When he went on about further practice she took down prolific notes. Then she went to the front of the room and grabbed the burin. Returning to her desk she went back to her block of wood. Putting on her gloves and goggles she began to chant and carve, "raidho raidho raidho, r r r r r r r r r, ru ra ri re ro, rudh radh ridh redh rodh, or er ir ar ur, r r r r r r r r r." The rune then like magic was doing what he said it would. She watched and carved in awe. After she was done she sat back and admired her work. When she was satisfied she raised her hand and gestured that she was ready for him to evaluate her work. |

She craned her neck in order to get a better view of the objects in the box Professor Truebridge had pulled from the cupboard. Burins, he called them, objects that they were apparently going to use to carve into their wood. Sierra was a little unsure about having the strength to carve something into a piece of wood with a tool, but she guessed that maybe she'd get so into her chanting that she really wouldn't realize how much effort her arms and elbows were putting into the task. At least the professor had ensured them that they wouldn't saw off a finger or something. On that note, Sierra adjusted her goggles and secured her gloves, getting herself ready for using the burin. After retrieving her burin, Sierra steadied her piece of wood and positioned her tool. "eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz (iwaz iwaz iwaz) ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu e e e e e e e e e" ...she chanted, her burin moving along the wood. She paused halfway through, her hand feeling as if it needed a little break before starting up again. She eyed her rune, fairly pleased with what she saw. She started the chant again, carefully moving her burin along as she thought about what the rune meant for her and what its presence in the wood would accomplish. Determination...succeeding...changing her mind about Ancient Runes... Several thoughts drifted through her mind as she carved the final line into the wood. Raising her hand, she said, "Professor Truebridge?" |

Taking a deep breath she practised once and then started with her poiece of wood.Ohhh this was exciting.Hehe. "jera jera jera j j j j j j j j j j j jur jar jir jer jur jo ja ji je ju j j j j j j j j j j j j" Ohh this looked nice.Hehe very good. |
SPOILER!!: proffie She got up and walked over to his desk, picked up her board and a burin and walked back to her seat. She wasn't so well at the other part but how hard could it be to chant or sing an incantation so that the rune would be carved onto the board. The more she thought about the hard it seem to be. Plus she didn't want everyone to here her singing voice and be suprised at how good she was. She just sat back and thought for a moment. The little part between her brow became wrinkled and her eyes looked unfocused. She was in deep thought. Finally after a moment of two she had an idea. Shaking her head to clear her mind. She would just say it and not sing it or not to loud anyways, besides everyone else was busy with there own horrible singing. Clearing her throat she began. kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn She watched as the burin began to carve the rune symbol into her board smoothly as though it was just meant to be there. She was glad that had worked and that no one heard her singing. "Professor, I think Im ready," she said raising her hand so that he would know who had spoke to him. |

Sweet! No more having to cause mass destruction with her wand. Mia tucked it back into her bag because she didn't have one of those holster thingy's and really she was liable to cause damage to herself if she did. She listened carefully as the Professor spoke and gave instructions on what to do. When he had finished speaking, Mia got up and went and got herself a bruin and brought it back to her desk. Now carving was something she had done before. Of course she usually did it without having to chant anything at the same time but she felt more confident with this then she did using her wand. Placing the piece of wood in front of her, Mia held the burin at a slight angle, making sure that the sharp edge of the burin was against the wood. Taking a deep breath, she moved the burin along the wood while chanting her rune. "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th..." She repeated this method a few times until she was satisfied that she could see a definite carving in her wood. Yes she definitely liked this method better. But just to make sure that she had done this right, Mia raised her hand in the air. "Professor Truebridge, is this right?" |

Draven put his wand away as the professor explained how to create runes without the use of it. As Truebridge placed the box out Draven went up and to grab the engraving tools needed to perform the next task. Draven then put his goggles back on and began to use the burin and then began the incantation of the spell, "Algiz, Algiz, Algiz" while watching the rune appear on the wood. He then skipped over the wood a bit and practiced some more, "Thurisaz, Thurisaz, Thurisaz" as the rune continued to appear before him. Draven wanted some more wood to practice on to be sure he had it down, "Professor? Could i please have another piece of wood?" he asked politely. |

Raven ready, wore the gloves, and also the goggle, now the chisel place in the wood, he place it carefully at very near in the rune he just made earlier using wand. Raven begun the chant, isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i He say it chant slowly, very carefully the --the burins have blade --meaning it's totally make carving --as Raven say the chant, he notice the burins, magically cut the wood. "ohh, it's more easy than the other method" he said happily. he study the two rune in the wood, it's identical, basically identical |
Audrey picked up her wood. She was concentrating so hard she felt her head hurt and her grip tighten around the wood, but none of that mattered. The only thing that mattered to her at this moment was carving Ansuz symbol into this piece of wood correctly She chanted : "ansuz ansuz ansuz aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw s s s s s s aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw" She felt the energy surround her hand and the wood and saw the symbol for Ansuz appear on her wood. Audrey could not hide her excitement as she raised her hand. "Is this correct Professor?" |

It was simply how carving worked; you could say what you wanted, but it would still come out however you yourself carved it. "Can you not simply carve the rune with the burin or a pocket knife or other sharp device and get the same effect as long as your intention is there? Even paint it?" |

"No, I, I'm sorry, I did not think to ask them. JP has already offered to show me around, though, so they needn't help me," she said as confidently as she could, convinced that her voice sounded as shaky and uneven as she felt. After Professor Truebridge began answering others' questions, she released the air that she'd kept inside her lungs practically since entering the classroom. She watched and listened intently as he introduced the burins, then went and grabbed one, along with rather diminutive piece of wood. Once she returned to her seat, she turned her book to the chapter he'd mentioned, relieved Truebridge did not admonish her for being late-or for speaking during class, for that matter. After sliding her goggles (an old pair of Henry's she'd brought, naturally) down off her hair to her eyes and slipping on the gloves required, she began chanting the Galdr listed in the textbook-whispering, really, as she was very quiet and her voice shook as if she were about to cry-and pressing the chisel into the wood. "thoor-ee-saws thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th " |
Patroclus couldn't help but giggle, yes giggle, as he listened to the other students start chanting their Galdr. It was just plain funny. With a grin on his face the lion slide out of his chair and headed to the front of the room, where he collected a fresh piece of wood and a carving Burin, with a nod to Truebs. Arriving back at his desk, he opened his textbook to chapter Seven and started to read. So I must have intent, whilst pushing the Burin across the wood into the shape of the Rune, whilst chanting the Rune...easy right? We will see.... Placing the Burin to the wood, Patroclus began to push it across the grain, and started to chant; "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do..."With his eyes focused on the book, chanting what he read, Patroclus had to hope that his intention would be strong enough to guide the burin correctly. ".......dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z" Once he had chanted the whole galdr, Patroclus could help but laugh, he must have looked so odd, but hey so did everyone else! "Professor, is this correct?" |

