o__O

Oh yes, it was definitely bad.

Girls never said those words like that unless they wanted to break up with you. He quickly racked his brain thinking of everything he'd done in the past few weeks... but nothing that would cause this came to mind.

"Oh... okay..." he sadly stammered out after a few seconds.

Maybe Caroline wanted to talk about something good?

The way he had just spoken, broke her heart. How could she do this to him? When he was perfect for her.

"First .... First of all I want you to know that you are the be
best thing that has ever happened to me."
She said lifting her head up and meeting his eyes with her blue ones. She had to look at him. As she talked, it was the right thing to do. After everything it just seem wrong not to. He had been so could to her.If some things were different, it wouldn't be like this.
"I really don't know how I could of coped with what happen in Itally without you by my side"

"You made me believe in love again." She took his hands in hers, and squeezed them. After the way she was treated by the last boyfriend. She thought that she would never fall in love again. But she did, nearly instantly. It had definitely been the day that he taught her how to play football. It wa a lot of fun that day. Those were the days when their relationship was simple, they were easy. She knew that they wasn't suppose to be easy but back then they were less complicated at say the least.

Yeah, thats right tell him that then break his heart. It wasn't like she fell out of love with him. She was maddly in love with him. But a girl can only take so much. She was tired, tired of fighting for him, and tired of the drama.

For the first time in her life, Caroline Scott was giving up. She closed her eyes, not wanting to open them, because when she did the tears would start. Opening her eyes, as the tears started to fall.

"This is hard ... so hard. You don't even know." She shook her head. "I can't take it anyone. I don't want to keep fighting. The pressure and drama is never ending." She actually took a step toward him and pressed her forehead against his shoulder. In an effort to hide her face, since what she said was the hardest part. ""I still love you. That's when she completely broke down, which was the point of them breaking up so she wouldn't have a breakdown.

Carter quickly withdrew his hands as Caroline talked. He looked her over with disbeleif evident in his eyes.

She started off with 'you are the best thing that has ever happened to me'. As if that would help. It only made every word she said sting more.

He'd been through two relationships that had ended abruptly. And the pain afterwards... it seemed impossible to bear. ...At least at the time.

But he'd rather have both of those together than be standing here with Caroline uttering the words 'I still love you.'

He stepped backwards. He was uncomfortable with the physical closeness. No, that was something special. Something reserved for someone that thought he was worth fighting for. Someone who didn't care about the pressure or the drama... or whatever else was going through Caroline's head.

He looked blankly at her. He felt completely out of breath.

"If it's so hard... you don't have to do it." he said slowly. She hadn't yet said the words 'it's over' or 'we're breaking up'. So he still had hope right? He'd give her a chance to take it back.

And he desperately wanted her to take it back.

"You know this is what you want to." She continued to cry harder. She really wished that she was in the comfront of his arms right now. What wait she didn't have to do it? She repeated it out loud "I didn't have to do it? I have to its for you own good. I'm not right for you. Let me explain this to you."

I shouldn't have to be a girl whos like to be with you. I dont want to be. I can't fight, not anymore. Why should I be the only one who does the fighting for us. Marie taunts me and you do nothing about it." And eveythin just slid out of her mouth.

If it had been any other day, Kurumi would have perhaps drawn up a flow chart or something to show Treyen just how wrong he was, but the fight wasn't in her right now. Instead, she simply nodded and shrugged her shoulders in defeat. "O-Okay."

Kurumi frowned a bit when he began pulling away, but she knew she couldn't keep up the illusion of this forever. Yet, she felt like she was still in her little dream world when Treyen continued to lock his gaze on her own. While her cheeks flushed, she felt her confused heart break just a little more when he spoke again.

Not knowing what else to say, she looked at the ground and kicked aimlessly at a dust bunny.

She looked up again when his hand brushed against her tear stained check and she had to remind herself that this gesture did not mean what she hoped it did, or what she had thought it had meant all this time. "Oh..." she managed to squeak out. Suddenly, Kurumi became confused as to why she was feeling so strongly for Treyen. They had talked about how much he and her father thought a like, so was this attraction - or whatever one wanted to call it - because she had found someone who felt like and reminded her of her family? That had been the case for Salander in the end. He reminded her a lot of her oldest brother, Ryunosuke, and it took her pelting him and Lexi with cookie dough carrying birds to figure it out.

