You enter into the History of Magic Classroom to find that it set up just like a standard classroom. Desks are set up in rows, but the ones that are closest to the window are faced curved slightly so that turning your neck to stare outside and daydream would cause serious stiffness in the neck later on. Professor Dursley likes to have your full attention. Sitting on each of the desks is a note card. On the top right corner simple instructions are written to write your name, house, and year. Once you do so the note card will stick to that desk. You are expected to be in that seat all term.
Overhead are lamps with the lights shinning brightly, some extra incentive again to make sure you are are going to stay focused and not doze off. Surely you hadn't taken his words seriously about developing insomnia and had gotten a good nights sleep instead. This was after all an afternoon class. Any excuse to be tired will be brushed off as just that, an excuse.
At the very front of the class, is a blackboard, and a pull-down screen.
Professor Dursley is at the Front sitting at his desk feet propped up on it. All dressed up as properly as he could minus some shoes. He'd normally wear his sandals, but today was a no shoes day. In fact, as you enter you'll notice the blackboard has some instructions. Take your shoes off, socks too. If you want Enjoy the free feeling of wiggling those toes. Class will start soon so get comfy. Sitting on his lap was a book about Animagus Transformations...for dummies... some light reading while everyone came in.
OOC: I opened a tad early. settle in, say hello, converse with each other, I'll begin class tomorrow afternoon. (around 3pm EST...also early than stated previously) Remember to follow class rules, and not to post arriving late after I begin.
CLASS IS NOW IN SESSION DO NOT POST LATE COMING IN!
The last Triwizard Tournament. Yes, Claudette knew a bit about that. Even if it had been slightly before her time in formal school, they talked about it often at her old school and she knew several of the Beauxbatons representatives names. Raising her hand, she smiled proudly. "One of the champions from Beauxbatons was Noel Laurent," the 16 year old offered. He was quite good looking too. She had seen pictures.

Mmkay. Just checking on the dude. It'd be quite a lost if the guys survived the tournament only to die a few years after it. Oh and he also had a tattoo shop. How did the others know though. Cassia gave them curious looks. And more shoes' confiscating happened. The snake made a mental note to wear nice shoes just in case she deserved such penalty.
On to the next question. Good thing they were discussing the most recent tournament, the one that Cassia did know about. Oh, and there was Dora sitting next to Alice. She knew the eagle didn't like to talk about this stuff. She wondered how she was feeling now. Though nothing showed on her face.
As others mentioned names and facts, the fifth-year raised her hand, "One of the Hogwarts representative was Cameron Caddock. Gryffindor prefect at that time." And she was the only girl! Good for her!