... no wait, did the Professor say theres one thing missing? Salander looked on curiously as Truebridge brought out the box and drew out-- ... an ice pick. An ice pick that seems to have been used as a doorstop way too many times. Huh. The Slytherin lad took a burin out and examined it, rolling it between his fingers before setting it down on a new wooden piece. His eyes shifted left and right-- people chanting like they're in some sort of trance. Shrugging, he set the bruin against the wood and started the chanting of his own.... (Tiwaz Rune) "tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz t i i i i i r r r r r tu ta ti te ter tor tur tar tir ter tor ot et it at ut (Tyr Tyr) T i i i i i r r r r r" He had to chuckle as the chant ended. He thought people sounded funny but it seemed more ridiculous to hear himself do the same thing. He blew the shavings off the small wooden palette and has gotten the vertical line down-- not quite as deep or as clear as the way he did with his wand. Hmm, maybe wand way is better..... |
sorry if I missed anyone quote-wise SPOILER!!: Magical Soul Had she said something about spirits? Truebridge figured whatever it was had not been addressed to him so he continued around the class until, when he looked back he could see the young girl had simply used her wand. "You are only cheating yourself." He pointed out. "And you are more than welcome to use your wand to carve your chosen runes on the table if you prefer." Professor Truebridge gave her an even sort of look and then walked past. SPOILER!!: Luinevaug Truebridge approached and took a look at the practice carving. "Good work. You may practice a bit more or start carving the table using whichever method you prefer." SPOILER!!: Zebragirl A question? Professor Truebridge turned his attention toward Emily. "They are muggle tools and charmed, yes. You're doing well. Continue practicing until you are ready and then you can move on to the table." SPOILER!!: sweetpinkpixie "Good work Kurumi. Choose whichever method you prefer, or mix it up, its up to you. And you can start carving into the table." SPOILER!!: Canoir Greengrass Ethan Truebridge approached the young Slytherin and eyed her work. "Good." He approved. SPOILER!!: vijaya "You have?" Truebridge approached Lucy and ran his fingers over the rune she'd carved. "Good work." And she seemed confident too, that was good. SPOILER!!: Random_Me_Ly_ And another hand up. Truebridge checked and nodded. "Good." SPOILER!!: Zoerawrr "Yes. Cold Chisel." Truebridge agreed without elaborating. He watched Jake for a moment and then, when he asked another question he nodded. "I used my wand." He usually did. "And yes, it was me. You're ready if you think you are." He agreed. SPOILER!!: Poisonedbyyou Truebridge approached Charisa and examined her work. "Much improvement. I think you're ready to start on the table." SPOILER!!: fanficfanatict At the raised hand and gesture, Truebridge approached to see how the little Gryffindor was doing. "Good." He commented. "A very nicely carved Raidho. Which method did you prefer? You may begin on the table when you are ready." SPOILER!!: Anna Banana "You're done?" Truebridge queried and then approached to see for himself. "Good work. You're making excellent progress already. You're ready to work on the table I think." SPOILER!!: MissFeenella "Very nice Jera." It was very well carved. Truebridge nodded approvingly. SPOILER!!: mellamaet Truebridge walked past another Slytherin and listened to her while making note of her progress. Good. She was ready too as long as she concentrated and felt herself to be ready. SPOILER!!: Pinky Not wanting to disturb Lexi mid-chant, Truebridge simply nodded at her. Good work. SPOILER!!: JeshieRAWR The boy was chanting appropriately but Truebridge felt he could be focusing a little more. He walked past and when he caught the boy's eye he nodded. Keep it up. Keep working. SPOILER!!: Emily_Potter "Stop for a moment." Truebridge suggested, noting the results were a little wonky. "Focus and try to relax a little bit. You will have better results. Remember to keep in mind the rune you are carving and its magical associations." He encouraged quietly. SPOILER!!: Jean1210 He walked past the Ravenclaw boy, noting that he was intent on his carving. They were all taking to this rather well, weren't they? SPOILER!!: lilithpotter "Nicely done." Truebridge commented once he had gone over to take a look. "I think you're ready for the table." SPOILER!!: aussiegirl Truebridge went back over to Mia and nodded after taking a good look at her work. "Yes it is. Good work Mia. You appear to be a natural at this." He told her quite seriously. SPOILER!!: Vargaroth "You certainly can." Truebridge agreed. "Practice makes perfect." He levitated a piece of wood over to Draven. SPOILER!!: top94a "Good work. I think you are ready to work on the table now. You can choose which method you'd prefer to use." SPOILER!!: aidan "Very nice Ansuz." Truebridge commented, examining the practice piece. "Good work." He told the girl sincerely. SPOILER!!: Tazenhani Never one to be bothered by questions, Truebridge nodded. "As with any spell, the incantation is important particularly while learning. You can, for instance, practice a wand movement and not make magic. Likewise you can carve the wood and have a rune carved into the wood, but it will not be magically charged." He paused. "Much like non-verbals, such things come with practice and in general won't be as powerful without the sound elements of the runes you are carving." As for the painting part, well. They would have to do that in order to seal in the magic. That would come later. SPOILER!!: scarsandtetris Truebridge said no more on the 'being late' issue and observed the Ravenclaw girl begin her work. It took him a bit but eventually he worked out she was experiencing some sort of emotional dilemma. Without saying a word, Truebridge placed an unopened chocolate frog next to her textbook and continued walking around the room. Encouragement, perhaps. SPOILER!!: PattyH. "Yes. Good work Patroclus." Truebridge barely registered the laughter. And certainly had no clue of the reason as he didn't find anything in particular to be amusing. But then, he hardly ever did. SPOILER!!: Steelsheen Truebridge glanced at Salander's work for a moment before addressing the class. "Alright for those of you who feel they are ready, you may begin to carve the table. Please complete three runes by the end of the lesson and remember they need to be runes which you think will be beneficial in the classroom environment." He stopped at the front of the room and faced the class. "Some of you may have noticed some difficulties with carving, and there is one thing that will certainly help." One thing that he'd intentionally not mentioned because oftentimes it was easier to experience it than to hear it. "Carving against the wood is easier than carving with it. Carving against the wood also means that the cuts you make will not close up again over time, that is why the runes are made up of diagonal and vertical lines, as in general the surface used for carvings, one would place the grain on the horizontal in front of them." And most of them had done so while practicing without even realising it. "Please keep this in mind as you start on the table, using whichever method you preferred. If you wish to practice some more then that is fine too." ooc: now you can RP carving runes into the table, using either the Intaglio spell and your characters wand or with the Burin tool and a galdr. Have fun and don't get too crazy now, we're on the homestretch and we're entirely convinced Tate would be displeased at sudden, random or unfortunate death. ;) |

She twirled the burin in her hand. Yep. She totally was. Rising out of the chair, Mia positioned herself so that the wood on the desk was aligned horizontally and she placed her burin at a slight angle, the sharp edge of the burin resting against the wood. With another deep breath, she began to chant the name of the rune while she moved the burin against the desk. "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th..." The desk seemed to be a lot harder than the practice piece of wood but Mia persisted with it. She continued to chant and carve at the same time and after about six goes, she finally managed to complete the first rune. She stood back and looked at her handiwork. http://i952.photobucket.com/albums/a...nethurisaz.jpg Not bad at all. Now to move onto the next one. |
Soooo now it was up fo curve the runes into the table.Ohhh thiis was huge.Gladly it had worked very well last time so the blonde was going to yuse the last method.Juup that was sooo much fun.And once again she knew why Ancient Runes was her fave subject. It was easy to get and the practising was awesome. So nooo wand using here.Hehe. What rune to use first? Well Jera was her fave one but she couldnt use the same one twice right?!Maybe Dagaz?!Smiling to herself she took a deep breath and began. "dagaz dagaz dagaz d d d d d d d d d d d dog dag dig deg dug do da di de du d d d d d d d d d d d Yaaaay it was curving into the table.Ohhh this was perfect.Beautiful Dagaz rune.So what one would be her next?! |
"Thank you, Professor Truebridge," she smiled picking up her piece of wood to examine her work. Carving against the wood is easier than carving with it? Hm, that was a new way of thinking for sure. Kurumi had always been told that going against the grain made things harder, and not just in terms of carving runes into wood. Kurumi was beginning to like the wizarding world more and more. Going against the so called status quo was a good thing. Being different was equally as important. Smiling to herself, Kurumi set her piece of wood to the side and decided to recarve the three runes she had practiced into her desk. Having carved them once with little trouble, there shouldn't be anything disastrous a second time around, right? Just had to remember to keep her voice calm and in a flowing rhythm. Since she had grown rather fond of the Burin tool and a galdr, Kurumi decided to use that one. "kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn" Kurumi sang as her tool danced across the surface of her desk as if she were painting on a canvas instead of carving. When the sawdust settled, Kurumi brushed over the area to check out her handy work. No lost fingers. No giant holes in the desk. Kenaz was looking rather pretty in the desk. "Professor Truebridge," Kurumi asked looking over her shoulder when she saw him passing by again. "Is it alright if we use Pingo to add some color to the carving?" |
Whoa! They were actually going to carve the table now? Sheesh... Better not make any mistakes... Taking a deep breath, Emmy put her wand to the smooth wood of her table top, and murmured, "Intaglio Gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo..." She went on and on, repeating the incantation dozens of times over until finally, she was satisfied with her result. Looking down, she saw she had carved a perfect 'Gebo' - to the untrained eye, she'd scratched a big fat kiss on her desk, but she, along with everyone else in this classroom would always know it's true meaning. |
Carving the table sounded cool to Dianna's ears and so she placed down her piece of wood and got ready. Dianna positioned her burin tool on the wooden desk. She'll follow the Professor's advice on carving in a slight angle, anyways it might make this task easier. Gulping, Dianna started... "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" She concentrated on her work and didn't let her eyes flicker anywhere else besides her desk. Honestly, she thought she was doing quite well. |

now, now, Isa is for Reflection and reinforcement of magic, Algiz is for protection and Guardian, and the Wunjo is for motivation and completion of task. What next Raven, how do you carving it, what is the sequence, he think. It may be Isa-Wunjo-Algiz or Algiz-Isa-Wunjo, Raven decided it will be the later yes, it must be Algiz-Isa-Wunjo sequence, but before that, there is one things to be clarify first. "Professor, is it okay to use both method, isn't it?, I mean I used the wand method in one rune and using the burins method in the other two" Raven ask. It good to be sure before proceeding in the desk carving. |

One more try on the wood before trying on the table. With her goggles already in position. She placed the burin over the block of wood then began chanting as she went "fehu fehu fehu f f f f f f f f f fu fa fi fe fo of ef if af uf f f f f f f f f" Alas! After all that carving and chanting, she had finally produced a rune that looked good! |
Finally! thought Helena. She could finally carve on the table. Of course, after a lot of practice, the runes looked really good. She took out her wand and started muttering "Intaglio Ansuz" and the rune slowly appeared on the table. Ansuz meant an authority figure, a leader. Well, she always wanted to be the best. Next. "Intaglio Kenaz." Kenaz was for wisdom, creativity - even though she could be extremely creative sometimes - and understanding. Okay, let's try a galdr as well, she thought, taking a burin. She started muttering the galdr for Wunjo, which meant success, achievement of goals and reward. "wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n" It worked! She raised her hand. "Professor? Can I remove the goggles and the gloves if I'm ready?" It's not the way she looked that bothered her, she just didn't feel comfortable wearing them. But anyway, they had to be protected somehow, especially someone clumsy like her. |
Fee tried to carve against the wood with this piece. If it really made it lastr longer that was cool.It was amazing how much you learned once you had joined Hogwarts.Up to the second rune now, seeing she had no problems withn the first one the girl had a good feeling about doing it again. What rune now?Maybe wunjo.Yeahh sounded good. "wunjo wunjo wunjo w w w w w w w w w w w w wun wan win wen won wu wa wi we wo w w w w w w w w w w w w" And tah-dah right next to her jera rune appeared the wunjo rune loking kinda beautiful. This was amazing, really. The desls wrre going to look soo cool when all students finished. |
Katelynn was a bit nervous, but she though she'd have a go. She picked up her wand again, and took a deep breath. "Intaglio Dagaz... Dagaz... Dagaz... Dagaz... Dagaz... Dagaz..." And - there it was! Katelynn felt very exited; she did it! She slowly raised her hand into the air. "Uhm - professor? Is - is it OK that I carved Dagaz into my table?" It properbly would have been better to ask him before.. oh well! "It-it's for happiness, success and positive outcome. Is that correct?" She asked with a faint smile. What was she gonna do if he thought the rune was completely wrong!? oh no, oh no..... |

