The Irie Room (Charms Lesson 1)

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...eIrieRoom4.jpg

This is a special room that the professor designed just for you lovely students. It can either be a beautiful and relaxing
get away or your worst nightmare, it all depends on the circumstances behind you being in the room.

Generally upon entering the room you're greeted by a cool sea breeze and at your first step in you'll realize that you're no longer standing on cold stone but warm sand. Coconut trees are scattered here and there about the beachroom to provide shade from the inconspicuous sun. If you listen more than you yap it's likely you'll hear the ocean.

Please do not enter the room without permission from Professor Bellaire.

Finally she was going to get back at Medea Ramanos for that little stunt she pulled last term at Sophia's last Charms class. The woman had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike and here it was. She was almost bouncing with excitement when she sent the owl to Medea.

Now to wait.

Hehe

Roselyn 09-14-2012 02:41 AM

Honestly...

She was thinking of ignoring the owl.

Despite her thoughts that everything was fine between the two of them, she still had the nervous twisted feeling in the pit of her stomach that everything wasn't. It could only grow as she made her way to the third floor, letter in hand. Perhaps it was just something Sophia needed help with, in which she'd happily do so. Nevertheless, she paused in the doorway, taking in the rather beautiful room while knocking gently on the frame. Medea was heerreee.

"You vonted to see me?"

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 02:46 AM

Oooh look who was finally here.

"Medea! Take your shoes off..come in come in." She was grinning like a Cheshire cat and wiggling her toes in the warm sand. Mhm it was a beautiful day..for now in the Irie room.

"Care for a drink?"

Roselyn 09-14-2012 02:56 AM

Her hesitation grew maximum as she stared at Sophia. She was invited up here for a drink?

That didn't seem horribly wrong. Taking a deep breath, she looked down to the warm sand, quietly clearing her throat. "Sure, of course." she nodded, slipping off her shoes. Placing them to the side, she slowly walked into the room. Merlin, it was indeed real sand. Not that she was expecting it to be super miniature snapping crabs or anything.

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 03:04 AM

Oh good everything was going rather smoothly, not that she expected it not to but still. How could Medea think for one second that Sophia wouldn't get her back for that little stunt?

"Oh Unicorn Dung! I forgot the glasses. Just wait right here while I go get them!" She moved across the sand quickly and slammed the door shut behind her. And yes the door was shut.,..sealed. Alohomora would not work.

Welcome to the Irie Room Ramanos.

Roselyn 09-14-2012 03:16 AM

Oh?

Taking a step to the side and turning a one-eighty, following Sophia's every movement, Medea stared blankly at the door as it was slammed shut. "Alright?" Biting her lip, she frowned, glancing around the room. Seriously, there were no crabs in here right?

The cool breeze was a bit relaxing. Placing her hands on her hips, she went back to staring at the door.

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 03:24 AM

After slamming the door shut, Sophia put her ears to the door to listen if Medea was trying to come out or not. Seemed she wasn't. Honestly the woman was a bit naive. It all worked out in her favour though, she could test the room and get her revenge on Medea all in one go. Well here it went...

She tapped the door three times with her wand and waited..

Mean while in the room..

There was a faint rapping sound coming from the other side of the door. Immediately following the tapping was a very heavy down pour of rain. The thatch roof huts would do very little in the way of shelter. Following the rain was very winds that knocked the chairs about the room. If there was anyone or anything still standing it wouldn't be for long.

On the plus side, though the coconut trees were almost touching its roots with it's branches they didn't seem to be breaking.

Roselyn 09-14-2012 03:46 AM

Stare.

Downpour. Wind. Chair. Another chair.

Stare some more.

Narrowing her eyes as her hair whipped around her, Medea huffed and sighed. She should've known. Her narrowed eyes turned into squinting as she looked around, having to balance herself in more than one occasion. "SOPHIA!" Gosh darnit! Moving backwards towards the door, since she didn't have much choice in which way she could face at the moment, she took out her wand, throwing up a few shields to protect herself from any flying objects and the rain. The wind on the other hand...

Her hand grabbed the doorknob. Of COURSE it was locked.

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 03:51 AM

Oh now there was knocking. Pfft. She'd let the woman stay in there a bit longer, until it all soaked in. She giggled quietly to herself but made no attempts to open the door. Instead the charms professor conjured up a chair just outside the door and relaxed, crossing her legs while she was at it.

Yep the room worked like a charm. Giggle.

Roselyn 09-14-2012 04:02 AM

Wiggling the doorknob, as if that'd help open it, she scoffed and let it go, focusing on strengthening her shields and working out a way to fix this. Back flat against the door, she took a deep breath and dropped the shields, quickly pointing her wand at the doorknob. "Alohamora!"

Wiggle wiggle...

Nothing! Throwing up her shields again and hastily wiping away a piece of wet hair sticking to her equally wet face, she held her arm up in front of her eyes to keep the wind from blowing out from her head. Merlin, never cross the Charms Professor. "SOPHIA! I GET IT! I'M SORRY!"

Though the woman could've had a better sense of humor.

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 04:07 AM

Oooh magic words!! Ding Ding.

She had a heart, she really did. Most people just never took the time to get to know her well enough for her to show it. And here she was on the verge of being nice and no one was around to witness it. Oh well.

She tapped the door again with her wand and waited for the roar of the wind and rain to die down before opening the door.

Sophia poked her head in after it all calmed. "Oh my Medea..what happened in here?" She tried her darn hardest to look shocked and concerned.

"You'd think a hurricane passed through here!"

Roselyn 09-14-2012 04:16 AM

It came as a surprise and a relief when the wind and rain started to die down. In fact, for a moment, she hadn't registered that it was, but being able to take a step forward and not forced back against the door was indicator enough. Taking deep breaths, she turned and stared at Sophia as she opened the door, acting all innocent like she was.

Innocent. Innocent. Right.

Medea, on the other hand, didn't answer the Charms Professor. She stood there, soaking wet, sand in places she'd rather it not be, a stretched look of disbelief on her face, and feeling utterly...cold. "I'm going to haff to take a rain-check on that drink, Sophia."

Rain-check. Rain...check. Humor! Medea had it!

Davvy_Wavvy 09-14-2012 04:25 AM

Oh the look of the woman in front of her would have been enough to make anyone feel sorry for her...anyone who had not been tricked into running for their lives from a non existent forest monster!!

She felt better now though, so much better now that she got her revenge.

In fact, the charms professor couldn't help but roar with laughter at Medea's rain check comment. Now that..that right there was funny..not imaginary monsters in the middle of her class.

She gave the woman a good natured slap on the arm a la her laughing episode. "Now that..was kind of funny. Sure you don't want that drink?"

