Astronomy Lesson 1 :: the Big Bang Theory OOC: Please be sure you are familiar with Professor Flamsteed's rules BEFORE you post in this lesson. We will know if you haven't read them! All SnitchSeeker site rules apply. |
It was time for Professor Flamedude's class. He was hoping this would be a cool one to go to since he had met the professor over the summer and again at the lake hehehe. Plus astronomy was more doing like looking at things than reading so not a huge book class score on that thought. He really hoped it would be better than the last two he had been to. Snore fest for both and as of now only one other professor had made the cool list. Seeing the lint roller he picked it up and brushed his robes off hoping that's what he was suppose to do with it. Kind of an odd thing, but he was familiar with odd things. Moving into class he gave the Professor a huge grin that followed with a yawn mid sentence, "Hello *yawn* Professor." oops didn't mean to yawn but it was night fall. So he would usually be zonked out in his favorite bludger and quaffle pj's. He saw him with that fish again, "I like to talk to animals too. It's fun." He wondered if the professor ever got the fish to talk back now that would be cool. |
Lex wasn't gonna lie, this was one of the classes she was genuinely excited for. She'd been looking forward to it ever since she checked her schedule during dinner. Never a dull moment in that class. Alexa paused by the door and got the lint roller all over and everywhere it needed to. The Professor wasn't a fan of lint....she didn't know WHAT lint was but she was under the impression this roller got rid of it so.....rolling. Before entering, she tucked the lock of gray hair behind her ear, hoping it wouldn't stand out that much. Never again would she study, just look what it was doing to her. "Good evening Professor." The Gryffindor's eyes were trained on the box. "Anything explosive tonight?" Yes? No? "Are we exploding the fish?" Lex casually strolled closer to the tank, giving it a few light taps. |
Two years of Astronomy had given Tobias enough experience of where the best seat was in Astronomy. It wasn't like other classes, with their formal desk set-up. Toby liked the semi-circle thing that Professor Flamsteed had going on, and would probably feel all out of place in the class if the man ever decided to be more like the other professors when it came to the seating arrangement. After using the lint roller on his uniform, the Hufflepuff entered and paused for a second to glance around the room. Finding that there was nothing too out of the ordinary, save that black box over there, Tobias continued into the classroom and took a seat at his favourite desk; one that gave him a good view of the grounds (when it was light out) and the sky (when it was not). He set his bag down and started taking out his writing supplies. "Hello Professor Flamsteed," he addressed the professor, who was talking to... "Hi Professor Dursley." Ahem. Yes. ................ When Tobias had everything out, he leaned his elbows on the desk and started absentmindedly twirling the feathered end of his quill around a lock of his own hair. They'd get to sit for this lesson, yeah? Maybe? It was kinda doubtful, actually, but at least they'd get a rest. It was a lot of stairs up to the Astronomy tower, after all. |
Please why would Nigel use the lint brush for his hair. He already brushed his hair before coming to class. You can not have awesome hair without taking care of it. Nigel did in fact use the lint roller to make sure he was lint free. lint on suits was disgusting. Ah back to the semi circle. Nigel noticed this and the black box as he entered the room. Very mysterious box. Wonder if it makes green beards like that thing last term. "Hello Professor Flamsteed. Nice suit as always. We won't get green beards if you peak in the black box will we?" What was with the fish tank though. This was not Care of Magical Creatures. Whatever fish never interested Nigel anyway. |
Adi distractedly used the lint roller not even bothering to ponder on the usual question of who would use the lint roller as a hair brush. Why was he distracted? Well, he had found THREE grey hairs in his head that morning! He found the one in his comb and then he found three more at the front of his head after examining it with a mirror. He wasn't old! No where close to being old! So why was there grey hairs in his head? Still worrying about his grey hair, he took time to greet the Professor. "Hello, Professor!'' Oh the man had his fish tank. Talking to fish. That wasn't weird at all. People talked to animals all the time. "Looking forward to today's lesson.'' He grinned, eyeing the black box and wondering what was in it before heading off to find a seat. |
Awwwwwwwww yeaaaaah! Astronomy. Her favorite subject of all! Awar passed the lint roller, routinely, over her clothes and then set it back on the table. "Hello there..." She started, peering at the box, then at the fish tank. "....Professor. How are you doing today?" She picked a seat near the front, but not exaaactly the front and settled in comfortably. |
Kace was excited to go to Astronomy. This was one of his favorite classes. I mean the teacher was always dressed nicely and he was just simply awesome. He hoped to be him someday. As he made his way to the classroom, he realized he wasn't the only one here. He saw other students. But he saw the professor near the fish tank and he went over to investigate. "Hey Professor! Nice fish tank you got there. What kind of fishes are in there?" he asked curiously. |
Christmas entered the Astronomy classroom and spotted the lint roller and used it on her robes cause she knew that Professor Flamsteed was always one for getting rid of anything that lay on the robes and said "Good Evening Professor" Christmas took a seat and waited for class to start |
Stepping inside the classroom, Lux looked around curiously before heading over to one of the desks and taking a seat. Noticing the Professor by a fish tank, she saw that it was the same one who had been in the girl's bathroom with his foot in a bucket. Well.... this was certainly weird. "Hello, Professor! How are you doing today?" |
Astronomy was one of those lessons that Terry did quite enjoy. The walk from the Common Room up however was extremely long and tiring and quite frankly he was grateful to have a seat once he reached the top. This was why he didn't play Quidditch, his stamina wasn't that great, especially at this time of the day when Terry could easily be sleeping. He paused at the door, noticing the lint roller. His robes weren't covered in pet fur or dirty but he picked it up anyway, brushing down his clothes quickly but thoroughly. Eh. Good enough. He stepped into the classroom, just in time to spot the professor talking to the fish and Lex asking the strangest question. "Hello Professor" he greeted whilst giving Lex a strange look. Blowing up the fish? What was going through that girls mind? A, that was extremely cruel to the fish and B, why would they do that in the classroom? He sat in the desk next to her, his eyebrow raised as he looked at her. |
His. Chin. Was. So. ITCHY! Rub rub rub... walk walk walk... rub rub rub... That's what Alec did all the way up towards the Astronomy classroom, only stopping by the boy's bathroom to splash some water over his chin area and then dry his face. It helped relieve the itch just that little bit, even if it left the boy feeling as confused as ever. Stubble had never grown this quickly before but not soon after his eighteenth birthday, things seemed to have sped up in that area. Good. Maybe. Curly Wade would be proud. The girlfriend might not. Itchy kisses, you know. ... Who... would use a lint roller as a hairbrush? BLINK. Eyeing the sign curiously, the seventh year de-linted himself before stepping into the classroom and taking a look around. Nothing weird except... for the black box at the front of the classroom. Remembering the green beard situation with Minnie, Alec decided to stay as far away from that black box as possible. Instead, he was going too concentrate in something else up at the front of the classroom. Or... someone else. "Hello Professor!" And... a fish tank? Should he... ask? Probably not. "Nice fish." Not asking. Grinning at the man, the Head Boy headed over towards an empty seat and sat down. He pulled out his things and set them out on his desk before letting his bag drop to the floor underneath the desk. Grey-blue eyes were now fixed on the black box while his hand absent-mindedly went up to his chin again. Curious... very... curious. Rub rub rub... |
Emma cheerfully grabbed the lint roller, taking extra care to make sure that every inch of her robes got taken care of. Oh yes. Cleanliness, one of the many reasons she enjoyed this class so much. Ooh. A fish! Maybe they were gonna do something with the fish! "Good evening, Professor!" She cheerfully greeted the man before taking her place in the semi circle. All right, stars and moons and constellations and fish. Emma could handle that. |
Marissa walked into the Astronomy classroom for the first time since she had never made it last term. "Good morning Professor." she said as looked around and took an empty seat. |
