Not even ten feet away from Mr. Murdoch's hut sits a nice sized vegetable patch surrounded by a white picket fence. Its four rows of vegetable beds are blooming with produce, all according to season of course, and if you're lucky, Waylon may have left the shed in the back open for you to try your own hand at gardening.
Seeds, spades, gloves and anything else you might need can be found inside, just remember to clean up after yourself when you're finished!
OOC: For now, this thread should only be used for those attending Ancient Runes Lesson 2.
ooc: Class has started. No announcing your late arrival please.

SPOILER!!: Mr. Artistic!

Elijah saw the expression on Kurmui's face as she 'admired' his work and he couldn't help but laugh, especially when she tried to help him out a bit by trying to describe what it was supposed to look like. Now, instead of admitting his own cluelessness when it came to Runes, the obvious thing to do was to play the humble card. Girls LOVED humble guys. Especially humble GOOD LOOKING guys. "It's very cute of you to try and help me out, but I think it is obvious my artistic abilities are... eh... lacking," he gave a small laugh, as if encouraging her to do the same and assuring her he wouldn't be offended if she did.
"Yours on the other hand. WOW. I have never seen Jera drawn so beautifully!"
Was it just her, or did Elijah seem to be a little too excited and enthusiastic about all this? Maybe he didn't have very many friends so the sort of interaction he was receiving now was a little overwhelming? Kurumi knew what that was like, having been painfully shy and introverted her first few terms at Hogwarts and given her childhood, but Elijah didn't seem to be that way. Not at all. Still, if it was making him feel comfortable then that was a good thing, right?
Blinking a few times at his response to his carving, Kurumi giggled softly and eyed it again. "I think it is obvious that you were not really carving Sowilo," she replied, chewing on her lip shyly for just a moment. Hopefully he wouldn't take offense? Because, now that she got a proper look at it, there really was no way to get a lightening bolt out of his carving. At all.
She did blush a bit when he complimented hers and missing his obvious flirting attached to it. "Oh, um, thank you..." Her mother was to thank really. All of those calligraphy lessons.
SPOILER!!: *snort* XD
The relief, however, when Kurumi said she was going to be using the paint could not be put into words. He was not for pricking his finger and enduring a wound for the sake of a class he disliked. He wasn't even entirely sure what they were actually doing.
"I think I will share the paint with you if that is okay?" See? Kurumi was sharing. Maybe she was hoping they'd have a moment like in the movies. Perhaps their hands would brush up against one another as they both reached in for the paint and she'd blush and Elijah would smile and they would share an awkward, shy feeling of... WANT.
Yeh, it was totally obvious: She WANTED him. Bad. But he'd keep her hanging for just a little longer. He had to make it worth it.
"Of course," she smiled, giving him a small nod before heading off to collect a jar of paint. Kurumi then swiftly made her way towards the professor, averting her eyes from everyone who was pricking their fingers and smearing what she felt was far too much blood all over the runes, and returned to where Elijah and her had been working. She then set the jar on the fence between the two of them and handed him one of the two brushes she had grab. "Here."
Handing him the brush with her left hand, Kurumi proceeded to multitask with her right hand and dipped the brush into the red paint and swirled it around a bit. Once she had enough on the tip, she removed it and began to paint a thin layer over her Jera.

So they have to carve the rune into the fence. Cool.
Tiffany went to the closest fence to her immediately once the professor had announced which one they had to carve. So for the Grffie, Jera it was. Seeing others have finished with their carving so fast, she noticed that she had to speed it up. "One more little bit of it...and done!"she gasped.
She listened carefully to the coming up instructions from the professor. They have to stain the rune with blood, seriously? Tiffany couldn't go with the blood thing so she had to give it for the red paint. Eyeing Kurumi and the boy next to her, she went over and asked her for some paint in a lower voice, trying not to disturb the conversation between the two. Who was that actually? She chuckled.

