At the top of the north tower some ways down from the Astronomy classroom is a large rooftop garden that has been expanded in memory of the late Marion Burbage, substitute professor of Astronomy. Lush green hedges and flower beds line the perimeter of the area and a large fountain greets you towards the opposite end. Located to the left of the fountain is a stone plaque engraved with words from the Headmistress herself which reads :
Rest in peace old friend, beloved wife, renowned stargazer, and special professor. Always in our hearts.
Beside this plaque lays another plaque placed in memory of another professor who gave their life while in service to Hogwarts. The plaque reads :
In Memory of E.M. Forrester, a brilliant space scientist, educator, and Slytherin Head of House. He will be missed.
Wooden benches and tables are scattered throughout the patch for students and professor alike to lounge, reflect on social events, complete homework tasks, and just generally hang out.

Then there was talk of running, Odessa, inclusion, and November. And somehow phoenixes figured into all that.
Ezra stopped trying to keep up.
It all sounded like a bunch of inconsequential things, anyway. He looked up to sky, and his hand rubbed the side of Jefferson Arnold's jar. "If your mouth were broken you wouldn't be able to talk." His eyebrows shot up, mirroring her expression, and purposely taking the comment literally. "What d'you want to call the, uh, asterism?" Creating a constellation was a very strange thing to think about. "Edistar, maybe?" Ezra was decidedly against that idea.
Ezra had good points. Scissors were sharp. Broken mouths didn't talk. Edita; however, decided to bypass any compliments or congratulatory back slaps. They were in class and people were looking. The last thing she wanted was people thinking she liked the Gryffindor because she clapped him in the middle of the back during class.
She left that complicated business to November and her Richie dude.
"Edistar doesn't really," she began trailing off into a mumble. Her eyes narrowed as she stared Ezra down. "It doesn't really work for every other star. There's just the one. THIS one!" she declared, holding out her jar in front of her and clinking it lightly against Ezra's own jar. "Maybe we can marry them and it'll be the Jefferson Edistar."

Now that she had found someone to partner with, they now had to find a group of stars that their own stars could join that would maybe form a nice shape.
Alyssa looked up in the sky. She just didn't want to dump Yvaine in any group of stars. She wanted to be able to find her star among all the other stars. She wanted Yvaine to 'stand out'.
Then she saw them. "Hey Jory look at the group of stars over there." Alyssa pointed trying to direct Jory to the group that she was looking at.
"You see the peak of that mountain. Just look at it and then move your eyes upwards. The cluster over there." Alyssa explained to him.

That was an awful name. Not that she was telling.
If Edistar's future was to eat galaxies like Ed expected her star to, Ezra figured it was a good thing there was only one. He was about to point out as much, he was about to suggest a different name, but then--
--"What?"Ezra was embarrassed on her behalf. No, forget that, he was embarrassed for himself. "No!" It was a terrible idea. "That would be sort of like marrying my kid to yours." That's exactly what it was like. Ezra was appalled that Ed would suggest something like that because it was... very odd. It made him uncomfortable to think about. He tapped the lid of Jefferson Arnold's jar-home. "Besides,"besides. What besides? He tried to come up with something. "Stars don't get married." Bingo! Or did they? "Or do they? Jeffferson Arnold and Edistar are too young to get married, anyways. And they don't really know each other."
Ezra didn't know much about marriage other than what he'd seen between his grandparents and parents, but he was pretty sure you weren't supposed to marry someone you didn't know. "I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to marry someone you don't know."

Edita thought Ezra didn't looks so good but pointing it out would probably make him ignore her, just like every time she said something he didn't want to hear. She swallowed back her concerns but couldn't help but repeat Ezra's 'what' right back to him. Nothing else could be said since it was Ezra's turn to talk or rather protest about, well, everything.
"Well," she started, chewing on the inside of one cheek. Ed shifted her weight to one leg and cocked her hip. "Technically, our stars aren't really children because they have a short life-span compared to normal stars. Pretty sure the Professor said something like that. Right now, they're closer to their dying age than their birth age," clarified Edita, bringing her jar to eye level. Edistar was looking a little blue, in a way that gave her a strange foreboding. "Why are you so upset?"
Edita blinked as she brought her jar down. "Mum also said not to talk to strangers but that didn't seem to stop us from talking the first time." Rules were weird and mostly dumb. "Okay, so what do you want to call our circle? Also, we haven't picked one," she pointed out, flicking a finger at the sky. "A constellation that is."