Still, these thoughts didn't make the feeling of rejection hurt any less.

"I...I..." she stammered forcing herself to look down at the floor. Her trembling hands moved to play with her hair and she felt the flower Treyen had tucked neatly into her hair earlier. Kurumi chewed on her bottom lip as a few more tears threatened to trickle down her face. "I...don't want to lose what we have..." Whatever you wanted to call it now. Kurumi felt confused and suffocated once more. She was really going to need time to think this all through. She needed to write her father.

Was that a giggle? Truth be told, that reaction shocked him. He hadn't seen it coming, but it was welcomed. Very welcomed.

Kurumi may have agreed with him right now, but there was something in her eyes that told him she didn't fully agree with his statement. Treyen eyed her and smiled a small smile. He was rather content with her answer.

There was frowning, he noticed. At the same time he knew that pulling away was what needed to be done, because it was making Kurumi feel like she was feeling before...but...she was aware of how Treyen felt, so, things out to be different, right?

His eyes were still on her own, and there was a moment when Treyen thought he saw a whole bunch of emotions rush through her eyes, but it may be nothing...he was probably imagining it.

What is it that they have? Kurumi didn't want to lose that, whatever it was. He looked down for a moment, "I don't want to lose you," he said, looking up again, "I think you'll have nothing to worry about, though, but putting some space between us may be a good idea for a while," his hands were on his pockets by now, Kurumi wasn't crying anymore and there was no need to hold her again, right?

"Don't be ridiculous. This isn't what I want. This would never be what I want." Carter said. There was a hint of begging in his voice.

"My own good?" he asked. This time a bit of hysteria was in his voice. What in Merlin's name would have possessed Caroline to think that Carter would want this? Or need this? It was obvious what he wanted and what he needed - the girl who was standing a few feet away. But the few feet seemed like miles to Carter. The thought crossed his mind that he was having an out-of-body experience. It was like he had died when Caroline uttered those words any guy dreads of hearing.

But that wasn't true. The shortness in his breath and the stinging toward his eyes told him he was very much alive. It was a little ironic. The worst thing that ever happened to him was taking place in the very room that held the treasures of the very best things that happened to people. People that weren't Carter. ...People that were living happy lives on the other side of that door.

What was she talking about? Carter had never once seen Caroline throw any punches... must less a first punch. And all girls bad mouthed. He was pretty sure it was some kind of genetic problem.

"But you're not that girl... you've never been that girl... you'll never be that girl." Which was one of the many reasons he loved her. "You're the girl that'll go out of her way to make someone feel better. You're the girl that would only fight when it came down to defending someone she cared about. You just have to be you to be with me." And he wouldn't want it any other way. Although, at this point, he may just take her any way she came.

"You're... you're breaking up with me because of Marie?" he asked. Carter was surprised to find that it was possible for him to feel worse than he had just two seconds earlier. "I have talked with her. Multiple times actually. But she's not just some rag doll I can control. She's your cousin." As in, he wasn't the one causing the issues there. And breaking up with him wouldn't solve it. In fact, it would probably make it worse.

Space. Right….Kurumi really didn’t like the sound of that. Wasn’t the space between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff common rooms enough? Still, even without Treyen suggesting that they make more between them, the young lioness already felt like she was worlds away.

Up until the moment she had picked up that ruddy piece of paper, she had felt as though her and Treyen were on the same page of one of the best novels ever read. Perhaps she was being idealistic and naïve, but what else could you expect from a thirteen year old who had lived her entire life in solitude until the age of eleven? She had been rejected before…for what she was…being half Japanese that is since no one in her small town even knew that the wizarding world existed. It had stung…but she had to remind herself that THAT was NOT why Treyen was pushing her away right now.

No, it was for a reason that perhaps stung worse. In the moment anyway. Give Kurumi a few days months to think things over clearly and she would come to see that the rejection she was feeling wasn’t so bad at all. She wasn’t losing the boy in front of her, but gaining him in another way. Still, right now, with her little heart practically in glass pieces on the floor, she felt like how she had the day that her best friend had transferred schools to DISTANCE herself from Kurumi – all because of what she was.

