A spider web network of paths links the Courtyard to almost every area of the grounds. The paths are plenty wide enough for you and a friend to take a walk together and enjoy the fresh air. Trees, shrubs, flowers, and benches line the walkways and provide a cozy atmosphere. Enjoy your stroll, take your time, and let go of the stress inside the castle.

Dang, how bad. "I should probably get used to it..." Yeah, falling down, being pushed.. was her thing. "Claws find me very interesting" Wink.
Settling in? "OH YEAH...It's been AWESOME" she said, a brilliant smile on her face. She did like the Lions, yes she did. Only she had always wanted to be a snake. Childhood whims don't go too soon, you see? It's nothing very personal, but...JUST SKIP THAT PART OUT. "Apart from the cleaning my bed that is..." she added. Yeah, cleaning wasn't exactly her thing. "Is Hogwarts always been like this?" she asked. From what her parents had told her, it sure hadn't been what she'd imagined it to be.
"I just finished my Herbology homework" That one with a bit of trouble and loads of hardwork. She liked it nevertheless, and that gargoyle from transfiguration too. It was darn cool wasn't it? "Hey..." she trailed. They had this potions assignment and she had been meaning to ask someone for help. She'd always only assisted her dad with little things and never made a potion before. How did they expect a first year to brew one anyway? "..the potions homework...we could do it in pairs, right?" Lex could help her, no one better than her. She was cheery and loud and Amara like cheery and loud.
Would you look at that? She was quite proud to know she fell like a champion, as she should have been. It wasn't easy to be good at falling. Some people sucked at it and got all parts of themselves broken. Yikes, she could just imagine the girl breaking something. That would have been terrible and she might have almost been willing to admit it was her fault. "And it's good you get on well with the 'Claws, bloody idiots half of them, but good none the less." This was already decided by her and Lottie, yup.
Lex grinned. She was enjoying the place too!! That was a relief. As much as the girl was a snot for not liking Gryffindor Lex still felt the need to kinda...I dunno...look out for her? They were in the same house and she didn't want her having a cruddy year. She shook her head at the question. "Nah, it used to be real clean and the food, you could sit and eat all day if you had the stomach for it and no classes to go to. This is the first year I've had to make my own bed and get my own clothes washed." That had been a disaster, she didn't want to do it again. "It'll get better though...somehow we always run into some luck."
Truth. They saved Milton before he got eaten by that plant and a quick fix for getting rid of a ghost. This would all work out too.
"Sounds like you're on top of your homework so far, good! Every point counts in making sure we don't place last!" GRIN. Oh and Potions...yeah...that one. She nodded. "Yup, that's what the Professor said. Pair up if you want and create a whole new potion! I can't wait to get it started. I'll be working with Mo, do you know him?" She'd temporarily forgotten that the girl was a firstie and probably wouldn't know at all...

"Idiots?!" she repeated, her voice was something between bright and teasing. "Really? I thought they were all those brilliant know-it-all types" She had to admit she'd really thought that. Well, her mum was a Claw and she was pretty intelligent. Guh, she was theoretical physicist. So she should be. "HEH, my twin is in Claw and she is gonna be SO....happy when she hears that" Now she was really grinning. It was nice thing to inform wasn't it.
"OH, I think they made special arrangements for my arrival" TSK. Yeah, they knew she would break something. "Still, it's fun cleaning...." she paused, "..when it's not done always" she added.
YEP. She was doing her homework like....like a horse in the race! ZAAAP! "YEAH... Professor Airey's was the coolest one by far" It was, yes yes! "Just suck things in.....ZIP! Black hole" She was very impressed by the whole black hole concept. "But CoMC was profitable... I made 36 galleons!" And she looked pretty excited about it. Well who gave 36 galleons to you for just watching something burst to dust and collect its remains. NO ONE. "It'll be very useful to me....ehm..to all for that matter" No one was really interested in spending their pocket money for entering the common room. "How much did you make anyway?"
MO? "OH? It's a name?" she asked, with a quizzical look. "Is he really called Mo?" She didn't know many people from the school yet. She did meet a few captains and prefects people here and there. "Would you introduce me to him?" she asked the older girl. Ofcourse, she wanted to know EVERYONE! That little tyke!
"Are you really?!" he exclaimed at the young lady. Fantastic! "Did you know that the Board of Governors has the Puddlemore United Rookie of the Year from 2078 on it?" At least he was pretty sure that was the year. He had voted for the young man - not just because he was a fan. The boy had a lot more going for him than just that.
The young Hufflepuff boy seemed to be a bit shy on the subject and the astronomer was sort of putting some pieces together. He was not confident in magic and acted as though he had never held a wand before let alone seen it prior to Hogwarts. Now he was nervous about quidditch talk. Was he a muggle born?! If so Airey potentially had a billion and one questions for him - but he would spare the boy because there was talk of football.
"You're a football fan, Mr. Charlton? Which side are you on?"