She practiced some more on the wood, until she felt confident with her work. Now the big question: Burin and galdr or wand? As much as she liked magic, she wanted to practice using the burin as she could carve into her bed with these at home. She adjusted her goggles, took her burin and concentrated on the rune 'Dagaz'. "dagaz dagaz dagaz d d d d d d d d d d d dog dag dig deg dug do da di de du d d d d d d d d d d d" The teacher was right! Carving against the wood was so much easier! The rune looked good! Oh, and the table! Which one should she do now? |

So, after a bit of practice with galdr, and a bit of a better result due to his concentration and attention in having to recite the lines of the chant, he slipped his practice board away and ran his hand over his desk. While the Incantation from his wand seemed to be a bit easier, at least in the form of physical work, the muggle side of him could not help but want to use the burin. He turned the tool around in his fingers a few times as he considered which spot to place his runes. A triangle seemed like the best idea, with one at the top center of the desk and the other two at the bottom corners. That way one could put their work in the middle and, at least in his mind, receive a combination of the magic of all the runes; in the similar way a spider web conveyed vibrations to the center from each of it's extending strands. Placing his burin to the wood at the top of his desk, he began carving, taking note of the progression of the chant in his textbook. "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" One time around didn't seem to extend long enough for him to finish the carving, so he repeated, hoping that it wouldn't be too much of a tongue twister that all that came out would be a mixture of attempted sounds. It reminded him a great deal of when he was a child and his friends and him would attempt to say a certain word several times fast. At least he had had practice? "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" Removing the burin, he blew gently on the desk to clear the shavings from within the grooves of the rune and about it. A small smile touched his lips. It was rough, but a great deal more discernible than his practice runes had been. Tracing his fingers along it, he considered once again what Truebridge had said, and found that his question had not become any more enlightened with the few minutes of carving. Shifting a little in his seat, he tilted his head a little in question. "So, Professor Truebridge, the runes that muggles use...because they do not have the incantation or galdr, they are not magically endowed?" Which seemed a little strange. "They are used a great deal in divination, or is that just a basis of perception?" |

Rarrr. Hmmm... the fact that Truebridge used his wand made Jake a leeeeeeeeettle wary. He liked the idea that they'd been done manually... it kind of enhanced the magic in a way. Ah well... maybe he'd try and carve some in his dormitory. Heh. Taking note of what Truebs said (even though he recalled the bit about the grain anyway from their meeting in Diagon Alley), Jake took his burin and ran his fingertips over the table. Hmmm... the place up the right hand side near the edge was good enough for him. Standing up and kneeling on his chair, Jake poked his tongue out of the corner of his mouth and frowned in concentration as he begain painstakingly carving his rune and chanting the galdr thingy. "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z" When he had a messy-ISH looking bow-tie kind of shape on his table, Jake smiled proudly. He had no lines going WITH the grain of the wood, so it hadn't been too tricky. As he sat back taking a little break, Jake raised his hand. "Can we carved them underneath the table, like on the underside, or on the legs or something?" He had his reasons. |

As the wood levitated to Draven who grabbed it and began to practice some more with the incantations and carving. He was really enjoying this as it was his first time actually practicing magic and especially in a field that he most interested in. "Thurisaz, Thurisaz, Thurisaz" he said again. Finally, after a few more times he felt confident in his ability to perform with the technique. He raised his hand as he signaled to professor Truebridge to come and inspect his work. He was very glad that the professor had taught them how to do it with both the wand and carving tools. He knew his parents would be very proud of him right now. |
Well this is going to be easy. Heather thought. She could use these runes for good fortune almost anywhere. She took out her wand as it was her 'preferred' method. She pointed to her desk. "Intaglio wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo...." She looked at it to make sure it was good. "Intaglio ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz.... Intaglio manaz manaz manaz manaz manaz manaz..." She looked down at her desk and smiled. |

... Hmm, so staring off into space and thinking about runes were two things that definitely shouldn't go together. Or, just shouldn't go together in class that is. Blinking, the Slytherin girl looked down at the wood board in front of her and the...wood carving tool thing...in her hand. Right, might as well get started. Opening her book to chapter seven, her gaze glided down until she found the Thurisaz rune incantation. Man, these things were kinda long. But, what must be done...must be done. Even if everyone sounded silly saying them. Eh, maybe she'll just say it really quietly. "Thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th..." Trailing off, Evelyn pulled back the wood carving tool and gave a quick blow on the wood so the wood shavings would disperse and show her the rune. Well, it didn't look half bad. Carving was just like drawing! Almost. Practice makes perfect. Quote:
Ancient Runes was totally fun. Looking at the two runes she had carved into the wooden board, it seemed that the rune she had used the spell to create looked much better then the one she carved with the burin. On the other hand, she enjoyed carving the rune with the burin more than she did using the spell. Ugh, tough choice. Enjoy carving the runes by hand and hope to Merlin that they come out better than her first try? Or make sure they are carved as perfectly as possible and finish it quickly since she didn't all that much enjoy using the spell? ...Eh. |

Breathing in deeply, she moved aside her piece of practice wood, ready to dive back into concentration. First, the thurisaz rune that she had been practicing for most of the class. Charisa picked up her burin again and held it over the surface of her desk. Carve against the wood instead of with it. Charisa focused all her attention on carving the rune. And it paid off. "Thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" The rune that resulted was a much prettier sight and truer to what thurisaz should have looked like than her previous tries. Satisfied, Charisa read through the runes and their meanings again, searching for two more runes to carve into the table. |
Selina nodded at the teacher who had liked her work. She could not help but beam at this, but tried to keep it to herself. "Personally, I liked either way. They both do the trick. But if I had to pick, it would be the latter. And thank you sir, I will begin at once." Selina began to carve into the table and did her chant for the raidho. |
She was going to hide her singing or chanting for later. So she pulled out her wand and began to carve the runes into her desk using Intaglio. "Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz" She pronounced it clearly and slowly making the rune appear into the table neatly and with straight edges. |
Burin still in hand, Sierra nodded a few times in reply to what the professor had told her. Table-carving time now! She gently moved her wood off to the side and positioned the burin just above a clear spot on the table. With her open book on the left side and her burin in her right hand, Sierra paused and studied her text for a few moments before beginning. ...and a few seconds later, "eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz (iwaz iwaz iwaz) ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu e e e e e e e e e..." Of course she'd started with this rune. After all, it'd been the one she had been working hard on perfecting all along. The first rune she'd thought of when it came to carving something that would be beneficial to her in this class. Eihwaz stood for defense, protection, change, and and transformation, and thoughts of those words and their meanings filled her head as she carved. "eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz (iwaz iwaz iwaz) ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə ə iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu e e e e e e e e e," ...she continued, until finally a backwards, slanted Z-looking figure was etched into the table. She withdrew her burin and admired her work. Eihwaz---her hope for this class. |

Choosing not to answer that question she was about to get to work when... Quote:
Feeling her hair stand on ends she reached up and tried to put it back in place as she glared at him. Oh, she would so be paying Sal back for this one. Just not now. She didn't want Truebs any more upset with her than he already was. There would be no one to protect him in the common room though. SPOILER!!: Ze Disappointed Professor Reluctantly putting her wand away Marie listened to the next set of directions. Well this didn't sound like fun. She KNEW she wasn't going to like this Galdr business when James was teaching it to her. She also knew there was no way of getting out of doing it either. Going up to the front she grabbed that poky looking thingy and went back to her table. Now to figure out what it was she had to mumble while gouging this thing into that piece of wood. Thumbing through her slightly wet book she found the page with the incantations. Oh great. Not only was she going to have to physically dig into that stupid wood but now he was going to sound like a fool while doing it. Could this class get any better here? Putting the goggles and gloves back on she got to work gouging out the rune while chanting that silly little incantation... galdr thing or whatever it was. perthro perthro perthro pu pa pi pe po purdh pardh pirdh perdh pordh po pe pi pa pu p p p e e e r r r th th th r r r o o o After giving it a couple of tries she was delighted when Truebridge said they could move on... SPOILER!!: Professor T Oh crap... They had to make THREE runes. Why? Just WHY? Oh, but they could use whatever method they wanted. Well that was a no brainer. Intaglio of course. Pulling her wand back out of its holster Marie knew this was something she would be able to do now. Wand work was SO much easier here than physically carving into the wood. Moving everything off her section of the table she began. Touching her wand to the table, concentrating on what she wanted she started the incantation. "Intaglio... Perthro, Perthro, Perthro." Watching her wand move across the table she almost jumped for joy when she was finished. She had done it. She had actually carved a rune into the table. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...erthroRune.jpg Sitting back she admired her work... until it hit her. She still had to do two more runes. Crud! Now what two should she do? |
Quote:
When it came do doing more physical work, she jumped up and retrieved the materials she would need, including another piece of wood, then returned to her seat between her two best friends. Truebridge certainly seemed worried about their safety what with all the charms and safety equipment, though it shouldn't be too surprising considering how easily the students at this school bruised. After flipping to chapter seven, and decided what rune she wanted to start on, she placed her wood in front of her and started her manual labor. kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn This was a tad more difficult than when she'd worked with her wand as she had to keep the wood in place, chant, and carve at the same time. Occasionally her burin slipped, catching her fingers a few times, but thankfully all the safety measures kept any harm from befalling her, and allowing her to continue working on the rune. It looked a little worse than the one she did with her wand, but after practicing a bit more, she seemed to be making progress. Quote:
They could finally work on the table? Sweet. Since she already had the burin in her hand, and she also wanted to practice a bit more with it, she continued to work with her hands on the table, pushing her pieces of wood aside to practice on the table that begged to be carved on. thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th This carving look better than the ones on her wood, but it still was a bit jagged looking. Meh. She didn't stress it. To her the rune was still legible and would hopefully be magical as well. |