Astronomy. Sophie didn't mind this class much. She was neither overly-excited nor overly-bored with it. It was just a tolerable class. At least Flamsteed made it fun, though. She entered the classroom and took that initial glance around as she looked for a seat. What she saw, though, was the professor talking to...a tank of fish? Hmm... Sophie made her way through the room and passed by the professor. "Hello, Professor," she said. A tank of fish. Mmkay... A. The professor had possibly gone mad, or... B. Those fish were really people with the ability to change into fish, or... C. Those were some really special fish. Either way, Sophie thought it best to observe from afar. She chose a seat on the opposite side of the room and sat down. |
Slowly. Ella was inching slowly towards the classroom, hand on her lower back because ouch, painful. She'd had aches and pains after particularly hard workouts and stuff but really, she had no idea where this particular hurt had come from. Whatever it was, it wasn't welcome. Go away, pain, see you never. Also something that needed to go away, any lint she was carrying on her. Lint rolling happened slowly too...for reasons. Anyway, Professor Airey was talking to a fish. Normally suspect behavior if it had come from anyone else but Ella wasn't surprised to see the Astronomy professor doing it. The man was in love with a particularly cheerful looking rock for Merlin's sake. Why wouldn't he have a fish for a friend too? Besides, talking to animals was nice. Ella Boyfriend! Smilesssssss for the boyfriend, yup. The head girl took the seat beside him and sat back before saying quietly, "Hey there." Why...was he rubbing his face like that? |
Gwen was excited for this class. She loved horoscopes and things, and that was something like this, right? Just magical and more accurate? She practically bounced into the tower and chose a seat. This was going to be awesome. She was going to be able to tell future from the stars! And Divination too! This school was teaching her the future, and it was awesome! |
Sander finally reached the Astronomy classroom. It took him a lot longer than usual because that was a heck of a long climb and he had gotten strangely tired even before he reached the fourth floor of the castle. Breathing heavily, he peeked into the classroom. He noticed the Professor squatting down next to a large fish tank and wondered firstly, what kind of fish he had in there and secondly, was that the same tank he had occasionally noticed the Professor carrying around the school grounds. Sander was about to step into the classroom and walk up to him to greet him when he noticed a lint roller lying on a small table just outside the classroom and frowned. He read the sign. 'Okay not to be used for hair. That's obvious. But what is it doing here?" Sander thought to himself. Then he saw a student pick it up, roll it on their robes before placing it back down and then proceeding into the classroom. Shrugging his shoulders, Sander figured that there was no harm in him using it to clean the lint of his robe either. So he picked it up, rolled the roller along his robes before placing it back down on the table for the next person to use. With that done, he stepped into the classroom and approached the professor to greet him. "Hello Professor. Nice fish you have there." he told the Professor before wandering off to find an empty desk to sit at. He looked around and was disappointed to see that Tessa hadn't arrived yet. |
What on EARTH was the lint roller for? Lucas eyed it surreptitiously for about a minute before he conceded. It was a little kooky but he'd found that all of Hogwarts' Professors were a little different. Quote:
"Evening," he said and then saw someone ELSE he knew. Oh yeah! Quote:
|
Yes! Astronomy easily one of his favorite subjects. Thanks to Airey or mmm Professor Airey. He didn't even take it when he was in Italy at school last term. He rushed up to classroom without one grumble of how far it was from the Slytherin Common room. He got up to the classroom took the lint brush used and put it back. He walked into the room calmly but excitedly. He grinned to the Professor "Good eveing, Professor. What's up" Fist bump? because he was a cool dude, professor. Pet fish, he upgraded from the pet rock. Cool. Hello fishes. Or whatever more than one fish were called. He when and found a seat. Bro he grinned and plopped down next to Summers Yo, Bro. Fist bump for you, too. dude. What was in the black box. He titled his head looking at the box. |
Oichi yawned as she made her way up to astronomy tower. Man, I get by now why astronomy class must be held so late but even after all these years I still don't like it. She sighed as she sluggishly reached the door to the tower and opened it. She walked in and saw the professor and could not help but chuckle lightly. She had seen her professors do a lot of strange things but this took the cake. She walked over to the professor and said, "Good evening professor and may I ask, why are you talking to a fish?". |

To Nigel Mo meandered his way into the classroom and squatted beside Professor Flamsteed, peering into the tank and stroking his chin as he tried to see whatever it was the professor was looking for. Hmmm. Hmm. Fish? Maybe there were fish? And ugh, he had definitely been playing too hard at Quidditch tryouts over the past few days, Mo decided as he straightened back up and felt the muscles in his back and legs protest. Why in the world was Flamsteed standing like that when it was so brutal on his body? Mo gave himself a roll-over with the lint roller, ignoring the sign that had been placed there specifically for him. That had been JUST ONE TIME, OKAY? Merlin, some people had long memories. He climbed over a few people to get to a seat beside Nigel, who was looking completely unconcerned. Must not be aching from all that Quidditch. "Hey, mate. These evening classes are brutal, aren't they?" He dropped a hand on Nigel's shoulder for balance as he shifted into his seat. And maybe sighed with relief now that he was there. What a day. |
Seventh floor common room = easy hike to the Astronomy classroom. Schuyler made her way into class with her bad slung over her shoulder. She bypassed Professor Flamsteed's desk on her way to her seat. "Hello, Professor." And she flashed a smiled, too. A little wider than usual because her memory suddenly jogged back to his flustered self at the lake. The second bra incident. Those things seemed more amusing in hindsight. After dropping her bag on the floor, she found her seat. So, what was the black box? |
With the rest of the day rather uneventful besides the occasional lesson and dinner a few hours past, it approached the night time hour the astronomy posting had mentioned. It was probably a good thing Ben had managed a decent night sleep the evening before for tonight was going to be long if last term had proven anything. The second year headed up after leaving the library where he had been studying, finally climbing the last set of stairs to the top of the astronomy tower. Stepping inside of the classroom he spotted several classmates, the professor and the ever-present fishtank and its occupant. "Good evening, Professor Flamsteed," he greeted with a polite nod as he passed the croached man. Whatever it was with the fish was none of his business. The Gryffindor moving to take an empty seat to await the lesson to begin. |

Before he knew it Mo was siting next to him. "Don't tell me you have been doing extra training?" Nigel did not think he needed it. But that hand on his shoulder for balance was telling. Sigh. He needed to relax a tad bit more or just continue doing Yoga. But that was asking for a miracle. |
Kevin didn't want to go to class despite the Astronomy tower being so close to the Gryffindor Common Room. He was embarrassed. Really, REALLY embarressed. The first year had woken up with a horrible sight. He had noticed that his hair was GREY at the top of his head while brushing his hair in front of the mirror and not knowing where it had came from and being too young to know how to get rid of it, he decided that a baseball cap was the best way to conceal it. Outside the classroom, he used the lint roller like instructed. Normally he would have done something like do a prank on another student but not today. He didn't want any eyes on him for he felt like they were going to laugh at him. And they probably would if they saw his hair. He just wished the Professor wasn't going to ask him to take off the cap... If he did he had to refuse. Better to have some points lost than public embarrassment. Entering the room, he immediately noticed a man sitting beside a table talking to a fish tank and the first year raised his eyebrow. Okaaaay... weird man. He chuckled at what his Prefect asked about exploding the fish but then remembered he did not like her and he pretended he hadn't heard it. "Hai Professor" was the only thing he said before he found a seat and placed a hand on top of his cap for protection. No one was going to get it off of him! |

My goodness. Astronomy class was going to be the death of Astrid. Why? It was in the evening, and the walk to from the Slytherin Dungeons to the ASTRONOMY TOWER was going to break her bones any moment. Making her way to the Tower was the longest walk ever in her entire life. Gosh. She was so glad that she reached the classroom before passing out. Nope. She CANNOT pass out tonight. This was the first ever Astronomy class she'd be taking at Hogwarts. Hmm. What was that? Astrid looked closer at the thing at the entrance. OH. Lint roller. Was she supposed to use it? Looking at the people inside the classroom, she blinked. Did they really? Well, it wouldn't be out here for no reason so yeah, she had to use it. Astrid used it to clean her robes of lint and yeah... there, she was clean. Done. She entered the classroom. "Good evening, Professor. I'm Astrid." Astrid grinned at him. And why does it have to take forever to walk from my common room to reach this place? Heh. "Oooh. Fish! What is it telling you, Professor?" She'd love to learn the art of FISHTALK, you know? Maybe she'd be able to learn it from the Astronomy Professor. |