"Aw, Treyen is impressive - this is Zara" she smiled over to the little jarred star-friend. "Question....do you want to make a BIG group of stars or make a small two-star shapey thingy?" Like snake eyes? She thought with a shrug. They could always wait for Alec and make a smiley-face.

Ezra didn't know what shocked him more, that Edita paid more attention in class than he did, or that he was going to have to explain himself. He explained himself very often to Edita and November, though, so he figured it was the former.

Ezra liked to think he was smarter than people gave him credit for, but it was probably more like he was not always as smart as he gave himself credit for. It was a problem. "You can pick the constellation."

Zara, huh? Cool name. "Hello there, Zara. Aren't you twinkly." Really, she was. As for Mika's question, Ella stroked her imaginary beard. Mo absolutely did not want to send Nova up into the night sky. She wasn't big enough yet, and she needed her jar in order to survive. It was just cruel to send her off to die That couldn't possibly be proper star parenting.
He listened on with interest, Nova clutched to his chest, and when West finished describing Asterisms, Mo inched closer to his best mate. If there was anyone in the entire class he preferred as a partner, someone who knew what they were working on and would have probably hilarious ideas for their pseudo-constellation, that person was obviously West.

They were killing releasing their babies?! That was not cool.
Okay. So it was. Especially since this was practically the same thing she'd requested to do in class. No wonder the Professor had wanted her to stay quiet. She could practically read minds.

She was a good partner choice. Yep. "Hey," Penelope said with a grin. So, cool, partner. Did they need more or...? The professor did say they could have more. But...no one else was approaching right now, so maybe it would just be them. That was fine though. This fourteen-year-old had no complaints.
"Okay, so...we're supposed to make an asterism?" She glanced at their jar stars before looking up at the sky. "What d'you think we should make?"

Edita was missing the point. Fortunately for her, Ezra did not possess the energy or dedication to tell her in how the point had gone right over her head. Instead, he focused his attention on the task at hand, and looked up to the sky.
He supposed that looked like a circle, alright. "Nobody should be fine, up there, I think." Ezra looked down at Jefferson Arnold, almost as if expecting to give its opinion. It was pointless, of course, because stars couldn't speak, so he stopped looking at it, and lifted it above his head. "Are you ready to do this, then?" Ezra didn't need to say goodbye.
He looked up at the shiny jar over his head. "Bye, J.A." Well, maybe he did have to say goodbye. "Have a safe trip home." Wherever that was. Though logic told him home was the inside of the jar as it was all Jefferson Arnold had ever known, but Ezra kept that to himself.

Edita placed her jar above her head. It occurred to her that having the jar on the top of her head meant she couldn't really see her star fly sky high. She let out a sigh, hunching over slightly. "I'm going to miss the lift off," she whined with a sad grin. "Anyways, I'm ready. Do you think it's going to make a lot of noise?" While she waited for Ezra to answer, Edita began to uncap her jar. "Hopefully this won't land us on our butts. That would be really embarrassing."

As Alyssa described what she had in mind for their stars, Jory tried to picture it in his head. And sure enough, he could see it. He nodded. "Yup, I can,'' he said, still looking up at the cluster. Truth be told, he felt as if his head was stuck in that position.
He thought before replying. He didn't mind a diamond but he was trying to see if they could form another shape. But the Puffer nodded again. "A diamond's fine.''

Ezra was inclined to agree with Edita. Having to hold the jar up and take off the lid at the same time sounded like an inconvenience. Why couldn't Professor Flamsteed cast a spell that could shield them from whatever happened once the stars became a constellation? "Uhm," Ezra blindly felt for the the lid. When he found it, he scrunched up his forehead in concentration and rested his palm there.
He probably looked very silly, which embarrassed him. Ezra was not a fan of embarrassment. "Dunno. Maybe? It didn't make any noise when we made them, though. Mine didn't, at least." He cleared his throat. "Three, two, one--"

Alyssa looked at Jory. Was that hesitation in his voice? Had he wanted his star to be a cluster that formed another shape. "Ooookkaaaayyy....if you're sure. " Alyssa nodded.
Oooookkaaayyy....
"So what do you want to name our asterism?" she would give Jory first dibs at picking the name. She had some ideas of her own...and one of her first choices was Tiffany, like the Tiffany Diamonds that some of the other rich people back home wore. But she decided that she wouldn't even suggest that. Nope....that was DEFINITELY too girly a name and she didn't fancy telling the Professor that they had named their asterism after a girl.
She couldn't even imagine herself saying Hey look up there. It's Tiffany. Nope...that wouldn't work at all.

