Post 5 Jory checked that the rocket was securely attached to it's launch one last time. He was so excited to see it go up in the air that he temporarily forgot about the flapping part of the activity. He stood in font of the launcher and aimed his wand above the bottle. "Explaeris!'' he exclaimed after he traced the circle. It was now he remembered the flapping but just stretched out his hands and began to flap them as the Professor had done. Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap. The badger watched as the rocket began to fill with air and he continued flapping. And then suddenly, the rocket exploded up into the air at the same time as a few others did around him. "Look at it go!'' he said as he watched his rocket go higher and higher. |
Post #6 - And we have lift off It actually startled Logan a little when his rocket suddenly zoomed off of the launcher and into the sky. It moved through the sky so fast, it was hard to believe that it was just a bottle and not an actual rocket. Okay, maybe he was exaggerating a little with that, but still. It was very nice to imagine that he had made the thing. Rockets were so cool. If only Mason was here to see this. Or Ness was actually paying attention to him. :/ |

Hannah glared at her friend! Soapy? Of course! Ugh!!! Hannah was not liking this at all. Still a bet was a bet, and Hannah would never back out of a bet. "Of all people...Soapy?" Why? Truth was that she knew why. Oh well there was nothing that she was going to be able to do now. "That will go over well." Sarcastic! She knew that it wouldn't go over well at all. She was going to get Elliot back! She was sure of that much. |

Well, at least now she knew how to fix it if it happened again. Sutton took a steadying breath as she prepared herself for the worst. Tracing a circle over her bottle, she said, "Explaeris!" And then began flapping her Her eyes widened as she took note of the sound of the air being pushed into the bottle. Now excited and smiling, her arm flaps became bigger and faster. Flapping, flapping, flapping, flapping... Sutton's shoulders began to ache slightly, but she kept flapping without stopping or slowing down as the pressure on her chest felt like it increased with the pressure inside the bottle. Unconsciously, she had stopped breathing as she literally focused all of her body's efforts into this rocket launching. She was beginning to panic that she had missed something. Why hadn't her rocket launched yet? And then, with a loud POP, her rocket managed to free itself of the launching device. As it climbed through the air, the water came bursting out of it, splashing onto Sutton's uniform, but she couldn't care less as she stood, laughing, watching her rocket be propelled into the sky. |
Post 5 SPOILER!!: Kurrrruuummiii Selina was not sure when it had become night time. She was almost certain that a few moments ago the sun was out, but if that was true why was she seeing stars? Seriously, she must have missed something. And also, why did her nose hurt so bad and why was her vision a little blurry? Surely, everything had just sort of gone topsy turvy. That was when she remembered. She remembered a rocket coming straight at her face and her feet being lifted off of the ground ever so slightly. The redhead remembered her friend warning her not to put her head over the rocket. She remembered not listening. And now her back was flat on the floor and stars engulfed her vision. If there was anyone standing above her, she could not see them. All she could see were blurred figures and the twinkling stars above her eyes. After a few moments the stars disappeared and the pain in her nose became very acute. She let out a groan and reached her hand up to her nose. When she touched the sensitive nose a sharp pain flew through her face and she pulled her hand away sharply. The movement was so sharp that it sort of resembled a flap. Just then, Selina's own rocket, launched into the sky. Well, THAT was ironic. Trying to sit up a little, Selina softly pressed her fingertips to her nose. When she pulled her hands away a sticky, red substance was on her fingers. REALLY?!?! NOT AGAIN! Selina turned her head to Kurumi and said in an aggravated tone, "Kurumi... AGAIN?" Ow. |
Post 5 As her rocket reached the height of its, flight, the parachute deployed. Weighted by Sutton's engineered weighted, the plastic bag opened almost immediately lifting the parachute up into the air. The wind caught the bag and it began to be carried away. Sutton chased after it beaming as it flew across the courtyard. Though it couldn't have been for more than a couple minutes, to Sutton it was almost like all that existed were her and her rocket. It was like she was back home again, launching off bottle rockets in the backyard and chasing them down as she timed their flight. She couldn't help but laugh a little in this small moment of happiness. SMACK! Sutton ran into the wall around the courtyard as her parachute sailed over top of it. Stumbling backwards, she fell on her bottom in the dirt. Looking around to see if anyone saw her, she quickly scrambled back up to her feet, gazing at the top of the high wall, wondering if she should go retrieve her parachute or just leave it... |