He did have nice hair, that Fletcher dude. Much better than Barty, that was for sure. Ella shot a small smile at Mo cause hair comments were always appreciated, mhm.
And then the Professor was taking points and shoes from that Hannah girl, the Hufflepuff hater or whatever. Ella simply shook her head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. See what ignorant comments got you? Keep your negative comments to yourself please and thanks.
As for the Triwizard tournament, the blonde decided to go off of what another classmate had said since it jogged her memory. "Professor, the tunnel portion was set up so that the people participating had to face certain challenges to retrieve their wands from....Bowtruckles, I think."
You know what was cool about basically being muggleborn? Ascanius actually felt like he was learning things in this class, yeah? Stuff he actually didn't know. He had herd people occasionally talk about the Triwizard Tournament and such, but he, in reality, knew very little about it. S'kind of cool to be honest.
The tournament, not the Professor. He was a derp.
So he just sat back in his seat and listened to the other answers. Fill his brain with knowledge. Smirk. His head wasn't big enough as it was...lies.
Ascanius also had a question, but held it at bay... 'cause he just hating talking in the presence of awkward, derp face in the front of the classroom.
"This is what he is best known for. Winning the Triwizard Tournament.Excellent that you all know this." Truly so long as this was known he could push through the rest of the class.
SPOILER!!: Tattoos
Good to know that a few of them knew he ran a business. "Yes, he owns Paradise Piercings and Tattoo Parlor on Diagon Alley. Good job, I had once considered getting a whole sleeve on both arms a while back, but that's off topic..." Yeah...uh...He was going to be rebellious in his youth and get full sleeves of crazy monsters. That passed though, long before the shop opened.
Oh No! A Dozer-Daydreamer! only one thing he could do. Tiberius shuffled off to the boys desk. Smiled that he had at least taken the time fill out the note card, reached under Mr.Charlton and took on of his shoes. "THANK YOU MR.CHARLTON." He did need another shoe to go along with the one he requested off of Ms.Galloway. "I'll be keeping this one on my desk, I will not ask again that I need Everyone's fullest attention."
Well yes this was good to know as well. Duncan Fletcher was in fact a Hufflepuff. "Correct, you are both in that Fletcher was formerly a Badger, and no Ms. Somerlad I don't mean formerly in the sense that he is dead. Mr.Fletcher is very much alive as we speak." Now who was this girl that had attracted the attention of some Badger glares, and shouts. "Ms.Lockwood." Tiberius addressed her sternly, well...as sternly as he could with the voice he had. "Yes, Duncan Fletcher was not a Duffer. BUT, it was very disrespectful of you to group that term in with a House that some of your classmates belong too." He retrieved her shoes from below her seat, and set them down on his desk. "I'll take three points for the disrespect, and you will be leaving class without your shoes today. I'll decide when I think you can have them back."
It wasn't historical fact...but it was fact none-the-less. "Yeuh he does." What happened to the Ravenclaw like response he had gotten from Mr.Branxton earlier? ...
"He probably gives good high fives."
...
...Farty...Couch...
Okay...yeah. Tiberius floated one of her shoes to he pile of shoes he had just collected on his desk. "Ms.Couch, I am no longer playing games. The Next Note Card had better have the small bit of information I gave simple instructions for." He'll give her credit where it's due though. That silly name could only have come from Barty Crouch, which must have meant she was paying attention in class. "If the next one does not have what I ask, I will take points, and you too will be walking out of class barefoot." "Only that I found it would be an interesting subject to cover just before the competition officially started Ms.Wheatborn." He gave the Prefect a smile. Glad to know that she had read the Daily Prophet. "I'll briefly touch upon that near the end of class, but good that you brought it up."
"Now, As it was stated by most of you Duncan Fletcher was a Triwizard Champion. Ms.Wisteria had correctly connected that we will be focusing on the this Wizarding competition today, BUT I wish to focus solely on the events of the very Tournament that Mr.Fletcher took part in. I find it important that you all know current Magical History as much as you know of your 1st Wizarding War, or Goblin Rebellions." Even if those were extremely thrilling read about. "Today's News is Tomorrow's History, as I like to say." Does he say that? HE DOES NOW! "What I'm looking for are names. Those who were selected to be champions along with Duncan Fletcher, and other key figures who visited Hogwarts during the Tournament. What were the challenges that they faced, and who came out on top of each challenge. Bonus points for any other historical events that occurred that same year."
OOC: Hiya! So here we go again, One per each of you if you can. be creative, you don't have to know it. If you are interested and need a nice push. You can check out a brief summery here from the Term 26 Yearbook, and Term 26 in the School Archive.
Sarah knew about that man... not about the tattoo part though. At the comment about the professor wanting a tattoo, Sarah shot him a look. Tattoo were gross, in Sarah's opinion. And cheap completely unprincesslike and she would find it hard to respect a person with a tattoo. It was a good thing that the professor never got it in the end.
Sarah raised her hands, "I think it is interesting to note that although Duncan Fletcher was the champion, he came third in the first two tasks. So I think we can learn from that to never give up" That was not what he asked for though. "The second tast was through a maze, its funny, as there was a maze during the 1994 Triwizard as well as now when we are having a different tournament"