So in all the kerfuffle -- wasn't that a great word? Kerfuffle -- of coming up here, Alec had somehow managed to lose his girlfriend.
Great. So much for being a particularly good finder.
Alec clutched his star-in-a-jar a little closer to his chest as he looked around. People were forming pairs and groups now and... the fifteen year old didn't know what to do. He sort of felt like a small, lost puppy amongst the big dogs, even though he was quite tall for his age. But really. The Hufflepuff ruffles his hair and let a sheepish grin spread across his face as he wandered over towards the two blonde haired girls. As he got closer and closer towards them, he picked up snippets of their conversation. Good. Then he wouldn't be... lost or anything with what the girls were talking about.
"I like capes! They sound very superheroey!" he said as he came to a stop right near the two girls. But... didn't Edna from the Incredibles say no to capes? Although they weren't going on a mission so this was probably okay.
... Wait... "Erm... can I... join you two?" Hair!ruffle.

Should he go up to a random pairing and secretly hope that they liked him enough to let them join their pair? Or should he just-
ELLS! AND MIKA! They'd definitely let him join them, right?
Mika wasn't going to speak for Ella but heck...he was Ella's boyfriend right? AND working with cool people like them who thought about making capes would be fun.
"Hey! Yeah it'd be all Super-hero-capy awesomeness" wow she really didn't sound like a Ravenclaw on that one at all. "I don't mind if you join the more the merrier I say." She smiled brightly over to Alec, "Oh Alec this is Zara" she smiled pointing to the little jarred and still living star.
She didn't want to kill her. She had given her life. AND now she had to send her out of the nest like a bird pushing its baby and hoping it would fly...but she wouldn't fly she'd just sit and give off light and be dead up there. She didn't want to see dead Zara. She'd be all wibbley - but at least others would see her.
"So we all like capes then I think" she squeaked slightly and hugged Zara closer to her. "You shine brightly for me lovey" she smiled to Zara.

And the lid was off.
She felt a pressure on her head, as a whistling sound filled the air. It reminded her of fireworks going off, and she began to tilt her head up to see before she reminded herself that it was best to follow the Professor's instructions if she wanted to keep all her body parts and her hair on her head too.
"Think they're all gone?" there was no sound, and the jar no longer pressed against her head. She chanced a peek, tilting her head slightly before taking off the empty jar all together. "Ah!" she exclaimed, jabbing a finger at the sky. "Think that's it! Nobody's Circle."

There was something weighing down on him, and as soon as he considered dropping to the ground, the weigh disappeared, and he was left holding... nothing. Not even the jar.
Ezra had sort of grown used to that jar.
He followed Edita's finger, and his mouth formed into an 'O' and then curled into a small grin. "Huh." There was a slight feeling of something in the pit of his stomach. It wasn't the uncomfortable sort. "Y'know, somehow I don't think they're going to miss us that much."

Alright... recap?
West and asterisms. That was it. Professor Flamsteed only made talk about asterisms and its difference with constellations. Not that is was something that would confuse too much people. Then Kat shifted her attention to Flamsteed after West spoke. They were going to make an asterisms.
Awesome.
But all that Kat needed was a partner. Or a group. She didn't mind whichever. Just somebody, or people, to work with and so that they could hurry this up. She was going to waste 30 minutes of this. Not at all. So somebody PLEASE take her now? "HEY WHO NEEDS A PARTNER?" Seriously.

She had some ideas of her own...and one of her first choices was Tiffany, like the Tiffany Diamonds that some of the other rich people back home wore. But she decided that she wouldn't even suggest that. Nope....that was DEFINITELY too girly a name and she didn't fancy telling the Professor that they had named their Constellation after a girl.
She couldn't even imagine herself saying Hey look up there. It's Tiffany. Nope...that wouldn't work at all.
Jory finally looked away from the stars and at Alyssa. "That hurts,'' he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Shouldn't have stared up there so long.''
"I'm not sure,'' he replied in relation to the name for the constellation. "How about Vaughn or Zeke or something?'' he asked saying the first random name that popped in his head. "Or we can give it a name that really means something.'' Come to think of it, he liked the idea of naming the constellation that has a meaning. But what?