It was strange to be heading to class when it was time to be heading for bed but whatever. It was Astronomy. They weren't likely to check out the stars or planets unless they could see them, right? She waited for her turn at the lint roller. After it was free, she worked her robes over with a few, good passes and then slipped quietly into the room. "Evening, Professor," she said as she passed him on her way to an empty seat. |
She stood outside the classroom staring at the rolly-thing. She saw as students who entered the classroom rolled it upon their robes. It was clear what it was to Beverly. She was good at analyzing things, it was her thing. But...why? Did the professor think they were filthy? Well, not the Slytherins. She, for one, could vow was clean and organized with her belongings. Either way, she picked it up and tilted her head at it. So...she just rolled it and TA-DAH! lint free? It'd be sort of silly since Kennedy charmed her robes to stay neat and clean. Not bad. Setting it down, Bev entered the classroom, feeling like a total rule breaker because she just used something muggle - it was against her father's rules. Spotting the professor, she paused. The first thing that came to mind was a fox. More precisely, a fox suit and fox song. Watching him cautiously, she snatched a desk nearest to the front. "G-Good day, professor," she greeted all shy and stuff. Did he remember her? If he didn't, it'd be embarrassing. If he did it'd still be embarrassing. |
Astronomy. GREAT. One of Marigold's favorite classes, next to Charms. :loved: She stopped and did the by-now-customary lint removal before stepping into the by-now-familiar classroom. She beelined it for the Professor. Who was talking to a... fish? "Hi, Professor. How are you?" she asked, eyeing the fish. |
Arwen entered the room, skipping out on the lint roller, she didn't need to use such devices. Really who was this guy? Like a germaphob or something? First year back at Hogwarts. She didn't even understand why she had to come back. But oh well she was back. Plus would the Professor really notice if she hadn't even touched the lint roller. "Good evening, Professor Flamsteed." Honestly was this the guy Nerida told her about that was awesome? Because really? He was talking to a fish for Merlin's sake! |
Hope very casually strolled up to the Astronomy class room. She had finally been able to get excited for this class and was more than ready to take it on. At the door she cocked her head sideways as she stared at the lint roller. Odd. She inspected herself and didn't see any lint that was in urgent need of being removed so she strolled on right through the door. The desks were arranged in a circle and on the Professors desk sat a black box. "Hello, Professor Flamsteed." She strolled up to the desk and just stared at the box. "Interesting box." She looked towards him and a wide smile stretched across her face. FISH! He had brought the fish with him to class! The urge to pet it coursed through her, but she was in class, so she crossed her arms and stared at the box. "May I ask what is in the box?" |

Michael wasn't particularly fond of Astronomy the subject but Professor Flamsteed was always entertaining and so he made it worth the trek up here. He picked up the lint roller and gave himself a quick brush over not being overly fussy as to where he was rolling it and if he was even getting any lint off. The temptation to roll it over his hair was a little overwhelming but he forced himself to put the roller down and enter the classroom. "Evening Professor." He greeted the man and didn't blink an eyelid that the man was talking to a fish. Michael had gotten used this weirdness. He merely scanned the room for a vacant seat. He spotted 'little bunny' up near the front and he tipped her a wink as he walked by and found himself a seat to sit in. |
Ana wasn't so enthused about this lesson. Astronomy was great and all but recently she'd been getting tired more easily, as if the day to day tasks were draining all of her energy. She wasn't sure why and she was tempted to go and see the healer, but then she remembered the Slytherin party and wasn't so keen on the idea. Especially as getting to the Hospital Wing would necessitate asking someone to guide her there, and even though Terry had been nice enough to offer to guide her to classes if she needed it she didn't want to have to explain to anyone why she needed to see the Healer. Upon reaching the classroom Ana looked dubiously at the lint roller. She was meant to use that? But, it had other peoples hair and stuff on it... Sighing, Ana decided to go for it anyway and was mortified to spot a few grey hairs on it that hadn't been there before she used it. This was horrific! If it weren't for the fact that she couldn't afford to be late for class she probably would have stood outside in shock for a little longer, as it was she moved into the classroom, stopping once more in shock when she noticed that Professor Nevertheless she decided to be polite as she approached him, at a slower pace than normal because she was already feeling the strain of having walked upstairs. "Hello Professor, hope you haven't gotten your foot stuck in any more buckets recently," which really meant she hoped he hadn't been sneaking around in the girls loo again. Greeting given Ana walked over to a spare chair and dropped down onto it, not even looking to see who else was already in the room before dropping her head down into her arms. She was so exhausted right now it wasn't funny and would kill for a nap. She didn't dare to fall asleep though, so she made sure to keep her eyes up and focussed on Flamsteed. She didn't want to get a detention from him for sleeping in class when she'd narrowly avoided the one for supposed PDA. |
Adrienne sighed as she remembered the whole 'lint roller' thing that Flamsteed was so popular for - it was dumb, in her opinion, but she couldn't exactly not oblige, since he was the professor and all. She halfheartedly rolled it over her sleeves and shoulders and dropped it back on the table before entering the classroom. Oddly enough, the evening was usually the time of day that she was most awake, so though she'd been stumbling sleepily through most of the day's classes, she was feeling perkier than usual as she chose a desk near the front of the semicircle and got out her notebook, flipping to a page neatly labelled "Astronomy". "Evening, professor," she said, quirking an eyebrow at his fish tank. Why was he talking to it? "Have you finally replaced the pet rock," what was its name again? "with fish?" Well, if so, Adrienne mused, they were at least a bit more interesting than a rock. You know, being actually alive and all. She looked around for Tora, hoping she'd arrive soon so she wouldn't have to suffer alone. Like Transfiguration, they had very different opinions on the value of an Astronomy class. |
Normally Adelaide wasn't too big on staying up that late at night, but it was Astronomy, one of her favorite classes. Wasn't one of her best, but it was one of her favorites with her favorite professor. She grabbed the lint roller and rolled herself off, picking up some stray cat hairs. Oreo really needed to stop sleeping in her robes. She smiled at Flamsteed. "Evening professor." She raised an eyebrow at the fish tank before going to grab a seat. Best to just not question things. They'd find out soon enough what was going on. |
Ignoring the lint roller as usual, Alice entered the Astronomy classroom with a slight variation to her gait. Today, there was a hint of a limp in the lioness' stride, though she tried to hide it. But ever since Alexa kicked her in the shin, her knee hadn't felt the same, and it was killing her again. The pain had been bearable on her way to the tower, but as soon as she reached the semicircle of chairs, it gave out on her. She collapsed into a seat next to that Toussaint kid, wincing and clutching her knee and mentally praying that Kettleburn wasn't around him today, because she couldn't handle loud third years on top of this all. "Mo-owww-rning, professor," she greeted through gritted teeth. Merlin. So painful. |
She was ready for Astronomy. Yup, ready to stargaze, to clean a scope or FLY up in wings. For whatever the Professor had for them in store, she knew she was going to like it. And it felt better now that she had chosen the subjects she wanted to continue on with. This one she diffenitely wanted to keep. Though she wasn't that great, she was quite satisfied with herself. Outside by the door, she picked up a lint roller and did what she had to do before stepping inside the class. "Good day, Professor," Oooh, the fish. The sixth-year wondered if they'd do anything that related the fish. Did sea creatures have anything to do with the stars!? Did they? They'd probably know about that later. Looking around, the blond smiled as she passed friends of her then chose a seat next to Adelaide. Haaaai dormmate. The ginger got a smile. |