Elijah panicked slightly when Kurumi stated that it was obvious he wasn't carving Swa-heeley or whatever nonsense rune it was that he was supposed to be imprinting on this damn fence. He wasn't sure if it was an accusatory-i'm-onto-you kinda tone or if it was a playful-you-are-so-funny-in-all-your-dumbness kind of tone.
Sometimes girls were way too confusing.
His cheeks betrayed him and blushed slightly in response and he gave a small, quiet laugh in a hope that that would end that part of the conversation. However, he didn't need to stay panicked for long, since his compliment seemed to have distracted the Gryffindor Prefect and the attention was taken off him entirely, now.
Elijah grinned somewhat when Kurumi headed off to get them some paint. Of course she was more than happy to share. She wanted to give Elijah everything he wanted so that she could be in with a chance with him. So naiveeeee. But, hey, maybe he'd take her out on a couple of dates or something just for appearances sake. He had to look like he was wanted and taken to arouse jealousy in other, more attractive girls. DUH.
Elijah knew how to play this game.
He accepted the brush from her when she returned giving her a humble smile and a, "Thank you, oh kind one," to boot. He watched as she carefully covered her brush tip and began smearing her rune. Elijah wasn't even certain if there was ANY point whatsoever in covering his rune since it was obvious it would NOT be helping any growth of anything, but he did it anyway.
As he lathered his carving, rather sloppily, a younger girl had come up from behind them asking if she could share their pot of paint. GAWSH. Couldn't she have gone and gotten her own? He was trying to score a date here and she was totally getting in the way of him working his moves.
"Yeah sure, take as much as you need" he said politely, with his WIDEST smile. In truth he wanted to tell her to bugger off, but he was sure that a girl like Kurumi wouldn't be all that impressed if he was rude. Especially to someone of her own house.
Ignoring the younger girl - because she was too young for Elijah, and therefore she did not deserve his attention - he turned back to Kurumi. "So, maybe after class you could help me out... ya know, teach me the easiest way to carve the Sow- um.. the rune." He flashed her his best smile once again, "I'm sure there is plenty in that marvellous brain of yours that you could teach me."

Kurumi giggled slightly when she saw the color rise in his cheeks and was about to point out that he was blushing when she thought better of it. That was something her and Lewis did, inform the other that they were blushing, and Elijah was no Lewis.
Adding one more coat of paint to her rune and softly shook her head at his oh kind one comment. Really, she wasn't doing anything more than she expected others to do so his compliment really wasn't necessary. Although it was very kind of him to say so.
Spotting Tiffany out of the corner of her eye, the older lioness gave the younger a small wave and removed her wand from her pocket again. "Scourgify," she commanded while pointing it at the brush to clean it. She did catch him sharing the paint with Tiffany. See, he was doing the same thing she was and Kurumi was tempted to use his compliment on him when he spoke to her.
"You mean...tutor you?" she asked while cocking her head to the side like a curious kitten. Kurumi wasn't the best at Ancient Runes, but she did have some confidence in using Intaglio. "Sure. Just pick a time and place and I can be there." Study sessions were always helpful to everyone after all.
Turning her attention back to her rune again, Kurumi used her wand to remove any bits of paint that may have gotten outside of the rune. Once she was satisfied with the result, the Gryffindor returned her wand to her turquoise holster and returned that to her robe's pocket.

She painted some more of her rune, not really thinking of it, but rather the boy standing next to her. She wondered, again, if he and Aurora were back together. She hadn't heard they were, but she had this feeling it'd break her heart if he did so now.
When he turned toward her, she couldn't help but give a lighthearted laugh. How did it look? "Cute," she commented. Oops. "I mean, ...in an Ancient Runes sort of way." She tried to back to her rune and finished painting it in order to distract herself from her slip of the tongue. When she was finally done, she pulled her hand away and looked over at Kennedy. "How does mine look?" she asked. "Oh, and Kennedy, you've got rune paint on your face. Just...right there." She brushed her finger across his cheek to point out the paint.