He didn't still quite trust magic and wizards, but she wouldn't want to know these, of course. He'd find a way out when she insisted to teach him how to play.
When his favourite professor asked him about football, you should have seen the SHINE on his face.

"I am." He GRINNED as he was extremely happy to see him KNOW about it. Then he got serious, because football was a serious business. "How about you?" He had to know.
Her eyes widened slightly at the question/statement that Professor Airey had made. There was a Puddlemere United Rookie on the Board of Governors????
HOW HADN'T SHE KNOWN!?????
Taking a moment to try to calm herself down a bit, before she ended up doing something embarrassing like fangirling and flailing all around the place before finding out who it was. Deep breaths Kahlan... Deep breaths!!!!
"Really?" she asked, her head leaning to the side as she continued to focus on her breathing. "I hadn't heard anything about that to be honest... who is it?" she finally managed to get out.
Her attention focused once again on the first year, she grinned slightly at the thought of teaching him how to fly. However, she did internally slightly doubt that that was EVER going to happen because he was a muggleborn. She had realized muggleborns rarely felt comfortable flying on brooms, though being a pureblood herself she couldn't understand why.
And now football, which she was truthfully curious about. She'd probably have to ask Liam about it later on or convince him and Amy to teach her over the holidays. Tottenham? Somehow that sounded familiar to her, though she could've just been thinking she'd heard it to make herself feel better.
Though she was sure that it actually was a place...
"So who are the teams?" she asked, her head again to the side as she wondered what the reaction would be. After all she knew Forrest was just as enthusiastic about football as she was about Quidditch.

That was the good thing about France, it really was not as cold as Scotland was. "Nor me..." Not that he'd flown last year, so it didn't make much of a difference. "I've owled my mom, asked her to send me my broom." Because he knew he'd be much better on his own broom. He'd just been waiting to see if he got onto the team before he got his mom to do that. It was kind of a long way after all. But he couldn't wait to have his broom. He'd missed it a lot last year. It was going to be brilliant to fly this year, and play for his house team.
"Nah..." He frowned, shaking his head. "I'm good." He really didn't want to lick himself. He wasn't some dog, and licking yourself make you look rather weird, and he wasn't weird. He was cool. "I'm not gonna." He assured her with a grin. She was good to stay, he wasn't going to start licking anything soon. Unless there was ice cream for pudding tonight.
Mmm. She did bring up a point. "True..." He smirked, letting his hand move up to cup her cheek before he leant down and pressed his lips against hers.
Kat could tell that in a few minutes, she'd find herself in the common room. Yeah, Fall was indeed a beautiful season in the year but it was getting a bit chilly as they entered the winter-y season. She would probably have to light up the fire by herself because of obvious reasons. Hogwarts was just so dull this term and if she was to do a lot of things just so everything could be back to the way it was, Kat would honestly do them. She wasn't going to tolerate this mess. Nor him? Kat has never seen him fly prior to tryouts, just saying, so she didn't know. Lucky him about the broom thing though. "I use school brooms." Because she was still pretty awesome on an old one, and her mum wouldn't buy her one... yet. Probably on her birthday this term cos you know... for 'of age' reasons.
"Good to know," the blonde said. "I wouldn't want to see you lick yourself in front of me." She was still a girl, fyi. Nobody licked seeing people lick themselves in front of them. Ew. He can lick himself later when he was alone... just NOT in front of Kat. If he did, she would walk away. Not going to watch that happening in front of her, nope.
Yes, true. And you know another thing that was true? You didn't have to ask if you want to kiss a girl. True story, bro. And then...
...
She waited months for this, okay?