It wasn't laced with veritaserum honest. O_O

Roselyn 09-14-2012 04:32 AM

Inching out of the room, just incase Sophia decided to shove her back in, which Medea would have no problem bursting down the door if that were the case, she laughed shakily along with the woman, only faltering after that slap on the arm. Oh, okay.

"No, I erm..." She glanced down the hall. "I should really be getting back my lesson planning. Thank you...though. Next time for sure."

Inch. Inch. Down the hall.

Davvy_Wavvy 09-18-2012 12:04 PM

Class starts here

After that test run with Medea, the Irie room is back to how it was before, sandy floor brilliant blue skies via a charmed ceiling and of course the whole tropical beach looking setting is back.

Remember to leave your shoes at the door.

Professor Bellaire is currently relaxing in a beach chair waiting for your arrival..take a seat or stand, it's up to for now.

sweetpinkpixie 09-18-2012 12:20 PM

Bag over her shoulder, everything tucked in where it should be, and hair tied back in a tight pony tail, Kurumi entered the Irie Room - a room that the Gryffindor hadn't even been aware was around until the Charms notice had gone up for today's lesson. Slipping her shoes off first, Kurumi left them by the door and then her socks - rolling these up into a ball and tucking them inside her shoes afterwards. She wasn't about to walk around on sand with her socks on...it was beyond uncomfortable.

Several things were new for Kurumi, besides the room itself, but namely this was the FIRST time she had both felt and smelled a sea breeze and...she wanted to go to the real thing. Not just a room that had been charmed to look like a beach. "Good day, professor," Kurumi said after a few moments of simply gawking at everything.

hermygirl 09-18-2012 12:56 PM

Charms. It wasn't a subject he really wanted to take to NEWT level, however he needed to at least make the effort to feel a bit more confident in the subject. And so he was here.

Spike perked up considerably when he saw the contents of the new room he'd never heard of before. There was a beach...and sand...and a blue sky! He quickly pulled off his school shoes, and roughly poked his black socks in the top before stepping into the sand. He wiggled his toes, and grinned as he headed for a beach chair.

"You could have told me I needed a bucket and spade, Professor!" he said with a smile.

Weasley174 09-18-2012 01:07 PM

Laura took off her shoes at the door and smiled at the Professor as she got into the room. "Good day Professor." Laura smiled. "How are you?" Laura then decided to say something that had been bothing her. "Professor if you had told me we would be having the lesson on a tropical island." Laura sighed, because it looked like one. "I would have brought a bikini with me, I could do with a nice tan." Laura giggled, before going and sitting down on a chair.

Bazinga 09-18-2012 01:14 PM

Minerva wasn't sure as she walked toward the room. Was she in the correct place? She walked into the room and was hit by a sea breeze that made her smile. She thought of the times her family went to the beach. As she made her way in Minerva slipped off her shoes and stepped on the floo.. no wait sand, yes it seemed like sand. Which again Minerva smiled, where they having a vacation or going to class either was okay with Minerva.

Looking around she saw Kurumi and smiled waving at the prefect then turned her focus to the professor Minerva smiled, "Hello Professor, this room is lovely." she couldn't help, but feel her self smile bigger. Moving out of the way of the door Minerva made her way into the room still looking around and taking in the smell.

Enigma 09-18-2012 01:15 PM

Now charms was a subject that Ira liked. A bit less than Arithmancy, but still, sh liked. So, smiling, she skipped towards the Charms classroom, her bag on her shoulders. Oh wait! The lesson was gonna be held in the Irie Room, whatever that was. Ira hadn't heard any mention of such a room.

But one look at the room refreshed hr. Wow! This was beautiful! Leaving her shoes at the door, she walked in following Minerva, and greeted the charms Professor who was looking charming herself by the way,, "Good day professor Bellaire! This looks beautiful! Really!" before smiling at Laura, who she had heard mention of bikinis and tan. Yeah, that would have been great! No lesson, just fun!

And the first set of students were starting to arrive. This was good. Hopefully none of them would be late for her first lesson. She waved her hand lazily at Kurumi. That's the thing with this room..when it was having weather like this..it made you feel so relaxed you became completely lazy.

"Good day Ms.Hollingberry."

Professor Bellaire raised an eyebrow at the boy. Bucket and Spade? What was he six years old? NO there would be no need for such things and he'd see that for himself soon.

"You'll find that you'll have no need for such things Mr.Hutchinson."

See that, she was certainly not joking either.

"Thank you thank you." The room was actually a replica of one of her favourite beaches from back home on the island. "I'm glad you all like it."

Was it just her..or did the students just not seem so horrible this term.

Poolicious 09-18-2012 01:39 PM

Shoes off. That was the first thing Messer did when he was about to enter the Charms classroom. Instead the usual classroom atmosphere, he was greeted by a beach, sand, and beautiful blue sky. WOW! So this how the Irie Room look like.

"Hello, Professor Bellaire. How are you today?"

oh its Erik ok 09-18-2012 02:32 PM

Nigel walks in and immediately notices the sand. Since Nigel did not want sand in his shoes. He takes them off, puts them in his bag, and walks over to the professor.

"Hello, Professor Bellaire. Are we having a beach party because that would be awesome!"

It would be so much fun if they would have a party on this beach thing today.

Lockhartian 09-18-2012 02:49 PM

Oh.

OH!

OH THIS WAS AMAZING! Lottie suddenly smiled, AND WIDELY, at the sight of this. She was rather wary of this summer scenery since she had no idea what they'll be doing. BUT...OH MERLIN!

"GOOD DAY PROFESSOR!" she said, rather loudly, before taking her shoes off and placing them inside her bag before someone decided to charm them away, leaving her shoe-less after the lesson and walking around like a silly Hufflepuff on top of that.

The first year almost bounced her way into the classroom, by the way.

Excitement. Uncertainty. Heh.

It would come as no surprise to anyone that knew him, that Thomas Ashley Broadmoor as NOT a fan of Charms. In fact, the only classes he really.. enjoyed was too strong a word; the only classes he really tolorated was Muggle Studies and Creatures, because with those particular subjects he didn't feel like he had failed before he had even begun.

With his bag over shoulder, he crouched down to remove his shoes and socks. He straightened up and walked into the.. 'fingy' room (he couldn't remember the name so that would suffice. He just knew it was a short word with a confusing jumble of letters which all looked the same), to be greeted by a pleasant breeze, soft, warm sand under foot, and the familiar smell of the air in St Ives where his brother and his wife lived. It brought a smile to the young lad's face. This was nice. Charms would be nice today. Maybe Professor Bellaire would allow them to enjoy fish and chips and ice cream. That was what you did in St Ives. The salt air seemed to make everything taste far better than it ever did in London.