After watching the Professor address the class Emily breathed out a sigh of releif and immediately whipped her wand back out. She much preferred the first method. Emily held her wand to the table, she was confident she was ready. Thinking about the magical properties of her rune she began the incantation, tracing the rune on the table with her wand. "Intaglio fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu fehu..." she said as her wand carved out a perfect fehu rune. Emily smiled, when it came to wand work she was very good, not so much with elbow greese though. Emily moved onto her next rune. "Intaglio ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz....." she chanted, again the rune carved into the wood with the tip of her wand. Emily thought long and hard about what her next and last rune would be... so far she had selected fehu because it meant prosperity, promotion, goals, beginnings and power. Which she felt to be important in her final year so that she would be able to make a smooth thransition into life in the wizarding world. Emily had selected the ansuz rune because it represented authority and leadership, a balance between mind and body, success and decissions. Emily would need to make wise decessions throughout the year to ensure that she is successful with her NEWTS. Suddenly Emily had an idea, holding her wand to the table again she said, "Intaglio kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz.....". Emily felt it appropriate to have the kenaz rune as is held magical properties relating to wisdom and insight, solution and enlightenment, creativity and knowledge. As a Ravenclaw she could never have too much knowledge. |

The first witch to become Minister of Magic! So admirable! I didn't even have a card of her before! She glanced at JP, mouthing a question, wondering who had left her the chocolate. Hard at work, Charley hadn't noticed when Professor Truebridge had come over to her. She smiled towards the front of the classroom, hoping the professor would see how much better that had made her feel. She began beaming, though, as he bespoke of carving against the grain of the wood and laying it horizontally in front of oneself, which she had been doing. Focus, discipline, introspection, knowledge, hardship; study aid, self-discipline, concentration in spite of distraction, purging the negative... Charley considered as she ran her fingers over the grooves in the small piece of wood. The divinatory meanings and magical uses of Thurisaz. Maybe that's all I really need. Focus. Keeping this in mind, she repackaged the candy, its frog not yet released, and slid it into her bag, removing her wand and beginning to carve another rune into the upper left corner of her table: Kenaz. It was a relatively simple configuration, requiring only two lines to be carved, and she promptly completed it. She then began on the last required rune, deciding on Jera, one which was not quite so simple, this time in the upper right corner. "Intaglio jera jera jera...." she started, gently running her wand along the tabletop in the shape of the rune. ooc: I know we aren't supposed to RP other characters, but I don't think my insertion of JP's response is too out of order. I do hope it's not, but Jean1210, please tell me if you believe it is. |
Rune 2 Once she had completed carving her first rune, Mia sat down and gave her hand a small shake. Okay doing this by hand wasn't as easy as she had first anticipated and it was making her hand all sweaty as well. She rubbed her hand against her robes, wiping away the stickiness before taking the bruin in hand again. Now to move onto the next rune. Mia wondered if there was any particular places they should carve the runes. She couldn't remember whether Professor Truebridge had said they had to carve the runes in any special order. Again Mia, stood and moved around the desk and placed her bruin against the desk at an angle. Once again she chanted while she moved the bruin along the desk. "mannaz mannaz mannaz m m m a a a a a a n n n mu ma mi me mo mun man min men mon um am im em om mon men min man mun m m m a a a a a a n n n m m m m m m m m m..." Oh, that was a good rune to chant and as Mia repeated her carving and chanting she even threw in a few dance moves to go with it. This time it only took her four goes to get a clear rune into the desk. Once she had finished, Mia stepped back and looked down at her new rune. http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/p...lle/mannaz.gif Perhaps with the next rune she might try using her wand. Maybe she should warn everyone first. |
While Kurumi waited for Professor Truebridge to get around to her question, Kurumi decided to return to her singing and rune carving. Looking over her textbook, Kurumi circled 13 runes that she thought would be useful. 13, wow, that was a lot. Thankfully, she did not come from a culture where 13 is considered an unlucky number. If she had come up with something with a 4 in it then she would be in trouble. Alright, time to get down to work... having already carved the three she had done on her practice piece of wood with little trouble, so she was feeling pretty confident with the remaining ten runes. "fehu fehu fehu f f f f f f f f f fu fa fi fe fo of ef if af uf f f f f f f f f f uruz uruz uruz u u u u u u u u u u u u u u u r r r r r r u u u u u u u u u . . . . . ingwaz ingwaz ingwaz i i i i n n n n g g g g ung ang ing eng ong ong eng ing ang ung i i i i n n n n g g g g" For some reason, that last rune ended up sounding more like a song she had heard from a muggle movie, Sound of Music, but it did have a lovely tone to it. Having carved the rest of her runes, Kurumi dusted off the desk with a quick swish and flick for casting Scourgify and ran her hands over her desk feeling the grooves of her hard work. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's desk Having completed her carving, for now at least, Kurumi took out her parchment to draw a quick sketch of what she had accomplished and added notes to each of them as to why she chose each rune as was written in her textbook. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment |
rune 1 Well, she finally made up her decision. She was going to carve the runes by hand and not with magic. Surprise surprise! Flipping through the runes, her gaze trailed over the words, reading each meaning. She already knew she was going to be using Ansuz and Wunjo but she needed one more. Or more then one depending on what she thought would be best. Most of them, one way or another, could be used for this situation, but she definitely did not have enough time to carve all of those runes by hand before class was over. Unless, she asked to stay after class, but even though Ancient Runes was one of her more likable classes and Professor Truebridge was just plain awesome...there was no way she was going to be staying after class. Finally deciding on four, Evelyn flipped the pages back to chapter seven and locating each of the galdr's. Alright. Wasn't so hard. Just...long. Why did these have to be so long?! "Ansuz ansuz ansuz aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw s s s s s s aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw.." As she chanted the galdr, quite quietly she may add, the Slytherin girl started to carve the rune onto the table, near the edge and a little to her left. Might as well evenly space these things out. Otherwise, it'd look completely random! But when she was finally done, she stopped the chant like song and leaned back away from the table to get a better look at her work. Not bad. Definitely better then the first time she carved using this...carving tool...but not the best either. ...That bugged her. Aw well...It was still fun. |
Emmy gasped. She hadn't heard Professor Truebridge say anything about three runes! Oops... Quickly, she set to work. She decided on the burin method next, "Wunjo wunjo wunjo Wu wa wi we wo Wun wan win wen won Wo we wi wa wu W w w u u u n n n" Amazingly, it worked - she now had what looked like a capital 'P' on her table. One more to go. She went back to her preferred method - Intaglio. Putting her wand to the wood one last time, she intoned, "Intaglio Raidho raidho raidho raidho..." And there it was; a stylised capital 'R' next to the 'X' and 'P'. |

The she stared with her work on rune on the table. Lucy was all very set to curve her runes on the table she was very excited too. As to start she decided on which method would she be using, she was very confused then finally she decided to go with the one she felt was easy for her and decided to curve it using her wand. So she took her wand in her hand and took a deep breath "Hmm so let's start" she said looking at the table and her wand. She pointed her wand on the table and said "Intaglio Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu Fehu" saying that she also concentrated on the result. As this was said, she had completed doing on of her rune. "Ok, so one is done maybe I should go on with the other." So she took her wand and pointed it to the table again and concentrated on the result of the rune and said "Intaglio Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo" saying this she stopped when she saw it was completed. "Hmm, this is done too, maybe now I should call the Professor to show my work." She thought and looked for Professor; she saw professor looking at everyone's work and said "Professor, I've completed it." Saying this she smiled. |
Fail Post! It's late and I need to post before bed! GAH! Patroclus would be the first to admit it, he loved getting positive feedback from Professor, who didn't?? Gladly pushing his wood bit to the side, Patroclus starred at the untouched magnificence that was his and Destiny's table. "It's Craving Time!" Patroclus smiled gleefully, swapping the burin for his wand, the spell had worked much faster for the boy, and he really wanted to master it, so the spell it was! "Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo" Concentrating hard on the capital P shape of the Wunjo rune, Patroclus holding onto his wand very tightly, moved it across the table top, just left of center. As he repeated the rune, and concentrated on the result, he remembered why he was craving Wunjo; 'Achievement, success, completion of tasks.....' Moving his wand with focus and determination, it was with little surprise that before his eyes the Rune of Wunjo had appeared. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...eker/Wunjo.jpg Grinning, Patroclus placed his wand to the right of the center, the side closeted to Destiny, and then once again began to declare the spell, "Intaglio Dagaz Dagaz Dagaz Dagaz Dagaz Dagaz Dagaz" once again his reasoning swelled in his thought, the words mixing with the name of the rune, weaving in and out of one another, 'Clarity, Focus, Awareness, positive outcomes.....' His movements were fluid, the side figure eight seemed to deepen into the wood as he repeated the shape and the words over and over.... http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...eker/Dagaz.jpg It was with his thrid Rune that Patroclus decided he would use the galdr method. And this rune had to be of some significance. Flicking back to Chapter Five, Patroclus found it at once, 'success through partnership....' The rune to signify the teacher student relationship, a joint venture to success. Flipping back to Seven, Patroclus found the correct galdr and began to chant, moving the burin across the wood, inbetween the two other runes, "gebo gebo gebo gu ga gi ge go gub gab gib geb gob og eg ig au ur g a a a f f f f f" It was an easy rune to cave, but it meant alot. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...eeker/gebo.jpg Patroclus was done! SPOILER!!: Table |
the professor seem busy in other, Raven decided to make a move, and because Raven found out, its more easy to used the galdr method than intaglio method, Raven choose it. Now for the Algiz -- A shield, for protection, channeling energies. what to do next. try it first in the wood, Raven readied the burins, place it in the wood, and the chant begin. algiz algiz algiz z z z z z z z z z uz az iz ez uz oz ez iz az uz z z z z z z z z z after completing the chant Raven remove the burins and found out the carving is nice. now for the desk carving. algiz algiz algiz z z z z z z z z z uz az iz ez uz oz ez iz az uz z z z z z z z z z after the chant is finish, "Nice, beautiful one, haha" he said. what next, the rune Isa --for reflection and reinforcement of magic , the rune he practice more, Raven think no need to produce another in the wood. Finishing with thurisaz, Dianna decided to move on with the two remaining runes. "kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn" "wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n" It was easier for her now that she was quite used to chanting the runes and soon she realized that she was done. It wasn't perfect but it wasn't bad either. http://i51.tinypic.com/2rwoqr8.jpghttp://i51.tinypic.com/281txtd.jpghttp://i53.tinypic.com/2qup6k0.jpg |
I didn't mind Scarsandtetris :) Quote:
"Ok Here we go." Starting to chant. He started to carve the intricate rune. It was turning out fine. He was please with this class and it was making him excited for what else he would learn here. He planned on getting the best grade possible in this class. He knew he could do it. |