Notes were definitely being taken. Because... this had something to do with what might be going on this year, right? Right? Was that what the article had been talking about? Alec... needed to have a read through it again. Or he could ask Minnie any questions he had about it. ... Maybe. Yeah. She wouldn't mind his pointless questions, would she?
... Question. Okay.
The seventeen year old sat back and frowned a little. Did he know anything about the topic? Not much. And to think he thought he was finally getting better at this subject, thanks to his grade in this subject from last year. Or maybe... maybe he just didn't know much about tournaments? Yeah... he liked the sound of the latter.
Tournaments, though. Tournaments and tasks and... BLINK. Kururugi... The name jogged something in his memory... "Professor?" Hand!raise. "I think Raiden Kururugi came second at the end of the whole tournament even... even if he had been leading at the end of the first and second tasks." There. He knew SOMETHING.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Alexa's expression became a solemn one. When he said they'd be learning about the cockatrice and the triwizard tournament, she didn't think they'd have to go calling stuff first. Wasn't it obvious she didn't KNOW?? Merlin, she wasn't even aware there had been on of those whenever it happened so how did all these people?? Was it 'cause they READ??? Was that it??? She refused to accept this. Lex scribbled the minor details that everyone was giving but make no mistake, she was not amused. Wasn't he going to be telling them about the things that happened? Wasn't that his job??
What did it matter to HER who participated? No one died, a jolly good time was had, big deal. She had yet to see the historic significance. They had tournaments like that, not often but merlin, the happened and people got over them.
It was like following Quidditch. The world cup happens.Your team wins--or doesn't and in a few years NO ONE goes on about 'oh I wonder who won. Who were the players? Did one of them nearly die? What colour was the whistle the official blew?' Geddit? Pointless. History of Magic was pointless when they discuss trivial things like this because she didn't know and couldn't participate.
Lex lowered he quill after taking the last of the suggestions. Moving on, yes?

The only things she knew about the Triwizard Tournament had been what her Gram had excitedly told her back at home. Gram had been a Hufflepuf herself when she went to Hogwarts, and so Tora had gotten quite a bit of information of the Tournament at the time. Not that she remembered much, she had been much younger at the time. "Didn't the Raiden Kururugi come in second? And this girl... Laurent? came in third. I think." she said slowly, thinking hard.
...Farty...Couch...
Okay...yeah. Tiberius floated one of her shoes to he pile of shoes he had just collected on his desk. "Ms.Couch, I am no longer playing games. The Next Note Card had better have the small bit of information I gave simple instructions for." He'll give her credit where it's due though. What? THEY'D BEEN PLAYING A GAME BEFORE??????????????????? Zahra hadn't known. SHUCKS, MAN, SHE WISHED SHE'D KNOWN. Zahra looooooved games. Particularly ones she could win.
Blah blah blah threatening her with house points. It seemed like every professor did that to her.
SHE'D WALK OUT OF CLASS BAREFOOT ANYWAY. SHE WOULD JUST THROW HER SHOES OUT OF THE WINDOW, because you know what? That WOULD be cool, unlike this SQUARE'S opinion. What a dweeb. Fine. FINE. She'd write his stupid card stuff, though she didn't get WHY. OBVIOUSLY she was a GRYFFINDOR and if she wanted to be FARTY COUCH...
....
She wrote it as tiny as SHE POSSIBLY COULD on the stupid card for the NO FUN WHATSOEVER professor.
New HISSSSTORY teacher needed to become hissssssssstory himself. He was NO FUN. She put her elbows on her desk and her chin in her hands and more or less pouted.
Kace was excited to be learning about the Triwizard Tournament. He liked learning about the history. Even though this was before he even came to Hogwarts but it was interesting what went on. He heard the professor move on and he was asking about what events happened and who were the champions. Kace had to think because he remembered one of his family members telling him about this....
"Professor i know one of the tasks had to deal with a maze." he piped in. But that was really all he knew.
Can we just say...? WHYDIDHEHAVETOSLAMHISHANDTOHERDESK?!
Erm, anyway, you're welcome, Professor. We still don't like you. We might if you were wearing some shoes, though. See? She knew they couldn't possibly focus on Bartemius Crouch when there were so many important figures throughout history.
So she just smirked a little and listened to what everyone said about Duncan Fletcher and just smirked a bit more when they spoke of Hufflepuff.
But then came the talk of the tourney and she raised her hand. "Well, there were other representatives from Durmstrang, like Vladimir Petrov and Danika Malik, though they didn't advance to the second task." But they were still CHOSEN and they mattered, YOU KNOW? Just sayiiing.
"Speaking of the second task... a set of runes was given to the ones who made it out."Nod, nod. Yes, this was very important, because runes were clearly the best part of everything.