"Ello, Professah." He greeted the professor.

He spotted lovely Kurumi and walked over to her, giving her a smile in greeting.

MudInMyBlood 09-18-2012 04:38 PM

Charms. Hannah wasn't sure how to take this professor. All she knew is that last year she was pretty anal and well...mental. Still maybe she just thought she had to be that way because it was her first time teaching here. Only time will tell. She walked into the room and was immediately taken off guard. Wow. She sooo wasn't expecting this.

Hannah loved the beach and sun. She didn't like to get dirty though. Hmmm...she was instantly wondering what they would be doing today. She spotted the professor lounging and nodded to her. "Hello professor." She looked around for her friend Elliot to see what she thought about the whole thing.

Tazzie 09-18-2012 04:41 PM

Irie Room.

The Noticeboards said that they were going to have their first Charms lesson at the Irie Room. Err, so what was an Irie Room? Or more importantly, what was inside it?

Adjusting and straightening her necktie, Beezus pushed open the door that supposedly led to the said room. And to her bewilderment, she was welcomed by a soft, soothing breeze. Hmmmm. Smelled like the sea, and vanilla ice cream, and peppermint. Heh. She glanced around for a while before taking off her shoes and placing it beside the shoes already lined near the entrance.

Wow. This place was epic. She felt like she was on a vacation on a beach or something. The sandy texture brought a tinge of tickling sensation on her notes that she wanted to bury her whole feet on the sand. Ah, there were coconut trees too! She knew how to climb one actually. Hehe.

After a few minutes of being lost in what seemed like an alternate reality, the Ravenclaw walked over to where their Charms Professor was, "Hello Professor Bellaire." Smiiiile. "This is a rather unique room." she commented, clearly impressed. And they were going to hold their class there? Double-triple awesome!

emjay 09-18-2012 05:22 PM

*sitting next to Spike* :)

Charms wasn't exactly one class Ethan was looking forward to as he felt he was rather rubbish with a wand, but he had to admit that he was pleasantly surprised when he walked into the room. A beach?! The Ravenclaw stood in the doorway, slightly stunned, as he took in the sight. Now this was a classroom! He shot the professor a grateful smile as he made his way through the sand and chose a beach chair next to the Ravenclaw prefect.

The "room" reminded him a little bit of the south of France - a place he dearly loved and sorely missed, but he was mildly surprised that the setting made him feel more blissfully relaxed than homesick. He glanced over at the fellow Claw next to him and, seeing that the other boy had removed his socks and shoes, Ethan did the same and dug his toes into the warm sand. "Niiiiiice," he murmured as he leaned back in his chair, completely relaxed. Every class should be like this one.

TeafortheSoul 09-18-2012 05:46 PM

"Hello professor." West greeted cheerfully upon entering, but the cheer fell away to suspicion at the state of the room and all. What was wrong with a regular classroom? How was anyone supposed to concentrate when there weren't even any walls?

He found a spot and waited for things to begin, not looking too convinced as of yet.

TakemetotheBurrow 09-18-2012 06:06 PM

This was....This was...This was absolutely brilliant! Ella was grinning, bag slung over her shoulder, as she walked into the Irie Room and took in the sights...and scents...of the beach. It was lovely. Bending down, the third year removed her shoes and socks, tucking the latter neatly into her shoes and placing them to the side.

"Hello Professor Bellaire, this place looks brilliant!" She greeted excitedly, before heading over to sit next to her favorite 'Uncle.' "Hey Messy!" The blonde said quietly before plopping down in the sand and placing her bag beside her. Now where was Soph? Ells had thought she was right behind her...

FireboltAvis88 09-18-2012 06:17 PM

Alyssa walked into the classroom and was amazed at what she saw. As she continued to walk in, she realized that the surface she was walking on had changed. It was now sand. Alyssa looked up to see that the entire classroom had changed. It looked like they were on the beach. She could even see coconut trees and smell the ocean air.

Taking off her shoes, so that she could curl her toes in the sand, Alyssa walked up to the Professor.

"You did an awesome job here Professor. Can we get to keep the room the way it is after we're done with class?" Alyssa smiled in greeting.

She turned her head and spotted Ella and Messer and walked over to join them.

lazykitty 09-18-2012 06:25 PM

As Emmanuelle walked into class, she did a double take. What whhhaaat? Beach? In the middle of Hogwarts? This brought a huge smile to her face, since she had begun to miss the sand already. So it was with eagerness that she slipped her shoes off, letting her toes sink into the stuff for a few seconds before finding herself a seat. Right on the sand. Yep, this was the life. "Hello, professor!"

Lollipop! 09-18-2012 06:38 PM

Chaaaaaarms Class.

With the scary teacher. Uh-oh. The little girl skipped into class, taking a couple of seconds to realize that she wasn't skipping on stone floors but... sand? Damn. It was HARD skipping on sand. Frown-y face. Oh and WHAT IN MERLIN'S ANKLES?! Why were they on a beach? And were they inside or outside? Meh. Confusing.

Still frowning, she went up to Bellaire and, wanting to get on her better side gave a very polite "How're you, professor?"

And walked a little bit away and dropped her bag down and sat on it.

She did not want to get sand on her robes, thank you very much.

sarahlooo 09-18-2012 06:43 PM

Milton entered the Charms classroom as he usually did - by opening the door. But it was DIFFERENT. Obviously. He had brought his galoshes, as instructed, but he just assumed they would be outside in the rain or something. Not a beach. But he wondered why they would need rainboots for a beach... Interesting.

After the mild surprise passed, Milton walked onto the beach and took his shoes off and slipped them into his school bag, not wanting anyone to steal them. They were expensive, after all.

Walking further, Milton joined the rest of the students and set his bag next to a chair before plopping down onto it. "I could work on my tan." Har har.

Princesspower 09-18-2012 06:45 PM

Sarah walked into charms, rather nervously. She had checked her appearnce before she ha come in... this teacher was really fussy with externals.. perhaps it freaked the teacher out too much to delve into her internal appearance... Sarah concentrated her efforts on her internal though, because in her opinion she had no external beauty to think of. "Hello Professor!" she said. She decided to stand for a bit

Lady of the Lake 09-18-2012 06:48 PM

How did she do it? Ariadne was stunned. Upon entering the designated classroom, she was expecting to see ordinary desks and chairs, but she was greeted by a tropical paradise instead. 'Wow, this is breathtaking.' the girl commented out loud. Were they taking a vacation?