Huh?
His hand shot up almost at the same time she touched his cheek, covering hers. He stared at her for a while and then realized how they might look...if anyone was looking their way. "Oh," he said, trying to rub the paint off, but just making that the small blob into a larger one. He didn't have a mirror! "Is it off now?" he asked, turning his cheek to Sierra.

It was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
She looked at her hand, now covered in paint. Oh, Merlin! Shaking her head and still laughing, she said, "Oh, Kennedy. I'm so sorry, but...you rubbed it in and made it worse." It was cute, though. Then she stopped laughing and grew a little more serious. "You should leave it on there, though. It makes you look...manly. Like a hard worker." Not the Hufflepuff kind of hard worker, though.

M'hm, his just said Sierra was cute and his face wasn't like a tomato.
He did?!
"Oh, crud," he said, staring at his hands. No more touching his face or he WOULD end up as a tomato. Literally. He glanced over at Sierra when she grew serious. Did he do something wrong?... Oh. OH! He liked the sound of that. He liked it a LOT. "Is that so?" he smirked. "Well, look at these..." he flexed his arm showing off his muscles. "...if this doesn't scream manly I don't know what else." He chuckled at his silliness...but they should get working on more runes.

"Mmhmm," she answered. "That's so." She watched as he flexed his muscles. This was another thing she'd just have to play it cool about. "...better watch those muscles now. You don't want Jenkins over there getting jealous, now do you?" Of course this was whispered. No sense in getting thrown in detention over some playful banter.
"Why don't you put all that paint to good use?" she suggested. They should probably do some rune carving and painting before they really did get thrown in detention. "I'll carve, and you paint." On that note, she started the charm again. "Intaglio...Berkana...Berkana...Berkana...Berkana. .."

He glanced over where Professor Jenkins stood and gave one more flex of his muscles. There. Hehe. "I guess I'll have to put these away," he said, with a sad sigh. Of course, he was joking.
Kennedy nodded his head at Sierra. "Let's get to it then." He liked working together, and they made a great team obviously. He dipped his finger into the paint and when she was done he traced the Berkana rune with it.
Oh Merlin!
He didn't realise that carving runes into a fence and staining them was going to cause all these romantic feelings going through the class. Oliver was watching the two Slytherin Prefects while they went back and forth and he rolled his eyes with the whole paint on the face thing. He almost interjected that the paint on Kennedy's face did not make him look cute. It made him look like an idiot.
But eh...who was he to get in the way of teenage love.

Setting down her paint she looked over at Nerida not expecting her to have any blood thinking oh Nerida is going to go for the paint. Nope Nerida went for the blood. She gave a glance down at her friend now she left a note for herself Narumi did not like the site of blood.
And of course there was always one in the class that was gonna faint at the sight of blood. Oliver let out a sigh and moved forward. Just as a young Ravenclaw stated the obvious to him. "Yes, thank you Nerida. I kinda worked that out."
He gave his wand a flick and levitated the young the young Gryffindor out of the way and onto a makeshift stretcher he had placed near Waylon's hut. It couldn't be said that he wasn't prepared. "Just leave her for a moment. She'll come around shortly." Such sympathy he had as well.

Sometimes girls were way too confusing.
His cheeks betrayed him and blushed slightly in response and he gave a small, quiet laugh in a hope that that would end that part of the conversation.
Oliver walked around the fence checking on the students progress and nodded in approval at their efforts. He had to stop however as he watched Miss Hollingberry and her try hard suitor.
He cleared his throat. "You know." he drawled. "If you spent half as much time working on your carving as you do on your pick up lines to Miss Hollingberry here, then I would have the utmost confidence that you would blitz this class." As it was...
The Hufflepuff got a look before his gaze went to the Gryffindor Prefect. "If you insist on tutoring the boy Miss Hollingberry, may I suggest the Nauthiz rune." She was smart, Oliver was sure he didn't need to elaborate any further.
"Nice work everyone. Mr Murdoch is going to be very thankful for the efforts you have put in. Although I must say I am little disappointed with you older students. What? Are you scared of a little blood?" He chuckled softly before continuing on. "Alrighty, I'd like you all to now carve the protection rune into the fence, using the same methods, before we go and have a little fun with some other runes."

