So Minerva summed it up quite nicely and intelligently, and Claudette did not have anything else to add. What more was there to say, really? At this point, they just needed to let the Headmistress respond to their explanation. She cringed a bit behind her book when the woman chewed out the rude girl, then she turned her eyes back to Truebridge as she addressed her.

Oh. Claudette did not have much to say to that because she supposed that the woman did have a point. She could have done the lesson and proven him wrong.. though she wasn't sure how that would work since it wasn't an option. "But.. we didn't have the chance to prove him wrong," she said in a very small voice. "We tried.. but doing Arithmancy as a man with a forced beard was the only option. We felt it necessary to protest.. but meant no disrespect to anyone by it." She did feel the whole thing was ridiculous and insulting, but maybe felt a little bit bad for the guy to have everyone flip out even if she did not agree with him one bit.

But apologize in front of the whole class? Eep. She wasn't sure she wanted to go that far, especially when she didn't completely feel wrong. But then she heard KEEP YOUR BEARD and detention.. and that was what she was trying to avoid.. that blasted beard! It needed to be removed. Oh sure, it was easy for beardless snake girl to not apologize.. she didn't have a beard to keep. What about the rest? She needed this beard gone.. *panic*

See why Cassia was hoping for no headmistress, SEE! The fifth-year snake tore her attention from the lipstick and switched it to the talking woman. And she so wanted to agree on the 'they're not here to please you'. More like they were here to displease you. How fortunate that no one could read their thoughts.

Then the two options came, and she disliked both. Unfair. They didn't mean disrespect by leaving, they didn't insult the professor, he just didn't take them seriously.

As Ariana nudged her, Cassia cleared her throat . "As Ariana and Claudette just said," she chimed in right before the seventh-year. "We did try," She said giving her best innocent look. Which looked ridiculous with a beard. "I do believe we have the right to know the purpose of what we're doing in class, " wasn't that what learning was about. "We mean no disrespect for the Professor and we have nothing against him personally and I think we deserve to be taken seriously and receive a convincing answer." Rather than being completely ignored. But of course no one could tell the old man to answer to them and give them a proper answer. But what did they have to apologize for? Asking for clarification and refusing to do something that they felt uncomfortable with.

Minerva listened and flinched a few times at her words. Feeling her heart race at the word detention and thoughts going back to last term. Could she mentally even handle another detention from this school. Honestly who was to say Lafay wouldn't get wind of this and just show up. The woman clearly would like another go at her from her words at the feast, but to apologize for something that they believed in. That they were proving. Even the headmistress would have to see how bad that looked. Professor or no professor she had to see this.

Hearing the coughing words she rolled her eyes looking at the ground so that no one else would see and bit her lip not to clearly silence the girl so she would stop her snakeness from really showing.

Alright so Minerva had some choices and fast thinking to do.. Hadley.. coming out anytime soon to stick up for us?? Anyway what to do.. She did not want to apologize, because she did nothing wrong, but to go to detention maybe her hyperventilate on the spot. Taking a few deep breaths so not to go into a full on panic attack from the thought running in her head she made a decision. "Headmistress.. ma'am. Can I ask you this, just as I asked Professor French. If we would go back and apologize for interrupting class." If that's what you called the chaos that was going on in there. "Could it be without these beards and you go with us to help persuade him into letting us do it without the beards as to see who is better with numbers?" It was just a thought, she could say no and Minerva would be back to probably going back to class anyway, but you wouldn't know without asking, right?

Nerida so wanted to roll her eyes but she controlled herself, she had let her emotions get the best of her, she hated how she always did that!! She looked over at the others as they all spoke, they all had points. She so was not going to apologize like this, they couldn't do that, it would seem pointless to leave for something they believed to return to apologize. She would not apologize for her beliefs if that meant detention so be it.

But she liked Min's, Cassia's and Claudette's and Sky's speeches to the Headmistress. But she couldn't add anything useful that hadn't been said. Except nod, she didn't want to repeat herself that would just be stupid. She really wish the Headmistress would listen to what they were saying and not just ignore them!

Hadley was listening to the banter as she finished up in the facilities. Beards. Arithmancy. Well that was something she didn't expect to hear intermingling. She did feel her cheeks grow warm though when she heard one of the girls saying how she was the best at the subject; something with which it seemed Annie shot down -- sarcastically? Well that was just NOT cool. She did NOT give up Arithmancy because she didn't love it.

