After asking himself over and over again the same question - will I be good at Quidditch? - he was ready for the answer. Caleb dropped his book, making a loud noise since it was such a brick of a novel, and put his finger on a random part of the book. When he saw what he had picked out, his mouth dropped open. SPOILER!!: hehehe the quote WHAT? So the book didn't care about his Quidditch career? It didn't care about his LIFE? Ugh, this was so SCARLETT. "Professor! My book is sassing me," he said, raising his hand to complain to Elwood. |
Now that he had the book in his hand, Tobias slammed his eyes shut and leaned back, holding Quidditch Through the Ages between his palms with it's spine flat against the table. The question, in his own handwriting, swam behind his own eyelids, and Tobias kept repeating it and thinking it over and over in his head. Before his attention started to wander, Tobias took his hands away from the book and let it fall open on the desk and blindly pointed to a random place on one of the pages. Then he opened his eyes, ready to read his future(???) |
Bay thought of his questions… "will i do good on my OWL's?" Bay cleared his mind and let his book flip through its pages… then it stopped and Bay pointed his finger down.. looking down he read to himself. SPOILER!!: passage hmmm this was a bit hard, Bay scratched his head.. how would this relate to his question… SPOILER!!: translation Bay quickly looked away from his book… he started to feel nervous. |
So now that he had a question, albeit a vague one, Mo was ready to do the blank brain thing again. He focused on his breathing and on counting the spaces between his breaths. There was a nice quiet space he sometimes found when he was taking pictures, and Mo wondered if he could find that here today. He flipped the book up on its spine and let it fall open. Breathe in, breathe out. And Mo dropped his finger onto the page. Quote:

So they had to divine something by using the book they had brought into class. Bibliomancy...or Rhapsodomancy...or whatever they were calling it. Ben wasn't sure and at the moment he didn't really care, even as he copied it into his notes for further reference. The process was what mattered, not exactly what it was called. It could go by 'book-reading-divination' for all it really depended on the name. Regardless, the second year wondered just what kind of insight The Giving Tree could actually give him for whatever question he could come up with. Only one way to find out. The question that actually came to mind had to do with the condition him and some of the other students had found themselves inflicted with. This whole aging issue with the grey hair, bad bones and muscles and the hairy outlook for the boys. So now that he had it, Ben just had to focus all of his attention and mind space on it as the instructions said both on the board and on his parchment. The Gryffindor mulling the question over and over in his head in the process. What is up with the aging? What is up with the aging? What is up with the aging? What is up with the aging? |
SPOILER!!: Professor Tessa frowned as they were told to pick a question. One question? Could she pick just one? Hundreds flew into her mind, about her father and his studies, not to mention her own career. THen, she glanced at Sander and a whole new flood of questions entered her mind. She sighed and settled on one- career was a safe topic, right? Her big question: Will I make a Professional team at the tryouts this summer? |
Once she was sure that was the only thing in her mind, Adelaide flipped open The Fellowship of the Ring to somewhere near the middle. It was a fairly large book after all. She pointed her finger randomly at the pages and opened her eyes. Quote:
SPOILER!!: Adelaide's Parchment She sighed and set her quill down on the parchment. Addi wasn't too much to believe in Divination, but right now it was eating away at her quite a bit. Still she plastered a smile on her face so no one would know something was bothering her. So when could they move on... |
Ian wondered about the passage. Friends know where the bodies are buried... it took him some time thinking. Would he have friends... He stared off at the ceiling as he thought about the phrase. It seemed strange that this phrase came up as he asked about friends. He struggled with the phrase. |
Question...check. Focus...check. Now he had to let the book do the talking. Slipping the green-covered book from where he had stashed it off the side, Benjamin rested it on its spine momentarily before letting it go and flop open to any random page. However when he finally opened his eyes to see what his finger could point at, instead of falling on a page filled with words, it had landed on one of the blank sheets that framed the story on either end of the book. The end pages he thought they might be called for being at the end by the cover. That didn't work...had he done something wrong? The gryffindor looked over what he had done to try and figure it out, the question standing out. Maybe he was phrasing it wrong? Does it need to be phrased more to get a result for the future? Of course...that had to be it. This was divination after all. All about the future. Ben thought about his question and trying to edit it into something better, finally figuring on what might be the best option. Now to focus once more on the question to see what kind of response he might get. Will I ever get my hair and body back to normal? Will I ever get my hair and body back to normal? Will I ever get my hair and body back to normal? |
While Sander waited to consult with the Professor regarding his question, he picked up his quill and quickly wrote down his interpretation of the was passage which his finger had randomly picked out. Text Cut: Sander's Divination Journal Sander then put down his quill and waited for the Professor to get to him. |
Bleh. Mo tapped his quill against the desk, face scrunched up in thought. He hadn't really seen anything new and genius in the passage he'd selected, but it didn't help that his question was so random and broad. If his question was about the near future, about what was next, what could he read in the passage? In context, the very busy Mrs. Elton was insisting to Emma that the two of them could use their power and influence to rescue poor Jane Fairfax from her circumstances, without realizing that Jane Fairfax wasn't really in need of rescuing. In context, it didn't really apply to his life directly, not so that Mo could see. But taking the passage out of context and looking only at the words, he liked what they captured. Especially the part that said "A vast deal may be done by those who dare to act... If we set the example, many will follow it as far as they can." Mo dipped his quill in ink and jotted down some notes. SPOILER!!: Notes |