Or not. She nodded foolishly and laid her back to the chair. She wouldn't use that artifact I tell you. Louisa watched as her fellows worked on their pieces of wood. Not a very thrilling scene but better than nothing. Soon the Professor caught their attention again. Quote:
Her mind was focused on the shape of the Rune she should be carving. Around two minutes later she stopped and took a look at her work. "Mmm.. Not bad I guess." She told herself with a faint smile. There was too much carving at places where white spots appeared for some weird reason but it resembled Ansuz well.. thankfully. |
Now it was up for the last rune. This was really funy.Maybe the blonde could carve some more runes into the table when she finsihed.Hopefully the professor wouldnt mind. Ohhh and thinking about carving runes, maybe the Slytherin could careve some into her bed. How cool would that be?! Taking a deep breath she made sure to be ready to chant. "fehu fehu fehu fehu f f f f f f f f f f f f f f fuh fah fih feh foh fu fa fi fe fo f f f f f f f f f f f f f" Yaaay her table looked so nice with the three runes now.Loooked not so dull anymore. Hehe. |
SPOILER!!: words Whilst he was waiting for an answer, Jake scrutinised the table closely, running his fingers over the wood again. It wasn't until his pushed his chair back that he eyed the edge of the table, the part that usually faced his stomach and chest when he sat there, and could be seen properly by anyone else who sat somewhere behind when he and a chair were not there. Perfect. Taking his burin, Jake pushed his chair back again and leant one knee on the floor, looking straight ahead at the face of the table directed at him. After flexing his fingers, the boy got to work on the next rune: Sowilo. "sowilo sowilo sowilo s s s s s s s s s s s s o o o l l l su sa si se so (sul sal sil sel sol) us as is es os si se su sa su s s s s s s s s s" Jake sang!chanted to the rune as he carved, finding it slightly harder to do when you weren't leaning and facing DOWN but were looking straight ahead. In the end, he was faced with... well, it was Sowilo if you tilted your head juuuuuuuuust a smidge to the left. It was a cross between what the rue should have been had it been perfect, and that Harry Potter guy's scar. It would do. Now the last one... he only had to decide. |
Flipping through her Ancient Runes textbook, Sierra came across something called The Third Aett. She didn't know what in Merlin's name that meant, of course, but it made no difference to her anyway. She wasn't looking for anything called Aetts; she was looking for Galdr chants. Her eyes moved from side to side as she skimmed through the page, looking for a rune that would also help benefit her instruction in Professor Truebridge's class. Ah ha--Dagaz! According to the textbook, Dagaz meant happiness, success, awakening, and awareness. All of those words sounded like they'd help her understand Ancient Runes a big better than she already did. Well actually, learning anything was an improvement for her at this point. Burin still positioned in her right hand, Sierra began work on the bow tie-looking figure. "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z," ...she chanted, the burin etching into the wood as she spoke. Thoughts of clarity in runes came to her mind, and she smiled as she thought about how this rune might make that possible. Thinking herself to be finished, Sierra withdrew the burin and studied her rune. Yup. Sure enough, the little figure she'd ended up sort of resembled a bow tie...or maybe two triangles coming together at a point. Either way, Dagaz was now successfully etched into the table. |
Quote:
Almost finished! she thought, looking down at her tabletop carving of Jera. Maybe I'll do more so I'm not bored. Is that allowed? Truebridge only said "please complete three". She continued pressing her wand into the table as she focused on the third line in her current rune. |
Sierra shook her hand a little, trying to relieve some of the pressure of having used it to carve twice into the wood and twice into the table. She glanced over at her book, looking to find a third rune to carve into the table. She absentmindedly twirled a lock of her hair as she read over the list of runes and what each of them meant. Kenaz sounded promising, but then again, so did Jera. Both runes had qualities she'd hope for in a subject she rarely understood. In the end, though, it was Wunjo she went with. The symbol, which looked sort of like the letter P with very sharp points, seemed fairly easy to carve. Which was definitely not the main reason she chose it. Wunjo stood for success, achievement of goals, and rewards, three qualities that would be, in her eyes, more than appropriate for this class. Burin positioned over an empty area on the table, Sierra began. "wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n," ...she chanted, her mind filling with thoughts of succeeding and gaining rewards. "wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n," ...she chanted a second time, adding the two slanted lines toward the top. With that, she was done. Her hand ached, and she needed a short break. All this carving had been hard work! |
Phew. Phew, phew. Charisa found two more runes to carve into her table. She looked over her selected runes again. Kenaz and wunjo. Both were promising runes that she had heard other students mention, and they made perfect sense to her. Who wouldn't want inspiration and motivation in class? Charisa picked up her burin again after rereading the description of kenaz. She needed a clear understanding of its meaning to focus on it while performing the galdr. Then, she flipped to the section of the book where the galdr for the rune in question was listed. It looked like it would be more of a challenge than thurisaz, but Charisa charged forth. Positioning the tool over an empty space on the surface of the table, she proceeded with the chant. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn." Charisa filled her mind with only thoughts of the energy brought to her by the kenaz rune, and slowly and carefully she carved the rune into the wood. Another run through the chant, and she finished off the second slanted line with a pleased smile. |
runes 2 and 3 Hmm...brushing a couple wood shavings off her the gloves she wore, the Slytherin glanced to her notebook once more to see what other runes she had written down that she had yet to do. Aw right, the wunjo rune. Finding the galdr spell thing for it, she moved the wood carving tool a few centimeters over closer to herself from where the first rune was before she started on the 'P' shape of the wunjo rune. Galdr chant...where did'ya go? "Wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n..." Carve carve carve... It wasn't a hard rune to carve, and it came out much better than the first one she carved onto the table. Blowing on the newly carved rune slightly to blow away the wood shavings, she ran a gloved finger over the rune and smiled. Hmm, that looked niiiice. Glancing back to the runes book, she switched back to chapter five and took the time to look through the list of runes, trying to find another that she thought would be good enough. Hehe... Hehehe, Tiwaz seemed like a good rune. GRIN. Tiwaz it is then. Finding a good spot on the desk, evenly spaced out from the other two runes, the Slytherin switched back to chapter seven to find the Galdr chant before starting to carve the arrow shaped rune onto the table. "Tiwaz tiwaz tiwaz t i i i i i r r r r r tu ta ti te ter tor tur tar tir ter tor ot et it at ut (Tyr Tyr) T i i i i i r r r r r" Trailing off the chant, the Slytherin once again blew on the table and sat back to look at her work. Goodness, she was getting brilliant at this carving. That...definitely looked like an arrow to her! |
Rune 3 Slipping her hand into her bag, Mia pulled out her wand and kind of glared at it for a moment. "Now listen to me Mr Wand, if you carve the rune into the desk without setting it on fire, I promise that I will give you a nice coat of polish." She looked around to make sure that no one was listening to her talk to her wand. She then turned back to her wand and with a very deep breath, Mia swept her wand across the desk where she wanted to carve the rune and then said the incantation. "Intaglio...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo..." Mia looked down at the desk and was dismayed to see that she could see absolutely nothing on the desk where she was trying to carve her rune. Now usually she would give up by this point but seeing how she hadn't managed to set anything on fire and Professor Truebridge would probably be disappointed if she gave up now, Mia decided to try again. With another sweeping motion of her wand, she repeated the incantation again. "Intaglio...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo..." Mia looked down at the desk and this time she was sure that there was something faint now etched on the desk. Okay she could so do this. Sweeping motion with wand. "Intaglio...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo..." Look at desk. Sigh. Wand moves across desk. "Intaglio...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo..." Another sigh. Another wand movement. Another incantation. ... .... ..... Mia had lost count at how many times she had been doing this spell with not much results but at least she hadn't given up...yet anyway. Taking another deep breath and focusing on the spot she was trying to carve, Mia concentrated really hard as she made yet another sweeping motion wth her wand and said the incantation again. "Inatglio...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wunjo...Wu...Oh my god! I did it." She yelled out excitedly and then quickly shut her mouth and gave a sheepish look. But on the inside she was jumping up and down in excitement. http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/p...elle/wunjo.gif Seems practice and perseverance does pay off. |
Rune 3 and 4 Lucy went back to make some more runes, but this time she decided to use the second method that was the muggle method. So she took the burin in her hand and looked at chapter seven to get the chant of Ansuz and Uruz rune "There it is she said" she said and took a deep breath pointing the burin on the table besides the two runs she already carved and said ansuz ansuz ansuz aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw s s s s s s aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw aw And looked at the rune hmm this one is easy too and laughed. Ok i should make one more with the same method. Again she took a deep breath and said uruz uruz uruz u u u u u u u u u u u u u u u r r r r r r u u u u u u u u u And looked at her rune ok, this is done too. This is pretty ease. she thought and looked at all of the runes she curved. I'm so very good at this. Should i try some more? now she was confused. I could be a Runes Teacher in future she thought and smiled. |
SPOILER!!: Prof. Truebridge Freya grinned widely when the Professor approved her work. She then preparing herself to carve runes on her table. She flipped her rune textbook to find a perfect runes that she'd carved on her table. She decided to do the first carved with the Intaglio spell. She took out her wand and touched it to her table "Intaglio Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo Gebo." she muttered and watched as the rune began to carve on her desk. Yaaaayyyy..she did the first one. After the Slytherin done with her first rune craving on the desk, she decided to make another one this time she'll use the galdr method. She grabbed the burin. With her gloves and goggles still on, she hold the burin with her hand and stick it into her desk. "berkano berkano berkano bu ba bi be bo b e e e e e r r r r r (burk bark birk berk bork) ob eb ib ab ub b e e e e e r r r r r" She looked at her desk as the Berkano rune began to carve on it. She smiled when she noticed that her second runes were succeed like the first one. |
Having been fully paying attention to the class and practicing both methods as they were taught, Simon turned his attention back to Professor Truebridge when he spoke again. This time it was to send the class onto the final point of the lesson; the actual carving into the desks of the runes he had chosen for their purposes benefitial to learning. There was some hesitation for it was messing with school property but one...they had permisson of a professor and two...it wasn't like it would be hurting anything like the questionable tasks in Potions. Simon turned back to the portion of the book that listed the runes as he prepared for the task at hand. Well Sowilo still seems like it would work, he thought to himself moving his wand to one corner of the top of the desk. "Intaglio...." he cast, visualizing the Sowilo rune and moving his wand along the surface, slowly but surely carving the rune into the wood remembering to do it against the grain as instructed. Stopping the spell to look at his progress, the Gryffindor captain was quite satisfied with the work. Making a decision on the design he was going for, Simon repeated the process on all four corners of the desktop before he would move on the the next one. |
Charisa had already decided on her third rune. She read the galdr for the wunjo rune over in her head, rubbing her left hand with a thumb. Maybe she wasn't so used to carving things, especially with these burins, and that was cause for a tad of soreness in her wand hand. Like carpal tunnel. Ouch. Readying herself to carry out carving her third and final rune, Charisa positioned her burin over the empty space next to her previous two runes and filled her mind with thoughts of motivation and success. Then, she started the chanting. "Wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n." Well, this was the silliest chant Charisa had had to recite so far. Feeling foolish because of the final few syllables of the wunjo galdr, she broke concentration for a split second. Fortunately, her rune wasn't maimed as she lifted her burin from the table. Sighing, Charisa focused again. "Wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n." At last, she was finished, glad that she had used the burin instead of the Intaglio spell. Carving was more work than it seemed because of all the concentration, but Charisa was content with the results. |
Deciding to switch tactics on his carving technique for the secone rune, Simon turned back to chapter seven once he had decided on what rune to carve; the ingwaz. His finger traced down the page until it landed on the matching galdr, reading it repeatedly to get a feel for the chant before he began. He then picked the burin back up and placed the tip to the center of the desk. "ingwaz ingwaz ingwaz i i i i n n n n g g g g ung ang ing eng ong ong eng ing ang ung i i i i n n n n g g g g," Simon chanted the words in his familiar timbre, moving the burin as he did so and carving the wood with diamond symbol associated with the rune in question. The marks lightly glowing as the magic was infused with the mark. |
Cass was ready for the table. She knew it! Her eyes flew to her sleeve where her wand was hidden. She didn't know if she should use the burin or her wand instead...She looked at all the runes she had made and decided that she should stick with the burin, after all, it was what she was used to.. Again, she snapped on her goggles and positioned her burin on top of the table. Then she chanted... "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" |
thurisaz : rune two Audrey grabbed her second piece of wood. She felt it's smooth texture as she ran her fingers along it. Audrey decided to do Thurisaz as her second rune because of its magical use for discipline, focus and as a study-aid. 'All of those things sound helpful in a classroom environment' she thought. She had also grabbed a burin, safety goggles, and gloves. She placed the goggles on around her eyes and blinked. 'These things are always dirty' she thought. With the burin in hand Audrey began to chant: thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th http://www.runa.fromru.com/futark/Thorn.gif She looked at it closely but wasn't sure it was right. Her hand shot up. "Professor! I was just wondering if you would kindly look at this for me please?" |
Jaina knew that she hadn't done all that great with the galdr, so she decided that the Intaglio spell was the way to go. She raised her wand and pointed it at the desk. "Intaglio fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu." ---Fehu appeared on the desk. "Intaglio kenaz, kenaz, kenaz, kenaz, kenaz." ---Kenaz appeared on the desk. "Intaglio algiz, algiz, algiz, algiz, algiz, algiz." ---Algiz appeared on the desk. Jaina raised her gloved hand and asked, "How is this, professor?" |
As Selina continued on with her carving she looked down at her progress. The raidho looked perfect. Everything that the book made it out to be was now ingrained on her desk for the rest of her school existence and would continue to inspire her in Ancient Runes until she graduated. Once she was pleased with her work she went to completing her second rune Nauthiz. She then prepared her chant and raised her tool. At once she began to sing, "nauthiz nauthiz nauthiz, n n n n n n n n n, nu na nu ne no, nudh nadh hudh nedh niodh, un an in en on, n n n n n n n n n." The tool and the table seemed to be working in harmony to complete the rune. When it was done Selina flicked her wand and carved into the table so she would never forget- her name and year. These runes would always be a reminder of her first class at Hogwarts. SPOILER!!: Desk |