It was getting a little chilly out here now. It was okay for a little bit, but then was kind of windy too. So being outside for too long made him cold. Maybe they could head back inside now. Though, he didn't really know if she wanted to come inside with him actually. He was intended on heading down to the common room, to get a jumper, then going to get some food. Maybe they could go to the great hall together? Romantic Clement. That sounded so romantic. He was french, he was supposed to be the kind of romantic. "Ahh..." He nodded. The school brooms were pretty cool, they'd done him well so far. But he wanted his own one. "I brought the year before I came here." Or more so his father had. When he'd been on the team at Beauxbatons. But now he was on the team here, and he totally needed his broom. Hopefully it would come in time. It wasn't that far from Paris to Scotland.
"Yah...I ain't weird." And had apparently picked up some local slang. That was interesting. he'd never used that word before, but he really did like it. His mother didn't like it so much. She hated how accustom he'd come to speaking in english now, and had told him off during the summer when he'd not talked in French. It had been kind of annoying.
Clement really didn't know why he'd waited so long to kiss her again. He'd liked it so much this time. He pulled away after a few moments, grinning down at her. Could he do it again? He really liked it. "Wanna head inside?" He murmured, pulling away properly now. "It's getting a bit chilly..."

They could just stand there all day and not get tired you know. It was exercise... and clearly that was also being sarcastic since Kat did NOT need any more exercise. Dylan would put all of the Slytherin team members into this sort of training and specific type of food they needed to be fit. It was a bit ridiculous at first when Kat joined the team in her fourth year, but she grew to be used to everything... until now. Although personally, it was amusing to think of the new members of the team suffer experience what she had gone through to get this... uhm, #BodyByDylan. It seemed to be a right time to fit that in. "I don't need my own broom to be good in Quidditch." She said it. If she had her own broom, then she'd be even BETTER... but honestly, she was already unbeatable with a school broom. But she'd get a broom soon, doncha worry.
... Okay. That was weird. Kat blinked at him a few times. Uh... she had never heard him use "ain't" at her before. So... a first and it already sounded so weird. He can work on that and be better in it even. Mhm.
So with THAT done, Kat really didn't know what to do anymore. "Yeah... I guess we should." She would rather get inside now than freeze to death, even if it wasn't winter!cold yet. well, it was still cold. Kat nudged him at the ribs softly with her elbow and went inside first.
Because that was totally lady-like of her, you know.

Airey found himself nodding up and down very enthusiastically towards the young Slytherin. "Carter Phillips. He was a student here at Hogwarts not too long ago as well." A Gryffindor even - which made everything a billion times better in the astronomer's book. "His younger sister is a student here now, however." Also a Gryffindor. Heh.
Not to mention Erin who was a legend of her own. Airey had been wanting to go to her office to ask for a favor since he had certain memorabilia that he wouldn't mind getting signatures on, but he was pretty sure that that would be rather unprofessional. Although, recently, he was feeling as though keeping up the appearance of professionalism was sort of draining. It took away from the bigger and better joys in life. Maybe he would just go ask her.
Attention back on the inquisitive Hufflepuff, he scratched his pretend beard for a moment before answering. "I follow all the teams really, but always had a soft spot for Manchester United and Newcastle." Mostly because the name Newcastle was sort of cute and made him wonder if there were a bunch of new castles in the region.
He was by no means a football fan in the same light that he was a quidditch fan, but he did enjoy the sport.
All football related questions he would leave to the boy. He seemed to feel more comfortable when talking about the sport, so best to give that confidence to him - ignoring the fact that he did not know all the names anyway.