Emerging from the stall, she went over to wash her hands, taking note for the first time who actually was present in the bathroom.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt, but what sort of history did this ... man get incorrect?" And what history was he teaching them? Did he get Bridget Wenlock's name wrong and call her a bearded lady? Just because if he got history incorrect, then perhaps something Annie had said about him being there to EDUCATE them, might not be accurate if he's teaching them wrong materials. And she was pretty sure as FORMER Arithmancy professor, she had every right to know what they were being taught and if they were being taught properly.

Ignoring the eyerolling from the Puffer, Sky nearly jumped when she heard someone else coming out of one of the stalls. Oh, Professor Hadley. Now, she'd be able to understand the problem with Professor French. Because Bunz sure wasn't. And luckily she'd been taking mental notes over everything incorrect that had come out of that man's mouth. "Professor Hadley," she began, much calmer than she had been, "Professor French thinks that R2-D2 and Obi Wan-Kenobi are actual numbers, for starters. Then he keeps slipping in incorrect facts that have absolutely nothing to do with Arithmancy, like that Princess Leia invented the cauldron in 130 B.C., and that Gryffindor House was started by a Jeremy Gryffindor." And those were just the start of it. Seriously, mind blown over how misinformed this man is. "Then he asked us what we knew about beards and that's when the whole 'men are better Arithmancers because they have beards' thing happened." That about summed it up really. Well, besides the forcing of the beards mess.

Considering she wasn't feeling overwhelmed with anger and was mostly just annoyed and unimpressed with everything, Penelope opted to silently observe and listen as everyone else argued and bickered and talked and whatever else you would call the things they were doing. The two who were getting way too angry over it all definitely weren't going about this in the smartest way, but at least some of the others seemed to be able to control their emotions and actually get their point across. And now they had to decide whether to go back and apologize or take a detention and drop the class? The second option seemed better in her head - the going back to class and apologizing didn't seem right or honest at all. Why should she apologize when she didn't feel bad at all? Wasn't that the point of an apology? She was pretty sure it was.

But yeah, she wasn't accepting that too soon either. And some of the others seemed to be of the same mind as they continued. Except Minerva. Penelope wasn't much happy with that plan since it still involved apologizing.

Oh, but there was Hadley. Funny she should show up too. "Yeah, what Sky said," she added with a nod. "He also said that the 'Jeremy Gryffindor' guy started it in 1800-something. But Hogwarts has been around loads longer than that. And that the 'Head Girl' thing started from a girl beheading a house elf." So yeah, more of the historical 'facts' from their 'professor'.

Sarah burst into the bathroom and planted herself in front of the mirror.. "I feel so hyprocrital.. here I tell my brothers no facial hair until they get married and come under their wives juristiction.. and now I have a purple beard. And the circus was last year, so we don't even get to have a bearded woman exhibit..."

Then she looked in the mirror at her beard and noticed the faculty. And teh family red head of her Headmistress. "Sorry.. Headmistress.. I have a question... when the school hires a new member of staff... do they give that new member a welcome package.. as in material stating the school's ethos as well as brief History? I think they should... as maybe those leech like library fees is preventing Professor French from finding out about Godric Gryffindor and Salaazer Slytherin, two of the key players in the school.". Those library fees were horrendous. Sarah was desperate to go back to the library yet she had only one (SElf-imposed) trip to the library each week and it was only the beginning of the week.

Professor Hadley was also there.. Sarah turned to her.."Professor Hadley Pretty please - with chocolate frogs and jelly beans on top- come back to teach arithmancy. The First years don't know what is the truth and this lesson they were told that Arithmancy was first used by the Huns in the year 1030, contrary to what we learnt under Professor Hadley - surely the Chaldean system was created before then? There were also other misinformations given.. as I am sure the girls have already told you" she said

Then turning her attention back to the headmistress, Sarah took out her notebook and showed the Red head a page filled in her handwriting "I took minutes of the lesson, recording what was said by the professor and such, I duplicaed it and was planning to OWL a copy to the Headmistress and The Board of GOverners, along with a report. I don't knew who is incharge of hiring and firing around here.. you see. I just need to pay the money to get into the library so I can do more research on having a professor like this, on what this does to a child's knowledge, its effect on education and opinion on adults along with other side effects"

Here they went again, all talking at her at once. Did Bunz LOOK liked she cared that they had facial hair? No, she found it hilarious. Did she LOOK like she cared that one professor taught Arithmancy better than the other? Hardly. Did she LOOK like she would take the side of the students over that of a professor any day at all ever?