With one last flourish he finished painting his rune on the fence, turning to hear the Professor mention something about fear of blood. He shook his head silently and struggled to keep the smirk off his face. There were too many rational reasons for him not to use his own blood so there.
Setting the paint stain aside he took his wand again and paused. Protection rune... but there are two of them technically. Up goes the warm, nicely gloved hand "Professor, would you prefer that we use the Algiz rune or the Ihwaz rune?"

Pick up lines? What were pick up lines?
Blinking in confusion for a moment, Kurumi looked back and forth between the professor and Elijah several times before whispering to the Hufflepuff. "Elijah, what's a pick up line?" And how did you pick up anything with words?
When Professor Jenkins addressed her specifically, her posture straightened a bit and she listened carefully to what he had to say. Nauthiz? Well, that one was particularly easy to carve and, well, seeing as Elijah had struggled with the more complicated ones...it made sense to practice carving something simpler. Yep.
Unless...he was inferring something with the meaning of that particular rune which was need, want, and desire. Well, that made sense too. Elijah was wanting to be friends with her. "Thank you, professor, for the advice," she said with a confident smile. Nauthiz it was.

Nodding when the task was given, Kurumi removed her turquoise holster from her pocket and was about to remove her wand as well when she heard Vickers ask a question.

Nodding and with a faint smile tugging on her lips. Vickers did bring up a good point. Algiz was known as the rune of protection, but Ihwaz was sort of the same in a nontraditional sense of the word. "Perhaps we could carve both?" Kurumi suggested. "One for protection in a literal sense and the other for prevention which is another form of protection?"

It seemed that Tiffany had really interrupt the two's perfect conversation, at least in that Hufflepuff's eyes. She could really sense the anger that he was having on her asking for paint from Kurumi. Actually why was that happening?
Was he one of those boys that were having crush on her and now he was COMMUNICATING with her so he wouldn't want to be disturbed.
She decided to turn her focus onto Kurumi. It was so nice of her having the brush prepared for her and she seemed to be really pleased with what the Hufflepuff had said. Tiffany wanted to tell her so badly that it was a fake smile and a fake agreement. "Thanks!"she replied with a big grin on her face."And nice to see you back from that frozeness." She went back to her own spot and listened to their conversation secretly. What? He asked her to be his tutor? Tiffany shock her head hard as she heard this, it was totally unacceptable. "Don't say yes,"she whispered in a soft voice and continued covering her rune with the paint.

GLARE. GLARE. GLARE.
What was this Gryffie's problem and why was she so keen on ruining his chances with Kurumi... Oh wait, of course. She was madly in love with him! That's what it will be. Aw, how cute! She was jealous that he had been giving all his attention to Kurumi and not her. Elijah tried to contain his grin at the sweetness of it all.
"I think the dear lady can speak for herself," he said kindly. He couldn't be too harsh. He didn't want to break the poor girl's heart any more than it already was. "You are doing such a good job painting your rune. Just you keep at that, squirt, whilst me and Kurumi finish off our conversation," he even tussled the girl's hair for good measure. It made him seem big brotherly and kind, right?