With someone as no-nonsense as Professor Bellaire, it was highly unlikely. Still, a student could dream, right? Walking closer to where the Professor sat, Ari greeted politely. 'Hello, Professor. I'm looking forward to whatever it is that we are going to do today. The room looks fantastic.' It was bound to be an interesting class.

After a while, Ariadne decided against sitting down. She hated when sand got everywhere. Yes. Better stand.

Making her way to charms, Sutton had been really nervous. If there was ever a class that would give obvious evidence to how far behind she was, it was going to be Charms class. All it was was magic. Feeling very nervous, Sutton walked into the room and noted the pile of shoes at the door. She slipped off hers and added them to the rows of shoes and entered the classroom... which was actually... a beach?!

"Woah!" Sutton uttered in awe as she looked around the room, smiling. Spotting the Professor, she ran across the room to him with a smile. Maybe this class wouldn't be soooo bad. Stopping in front of the professor, she said brightly, "Hello, Professor! I'm Sutton Piatek! I just transfered here this year!" It was seriously beautiful in here!

Looking around, she tried to see if there was anyone else in class yet that she knew. Spotting Minnie, she walked through the warm sand toward her friend. "Minnie! Hi! This is great! Is it always like that?" she asked in a bright voice, her green eyes wide with wonder. This was by far the coolest magic she had seen so far.

Holmesian Feline 09-18-2012 07:22 PM

Wand and common sense were things that would normally or should normally be brought to charms class. But when a cloak and galoshes were mentioned as needed as part of the class announcement, one tended to be warned that something was up. Especially seeing as it wasn't even nasty outside to warrant either so it wasn't like the class would be moving in that direction.

However when Gideon approached the room apparently set aside for the lesson of the day the prefect was confused. One, they were supposed to leave their shoes outside as per usual which the seventh year carefully did, leaving him in his bare feet. And two...they were welcomed by a nice warm islandy landscape complete with sand and palm trees.

Would the cloak be needed? he mused to himself as he spotted the professor sitting in a beach chair. "Good day Professor," he greeted politely before going back to his musings.

What was that class topic to be today...oh right...weather. Yeah...something was probably going to happen. So despite the warm feeling now, Gideon left the cloak he had brought with him in his arms as he stood of to one side to await class to begin.

The galoshes instructions for Charms classes didnt really struck this Ravenclaw as something unusual-- they are in the Scottish Highlands after all, and he's gotten used to weather in this country in which galoshes seem to be a requirement in every home. But when Vickers passed the threshold to this room he could only stop and stare...

..... its a tropical paradise. What did they need galoshes for?

But the highly inviting sun, sand and surf wasnt something he would drop the rubber boots for, in fact he made his way under the clump of coconut trees that gave the most shade.

He did wish Bellaire told them about this room. That way he wouldve done something to save himself from the inevitable sunburn.

West hadn't yet unpacked his things, and he wouldn't until he knew what was going on. So the things on the list were in his bag... except galoshes. What twelve year old boy had those? No, he had rubber wellies of course. Much cooler.

Belle entered the charms classroom and was excited to see what this lesson was going to be about. Belle was in awestruck by the surroundings. This was amazing and she felt like she was on a tropical beach. It felt like she was vacation with her family again. Belle noticed the professor and she greeted her saying, "Good morning Professor, i am loving the location place." she said with a smile. She took and seat and she took off her cloak because it was quite warm in here.

Harlow dragged herself to class not really paying attention to which one it was. It was a feat of strength that she had pulled herself out of bed and managed to find clothes that fit all the limbs of her body. She wasn't sure what state her hair was in. Harlow hadn't been able to find the comb she had lost in her hair last week. A simple spell could have straightened her hait, but for the life of her she couldn't remember it.

Her creative blockage was not affecting her magic. It was going from bad to worse and she couldn't figure out what was going on with her.

She noticed the sign on the door about taking her shoes off and she was startled to find that she had left the dorms without even putting in on. "Oh great," she groaned.

This was a terrific start to the day. She was scared to look down and see what else she was or wasn't wearing. At least the shoes were a moot point right now as she had to take them off.

Harlow quickly found a empty seat next to a fellow Slytherin.

Oakey came into new room and was instantly in shock about it's location. The last time he was at a beach was when...when he was bitten by a Mackled Malaclaw. The damn lobster-thing that started it all.

He wanted to keep his shoes on for sure, to be safe. In case this beach room housed creatures as well.
He took his shoes off, but carried them with him up to the Professor. walking slowly and watching the sand for any kind of movement."Ma'am if it's okay with you. I'd much prefer to keep my shoes on, just in case."

Bellaire's class meant every teeny detail was supposed to be taken care of. Louisa spent half an hour before class fixing her uniform; skirt, tie, shirt, and shoes. Then she wore her cloak and put on galoshes. All the way down to the classroom, her mind raced through several ideas. Maybe they were going to charm those galoshes to they stick to walls and everyone will be wall-walking? Sounded pretty fun.

However, when the Ravenclaw walked into the room, she wasn't hit by the utter cleanness smell as usual but it was... "Huh?" BLINK. Did she just... blackout? Louisa took a moment to recognize her classmates and see the professor sitting there, all relaxed and stuff. She smiled, took her shoes off and walked on, "Hello professor."

Upon seeing Vickers, this whole place was just plain and this 'claw was the reason her face beamed. She headed to where he stood (?) and positioned herself next to him. "Hi," she said a bit timidly.

Not bad timid but good timid. Ya know.

Somnium 09-18-2012 08:40 PM

Tay came in and glanced around, leaving her shoes at the door. Taylor didnt go near the professor nor speak to her since she didnt feel like trying to be polite today.

Kmaeh 09-18-2012 08:43 PM

Theo looked GOOD, if he said so himself. Sure, everyone knew that professor Bellaire was rather precise about keeping clean and tidy, but Theo also was keen to keep his FAVOURITE professor impressed with him. They were friends, right? Right.

H-h-h-HOLD UP. This room was a beach. It was a beach. Theodore really loved this school sometimes.

"HI, PROFESSOR!" He beamed, kicking off his smart shoes at the door and skipping through the sand. "I like what you've done with the place." The second year lay down straight away and rested his hands behind his head.

DaniDiNardo 09-18-2012 10:30 PM

What in Merlin's beard was an 'Irie room'? That was one term that the 11 year old had never been introduced to before. That, of course, was the only reason she even bothered showing up to the terrible Professor's class. Yes. Terrible. What nice Professor would point their wand at a student that came to them for help?!?!

She watched others entering a room and figured that must have been the place. Entering she saw the Professor relaxing....really?

Forcing out a polite tone she turned to the woman. "Good day Professor." That was all she was getting. Nothing more than that.