Tessa held her breath as she placed Quidditch Through the Ages on its spine. When she was sure it was balanced, she let go of the book, letting it casually fall open to a random page. When she looked down at the page, she found that it was talking about the Welsh team, the Caerphilly Catapults. A smile played on her lips as she continued reading, the page explaining about the team's past. Would this be the team she would be chosen for? It somewhat answered her question, but she still couldn't be sure. |
With his second question clear and in focus in his mind, Ben figured he was ready to try the reading again. Will I ever get my hair and body back to normal? he mused once more to set it in solid in his mind. He then closed his eyes again and let the book fall open where it may like the directions on the board said, his finger falling to the paper surface. When he opened his eyes and looked down at the page he had randomly opened to, there was only one sentence to which he could point to and pick out. Quote:

Okay, Schuyler was focused enough. She kept her eyes closed to pick up the book, set it on its spine, and let it open on the desk to some random page. Her index finger went to the page on the right-hand side and her eyelids peeled open once again to examine the line she was pointing at... SPOILER!!: Passage She read it once. And then she read it a second time immediately after. I have perceived that to be with those i like is enough...I swim in it, as in a sea. Of course she liked being around those whom she liked. But that wasn't really answering her question of what career she ought to go into, was it? Maybe it hinted at it? That was something.. A moment or two later her quill was scratching against her parchment in neat manuscript. SPOILER!!: Notes She skimmed over her words and nodded. Not a very concrete answer, but it was an answer, yes. |
Ana had no idea what question she should be asking. There were a lot that she could potentially ask but she was finding it hard to settle on which one. Mainly because for most of them she wasn't sure if she wanted to get an answer or not. Sighing in frustration she finally decided to go with a very generic question. Ana closed her eyes and took deep breaths like she had been instructed to and cleared her mind of everything but her question as she allowed the book to fall open on the table. As her eyes opened Ana's attention was immediately drawn to a passage that gave her a bit of hope. SPOILER!!: notes She rather thought that the passage was quite clear cut and so she didn't need the Professor's help to interpret it. Although she did think that she should probably find another, slightly more difficult, question to ask and interpret an answer for. |
Adi thought he could interpret what this passage was telling him. He picked up his quill and began to write: Like the kids in the book, I'm nervous (''He had to have heard my heart pounding. Maybe he didn't know what the sound was. Maybe he didn't recognize the sounds of five terrified kids whose knees were quivering and teeth were chattering. Kids who were breathing in short, sudden gasps'') but about how long it will take to master the guitar. My dad encouraged me and eve got me a tutor and I don't want to disappoint him by taking a long time. But if this Bibliomancy thingy is real and I interpreted this correctly, it won't be long before I accomplish my goal (''The Hork-Bajir moved closer still. He was six feet away now'') and there might be just a small obstacle in my way (''with just the low wall between us'') Okay. Adi was done. What now? |
Benjy really should have known by now that divination was all about answering questions...and thus should have some prepared in advance. But no, here he was yet again trying to think of something useful to ask the fates. He stroekd his quill back and forth on his chin, and wrinkled his nose as his blank parchment. Sigh. A glance round the room showed him that he was one of the only ones not yet divining, and he quickly scribbled down the first question that came to mind. 'Will dinner be good tonight?' Right, now to focus. Breathe in. Breathe out. Try not to think of being hungry whilst thinking about dinner. Breathe in. Breathe out... |
'It is bewitched to evade capture as long as possible.' That was the sentence Toby found himself pointing at when he looked over to Quidditch Through the Ages. The boy furrowed his brow and stared at the line and read it and re-read it. He had ben worried that he'd get a passage that wouldn't be ambiguous enough to make sense, as he had a book of specific facts. But no. This was... vague enough. But he didn't like it. H stared at the line for ages, trying to think of a way to work this in his favour. There was always away. Eventually, Toby shifted the open book to elsewhere on his desk and pulled his parchment back towards him again. He picked up his quill, dipped it in the ink and brushed away the excess, and began writing. Quote:
Even so, now he'd thought about Quidditch, he couldn't stop thinking about it at all. All occupied Toby's mind now was thoughts of the great game. |
What... did that mean? Alice stared blankly at the passage before her. Was Anna Karenina trying to tell her that this class was a load of rubbish? Because that was what it sounded like. It wasn't a proper explanation either way, and she'd even asked a vague yes or no question. This was either a ridiculous activity, or her inquiry was unanswerable. But she tried. Quote:
She'd just keep telling herself that in the hopes that it'd make her feel better. |
Okay so she had to think of a question. That couldn't be too hard. Automatically, she thought of why she even bothered coming to Divination. Normally she would have just smirked at the thought and come up with a better question, but the foul mood that she as in only encouraged her to go with the that question. So she tried to clear her mind and think of nothing else but that. It was actually really hard to do because it was a task to keep herself from thinking about how big a waste Divination was. Hannah closed her eyes and tried to think of nothing but her question. Who knew, maybe her book and this whole nonsense would actually answer her question. |