Elijah feigned shock at Professor Jenkins words, "Pick up lines, Sir!?" How DARE he accuse Elijah of trying to pick up Kurumi when he was simply just trying to LEARN about Runes of an ancient nature!
Ach, who was he kidding? It probably was more obvious to this old guy since he probably had that 'life experience' thing his Father always went on about. Elijah pondered for a moment as to whether or not the Professor was single... if so, then perhaps he shouldn't be criticising Elijah so much. One could argue if he hadn't been studying Ancient Runes so much (YAWN), he may have given himself more opportunities with the ladies.
He pretended to act all shy and embarrassed (girls LOVED vulnerable guys) and whispered to Kurumi out of other people's earring, "I don't think Professor Jenkins is all to impressed with my carving... and what did he mean about teaching me the Na-... that rune? Is it a learning boosting rune?"
SPOILER!!: pick up lines 101

Now. This. Was. Too. Funny.
She didn't know what a pick up line was? Perhaps Elijah hadn't quite grasped how naive this poor girl really was. She probably really did think he wanted tutoring instead of a date. Merlin's sideburns!
"Um.. a pick up line is... well, it's when someone compliments another person," YES! Elijah, you genius Hufflepuff, you! "Yeah... like, when you say something nice to them and it picks up their mood, ya see? I guess i've been complimenting you too much. Sorry if it's annoying, I just like to praise people when they do such good work is all."
Smooooooooottthhhhhhhhh.
In regards to what type of protection rune to use, Elijah honestly didn't even know there was one let alone two, so he stayed out of that conversation. He kept his wand handy, ready to copy Kurumi's carving in the hope that it may look a bit more authentic than his last carving.

"Alright... we can start with Algiz then maybe alternate them with Ihwaz" he replied, then eyed one of the fences that had one of the other Runes already carved in. Taking his wand he launched down again and started to carve the first protection rune "Intaglio Algiz..." he murmured repeated, making a nice deep carving against the wood of the fence.

Kurumi shook her head softly, a small smile tugging on the corners of her lips while she tucked some of her long black hair behind her ears. "You did ask," she replied. She was simply doing what she felt was right. When someone asks you for help, it would be mighty heartless to turn them away and Elijah had been nothing but nice to her.

Giggling softly at his comment about Professor Jenkins, Kurumi gave the Hufflepuff her full attention when he began to explain pick up lines to her. Hmm, that didn't seem like such a bad thing. Why would Professor Jenkins not want Elijah to brighten people's moods? Kurumi, while feeling slightly awkward at the frequency of the compliments, had rather appreciated them. "It's hasn't been annoying at all," she replied with a small shake of her head and her cheeks rising in color just a bit more. "I really appreciate you picking up my mood."
She flashed him another shy smile before turning her attention back to Vickers.

To whom she nodded.
"Sounds like a plan to me," she chirped, looking back over her shoulder at Elijah. "Maybe...you should watch me to see how to carve this one?" Once again completely oblivious to what other ways the offer could be interpreted by him.
Moving just a little bit away from Vickers and towards a vacant part of the fence, Kurumi removed her wand and waited a moment to make sure Elijah was watching before she began. "Intaglio Algiz...Algiz...Algiz...Algiz..." she whispered as she began to carve the run into the fence by making a 'Y' shape first and then adding the extra line in the middle.
She had to wonder if stroke order counted for Ancient Runes like they did in calligraphy. Perhaps another question to ask Professor Jenkins some other time.

"Alrighty, I'd like you all to now carve the protection rune into the fence, using the same methods, before we go and have a little fun with some other runes."
Yay! Erin wasn't. She used her own blood. Yes, Professor Jenkins. We're big and strong and brave.
Protection rune?
She heard the older students, Vickers and Kurumi say something about carving the two protection runes, Algiz and Ihwaz. Being a good follower and obedient student herself, Erin imitated the work of the two. Though this time, she insisted to herself that she needed to try the spell. She should learn now, or never.
Peeking at Kurumi and Vickers' carving, the wand movement and how they pronouce it, Erin started with her wand pointed on the fence "Intaglio Algiz."
Still working with her runes carving, she couldn't help but eavesdropped from Kurumi and the Elijah guy's conversation. Pick up lines? Really? For some weird reasons, a statement was formed in her head and it would be really corny hearing it from any other guy. 'If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together.' She chuckled at the thought.