Astronomy time! Hayley was excited, really really excited. Her first Astronomy class EVER, wasn't that cool? Of course it was! She was named after a comet anyway and comets were a part of Astronomy, therefore Astronomy was cool. The long trek from the Kitchen floor was really tiring, though, and Hayley was a little bit out of breath by the time she reached the Astronomy Tower. What was that thing over there? She squinted at it, and then looked at everyone else there and decided that it would be safe to do what they were doing and not use it as a hairbrush. She rolled it over her robes and entered the classroom, still not quite getting why they had to do that. Maybe their professor was a clean freak. That was probably it. "Good evening, professor." There, that was settled. Now where was Miss Astrid? She promised Hayley could sit with her. Outer Space Duo thing, y'know? Quote:
BOUNCE. |
Astronomy. This was a class that Hannah could deal with. It wasn't a favorite by any means, but it wasn't muggle studies either so she would take it. Hannah was tired and cranky. The seventh year seemed to be tired and cranky always lately. She was hoping that it was her imagination, but she even seemed to be moving slower lately, and that definitely didn't help with her crankiness! Lint roller. She couldn't forget to roll herself down even though she always kept herself looking fabulous and lint free. Why was her arm not moving fast? It was almost as if she were moving in slow motion. Merlin... this was getting old. She was still a teenager for crying out loud. She eyed the professor upon walking completely into the classroom. "Professor." was all she could manage to get out. She was not in the mood. Hannah took a seat and waited for the lesson to start. |
Sarah had been overjoyed with her O in Astronomy, and she was eager to keep it up. The stars sort of facinated her. She used the lint roller on herself and made her way to a place. "Hello Professor" she beamed. "Are you experimenting with fish and space? Like sending it up somehow or doing gravity test on the fish, that way we can determine the life of other human forms at space. Like, when there was water on mars, were there fish there too?" She had a lot of questions... and she was starting already. |
Quote:
"Hi, Miss Comet," the Slytherin greeted her. Hufflepuff wasn't that bad. They had Alec and Ella, after all. There was an empty seat beside her too so Hayley could definitely sit. So yeah... now she wasn't that sleepy. She didn't wanna get embarrassed in front of a first year. That'd be weird, right? Ahem. She'd love to talk to Hayley about how Hogwarts was so far but you know, there was a Professor in front. "We can talk after class, yeah?" she whispered. The Puff would understand. |

Now, who was that shouting his name? "Lucas! Hey!'' Or should Adi refer to him as Broomhead as Robin did? He glanced at the seat, welcome for a friendly distraction. ''Sure, buddy.'' He grinned. "So what's up?'' |
Ian walked on into the classroom after taking off the lint using the supplied brush. It seemed odd to de-lint prior to entering a classroom where the main focus was on the skies, however he didn't want to be a rule breaker. As he walked in, he saw other students already seated and the professor squatting next to that empty fish tank. Not wanting to distract the professor from his 'important' professorial task, he looked for an empty seat near some other Huffie boys and sat down. He set about arranging his things for class. |
Penelope sniffled a little as she entered the classroom after a lazy use of the lint roller. Her flu, or whatever it was she'd been suffering from, seemed to mostly be over by now, with only the sniffles and the occasional cough left. Not that it mattered anymore because she'd missed tryouts. Yeah, she was a little bitter over that. Stupid sickness. She might have considered continuing to avoid classes, but she was tired of laying in a bed for days, so even lessons seemed slightly fun right now. "Hi Professor," she said simply as she walked by, not really even noticing the fish he was talking to. Though even if she had, it probably wouldn't have been weird. Seemed pretty normal Flamsteed behavior. There wasn't a lot he could do that she would consider weird for him. The Gryffindor plopped down into a random seat and just stared at some point on the floor to wait for class to start. |
Quote:
"You!" She smiled a little, a familiar face was better than a stranger...right? She looked around for Adriennes friend Tora who always seemed to be around. "Has Tora arrived?" |
Astronomy. The class Lotus was telling her so much about. Finally! Delilah was excited, to say the least. However, the walk all the way to the seventh floor was kind of tiring. Heh. She slowly walked into the classroom, greeting the "Hello, professor." She said, rather loudly before making her way to an empty seat. She sat down and waited for class to begin. |
class officially starts here <3 Quote:

But then he was staring at her. HARD CORE STARING. While he usually appreciated the girl's spunk and unconventional thinking, this rubbed the man the wrong way and he scowled briefly. "No." There was an uncharacteristic lack of amusement in his tone. "That would be murder, Miss Cambridge. I doubt you would be pleased if Miss Wisteria were to turn into a bass and someone blew her up, correct?" Quote:

Checking his sundial watch one more time, the professor decided that it was time to get things started. With a quick flick of his wand he shut the door to the classroom and then walked towards the center of the semicircle while holding his lower back with his right hand for the extra support he had been needing recently. "Good evening and thank you all for coming," he greeted as he clapped his hands together twice to get everyone's attention. "Welcome to Astronomy, NOT to be confused with Astrology. For those of you who do not know me or may have forgotten my name, I am Professor Flamsteed and you may call me such or Professor Airey or sir." Hmmm. Odd. No matter. "Today we are going to travel back, figuratively speaking that is, nearly 14 billion years ago. To do this, I need to ask you all a unusual question." He then walked over to the black box on the table. Yep. Time for the big revealing - which really was not all that exciting. With one swift movement, Airey removed the lid and reached into the box to pull out nothing more than a measly chicken egg. "Which came first, the phoenix or the flame? Or, as muggles will put it, which came first, the chicken or the egg?" he began as he held the egg up for everyone to see. "Originally intended to point out the futility of identifying the first case of a circular cause and consequence, but serves another purpose. It also evoked the questions of how life and the universe in general began, something that plagued mankind for centuries and still, to a certain extent, remains unknown." He idly tossed the egg in his hand, watching it rise and fall. "I want you all to pretend that this egg is thousands of times smaller than a pinhead. Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny tiny and is also hotter and denser than anything our human minds can imagine." He paused and looked around the classroom at everyone, were they all visualizing this? Yes? Good. Then, without warning, he tossed the egg especially high into the air and took a BIG step to the right and simply allowed the egg to fall to the ground of the classroom with a SPLAT. "Can anyone tell me what this was a crude illustration of?" OOC: This lesson has officially started! Please do not post your character arriving now or else risk loss of house points for your house or some other punishment that Professor Flamsteed feels is appropriate. If you are joining us now, please just pretend as though your character has been here all along :D |
Christmas thought about this and raised her hand and said "The egg came first professor and i think that it looks like an illustration of sick" |
Travel back in time? Cool! It was too bad it was only figuratively. Literally would be awesome! Adi leaned forward in excitement as Professor Airey reached into the box and pulled out...a chicken egg. Adi blinked. He was expecting something a lot more exciting. He was sure everyone knew what a chicken egg looked like. Okay, so Adi was picturing a very, very, very, very tiny thing. And it was hot. And dense. Okay. Adi watched in shock as Airey dropped the egg. Erm...smashed raw eggs were not nice. But the second year raised a hand. "The Big Bang, Professor?'' |
Laura just sat there, she seriously wasn't in the mood for this, how old was this Professor anyway six. Shaking her head she sighed as she slowly raised her hands. "Was it just to get attention?" Laura asked rolling her eyes a bit as she looked at the Professor. "You wanted everyone's attention so you decided to throw the egg on the floor." |