No no no no... these disillusioned children had the impression that she was on their side. Well, she wasn't. In the perpetual war of adults vs. children, the adults ALWAYS won. And Anastasia R. Truebridge was nothing if not an 40-something-year-old adult.

She pointedly looked at her watch before answering any of them. "You had your chance to go back and apologize, ladies," she looked specifically to the Hopeless Carter she-snake, the one who'd given her the fakest apology in the history of apologies, "and now you've made your choice. It's going to be detention, for all of you, with myself and Professor French, no IFs, ANDs, or BUTs about it!"

As for the mis-history stuff.... Annie shrugged lightly. "Maybe he was testing you, to see if you were paying attention and listening to him. Obviously he's not our History of Magic professor and obviously you all know better, so well done for having learned SOMETHING in all your years here." She rolled her eyes and gave Josephina a look before re-focusing on the Beard Girls. "But again, you are disrespecting both the professor and myself by a) trying to get him to change his activities to suit your snooty needs and b) wasting your breath complaining about him. There is a LENGTHY process involved in getting a professor fired and it involves more than just myself and the professor in question. I need to see DOCUMENTATION of his misdoings and how he is causing you serious physical or mental harm. I don't see anything so far."

She turned her nose away from the Gryffindor bursting in with the notebook and conspiracy theories. "As for detention... I fully expect to see ALL of you in the dungeons at 6:00 PM sharp, TONIGHT. ALL of you who cut class today WILL be there."

And with that sentence delivered, the Headmistress stalked out of the bathroom with her head held high. She still had that streak of foundation on her cheek, but she'd just go find a more suitable, drama-free mirror to use.

DETENTION!?

That was the LAST thing on the girls mind when she walked out of the classroom.. surely she wasn't saying Sorry but if some people didnt BLOW up maybe they could of saved themselves! after the headmistress walked out Ariana stood with her arms cross across her chest and her mouth open.. freaking Way to go Sky! she totally had this, her and Minerva BOTH did now they ALL had detention.. even the little lion that just joined themm.. thanks to her and ravenclaw's ranting...

"that achieved nothing." she said giving looks to everyone in the room.. "four terms with out a detention.. and now we all have one." surely she really didnt care for the detention cept the headmistress AND Pr0f3ss0r Fr3nch were going to be hosting..

No Thank You!

...right. No real concern at all that the professor was actually an idiot and not fit to teach? No? Nothing?

M'kay. Detention it was then. Penelope wasn't too bothered. It was the option she would've originally chosen anyway. She briefly considered pointing out that he was in a way inflicting serious mental harm because stupid could be contagious for all they knew...but in the end she decided to keep that thought to herself. The Headmistress was already walking out anyway, and she had no intention of keeping her here longer.

Ariana seemed really displeased though. Penelope shrugged. "It's just detention. Least it's not a whole week of it or during a tryout session." At least, it wasn't during one of Gryffindor's, and she was pretty sure it wasn't during a Slytherin one either 'cause she kept an eye on those for reasons. She didn't keep up with Hufflepuff's and Ravenclaw's as much though.

Hadley listened as the girls ratted off supposedly incorrect information. Okay, so he was clearly misinformed about Jeremy Gryffindor and even the Head Girl position, but hadn't Annie then just said that maybe he was testing them? It was possible. And the R2-D2 thing isn't entirely incorrect, if you converted the R and the D to numbers.... But it seemed there was no room for her to offer her input as the Headmistress was a stubborn, feisty redhead weren't they all? who was set on giving them detention, not the least bit concerned for their frustrations. Sure it was wrong of them to bail out of class, but they only did it because they felt uncomfortable and the new professor was unwilling to listen.

She was flattered though when another student - Sarah Edwards - burst in and practically begged her with chocolates and sweets and other stuff she never consumed during the school year to return to teaching Arithmancy.

The brunette was about to suggest all this as possibilities to the Headmistress, when she stalked out of the bathroom.

"You know girls, there's other ways to make a statement then to walk out of class. There's also ways to learn Arithmancy, or any subject, if you believe the professor to be incapable. I believe that's in history, but not the kind French will teach you."