Now that the Professor was out of the way she took a look around the room. IT WAS AMAZING!!! And so warm too. Walking a few steps further she noticed that her shoes left such distinct marks. NEAT!! She trodded a few steps more so she could marvel at the prints. Then, not needing to be invited to sit, Lex threw herself down on the sand and tried getting more comfortable as she waited for the lesson to begin while occupying herself with the shoe prints in the nice sand...such lovely shoe prints toooo.

As Kai walked swiftly into the room to make sure he was on time, he stopped, his eyes darting to his feet. Eurgh. Sand in his shoes. He grimaced and bent down to remove his shoes and socks, before scrunching his toes into the sand - it felt just like summer again.

He now pushed his attention rather quickly towards his professor, "Good afternoon Professor, how are you today? Did you enjoy your summer?" he asked politely. It was essential to be polite to professors, especially during the first lesson back!
Kai looked around the room at the other students, walked into the middle of them and dropped onto the sand...he could get used to lessons like this.

SilverDragon 09-19-2012 12:15 AM

Woah, not what she had been expecting to find in Hogwarts, at least not from a professor who was all about order and cleanliness. Another reminder to always expect the unexpected. It reminded her of the changes their former Ancient Runes professor made to his classroom.

Silvia removed her shoes and stepped into the room. She wasn’t keen on getting sand between her toes, but it would be easier to clean than sand-filled shoes. “Hello Professor,” she said as she went to stand beneath a tree. It seemed nice and relaxing here, even though Silvia wasn’t particularly fond of beaches or anything. But she wondered just what kind of lesson this would be. Strange to be holding class in a place that could serve as a distraction for less attentive students. They must be learning something that had to do with the outdoors or weather or something along those lines.

Leeness 09-19-2012 12:16 AM

Bellaire was a favourite of Elijah's, despite having hefty competition with Burbage this term, considering she appreciated the importance of looking good and essentially... being hawt.

*POSE*

So, Elijah entered Charms, as he always done, in his finest robes fit to impress. However, these particular robes were thicker than his normal ones and he hadn't quite realised the weather he was going to be experiencing as he stepped into the room...

Perhaps this was a chance to get topless again like he had done (unintentionally) in Transfiguration? He could do with a tan. Merlin knew that this dreary Scottish weather made him paler than Hadley discovering 1+1 didn't equal 2.

Elliot was running a little late, having just hastily helped Presley write a letter to her father...while she was very glad they had made up and all, she hadn't been paying attention to the clock! GAH!

So when she stepped into the room...

What. In. Merlin's. Smelly. SOCKS WA GOING ON??!!

'Good day, Professor..." she said, looking around in...shock. SHOCK.

She felt the sand squish down as she stepped on it...she saw Hannah's mane of blonde hair, and immediately set out to sit next to her...she spotted Alexa..."Hey, Lex," she shot her little minion a smirk.and oOOH! Another minion! "Lottie!" she waved at the girl, sending her a smirk as well...she nodded at Beezus...The Ravenclaw that she always seemed to have the same classes with.

Hmph.

She didn't see anyone else, or anyone important, anyways, for Soaps was there...Ew.

Sand? That wasn't what Kendall had expected upon walking into Charms. Of course, it was Charms class, so things being not like a normal classroom was almost expected. But she felt kind of overdressed in her school robes and the usual combat boots. She'd brought a pair of galoshes in her bag as requested, but she hadn't wanted to wear them. Combat boots worked just as well, as far as she was concerned. She couldn't figure out why cloaks and galoshes were needed at the beach, though. The beach meant swimsuits, and it was definitely warm enough for them, even if it wasn't anywhere other than in the classroom.

She still took her boots and socks off at the door as always was the case, slipping them into her bag too instead of leaving them in the pile by the door. Her boots were more important than that, and she'd still taken them off. So she was still following rules. Plus, it meant that she could squish her toes in the sand as she walked toward the clump of trees slowly. "Hi Professor Bellaire!," she greeted the woman, as she'd passed the beach chair to plop into a seat on the sand. Maybe they'd be able to make sand castles if they got lucky. Although there was still that question of the cloaks and galoshes.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 09-19-2012 01:38 AM

At first, Penelope wasn't entirely sure she was in the right place. Weren't they supposed to be in a classroom, not a beach? Not that she minded, really. She liked the beach - or at least, she'd liked the one Coul had taken her to over the summer. This one reminded her a little of that. So this was okay, in her opinion. She took off her shoes and socks, stuffed her socks into her shoes, left them at the door, and stepped barefoot into the sand. Ahhh, this was one of her favorite parts about the beach. The sand felt so nice.

"Hi, Professor," she greeted the woman before heading for a spot to sit and wait for class to start.

Cassirin 09-19-2012 01:49 AM

Whyyyy was it so sunny and sandy and flat out HOT in here? Not that Vivi opposed the beach, but she was wearing her thick cloak and plaid wellies and... well...

She was sweltering. Ugh. Vivi wilted against a tree for a bit before squaring her shoulders and joining the rest of the class. "Good day, Professor. Bit sunny today, hmm?"

Anna Banana 09-19-2012 01:51 AM

Stepping into the classroom, Sierra Greingoth paused and looked around. Whoa. This sort of reminded her of the time she, her mom, and her dad went to Hawaii just after her second year. Or was it third? No, maybe it was first. Ehh, whichever year it was didn't make a difference.

She was back at the beach.

Well, for now, at least. "Hello, Professor," she said, nodding toward the professor before heading further into the room to find a place to sit.

Eliza practically skipped as she made her way to The Irie Room for Charms class. She had been looking forward to it ever since she received her Hogwarts acceptance letter. She had taken extra care in straightening her robes and tie this morning and was feeling pretty optimistic about the day.

Once she found the right room, she opened the door and felt a warm breeze rush past her. She had no idea what she was looking at exactly, but she stepped through the doorway and was taken aback by what she saw. “It’s…it’s a beach!” she exclaimed internally. She loved the beach! She looked around and saw a beautiful sky, clear water, and warm soft sand. She tore off her socks and shoes, set them by the row the other students had already started, and sunk her toes into the sand. “Ahhh,” she sighed. “This is going to be the best class ever!” she thought to herself excitedly.

She walked past the Professor’s beach chair and said, “Hello Professor! I’m really excited for your class!” She resisted the urge to run through the sand so that she wouldn’t kick particles into anyone’s eyes. She dipped her feet in and out of the sand as she made her way to an empty plot of sand, near the center of where others had already sat down. She wanted to be in on all the action for this class!

Excitement. Uncertainty. Heh.