When Airey pointed out that Professor Dursley was waving at him, Tobias waved back at the bass. Manners, see? Real important. But the lesson then started and Tobias actually opened his mouth to answer the 'chicken or the egg' question, 'cause he KNEW it. It actually wasn't that hard. Instead he held back and waited and made some notes. Toby looked up from his notes just in time to see Professor Flamsteed tossing the egg up into the air and letting it fall. Like actually fall. And splat. He wrinkled his nose slightly and stared at the egg whilst he heard other students give their answers. His immediate answer, The Big Bang, was gone. But that didn't mean he couldn't sort of get close to it. "Atoms exploding?" Tobias suggested as he raised his hand, feeling an unfamiliar twinge or protest in his muscles as he did so. "Or technically more like one atom. The first one, which is hot and dense 'cause it contains everything that'll make the universe." See? He was trying to make links here. Trying. It was just hard to try and remember what he'd read about this stuff, if he'd read anything at all. The boy lowered his hand again and absentmindedly rotated his shoulder, trying to stretch out the stiffness a bit. |
"The fact that there had to be something there in the first place for the Universe to begin, at a sub-atomic level, hence asking us to picture the egg as being tiny, yet we still don't know how those sub-atomic particles, like quarks were created, because there likely would have needed to be some reaction before they came into existence. So in that way would theories about the creation of the Universe be similar to the simpler question, what came first the chicken or the egg?" Ana postulated as she sunk further into her desk, hand only half raised, as she rested one elbow on the other arm to keep it in the air. Normally she'd be sitting upright and all into this discussion, especially when it seemed to involve physics, a subject she, like her brother Sasha, was passionate about. Right now though she was so tired that she couldn't even be completely sure that she was describing the theory that quarks were the building blocks of life correctly. "Because quarks and antiquarks are the foundation of all the other particles, which led to the Big Bang," Ana tacked on as an afterthought when she realised she maybe hadn't made clear why quarks were important. Laura's response was enough to get her to look up and she couldn't help but roll her eyes at the elder girl. If she wasn't so sleepy she might have even said something at this point. As it was she decided that the elder girl obviously had no idea how wonderful all of this was, and probably shouldn't have even bothered attending class. Even Ana knew that Professor Airey didn't need to drop an egg, wasting good food, just to get people's attention. His debonair suit and talking to the fish did that well enough. |
Okay, so the fish is professors, was he cursed or am animagus, but why would anyone choose a fish for that? She listened as the professor greeted more people. Oh, he's an animal lover, that it explains. But having conversations with you're pet is still a little strange. But whatever, to each their own The lesson soon progressed and Oichi a picture that looked like an egg appear on the board an open ended question about it. [I]So whatever the lesson is today, it has something to do with something egg shaped and astronomy. The most common thing would be the sun because the picture is also yellow, but the sun isn't shaped like an egg. But I remember reading about a egg shaped dwarf planet. Could this class really be about something so obscure, only one way to find out. Oichi raised her hand and answered, "I know this is quite obscure but that picture looks like an egg to me and I happened to read about a dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt called Haumea. This planet is also believed to bs made of crystaline water. I'm not sure how that would work but it sounds awesome to me". |
What in the merlin was that for? Hannah did not like messes and this was a nasty one. All she knew was that the egg had better not start stinking! If he was going to go around and throw things she would need more warning because frankly it would take her five minutes to even get up. "I think the phoenix came first." Not that, that was really the question. As far at the egg smashing into floor she immediately thought of the big bang theory. She heard a few other people mention it but she didn't want to be left behind. Her hand went into the air. "I think you are demonstrating the big bang. The universe was in a very hot state at the time and it quickly went boom... like the egg." |

Looking around the room for any supicious students wanting to take off his hat, Kevin turned his mismatched eyes back to the obviously weird Professor and tried to focus on what he was saying. They were going back in time billions of years?! Like for real?! The Gryffindor was suddenly getting excited and he sat a little righter in his chair until the man picked up a egg and asked them to visualize...something. Mweh! Boring. Without trying to visualize anything, he placed his free hand (the other was still on his baseball cap to keep it safe on his head) and rested his chin in his hand. Soooo....what did a splashing egg had to do with astronomy? ...he had no idea. But he did know that he was hungry now. Thanks a lot. |
Benjy had roughly de-linted before heading to his seat, and like Mo, was wincing a little from Quidditch practice. It appeared that the muscles he used for skateboarding weren't the same at those used for Quidditch, and apparently he'd thrown himself into the sport a bit more zealously that his body could cope with. Of course, the walk seven floors down to dinner, and another seven floors back up again really hadn't helped. Regardless, here he was, with relatively de-linted robes, and he was already distracted by the bass. Seriously, what an ugly fish to keep. It made Flipper, Benjy's toad, look positively pretty. Heh. The smashing egg soon got the sixth year's attention though. "Either an easy way to make a mess of your classroom, and start a food fight," Benjy answered, tilting his head so he could see the oozing mess on the floor, "Or , more likely, something to do with the big bang?" |
What came first, the phoenix or the flame? That was an interesting question. Ella considered it for a few minutes before raising her hand. "Perhaps the phoenix was around first and the first time it burst into flames, fire was recorded. That could be a thing...maybe." As for the egg thing, Ella's eyes widened when it was smashed on the floor. She glanced over at the boyfriend, wondering if she needed to point out that this was not the way to properly crack an egg. Y'know, since the boyfriend had cooking troubles in that particular department. No egg smashing on the floor, Summers. Nope. And she agreed with the Big Bang thing, y'know? They'd learned about that when she'd been attending muggle school. Even did a little experiment with a balloon filled with glitter for a visual. Soph would have liked that. Anyway... "It's like what Toby said, Profesor. The idea was that the universe was stuck in this little compressed area all hot and bothered until it couldn't take it any more and BAM...the big bang happened and that released the universe, sort of. Let it expand and stuff." |
It seemed like the professor was equally as concerned about Lex's odd question as Terry himself was. He glanced at the Gryffindor before turning back to the Professor with a nod. "I'll try my best" he responded. But she obviously had a mind of her own and he knew how vicious the Lion's could become when they wanted to. Terry certainly didn't want to stand in between Lex and what she wanted. As for the start of the lesson, Terry's nose scrunched up slightly when the Professor mentioned the Phoenix and the fire scenario. This question always ended up in a heated debate in which no one actually knew the answer and it was pretty impossible to ever find it out. Unless you had a time turner which could take you back millions of billions of years. He decided not to partake in answering this question, partly because he didn't actually know the answer. But then Professor Flamsteed did something rather odd, picking up an egg and smashing it on the floor. He wasn't going to clean that mess up. The boy raised his hand, a slight smirk on his face. "An extremely odd method for baking a cake?" he suggested, glancing briefly at the messed up yolk on the floor. He chuckled but a though was sent through his mind whether the Professor was actually able to take a joke. "Or of course it could be an unusual representation of the big bang using food." He could think of a better way to use an egg though. Preferably in a cake or an omelette. His stomach was grumbling just thinking of the possibilities. |
Oh good, she didn't have to wait long for the class to start. She'd come in at a good time then. And there was only an egg in the box. That was sorta disappointing since usually things that were hidden from the class were more interesting, but whatever. So what could a splattered egg be an illustration of. Hmm. Well considering what he began the lesson with before he smashed the egg...she raised her hand a little, just enough to be seen. Raising it too high took too much effort. "I'm guessing it's supposed to be an illustration of how the universe began. Or at least how people think it did now." However it should be worded. But that was all she was offering as an answer, so her hand went down again. |