Aspen wasn't surprised that the Slytherin didn't know her. She'd been at Hogwarts for years, and people just... didn't pay attention. Besides - WHO she was didn't exactly affect whether or not he was willing to puke for experimental purposes. "Aspen," she answered with a shrug. "You're not going to do it, are you?" How MASSIVELY disappointing. She didn't sigh at him, but the Ravenclaw was definitely DEFINITELY definitely longing for the Legilimency skills she still lacked. "Name a price and I'll see if I can get it." |
class dismissed darlings Marion continued to wiggle and clank her way around the courtyard as rocket after rocket was launched into the air. It was siiiiiiiiiiiimply marvelous how beautiful each of the student's rockets looked going up up UP into the air. Hopefully they were all remembering how Newton's laws were influencing all this. That was the entire point of their classroom discussion after all. Foundation for spaceflight and what made the field of astronomy expand and fall more into human hands. Oooooooooooooooh EXCITING! She was just about to dismiss the lesson when she heard the most hooooooooorrible noise coming from the dear who was missing her bat. Oh...Merlin...that was not good. "Miss Skylaaaaar!" she exclaimed as she wiggled and waddle her way GRACEFULLY towards the girl. "Oh goodness greacious hEAvens me!" And here Marion thought it went without saying that one should not put their face over one of these bottle rockets. "Oh, hold on a second dear. I'll give your nose a quick fix and then it will be off to the Healer with you." "Alright class, that is all for today's lesson. You may take your bottle rockets with you if you wish, but please leave the launchers where they are. No homework for this lesson. You all have done quiiiiiiiiiiite enough today. I dooooooooo hope to see you back for my next lesson. Remember, I do not keep an office here at Hogwarts, but you can always owl me to set up a tea time if you wish to discuss anything." With a sparkle in her eye and one last wiggle of her hips, she turned back to the pair of Gryffindors. "Miss Skylar, please stand still..." she instructed as she cast a quick Episkey on the girl's nose. "Now, Miss Hollingberry, would you be so kind as to escort Miss Skylar to the hospital wing?" OOC: CLASS DISMISSED! Thank you all for coming and participating! You may RP your characters gathering their things and leaving, as well as any last minute questions they may have for Professor Burbage. This thread will officially close later in approximately 6 hours. |
Taylor smiled and gathered her things, "Thank you for the lesson, Professor." |
So that was it...? The class was over and her rocket was gone--helloooo... Her rocket had fallen to the ground! Remarkable! She grinned in satisfaction, grabbing the rocket and then her bag. Now the class was over and she needed to head to the next one...but...what was her next class....? O___O SIGH. This was why she should have tried memorizing her schedule! Meh, she'd just walk until she found a room that everyone seemed to be piling into. That could work. Turning to the Professor she gave her a wide smile. "Great class Professor! Can't wait for the next one!" GRIN. Really though, she just wanted to launch more rockets and drink more soda... |
Nigel was having fun seeing his rocket using his awesome parachute. When he hears the teacher say that class was finally over. So Nigel walks over to wear his rocket landed, picked it up, and packed up his things. He walked over to the Professor and said. "Awesome Class Professor. Captain Kirk would approve!" Nigel wondered if there was some orange soda left because he did not want to go to the kitchens to get more. |
Cassia was sitting watching rockets shooting up in the air beautifully it made her smile but it also made her feel a bit sad for her rocket but at least it left the launcher. When Professor Burbage announced the end of the lesson, Cassia rose up to her feet with her rocket in her hand. Did the woman just say that there was no homework! Cassia grinned at that. You're such a sweet woman, she thought. Slinging her bag over her shoulder she headed to leave passing by Professor Burbage, "Thank you Professor it was a very interesting lesson." Cassia said meaning it. You don't get to make and shoot rockets every now and then, do you? |
Silvia watched as her rocket began to quickly float down and took a few steps forward to catch it. Just as it touched her hands, the professor called their attention to her and dismissed the class. Silvia, carrying her bottle rocket, went to retrieve her bag and then turned back to face Professor Burbage. "Thanks for the lesson, Professor," she said. "It was exciting and I really enjoyed it." It was one of the very few times that the young Eagle did not simply leave class quietly with no more than a simple goodbye, which showed just how interested she was is this subject. And with that she headed out of the courtyard. |

Elliot and eliza! :) Cora gathered her things. Her first lesson of the year was done. And Cora hadn't messed anything up! To top it all off, she had a couple people to talk to the whole time. This made Cora ecstatic, and she couldn't wait to come back for the second lesson. "Thanks, Professor. That was a lot of fun!" Cora wandered a bit until she found where her rocket fell, scooped it up, and headed back to where Elliot and Eliza were. "Well, bye Elliot, bye Eliza! I'll see you soon!" Cora said with a smile. She kind of hoped one of them was heading to the same place she was, so she wouldn't have to actually say goodbye. Nevertheless, she happily bounced towards the castle. |

Jory stood under his rocket as he was it descend back to earth. Not that it had went to outer space. As he caught it, he heard the class being dismissed by the Professor. He heard she said what he had hoped for- they could keep their rockets. With his rocket under his arm, the badger began walking to collect his bag. "Great lesson, Professor,'' he told her as he paused next to her before moving on. |

"Professor Burbage? I was thinking about them rules and things and wondering about thrust? Like, what about magical thrust?" He'd been thinking about it a bit. "Like on brooms and stuff. Its magic what keeps you up, so how do these laws match up with magic stuff?" |
