It was back to the greenhouses for another lesson on herbs, only, Professor Bentley wasn't waiting for them inside the doorway like she usually did. Instead, there were work stations set up with equipment laid out neatly. Stools had been arranged in a group on the main floor nearest the raised flowerbeds of carefully arranged herbs.
The portable blackboard instructs:

OOC: The lesson has officially begun. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. The further down the list of instructions she went the more sick to her stomach she was. She was not good with nasty smells and pus...Really? who was good with that? She didn't care if she had gloves on or not. It was gross...just gross...anyway that you looked at it. Sigh. She was going to have to do whether she liked it or not.
Three or four flies? Well if she got to pick it was so going to be three. 1 less fly that she had to deal with. She grabbed three of the whole dried lacewing flies and added that to the mix. Now was time for the pus. Gulp. She could do this. She totally could. She added plop of bubotuber pus as fst as she could thinking that would make it less painful. It didn't by the way. Hopefully the next set of instructions wouldn't be so gross.
SPOILER!!: Parchment
1) Once your pot of water has begun to boil, start by adding the chrysanthemum and nettle tea leaves. Stir occasionally.
2) As the colour of the water turns amber, add two generous pinches of cayenne pepper, a generous drizzle of neem oil and a splash of apple cider vinegar. Stir occasionally.
3) As the colour darkens, take a handful of fluxweed and knotgrass, then stir.
4) Take a whole garlic bulb, slice it in half (diffindo) then drop it into the solution.
5) Add 3-4 whole dreid lacewing flies and a small (yes, thick) drizzle/plop of bubotuber pus.
6) Simmer, stir and leave to cool for about half an hour (in which time you clean up your work space and return any unused items to the stores cupboard.)
7) Once your Minsecticide has cooled, strain it into a spray bottle.
Two things, Nessie recognised well. She eyed her ingredients and grabbed a whole hand full of the fluxweed she had. She felt it in her hands for a short moment and then dropped it into her now dark, amber water. She did the exact same with the knotgrass.
Stir. Paaause. Stiir. Paaause. Stiir.
This stiring was beginning to tire Nessie, but she continued in hope that it would all be done soon. It didn't seem like she had lots to go anyways, and the quicker she finished off the better. Which was why she wanted to go onto the next step, but before she could, she noticed the commotion going on in the classroom.
Laura was shouting at the Professor? O_O
Wow. Just wow. At least it wasn't Lafay she was talking to like that, things would have been a million times worse.

Laura listened to the Professor go on and on about asking if anyone had anything missing and well it wasn't her fault Professor Bentley seemed to want to rush through her lessons, maybe she was missing her pets and that is why she was rushing though the lesson so she could visit them again.
Laura looked at her list well that was good she didn't even have a pot of water so she couldn't start to make it boil the water without water, that was simple right, hadn't she already told the Professor that once and now they were expecting her to boil an empty pot. "I think so?" Laura looked at Kurumi. "Want to check?" Laura asked showing Kurumi the empty pot. "Is this right?" Laura would love for her to say it is.

Losing her 'cool' was a habit of hers? Well that just wouldn't do. "Perhaps you ought to consider anger management strategies... or relaxation techniques..." like mentally chanting calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean a million times...
320? ... Was this girl serious?
"That was a rhetorical question..." and even if it required a response, the girl would be dead wrong.
Now out of her sight. Even without the yelling the girl seemed to be oozing disrespect. Perhaps a word with Fina WAS required after all.

She looked around her searching for a bottle. And instead of looking for it she found herself watching other students. Wow, some people worked with skill and passion. Pffft. Why waste those. She shook her head not being able to understand how people actually liked doing this. Wait, why was she watching people and wondering about stuff? Oh she was looking for a bottle.
And she did find a spray bottle on one of the tables. Making sure it wasn't anyone's Cassia claimed it to herself. And skipped to her pot. Nope she wasn't worried that it was someone's else and she stole it. What made you think that?
Looking from the pot to the bottle, Cassia finally decided the best technique to pour the solution into the bottle. She will tilt the pot obviously. Was there any other ways? Fixing the bottle with one hand after having opened the cap ,Cassia tilted the pot making sure that most of the liquid got IN the bottle.
Sticking her tongue out in concentration. Cassia managed to do that with only a few drops of the liquid wasted. Which she didn't care about of course. She closed the cap and took a deep breath that now this was OVER.And she was still alive. No plants tried to eat her.
She straightened and grinned smugly because she was so proud of her awesome self. Cassia searched for Professor Bentley, "I'm done Professor!" She announced triumphantly. Wanna taste it? Oh wait this wasn't for drinking. Well, any plant wanna taste it? Not now?
Cassia gathered her belongings and slid her bag over her shoulder. She was a member of the task force meaning she needed to keep this bottle. Standing by the exit she looked around at the other students. She wasn't leaving alone, she would for someone to go with.

