Default Round Two, Task Three

You walk into the arena and as soon as you are in, the gates close behind you with a final, ominous rattle. All is silent as you take your first few steps forward... until a loud rustling sound seems to come from the ground beneath your feet.

Oh no, the grass is growing! And at a rate you can't even imagine! Hedges ten feet tall start to sprout from the earth in an intricate, tight pattern, with twists and turns every so often. The gate out on the other side of the arena is lost to your sight as the maze consumes you at the edge.

Be careful, though, as you are not the only soul lost in this maze. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked and you just might be able to hear the growls, rumbles, and squawks of the animals within. You'd best get started.... it appears to be a long, dark walk to the other side.

Beau walked into the area and waited for Adele to join him. The grass was growing!! Really tall!! After the grass had finished he sighed, mazes oh how he hated them. Looking back over at Adele he said, "Lets get started!" He started walking it would be a long walk.

follow me; everything is all right.

As the student started into the maze, a deep silence grew around him. The hedges, for all intents and purposes, seemed capable of muffling out all sounds from earlier... except for that soft clacking, tearing, and chomping noise up ahead and to the left. Hmmmmmmm. What animal could THIS noise belong to?

Beau started to walk ahead it was silent, mostly silent. He could hear a soft chomping noise from up ahead. He gulped realizing the sound was coming from the left side of the fork in the maze. "Left or Right." Smirking Beau whispered to himself left. Taking his wand just in case it was something terrible, Beau turned to the left and prepared himself for what he would see. Who was making the soft tearing and chomping noises?

It was just a hippogriff, munching through a dead ferret! The hippogriff swallowed the rest of his meal whole and tilted his head at the male student as he approached. Both yellow eyes seemed to lock on the boy's as the hippogriff engaged him in a staring contest.

Best not blink.

Beau gulped as he rounded the corner. What horrid creature could be making that noise? It could be anything! Something that could kill them in an instant for sure! Beau breathed a breath of relief as he saw it was a Hippogriff. Wasn't there certain rules for this animal.. Don't touch the feathers. Pluck? But that was after he bowed right? He took a baby step forward and bowed ever so slightly looking up to see if the hippogriff would bow itself.. If not he was so out of there. He remembered being told not to insult the Hippogriff. So if he tried to raise before the Hippogriff bowed would he get "beat up" by the Hippogriff??

The hippogriff waited it out, waiting to make sure the boy's intentions were pure. Then he bowed in return and remained on the ground, as though waiting for the boy to come closer.

Beau breathed a sigh of relief the hippogriff had accepted him. He straightened and looked at the creature. What was it doing? He stepped forward and slowly placed his hand on the hippogriff. Well this was cool, he had never touched a hippogriff before. He gave it a nice careful stroke, after all these creatures were known for the strength. Especially when insulted. But he wasn't going to insult it. As he stroked the creature he silently wondered what importance the creature was to his task, or if the creature was just placed as just another test.

He stroked it and looked at the creature, "I am going to name you hope tha's okay." He put his hand on his chin... What did it look like. "Ah what about Magique? It means magical in French." That way if it was a girl or a boy it would have a nice name.

Magique. The hippogriff quite liked that name. He bobbed his head and waited for the boy to hop on him. How else was he going to get to the centre of the maze? By walking? Why walk when you could fly?

Beau smiled, the hippogriff seemed pleased with his new name. Seeing him bob his head, Beau took that as him wanting Beau to get on and so he did! Well hopefully thats what Magique wanted because he was now sitting on the animal. He gave him a pat and then smiled, "Well Magique I hope you know where we are supposed to go because you are my only clue that has been given to me.. So lead the way Magique!" Hopefully it knew the way otherwise they would be flying all over this maze!

The hippogriff let out a contented caw and took off as soon as the boy patted his head. He had better hold on tight.

It was a short but breathtaking trip, however, and pretty soon, the hippogriff was galloping back to the ground. As all four feet touched the ground, he slowly decreased in speed to a canter, trot, walk, and finally a stop. Magique delivered the students to right in front of a brilliant stone fountain with a gargoyle topper.

His work here seemed to be done, so he bowed his knees once again and gracefully rested his wings.

Beau hadn't expected it to zoom off. So accidentally he tightened his grip on the hipogriff's feathers. It was a short trip and he loved it. He had to speak to his father about finding one of these things. They were amazing. AS they reached the ground he waited for him to stop before he jumped down. Looking at the stone hmm so they would have to do something with this??? Looking at Magique he asked, "Zank you Magique." He looked around was there any clues. Because honestly he had zero idea what to do next. He went back over to Magique and sighed. Maybe he was looking to hard.

The hippogriff let out a happy little caw and flicked his horse tail at the boy. Was he forgetting something? There was a tiny, neatly wrapped little scroll there.
Text Cut: Scroll
Work your way to the center of the maze,
And animate me if you'd like some praise.
Face of stone, tongue of cement,
Please bring me to life. I'm heaven-sent!

ooc: just a reminder that this task will be wrapping up in the next 12 or so hours.

Beau heard Magique caw, he quickly turned and face the bird, and grimaced he had it the whole time. Chuckling he took it from him and said "Well zank you for giving it to me." He gave him a pet before opening up the scroll and reading it. He had gotten better at reading the English language since he had been at Hogwarts for a while now. Center of the maze. He was there. Animate me? Face of stone?? He turned around and saw the fountain with the gargoyle on top. Well perfect!!

Okay now next line, please bring me to life. Bring me to life? He put his hand on his chin and started to pace. Slowly he looked up and loudly said "Mais bien sûr que c'est elle!" He chuckled as he realized he had spoken in French again. Since it wanted to be animated he could use Piertotum Locomotor.

But what should the command be. Looking at the thing he smirked. But it couldn't talk what could it do... Hmm maybe he could just say give us some praise.

He took a breath and did the wand movement and said "Piertotum Locomotor." and now the command part, "Walk down 'ere and give us some praise please."

Oh that spell was music to his ears. It was great being able to move again. The stone gargoyle nimbly hopped down from fountain level to fountain level, until he was on the same earth as the Frenchie.

"Finally, I can talk," he remarked dryly. He put his little palms on his back and cracked it a bit as he leaned back to get a good look at the competitor. "Here's your praise: Congratulations, you survived the first part of this task. The last part should be easy for you. Are you any good at transfiguration?" He squinted up at the lad. "I've got a spell to teach you."

He supposed he ought to wait for more commands then.

Yes! It worked, a smile appeared on his face! Fantastic... And look it was speaking. He had never been praised so weirdly before.... Oh well he would accept it anyways. "Zank you. And yes I believe I am very good at Transfiguration." A new spell.. Hmm.

"Teach me this new spell please.

With his pretend wand at the ready, the gargoyle raised his wand and clearly said speculum catábulum while doing a reverse Z wand movement.

"I hope your minds are sharp, I'm only showing you once." He cleared his gargoyle throat and continued.

My time with you has ended at last
Your winged companion you must turn to glass
Only then will you be free
Because there in lies your key

Beau was ready he carefully watched the talking stone gargoyle. The wand movement was easy just a reverse Z. And then speculum catábulum. My time with you has ended, he was leaving or turning back to stone. Your winged companion... Magique!.. Must turn to glass... Well then... Only then will you be free. So when he turned him into glass it would be one of the last steps before they were free.

Where was the winged companion, "Magique?? Where did you go?" he asked as he looked around the center of the maze.

Oooh yeah that was the spot right there. The hippogriff tucked his beak under his wing and gave it a good scratch but then he heard his name and came trotting back to the boy. Magique here reporting for duty.