............. ....................... Er..."What...?" The Gryffindor's brows crinkled in confusion. "Lottie's not dumb enough to get herself transfigured into a piece of musical instrument and even if by some wild chance it happened, I wouldn't let anyone blow her up." The hell did that have to do with a fish? He could have just said no and be done with it, no need to be giving her serious looks. NO ONE WAS BLOWING UP HER BESTIE! Ahem. The Gryffindor resisted the urge to make a face at the man and instead went to take her seat--oh that now had a Terry sitting next to it. "Hey." She muttered, completely over the fish. Pffft. Dumb fish. Lex trained her eyes on the box, that was the only thing that still held any interest to her and listen while he revealed...an egg. .... Okay. The girl would wait to see where this was going as it clearly wasn't headed in the direction of black holes and explosions. Just fish rights. The splat took her by some surprize, given the Professor's dislike of messes but she willed herself to focus. "Im gonna guess it's an illustration of the Big Bang Theory I've heard about on account of that's what everyone else said." Copy cat answer? YUP, because Lex's mind was still back on the Professor suggesting they blow up her bestfriend. |
No Shave November? That was coming up, wasn't it? Maybe he could take part in it, then. He'd... need to find out how the Head Girlfriend felt about itchy kisses. And speaking of the Head Girlfriend, Alec GRINNED at her when she came to sit down next to him. Hey there. And fistbumps for you too, Romalotti. He turned his attention towards the front again where... oh. An egg? One that was-- ... BLINK. So THAT was how you smash an egg open. Was it? He glanced over a Ells, as if asking for justification. It wouldn't be smashed against the floor, no, but maybe on the bowl? He'd hold the egg up and let it drop and... smash! Something to try the next time he made anything that had egg as an ingredient. Trying to get his mind around whether the phoenix or the flame came first only confused the seventh year. Trying to think about chickens and eggs only made him hungry so... he wasn't going to answer that question. Move on to the next one? He looked down at the mess on the floor curiously. The Big Bang was right, according to him. "I... agree with the idea that it represents the big bang," he said, hand in the air, "Like the egg, it probably got hotter and hotter before the impact and then the explosion happened and... then it cooled down. And the insides of the egg are still spreading," Right? "... but slower than at first. Sort of... like the way the universe is still expanding today." |
Ian looked up as the professor began to speak. He lifted up and egg, asked a question and tossed the egg and allowed it to smash on the ground. Ian thought about this and wondered what he thought about it as other students around him answered the question. It was sort of odd, allowing the egg to crash to the ground. Ian found the student's comments about the big bang a little off, as that theory had the idea that supercompressed atoms exploded. That would have been better illustrated using pressure applied to the egg. Ian raised his hand and offered a couple ideas. "I'm guessing it is an illustration of the effects of gravity or perhaps 'for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction'. He just didn't buy the big bang idea, even though this was an astronomy class. |
Strand listened as the others gave their answers before raising his hand. "Professor I agree with some of those who mentioned that what you were demonstrating is known as the Big Bang Theory. The egg represents how the universe looked like in the beginning. It was just very hot, small and dense with no stars, atoms or structure. Like everything which is hot, it expands. So that's what the universe did, the hotter it got, the more it expanded. Until about 14 billion years later it suddenly expanded very quickly, and then 'boom' the Big Bang happened." Sander paused for effect. "It's like blowing into a balloon. It expands until it has reached it's maximum stretching point and then like the universe, it explodes." Sander added. Was it relevant to his answer, he believed it did. It just showed that something can expand so much before eventually something else has to happen to slow down its process. "Anyway, when that great expansion happened it resulted in the formation of atoms, which led to the creation of the stars and the galaxies. The universe is still expanding though only at a slower pace now," Sander concluded. "As for which comes first, the Phoenix or the flame, I would have to say the flame for without it the Phoenix wouldn't burn into ashes and regenerate from that stasis. Hence, no Phoenix," Sander added what his thoughts were on that matter. |
Disappointed. They could not even get the box open. Well it was a pretty awesome box anyway even if it only had a measly chicken egg in it. After listening for a tiny bit. He understood were Flamsteed was going with this. Big Bang and all that. Still was a waste of a perfectly good egg. Just dropping it like that. Should he say scrambled egg because that is what it looks like. "Something you should never get on your suit. It seems like it would take forever to clean it off the suit" Even with magic. Or you know the the start of the big bang and the formation of the universe. Both seemed right to Nigel. |
SPOILER!!: Egg-citing Beginning"[QUOTE=sweetpinkpixie;11522793][color="#cc0000 Hope just sighed and took her seat. Her Professor was right. she may not have received an answer. However, it seemed that the thing in the box was important to the lesson. Out of the box came...an egg? She stared as he tossed it and caught it. Tossed it and allowed it to splatter onto the classroom floor. It was all interesting, but his words were far more attention grabbing than his actions. She raised her hand and gave a small smile. "Well, I would like to think that the answer to the whole flame or phoenix and egg or chicken thing, isn't really an answer of which came first at all. It's a never ending circle, much like the creation of everything in the universe, equal and opposite reactions and all. So really, what you just did was disrupt that circle. It will have an equal and opposite reaction to everything involved in or around it, potentially. The same could be said for stars and planets and well, everything." Boy that seemed like a mouthful to her ears. Maybe she should have shortened her answer. Oh, well. |
Marigold knew this! She had gotten a bit obsessive after her grandpa... passed away and so she chose Astronomy to be crazy about. She raised her hand and waved it around excitedly. "The Big Bang, sir. I read that it started when everything was just so compact that it rapidly expanded and created our universe!" BEAAAAM. But why the whole box thing for a single egg? |
Text Cut: Lex and Airey! Death. Her eyes were on the little mess Airey just made. Honestly, not to sound too dark or anything, but life and death did come up a lot in these lessons. Not in the exact same way as black holes, though, so he shouldn't worry about Lotus overreacting to it again. Plus, this was technically LIFE. Big bang theory and all. Oh, wow, Nigel, you're so clever trying to win over the Professor with comments about suits and cleanliness. Lottie rolled her eyes at it. It being the comment, not Nigel. Though, that could work too. Anyway, her hand was up. "External forces' manipulation." Why, yes, she was talking about the Ravenclaw Prefect. Now, "But seriously, if we take you out of the equation, Professor, then I'd agree on the Big Bang theory, nuclear reactions and all, if not... then it's outside forces and their consequences." He did illustrate everything from the moment he took the egg, no? |
Emma gasped, watching the egg fall and splat on the ground. Poor baby chicken didn't even have a chance.."I think that the phoenix came first professor.. and I believe what you were just trying to demonstrate was the beginning of the creation of the universe, otherwise known as the big bang." She smiled a little, turning her attention back to the egg. Poor birdy baby. Shudder. |
She sat and listened with her hand supporting her chin. Of all the thing she imagined that might be in that box, an egg wasn't really an idea that occured to her. But that got her more interested as to why was their an egg here in the classroom. Surely, the professor's words started making sense, or at least gave an idea about what this lesson is about. The question which he posed about which came first was one she never could decide on an answer for and she doubted there even was a scientific answer. And then they were dropping eggs. Ok. She paused listening to other's thoughts and answers before formulating her own answer. "Like others said, it must have to do with the Big Bang. Like the egg represents the trigger that started the whole thing." She said upon raising her hand. |
Awar winced as the egg splattered on the floor, "Uhhh...well it just looks like a clear illustration of what gravity does..." hehehehe, "But, I suppose it has something to do with the beginning of the Universe or something." and a really weird and gross way of doing so. |
Was it bad that all West could think was 'a waste of an egg'? Because honestly, he was hungry. He eyed the remains of said egg and wondered why it was necessary to waste food as part of an astronomy demonstration when there were so many alternative methods to show simple concepts. He didn't even answer, he was so internally distraught about wasted food. |