I-I-If you think so…” she whimpered again, using the sleeve of her robes to wipe away some stray tears. She somehow knew there was no point in arguing about this fact.

Looking up, she saw that Treyen had his hands in his pockets and took that as a signal that their conversation was over for now. Slowly, she took a step backwards, her hands clutching the fabric of her robe over her heart.

G-G-Good bye…T-T-Treyen…

The words hung on her lips and caught in her throat, and she immediately turned her back towards him. He had seen her cry enough for now, right? However, the shaking of her shoulders probably gave away that she was crying again – not that she expected Treyen to do anything about it now. Hadn’t he done enough for her already?

It had never been more obvious to her that in that moment that he loved her as much as she loved him. Not this she ever doubted it. Never echoed in her head. That wasn't what he wanted? His words and her mind were conflicting. Her heart on the other hand was just stop this. You're getting a chance to back it all back. "I'm not that same girl, that you met in the stands over a year ago. Or at least I don’t feel like her anymore."

"Yes welll mmm no. She's not the main problem. I know you have. NO one can control her. Like I need to be reminded that she's my cousin." Shaking her head, she knew that and did she like it, not too much. " Its MAINLY me. Its me. This is all my doing. I never wanted to hurt you. Never. I have things the I need to work through. I think I just need a break." She stepped a bit closer to them, could that be the middle ways point, just a break? She grabbed his hand. She just needed to feel his warmth, somehow

"You know I think you just enjoyed the fact that you were part of an us again." She said while rubbing his hand with her thumb. It wasn't to say that their relationship was just to fill his emotional ego. But some guys just in having a relationship. "We..... we're amazing together. You still mean so much to me." Good job tell him that now, now that you've broken his heart."I just think that a break would be good for both of us" She stepped a bit closer to him. Could that be the middle ways point, just a break?

She wiped her eyes and when she looked up they met his. "Maybe this can work later, but for now this is something that's right for both of us You'll see" he would understand in time. She reach up and kissed him. As soon as her lips touched his, her eyes started to fill with tears. By the time she had pulled away her face to soaked in tears. She took a step back, turned and rushed toward the door. She couldn't stay there anymore, she had came to say what she needed to say. It killed her to do it. Stopping at the door she tilted her head enough to see him out the corner of her eye. "Goodbye, Carter."

Carter couldn't believe what was happening. With each word Caroline was making less and less sense. She said something about Marie... and him just wanting to be in a relationship again... and saying it would be better for both of them.

He was tempted to point his wand at Caroline to undue the Confundus Charm someone had placed on her. But he couldn't move his arm. In fact. He couldn't do much but stand there and watch his life slowly shatter.

He'd always thought the term 'heartbreak' had been an exaggeration. But he soon realized that it wasn't. As Caroline kissed him goodbye he felt as someone had punched him real well in the chest.

Then she was at the door. And soon she was just... gone. He waited there for what felt like hours staring at the door wishing that she'd come back. But she never did.

Finally, he took slow steps toward the door. That was it. It was over. He turned the doorknob with a shaky hand and walked out the door.

He was every bit as out of breath as he had been when he'd arrived.

Selina was wandering around the third floor corridor with her sketch pad. She needed some alone time. The entire first half of this term she had been struggling with her crush on her Quidditch Captain, this much she knew. But after she had seen him at the lake with Jacob and assaulting that poor Hufflepuff she was sure that her crush was gone. The two had moved on, become friends even and now she could formulate sentences in front of him. However, the other day in Simon's impromptu lesson she found herself sticking up for him. When he looked at her with his older brother grin she blushed again. She knew that he was attractive, that was what had drawn the little second year to have her crush on him in the first place. Now though she could feel that he crush was still there... it had indeed not been left behind and thrown away like she had hoped.

So now she needed some serious alone time. Work through some things with her sketch pad. Growing up whenever she needed to work through anything she would draw or play the flute. And no one in their right minds wanted to listen to the flute, so the sketch pad it was. As she looked for a quiet place to go and draw she saw that the Trophy Room was indeed empty and quiet.

She grinned to herself and entered the room. Sitting down beside a trophy case she flipped open her pad and started to draw. Her face was already starting to loosen up and she could feel that she was calming down from all of her stress about Simon. He was after all seventeen... what was she thinking?