Robin took notes on the procedure and took a deep breath, letting her shoulders ride all the way up until she exhaled and slumped them back down. What was a question she wanted answered? Well, there were either none that she could think of or too many to count, crushes? 11 was too young to be thinking about that, or at least that's what her parents said. Grades? As long as she did her best she didn't really want to know. Friends? That was a good one. She glanced at the room around her. She took her book in her hand and stood up so it would have more air to fall through and closed her eyes, focusing on nothing but the smooth binding in her hands and the pages at her tips. Will I make long lasting friendships here? Exhaling the breath she didn't know she had been holding she let the book fall, it's binding hitting the table and falling open. Quickly closing her eyes so that she wouldn't know the page, she pointed to a random passage and slowly opened one eye, excited that it was working so far. She peeked at where she was pointing "We'll find them sir”, the woman said- and set out on her long journey across the unfamiliar lands. Robin stared and stared at the passage, and found herself smiling. She knew the story well, the Irish girl had lost the lords flock of birds, and set herself on a journey to retrieve them. In the end the Lord saw the virtue of the girl and they married and lived well forever after. She took this as a good sign that she would make friends, but knew that it would only be after a journey that she had to work hard for. |
After Caelen finished with note taking, she went over the procedure. Think of a question? Well there was no way that she could overthink this one. -insert sarcasm.- Because she was the QUEEN of overthinking things sometimes. She could ask why her friendship with Spencer was becoming weird, or if she was going to pass Hogwarts. Or if she would ever get over her candy addiction. So many things to ask! But she had to choose one. And she chose the one that actually seemed academic and important. Now she had to clear her mind of everything else. Leaning her head back and pushing the loose strands of her red braid away from her face, she focused on the ONE question. The academicy one. The one that actually seemed interesting. Will I pass Hogwarts through all seven years? The question was there. She inhaled it with every breath. She was FOCUSED. Really focused. Because she wanted this to work, see? Now all she had to do was search the book. The Wizard of Oz. Her favorite. She opened the book to a random page -though she knew what almost every page held- and looked for the first passage. "Follow the yellow brick road. Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road." Ummm, explanation? Because that made no sense. Was there a yellow brick road? Should she start looking for one to find the anwser? Uggh. Her book HAD to be really ambigious. Maybe she should try again. So she did. Because seriously? Her book was awful right now. She opened the book again and looked for the first passage. "If I only had a brain." Okay, now the thing was mocking her. She angrly shut the book. Maybe she wasn't doing this well. She had to figure out what this meant, didn't she? Well, the first time it meant that maybe she should follow her feelings and thoughts? That made sense. Umm, what did yellow apparently mean to the people who thought that colours meant things? Wasn't it like loyalty? So just remain loyal to your classes and things will happen? That was her first one. And then for the second one. Well maybe it was saying that she had to keep a good brain in her head and she'd pass nicely. Yep, that sounded goo. Because she seriously had no other ideas. |
So Hannah was not having an easy time of clearing her mind. As soon as she tried to think of nothing but her question it seemed like a million things kept popping into her head. Okay Hannah, you need to focus, she scolded herself. It was hard to take this class seriously, and she had to try really hard to contain a fit of giggles that threatened to escape. She took a deep breath in and released it. Hannah seriously doubted that a passage from her story was going to prove anything. Granted her question was why was she taking Divination so maybe if all else fails she would be able to get a good laugh out of it. Clearing her mind, she though of nothing but her question. |
Quote:
"Oh, the thrill of the chase as I soar through the air With the Snitch up ahead and the wind in my hair As I draw ever closer, the crowd gives a shout But then comes a Bludger and I am knocked out." —Ingolfr the Iambic, 1400s Norway Uhhh...okay. Sophie blinked as she thought back to her question. She'd asked if she was going to get into trouble for getting into that fight with Genie. She re-read the passage. Well, this just didn't seem good now did it?! She knew her parents would never knock her out or anything silly like that, but it just looked like doom was ahead. She imagined getting grounded until she was eighty-seven. Nope. Not good. |
So they were told that if they finished, they could have another go. And Caelen really felt like she needed the other go. Because her other ones were really ambiguous, yeah? Seriously, they made no sense. Well they sort-of made sense. If you like really thought about them. But Caelen always thought things like this were more... concrete. In movies, people always did this stuff and got simple answers. You will get married. You will die. Bam, wham, thank you madam. Nothing like the ones she got. And maybe those were the answers you were SUPPOSED to get in this sort of thing, but she wasn't satisfied. No sir. So she was trying it another two times. Maybe she could... change her fate. Thinking of the thought again, she opened the book and looked at it. "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home!" OH COME ON! How was she supposed to interpret that? Maybe she should not have done this again. Or maybe there was a way to interpret this? Maybe Hogwarts was like a home? Or maybe she had to find peace at her home(s?) to pass classes? NOPE. She was going with the first idea. Because this one made less sense. |