Forrest wanted to BOO Professor Airey for rooting for those two losers (and his mind just couldn't understand how he could root for TWO teams at the same time, but let's ignore his muggle-thinking brain) but that would be disrespectful to the man, so he preferred to say "I see," in a thoughtful voice. He didn't see, actually, but he wouldn't get that.
Unless, he could read minds. He had to ask about that later too, whether it was possible.
Attention back on Kahlan. He'd work on the Professor later and convert him to a Tottenham fanatic.
"There are twenty teams in the top league, actually, and every year three teams are relegated to lower league and likewise three teams are promoted, so it changes really. But there are certain teams that have the strength to be permanent in top league." His face shone PROUDLY as he grinned.
"Tottenham is one of them." Naturally. He supported no loser team.

Carter Phillips? Kahlan had to think for a few moments before she finally managed to remember who he was which was quite an embarrassing thing for her. "That's really cool" she beamed, happy that she had remembered, and also finding it interesting that there was another student who had a professionally quidditch playing older brother around...
She'd have to eventually track that girl down.
That would definitely be interesting!
Trying to get her mind around how football worked she found herself even more confused. 20 teams? Teams rotating up and down even though some stayed? Well, at least now she knew the name of one of the 'permanent' teams, or whatever they were called.
"Makes Quidditch seem a lot easier" the blonde mused, thinking over how it worked. "In the British and Irish quidditch league there's 13 teams... the Montrose Magpies have probably won the most league cups but the Ballycastle Bats and Puddlemere United have also won quite a lot, I'd say those three are the top teams" she beamed, proud to support them and proud that her brother was in one of the reserve teams.
He still should've been playing for the Ballycastle Bats in her opinion but considering she supported both teams she figured it didn't matter that much!

"Tottenham is one of them." Naturally. He supported no loser team.

Yes. She really should go and seek out Miss Phillips. In fact... he needed to do that as well considering his special request he had made of her. He had his fingers and toes crossed that she would come through for him - even his eyes when time permitted. So the Slytherin first year received a very excited nod from him.
And was it just him or was Mr. Charlton giving him an odd look about his choice in teams? Either that or perhaps the food at Hogwarts was not agreeing with his tummy. Both were very likely, but he had his money on it being the food. He had spent most of the afternoon the other day in the boys' bathroom. Horrible stuff.
"I find both sports to be rather fascinating. Can learn a lot from the wizarding and muggle world just by looking at their sports. Some could even call quiddditch football on brooms." If you squinted at it sideways and turned your head upside down anyway. Airey was all about team sports - never a fan of individual ones. Too boring in his opinion.
Oh, were they beginning to reach the end of the pathways already? Airey casually slowed his pace just a tad to prolong their discussion. He wasn't quite ready to be all cooped up inside of the castle just yet. Outside was just SO much more relaxing and put him in a real right mood.

Forrest eyed the girl, like really EYEEEEEED her because he didn't quite welcome people that compared football to other sports. He still liked her though. In fact, she was lucky to have met him, because he could save her sinful soul.
That thought amused him. HEHE.
"What about lower league teams if there are no relegation and promotion, though?" he asked rightfully, because in every sport he knew, where there was a league, there were teams moving up and down.
So, Quidditch wasn't a just sport. If it had been, it would let lower league teams to move up too.
...
"Football on brooms?" Forrest stopped walking momentarily as he thought over the theory. "Kinda, from what I've seen." He shrugged as he hurried to reach them. When Professor put it that way though, it made sense. Kind of. He'd think about it later. For now...
Grumblegrumblegrumble.
Lady and gentleman, that's his stomach talking. 'I'm hungry,' it's saying, 'Get me fooooood.'
This was the THIRD time his stomach did that when he was with Kahlan, and it was getting embarrassing. In summer, all she'd remember about him would be his stomach. He had to fix that in a way. He'd ask it to his mother later...
"Sorry about that," he said as his face was blushed a little. "But, I should return to eat something."