Oh, that was a relief. "Thank you, Professor Bently," Kurumi said as her cheeks flushed slightly at the compliment hidden in the woman's words. Feeling rather confident with the spell, the seventh year rolled up her sleeves and then performed the charm very carefully on her pot, checking the temperature every few seconds with her hands until the pot felt about the same temperature as her hand. That should do it!
Picking up her strainer, Kurumi began to pour some of the minsecticide into her spray bottle when Laura spoke up.

"Just a second," Kurumi smiled as she poured the rest of her solution through the strainer and into the spray bottle. Once she was done and had cleaned the strainer and pot again with magic, the Gryffindor moved closer to Laura and and blinked in confusion. "Laura...what happened to the water I conjured?!" Honestly, how did Laura always manage to find herself in these situations? She HAD to be doing it on purpose.
Wand out again, Kurumi cast a silent Aguamenti and fill the pot half way. "There, now you better get to work. I'll stay behind until you are done, okay?" Since Kurumi had offered to help her and all. She would be a horrible person if she just left the Hufflepuff now.
Seren smiled to herself. The Gryffindor's modesty never ceased to amaze her... it would be sad to see her go. Very sad...
But then, there was the next generation of Lions to guide.

Ethan stirred his solution once again, then looked up at the board for the next step. One garlic bulb.. well, at least that was not a guesstimate. The boy picked up a whole garlic bulb from his supplies and sliced it in half with a wave of his wand.
Hmm.. Ethan looked at the instructions again. Were you supposed to drop the entire bulb sliced in half in (as in two halves).. or just one half? He didn't think that was clear, so he dropped in both halves and made note of that in his journal.

So Ella was watching people finish up and it freaked her out, as she still had several more steps to complete. She bailed on the whole fantasy cooking show daydream she had going on, deciding to really get down to business. It was totally focus time.
Taking the whole garlic bulb, Ella placed it down in front of her and then picked up her wand. She'd used this incantation before so the third year was pretty confident she could complete the task without chopping off a finger or something in the process. That would have been awkward...and bloody. >.<
"Diffindo!" She said seriously, watching with a small smile as the onion split in two. Yes. She'd done it! Grin. Picking up the halves then, she dropped them into the solution and watched as they mixed in with the other ingredients. Right. Another step to cross off the list. Cool.

Well would you look at that. She was nearly done with the lesson, and she was done with the nappy parts of it. She had to let it simmer for half an hour... the best step so far in her opinion. She stirred it again. Man her arms were really starting to get sore from all the stirring. Maybe she needed to work out? Ha! Who was she kidding? She didn't need to do that. She naturally looked good.
When she was finished stirring she cleaned up her area. Hopefully by the time she had completed the cleaning up her solution would be done so she could get out of here. She put up the left over ingredients and had her station spotless. She stared at her solution willing it to speed up the process!

Cora nodded in response to the professor. Okay, it doesn't matter. Hmph. Because it DID matter, but Cora would just do what she thought. She added One handful of each fluxweed and knotgrass, which she noted was about one cup, and continued to the next step, noticing that her determination for perfection was causing her to be further behind.

Cora carefully sliced the garlic bulb EXACTLY in half, and dropped each half into the pot, carefully. Hmmm that looked right.

GULP. Dried lacewing flies? WHOLE? Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. Ella screwed up her face, eyeing the poor dried creatures. Never had a chance, those lacewing flies. Meep.
With a heavy heart, the third year gingerly picked them up one at a time, dropping four lacewing flies into the mixture. She bit her lip when she was done. Feeling quite bad about the whole ordeal. Leave it to Ella Bishop to feel bad about already dried up dead flies.
The bubotuber pus was just as bad, and gross. Ick. Just the word pus had Ella disgusted. She was determined to finish though, so she scooped up a small amount of the stuff and plopped it into the mix. EEP! And it actually did plop. LIKE IT MADE THAT SOUND. Yuck. Not cool.