Hmmmmm. The accent, she had some work to do with this one. "Hello ProfessOR." She corrected but with a smile. "And good day to you sir."

"It is unique but then I do have a very unique lesson planned as well. So I do hope you're prepared."

Ya know.

"Good day good to you all. And thank you. It took some time but it will be here all term." She looked at her watch then reluctantly got to her feet. It was almost time to start her lesson.

"Good day ladies. Welcome to Charms class. Do get comfortable." She offered them both a smile.

Rounding the corner Nell came to a screeching stop at the sight of the room. Eyes widening with amazing she took a few steps into the room and marveled at the sight. Was this really sand? Curious she bent down and grabbed a handful and let it fell between her fingers. Smiling she was sorely tempted to kick off her shoes and go barefoot. Her eyes scanned the others students and she noticed a few had had the same idea as her.

Grinning Nell kicked off her shoes and socks wriggling her bare toes in the sand. "Heya Professor!" She stuffed her shoes in her bag and joined the rest of the class.

i forgot the greeting to Bellaire *headdesk*

In the brightness of the sun Vickers had to squint just to try to control that much BRIGHTNESS from pouring into his vision. Finally he spotted the Charms Professor some ways away and gave her a wave hello in greeting. He was about to ask her if she had any sunscreen on her because he could almost feel his skin starting to sizzle when he felt someone join him under the shade...

SPOILER!!: Louisa <3 and yup he's standing

Though Cassia wasn't good at charms...much. She still quite liked the lesson because you know they can use their wand at it. Not so perfect sense it made but for the twelve-years old it was so perfect.

So when Cassia entered the room she stood still taking in the whole scene. Erm...they were having a lesson here right? It wasn't some kind of a secret resort Cassia had just discovered by accidently stepping into this room that led to another dimension or something. the second-years imagination was getting activated. However, when she glanced a couple of familiar faces and the Professor standing there she realized that this where the lesson is held. Ignoring how disappointing that was.

Well, at least it meant that this lesson is supposed to be.....something out of the ordinary. Or so she hoped. Stepping further inside ,Cassia smiled at Professor Bellair ," Like the scene." she said meaning it. Because you know there didn't seem to be a board yet and that was cool.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 09-19-2012 05:20 AM

Oooo, Charms! Another class that Aidan didn't realize he was so excited about! It was less gross, but had more to do with MAGIC, right?! He loooooooooooved using his wand! ....Even if he hadn't gotten a single spell down yet.

Maybe this'll be the class, yeah? Today's the day?

"HI," he greeted the professor as he walked in and took in his surroundings.

A BEACH?! He'd NEVER been to a BEACH before!!!! And this was as good as the real thing, right? FELT like it.

The first thing Aidan did was kick off his shoes. Literally. They went flying somewhere. And wiggle his toes around. It'll keep him occupied for a while, feeling the sand.

FearlessLeader19 09-19-2012 05:54 AM

Jory was taken aback at the Room's setting. It was a beach! "Didn't see that one coming,'' he thought.

"Hello, Professor,'' he said still taking int the "beach". "It's great to see you again.'' He couldn't stop looking around. It looked so awesome and he was now looking forward to the lesson more than ever.

Elliot! She hadn't seen the girl in what felt like ages agoooo. So, obviously, she got a smile and a wave in return. A small wave, of course, she wasn't one to flail about. Except for her previous moment of excitement...that wasn't entirely gone.

How come the coolest Ravenclaw had a face that only meant she didn't want to be here? Lottie didn't linger much on that thought as she turned to the Professor.

DAY RUINED.

She didn't see who else was coming through that door, so there was no way she could've seen this boy coming. Much less the shoe coming her way.

Okay, no, she did see where it came from, she just didn't notice in time. GLARE. Thank Merlin she was still standing, for had she been sitting...the shoe would've hit her. Instead, it fell almost on top on her bare feet considering the shoe was an inch away from her right foot. Ouch much? Gravity would've been truly awful for her pretty toes. "Watch iiiit." She said to the boy in question.

Ravenclaw little boys were so annoying. First, Dust boy, now Shoe boy.

Kat went inside the classroom and saw that a fair few number of students were already there. And so was Professor Bellaire. Kat blushed, thinking she might've been late.

"Good day, Professor," she said, blushing harder and took a seat.

"Oh how graciously prompt of you. Thank you Theo, three points for being so alert." She took a long drink of the coconut water and beamed. "In fact, have a gold star." With a tap of her wand on his robes, a shiny gold star appeared.

She needed to get this class going before the room made her look positively soft or Hadley like.

Kat sat straight. Probably Professor Bellaire would start her lesson in about... soon after she drinks that lovely cup of coconut water. AND A SHIIIINY GOLD STAR WOW. Ok ok, Kat needs to pull herself together. She shouldn't take Charms for granted.

Nigel was only slightly disappointed that there was no beach party. But he was excited to learn what they would be doing today. He went bare foot to a empty spot and sat down.

Nigel had to hand it to Theo for being so alert and helping Professor Bellaire. He even got points for it.Well now Nigel wondered what they would be doing today since it was not a beach party.

Ella was enjoying the scenery when she noticed Theo positively BEAMing at Professor Bellaire. Hehehe. Someone had a BIG crush on the professor, eh? The third year turned to Sophie, eyebrows raised. Was she seeing this too? Grin. The small badger was a bit upset she didn't jump up to get the water though, especially if there were points involved. House points, shmouse points. It was ALL about the gold stars for Theodore. He wasn't sure why, but he liked to stick them at the pillars of his bed at the end of the day.

"You are very, very welcome, professor." Theo said, BEAMING. "And thanks for the star, it's awesome!" But let's get this straight. Did he have the house points AND the star? Or just a star in compromise for the points. It was information that he needed to know, but wouldn't ask for.

He quickly removed his shoes and socks and rearranged the bag on his shoulder before entering the room.

Maybe professor should provide everyone with some treat on the beach or the classroom whatever it was at the moment. That would be real fun.

OH DEAR MERLIN!

She had the urge to take the shoe that was still on the floor because she never took it and throw it back at him or far, far away. Why? Well, that's the best way to shoo someone from so close-by. But, gross, she wasn't going to pick up a shoe that wasn't hers.

Instant roll of the eyes. "THAT...," fingers pointing at the shoe, "...almost hit me." Got it?

Now pick up your shoe and go. Thank you.

Violet was more than eager when she saw the notice board today! It could only mean one thing: CHARMS, also known as, Violet's favorite class! When she had arrived earlier in class, she was more than amazed to see that the classroom had changed into this sort of, tropical getaway! It was simply gorgeous! Violet couldn't believe how beautiful it was, from the warm sand, the calming clear blue ocean, and the gentle breeze blowing through her golden locks. It was almost too good to be true!