Alyssa listened as the Professor instructed them to now carve the Protection rune into the fence. That would be either Algiz and Ihwaz. Alyssa decided that she would first carve out the rune Algiz which looked like a letter Y with a line in the middle of the fork.
Alyssa first concentrated on what the rune Algiz represented and what the rune looked like. Then she pointed her wand at the fence and said, "INTAGLIO....ALGIZ....ALGIZ...ALGIZ" concentrating on the spell as she carved out the rune on the fence. First the letter Y followed by a line in the middle of the fork.
Once she was done. She blew off the dust and cleared the splinters. Then she took out her pen knife again and made a cut on the little finger of her left hand and then began to smear the rune with her blood, while at the same time chanting,"ALGIZ...ALGIZ...ALGIZ.." followed by the gladr to the rune "elhaz elhaz elhaz, z z z z z z z z z, uz az iz ez uz, oz ez iz az uz, z z z z z z z z z, (m m m m m m m m m)" while concentrating on what the Rune represented.
When she was done smearing the blood on the rune, Alyssa inspected the rune to make sure that it was completely smeared with her blood before she stepped back and started working on the second rune.

Ella giggled to herself when Professor Jenkins asked the older students if they were afraid of a little blood. Tee-hee. Scaredy oldies! Ella wasn't scared! Maybe a little disgusted...but not scared. GRIN. And oh! They were meant to carve the protection rune now? Well if she remembered correctly from earlier in the lesson, Professor Jenkins had said they would be using Algiz for that.
Picking up her gouge tool again, the second year once again knelt down in front of the fence and concentrated on the rune she would be making "Right...protection...Algiz...Algiz...Algiz...Algi z." And the second year began to carefully carve the rune into the wood. First she made a vertical line down, making sure to make it as straight as possible. Then, the second year added in the "arms" as she liked to refer to them. Cause if you looked at the Algiz symbol, it kind of looked like a person with raised arms...or antlers...she saw that too. After a few more minutes of careful carving, the rune was done. TA-DAAAAA! It looked stupendous! Mr. Murdoch would be so pleased. GRIN. Now for the blood...

As Elijah explained what pick up lines were, or rather, pick up lines, he couldn't help but notice the attentiveness of the Gryffindor. She seemed to be one of those people determined to seek out knowledge of every kind. It surprised him that the hat hadn't saw fit to place her in amongst the Claws, but who was he to criticise an enchanted cloth? Her thirst for knowledge of all things academic was good, but it appeared to sacrifice her common sense, otherwise he wouldn't have to explain such simple things like pick up lines.
The Prefect took him for his word, though, and even went as far as to show her appreciation for all his hard efforts. He couldn't help but think her innocence and naivety about all of this was slightly cute, as was the shy smile she gave him.
Her attention changed to Vickers as the pair discussed protection runes some more. He nodded along to their conversation and pretended that he had a clue as to what they were going on, when really he was making a mental note that he should send an owl to Vickers asking him if he wanted to hang out some time. It was the least he owed the 'Claw after he practically did all of his Potions work for him (despite the fact he nearly frightened the life out of him with all his PLAGUE talk). Maybe he could even help Vickers get some girls of his own. The boy's brains were certainly something he could work with.
Once the two brain boxes and sussed out what would be the most suitable plan of protection, Kurumi suggested that Elijah watch her carvings and try to copy. He tried his best to fight off a grin, "Sounds perfect, Kurumi."
The girl set to work and Elijah positioned himself behind her, maybe a little too close, looking over her shoulder clearly watching intently at the girl's work. "You really are fantastic at this," he said centimetres from her ear, 'picking her up' once more. "I wish I had that kind of talent."

No reply forthcoming from the professor, Sarah just did the thing she hated - she just followed everyone else and carved out both. It looked cool, then she needed to add red. This time she was going to be brave so she pricked herself and added the blood to the rune and smeared it on.