Minerva looked at her pot and stirred it again. Pointing her wand she cleaned the spoon before placing it next to the pot. Then she took the waiting time and looked around. Some looked like they were finished and leaving and others seemed to be a few steps behind her. Then her eyes fell again to a certain student. He seemed really good at this subject, she had to remember that if they ever had to do partner stuff again. She could help in many places but she always felt like all thumbs, and none of them green in here.
Looking back at her work station Minerva cleaned up her left over ingredients and took them to the storage cupboard. Placing them back as neatly as she could. Double checking to make sure everything was where it was suppose to be Minerva went back to her work station to make sure it was clean. Everything seemed to be in order. Looking at her watch she noticed it was a half hour from when she checked last.

Ella eyed her instructions, biting her lip when she read she'd need to let the mixture simmer for a half hour. A HALF HOUR? Meep. That was quite a long time and class would surely be ending soon. Meh. Meh. Meh. She was going to try and finish in time, though. Do the best she could and all that. Hufflepuffs weren't quitters. No siree.
Stirring her mixture around several times, the third year checked that it was still heating and began to clean up her work area. She replaced the left over ingredients to their correct locations, frowning once again when she handled the lacewing flies. "It really must stink to be dried out like that...oh, and dead. Sorry little dudes." But if it was any consolation, they were an important part of this whole assignment. That was kind of cool. Shrug.
After she'd finished returning the leftovers, Ella picked up her wand and pointed it at her work space. She'd made quite a mess and she definitely wasn't okay leaving the space that way. "Scourgify." Right. That was MUCH better.
...
When a half hour was up, Ella checked her mix, feeling the pot again with both hands. It was certainly cool which was brilliant, cause that meant she was almost done! BEAM.

Well her desk was all clean and her ingredients had all been put away. Now all that was left to do was to stare at her solution and wait for it to cool down. This had been the longest thirty minutes of her life. Stare, stare, stare.
Finally her Minsecticide had cooled down. All she had to do now was to strain it in a spray bottle. She grabbed the only item that she still had left...her bottle. She took the solution and strained it in the bottle. There she had finally done it. She noticed that the professor was releasing the other students that were done. Should she wait until she released her personally? She thought that she probably should just in case.

No stirring.. ? The instructions did not say to at this step so Ethan didn't. But he frowned at the next part of the instructions.. 3-4 whole dried lacewing flies. Well which was it.. 3 or 4? The impreciseness of it all frustrated the boy somewhat, but it was a good way to experiment and see what different amounts would do. As long as he took precise notes..
Deciding on four, Ethan picked up that many dried flies from his station and added them in. Staring for a moment at the rest of that step on the board, he shook his head slightly. What was a small drizzle slash plop? He decided that could be an 1/8 of a cup and found that size of a measuring cup. Measuring out the very thick bubotuber pus, he emptied the cup into the pot, tapping it on the side to get it all to slide in. Once those ingredients were in, the boy made several notes in his journal.

Now that Ella's minsecticide was quite cool, she double checked her instructions and smiled to herself. Last step! Thank Merlin. All she had to do now was strain the mixture into the bottle without spilling it everywhere. Totally doable.
Reaching for the bottle, Ella pulled it towards her and then turned her attention to the minsecticide. She picked the pot up very carefully, not wanting any accidents to happen after all that hard work. She then poured the mixture into the bottle very carefully. When she was finished, she placed the pot back down on the table and picked up her wand, cleaning that too. BEAM. She was finished.
Sitting up a little straighter, the third year placed her notes in her bag and raised her hand. "All finished over here, Professor."
Things were moving nicely for Cora now. At this rate, she'd be done in no time.
But her heart almost stopped with the next step.
SPOILER!!: Step 5
5) Add 3-4 whole dreid lacewing flies and a small (yes, thick) drizzle/plop of bubotuber pus.
DRIED FLIES?!!! Cora was NOT grossed out. She was upset. She hated the idea of drying living things. It was enough to dry plants and things. Animals, even insects, were different. But Cora would NOT be one of those divas not doing what she was supposed to.
Taking a deep breath, Cora closed her eyes, grabbed three flies, and dropped them in. POOR FLIES. Her hands shook a bit, but she did it. Yep. After a glance at Ethan, she continued.
The captain took her quil once more and crossed out the third step. She was moving a little slowly, but that was only because she knew it was more possible making mistakes when rushing. It was better to do things at a reasonable pace.
Eww! Eww! and Eww! Garlic? How gross!
Trying not to smell any of the odour as she worked, Ness aimed her wand at the small piece of garlic in front of her. "Diffindo." She said quietly and watched the vegtable split into half. This spell was something so easy she could do it in her sleep by now.
With her nose still blocked, Ness plonked the stinky garlic into her pot. She then unblocked her nose to test if it was safe to smell. Oh! Gosh! It smelled worse than before. Almost immediately, Ness reblocked her nose and decided to stay like that for the rest of the lesson.
"This stuff smells." She mumbled quietly and then crossed off step number four.