Gwen knew the answer to this! She was nearly bouncing out of her seat as her hand went up. Being a muggleborn was turning out to be good for something, right? "You're illustrating an event known as the Big Bang! It's the most commonly accepted theory as to how the universe began. The universe is still, expanding from that point, see? So they think it must have all been compacted, then it exploded and here we are!" Which brought on all sorts of controversy. Like 'could an explosion in a printing press create a dictionary?' The human body of course being the dictionary in the analogy, but Gwen figured it had taken a long time for evolution to get it right, so she mostly accepted the theory. |
Ahem, yes. So the professor had noticed Mo's trouble getting up and it earned a comment, which was pretty embarassing. Maybe he WAS working too hard, but at least his players weren't... oh, nope. Benjy was looking pretty rough too. Nigel, at least, had that same cool approach to the world as usual. Maybe they all could just take a page out of Ni's book. As the egg spread across the floor, Mo wrinkled his nose and offered, "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move." Look, Professor. Mo Branxton has been doing reading about SPACE TRAVEL. Of sorts. |
Caleb had been sitting quietly in the corner and wrinkled his eyebrows as Flamsteed dropped...an egg. What? This was not nearly as cool as the flying thing from last term. BUT it dawned on him what that egg was supposed to represent. He raised his hand quickly. "That's meant to represent the Big Bang. There was one atom, or something, and it exploded and the whole universe came out of it," he explained. And that concluded Caleb's knowledge on the Big Bang. But he had always wondered - where did the first molecules come from? WHO PUT THEM THERE? |
Class began and the professor revealed what he had been hiding in the box. An egg? What was that about in relation to astronomy? Was there an egg constellation? Listening to the man speak of the phoenix and the flame or the chicken and egg (was that the reason for the egg?) Ben was doing his best to try and follow. He himself had no clue as to what came first, nor why the hair that kept falling in front of his face seemed off to him for that matter. Some of the strands didn't look normal...were they dirty...were they grey? Ben absently shook his head to clear his mind and focus better on what was being said. Oh...okay...so the egg was meerly a tool to demonstrate. And the creation of the universe made sense in context, his classmates seemingly pretty certain of their answer so he simply remained quiet and listened. |
Lux was still feeling rather awkward seeing this Professor after the whole bathroom incident, but the starting of the class was enough to get her to forget about it and be very eager to learn. Listening to him teach while tossing the egg, she looked to the floor as it splattered and made a big mess. Not really knowing much about space, she still knew the answer to this one as it was what started the whole universe and she would be silly to not know where the universe came from. Raising her hand, she gave her answer. "That would be the Big Bang. It is said that something small exploded in space and that is where the universe came from." |
Brynn spent much of the beginning of the class with her eyes on the fish in the tank, though she periodically tried to focus at least some of her attention on the Astrolo- ..er, Astronomy professor while he spoke. But she was so curious about if that fish really was a person trapped inside. Sure, she knew a little bit about animagi, but she had never seen one in person.. or in fish. She was suddenly startled out of her reverie however when she heard a loud SPLAT and her eyes snapped to first the professor and then to the egg on the floor. Uh.. what? What did it represent.. Brynn thought that question over carefully as she thoughtfully tapped the top of her quill against her chin. She didn't really have time to give it much thought though as many other students offered their own ideas. Most of them said Big Bang and she remembered hearing that term in her homeschooling studies, though she wasn't all that familiar with it other than what some of her classmates said. That was probably it then. Maybe she should take some notes if she couldn't add anything else. Brynn opened her parchment journal to the first blank page and wrote: B i g B a n g T h e o r y.. but she waited till the professor explained to add any more in her notes. Some of them used such scientific words that she didn't quite grasp so maybe he would make it slightly more elementary. |

"A failed attempt to make an omelette?" she volunteered dryly, not even bothering to deign the question with a proper answer. If he wanted to explain something to them, he could easily do so without messy, slimy metaphors. |
Kace was excited for this class. Huh? Only one fish? Kace thought there was more. He smiled and nodded and went back to his seat. He heard the professor making his speech to the class. He saw an egg and gave it a quizzical look. What does an egg have to do with Astronomy? He waited a few more minutes before asking a question and then he saw it splat. Uh...now the professor was asking what the egg splatting was an illusion of? Kace had NO idea. But he raised his hand and said, "Uhh...the illusion of being clumsy?" That is what he thought. |
Sophie leeeeeeeaned over and watched the egg as if it was a part of the best demonstration there ever was. She eyed it until SPLAT...it was no more. Oh, well. She sat up straight again and raised her hand. "I think the phoenix came first," she said. "I think it just went POOF and appeared after that egg dropped." Err... "I mean, the big bang theory, which is why I think you dropped that egg." |
Quote:
And he was starting class already? The fact that her face was still contorted in pain paired with the continued throbbing of her knee meant Alice was far less interested in the crude demonstration as she would have normally been. It was obvious what the egg was meant to represent and all, but she didn't have the heart to add to her classmates' answers right now. Stupid knee. "You just wasted an egg, sir." Shame on him. |
Robin was startled when the egg made a giant SPLAT on the floor. She sat stunned for a moment and the only thought that came to her mind was who's going to clean that up? She would if he needed help cleaning up but she forced herself to think of the question. The chicken or the egg huh? Well she could look at it from so many views she didn't know where to begin. "Well um, I think the chicken did sir, or a version of it, through evolution and stuff until it stopped evolving and became a chicken it must have started out as something that wasn't an egg, I think you just showed us was the creation of the flame? like the flame of a phoenix formed suddenly, like how the egg was dropped?" She slunk down in her seat, face flushing from embarrassment. "Oh and do you want me to help, um, clean that up?" |
Bart found his seat and took out a parchment even though he probably wouldn't be using it he hadn't used it yet in any class. First time for everything though, right? Like that fish did he say it was someone like a person? That confused the second year so he didn't ask anymore questions. Then Flamedude started the lesson did the flame come before the phoenix what type of question was that. It was odd what did it really matter. Then he had an egg and he splattered it all over his floor. THAT WAS AWESOME! Did he have more could they do that? His hand went up, "Professor clearly the flame came first without the flame there would be no Phoenix. That was soo cool do we get to splatter eggs too?" What was it an illustration of who knows. "Are you demonstrating how quickly the groundskeeper is going to come fry an egg on your head when he finds out you are wasting his three breakfast meals?" Did he get it? Did he? Frying an egg on your head since he was using eggs... Bazinga! |
Chicken and the egg joke? Big Bang Theory? Where were these people coming up with some of these ideas. Lily was thinking a lot more about the fact that the professor had said to think of the egg as something smaller... much smaller. A star perhaps? "Does it possibly signify the death of a star, far out in a galaxy?" The seventh year asked having put her hand up to answer the question. It made sense, seeing as the egg had exploded on impact basically. Stars did that, right?? When they died? |
Asher listened to all the others responses. He liked some of them and agreed with the Big bang theory one, the most. Anyway he though about the phoenix or the flame, chicken or the egg. And the Airey dropping the egg. He raised his hand "Professor Airey, did you want your egg sunnyside up or scrambled?" Haha get it Sunnyside. Sun Astronomy. Yeah. Seriously, though what he wanted to say had already been said. No sense in repeating it. Right? Right. |
Blush. Blush. He DID remember her. The third year was a little relieved he hadn't forgotten her. Her grandmother had once mentioned that quiet people are forgotten quite easily, and even if she told herself not to let it bother her, it did. BUT. Professor Flamsteed-Airey- hadn't forgotten. INNER BEAM. Caught off guard, she jumped in her seat at the SPLAT. Geez. Did someone not appreciate their protein? Beverly blinked at the professor with big eyes. Could he do it again? Oh. Wait. It was related to the lesson. Okay. She thought about the phoenix and flame bit first. There'd be no flame without a phoenix, but then there'd be no phoenix without the flame. Ugh. Mutation? She decided to focus on the dead egg instead. Obvious much? She raised her hand up shyly. "An explosion." |