Now that she had completed making the Rune Algiz, Alyssa decided that she would now switch and carve the other protection rune Eihwaz, which looked like a sideways letter Z only facing in the opposite direction.
She decided that she would carve that rune a few inches away from her Rune Algiz. Once she found the spot, Alyssa first stared at the wooden fence imagining the rune being carved into it. Then she concentrated on what the rune represented which was protection.
Alyssa took a deep breath and released it before she closed her eyes and cleared her mind of all thoughts except what the rune represented, what it looked like and what she wanted to carve.
Then she opened her eyes, took another deep breath and released it while still concentrating really hard on the task at end. She pointed her wand at the fence and said, "INTAGLIO...EIHWAZ....EIHWAZ...EIHWAZ" as she carved the rune. She first carved the top horizonal line, then the diagonal line starting from top to bottom and then ending with another horizontal line until the rune looked like a reversed letter Z.
Alyssa quickly blew off the dust and gently removed the splinters from the rune that she had carved. Now for the blood staining ritual. Alyssa giggled, she was definitely running out of fingers. She took out her penknife and made a small cut on the ring finger of her left hand, pocketed the knife before squeezing on the finger to force it to bleed.
Once blood started to ooze out, Alyssa proceeded to stain the Rune and while still concentrating on what the Rune represented, she chanted, "EIHWAZ...EIHWAZ...EIHWAZ" followed by the Gladr for that specific rune. "eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz, (iwaz iwaz iwaz), e e e e e e e e e, iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu, iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu, e e e e e e e e e."
Alyssa slowly stained the rune until it was completely covered with blood. Then she wiped her finger on a piece of tissue before looking down to inspect the rune that she had just carved and blood stained it.
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Picking at the scab that was already on her finger, Ella waited until she saw some blood and then placed her wounded finger over the protection rune, careful to cover it entirely. "This is completely barbaric." She said thoughtfully as her blood soaked into the carving. Right, well at least it would keep Mr. Murdoch's garden safe. That was the bright side of all this, yeah? She made a mental note to drop by the garden and see how it was doing a couple of times, just to make sure all this rune stuff was working. It would work, right?
Alright. Now they were talking. Some sctual distruction that is not of the body.
Oichi grabbed a tool and begain carving the eihwaz rune onto the fence careful following the pattern of her drawing of it, "Eihwaz, Eihwaz, EIHWAZ" Oh, this would have to do something good for the plants, it had to.

Brushing her hand over her carved rune to remove any bits of sawdust and dirt, Kurumi leaned forward a bit to blow on it when she felt someone getting awfully close to her. Paying no attention to it at first, the sixth year jumped when she felt someone's breath on her ear and neck. Her shoulder probably collided with his jaw when she jumped and her head snapped back around to see Elijah standing close...a little too close to her "S-S-Sorry," she stammered. "You...you just surprised me..."She took a subconscious step back and away from him while chewing on her lower lip.
Now that she had made a little more space between them, she could feel the heat in her cheeks and she didn't like it. She had said to watch her carve...not loom over her like that. It made her feel uncomfortable. Only she didn't actually voice that - although she probably should have. "Um...t-t-thank you...so...now you should g-give it a try..."
Kurumi moved past him to retrieve the red paint again to stain the run when she noticed one of her lions hard at work.

"Hey, Oichi," Kurumi greeted softly. "You might want to start with Algiz since that is the official rune of protection. Vickers and I were just theorizing about the other one." A conversation she hadn't realized so many people had been listening in on and taken to be the truth.
Returning to where she had carved her rune, Kurumi made sure to position herself so that her back was NOT towards Elijah as she applied a thin layer of red paint to it.