As she had made her way towards the other students she saw Professor Bellaire, who was apparently enjoying some coconut wate. Violet smiled at the Charms Professor and said in her usual polite fashion,"Good morning Professor..I do hope you enjoyed your summer.."

Violet then couldn't help but admire the beautiful scenery around her once more. It was just too breathtaking not take in. She began to wonder what being a beach could have to do with Charms, not that minded at all, she just found it curious as to how they were "technically" at the beach of all places. Well at least you could say, that there was never a dull moment in Charms class!

Sophie was still looking at everything in awe. It was all so amazing... Here to learn... ABSOLUTELY!! Sophie wanted to learn and make those sort of things for SURE!! Right now, please?? Pleeeease???

She was even too excited to mind Elliot, Hannah and... HUH?? Lotus!! Okay, so she did notice her being all friendly to the evil eagle and didn't like it one bit. Sophie frowned and shook her head as she watched the small Hufflepuff - sigh. They always had the haters in their own house... - got mad at a little Ravenclaw boy. It might have been better off if Lotus was sorted into Slytherin, like she wanted to.

Or Ravenclaw, so she could pair up with evil Elliot. Hm... no, that'd be bad.

Oh well, they were in a class now, Sophie shook the thoughts from her mind and looked around some more. Hah! Theodore managing to make Sophie chuckle, as usual. Her bestie was thinking exactly the same thing!

But weird... professor Bellaire was not acting like her usual self... hm...

Oh?? Theodore was shushing Elliot! HAHAHA! Go Theo!! Sophie gave him a thumbs up!, but wasn't sure if he could see it. Well, who cares. That was awesome and totally made Sophie's day.

She shot her friend a smile. "Enjoy the warmness while you can." Because winter would be here before you knew it and Hannah hated the cold!!!

Elliot adored it. And all the blue-ness to winter made her eyes stand out more.

WHOOOOO was this?

A why was she criticizing the gold stars? Theo frowned hard at her, even pointing his finger in her direction. "Shh, you." That was simple enough.

ZOMG, he could be Professor Bellaire's assistant! WOOH.

Elliot's eyes zipped around...and landed, dangerously, on this little Slytherin kid. Merlin. Elliot frowned at him. "Don't shush me, kid." She snapped. Oh, he was the reciever of the gold star, was he? How fabulous. Elliot was super excited for him.

Not.

She was not in the mood. Must be the sand.

Merlin, and of course Elliot saw that, Soaps! She smirked a little at her, waving sarcastically...Elliot wanted to tell her off...but not in class. Her prey was safe...for now...

Turning to Hannah again, Elliot scowled. "honestly..Soapy.." she whispered, so that the puff wouldn't here.

Plotting needed to happen. NOW.

Sierra just sat there taking in all the happenings from afar. Theo had some odd gold star hovering around him. She gave an inward shrug. A gold star. hee hee At least he'd gotten the points to go along with it. Otherwise, it was...just a...gold star.

...right?

She turned her gaze toward the professor, wondering when things might get underway. Were they just going to sit here all class period and talk and watch hovering gold stars? If so...COOL. Sierra could deal with a break of sorts.

Now...would somebody go and get her a glass of coconut water, too?

TeafortheSoul 09-19-2012 09:33 PM

West was getting bored of waiting. Not his fault, really. He'd learned one thing from Charms class and that was that Bellaire never actually helped him with anything in particular, even when he was obviously having trouble or asked for help. So of course he didn't have high hopes.

Maybe he could teach himself some stuff. West tugged his textbook out of his bag, and seemingly unbothered by the magical weather and heat, started nosing through it.

Edge 09-19-2012 09:43 PM

Emil wandered into the Charms classroom and was REALLY surprised to see everyone sitting on the sandy floor.

My oh my. I'm not in Kansas anymore, Toto ... he said to no one in particular. He took off his shoes and socks, nodded to Professor Bellaire and gave her a curt Hello professor. Can't wait for today's lesson... and went all the way to the back, propping himself against the wall, but to him it looked like coconut trees.

He wanted to take out a parchment and a quill, but figured it would be messy to do so in this setting, so he just let his bag sling behind him, and held his wand tightly in anticipation of the start of the class.

Thank you.

Aidan's eyes drifted from the girl to his shoe and back a couple times. "Okay." Clearly, she needed to pay more attention to flying shoes and get out of the way. And since it almost hit her, but didn't really, he didn't see the point in her pointing this out.

He also didn't know what he was supposed to be watching. "Watch what?" he asked again.

Sierraaaaa *whistle*

So, maybe they were just going to sit there all day and soak up the sun. Which Milton was totally okay with. He was tired from quidditch tryouts and all his homework and studying. Being a good student was SUCH tedious work. Milton deserved a break like this.

And why did that kid get a gold star? Milton kind of wanted one, but he was too lazy to suck up to the professor.

Turning his attention away from the big mass of people by the professor, Milton looked around at the others... and found Sierra Griengoth.

"Well, look what the cat dragged in... A ladybug," he said with a smirk, recalling what that strange man in the Prefect's compartment had called her. Bahahah.

Got home from work and passed out but we're starting

ooc: So I typed up responses for everyone but then the browser ate it so I'm just going to get started. Sorry guys I love your faces. Anyways class is starting stop the chit chatting.

Professor Bellaire returned the greeting and eyed her watch one last time. Yep it was time to start class. With a flick of her wand she shut the door with a loud slam. That would get their attention right? And also late bugs would be locked out and have to knock.

She banished her glass and cleared her throat. "Class is now in session. I'm sure I do not need to remind you all to ensure your uniform is immaculate." She paused giving whoever needed to fix themselves time to do so. "I'd like everyone to make use of the chairs provided, take out your quill and parchment as well as your text books." She waved her wand again and a giant cloud covered the sky. There, now there was no direct heat.

"Today we will be focusing on a variant of the Protego charm. Can anyone tell me what the Protego Charm does?"

Holmesian Feline 09-20-2012 02:42 AM

Having been looking around to take in their augmented surroundings, Gideon returned his attention to Professor Bellaire as she finally began the lesson. He nodded on her remark on tidiness, his own uniform already checked before he had entered the room. Right...might as well be semi-comfortable for now he mused himselfas he took one of the chairs to settle in for the moment. And at her first question of the class, the prefect raised his hand to answer.

"It cast a shield out from the castor's wand to protect him or her and block spells or other items from reaching them."