Carter was in school that year. Anya remembered. She had over heard him mentioning things about French girls.
And no, she was not spying. ... much.
"There was something that happened in a cave." she said after raising her hand. And yes, that was vague for a reason. The reason being she didn't really know anything other than that.

Had Mo's mother been Headmistress during the last Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts? Mo kicked his heel against his chair and did the math. Nope, she hadn't, although she'd been around for the Interhouse Tournament held previously. Not that it mattered, since there weren't questions on that historical event.
"They didn't have Quidditch that term, sir, and I'm awfully glad we're still having it this term. And... although a Yule ball is traditional, they celebrated an End of Term/ End of Tournament costume ball instead." Which seemed less posh but allowed for more FUN to be had.

What happened during the last Triwizard Tournament again? Caleb vaguely remembered his dad reading the stories to him from the Prophet to keep him entertained. He tried and tried to remember until something popped into his head, and he raised his hand.
"Um, I think they had to fight a venomous tentacula at some point," he said. Yeah, that sounded right. Evil killer plant? Yup. Sounded right.

Wait. Huh? What was going on? What was being talked about?! Tag had no idea. He was sort of losing it here and his head was beginning to drop a bit. STAY AWAKE. Bolting straight up Tag shook his head and looked around at all his classmates.
Yeah, what was going on?
He had no idea. So the boy merely glanced at everyone else some more and then back up at the teacher. If he knew information to the next question his Professor asked he'd answer to the best of his ability. But right now he had no idea what was being talked about and there would be no point answering.

Oh, now they had to talk about the most recent one...which Penelope didn't really know all that much about. Triwizard Tournaments had never really interested her enough to read about in detail. Although something Mo said caught her attention. They didn't have Quidditch that term?! That was terrible. There was no way these tournaments were somehow better than Quidditch or could replace it. Seriously, no way.
But yeah, beyond commenting on that, which she wasn't gonna do, this fifth year didn't have anything useful to add. So still just silently listening.

Tobias had, like, no idea about the Triwizard Tournament. He HAD been reading but history was kinda big and most of the things that Tobias had been reading about were from way further back than the 10 or whatever years ago that this tournament had been. Instead he just kept quiet and kept adding to his notes.
He WAS intrigued by this thing that Minerva had mentioned, something about a tournament being mentioned in the Daily Prophet? Toby didn't read the paper, so he had no idea what she was talking about. Now, however, his interest was piqued.
Still, Toby just kept quiet until there was a topic where he could give his input, making notes and occasionally doodling.

Sophie frowned to herself. She hadn't realized recent Hogwarts students would be classroom material. She knew all about the people her mother had taught her about--Lord Voldemort, Professor Dumbledore, and Harry Potter, among many others. She didn't really know anything about recent Hogwarts students, though.
She silently tapped her fingernail against her desk as she tried to remember a name--any name. Hmm... She looked over as she heard another name from a nearby student, and that other name seemed to ring a bell in Sophie's mind. Suddenly, she was pairing that name with another. "Was there a Brielle Lambert?" she asked, raising her hand. "That name comes to mind for some reason."
Cutty hadn't caught the looks given him by the two girls. If he had, though he totally would've been all Whassup, then, Loov? or something equally Ugh! about it. Cause it had thus far been a major part of the Cutty Mordaunt Hogwarts Experience since he'd arrived at the castle according to the boy.
Still holding his quill with his dominant hand, the firstling put the remaining on in the air to offer an answer. "There was also some kid from Beauxbaton named Jermaine Rousseau, Professor. Although, he was eliminated by the first round." By bowtruckles apparently. The differences between the houses were starting to sink in more for Cutty by the time of this, their first History of Magic Lesson and a twinge of house pride crept in just knowing that no bowtruckle defeated the Slytherin champion; Raiden Kururugi.