Breathing heavily, Alistaire Firth ran up the pathways to the castle, dressing robe flapping in the breeze. After passing the Greenhouses, he finally hit the main path that led straight to the great oaken front doors. Upon arrival, he stopped briefly to catch his breath and listen. Merlin, it's loud in there. This is not going to be pretty... Hopefully he wouldn't be the first staff member on the scene.
Hopefully no one had killed a goblin.
He pushed on the doors with all his might, sending them swinging inwards at high speed.

"Come ooooon..." Beezus muttered under her breath, fighting a yawn as she pulled on her Quidditch Captain's arm that she had encircled with her own. It was a little after dawn and it was rather cold being outside of the castle during that time. She knew Elise wasn't too happy that she was dragging her that early. What's more...they haven't even had anything to eat yet but Beezus wanted to finish this project today if possible so the earlier they start, the quicker they get things done.
"Hurry, we're almost there." She said, yawning, as she kept tugging on Elise's arm.
Pull, pull, pull....walk, walk..
And then all of a sudden, she stopped.
"Now we choose a tree, right?" She nudged Elise who looked like she had dozed off while they walked. Geez. She looked around, STILL holding her friend by the arm. Then her eyes squinted on a particular tree ahead. "Hmm. Okay...I choose you!" Yep. You, birch tree.

Now who in their right mind would hop on the person in the bed next to you on a Saturday - which was sleep-in day, mind you - just to ramble about some runic thing and drag you away from your beloved pillow? Clearly, Beezus wasn't in her right mind. Probably her left mind... or her wrong mind? Who knew? Elise was still half-asleep, anyway. Grumbling under her breath, the blonde let her friend drag her down all seven flights of stairs and out into the pathways.
Was she crazy? Probably.
She'd even fallen back asleep halfway there, since Bee hadn't so much as let her shower before going on this crazy mission. Heck, Elise was still wearing her brightly coloured pajama pants and Chris's sweater. Not that she didn't wear said clothes when she was awake, but she was in NO state to be wandering the school. Almost there, though? Almost where? Back at her bed? Some more sleep would be rather lovely, Miss Castell. Psycho prefect.
Choose... tree? In response to her prefect friend's question, Elise let out a rather loud yawn and hugged the nearest tree. It was a really lovely pillow, yes it was. Was that your idea, Bee? A new bed for Elise? Because this was very very nice indeed. Mmmm, yes, pretty tree. I choose you as my new body pillow.

Oh, yes. A birch tree was a rather good choice, was it not? Anywaaaay...she was about to approach the tree that caught her attention earlier had it not been for Elise just suddenly walking over to a tree to hug it. It looked so......tempting. She was also still sleepy, mind you. But her brain was also set into doing this project right here and now. But.............not before she hugged the same tree Elise was clinging to. "Oi...are you to use this one?" Yaaaaawn. "Do identify what tree it is, yea?" Because you know, that was necessary and all.
Unlatching her arms from the tree - she didn't have plans on being a third wheel, sorry - Beezus pulled her pajamas up and flapped her tippity tappity toes slipped in a pair of comfy, snuggly slippers towards her birch tree.
They established eye contact first, before she wrapped her arms around it. She had her own tree, she had her own tree, she had her own tree and it was a suitable, living tree. Perfect for gandr making. Yay.