Expecto-Penguin 09-20-2012 02:43 AM

Annabelle saw the professor was starting the class. She took out her quills, parchment and text book from her bag. She was ready to take notes. Then she heard the question the professor asked. She wrote it down, What does the Protego charm do? Belle raised her hand and said,

"Well professor i think it is used to block most of the spells and even physical entities. But the spell will not protect you from curses but it can rebound to the other attacker i have heard when a spell is used."

West had his book out already so that was fine, and was sitting in a chair, so that was good too. He was even reasonably tidy for a twelve year old boy. In general he was ready and when class finally started? He was almost past ready. Gosh.

He put his hand up.

"Its a shield good for dueling. Shields you from stuff. You can focus it to like one small point or you can make it bigger." In theory? West didn't know how to do it. And he didn't have much faith in learning it today.

She was melting. MELLLLLLLLLLLTINGGGGGGG. Vivi pulled her cloak up over her head, which made her into a sweaty little dementor, but at least she wasn't going to turn into a sweaty little lobster. She could feel the burn coming, and with it peeling skin and freckles and aloe baths.

Good thing class had started, and they were focusing on a defensive spell. Hurray! Vivi's hand shot up, and her voice came from inside her cloak. "Professor, the Protego charm creates a focused shield spell that can repel most low-level hexes. There are stronger shields, but it's a really easy and effective defensive spell for most uses."

Violet knew that class had begun as soon as she had heard the door to the class slam behind her. She then looked over at Professor just as she had moved a cloud above everyone's heads so they wouldn't be directly, under the sun's heat, although it wouldn't have bothered her that much if they had been able to remain under the sun. But class had begun and Violet's attention was fully on Professor Bellaire, already prepared with her quill and parchment, along with her text books.

Then the Professor had asked if they knew what the Protego Charm does and Violet's arm instantly shot up. She then said smiling,"The Protego Charm prevents the attacker from penetrating their opponent, making their curse, jinx, or hex rebound." Then she had added on,[B]"It can also cause a shield to form from the caster's wand when it is cast.."

Protego... Protego...

"pro-TAY-go..." Sutton said quietly to herself as she ensured her uniform was in order and set about taking notes. She stared at the word for a moment, then looked around, trying to figure out why it looked familiar. After blinking a few times, she looked back down at her parchment and absentmindedly scribbled the word out. She spelled it wrong. Without much thought, she tried again and wrote, "Protejo."

Because in Spanish, if the infinitive form of the verb ends in -ger, then you have to change the g to a j when conjugated in the present "yo" form.

Err... what?

Blink.Blink.Blink.

This wasn't Spanish. This was Charms.

Scribbling it out again, she re-wrote it, "Protego."

Raising her hand with a curious look on her her face, she said, "Professor, sorry... I'm kind of new to this, but... I think... I mean... Does the spell Protego have something to do with protecting because it is REALLY similar to the Spanish verb 'proteger'... which... means to protect..." she finished quietly, putting her hand down slowly and waiting for an answer, hoping she didn't look like an idiot.

OOC: Proteger - [Pronounced like pro-tay-HAIR]

Emmanuelle had dozed off slightly with the warmth of the sun and the sand and all that, so when the professor slammed the door shut she jumped. "Huh, what? What happened?" Oh yeah, she was in Charms class. And judging by the fact that the door had been slammed shut, class was starting. Em reluctantly pulled herself up off the sand, Scorgifyed her uniform (making sure everything was perfectly straight while she was at it), and sat down in the nearest chair. Pulling her supplies and textbook out of her bag, she frowned slightly when the sun was covered by a cloud. After all, what was wrong with a little bit of UV?

Putting her hand in the air she answered, [B]"It's the shield charm. It protects the caster during a duel."[/I] She had studied this soo long ago. Why was Hogwarts just now covering it?

Addie carefully took out her quill, parchment, and textbook balancing the parchment upon her textbook which was upon her lap. Quickly dipping her quill in ink she wrote her name at the top of the parchment. Addie listened carefully to what the teacher had to ask of her and wrote at the top of her parchment protego before attempting to define it herself.

Raising her hand she smiled and began to recite what she remembered. "Protego is the shield charm, it can come in different varieties, but it's main purpose is to protect us from harm I know there is plain old protego and protego horribilis and protego totalum." Addie said as she waited for the teacher's definition.

Kurumi licked her lips when she saw the coconut water. Could they have some? Or...was the woman just going to drink it herself and not let anyone else have any? It was sort of...humid in here, wasn't it? Tropical beach and all that...

Before she could ask, class had officially begun and the seventh year went to grab a chair and got her things out before her hand went up. "Protego is sort of a wizards bread and butter of defensive spells in that it is a charm that creates a shield around you to deflect hexes. There are variations of the charm that can protect against stronger hexes and offensive spells as well as the overall area shielded."

Kurumi swallowed again. So...about that coconut water...

She jumped a little in her chair when she heard Professor Bellaire slam the door shut. So much for the relaxing day at the beach feeling, she joked to herself. Uniforms, immaculate? Well aside from the few granules of sand that had latched on, she was fit as a fiddle. The cloud provided a great shady haven for the students. Now I won’t have to worry about getting sunburnt out here, she thought. Is “out here” even right though? I mean, we’re inside, she’s just charmed it to look like the beach. So…in here. Yeah.

Following her professor’s instructions, she placed her book in her lap, then spread a piece of parchment over it. She hoped her ink wouldn’t bleed through onto her book, but she was sure the professor had already considered they may need a writing surface so she didn’t mention it. She held her long plumed quill in her left hand, poised to record any and every note about charms. She wanted to learn all of it and she doubted she could ever learn it too soon.

Oh, she knew the Protego charm! Or at least she thought she did. Her mom had taught it to her once when her little sister was sick. She’d been sneezing all the time and Eliza didn’t much like being sprayed with germs so she had practiced shielding the sickly outbursts. She raised her hand and answered, “The Protego charm blocks things from reaching you, or touching you.” She paused for any immediate signs of disapproval, then went on. “I don’t think it can block really strong things though. Or maybe it can, but the caster just has to practice a lot first.” Not her best answer, but she thought it was ok for her first lesson in charms. She hoped the professor would correct her if she was wrong. The embarrassment was something she was willing to endure, if it meant she’d no longer be spouting misinformation.

Elliot quickly pulled out her stuff...notebook, quill, textbook...

Protego? Sigh. Elliot supposed she should learn it, though, however basic it seemed. It wasn't as easy as it looked, though, for Elliot didn't exactly know how to produce one.

And everyone already said everything there could possibly be to know about the shield spell. So Elliot kept her mouth shut and her quill busy, choosing to absorb rather than speak. Kind of like a sponge.

A really goodlooking, pretty sponge.