Oh. Well, Cora now had to wait a bit. After glancing at her pot, reassuring that all was well, she happily cleaned up her station, returning the...gulp...fly and her unused knotgrass and fluxweed to the cupboard. That didn't take as long as she had hoped, so she glanced around the room a bit, trying to kill time.
Cora quickly added some water to her pot with Aguamenti. No big deal. With a big smile, she saw Eliza come up to her.
"Hi Eliza! Sure, I can help you." Cora wasn't used to being ABLE to help, but definitely liked to help others, especially her friends, and her smile widened at being able to help. "So you say it like this. Chaw-den-sis." Cora cheerfully and carefully spoke. She wanted to make sure Eliza got it. Miming the wand gesture, Cora explained. "And you add a wand movement tracing the inside of the pot in a smooth circle." Cora demonstrated, brushing her brown curls out of her face. "Like this." Cora didn't think she needed to show the Aguamenti part but she would help if asked.
She glanced across the room at Ethan, and saw he didn't look like he was in the greatest mood. Frowning, Cora stayed to watch if Eliza could get this right. She was sure she could, but just in case.
Ethan wasn't too far away, so Cora waited for eye contact before speaking, and said, "Hey Ethan! Why so blue?" She wondered if he just wanted to be alone or something, but she hoped she could help cheer him up.
Eliza watched as Cora demonstrated the proper way to cast the charm. "Thanks a lot!" She smiled and practiced the word aloud. "Chaw..den..sis... She practiced tracing in a circular motion, around her pot. Okay, let there be warmth, she thought. This time she cast the charm on her pot with a confident tracing motion. "Chaudensis!"
She looked at her pot, then back to Cora. "Did it work?" She held her hand over the pot to see if it felt any different. Her hands were so cold already from the wintery air, it was hard to tell if there'd been a change. She held her hand out a few more seconds and finally felt that, yes, the pot was getting warmer. "Oo it did! Thanks for the help, Cora." She smiled again and cast "Aguamenti." Once her pot was half full, she stopped the flow by saying, "Finite." She didn't think anyone would mind if she stayed near Cora during the lesson, so she did not return to her original stool.
She watched Cora's concerned eyes look to Ethan across the room. "Do you think he's okay?" she whispered. She hoped so. He seemed like a nice person so she would hate for him to be upset by something. She probably couldn't help, but he'd been friendly to her, so if there was a way - she'd try to find it.

This time, with the aid of the blackboard, Seren discussed the steps to producing the minsecticide.
"The first thing you need to note, is that this is not potions. You are not required to measure your ingredients meticulously, because at the end of the day, all of the substances are good and wasting time measuring just isn't worth it." Especially not when this was something which needed to be repeated every so often.
"Essentially, what you will be making, is a solution containing a number of ingredients which repel pests both magical and mundane..."
The instructions finished writing themselves up on the board in cursive writing.

7) Once your Minsecticide has cooled, strain it into a spray bottle.
"It's quite straight forward. Everything goes into the pot and then once it cools we'll strain it and use it."
And so... they should start now.
"If you have any questions, please raise your hand, otherwise, you may start."

She watched her water as the bubbles starting popping up faster and faster. The steam rolled off the water and warmed her face, even down to the tip of her little nose. She copied down the instructions and grabbed the ingredients for step one. "Chysanthemum and nettle leaves. Check and check," she said aloud as she dropped them into the pot. She stirred it a few times and watched, waiting for a color change.
Almost done.. the boy noted as he looked at the instructions for the umpteenth time. All that was left was to stir.. and wait. Ethan stirred his mixture for the last time and left the pot on the table while he started putting away the supplies and cleaning up his station.
Well, that took all of ten minutes, he noted as he finished and came back to the pot. Twenty left.. Ethan made a few more notes in his journal and his eyes fell around the room, lingering on a few faces a bit longer than others. He pulled up a stool and sat while he waited for the mixture to cool, now focusing on the plants around the greenhouse. He realized he felt much calmer now than when he first stepped into class.. as frustrating as the inaccurate measuring was, being around plants was relaxing. A few more minutes..