You know, not like she was advocating for secret societies or anything, except well, she totally was.

"As for the beards, I recommend a potion... unless of course the Headmistress wants you in the dungeons wearing them..."

Detention?! She couldn't believe.......no wait, yes, she could. This was Bunz they were dealing with. But detention with the aforementioned Bunzinator, Frenchy French AND Minerva.....? Ugh. Sky didn't know how she was going to keep her temper in check with those three in a room together. And now she was getting looks from her dorm mate. Though it wasn't like they wouldn't have gotten the detention anyway......"this is Bunz we're talking about," she said, completing her thought outloud. You know, the same woman who would've let West and Theo have their souls sucked out if it were up to her and let the Daily Prophet believe Mr. Firth lost his trying to save her sorry butt instead of Knox'.

Ah, she saw what Professor Hadley was saying there. Sneaky, sneaky. But who would teach said secret lessons? Because she wasn't keen on getting any more people in trouble than she already had. Hmmmm...... some thinking needed to be done here. She did offer Hadley a 'gotcha' wink, though.

"Sorry, kiddos," she said the younger girls before leaving the bathroom for the kitchen. All this conversation had made her thirsty. Plus, she had some thinking to do.....

Ok, sure, Claudette was outraged about the forced beards and the whole men are better arithmancers nonsense.. but was she the only one who thought the notions of House Jeremy Gryffindor and Princess Leia inventing cauldrons were kinda funny? Of course she was not about to bring that up now, seeing as it would only hurt her chances of getting rid of the facial hair and avoiding detention. So she mulled over the choices the Headmistress had given them, still feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place.

She supposed Minerva's thought wasn't bad and looked up over her book to see what the woman would say to that, when her attention was diverted by another bearded girl bursting through the door. She blinked a few times as the Gryffindor rattled on.. well, apparently class was over anyway. And then she looked back at the Headmistress as she spoke again.. somehow knowing it would not be good.

Detention.

So what she did not want, but apparently the choice had to be made for her. Claudette stared after the Headmistress' retreating form for a moment, speechless, before turning back to the other girls. "Detention.." she repeated quietly, still kind of stunned. "But at least held our ground standing up for what we believe in.. that has to count for something, right?" Even if they were still to be punished for the way they went about it, they got their point across and maybe it was only a personal, moral victory, but that couldn't just be for nothing.. and wasn't it better than backing down and recanting your statement?

The 16 year old looked up as who she now knew to be the former Arithmancy professor spoke. Yes, a potion would help and she thought she knew just the right one.. she would check it out as soon as she left. "Thank you, Professor," she said quietly with an agreeing nod. Sighing, she added, "I hope detention isn't too horrible.." She had it at Beauxbatons once and it was merely writing lines.. but she also didn't have professors that forced beards on their students there, so Merlin only knew how it would be here. With one last glance at the girls she said, "Guess I'll see you all later.." Then she left the bathroom, hurrying off to her dorm. There was no way anyone was going to see her in this bearded state till her detention.

Minerva listened to the headmistress and just blinked.. She felt like a wrecking ball came and hit her in the stomach. She wasn't even listening to them. Why did this school run on fear and nutty people. They weren't suppose to stand up for what they believed in. Minerva was not disrespectful to anyone and she said she would go back, but had only asked another question about the beards. A compromise, but it was no use. None at all. Her leadership was horrible. Why did they ever give her this badge. She was proving such a failure even when she tired to take the blame for everyone and stand up for what she felt was right, it was still wrong.


Why on earth did she ever think anyone would listen about the beards. These same adults let professors and a healer run the school that would actually burn the hair off their students head and their robes off of them with a burning plant, would let these adults force a student into eating live bugs. So why would they care about a professor that forced beards on girls. No this school didn't care about their students that was proven to Minerva at this moment even more than it was proven last term. Her eyes watched as the Headmistress said detention again. Minerva sucked in a breath flash backs from last term coming into her head.

She felt sick really sick. Like she might just have to excuse herself into one of the stalls. No she had to be strong for now in front of the younger students. She just nodded at the headmistress and watched her walk out. Then her panic attack eyes focused the best they could on Hadley. Hadley had to be so disappointed in her. She was such a failure. A horrible prefect, this term was just not going her way. Her thoughts were pulled back when she heard Sky.. Teeth gritted a bit, her rudeness was sure to help get them in detention she was sure of it. Seriously someone should hex the girl just for being a big mouth.