............. Well, that was unexpected. Totally and completely unexpected. And, as some mentioned, a waste of a perfectly good egg. But it was obvious what the egg dropping was supposed to represent. She had been beaten to the punch, however, so instead of repeating what had already been said, Layla prepared for note taking. There was something bothering her though. "Professor, are you okay? I mean, I could hear your knuckles cracking from here." Everyone had heard that, right? It wasn't just her? |
SPOILER!!: Flamsteed Schuyler bit back a grin when Professor Flamsteed couldn't seem to meet her eyes. And the way his voice cracked! Precious. She actually made a mental note, when the thought popped in her head, to see if she could dig out some old yearbooks from the library. See what her professors were like as students at Hogwarts. Three guesses that Airey tripped over himself three times as much back then as he did now. "Nothing else borrowed, fortunately." And it was nice of him to ask. But now she was in her seat and they were starting class. And Flamsteed was dropping an egg onto the floor. Her blue eyes followed it up above his head and then the splatter after it had fallen. What did this symbolize? Big Bang. Didn't have to be a pro astronomer to know that one. And a lot of other people started spewing out this answer, so Schuyler just wore a little smile and dipped her quill in her ink before beginning to doodle a stylized sun in the margin of her paper. |
SPOILER!!: Whit/Alicia, Greetings "Uh.. mate is that a-" and he pointed to his head before he frowned realising that it was kind of SUPER impolite to point something like that out. Uhm. Best keep quiet. "-fishtank?" he finished lamely, pointing at what clearly was a fish tank. Um. Awkward. SPOILER!!: Flamsteed "The big bang!" Lucas piped up. "But I don't think a guy in a suit dropped an egg and created the universe. But yeah. Close enough." And anyway it was a COOL demonstration. Way cool. |
Well he was certainly one for the dramatics wasn't old Airey? Michael was glad that he wasn't sitting near the front otherwise he would probably be wearing some of that egg. He raised his hand when the Professor asked his question. "Besides being a very messy situation. I agree with everyone else that it is a representation of the Big Bang. The end of one thing and the beginning of another." Or something like that. |
Miss Asteroid? Of course, it was no big deal for Astrid. She even grinned at the Astronomy Professor. "Sure you can, Professor!" Asteroids were pretty, and having a pretty name was nice. After all, "Miss Asteroid" is what Hayley called her too. Astrid approved of the name anyway. As for the fish, Astrid smiled even more when the Professor said that his pet fish was glad they were here. "Awww! I'm glad that he's here too, Professor." So... she needed more details about the fish. Name? Breed? Age? The vital stuff, you know? But that could wait until the class ended. She knew that it would start in a bit. AND THEN OH MERLIN DID PROFESSOR FLAMSTEED JUST DROP THE EGG? Wibble. Astrid wibbled a bit. Why...? She looked at the fallen egg and blinked. It could've lived a long life if it wasn't dropped. Too bad. Just too bad. Rest in peace, egg. But at least it died for the good of the students. It died for educational purposes. It lived a good life, indeed. But... she didn't know what that illustrated. She'd just have to give it a try. Astrid raised her hand. "It shows one of the bad sides of gravity." Heh. It was true though. |
Man Oichi felt foolish, somehow from the back of the classroom she saw the egg picture but she never saw it get crushed, but obviously her classmates had, now the term crude demonstration made more sense, and the answer she gave already was just plain silly. She raised her hand again and said, "Somehow I did not notice the egg getting crushed but now that I have I'd like to revise my answer. I think it is the demonstration of a meteor, comet, or asteroid hitting a planet because they are destroyed once they hit the ground and the impact and new chemicals they carry as they come hurdling toward a planet can end any life as they know it.". |
Miss Comet, yup! That was her. She would have said something, but that was when the professor person decided to close the doors and start the lesson. Grinning at Astrid instead, she nodded vigorously. They could talk after class, yeah. Walk down the never-ending sets of stairs together too. Quote:
"I think it would be the phoenix. If it was 'Which came first, the [i]ashwinder[/s] or the flame?' we might have a different answer, though." Hayley liked the idea of magical creatures. Her mom dealt with those a lot. But then he was dropping eggs and Hayley didn't really feel very comfortable about it. That was one chicken who gave its life for nothing. Wasn't it sad? As for what it represented, Hayley blinked a few times before giving Astrid a distressed look. How was she supposed to know this? All Hayley could see was the really really sad waste of an egg. No resemblance to Astronomy at all, but she wrote down her classmates' theories too. Did she get it? No. BLINK. |
SPOILER!!: prof Sarah knew that was not what they were doing, but she wanted to bring ahppieness around, so creative suggestions was one way. UGH! Was that the sound of cracking knuckled? Sarah winced, as the sound grated on her nerves... Who did that? Sarah watched with interest the profossor as he began to talk.. than came the egg. By now Sarah had guessed what was going on and raised "Maybe it is abour the Big Bang Theory" Sarah emphasied the latter part, a theory it will always be. "There is a THEORY that long long ago... scientists are always adding years as to them time is infinite, and it takes a lot of years for their theory to make slight sense... there was a ball of something that exploded on the earth and supposedly made the world we live in, which started a chain of events called evolution... its a long story. Like all muggles science discoveries it is ikely to be debated on, changed, swayed, adapted forever more. Because scientists can never agree on anything" Sarah than eyed the egg on the floor, "Professor" she said in a calm voice, keeping her voice polite, "is it possible that if in the future you have to do such demonstrations you don't use food? Because It breaks my heart to see food wasted, food that could be put to better use" Also, she did not think nice things about people that waasted and she did not want to think that about the professor. |
Ian sat there and listened as all the different ideas about what the egg dropping was about. Of course he was still sure it didn't represent the big bang, but hey! he was just a muggle kid in a magical world in an astronomy class. What did he know. He reached up to scratch his head as all these answers floated about. When he went to take his hand down, he felt some of his hair come with it. When he looked down, he saw red hairs and oddly enough he also saw a few white ones. That was strange. I've never seen white hairs come off my head. And so many of them at one time. He shrugged and decided it was nothing. He was unaware that his hair was now red streaked throughout with bits of white. (he tended not to use a mirror to comb his hair as it was easier to just brush his hands through it after his morning shower). |
Tora knew Professor Flamsteed was referring to the Big Bang at the beginning of the universe, but she could relate it father back than that. The chicken and the egg, the phoenix and the flame. "Is this about the theory that the Big Bang was caused by a black hole in another universe?" she said, raising her hand to speak. She felt the need to elaborate though, just in case the professor didn't understand. "I mean the one where every black hole is a parent to another universe and that the black holes trigger what begins the Big Bangs of other worlds. Not String Theory... but the other one. I forget what it's called," she gave a hopeful grin. She might be reading too much into it, but it did fulfill the phoenix and the flame analogy. |
Vesper was already jotting notes, remaining quiet as the Professor greeted the class and began speaking; a slew of information leaving his mouth. She appreciate Professor Flamsteed. He was such a cheerful man and it was hard to feel gloomy in his presence. That and she liked the exuberance. She vaguely wondered if there would be desk hopping today... When he dropped the egg, causing it to bust, the Ravenclaw's first thought was 'Murder'...but she was sure he didn't mean it to symbolize that in particular. Everyone was mentioning the Big Bang Theory, in while case the cosmos were created...according to literature. Of course, that just made her think about Greek mythology and the Chaos Theory. It also made her question how closely related science and myths were. As someone who did a ton of thinking, Vesper had her own theories about all the things and for now, choose to just listen. There wasn't much she could offer now...but it was still early in the lesson. Maybe with the next question... For now, she began to sketch the egg falling in it's various stages; falling, then connecting with the ground and cracking...and then whites and yolk exploding from the scattered shell. |