"Intaglio Tiwaz... tiwaz... tiwaz... tiwaz" he rumbled through, carving the vertical line of the Tiwaz rune. He then moved on to carving the "arrow head" part, chanting the same spell as he went. When he was happy with how the Tiwaz rune came out, he looked at the runes list. One caught is eye-- the Sowilo rune. "Energy and strength." he mumbled. Yeah definitely be needing this one for studying. Of course, the fact that the rune looked like an S may have swayed him to pick this one out too heh. He aimed his wand again at the space next to the Tiwaz carving and uttered "Intaglio Sowilo... sowilo... sowilo..." Soon enough, the Sowilo rune started to form. Alright, the third rune... His eye caught the burin tool. He stared at it for a while before setting his wand aside and reached out for it. The Slytherin lad looked over the runes list again and read "....reinforcement of other magics...". Reinforcement of the two existing runes that he's carved. Yeah he liked that. He started to chant a different spell this time as he set the burin point against the wood grain.... "Isa Isa Isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i" He angled his head. The Isa rune, although already visible, didnt run as deep as the first two runes he carved with his wand. Frowning, he chanted the spell again and ran the bruin through the rune, deepening it. He had to do this a few more times before the rune began looking like the first two carvings beside it. He straightened up and squeezed the crick out of his neck. It was a good thing this rune was so simple. He would've hated to use the burin on something more complicated than a vertical line. Text Cut: the rune desk carvings |
decided to just carve in case the lesson needs to close soon :) SPOILER!!: more words Tapping his finger on the table, Jake gave a nod. After checking his safety equipment, namely his safety goggles (wouldn't want any sawdust or other such miniscule wood matter getting into his eye after all), Jake picked up his burin and ducked under the table, before reaching back up, his hand patting said table for a moment, and grabbing his textbook. Once he had all he needed, Jake squinted at the small writing of the galdrs and tapped his lips with the tip of the burin. Hmmm... which to choose? The rune was chosen and stuff, so now Jake only had to choose where to carve. Clearly the underside of the table was his general choice, but the boy had to peeeeeeeeer at the grain (it was moderately gloomy under there) to find the right 'direction'. And then he was ready. Jake had to get on his knees so his arm could get up and almost hug the desk so as to press it into the floor, otherwise the carving wouldn't work and the table would be jumping and flailing into the air. With all that sorting, Jake starting to carve and chant!sing one more time. "thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz th th th th th th th th th thur thar thur ther thor thu tha thu the tho th th th th th th th th th" Because of the angle, this one was harder to do. His chant was rather stop-start because he was concentrating, but more or less it was good. Except when he had to spit out wood shavings, of course. When he sat back and looked at the rune, Jake noted that it looked like a man doing the 'I'm a little teapot' dance and assuming the spout went up in the air. It looked about right. As Jake started to move out from under the desk, something else caught his eye. A little carving under the table that read 'Zan was here'. The young man smirked. Rock on, little rebel. He assumed that the author of that was now some boring ministry worker or something like that, but nonetheless appreciated it. He hugged the table towards the floor again again and, glad he was under cover of desk, added 'So was Jake'. Funny how that was a lot simpler than runes to carve, possibly because he was used to these letters. He'd had to carve it at a weird angle 'cause of the letters and everything. Pretending he'd done nothing else, and hoping Truebridge wouldn't check that rune, Jake came back to the 'surface' and took his seat again. With that, he set down his burin and raised his hand... keeping the safety gear on. Hogwarts students WERE lethal, after all. "Professor, my apologies if you already went over this; I must have been distracted if you were, but the Intaglio spell... can it be used to carve things other than runes, or is there another spell for that?" If there was, Jake had to learn it. |
Liking the look of his second attempt of the carving, the work of the burin, Simon decided that he would continue with it on the carving of his third and final rune creation. Choosing the Dagaz rune for it, he flipped between the list of runes and the coordinating galdrs, mentally rehearsing the chant for a few minutes. He switched from the top of the desk to the sides, the sixth year boy touched the burin to the wood and began to work. "Dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z" The galdr was repeated three times after as Simon moved around the desk, adding the cross-hatched rune to all four sides. Straightening up, the boy looked over his work before sitting down to await any further instructions from Professor Truebridge. |
Marie looked through the list of runes in the book trying to decide which one she wanted to do next. She had chosen her first one, Perthro, because she truly was confused here today. Not just by the class itself but by some of the events that had taken place there. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...erthroRune.jpg Hmm, Uruz looked like a good one for her. Choosing that one for courage and understanding she started to carve it into the desk. "Intaglio, Uruz, Uruz, Uruz" With her wand touching the table she watched as the rune was carved into it. Heh, this was easier than she thought it would be. Before she knew it she had her second rune done. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...C/UruzRune.jpg Two down one to go. One rune, that's all she had left to carve and she had no idea what one she was going to do this time. She read through the list of runes several times before deciding on Wunjo. This one represented motivation and right now she needed all the motivation she could get to finish this assignment. Wand in hand she started the carving process. "Intaglio, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo." Before she knew it she had her final rune carved into the table. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z.../WunjoRune.jpg Finally finished Marie reholstered her wand and looked at her work. Three runes, three different meanings for her. There was Perthro because she was confused, Uruz to give her the courage to understand that confusion and Wunjo to motivate her to continue working here. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z.../RuneTable.jpg Now that she was done she wanted class to be over with already. She needed to go find Jimmy and make sure he was alright. She looked over at Truebridge as if to say, 'Can we leave yet?' |
Audrey began on her final rune: "dagaz dagaz dagaz dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z du da di de do dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh dh odh edh idh adh udh od ed ud ad ud d d d a a a g g g a a a z z z," It was perfect! It literally looked like the picture in the book she had read. |
While he waited for the answer to his question, and to give him more time to ponder what the answer might be himself, Sabel returned his eyes back to his desk. Tapping his fingers against the bottom right corner with the burin, he flipped through the pages in his textbook to search out his next Rune. 'Kenaz', with it's ability to aid in study and grant inspiration as well as to remove anxiety, it seemed to be an applicable rune to coincide with 'Thurisaz'. So, as with his first rune, he began carving with the burin and changing the galdr. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn" He couldn't help but smile at the strange combination of sounds and letters that made up the enchantment, half getting distracted by the last line. As such, it seemed his rune was slightly less than adequate near the bottom, so he carved into it once again, detailing it with more precision. "Kenaz kenaz kenaz ku ka ki ke ko kun kan kin ken kon ok ek ik ak uk kaunnnnnnnnn" Once again, it wasn't perfect, but more adequate than the first few carvings he had done on the practice board. Tracing his fingers along the grooves of the rune, he turned his eyes back to his textbook for the last Rune he had to carve. 'Wunjo' popped up, a rune for completion, motivation and success. Drawing his burin to the left corner of his desk, he found the incantation and once again started carving. "wunjo wunjo wunjo wu wa wi we wo wun wan win wen won wo we wi wa wu w w w u u u n n n" Unlike the first two, this one he didn't see the need for re-carving, it's depth and shape satisfactory. With a small smile, he leaned back in his chair, surveying his handiwork. This, had definitely been a good lesson. |
Quoted my own post *palm face* Quote:
"Perfect!" She said happily as she smiled up at her work. Onwards to the next rune!! "ehwaz ehwaz ehwaz e e e e h w a a a z ehwu ehwa ehwi ehwe ehwo ehwo ehwe ehwi ehwa ehwu e e e e h w a a a z" She continued on chanting with the burin still in hand. After a few minutes, she decided that it was perfect. Just as she wanted it to be. LAST RUNE!!! She took a deep breath and started on her last rune. She chose a spot on her table, positioned her burin and chanted "isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i" After a few moments...It was carved! Yay! She set her burin down on the table and sighed. Finally. |
OOC: I am truly sorry for my delay in posting. There was a death in my family and I had to help arrange a funeral as well as other family matters. But I'm here now and will close the class in 24 hours... theres one last task. :shifty: SPOILER!!: sweetpinkpixie "Ah and you have discovered the final step. Adding colour needs to be done by hand and in quite a specific way. We'll get to it in a moment. That Kenaz looks very good, Kurumi, well done." SPOILER!!: top94a "Yes you can use whichever method you like, or both, as you please." Truebridge answered. SPOILER!!: nogoodforyou "Yes you can, if you have finished carving. But if you intend to do more you'll need to put them back on." Truebridge agreed. SPOILER!!: xMagicalMuggle Ethan went over to have a look. "Yes thats a good reason to choose Dagaz. And nicely carved too. Good job." SPOILER!!: Tazenhani "They can and do use the galdr." Truebridge corrected, "However, with little to no magical ability within themselves, the magical effect of the rune is certainly not as powerful, if it has any sort of magic to it at all. The nature of the rune allows them to be used for divinatory purposes by muggles and wizards alike, however, as with any magic, and with many forms of divination for example, full understanding is much harder for a muggle to reach." Sabel. Questioner. But at least the boy's questions were good ones, and Truebridge was always willing to answer questions directed at him by students. SPOILER!!: Zoerawrr "Cold chisel," Is a rock band, "Refers to tempered steel used to cut metals that are 'cold'. So not to be used in conjunction with heating tools or spells or in a forge." He offered in brief. It made sense that it'd be Jake asking that one. "And yes. You can if you wish." Truebridge agreed. Anywhere on the table was fine by him. SPOILER!!: vijaya "Alright." Truebridge strode over and had a good look. "Very nicely done." SPOILER!!: top94a Truebridge went over and had a look at Raven's work and nodded, quite pleased with the results. "Good job. And there is one more step." He held up his finger. They'd get to it in a moment. SPOILER!!: aussiegirl "Excellent work, Mia." Truebridge nodded his approval in calm acceptance of the Hufflepuff's excitement. SPOILER!!: aidan ooc: took the link out due to it being directlinked. You need to upload to photobucket or similar :) He did like it when they were polite and raised their hand. "Certainly" He took a good look and then nodded. "Good work." He commented and then moved on. SPOILER!!: jengirls109 "Fehu, Kenaz and Algiz. Nicely done." Truebridge approved. SPOILER!!: fanficfanatict Truebridge eyed the added carvings and then nodded. That was fine. He didn't mind at all. And for good reason. He had certainly done his share of leaving his mark as a student too. SPOILER!!: Zoerawrr ooc: you slay me. Boring little ministry worker? We laugh. Derisively. ;) He finished his rounds and passed Jake's desk again hust as the boy asked another question. "Yes, you can use it to carve in general, but it is far more difficult to form the shapes with just the 'Intaglio' aspect, and there is an addition to the wand movement -two taps on the surface before moving your wand in a smooth line against the surface you are intending to carve. And of course it is a component part of several other specialty spells, like the one we used in Defense Class to conjure carved cucumbers for Kappa." He cleared his throat. "Alright now for the final part of the lesson. While it is not entirely necessary, there is one final step which will help to seal in the magic, and give your carved rune life. This is far more important when you are making a personal rune set than what it is to carve into other surfaces, as it will attune the runes to you on a personal level. Can anyone tell the class what is used to stain the runes, and what colour the runes are to be stained?" |
I am so sorry to hear that Con *offers condolences* Quote:
Kurumi looked down at her now finished desk. What color? She sure hoped that crimson was appropriate because, well, that is the color she had stained her wood with. Timidly, Kurumi raised her hand. "Professor, would red or crimson be appropriate?" Then again, she supposed the color was more along the lines of maroon or rosewood, but no need to get that specific. |
Sorry about your loss. Glad to have you back. Quote:
Stain the runes? Crap, that was something her and James never talked about in their study session. Pulling her book back out she quickly thumbed through it. o__O BLOOD! Really, they had to use their own blood for this? "That would be blood and the color would be red." She said hesitantly putting her hand in the air. "We're not really gonna use our own blood for this are we?" Because she did not feel like bleeding today. |
Mia raised her hand in the air. "Er...I believe runes were originally stained by blood." Please let that not be the case now. She did not want to be pricking her finger to stain her runes. "Although there is an alternative to that and that would be red ochre and earth pigment. Symbolically it served as the blood of the earth. So the colour of course is red." |
"Looking over from his desk he smiled.* "Great job Mia!" *Putting up his hand Matty said.* "Originally runes were stained with blood; either the blood of the person using them, or the blood of a sacrificed human being or animal." *Matty didn't like the sound of that but he didn't mind blood. He'd seen enough of it by getting so many bloody noses.* occ: So sorry for your loss. |
Patroclus was still so pleased with his Desk of Runes, that it was only just that he heard what Professor Truebridge had said, and by some magic stroke of luck Patroclus was quite sure he knew the answer. "Professor, I believe to stain a rune you use Red Ochre," the Lion smiled, "Something earthly just like the runes!" Grin |
*Putting his hand up Matty remembered that not only blood could be used.* "Also saliva, sweat, and tears?" *Matty had a feeling there were more but he wasn't sure. And those were all used in the old days. Did they use other things now? He kind of hoped so.* |
my condolences :) As Dianna raised her hand, she hoped what she and her other classmates have said will not be done by them. She didn't want to have and infection on her finger again. *shudders* "If I am not mistaken, it would be blood as the color will be..red." she said as she lowered her hand. |

