Jared straightened up. "You did fine last year, Nika," he said, giving the Gryffindor a faint smile. She had looked less than fine in the final, last term, but that didn't mean she had done less than fine.

Him? Still alive. He hadn't been devoured by a 5X-rated creature yet, at any rate. "Not bad."

And young Alexia from Gryffindor.

"It's good to know you like it, Lexi." Students tended to be better at learning, if comfortable.

It seemed the students now trickling in were, for the most part, familiar faces. The thought was comforting, because he could at least predict the kind of mischief that might be cooked up, as a result of their... efforts? Efforts.

Yes, he'd accepted that a lesson without some form of drama, could not happen. Not, at least, in his lifetime.

"Good day, Eino, Simon. Had a good summer, I trust?"

Jared hadn't factored ladies who might not be able to keep their balance, despite the charms, into the equation. He moved, but it seemed the Ravenclaw was back on her feet - or rather, in a seat - without his help.

"Fine, there?" he asked, not unkindly.

Professor Jared. He couldn't say that students calling him that, instead of Professor Disco and D-Man, wasn't progress.

"Not too bad," he grinned.

Did 'not too bad' describe certain kinds of feelings that had chosen to plague him, of late? He'd have to look into that.

Had the Badger had too much sugar, this morning? Jared grinned. "I should expect it to." It had taken a bit of work. "How are your prefect duties coming along, Prefect Lovegoods?"

Text Cut: Hello's

The classroom had begun to fill, now. There seemed to be more simultaneous greetings than he could count, being directed at him. Quite a babble of voices and confusion, really, considering that some of the students had decided to slide into the classroom.

"Hello, hello. Had a good summer, all of you, I hope?"

It seemed two of last year's Charms Stars had stepped into the room, one after the other. Jared gave both girls a nod.

"Good morning, Selena, Helena."

...

"Hello there, Vashti." The yelling? "It's fine." He scratched his chin. "I didn't expect the rink to give the students trouble." Perhaps it hadn't been such a good idea, after all?

So the Little Human, who looked less little than she had last term, had made it to class, after all.

"Well, I am amazing," he said, grinning lazily

...

At least she wasn't giggling. Or ogling. Or attempting to hug him.

"There aren't going to be any ice wolves, Miss..." Miss? The point was, there weren't going to be any ice wolves and, if there had been, Jared had a feeling he might have had to be more concerned about protecting them from her, than about protecting her from them. "I'm not too sure about the tangerine, though."

Just saying.

And young Kurumi from Gryffindor.

"I don't think so, Kurumi," Jared said, his smile genuine. "But that does sound like an interesting idea."

....

"Treyen." Jared resisted the urge to grin.

Jared gave the Slytherin who had just curtsied a faint smile and, as she sat down, noticed... Rae?

....

Okay. Breathe, Jared, breathe.

He gave her a little nod.

Jared glanced at his watch. Given the general size of the classroom, it didn't seem to have filled up; but the class area itself had, and it was almost time to start. He might as well begin the lesson now.

"If everyone has settled down... who can tell me what a charm is?"

OOC: Class has officially begun. From this point onwards, please don't RP your charrie arriving late. Just pretend [s]he was there, all along. IC chaos is always expected, but please don't go overboard with the chatter between the students. Aaand. Creative and fun answers are welcome. ^_^

"A charm is more than just a simple spell," Kimalia smiled while raising her hand at the first question, "It's said to be more like an enchantment, that requires a great amount of 'wanting' to be successful." So far so good, she hoped.

hjhm 06-03-2011 03:14 PM

Jonathan raised his hand "A charm is some sort of enchantment to bewitch something into behaving something it isn't suppose to behave." Jonathan said. He surely had read his book, well, just the first 4 pages. Nothing to boast since it's just the basics. "Charms enables a certain person to laugh or cry or behave differently than it is suppose to and as for things it can be levitated, change it's appearance or possibly disappear." he added.

Simon looked at the Professor and raised his hand before saying. "Professor a Charm is something that comes out of your wand." Simon smiled. "Though sometimes if your angry you can make a charm happen without using your wand." Simon then thought of something. "Or do you mean Charm as in the way you smile because people say you charmed them and that's why they fell in love with you."

Now that description was really funny... Jonathan couldn't help but laugh at that. Not that he was opposing or anything. Truly the professor is charming. He looked at the guy and gave a thumbs up. Now that deserves some extra points.

laurange 06-03-2011 04:07 PM

Salina hugged her robe closer to her. It was very, very cold. She heard the professor ask a rather simple question. Or at least, it should be.

'What is a charm?'

After a few moments of thought, she raised her hand and said, "A charm is any spell that alters the nature of an object, causing it to act abnormally without changing its appearance. A spell that changes an objects appearance would be Transfiguration."

LilFox06 06-03-2011 04:35 PM

What was charm? Carter looked to the right and left of him. Apparently it was a new haircut. He wondered how likely it would be to 'accidently' slip on ice all the way out the door. Testing the ground below him he decided it wasn't very likely. (There was just fresh snow below him.)

Sighing he raised his hand, "A charm is something that isn't transfiguration." he offered. Sure... it didn't really answer the question, but at least he said something different.

Quick Quotes Quill 06-03-2011 04:50 PM

'Charms is the class that teaches how to develop incantations for the uses of bewitchment', Gwendolyn answered.

'Moreover, Charms is kind of.... a type of ....magic spell that gives an object new and unexpected properties.', she tryed once again.