No, he knew she wasn't completely agreeing with him, but he knew it was for the best. And she should know it was. Then again, he'd better stop mentioning it, because it seemed that no matter what he said, Kurumi was still going to say that she'll be alright with whatever he mentioned, without really being alright.

That was space and time was for.

Yes, time, he added that just now.

He tried very hard to look away, especially after listening to her voice, because he could fail at not speaking again, and it was fairly obvious that both had spoken enough. He had wished with all his heart that Lexi had been wrong, but Aparecium made it all happen for him, eh?

Yeah, brilliant.

Treyen still nodded, and only looked up when he heard the sound of steps walking away. "Goodbye, Kurumi." It was only a whisper, because he was still looking down.

Polyjuiced as Simon Bennett

JacobSimon moved down the hall, stumbling because he wasn't used to the body... and bigger feet that Simon had. Much Bigger Feet! After another wasted 3 minutes JacobSimon finally made it to the Trophy room.

He entered through the door, and closed the door behind him. Yup, this was gonna be fun. But when he looked behind the case where he was sure he'd left the cage. But it was empty. Wait! Someone must have found it, or his sources were wrong and the cage had been empty from the start... but that couldn't be, his sources were reliable... For the most part. There were some circumstances where they weren't, but he'd overlook that.

JacobSimon searched the room, hoping to find it. It couldn't have gotten free or this place would have looked like a disaster area already. He swore loudly as he put his hand to rub his head, his hair was surprisingly shorter... or right, He was Simon.

Selina jumped when she heard the door of the Trophy Room close. Her eyes peered up from her sketch pad to see Simon snooping around the Trophy Room. She slammed her sketch pad closed when she noted that the object of her sketch was now standing right in front of her. A blush crept up on her face and she could feel the sketch pad burning underneath her finger tips. Of all of the people she did not want to see right now Simon was at the top of her list. If her blush wasn't apparant enough when she stood up she got a better look of his face. She could feel her fingers wrap tightly around the sketch pad as if to protect her secret and whispered, "Simon, um, what exactly are you looking for, Captain?"

Part of her wanted to run out of the room. Him being here was she was sketching him and trying to figure out how to rid him from her system was no longer proving affective with him in the room.

JacobSimon kept looked behind cases and shelves as he attempted to find the missing niffler. But then he realized. It couldn't be in here, it would have been destroying the place, and it couldn't have escaped, or the place still would have been destroyed. So only one option remained, his sources had failed him by not getting him a niffler, and now his whole plan to destroy Simon's reputation was collapsing.

Suddenly a voice came from in the room. Damn it. He wanted to be seen, not conversed with. And the voice had said Simon's name... so now he had to reply. "Uhm... Hi." he said, completely failing at an impression of Simon's slightly deeper voice. "Have you seen a niffler around here?" oh, it was that girl. The kid on Simon's team. Now he was really screwed.

Selina pressed her sketch pad to her chest and shook her head no, "A niffler? No... what do you need with a niffler anyway?" It did not sound like the type of thing that Simon would do. Then again Simon was a mystery to her in many ways. So she didn't expect to know everything about him. He was quiet enough that he oozed an allure of mystery. It had always been a part of him that had struck the young girl.

She tucked a strand of hair out of her eyes and behind her ear. With a clear vision she took a step forward to get a better look at Simon- it looked like Simon. Maybe she was just being paranoid. "Simon" She said taking a step forward, "are you okay?"

JacobSimon still looked around ready to jump it if it crossed by... if his sources hadn't lied to him that is. "Oh it's um... It's nothing. Just a loose creature from The NEWT exams." wait Simon was taking those, right? Yeah. P it seemed like a pretty good lie. but his voice still sound very unSimon like

She had then stepped closer to him, and JacobSimon stepped back, even though he looked exactly like Simon, he still wanted to keep distance from those who knew the boy best.

Was he okay? Come on Jacob, you've got this. How could you make it sound like your voice should be sounding off. "I'm fine. Just a little stressed from the exams." yup, and Jacob could say the same for himself.

but he needed to get out of here... Now!