He looked around the class. "You don't have to use blood today. However, you may wish to consider it when you create your own rune sets, and indeed if you are creating a particularly powerful runespell then blood is the best answer. For those of you who have coloured your runes magically, that is fine too. Much of it is a matter of symbolism, and indeed if you prefer not to do things the old ways I am fine with that," Obviously or he wouldn't have taught them the Intaglio method, "But it is still important for you to know the traditional and ancient methods, even if you put your own interpretations on them in the long run. So the last thing we will do before class ends is colour our runes. He set up some red ochre that had previously been mixed from powder with oils in bowls on each table, tiny brushes set for each group and a second bowl with water and a few cloths as well. "No blood today." He wasn't in the mood to deal with any squeamish children, "But if anyone wishes to use blood for the seal next time, you may whenever you wish, come into the classroom and carve some more runes and use your blood by adding just a few drops into the red ochre mix." He headed up to the board and gave it a tap. Startled, the blackboard began writing again. It had apparently dozed off. "The homework will be up shortly. Finish painting the red ochre into the rune carvings you just made, and then you may leave." ooc: Class will close in 24 hours. |
Yeah so not gonna do that. She liked her blood right where it was thank you very much. And that was in her body. Maybe one day she might be brave enough to stain a set of runes with her own blood. When the Professor had set the bowls down onto the table, Mia picked up a brush and dipped it into the mixture. Then she set about painting her runes with calm and patience, working with her hands always brings. What a shame she couldn't do the same when working with her wand. Finishing off the last rune, Mia cleaned off her brush with the water and then dried it on the cloth before placing it back onto her desk. She looked around at the rest of the group and gave them a smile before placing her stuff back into her bag and standing up. "Thanks Professor Truebridge. That was a great lesson." She said as she hoisted her bag onto her shoulder and headed for the door. |
*Picking up brush Matty smiled. In an odd way it rem*inded him of paint class when he was a kid. Dipping the brush he then slowly ran it over his runes. He was very glad that they wouldn't be spitting, sweating, or bleeding in class today. That seemed to make things a bit of a downer. Once done he cleaned up, picked up his pack and headed out.* "Thank you sir, see you next class." |
Di was relieved. Maybe next time..yes...maybe... Taking a small brush in hand, she started painting her runes. Truthfully, they do look more alive when painted bloody red. Brushing careful strokes she finished in no time. http://i54.tinypic.com/33eshhf.jpg "Thanks Professor for the wonderful lesson." Di said as she fixed her belongings and left. |
Well, she hadn't done it properly with the supplies that Professor Truebridge had suggested, she had used Pingo instead, but adding an extra coat of color never hurt anybody. Taking one of the red ochre containers and returning to her desk, Kurumi went to painting over the runes she had carved. Thank Merlin's pointy hat that they didn't have to use blood. Sure, she understood the importance of blood in many potions and spells, but that didn't mean she liked it. Blood always made her a little queasy. Kurumi had nearly gagged when a Hufflepuff boy had suggested spitting into the runes. That was just...gross...and seemed very unsanitary. Having finished painting over all her runes, Kurumi waited a moment for it all to dry. As she waited, she began to wonder what Professor Truebridge was going to do with the desks they had carved into. Cast a spell and erase all their hard work? Or had they all just picked their assigned seats for the rest of the term? Seeing that the red ochre had dried, Kurumi put all her books and parchment back in her bag and flung it over her shoulder. "Thank you for the lesson, Professor Truebridge," she smiled with a bow. "If you don't mind my asking, will we be using these desks for the final?" Seemed likely considering they had carved runes that they thought would be useful for studying and classwork. |

