was following instructions too and he gave her an approving nod.
Ian looked up just to see the professor nod as he set up his name tag. Ian didn't seem to start off very well with some of the professors. It might help if he spoke to them when he entered, but it was still too early for him to really be warm toward people he didn't know.
As the professor asked about the Witch Trials, Ian raised his hand. Sir, some were persecuted for being red-headed or left-handed as these were out of the norm and considered to be signs of 'the devil'.