There was this curious conversation happening between Kurumi and Elijah that Vickers tried so hard to follow. But between that and chanting the carving spell they might as well have been speaking in Italian because this Ravenclaw thought he was getting it only to realize that wasnt quite it. Picking up the mood? Whaaat?
But at the corner of his eye he suddenly felt Kurumi jump, rattling him as well, the end of his Algiz carving skipping and a large gash carved across the other fences as he lost his balance.
Oops.
Pushing his glasses up, he peered at Gryffindor and the Hufflepuff in wonder "You guys ok?" he mumbled. Yeah lets just ignore that gash across the fence there mmhmm.
Moving to another spot where he was AWAY from said gash on the fence he haunches down again and started to work on the second protective rune "Intaglio Ihwaz..." he chants repeatedly.

GAHHH. MISSION ABORT. MISSION ABORT.
Three steps forward, five steps back. It seemed that the Gryffindor hadn't taken too kindly to the invasion of her personal space, which was to be expected and a risk Elijah had decided to take. No matter. He could still win her over. Surely this one little mishap wouldn't destroy all his hard work so far?
"Oh, I am sooooo sorry. Truly. I was just trying to see it from your point of view... and the best way to do that is to look at what you were doing from behind you. Gawsh. I am SO sorry, Kurumi. Are you okay?" Hopefully his apologises would mend some of the wounds he had seared open. She should at least be bloody grateful, Elijah usually apologised to NO one.
He moved toward a blank spot of the fence, ready to have a go himself. "I'm really sorry I scared you," he said again for good measure, before setting to work.
The Gryffindor had made a funny Y shape with some line through it by the looks of things. He was sure he wouldn't be able to do it half as neat, but he wasn't SO dim that he couldn't carve in this simple shape. "Intaglio," he said, chanting algiz after that (or some variation of it since he hadn't really being paying attention).
When he was done, he took a step back to examine his work. It didn't look too shabby. One of the two lines at the top of the Y shape had been carved slightly longer than the other, but nothing so serious as to worry. He turned to Kurumi to get her thoughts on it, but she seemed pre-occupied with some little Gryffindor brat. Pfft. She must be avoiding him.

Scared Kurumi? The Ravenclaw nodded his head, understanding how that domino effect happened. But it was the wink-winkiy thing that got that nod to slow down, nearly changing to shake-shaky head. Elijah was putting the moves on Kurumi wasnt he? Well Vickers may be super smart on many things but with matters of the heart he was dumb as a doorknob. Now he understood what that whole pick up mood thing was. Doesnt Elijah know that Kurumi has a boyfriend? A fellow Hufflepuff at that? Nevermind the fact that Vickers actually saw and fell for Kurumi wayyyy before said Hufflepuff boyfriend and now Potions-buddy-and-secret-rival-for-Kurumi's-heart-...friend. No no no, this Ravenclaw is not gonna shake his head or say any of that out loud. You know why?
Because he was gonna focus on carving this protection rune. Thats why. For only the Norse Gods can prevent this unmitigated emotional disaster.
"Intaglio Ihwaz... Ihwaz... Ihwaz..."

Kurumi shivered slightly and her right arm went across her chest to her shoulder and sort of gripped it shyly. He had been awfully close. People didn't usually get that close to her in a lesson, let alone in general. Well, minus one rather obvious exception. It was sort of confusing and made her cheeks flush some more.
"I-I'm okay..." she stammered, meeting his gaze briefly and offering him another awkward but shy smile. Okay...just confused as to why he felt he needed to get that close.
Kurumi's attention went to the fence and was just about to carve one more Algiz when she saw Vickers lose his balance slightly...but then ask her is she was alright? He needed to sort out his priorities.
Before she could speak, however, Elijah had chimed in and pretty much explained things, so she sort of just nodded her head and returned her attention to the fence, which is why she missed all the winking that was going on.
Hearing Vickers begin to carve Ihwaz, Kurumi decided that it was time for her to carve one as well and move a little further down the fence, passing Elijah's work along the way. "That looks better," she said softly, a hint of nervousness in her voice. Finding a new spot, Kurumi pointed her wand at the fence. "Intaglio Ihwaz...Ihwaz...Ihwaz..."