Triwizards Tournament stuff. Okay, then. Kat tried to recall the different champions from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. Most of the champions have been mentioned in class. MOST, but not all. At least she could still say something in class than be a complete statue. Brielle Lambert from Beauxbatons, mentioned. Raiden Kururugi from SLYTHERIN, mentioned. Duncan was a Hufflepuff. That one that Nigel mentioned was from Ravenclaw. Raiden from Slytherin who was a prefect just like her. Cameron Caddock from Gryffindor. Well, that was fair. Enough. But whatever.
What about a Beauxbatons champion? Kat raised her hand. "Monique Bernard was one of the Beauxbatons champions, however, she only moved onto the second task." Poor her. At least nobody died. Was this lesson in relation to the Triwizard Tournament of Wits thing they'd be having?
Would they be able to see the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang competitors? WOULD THEY? Right now? That'd be awesome. She gave looks to Professor Dursley. Hopefully he could read her mind.

Adrienne was admittedly pretty terrible at names, so she just wrote down what other students said where which champions because she had no idea who was from where and did what. However, she did remember one of the tasks that had been pretty funny, if not intriguing on its own. "Didn't they get shrunk?" Like, down small enough to go through a maze or something? "And then somebody messed something up, it might have been that guy actually," she said, gesturing towards the picture of Duncan, "and ended up staying halfway-shrunk for a while." Until someone got to fix it or something, she wasn't entirely sure. That was just about all Adrienne knew about Triwizard Tournaments, that and that it was pretty exceptional for there to be one where nobody died.

Did it have to do something with Dragons? Or was that another year? But he did remember a little fact about this particular one.
The reason why he remembered was because..."No one died during this Tournament, Professor D,'' the little badger said raising his hand and wriggling his toes. He knew that the tournament was called off for some years because of champion deaths.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes! Tiberius clapped his hands twice for these two. "This was a very historic moment indeed! During each Triwizard Tournament there had been a Death. In 1994, Hogwarts' Champion Cedric Diggory , and the mustached man Bartemius Crouch Sr. both were murdered in part of the tournament being tampered with by Crouch's son to bring about the return of Voldemort." What about a Beauxbatons champion? Kat raised her hand. "Monique Bernard was one of the Beauxbatons champions, however, she only moved onto the second task." Poor her. At least nobody died. Was this lesson in relation to the Triwizard Tournament of Wits thing they'd be having?
Would they be able to see the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang competitors? WOULD THEY? Right now? That'd be awesome. She gave looks to Professor Dursley. Hopefully he could read her mind.
Four, Eight, Twelve! "Got them all! Write them all down. Good that we also have our Second and Third place Runner-Ups as well Raiden Kuruguri..." Very close Mr.Odessa... "of Hogwarts' Slytherin House, and Noel Lauret of Beauxbatons." How exciting! "Something to keep in mind that was also different from the Triwizard Tournament before was that this one Selected TWELVE Champions as opposed to the three...er...four from each school. Two of course that came from Hogwarts."
Tiberius Shuffled to the board, erased what he had up on it before and began to write again.

As for the Triwizard tournament, the blonde decided to go off of what another classmate had said since it jogged her memory. "Professor, the tunnel portion was set up so that the people participating had to face certain challenges to retrieve their wands from....Bowtruckles, I think."

"Nice Answers, all of you. Each Champion was tasked with a separate tunnel they have to pass through to move through to the next round." He jabbed a finger in the direction of the young Slytherin. "Mr.Newell was correct in that a Venomous Tenticulu was one of the obstacles in some of the champion's paths. While others used baby Mandrakes to break a barrier blocking them. A very Herbology oriented task. Things to note were as Ms.Bishop pointed out, they had to do all this without their wands retrieving them from Bowtruckles. The last thing I did not hear was the item those who moved one were rewarded with a fancy mirror with the roman numeral of three written on it." Excellent answers from all of them.

This was an interesting topic and she had read about it a few summers ago.
Putting up her hand and hearing most talk about other champions Minerva remembered reading about some of the tasks. "Professor I read about a maze task that the champions at to compete in. There was a part that involved potions and Fletcher did something wrong that made him not grow back to his normal height." This she remembered, because it helped reading that even champions screwed up at times.