The tree was making for a rather nice pillow. Maybe Bee was an undiscovered genius... at finding new pillow materials. Comfy. Right genius she was, that girl. Incredibly talented. Probably worth the walk down the stairs and all that... actually? Not quite. She'd rather have her bed but the comfy tree would do very well instead.
"Mmmhmm," she mumbled at Bee, still hugging the tree. What tree were you, hmm? What's your name? Taking a long, deep sniff, she cracked open an eyelid for a second and recognized the wood instantly. She saw it every day since she'd began schooling. Rowan. Because Kurumummy told her that a long time ago.
Lovely tree with a really pretty colour. Yes, you were perfect for snuggling. And Elise was going to snuggle with it for a good long while. As long a good while as she could snuggle, she would snuggle.

Hmmm...it really was a snuggly good ol' tree of birch and it smelled good too. Right, Elise? ......Elise? ..............................Elise? "Elise? Captain? .........Oi!" Beezus tilted her head to see her Quidditch Captain. Was she snoring? She didn't fall asleep AGAIN, did she? "Oi! Sparrow! Wake uuuuup!" Geez. What did she think of her tree, a bed? Beezus called her name once again and thankfully, her friend stirred this time.
She felt a bit horrible for dragging her out this early but they had a project to work on so sleeping can come later...AFTER all of this. "You need to communicate with your treeeeeeeeeee." Beezus reminded her before she, herself, proceeded to communicating with her own.
How did one communicate with a tree, again? Oh, right. Talk. Talk was a form of communication. Or touch...actually, this whole hugging thing she had going on right now was communicating but she supposed it needed more effort. So she began to whisper to Birchy - she named the tree Birchy, why, you got complaints? Hah. "Hi Birchy, are you a girl...or a boy?" Err...was that an offensive question? Better change it then. Ahem. "I mean....how are you? I'm Beatrice Castell, by the way. But you can call me Beezus." What if it started talking? Creepy. "I'm from Ravenclaw....a Prefect and erm...my wand's wood is the same as you, birch. " Probably explained why she felt the connection. "It's nice to meet you this cold early morning." Was it happy to meet her too? She knew it was.
See, pretty good communication skills right there.

YAAAAAAWN.
Snuggly Rowan tree was snuggly. Yes it was. Snuggly new pillow that was nice and golden-brown. Smooth, too. You don't get that much in trees. Next thing she knew, a BANSHEE was screaming at her to wake up. Why, Miss Banshee? It was so comfy here! Especially with her snuggly pear tree. This banshee sounded familiar. Also, why wasn't she dead yet?
Too many questions too early in the morning. Apparently she was supposed to communicate with her tree?
"Hi Tree," she grinned whimsically, muffling a yawn into her shoulder. Tree Yawn. Yes, that would be its name. Didn't she have brilliant naming skills? Yeaaah, she did. "My name's Elise Fairfield, but some people call me Sparrow. Or Captain Sparrow, because I'm Quidditch Cap'n for Ravenclaw. Do a lot of sparrows like your branches, Tree?" YAWN? Probably, cause they were birds and Tree Yawn was a tree. No birds now, though. It was almost Winter and that meant that they'd migrated somewhere.
"Hey, Tree Yawn? Did you knoooow that my wand's made from a tree JUST like you?" It was cool, wasn't it? Yeaaah. Really cool. Well, okay. Not just like it. Her wand was pear. This tree was Rowan.

Well, it seems like Elise was doing a great job at communicating with her own tree. Yep. Her yawns would definitely get to her tree, Beezus thought. Maybe that was their secret code? Yawning? Hmmmmm. Shifty Elise and her tree were shifty.
Beezus can be shifty too. But she was choosing not to because she was still sleepy. No shiftiness for Castell in the morning, you know. That would gave her headaches.
But anyway...not that introductions were over and connections were properly established...it was time to ask the lovely tree a favor. Although, she did hope it didn't answer back. "Hey Birchy..." What if it answered her? Could she run and choose another tree that didn't talk? She supposed she could. "Erm...you know, I'm glad we met today and trust me when I say this, really....I don't want to hurt you this early in our.....relationship." What? They DID have a relationship. "Buuuut...I would have to ask permission to take your bark for my Gandr. You know, a runic wand?" Was it going to answer yet? "You would let me, right?"
...............
......................She waited for an answer.
............................And waited some more.