Her face really fell when she heard Claudette's voice. She didn't just fail Professor Hadley and the headmistress, she failed Ethan and his family taking care of Claudette. She helped put her in detention. Great role model she was. She felt her heart race as Claudette left, "Clau.. wait.." but it was too late, but what was she going to say anyway. She looked around the room trying to keep her composure and not freak here. No that would be her dorm.

"I.. I will see you all later I guess. I. I'm sorry I couldn't help you all stay out of detention. " She failed and she knew it now she just needed to get out of there. "Good Day professor" She didn't make eye contact she wasn't going to see that look of disappointment again. She headed out of the bathroom.

Detention...

In all her seven years at Hogwarts she had never gotten a detention...Not even when she wrote that mean note to Professor Knox and all that other things....And now for standing up for her beliefs she was getting a detention great!

Hearing Professor Hadley a grin appeared on her face...She got what she was thinking...Secret Society...She got what you were hinting at she gave a wink towards the best Arithmancy turned Muggle Studies teacher.

"Its not that bad, right?" she asked the others that had not left yet.

"Its my first detention...Do they really hang you up!?" Stupid brothers filling her mind with tales...

Here's a shock. Or not. GOOD to know that they wouldn't be heard when they explained what they thought. Good. To. Know. Clearly no one wanted to apologize which meant they were going to detention. Duh. Cassia almost forgot that the Hufflepuff head of house was in one of the stools. She didn't want to this about ....... that. She also let others answer her. Cassia wasn't Arithmancy material. Obviously. Cue why she was the first to follow Ariana out of the class.

After the two older women left, Cassia turned to the rest. "Well, who didn't see that coming," Next time she was cutting class she was going to the broom's closet. There wasn't a mirror THERE!

"I'll have a nap before detention," They might need physical or mental strength.

Winter? Was it winter already? And what was with all of the water on the ground. Oh right, that was because of her stupid move. Her head was pounding and she just laid there the water pooling around her. Brilliant. Everything was brilliant.

“So, this is awesome” she muttered as she stood up, carefully bracing herself against the not broken sink. What on earth had happened? And why was the knob to the faucet just sitting in her hand.

Evidence. It was evidence. Right? Obviously the sink had been tampered with…no, she’d just turned it too hard or something. Placing the handle back down on the sink she quickly cast the sticking charm. It had to be stuck to the faucet first right?

“Repairo” maybe it would work. Yes, great. It was working.

Now staring at the water still obviously slick on the floor she needed to do something about that right?

She began to move her wand in a clockwise direction. One small circle followed by another, and then the up and down motion. She was going to dry the area by the doorway first. That seemed like a good idea right? “Siccus Aerous” there, that should work. For now, people’d just have to be a little careful when walking the rest of the way in. Or maybe cast a waterproofing spell on their feet, plants, and shoes.

Laura wanted to get away from everything and everyone and so she decided that the best place to hide would be the girls bathroom and so she had come into the girls bathroom wondering what to do. She decided that she should probably wash her hands after doing some more handstands. She went and washed her hands and just looked into the mirror thinking about things and wondering where the years had gone.

Tessa was tired of being stuck in the Gryffindor common room but didn't know where else to go. She had thought about going to the greenhouses but she didn't have enough change to put into the turnstiles again. Instead of roaming the halls like she normally did, she decided she'd take her book into the bathroom to read for a bit. This isn't weird... she told herself as she entered into the bathroom.

Laura looked around and saw Tessa coming into the room. "Hello." Laura smiled. "How are you today?" Laura was totally happy to have someone else in the room she had been bored on her own washing her hands but she wouldn't let anyone else know that, they didn't need too. "So what bring you here anyway or is it because of Moaning Myrtle though I must say I have never seen her. I wish I had though." Laura wondered where the ghosts were.

Oh, there was already someone there. "I was just going to do some more reading." Tessa explained as she held her book up for inspection. The girl was familiar but Tessa wasn't for sure where she knew her from. "Nope. I haven't seen Moaning Myrtle." Tessa said shaking her head. Why would someone want to see such a sad ghost anyway? Tessa thought to herself. "Where do I know you from?" The Gryffindor questioned, the more she looked at the girl the more familiar she seemed though Tessa still couldn't place where they might have met before.