"I think it is interesting to note that although Duncan Fletcher was the champion, he came third in the first two tasks. So I think we can learn from that to never give up"[/B] That was not what he asked for though. "The second tast was through a maze, its funny, as there was a maze during the 1994 Triwizard as well as now when we are having a different tournament"

Until someone got to fix it or something, she wasn't entirely sure. That was just about all Adrienne knew about Triwizard Tournaments, that and that it was pretty exceptional for there to be one where nobody died.

"Professor i know one of the tasks had to deal with a maze." he piped in. But that was really all he knew.
Eww...Potions. Tiberius did not like Potions."Good, verry good, great even!"Tiberius had a creepishly pleasent smile on his face now. "After the first six as listed above were Eliminated. The remaining Champions had to compete in a maze. Something that Hogwarts has taken a liking to throwing you lot into. Within each of the maze there were potions that would help the champions, along with potions that would hurt them." Excellent that some of them knew about Duncan Fletcher's mishap with his potion...and had one of the students mentioned the Healer who helped Fletcher at the end was her relative of sorts? EXCELLENT!! He loved those who had connections to History...which should technically be everyone. "As mentioned by Ms.Wisteria" of Hogwarts "Those who passed on retrieved a set of Runes and moved onto the final task."

She also wasn't super keen on the other names either, but she did know some things from first hand account. "My aunt was the Healer during the Tournament. She said that the Champions faced many creatures in their tasks like bowtruckles and kappas and dugbogs, some plants too: venomous tentacula and fanged geraniums. One of them, I think a Durmstrang boy, was poisoned by the venomous tentacula." And surely more, but Cat didn't remember every single one. Besides, those were cool ones. Did that count, anyway? Second hand knowledge?
The Connection Girl! Huzzah! She mention briefly what he needed. "The Final Task had a few of those creatures that Ms.Moretti had mentioned. Dugbogs, Kappas, and Bowtruckles. Also in the maze was a Rooster, a Weasel, and a Crup. Although the most important of all creatures in the maze was the image I showed you briefly." Sorry to those who were transfixed by Mr.Fletcher's beautiful hair. he flicked his wand at the pull-down screen once more to reveal the image of the Cockatrice again. "My Final Question is What happened in that Maze? I just need one event from each of you. We'll work out the order once we get them all, and move onto finishing up today's class." Tiberius went back to shuffling around the class. He stopped by his desk briefly and picked up Ms.Lockwood's shoes. he turned them in his hands briefly until enlarging them with his wand. He sat down and slipped them on.
Not bad, kind of girly, and he could probably do with some socks so his feet don't get to uncomfortable.
curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog
Caleb had already answered the question the professor asked - or at least, he THOUGHT he had, and it was still the only thing he could think of, so he raised his hand again. "I believe at one point they had to fight a Venomous Tentacula," he said.
Maybe the professor hadn't HEARD him before?

That was...a lot of information. Ella scribbled down a few things she didn't know but otherwise just kept watch on the Professor. Classmates too when they answered. It must have been neat to have been around to witness that tournament.
The maze portion. Ella had read a bit about it and so she bit her lip and tried to remember some particulars she could share. Hmm.
"I believe those who made it to the maze worked together, Professor. And that they faced a clabbert, I think?" Among other magical creatures. She was pretty sure lots had been involved.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Was this for REAL??? Duuuuuuuude stop asking questions she didn't know the answer to!!! The Professor was obviously trying to make her look stupid, he obviously was. Why else would he ask about stuff she was in no way aware of before he brought them up today?? Like, WHERE was everyone getting this knowledge from?????? Was it the textbook?? She'd left hers up in her Common Room because she figured she wouldn't be reading it anyway.
Lex glanced over at Lottie who didn't have her own book out at the moment. Bestfriends, yup, neither prepared to read for this class. Or maybe the Hogwartian was just pacing herself and in the end LEX was the only one not equipped and prepared and junk for this class.
Bliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink.
All these questions. "Professor? Wouldn't you rather just continue showing us pictures and hoping we get them right?" Pictures were fun. She liked pictures. Granted once it was history related she'd never know the answer but at least she'd be able to make AN ALMOST SOMEWHAT EDUCATED GUESS!!!
Couldn't guess with simple questions. Or could you? What happened in the maze? "They got lost." BOOM.