Jory made his way down to the Pathways where he knew there were loads of trees. He was bound to find a suitable one there. Oh look! There were students there also, obviously doing their Ancient Runes project too. Trying not to disturb them, the boy began his search.
"Gosh, I didn't realise what a lot of trees there were here,'' he thought as he looked around. "Just pick a spot and start looking for a tree you read that would be suitable.'' There were some he could not identify there, but Jory didn't have to worry about not being able to recognise the right trees. He had seen their pictures in the text.
Look! An Oak tree! Yes, it was the first he found so he would go with it. "Oak it is!''

Once Ronnie and Jory had finished feeding Oliver, they all walked down to the pathways. She looked around herself at all the beautiful nature surrounding them, smiling. "It's beautiful out here, isn't it?" she asked, looking at Jory. She always loved taking walks along the pathways. Especially with her friends!
So. Back to DADA. "We can do spell stuff first I guess. When do you wanna do that? We could make a schedule and have times on it for when to meet up." she suggested.

Okay. So now Jory had to communicate with the tree. No problem. At least it was not the Whomping Willow. He moved towards the tree, taking his time though because there were smaller trees and assorted plants around. It would do no good to squash them.
"Right,'' Jory thought. "Close enough.'' He was standing right in front of the Oak tree. "Hi, Oaky,'' he said then grinned a bit. Sounded like the Head Boy's name. Anyway. "I'm Jory and I'm a seventh year Hufflepuff.'' Pause. he felt weird talking to an inanimate object. "So, I suspect being a tree is nice. Well, besides taking on the various weather, that is. But you do tons of good, you know. Like being home to birds and providing shelter.'' Among other things.
Trees were good. Jory wasn't exactly a tree hugger but he did like anything to do with nature.
Gwen was making her way along one of the pathways, leaving tracks of her size five shoes behind on the snow. She wasn’t really sure where she should be going, but a walk seemed a good plan. Ugh. She really should try not to think about that one annoying person anymore.
She couldn’t have possibly fell in love with someone who was genuinely kind? Less rude? Someone who actually cared of other people? No, apparently. No, she couldn’t have. She didn’t. Trying not to think about what had happened lately, Gwendolyn made her way along one of the pathways, thinking that some fresh air would be good. Because she had buried herself in books at the library and she really needed a break.
As she took a few more steps, the seventh year kicked the snow on the ground. It was winter already. And cold. Cold winter. And yet, despite the low temperature, it was her favourite season. Hmm. This would have been a good time for an ‘Ice Princess’ joke. Ugh. Nonono. Stop thinking about that.
Gwen suddenly stopped walking and kneeled to take a handful of snow from the ground, making a snowball out of it. Not minding to look around, she just threw the snowball in a random direction and wanted to continue her walk.

Jory stood there staring, with his palms touching the tree and staring at it as if he expected a reply. But he was actually looking at a nest way high up on one of the branches. At least it looked like a nest. It was sort of hard to see because the leaves were thick.
Anyway. Back to the job at hand. "So, Mr. Tree,'' Jory continued as if he had not paused the conversation. "Er..I would like to make a request. Can I please have a piece of bark from you so I can make a Gandr? Please?''
Being polite was the right way to go, even though the tree is not a real person. The Puff there, feeling awkward. Talking to a tree was weird. But now he began walking around the tree in a clockwise direction. He did this thrice. Now what?
Like, really cold. Like, why hadn't he worn a thicker jacket cold. Or more layers cold. It was that sort of cold. It wasn't surprising that he'd forgotten to wear something warmer as this happened a lot. It wasn't the first, nor would it be the last time that Coulson Bradshaw was outside with the occasional teeth chatter.
He glanced around at the other kids who appeared to be snug and warm. Some of them seemed to be practicing, one was... hugging a tree? Odd.... and another was lazily throwing snowballs. What a lively bunch. He smirked to himself and took a seat on one of the benches.