Hurt smacked across Selina's face as Simon took a step back from her. She was certain that he didn't know about her crush on him, so what other reason would he have in stepping away. He had always referred to her as his little sister lion, and although the nickname did hurt he had never stepped away from her before. What had caused the change in heart.

Realizing that the hurt was still etched upon her face she stepped away from him and said, "Sorry..." Then he gave some excuse about exams and Selina was genuinely surprised. She clenched on tighter to her sketch pad in the hopes to keep anyone from seeing its contents and said, "Are you sure about the NEWTS? You've been studying for them for ages. You didn't seem nervous before."

Jacob didn't know if that was curiosity of suspicion in her voice but he didn't like it. This was getting tense, and he had to go, before his time was up and his plot was completely ruined. Jacob looked down at the watch, which he just realized he forgot to switch with Simon... but no one paid attention to the type of watch the Quidditch Captains wore, did they?

Well Jacob decided he wouldn't stay to find out. He quickly grabbed the cage from the ground. "Yeah, studying helps. But those darned exams still get to anyone." Jacob knew this. He remembered the countless hours of trying to memorize the names of the different Goblins in the Goblin rebellion. One stood out clearly in his mind. Swankle the Stinky. Jacob almost felt like laughing, before he realized that he definitely needed to get out.

"Sorry. I've got to go, before the proctor gets angry." Cause Simon would care about something like that right?

He grabbed the cage, and moved out of the room. He put a hand up in a good-bye manner and said "See-ya..." crap, he forgot the girls name. She was on Simon's team... Simon wouldn't forgot something like that. But it didn't matter. He put his arm down before opening the door once again and moving down the hall.

He was gone and had forgotten her name. For some reason her mind could not process that sentence. They had known each other for two years and she had been on his team for both of those two years and in that time she had NEVER seen him forget her name. But the most shocking part of all was that he had forgotten her name and just left without a proper goodbye. Maybe the Simon she had seen down at the lake that day was the real Simon. Maybe he was arragont and self-centered and flimsy like Jacob Blunt and she had never wanted to admit it to herself. Maybe she was wrong about him.

Why did she care? She knew that now that he was getting toward the end of his final year at Hogwarts it was apparent that he didn't real care about her in any way, that the little sister lion was just something he said because perhaps he didn't even know her name. And that her little crush on him was so stupid on her part. She never should have let her admiration for his ability as Captain grow into her first crush. It had, in many ways, given her more grief than a gitty feeling most girls had when they had a crush. Then again most little girls don't get their first crush on a seventeen year old.

But despite all of that she had at least thought that he had the common decency to know her name. Her name, 6 letters, three syllables, one word. And he didn't even know it.

For some reason that made her very sad and she couldn't place why. She bit back the tears and walked toward the door. Her finger tips let her sketch pad hit the ground with a thud before she shut the door behind herself.

Once she was gone all that was left in the Trophy Room was a silence and a sketch pad.

Simon had had enough of polyjuice, books and spells which for anyone who knew him well was an off occurance. Well maybe not the polyjuice, that was an experience he wasn't sure he ever wanted to repeat. But when one had been taking classes and studying round the clock for the most important exams of a Hogwart's student, after a while there would come the time that one had to escape. The seventh year had decided to take a walk, his steps eventually taking him to the third floor and stepping into the trophy room. A room he had spent little time in curiously other then with class the year before and when he had first became captain as if to see where his predecessors had ended up.

He started to walk around, his steps slow and meadering and he stopped every once and a while to look at a trophy or two, spotting the Gryffindor batch including the house cup from the last year. Simon smiled at the thought, reaching out to briefly touch as if confirming it to memory. When he stepped back he almost started his slow journey again when he spotted something on the floor. An eyebrow raised, the captain moved closer before leaning down to pick it up.

A sketch pad?

What was it doing here...he mused to himself, looking around as if he expected to spot its owner. Seeing as there was no one in the room but himself, he turned it over in his hand looking for evidence to who it might belong so he could see about returning it to the head of house at least. Simon struck out a second time and after a few moments deliberation, opened the pad up with some hesitation, not want to butt into anyone's business. It was then when he spotted Selina's name in the inside cover which was a mixed blessing; an easy find but a feeling of invasion causing him to quickly close it before moving to leave the trophy room.