Alfie glanced around herself with wide blue eyes, not expecting all of these immediate responses, all varying around what was quite obviously the right answer. She looked to the Professor for a moment, who seemed to be allowing all of these responses flood in, before staring down at the large book that was on her table. Oh man, when did everyone else get so amazing at Charms?! True, it was only the first question, but still... To her, it seemed very impressive. And though Alfie could be pretty intelligent, the smarts had never kicked in with Charms. Unfortunately. She opened her book as quietly as possible but it still made a large "thud" noise before she began flipping through the pages.

Presley heard a book thud loudly against a table, and she looked toward the source of the sound. It was Alfie! The girl she'd met at breakfast. Presley gave her a small wave, and turned her attention back to the lesson. Everyone was saying the same thing, and it was bugging Pres. "It's an everyday spell you use commonly," she announced with frustration, forgetting to raise her hand. Not that she was brilliant at charms, she was just sick of the same answers. Plus, the fidelius charm didn't give anything unusual properties. Well, sort of, but mostly it averted other's eyes.

Rachel was confused, a charm was a thing that you used every day, commonly but then you might use it with out knowing it, she knew that, but the trouble was putting it into words, "A charm is a spell that you use each day commonly, sometimes without knowing it," she said, raising her hand, she glanced around the room and saw Presley, she waved timidly, and looked back to the class.

Presley spooted Rachel, and inconspicously scooted over to the empty seat next to her best friend. "Hey, Rach," she whispered.

Selina was taken aback a little by his question. What was a Charm? Well a charm was... well, what was a charm really? She had been performing them without ever really stopping to think what they were, "Professor they are a type of enchantement. What they do is they make an object that the charm is performed on act unususal to the specific object. I guess you could say that it doesn't really change much, just performs the unexpected."

i-am-thorr 06-03-2011 05:47 PM

Rebecca raised her hand to answer Professor Descoteaux's question. "A charm is a type of spell that changes something for a certain period of time or until the charm is broken, she said, certain that she was correct or at least close. "I think..."

Uncle Moose 06-03-2011 05:57 PM

Oakey put his hand up in the air and answered Professor, a charm is a spell that causes an object to act differently then what it normally does. Some charms may only last for a moment while some can last for some time. The ones that do are usually called bewitched.

A charm? What was it? Ehhhh. The question was so simple, and that was what made it so hard. God. Merlin. Poo. She knew she should of read the text book, but she'd gone "noooo, I don't need to do that". Great. She put up her hand, a charm is a spell that is designed to make the world around you better, or simpler?

After all, it was a "charm"

Isabella Thought Of Her answer And Raised Her Hand . " Professor, a Charm Is An Enchantment That Makes Things Do Stuff That They Would Not Usually Do . For example A Hover Charm or Alohamora . " Isabella Said .

She Loved Charms. It wasn't Her Favorite Subject But she was Really Good At Charms at Least Better Then Anyone in Her family . Finishing Her Answer She Waited For a Reply From The Professor .

MagicGlitter 06-03-2011 07:24 PM

Ariella raised her hand excitedly. Charms was her absolute favorite subject...she had read so much about it over summer. "Professor, a charm is a type of enchantment. It makes an object do something....let's say...unusual. Or uncommon," she said. "It can cause a variety of results, from levitation to the changing of the object's color."

Trish 06-03-2011 07:26 PM

Penny thought for a few minutes about the question...."Uhm..Charms!" tapping her pencil against her bottom lip..

Then with her hand in the air, said tentatively "Uhm, er, Professor I think a Charm is kinda like a spell that causes a thing to act like it normally wouldn't act".."Like making something fly that wouldn't normally fly !" ..

Hoping that made sense...

Samira Malfoy Potter 06-03-2011 07:45 PM

Samira raised her hand. "A charm is a spell or incantation that causes an object or person to act abnormally, or make them do something they usually wouldn't. For example an extension charm, or a shrinking charm."

Elektra looked over at Selina and Elektra just look clueless. Oh how she was big enemies with Charms. Why she didn't understand it was still a mystery, but hopefully....just HOPEFULLY she would get the hang out Charms. Until then...she was going to just listen to her two friends very carefully and just write down everything they said.

Despite the fact that she still felt terrible (even though she'd been given a pain potion and a Pepperup Potion recently), Sierra tried her hardest to pay close attention to Professor D. Whatever his name was. She'd sat in his classroom all last school year, and she still hadn't managed to figure out the man's name.

...and why did it seem that the first question in the first Charms class of the school year was always the same? She guessed it had to be that way for the first years. She wouldn't really know, though. This was only her second year, so she didn't exactly have many years to compare. She raised her hand. "A charm causes something to...well, do something that it normally doesn't," she explained, though she was pretty sure he'd gotten that by now. She figured she was about the twentieth student to say that.

ArianaBlack 06-04-2011 02:13 AM

Nika looked around and raised an eyebrow. Well that questions shouldn't be too hard. But how exactly can one define a charm. "It's magic... that allows us to make objects erm-- do things?" Well it was the best answer she could come up with at the moment.

itsjustjesse 06-04-2011 04:39 AM

Kyle had slipt into the classroom earlier without a word - and had now decided to speak. "Well, Professor a charm can be a spell that is believed to have magical properties - with that said, a charm is sometimes viewed as more of an art of sorcery than of magic it self. That is because the charm itself can be viewed as the consciousness manipulation or in other more - er simple? words, the autosuggestion to achieve a desired result." As Kyle spoke she took out her quill, note pad, parchment - everything the class would most likely need. The first of which, a wand.

"Some examples that have - what I would consider easily manipulated and - er - desired, results are point me, Accio, and Alohamora" she smiled over to the professor, eager to get ready for classes. She was excited, and actually rather loved Charms.