After Belle's pot was done cooling and simmering she looked into her notebook for the last set of directions.
SPOILER!!: Belle's Notebook
7) Once your Minsecticide has cooled, strain it into a spray bottle.
Ahh yes, now Belle was done with the task. She used the strainer the professor provided them and strained all the contents. Then after she strained it, she put in into a spray bottle. She put the contents in very carefully and was done!
Belle went to the professor and handed her the bottle. She went back to her workspace and cleaned up the last remanning messes.
Now cringing, Renesmee eyed step number five. Could she just skip this step? Because really touching flies and pus was just not something she wanted to do. She had to still do it though, didn't she?
Sigh. Well here went nothing.
Still not using her nose to breathe, Ness took three whole dried lacewing flies and then trying not to look at them too much, she added them to her cauldron, that was still boiling hot. Half of it was done at least.
Now for the worse part. The puss. Eww. Eww. She could do this though, she would not chicken out no mattter how gross. One drizzle. That's all she added of the puss and then began to feel nauseous, which was why she put the puss away immediately.
She could check step five now, yes?

Minerva looked at her pot, the minsecticide seemed to be cooled. She touched the pot to make sure. Quick touches at first to test it then put her hand on it. Yuup it was cooled. Double checking her notes just to make sure she got everything in that was needed Minerva smiled. One last step:

7) Once your Minsecticide has cooled, strain it into a spray bottle.
Taking the pot she strained the minsecticide into a spray bottle. Once it was all in she turned to her pot and pointed her wand and cleaned the pot. Taking the pot and putting it away she turned to her workstation and made sure it was completely clean, not wanting to leave anything left out or spilled. When she decided it was cleaned to her standards she took the spray bottle and made sure it was completely closed then stuck it in her bag.
Putting her bag over her shoulder she headed to the front of the green house. "Thanks for an interesting lesson professor. Have a great rest of the day." she smiled at the professor then turned to leave. Looking over at Ethan she have an awkward, shy smile and mouthed hi, then left to head back to the castle.
As the pot started to cool down, Renesmee let her minsecticide simmer. It looked alright in her opinion, even if it smelled outrageous. It would hopefully do what it was supposed to, because then making it for nothing would be silly.
Stiiiiir.
That was the last one she did, and then she began to clean up all the left over ingredients and equipment. She started off with returning un used ingredients. It took her only one trip to the store room to do so. She got back to her desk and cast a cleaning spell cleaning her working space. Her strainer, spray bottle and pot were still on the table though, she decided to clear them only once she was completely done.
For now she just waited...and waited...and waited till minsecticide cooled down fully.

Not even thinking about it...Dylan moved over to the ingredients, picking out the knotgrass and fluxweed with ease. Scooping two handfuls, one of the knotgrass and one of the fluxweed, he added them to his "Potion". He watched silently as they both sank down into the boiling water...
And then he was stirring again...

Still blocking her nose, Ness leaned over to peek at her cauldron to see if it was ready to be strained, it seemed like it was. Good then. The red head took the strainer and began straining out her pot's contenents into the bottle.
Drip. Drip.
She was on the last drop, and then she was done. Finally. This gross work was all over with. "Scourgify" said Ness cleaning now the pot, strainer and any mess she had created within her last step. All her surroundings were clean now, and so she finally felt safe to breathe with her nose rather than her mouth.
The red head put her pot and strainer away, then decided she was officially done.

Ethan figured he had waited long enough.. the mixture seemed cooled off enough to him. He got up from his stool to retrieve a strainer and a spray bottle, and as he did, he caught a glimpse of Minerva as she gave him a smile before leaving class. The boy returned a tentative smile to her retreating figure and watched for a moment as she walked away.
Pushing any lingering thoughts out of his mind, Ethan turned back to his finished minsecticide. Using the strainer, he poured the liquid into the bottle and screwed on the nozzle. He took a moment to finish cleaning up his work area and put the last of the equipment away. As he was part of the task force, the boy held onto the bottle and left the greenhouse as class was dismissed.