"Yes. These desks will stay for as long as I am here." Truebridge answered, turning his attention to Kurumi. "Assuming the final is held indoors," And here he paused, "Then the desks will certainly be a part of that, but also a permanent fixture in the classroom for the remainder of the year." |

Moving to the front of the room, the Prefect selected a pot of ochre and returned to his and Destiny's desk, where he tip the brush into the rich crimson oil and then dragged it over and onto the runes he had craved. The oil ran into the craving, pooling and leeching their colour into the wood. Once they had tried, Patroclus packed his things, whispered "Good bye," to Destiny and headed towards the door. As he arrived at the desk of Truebridge, the Prefect smiled, "Thanks for an awesome lesson Sir," first Runes lesson, and first lesson of the term. Great way to get started. Nodding his head a little, he spared Truebridge a small smile, holding back the rest of his questions for his own silent debate. "Thank you, Professor." His attention once again returned to dusting out his runes, listening quietly as the discussion turned to binding and making runes personal with blood. It seemed a rather strange and almost taboo subject, to mark something in blood as the implications and symbology were immense. But then that was the purpose of magic, to have power through symbols and words and if one wanted to be fair, all things could be taboo from one perspective or another. There was relief however, that they would not be marking them with blood. At least not yet. Gave everyone a bit of time to mull things over. Once he was satisfied his runes were clear enough to paint, he carefully filled the grooves with the paint, doing two coats before replacing the brush and cleaning up. There was satisfaction in the design, in the choice of runes and the outcome and in the process of being able to do something actively creative. With a smile, he pushed himself up from his desk, gathering his belongings and giving another nod to the Professor. "Thank you for answering my questions, Professor. Have a good day." And with that he turned and headed out of the classroom to wait for Arya in the hall. |

Once the first was done, Jake clearly did the second, before ducking under the table to paint over the third. He really REALLY had to do it sparingly now, else it would drip. And, almost as an afterthough, Jake painted over his little carved message as well. Hehe. When he was finally done, Jake got back up, put the brush in the water to wash it off and wiped it dry, staying standing and stretching his back. Once he'd packed his stuff away and slung his bag over his shoulder, Jake stood and approached Jake, reaching into his bag again. "I have your book, Professor Truebridge," he smiled slightly. "I enjoyed it." 'NOTHER, PEASE! "And I loved the lesson. I swear, you could make any lesson interesting. |
Of course, having been listening to the discussion and writing down a few things in her notebook, Evelyn looked over to the professor when he gave the okay to paint in their carved runes on the table. With red? Well, not her choice of color but if it’s what’s used, then so be it. She didn’t particularly enjoy the fact that they could use their own blood in the future though. No, that was not something she’d be doing. It just… Pfft. Taking a brush, she barely dipped it into the red mixture before leaning over her runes and carefully painting the middles of them to color them red. It didn't take all that long, but it probably took longer than necessary. She wanted them to be perfect! By the third rune, Tiwaz, it seemed she was finally done. Rinsing the brush in the water and letting it dry on the cloth, Evelyn packed up her bags before standing up and pushing in her seat. Mwaha! Done. "Goodbye, Professor Truebridge. Have a nice day." She smiled on the way out, before slowing down and waiting outside the door of course. Can't leave Destiny and Marie! |

Yeah blood was not something Simon wanted to deal with right now or for that matter most times. People could chose to use it but not him and he was thankful Professor Truebridge provided the worthy and accepted substitution for the final step. Picking up the handle of one of the offered paint brushes and dipped the tip into the red ochre mixture. Satisfied he had a decent amount of the liquid on his brush the sixth year went about painting each of the runes he had carved in turn. When it was complete and each rune was saturated and stained red by his progress, Simon dipped the brush in the water this time to rinse before drying it off with the cloth and using the cloth to wipe any spill he may have made in the progress. |

To be honest, it hadn't lasted all that long at all, but since this subject was one Sierra struggled in, it just seemed to last double the amount of time others did. It had been a fun lesson, though, and she hadn't done nearly as terrible as she imagined she would. Actually, she really didn't do terrible at all, considering she'd actually managed to carve three runes into the table. ...but now the runes were meant to be painted, so before Sierra packed her bags to leave, she dipped a brush into the red ochre and then began coloring her runes. Hmm. The red ochre did give them a nice finishing touch. Sierra gave her runes a good look before grabbing her bag and stepping away from the table. As she walked out the door, she turned and gave the professor a small wave. She'd give him a nice compliment on the lesson, too, but mehh--she just wanted to take nap, honestly. |
serious catch up post! Lexi abandoned her ... borin. Whatever it was. She didn't like it. It seriously made her hand hurt trying to CARVE the runes out. Who wanted to do manual labor when they had a WAND? Not Lexi that was for sure. Looking at her piece of wood for a moment she decided that she was indeed ready to have a go at the desk. Clearing her throat she got her wand in place and said, "Intaglio Thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz thurisaz...." She repeated herself until the rune was finally carved. Taking her wand away she beamed at it and gave a little bounce in her seat. YAY! She was doing it well. It LOOKED like the rune and everything. She moved on to the next rune then, "Intaglio Ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz anzus..." Same as before she repeated the chant until she had completely carved the rune into the surface of the desk. Casting a glance around she smiled slightly. HERS loked amazing. REally. It did. She was so proud of her handywork she SO wished she had her camera on hand to snap a quick pic of it. Mhm! "Intaglio Kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz..." she chanted. The third and final rune was FINALLY done. YAY! They were all sufficiently spaced out across her tabletop and looked FABULOUS. Sticking her wand back in it's holster she beamed and ran her fingers across each carving just... 'cause. Hehehe. Hearing Truebs' next instruction she took one of the paintbrushes and set to work CAREFULLY painting each of her runes with the red ochre. Ooooh it was SO pretty. All of them were. Mhm. She took her time and painted each one with great care, making sure to get into every nook and cranny of the carvings. When she was finally done to her satisfaction she rose from her seat, returned the brush and her safety equiptment to their correct places and began to gather her things. Pausing for a moment she turned to smile at Truebs. "Thank you for an amazing lesson, sir. First time Runes has EVER made sense to me," she GUSHED at him. "Have a great day!" |
Oh Thank Merlin! They didn't have to use their own blood... or any blood at all to do this final step. Staining the runes with the mixture that Trues set on the table would be easy now. This was a good thing because that meant class would be over and she would finally be able to go find James and hopefully find out what was going on with him. After putting everything away so she would be sure not to get any stain on it she set her bag on the floor. She then grabbed one of the paint brushes, dipped it in the stain and very carefully started to fill in the runes that she had carved into the table. It was actually kinda cool knowing that these symbols would be on the table the whole year. Vandalizing school property in the name of education. How cool was that? After putting the finishing touches on her runes she cleaned out the paint brush and laid it on the cloth to dry. She then admired her work for a minute before getting up to leave. http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...dRuneTable.jpg "Um, thanks for Now to find James. Where could he be? Hopefully not in his common room... where she couldn't get to him. |
