'YOU LEFT ME! WITHOUT SAYING WHY! YOU JUST RAN AWAY, LIKE A COWARD!' Violet snarled, hoping the coward comment would hit home to Lilly. She was acting like a coward. Cowards ran from uncomfortable situations.

"YOU-" Lilly stopped. Violet hit her. A coward. She stamped on Violet's foot. "I can't help being such a stupid git!" she sat down, gently.

'WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU, MULTI PERSONALIC?' Violet shouted, after Lilly stomped on her toe, then sat down. 'WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?' Violet yelled, before turning and running out of the hall. Stupid twin. Being a cow.

Minerva was sitting with Harvey at the Huff table when she heard screaming and then saw Violet running towards them. "Violet, Violet stop. Are you ok?"

Lilly pulled a face at Violet as she ran off, then stormed off towards the common room. Lilly was such a git and she knew it. Violet and rose were right. She hated herself.

Rose sighed as they both stormed off. She sat down and placed her head in her hands. Then she felt her owl, Hazel, pecking her head. She looked up at the owl and smiled.
'Hey, girl, what have you got for me?' Hazel shook her head sadly and held out a letter. Rose raised an eyebrow and took the letter. She read through it and started to cry.
'No. No no no no no no no.' she sobbed, continuing to read the letter.



Her Mum was probably going to die. Her Mum. The twin's Mum.

Lilly turned when she heard sobbing. Rose? She ran back to the table. "What's wrong Rose?" Lilly asked, curiously. "Is that a letter from home?"

Rose nodded. 'I-I-It's Mum. The doctors say that there's not much hope that she'll survive the cancer.' Rose sobbed, handing the letter to Lilly.

Ronnie walked into the great hall, and to the Gryffindor table. She then saw a sight she had never wanted to see. There was Rose, crying with a letter in her hands. Ronnie ran up to her as fast as she could. "Rose, what's wrong?" she asked, wrapping an arm around her.

'I-I-I got a l-letter from home. Mum's p-p-probably not going to ma-make it.' Rose sobbed, showing Ronnie the letter she had been sent, sobbing onto her best friend's shoulder.

Ronnie was shocked. Oh no. Oh no no no...not Rose! No! Rose can't lose her MUM..there has to be way! She couldn't imagine what losing a mum could be like. She's always thought how it would be to lose a family member but couldn't imagine it...and she always wondered how poor Jordan can just be happy all the time without both of his parents!

Ronnie couldn't find words to say for a LONG time...she didn't know what to say. She hated when she couldn't really figure out a way to help her friends, it broke her heart. When she had found her voice, she said "Rose, I-I'm so sorry." she said, rubbing Rose's back gently with her hand. "It's going to be okay." she said soothingly. "Trust me."

Rose cried quietly, trying to stop crying. She didn't likie crying,. She and Violet both had a problem with showing people their feelings. Rose found it easier to be angry, and Violet found it easier to have no emotion at all. Just happiness. 'B-B-But it won't be OK! Our Mum'll be dead!' Rose sobbed, crumpling and un-crumpling the letter in her hand. 'And I have to tell the twins! I have to tell them that Mum probably won't make it!' Rose sobbed. The twins, happy-go-lucky they were, would completely break down. Especially Violet. And all this happened on Rose's birthday... God.

It broke Ronnie's heart to see Rose cry like this. She hated it. It made HER wanna cry...but that'd make Rose worse. She decided to be tough and hold it in.

Ronnie pulled Rose close to her and patted her back. "If you ever want someone to talk to, whenever, remember I'm always here for you." she said.

Rose nodded, before sitting up straight and wiping her face. 'I need to be brave. I can't let this ruin me.' she said shakily. And this was why the sorting hat placed her in Gryffindor, rather than Slytherin like it had wanted to. She was cunning, but brave. Many people commented over how she should have been in Slytherin, she just told them that she nearly was. And proud of it. Slytherins were awesome!

"Rose, if you feel like crying, let it out. It'll help." she said smiling at her. "But...if you wanna do it somewhere else...you can." she said, taking a nearby napkin and wiping away Rose's tears. She then gave Rose a big hug and didn't let go for a long while.

Rose laughed waterly when Ronnie cleaned her tears away. 'You're acting like a mother and her chil-' Rose started, before screwing her eyes up. 'Wrong choice of words.' she mumbled, hugging Ronnie back.

"Aww, Rose." Ronnie said. "You make me smile." she said. "Now, how about a bit of food, eh?" she asked.

'That's my job.' Rose said emotionlessly. 'Sure.' she nodded, taking a Quorn burger and eating it quietly. Quiet was strange for Rose. She was always talking. Always. But she couldn't.

Ronnie smiled warmly, trying to cheer Rose up.

Ronnie watched as Rose became rather quiet. It was a bit unusual but if she didn't want to talk, she didn't have to. Ronnie smiled and began piling her plate.

'Have I ever told you that I was nearly sorted in Slytherin?' Rose asked quietly. 'I was disappointed not to be put there. But I'm happy in Gryffindor as well, now. Especially as I met you.' she smiled at Ronnie, putting some chips on her plate and eating them slowly.

Tummy rumbling loudly, Thea entered the Great Hall. Nearly jogging up to the table, Thea sat down and stared at the food. She had never been so hungry in all her life!!! Pulling a bowl towards her, Thea spied chicken nuggets. She couldn't believe it. Chicken dippers and a bottle of tomato sauce were beside it.

Once her plate was full, she picked up a chicken dipper. Dipping into the large dollop of sauce, she then took a bite. Chewing slowly, Thea just sat there. Absorbing the chicken dipperness.. Heheh.

Taking her copy of the Daily Prophet out of her school bag, she spread it across the table and scanned the front page for anything interesting.

"No you haven't." Ronnie said. Ronnie wondered why she hadn't...?

"All houses are great, in their own way." she said with a shrug. But some Slytherins...siriusly. They could get on her nerves...

"Aww, thanks Rose! That really makes me happy." Ronnie said grinning. Rose did have a special way of making you feel very happy inside.

"Anything interesting in the Daily Prophet? William asked Thea. " You like the chicken nuggets?" William asked Thea. ' How are classes going for you?" William asked Thea.

Thea jumped slightly as Willam sat himself down beside her. resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she smiled instead. 'Nope.. and yes I love them!' Thea smiled again and pushedher bowl towards him. 'Do you want one?' On this occasion, she didn't mmind sharing. There were plenty more..

Lilly gently took the letter. She froze. Oh God, this was bad. She bit her lip, holding back her tears. "A-are you ok?" she asked Rose, who was still sobbing as Ronnie came up.
